These privacy options could also solve another problem. That being sore losers in pvp who feel the need to harass you because either:

A – You killed them too many times

B – Your team lost and its everyone elses fault and not theirs

Yes I know you can block them. But what if I don’t want to block them? Why would I not want to block them you say? Well to defend my good name of course. If I block them they can go and speak in map chat and talk whatever they like about me and I can’t defend myself unless someone else tells me what they are saying.

If we get a privacy option to only allow friends to whisper us I could see the garbage this person is saying about me, defend myself all while having the luxury of not getting annoying harassing whispers from them.

You see this is not ALL about gold sellers, there are multiple reasons why we need more privacy options.

Another example is the incoming mentor system. A mentor might want to have their tag up to help people do a JP or some other stuff but may not want to be whispered about any other thing. They may be running people through a jp or maybe a boss fight/event. Whispers may just put them off or demand too much attention from them especially if everyone starts whispering them with many questions about all sorts of things. Again the block whispers here would work great.

I am sure other people can think up other ideas/examples

Thinking on it they could add a new warrior elite spec with one of it’s current weapons. It might mean changing a few of the specs in some of the available lines but it shouldn’t be much of a problem.

They wont be dropping out of the game at all. Why would they? They are just another form of bows if you think about it except they go “pew pew”.

I am sure Anet has stated before that they would like all classes to get all weapons within time and that this would happen BEFORE any new weapon types would come into the game.

I am not sure why they were left out for the first set of elite specs but don’t worry they will come again sooner or later.

What I do wonder about tho is that since warrior is the class that has access to the most of the weapons. What will they do when they run out of weapons to give to warriors for elite specs when they will still be giving the other classes what they don’t have yet? Maybe then will be when they start rolling in new weapons.

So, essentially what you are asking for is a way to have options like “Receive Whispers”:

  • From All
  • From Friends and Guild Members
  • From Friends
  • None

This seems like a reasonable feature request.
If Player A is on Player B’s friends list, but Player B isn’t on Player A’s friends list, how does that interaction work out?

Would this also extend out to things like mail?

(Please note this does not mean that this will happen, won’t happen, is planned to happen, and or not planned to happen)

My suggestion for chat/privacy improvement: (better experiece from other mmo games)

1) Get rid of follower list pls, when A sends a friend request to B, it shld be shown as “pending” on both till B accepts, not automatically appears on A’s list.

2) When in offline mode, allow us to send and receive guild and party chat.

3) Option to choose to be visible and able to receive pm from all/friends/guild/none.

4) When block or been blocked by someone, the blocker shld be shown as offline and without any additional info (e.g locations)

Thanks for your time.

I have one concern with your 1. That being I assume if the follower list is gone we would be notified somehow that another player wants us to add them to our friends list. This could be used to harass people itself as a form of spamming. The follower list is a good option right now as it gives us a chance to not be spammed by players telling us they want us to add them and we can check it whenever we want out our own leisure.

I wouldn’t go out of my way to get some. You change your gear up pretty often as you level. If you have some from salvaged gear though, it wouldn’t hurt.

You can get around this if you only change your gear every 10 levels. Besides you can always find cheap runes/sigils that will add something.

I’d be happy if I could block and report gold sellers at the same time.

I’ve played other first run P2P games that were much, much worse. You’d have to clean out your block list daily, and often would fill it up again. So it could be worse.

You reminded me of something else I thought about suggesting. That being those on our blocked list should get their names dropped off if automatically if one of the following happens:

A – The account is perm banned.
B – The true owner of the account reclaims the account.

In the case of A why would we want the name on our list taking up possibly valuable space when the account is gone and can’t harass us anymore anyway?

In the case of B, the name should be removed if account is reclaimed so we don’t miss anything said from said person if we ever do happen to play in the same map or whatever again. Why need them taking up space when there is a good chance they are just like most other players and wont harass us?

I have seen them randomly pop up for a split second then disappear quickly the past week or so. Likely just left over code from last year not taken out or something….

This is likely an ele using maize balm and casting arcane wave the second they throw the bottle to instantly kill the candy corn elementals so randoms don’t have a chance of stealing them.

No it’s not as each time I have seen them there were no other players around and in some of the cases not even any ambient creatures. Besides if that did happen the combat would soon start and I know the difference. Basically I was just running along doing map completes on a new char and would pass by some out of the way place and then pop a random candy corn for a split second and then it disappeared. I mentioned it in map chat and a few others said they thought it was only happening to them so I know it is happening to other people.

Also I remember that this has happened in the past too before those items were even in the game.

It might be due to a poor graphics card on my end or some other such as since I have upgraded to windows 10 assets in the game have been taking longer to load (such as city walls and bridges, some ground objects etc) so this may be why these are showing up all of a sudden for me.

havent been spammed by gold sellers for like….. 6 months…. it isnt THAT big of an issue what a few extremes here and there.
just report block and be done with it, takes you literally 3 seconds.

Maybe you don’t play PvP a lot? Trust me if you spend a few hours there each day and are chatty in map chat you become a target. Also did you guys know that they more than likely add your name to a list and as soon as they make a new account (or steal one more like) they will have that bot spam you. So again all we are asking for is a preventative.

Really I don’t now how such privacy options would effect you guys in any negative way. I should imagine it wouldn’t take much work to do either. Heck Runescape has had such a feature for the last 14 years. Anet are AAA devs and they can’t do it? Mind boggling….

Bought GW2 during the first round of sales on release, but deleted all of my initial characters, kind of upset about that now. Wish birthdays where account based and not character.

Trust me you would not want this in the long run as it would mean you only get 1 gift per year for ALL your chars. Sure for a lot of people the gifts may not seem like worth having alts for but in my case with those lvl 20 scrolls over 8 chars you can see it’s better this way. :P

True enough. Though it could be done account based but really slot based instead of character. So say initially you get 5 slots because players start default with that many, then the timer starts when ever you buy a new slot.

Using my case I would have 5 slots eligible for 3 years due to initial slots, then 2 slots going on 1 year since I bought 2 slots about a year ago.

Granted while kind of upset about it, I’m just tossing that idea out, but not really serious about thinking they should do it. I’ll get over it.

Oh I get it so even if you deleted the char the slot is still classed as being 3 years old or whatever. I could live with that, might not be a bad suggestion to make actually as I am sure there are a lot of people out there who reroll chars often due to the 5 char slot limit.

Its because they are so cliche and badly done they look like ripped off bird wings taped on your back look out of place and everyone has them. When everyone has them they just are not as cool and again gemstore. The other wings u speak of at least look decent and I don’t see them as much as the lame angel demon wings. But whatever I’m enjoying my synergetic spinal blades still which I crafted so :p

Even if every person in this game had the wings they would still be “cool” to me and my char who uses them.

What’s with the gemstore reference? Ohhhh you are one of those people who buys/uses items for “status” and are trying to say something like “they are gemstore, no effort put in so they are not worth anything”. To that I would have to reply, each and every person who bought these gemstore items should be thanked just for that because it is them that is keeping this game alive!

I’m just curious folks. Why do you like them? How does it fit into your roleplay?

I used to play Perfectworld and there the elf class (healers) all had wings. So it’s fitting with that theme my Guardian got the angel wings which suit him perfectly.

My ele has those see through wings, not the shattered ones the other ones. Again they suit him perfectly just because lol.

My Engi main is a different story all together. He has those green ascended wings which sort of match his gold dragon helmet. All he needs now is a tail lol. :P

I didn’t buy those black wings but if they ever come back again I might, I could see them suiting a revenant perhaps.

I wish they would put the bleeding, diseased and shambling animal that is Guild Wars 2 out of it’s misery. I am afraid, however, that they will milk the cow dry, skin it and sell all the organs and bones for profit untill it can finally be put to rest. Maybe exploit the soul too for eternal torment…

I quit years ago and I am quite happy that I did, the whole game has become a joke and not one of the funny variety.

I’m looking forward to the level 20 scrolls for my key runners also. That’s probably the only thing I’ll use. I haven’t even used my Birthday boosters (I wish those things had 24 one hour charges. It seems like such a waste to use one and then most of those hours doesn’t get used unless you play like a crazy person on that char).

Best thing to do with these is to dedicate a single char to use them and only play on that char when you want the bonus from those. Example have 1 char you only use for WvW and have him use all those boosters. Make sure to only play on him when doing WvW so he does not waste any of the time doing daily or whatever – problem solved.

Remember the time does not run down when he is logged out, if they last 24 hours he will get the full 24 hours. Again tho only as long as he is only doing WvW (well whatever you want him to do, WvW is my example :P)

This game is not dying and wont be any time soon. If anything it is only just beginning to take off imo. This game as well as the genre is going through a transformation atm and this game is one of the ones at the fore front of that. Yes gone may be the days of gear grinds, expensive subs and spending massive amounts of time in these types of goals to achieve very little in the long run (if you truly look at how those games used to work and what you got for all the effort put in).

Sure the game might be aimed more at “casual” players or so some say. I like to think it aims for all players and is more like wanting casual play. Yet at the same time you still CAN spend lots of time here doing things. But the way it’s designed is to be more fun rather than grind or “you must do this first before you can get to the fun stuff”. Is this really a bad thing?

If you have run out of things to do try a different game for a bit or do something totally different for a while. I really don’t know why people seem to act like they can’t function, live life or whatever because this game or any other can’t fill that “babysitter” role. Not to mention that the game is dying because of this.

I hope I didn’t sound rude there, I didn’t mean too. :P

To devs > Boon-ripping and bosses

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

If this would happen people would just stack more conditions instead and then you would ask for more condition removal. Then people would just go for more raw power. Then you would probably ask for more HP for the boss. So where would it end?

In the end we would have more QQ posts, “you nerfed Boons!”, “you nerfed conds!” and “you nerfed everything!”

Boons are in the game for a reason. If bosses fall too fast due to everyone stacking might perhaps the solution would be to have that boss cast more weakness to counter it/balance it out. I dunno but it seems a bit silly to make a certain boon or two worthless.

I do agree bosses SHOULD have special mechanics per each boss. Maybe the odd boss here or there can have might boon removal so people have to play differently per each boss. But certainly not every boss. That would just be another annoying defiant type cheap/lazy tactic.

I don’t think that the expansion will bring in too many extra items. If this was like another game that I used to play (Runescape); it was needed there for them to upgrade storage capacity as with new updates they would always bring in a ton of new items.

Here a lot of them can be currencies or if crafting mats simply added to the storage panel. This was not the case in that other said game. Everything went to bank slots there, mind you however the stack limit there went into the billion mark…..

Summary:

I think it’s far too early to assume too many new items will come with the expansion and that the wallet and/or crafting tabs will not be able to hold them..

You bringing a valid point and I think this is one of the reasons why nothing like this is implemented in the game.

How many players out there want to play with “no one can whisper me but I don’t want to miss out on guild chat” mode on? And maybe it is better for Anet to focus on goldseller bans instead of adding questionable functionality to the game?

Questionable how so? Heaven forbid I can have the option of being able to block random people from whispering me! Wow just wow… No that would inconvenience other players too much!

The only time slow is fun or cool is in “bullet time” situations. Now if Anet could pull something off like that somehow in combat, then wow just wow I will eat my hat and say “yes please!”. I’m not sure if that could work in conjunction with environment effects however.

I could imagine a new Elite Specialisation for some class to become like a drunken boxer, again – cool. But again probably nothing to do with environment effects.

If you could come up with some cool/interesting examples of how slow (and any other effect for that matter) could work or be cool/fun then I could be swayed.

I would like to see some bosses where you have to kill or break various parts of it first before you could damage the main body. You see a lot of examples like this in the Final Fantasy games.

A good example could be a Kraken or Hydra where you have to destroy all the arms/heads. Another could be a giant with a massive shield in his hands, break his shield then you can hit him. Don’t even mention Claw of Jormag and the shield, that’s just……annoying to say the least lol..the one time (that I recall) they did do this for a boss and it’s done so annoyingly (pick up weapon, use weapon, repeat over and over and over). :P

Nothing more really needs to be said on the issue. But it would be great if you at least got some kind of reply from Anet. Even if to say, “thanks for your post/idea your concerns have been noted”. That would at least be something lol.

Yeah, but with the way things have been going, as pessimistic as it sounds, I doubt I’d hear from them about this issue before HoT – if at all.

The only previous response I got was from Gaile saying something about the mail system, which had absolutely nothing to do with what I was talking about, as it was the same issue that I’ve brought up in this thread.

Even an “it’s being looked into” would suffice. Silence is an absolutely horrid way to handle PR in situations like this.

It’s funny you mentioned the mail system. As I was thinking if they did add these privacy options would it also effect mails? I would be fine if it did not as it would give players another option (along with the incoming mentor system you mentioned) with those I posted above if they do need help.

Funny enough with the whisper gold selling ads we also do get the mails from them too. So I think if these options were added they might just change more to the mails. Like I said I would be fine with that because you can usually ignore mails for a while if you are doing something atm (such as in the middle of a pvp match). But whispers, blah they can get in the way in said cases and usually you want to always take note of them when they come through.

We can be vigilant and hope they do take notice of this post and reply.

TBH it just boggles my mind we do not already have such privacy options. Anet are usually pretty good with the “prevention is better than the cure” mind set. Look at all the QOL things we have and just how the game is set up. No kill stealing, no competition for nodes etc. All these things are PREVENTATIVE rather than a cure for those old problems.

I also think that having such privacy issues may even help detect, remove gold sellers from the game. Think about it, if gold sellers soon see they have far less people they can contact for their adverts they will have to resort to the map chats. Sure it may be a tad more annoying to see more of these messages in map chat. However being they are displayed here there is a greater chance they will get reported and removed from the game.

Nothing more really needs to be said on the issue. But it would be great if you at least got some kind of reply from Anet. Even if to say, “thanks for your post/idea your concerns have been noted”. That would at least be something lol.

What some people don’t understand is depending on what you do in game you can easily become a target of these gold sellers and other spammers/nasties.

For example I notice that if I am playing SPvP and talking often in the map chat between matches (out of boredom, to help answer questions or whatever) you will soon become a target. The same can be said for if you are in a city crafting or whatever or just doing daily/map complete out in the world. Basically if you speak in chat often you can soon become a target.

This may not be a problem for people who just play wvw (less people to see you speaking since you can’t see the 2 enemy team’s chat), run dungeons all day or who are naturally quiet/shy in game or whatever. But for those of us who are vocal, usually because we like to help people this can soon become a problem.

Additional privacy options will in no way effect the game in a negative way. Oh you say but what if people need help and can’t whisper random people? Well there are other options, all they need to do is use their initiative. Such as:

1 – Ask in map chat.
2 – Ask people on their friends list.
3 – Come to the forums.
4 – Use the wiki or google.

There are plenty of options. For those of you who are saying make another chat window and block whispers. This is no answer. Why should I miss out on whispers from people who I want them from (friends) simply to just block out the nasties? Would you go and deafen yourself just to not listen to people who are annoying/loud or would you move away from these people and ignore them? Seems pretty extreme to me the latter.

2. I travel far too much to bother with my own house. I’d never spend more than a night or two there a month anyway, if even that. (though to be fair, I loved housing in Wildstar. A lot. Definitely a lot. Did that more than playing the actual game, even.)

3. My asura works as an engineer, and (spoiler!) won the Savant prize. Now she’s working for the Order of Whispers to fight Shaitan and save the world. How is she supposed to keep another job? “Sorry, I know your town is under attack and all, and I know your family is being butchered, but these newspapers don’t deliver themselves!”

4 and 5: Crafting? Exploring is fun (finding vistas, points of interest, jumping puzzles etc.) Lots of stuff to do here. Heck, I played my lvl 43 Guardian earlier today, and discovered by accident that I hadn’t even started on Caldeon forest, and have only four hearts done in Gendarran fields. By the time she’s 80, there will still be tons of areas to explore I haven’t even visited. And that before the expansion. The expansion adds hanggliding and learning new languages to find new areas too. Wonder what’s after that? Could be anything.

6. I’d love mounts, but to be fair, they aren’t needed in this game. Adding them would probably just be too much work. I’d get on my motorcycle, travel around for thirty minutes, get bored and start teleporting to waypoints again. What’s the point in mounts?

Thanks for your input

1 – Have done all of it on 2 chars so far, 6 more chars to go….

2 – Who’s to say if done right you may not love housing here as well? I think you might going by how it effected you in that other game.

3 – How you fight or kill the baddies to me is more of a style of combat and not really a job…. Sure Anet made the mistake of calling them “professions” but still. Right now we have a break from saving the world, it’s a perfect time to deliver those newspapers and earn a little more coin to help fund the world saving. It is also a good way to stay fit and be prepared!

4 – There is lots, but sadly for some of us it has all been done. I have world complete on 9 chars so far and my 10th is 3 maps from being done. Have done all JPs, all dungeon paths and mini dungeons. I am not saying there is nothing I have left to do because there is. But the exploring side is done, I have that well and truly done. I am sure there are many other people in the same boat with this regard.

I do admit it does seem like HOT will bring a LOT more. But still, those random dungeon mechanics can as I said add YEARS of playable content if done right and can add a sense of new exploring every time. If anyone here has ever played a Civilisation game you should know what I mean. Every game seems different because it’s always a new randomly generated world. Sure they look similar but they still feel different every time. It can go a lot further than that when it’s done in dungeons as you can have a lot of different terrain types all randomly linked to each other. I may have to make a better post in future regarding this as well more in depth lol..

6 – I never said I wanted mounts in fact I said the opposite. :P The point in most other games is usually 2 fold. 1 Status/actual movement bonus and 2 a good way for the game makers to make lots of money and fast. Still waiting for my flying Harley but I can’t see that ever happening in any game lol…

From what I gather “Living World” from Anet’s perspective is the danger this world faces or the politics. Am I correct in this?

No, I think you are wrong.

We (the player character) are a hero and have to face grave dangers and big bad enemies and have to survive and save the world because that is our job as a hero. This is the foundation of the story of GW2, but that has nothing to do with “living world”.

“Living World” means, that the story that is told and the events that happen really change the world of the game, as it would be in a real, living world. No “reset button”. And in part that is true. As an example: Tyria has changed and is different before and after the LS1 and LS2 happened.

“By darling. Maybe I am late this evening. because I may have to slay a dragon and save the world today.” – “Have a nice day at work..”

“Living World” in GW2 does not mean Sims or something like that.

This is pretty much what I was saying. My point was it is defined mainly by the story and the results of how that turns out. The rest of my post was how can we or should we make that living world even better or in the least give us more immersion into this world and feel more a part of it.

Living World to me is a dynamic and more fluid game environment. Where actions done in game by players have a more drastic effect on the world itself. Which seems like something that Anet started but didn’t finish or didn’t go far enough.

Lets take Queensdale for example.
-Queensdale has threats of bandits, centaurs, and undead(around SB).
-Say players primarily focus on undead, then bandits and centaurs would expand their influence on Queensdale, possibly even have bandits more active in DR.
-Or players focus on centaurs then undead would expand in numbers and influence possibly even overtaking bandits(making them undead) and could start conquering more of Queensdale and maybe a massive event of a undead attack on DR.

As stated GW2 seems to have some elements that promote this, dynamic events for example and some aspects in SW, but even those are very static and timed. Turning open world into a more fluid sandbox type gameplay is something that GW2 has a missed opportunity on imo.

I would really like it if they went back and did make it more like you describe above. Just the Queensdale example would be awesome. But I think the problem may be that it would just seem like we can’t win or have the upper hand. As if we are dealing with one enemy another will just fill their shoes. I don’t know maybe some kind of middle ground could be thought up.

1. I would love to have politics really affect the world. I had a very fun exchange with another player in the forum if Legat Minister Caudecus could actually manage to overthrow Jenna if he plays his cards right or why Jenna can´t take immediate and swift Justice against him. Stuff like that is what makes these types of worlds great, and i had the highest of hopes for GW2 when they announced that sites could permanently change owners and monsters could spit into your virtual soup.
How disappointed I was to see what that really means for Anet, a of chain events leading to a sad and unsatisfying end event. But that is ok on a second glance, even the real sandbox MMO like Eve Online will never allow a home base invasion scenario of empire room.
I also realize that which I seek is hard to implement, but it was something that lured me here, beside the strong effect of GW1 too.
2. My characters live on the road, in a tavern or on the battlefield. If I wanted them to settle down, I´d retire them^^.
3. I already have a RL job and don´t need another, thank you very much.^^
4. The most unfunny thing in the whole of GW2 is the boxes o´fun(are they Irish?^^). True story. For me personally, JP come a really close second and the SaB comes third, but thereby you see how people find these things differently good. I can live with the soutshun events and halloween, hate contest drinking, dislike the winterland, can tolerate the runnning event and massively dislike the dragonball stuff.
5. Fully support this.
6. Also support this. Why torture a horse with carrying around a heavy guy in heavy armor while you can teleport the same way?

Thanks for your feed back!

1 – It would be cool if more of the politics were played out as the example that you give. Simply because when you have other intelligent beings as your opponent there is more threat as they can persuade people to do all the wrong things. I am not saying the elder dragons are not intelligent beings but really how everyone else sees them it’s more like waiting for a tornado or some other natural disaster to hit. They bring destruction yes but not much else. Okay now with the influencing of the Sylvari race maybe this is slowly changing so they seem more like a real threat.

2 – Fair enough. :P

3 – Yes but I am sure you do your job for either the Bling or because you have to. What I am proposing would be something fun or as a bonus to what we already have.

4 – You seem 50/50 on this one which makes sense since not everyone will like ALL the mini games. I don’t play most of them or do the daily activity mainly because of the lag/latency issues, but that’s what I get for living on the other side of the world I guess….
But if this was addressed and they were removed from daily so we could pick which to play when we feel like it I probably would do so more. As this way you could practice at your own pace and not have to wait for a specific day for it to roll around….

5/6 – Cheers.

Personal Housing

i see no need for this in the game at all. and to me it would be no more different then going to a town . only difference is the town would be empty besides we got something i think it is called home instance . and if any thing it be nice to see more add there then this #justsaying

Housing wouldn’t be inside cities only. It could be in the explorable zones. In there, I could make crafting stations there.

pass much rather have good high end drop,s in pve instead or even a few need fixes instead of housing

Dumb reason not to have personal housing.

oh well too bad . there is just not one reason at all . for personal housing home instance and towns take care of it well. just another thing this game can do with out

You want a reason? Fine, how about another way for Anet to make cash off those of us who are willing to spend it for new skins or items that we could use in our houses. BANG, there’s a reason, maybe not for you but for Anet and funny enough I think it’s them who makes these decisions and not you. :P

In fact they have said in the past that they would like to bring them into the game. However I am sure they said at the time when it is the right time (when other priority’s were taken care of) and when they have figured out a good way to do them. Unlike other game makers they like to put things into their game that actually work well and bring something new or cool to the game and not just put something in for the sake of it.

A good example of this at beta was the crafting system. The system over the one in gw1 was a vast improvement and dare I say even better than how a lot of other games do it – great big grind/time sinks.

nope do not need a reason at all for any thing on this . and far as skins goes they are just a waste of time at best . any one who spends money on skins sure does not know what they are doing. besides making a new armor set . with the runes one wants on that set is far more better then any skin . at lest the armor has a use unlike skin,s which is noting more then a vanity deal . guild wars one did NOT have a crafting system like gw2 at all . also at lest in gw1 you did not have to deal with the skin problem at all like you all do in gw2 and like i said that is noting more then a vanity problem

Different strokes for different folks. We will have to agree to disagree. Besides if added you can always choose to ignore them or not take part in. Simple solution really.

Your post here mainly seems to be with regards to the Job system. As I said I would not want it to effect the current crafting system (or at least too much if possible) as that is already well and truly in place and people are used to if after these 3 years.

I did say it could offer us bonuses instead of say a total overhaul if that would be as far as Anet would like to take it. Such as a “miner” could have increased chances of getting the extra ores from rocks per swing, a “woodcutter” could work the same for trees. Alongside that new jobs such as fisherman etc could bring into the game new resources. Again this could mean NOT ONLY that job class could catch fish but maybe only that job could have a chance at the higher reward say the tier 6 version. This could work retro active too for the others.

But the very best they could do is add totally new jobs which could bring in new mini games within themselves or just add new things to do, new ways to play, new progression and rewards.. Think of it as our profession Elite specialisations but not totally combat orientated. I guess I should think up more examples here and I may do in future to hammer down more what I could imagine for this part of my entire thread. I didn’t want to go too indepth into each thing as the thread was long enough as it was. Also the main point of this thread was to also see what others thought about the “living world” concept as a whole and what they think it means or could mean.

" If you can explain why sandboxes are “just ewww”"

I specifically said eww for the secondlife type as that is all I have experienced I guess when it comes to what people call “sandbox”. By that statement I meant the game has no story, no lore, no real direction besides what the players create. It’s more of a world where people just muck around doing whatever. Again, that is not what I am asking for here or imagining. I would want anything added to fit into what we have, even work alongside of or to enhance our ways forward with the game in general as well as the Living story aspect.

As such again I will give guild halls as a good example. This coming feature will no doubt be something new for us and offer us new things to do. But like I said above we can see Anet is not just throwing it in as a new toy to be left all alone by itself. No it is actually going to be along side the living story and perhaps be part of it in some way to actually earn the hall with possibly future threats of losing it and such.

They should just simply save them in WvW/PvP along side our specialisation setups. I don’t play my thief in WvW, I main my engi but even so if someone else stealth’s me for whatever reason It would be nice not to have to worry about your mini nullifying that.

I am forever having to remember to go into the mini screen to turn off every time I enter WvW, very annoying.

I wouldn’t mind proper zombies as an other, additional Alternate Pet Pack
but I’d prefer human skeletons to be my minions and battle thralls

I guess you don’t play in Orr too much. So sick of seeing zombies, not only here but the very many, many, many games, movies and TV programmes now that are over saturated with zombies, zombies, zombies. But that’s just me. :P

I think what they mean by the Living World is simply that the existing maps can and will be included in the story and will change as a result, instead of all being permanently frozen in time and new events only occurring in new maps.

All of Season 1 and much of Season 2 of the Living World storyline took place in the maps that were available at launch and several of them were changed (new look, new events, changes to existing hearts and events etc.). The most obvious are Kessex Hills which is a bit of a wasteland since the Tower of Nightmares and Lion’s Arch which had to be completely re-built. But there’s also the Marionette remains in Lornar’s Pass, the steam vents and Cragstead in Wayfarer’s Foothills, the enraged wildlife and new settlements on Southsun, the destroyed forts that Mordremoth attacked and many more.

It’s part of their idea of encouraging players to consider the entire game as ‘end-game’ content instead of abandoning the majority of the open world and it’s storylines in favour of a few designated activities once they get to level 80.

What you’re asking for is basically a sandbox RPG. These do exist but they’re very different games and it would be virtually impossible to convert an existing game into one.

Thanks for your input. I certainly do not think adding any new/more content to the game is impossible at all. If this was the case guild halls and such things wouldn’t even be coming. They have mentioned wanting to do player housing before and you certainly can not tell me that I am dreaming up these abandoned mini games.

If the living story is all that they or even us players have in mind for creating a “living world” then I would say that is very short sighted and very limited content wise. There is great opportunity not only for more content and game play options but also for more things to be available on the gem store pertaining to that.

More people just need to think out side of the box and certainly more outside of this game being nothing more (or very little I should say) than combat, combat, combat. This game was an improvement over GW1 in that regard, albeit very slightly. I am talking of course of the much improved crafting system, gathering resources and things such as JPs, adventure box etc. All I am saying is it can all go much further with some thought and imagination.

Heaven forbid they even do what some other companies do and actually ask us what we want. They could make a post asking for ideas for future content. Have it up for a month or so, gain feedback from all of that. Make short lists of what they think could work great and what they could do. From that then offer a poll of which we would like to come into the game first out of said content or if we do want that type of content.

Other games do this and it seems to work.

So nobody else have any ideas or dreams of how they would like to see this game “evolve” beyond the story that is put on us?

Edit: I certainly would not want the game to be sandbox such as Secondlife is, that’s just ewww. That is not what I am imagining here, not at all.

If I recall in GW1 the creatures were more the Skeleton type. Unless I am wrong, I do have a necro there but I never got around to playing it. I always thought the reason they turned away from the skeleton type was for the fact that we don’t need dead bodies anymore to summon them since they did away with that.

It’s more like that you summon your creatures now from some other dimension, thus the demon type things. Still, I want my skeletons! :P

I more had the impression that those pets are all flesh and bone golems. None of them ever lived. The Flesh Wurm is the only ‘real’ zombie.

Hmm I haven’t been playing gw1 enough recently to really remember. I do jump on every day now to do my daily but like I said I havnt really played my necro there or use my necro heroes too often I guess. I was sure there was something more akin to it than here tho…
Or were you referring to our GW2 minions?

6 – Travel/Mounts:

Yes I said the “m” word. We obviously have a way to travel right now, being waypoints and walking of course. But just think about the waypoint system right now, does it make sense? Yes it does when you travel through a portal to another map as you are being sent through the “magic” or technology of that portal. But how does it work when we just open our maps and click on a waypoint and we are suddenly there? I don’t think this has ever been answered. We are obviously not using a portal so what is it? Does some kind of an invisible thing come from out of no where and just throws us into a portal?

Okay that is all rather redundant but I feel it had to be said. :P
The waypoint system works well for getting to where you need to and in a hurry. But do we have too many waypoints, does this make content too easy to get to or destroy a sense of immersion? Honestly probably yes but I don’t care it works. So why even mention any of this? Well I don’t know lol maybe I just miss some sort of travel such as boats and such. I really did enjoy the hot air balloons when they were here as it added reality and a sense of immersion. Perhaps we could just have new sorts of travel added for future maps going forward after HOT? Heck even that elevator pod thing in the Grove is a cool way to travel.

Mounts – No, just no. Yes I tricked some of you, so that’s all I will say about mounts. :P

Okay I think that’s about it finally! Thank you all for reading (those who did) and now I would like your feedback and ideas!

Summary: I think we could do we more things in the game that creates a sense of “living world” besides just the living story. Things that would make us feel more a part of the world and not just some “hero” that happens to always be around when ever needed. I don’t JUST want to be a hero I want to be a normal joe as well doing normal things (but they have to be fun of course!). That’s all.

4 – Fun things, entertainment:

Some mini games do exist in the game and they are part of the daily activities. There are also the ones that come back from time to time during holidays as well of course as the Asura game box thing (sorry the name escapes me right now lol). We also know that more were planned to be added to the game but have been either abandoned or again put on the backburner for now.

Why do we need them? That’s obvious, for fun, something different to do in the game when we are bored of everything else or just burnt out. It can also give us things to do between living stories. No need to spend too much more time on this one. Perhaps after HOT is here and now that the backbone of the game is pretty much in place Anet can get back to working on the mini game features they wanted when this game was released?

5 – Exploring.

The game world is averagy (I know the word does not exist but I just made it up so we are fine here!) large and does have many things to explore. The maps themselves, mini dungeons, Jp’s, normal dungeons; all these things do add to exploring.

Having said that I do think there could be more. Yes HOT is coming and it will have large maps to explore so maybe that can last us for a great deal of time to come. But still I would like more, lol call me greedy.

I don’t want to ask for a new map every week, I think that would just be silly. But perhaps opening places up a bit more could help. An example could be to open up the current dungeons as an “explore” mode. NO I do not mean new “explore Missions” or anything to do with the current dungeons. Right now dungeons to me are just “missions” or “quests” and are NOT truly exploreable. What I mean is open them up perhaps as a new small map where we can go in, explore, kill things and perhaps even gather resources. This would NOT effect dungeons in their current forms or replace them. Just give us new places to explore and play basically.

Apart from that, I don’t know perhaps more mini dungeons or similar content. I would really like some sort of a “randomized” type of dungeon or some such place tho. Other games have these types of systems and I think it could be a great addition here. How they work are you enter said place and each new floor is randomized in some way. The layout, challenges as well as enemy creatures. A feature like this if done right can add YEARS of gameplay to the game especially if new things (layouts, challenges, creatures are added to them from time to time).

I realise this may sound similar to Fractals but no it’s not. Fractals are more a randomised “mission” format with very set in place maps, creatures and challenges. How this is done in other games is you could have maps that seem VERY different from each other and you may never see any 2 look too similar at all.

I don’t know how much more of an example I can give, but one game that has something like this is Runescape if anyone wants to look further into it.

Apart from that perhaps new “islands” or sea areas we could book passage on to new lands to explore and perhaps those too could be randomized, dunno I think I am going beyond my original ideas here now lol.

2 – Player Housing:

To a very basic extent we do have our Home Instance which I am sure many of us had expected far more when the info for these was announced. However it seems due to various reasons (probably other priorities) this seems to have been abandoned or left on the back burner for a very long time.

Why are these important for a game and why do we need them? Well it adds a sense of reality or immersion to the world. It gives us somewhere to call home and gives us something to care about or be attached to. In a way it can make us care MORE for the world itself and the dangers to it. If your home in the real world was under threat from some danger would you not then jump at the chance to defend it or risk your life to keep it safe?

But what could a player house offer us in terms of gameplay?

1 – It can offer diversity (different houses to build/buy from everyone else).
2 – A place for people to Roleplay.

3 – New features, bonuses – examples could be extra storage, ways to generate items for yourself (example farming patches or trees) or even personal things to play with (training dummy) and mini games (I will also touch on mini games further below).

4 – A place to show off achievements. GW1 players would know of what I speak here, just think Hall of Monuments. This could be GW2’s version of that. A place to display statues, titles, items earned in game etc etc. Maybe new boss trophies or collection rewards could improve on this.

5 – A new sense of progression. Example building your house up from a lowly cottage to perhaps a full blown mansion or castle. This could bring in new gameplay elements and things to do. Think masteries here people, we could have a whole new mastery as part of the housing system.

3 – Having a job or career:

Ok some people may find this one sort of odd or may just be sarcastic and say something like “go and play Sims”. I think having a sort of job or some such could add a great new element to the game. It is sort of already in the game in the form of crafting, but to me that is a very shallow way of doing it.

Why need jobs? Well again it adds a sense of diversity for your char, a role that is different from other players in the game to a degree. It also gives you a sense that you are part of a community and doing your part. Lastly it can add new things to do in the game.

So how would we have jobs in this game? Tbh I really don’t know. I would not want it to mess up the crafting system or interfere with it. Perhaps just some new basic “jobs” added or “bonuses” added to our chars that let us do different things or gain bonuses in different ways. An example could be a “fisherman” might be able to gather from a new type node in the world. Or a “hunter/gatherer” could have a bonus or new skill to be able to “skin” animals when killed for a guaranteed hide from the creature if they normally drop them.

I wont spend too much time on this one but I am sure many people could come up with many great ideas. But you see my point I hope as to why I think they could be a great new thing for the game.
