Why salvage for ectos when you can just by them?

in Crafting

Posted by: Painking.4703

Painking.4703

It seems to me alot of rares, especially lv80 ones, are worth enough money to just buy your ectos. If the rare you have is worth less than 20s, then yeah salvaging is a good idea, but more often than not a rare is worth at least 20s, enough to buy one ecto even when sold to the lowest price. Sure you could salvage it and get more than 1, but you can also salvage it and get 0. Isn’t it just better to buy ectos rather than salvage for them?

Well what do you play? Norn naturally have large weapons than everyone, that could be the case if you play Norn. I’ll say that the Vigil sword looks more like a giant’s personal butter knife than it does a one-handed combat, but that’s the only case that comes to mind.

Running around Ashford, I find a Charr with the last name of “Cubminder” and her job was quite obviously to watch over a group of cubs. Now, obviously given the war-bound nature of the Charr this doesn’t sound like a “snatch it up while it’s open” kind of job, as we know Charr choose their own legion and warband as such. Do they earn their last name as their life goes on? Is it given to them by others? Do they get to pick it themselves?

Armor Repair canisters are just barely worth purchasing.

in Black Lion Trading Co

Painking.4703

Assuming you earned your gems via gold, there is almost no reason to actually purchase a repair canister. You get 5 of them for 300 gems, and assuming 1g=300 gems(I think the rate is below that now), your repairs need to be worth at least 20.1s to actually justify your purchase. Now, I personally repair after all my armor is damaged, not broken, since the stat penalty for broken armor is too severe, and my repair costs typically don’t climb above 15s. Does anyone here actually have regular 20s+ repair costs to justify constant purchase of these repair canisters?(ones that came free from BL chests are fine).

Painking.4703

I think it’s really just that we need more time to settle into the game. LoL, for example; its champions only have 4 skills and a passive effect, but the core of the customization comes from rune page set up (think of that as armor), their masteries (traits if you will), and lane composition (who plays what role in a dungeon/PvP match.) Given that we allow weapon variety, I’d say GW2 is fairly more customizable, but then again we also don’t have 100+ weapons to choose from….

Cultural Armors prices

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Painking.4703

Painking.4703

The worst thing about the armor is that it’s only RARE. If we’re going to shell out that crazy amount of gold, it should be Exotic at LEAST.

Actually something most people don’t understand about the culture armor is that wearing all 6 pieces gives you a bonus to power, vitality, and condition damage. Also note that this is a set bonus, not a bonus that comes from runes so you can actually buy the superior runes from the dungeon vendors to stack the rune bonus plus the set bonus from the culture armor. Also note that right now culture armor seems to be the only armor that gives a set bonus like that.

EDIT: I was looking back at the culture armor on the wiki and different culture armor gives different stat bonus. For example silvari give condition damage, toughness, and precision

Yeah, these “bonuses” are the actual stats on the armor itself. Giving the armor bonus stats for wearing all 6 pieces doesn’t make sense, since then players that have the armor set would get an unfair advantage.

I don’t see the harm in that, but what it does is diminish a feeling of accomplishment in PvP skill. If a guy in PvP walks up to me and says “where’d you get that cool armor?” and I told him “unlocked it in PvE”, he probably wouldn’t be very impressed, nor would I.

Generally speaking, the more badkitten the player looks in PvP, the more time he’s put into it and more skilled he is.

Crafting. The point?

Crafting is pretty much meant for self-sufficiency. You can supply future characters with their own armor/weapons rather than fork over coin/karma. You could try and make a profit, but it won’t be much, I’d imagine, especially when the lv400 recipes require ecto globs to craft.

There is nothing of note to farm in lv1-15 zones besides copper and jute, and their prices pale in comparison in to the T5 and T6 mats the bots are farming in Frostgorge Sound/Cursed Shore. Bots are gonna farm where the money is it, not spread out across every single zone and farm everything for not as much profit.

I think it’s a good idea to have such events that occur rarely. If it went off frequently the area would be full of players waiting to farm it for drops. And it means that some mysteries can remain even in areas that one is familiar with. In the long run perhaps, when Arenanet add more content, maybe they will increase the number of events that only trigger in certain circumstances, so that each time you are in an area it is a unique experience.

The problem with that is that Rares don’t exist at lv15, meaning there’s next to reason to farm him, vs the Shatterer who has a better track record of showing up on time than most local city buses, doesn’t have portals to pad his length and does in fact drop rares.

Well changing the numbers wouldn’t mean anything if the experience earned/needed didn’t change. Personally I would’ve done it lv1(copper and jute and junk) to lv6(orichalcum, gossamer, etc), but that change doesn’t change anything if it needed the exact same amount of exp per level/total to reach the max level. It’s just an aesthetic thing really.

Runescape does(did? do they still do this?) the same with their random events. You would be typically thrust into combat while doing a grindy activity like fishing or mining, and the enemy was scaled to be somewhat stronger than the player, but defeatable with some effort on their part that a bot couldn’t do. More recent random events skew towards a “do this thing” bent since many legit players met a swift and painful death at the hands of the fishing troll.

I wouldn’t mind seeing these again, I enjoyed them.

Jewelry or Cooking, as they don’t consume the same craft mats as armorsmithing. If you decide to level up both professions, they won’t be wrestling each other for the same mats(Jeweler will need both copper and platinum which Asmith also uses, but that’s it).

If you only want to level up one at a time then I would pick whichever profession crafts the 1 weapon you use the most.

Well, I know signet warrior builds can have over 100% crit with the right precision gear, which means after that there is literally nothing to build -but- power and crit damage. Now I’m sure power has the better ratio anyway, but I think there is only 1 other armor type that offers pow/prec with a non-crit damage third stat. and that I think is Valyrie, maybe.

If you want HP and defence try going for Carrion gear.

And stack your traits on vitality and toughness lines.

Carrion gear is the glass cannonist of glass cannony gear. No toughness at all.

Berserker’s gear is glass cannon incarnate. At least Carrion increases your HP total, Berserker doesn’t have neither vitality nor toughness, just raw power, precision, and crit damage.

They have started to flag videos so you can’t earn money on them , So people that are making a living out of posting youtube videos won’t get any food on their tables .

Maybe they’ll get an actual job now.

99% of people who make videos or stream don’t make a penny off of it… just sayin

what about the other 1%

That other 1% is making so much money that they don’t even need to get a job, as any League of Legends professional streamer can tell you.

Speaking of, Riot Games has a similar policy in place I believe: Don’t upload videos of their game and try to make money off of it. But ultimately what’s gonna make GW2 an E-sport is if the E-sport people decide that GW2 is good/balanced enough to be at their next big event to show off. I wonder if Anet’s ability to be considered an E-sport will affect future balance patches.

I did it yesterday. Killed him by 100% ranged. It is a basic mechanics for boss fight.
When the boss spawns some small wurms (I think its 4 of them), he gets an invincible buff. You need to kill all those small wurms to remove the buff. If someone pulled any of the small wurms away, you might not notice that and would be struggling against his infinite invincible buff.

This is an entirely different boss fight you’re describing……

I haven’t finished my story, but this is the first time I’ve heard this. Is it possible that these sorts of things need to be pointed out a bit better? Or are the events the same no matter which character you are and you get references to all the personal story quests and not just your own?

Some quests do reference your previous acheivements, one that I’ve done with the Hylek quest chain within your order, and at one point you are required to list off your previous accomplishments. It’s text box only though, so it really doesn’t feel like it means much, especially when your choices still didn’t change anything, you’re just telling them to people.

True, but with repair costs, waypoint costs, the cost of purchase only craft mats (threads, lumps, runes of holding, etc), people in attempting to craft legendaries with items that require purchase, there are alot of gold sinks in the game. The 15% fee is abit large with all these other extra fees.
