Most zones surrounded by mountains

Okay, so i know i will be flamed for creating this thread seeing as you get flamed for anything that can even be slightly percieved as negative about the game. But rest assured pro-arena net lobby, i do love this game and will keep loving it for years to come, so with that out of the way, lets get to it.

Is it just me or does anyone else find it a bit awkward that almost every zone in this game is a little perfect square surrounded by mountains? Now it was a while since i played guild wars 1 but i feel like the zone borders there felt a bit more natural, maybe because the game didnt have any jumping. Maybe Anet should think about trying to make the zone borders look more natural going forward instead of always going with the easy solution of mountains?

Comment below what you think about this issue.

Yeah tbh I do agree. I like that the maps are mostly perfectly square or rectangle but I do agree with regards to it being mountains 99% of the time as borders.

I was playing some Dragon Age 3 recently and it really struck out at me how differently they did it in that game and the various other options they used.

Some of the things they used instead of mountains all the time were:

1 – Rivers that you could not cross or enter
2 – Deep thick forest edges
3 – Big canyons or gorges

Not only did it add more variety, realism and immersion to the environment but it added a very good look and feel to the game. I got that “wow this looks awesome/cool” feeling all over again instead of “oh, more mountains, nm carry on….”

Don’t worry OP, at the time I also felt like speaking out about it here and was going to make a thread as well but tbh these days besides discussing it with just ourselves (the players) what’s the point? Nothing much changes anymore, they just don’t have enough resources or seem to bother about the little things anymore and that just makes me feel .

Actually it’s not the fact that they have little resources or dedicated resources to certain things that makes me sad. I think it’s more the fact that they don’t even discuss anything much with us these days us. So it feels like if they can’t even talk with us about the things we would like what’s the point? Even if it’s just a:

1 – “that sounds cool maybe we will think about it in the future” or

2 – “that’s cool but right now we just can’t…” or

3 – “that can never really happen sorry because….”

Hopefully now you get my point, not (filter lol) bagging on anyone just how I see it.

I haven’t read all the replies so far so if what I say has been said before, please just ignore.

So you want the story but wont spend real cash because you would feel like you are cheating? You could grind it out in game and have it not feel like cheating but it seems like too much work? I hope this is what you mean or close to it lol.

You could look at it this way instead, take me for example I got ALL of the stories for free simply for playing the game as intended and logging in within the required time frames. I did not work hard for them, all I did was simply log in when it was required.
Now I could look at that as ME cheating because I got it all for free when there are players like you who missed out and have to pay for it if they want it.

So my advice, just buy the gems and pay for the stories if you just want to experience them and have fun with them. Forget the gem to gold ratio, just focus on what’s fun for you in this game and roll with it. You are not cheating the company or the “legit” players like myself. In fact you missed out on getting a “nice gift” at the time it was available and now have to PAY for that gift. If anything YOU should feel like the cheated party here. That’s how I would feel if I was in your situation.

Well that’s my opinion, hope it helps some lol.

I get where you are coming from with this but I just can’t see it working. We may get the old Trinity problems. “Looking for 2 more for fractals – charr only!” No one wants that.

Way back I had made a suggestion for classes to have certain bonuses. Example Rangers could skin animals for hides etc. Was a few years ago now but it’s still there if I search hard enough I guess lol. It would not have been game changing I don’t think just adding flavour to the classes a bit more. Maybe something like that could work for the races but I doubt it will ever get any traction because……Anet.

Oh I see so you are a ele staff in zerk gear? Explains it, heck even when my ele was in pvt gear he was still super squishy. I think the problem is you are using staff which has little blocks/invulns etc.

And yes with staff you will tickle. If you are mainly in Fire the Meteor is on the low side because it’s AOE. Also the skill 2 is your main damage besides skill one. And for 2 people will move out of the circle. You might want to go earth mainly and try to condi them down with the aoe skill 2 but that’s boring lol.

Also being that you are ele people will single you out knowing you are squishy. The thing about ele is they are squishy/have low HP pool because they have a lot of blocks etc which sadly it sounds like you are not using.

If you REALLY want to play staff ele it might be best to go more of a tanky build and just except you will tickle them and stick with the zerg. This will mean you are playing more of an outlast/survive mode rather than damage dealer. This is believe it or not what most do (I think) that belong to the zerg anyway.

Not as fun as roaming but that’s how it is. Other classes will just out heal you/block etc if you only have skill 1 and 3 as your main damage from fire staff. With your low HP pool and lack of blocks/invulns from staff you will be – out survived.

All I can say is this, before Luck came into the game and when Magic Find was only there as stats on gear I never saw an exotic drop and rare drops were indeed “rare”. I actually got white drops too. Now it seems white drops are the new “rare/exotic” lol believe it or not!

Now however I see rares fairly common and exotics actually DO drop for me. So imo/experience luck/magic find works. In fact I have a funny feeling it may even work better than people think/admit/remember without them even realizing it.

Put it this way, if they removed luck/magic find and went back to the old system I think then people would see the difference. Maybe most of us just don’t remember/realize how bad it was before the changes came.

I would suggest taking a closer look at the type of damage you are taking as there is a VERY good chance that it is conditions that is killing you. Which if that is the case your armour rating wont help you at all.

I’m not sure how long it has been since you have played but they have made conditions OP to the point if ridiculousness. It may be this that you are dealing with without even realizing it.

If You Had a Choice Of New Class

Excluding a scythe or musical instruments, couldn’t all this be accomplished via Elite Specs, rather than adding new classes? I think we’re done with new classes and will only see more Elites added, including more profession mechanics.

I don’t see a bard working well considering how short skills are. They’d all be playing (war)horns, too. Perhaps a bard in the party adds party-wide buffs, so there’s some sort of maintenance cost? Or you can only choose one, which represents whichever tune the bard is humming? I dunno.

Anet hasn’t yet shown any interest in adding weapons, so I wouldn’t hold out for a GW1-style dervish. That doesn’t eliminate something like a Mesmer wielding a hammer dervish-style, right?

Priest = Guardian Elite.
Ritualist = Rev Elite.
etc…

Well we already do have a couple of Scythe staff skins so it wouldn’t be hard for them to simply create a Dervish Elite with a staff as the primary weapon and giving a decent looking Scythe skin for the class reward.

As for musical instruments I really don’t know. As mentioned we already do have the musical instruments in game which could be used skin wise but for which weapons I’m not sure. Perhaps just skills 6-10?

They could go corny and do something like:

1 – Short bow used for a violin or something (add a few extra strings lol).
2 – Staff hollowed out and used for a didgeridoo – imagine that!
3 – Scepter/Mace used for a Microphone.
4 – Hammer turned upside down and used as a Guitar – now that would be rocking!

I don’t think we need anymore classes because future elites can cover pretty much anything we can think up.

Having said that I would like a class/elite that is musically inclined. Say oh I don’t know a “bard” or something. Instead of shouts they could sing or play a musical instrument. I would think Mes would be a good choice or maybe Engi as well.

Missing Backpack Skins in Bank?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Paulytnz.7619

Some skins don’t show by default in the bank, unless you’ve unlocked them. The Lava Skull and anniversary backpacks are among those.

That’s kind of silly of ANet to do that. If they are hidden not everyone will know they are an option and do the content to get them. They should all be unlocked to show all those possible skins and content.

Agreed and from what I understand it’s not just back skins. Can anyone confirm?

I know new gem store items don’t show up on the character wardrobe, at least for a while (not sure about bank wardrobe). Which I thought was not a good design. I’ve wanted to preview new items before purchase from my character wardrobe and couldn’t, because I didn’t own them already. Seems like ANet would figure that easy access to previews would increase sales.

Agreed, it would be logical advertising especially for those with OCD that just have to collect everything.

Very Awesome work indeed! Thank you for this. However having said that I am going to be a pain and suggest a few more items if I may, sorry. Please also ignore if someone else has mentioned them before me. So here they are:

General
Zinc Ore
Nickel Ore
Bauxite Ore

Being these are easily obtained (simply from mining) they are easily come by and as such should have their own spots in the bank and be able to be sent back to the bank. I would be VERY surprised if no one has mentioned these before I.

An additional Idea as to Structure – Fine Mats
I have one more request that I think is something you guys may have overlooked the last time you added things to the collection tab. That being for the Fine Materials set we now have 6 lines instead of the original 5. What this means is you guys could move the tier 6 mats (bones/bloods/fangs etc) from the side and place them in the bottom line so they can be all nice and neatly inline with the other tiers above them.

What I mean is, looking at the list top to bottom we would see tier1-6 mats looking all nice and neat and the other misc items to this section can be off to the side where the tier 6 used to be. Please my OCD begs you for this lmao.

Okay that’s all I have to say I think, but once again thanks for this! Especially the Doubloons, I have been waiting 5 years and hanging on to them for this lol!

Revert back to allowing guilds to be small

I have had my guild since day 1 of the game and there was just 1 other in it besides myself. Before HOT came we had all bank and vault spaces open and a few other things. We didn’t do missions back then because we didn’t think we could do them.

Fast forward to now and since HOT arrived. Since then we have both started to do missions for points and found there are some we can do. Now there is only just me in the guild and guess what I can still solo some of the guild missions!

Ones I can do:

Bounties – I can solo Poobado and that Skritt with his bear in Harathi. Can be tricky sometimes but you can get lucky if other people are around to help.

Races – You just have to make sure to turn up when the time of the day is busy for your server location. You just need to activate the mission and join in another guild’s race and if they reach the total amount needed – bam it will count for your guild if you talk to the NPC at the end of the race.

Trek – you only need to find 5-6 places in their easy version of this. Perfectly doable if you have the Wiki up and a fast enough computer for the loading screens. Only if you get hit with some of the annoying/tricky JP’s will it be a problem.

So having said all that, it is still perfectly fine to level up small guild halls. You just have to give it a try! Not only that but now I can even earn commendations which I never used to be able to.

Could they make it easier for small guilds? Sure they could I guess but will they? Probably not but good luck with that!

Just a tip: You can start the higher tiers of treks and just complete ONE of the required places and you will get the chest reward for doing so. The same goes for races you just need to complete the race once yourself and you will get your personal reward. However doing these wont count as the mission being complete for the guild points.

Ground targeting change

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

In the past I have suggested a far better system but it seems no one cares enough about it including Anet who probably don’t have the resources atm to do it even if they really wanted to.

My ideal system would be something like this:

For every weapon and utility skill that is ground target we could have a right click option and set it to fire/act how we like. Example you right click the skill one time to set it up and are presented with check boxes with the following options:

A – Fire where I aim (the default Aoe Field/circle/whatever).
B – Fire at my target.
c – Fire on myself.

Once selected this would ideally be remembered for every and any time we use those skills. Even after changing kits/weapons, logging out for 5 years and then returning to the game. :P

As you can imagine I main Engi myself and as such I run 2 kits at all times and the supply drop Elite but I do switch in the Mortar as needed in cases like PvP and WVW. Flamethrower and Elixir gun are my kits of choice. Having said that the above examples I gave we could set up our skills/kits and supply as so:

For Flamethrower – Only skill here really that is ground targeted is 3 the fire wall. It’s a no brainer I would want to fire this at my enemy as that is how I use this skill mostly for extra burn/regular damage. Some people may prefer to aim it manually if they mainly use it for combo fields.

Elixir Gun – Skill 5 – fire on myself. Obviously for the HP regen, condi removal and then I can hit skill 4 for an extra condi removal from the combo.

Supply Drop – The skill itself I would choose to fire at my enemy or aimed as I mainly use it for an Aoe stun on groups of enemies. The Toolbelt I would leave as where I aim as I usally drop them where needed for other people around me to use.

Mortar Kit – Skill 1 fire at my oppnt while also being auto fire, no more button spam crap! Yes I know if my target is on the move I will more than likely miss them but that’s fine. The healing field (skill 3? I forget off the top of my head) at either myself or aimed. The other skills again at my target.

As you can see I would be using all 3 right click options depending on the skills/needs at the time. Right now with the current system we have we can’t do this. It’s only one of them at any given time. Not good. Especially for a game that is trying hard to make it a esports game.

One would think for an esports game you would want as much control of your char/skills as possible and have the system be as smooth as possible for you to be playing at the best of your ability. Not a system with very clunky mechanics that can turn people off some classes totally.

But that’s where we are at today because, well umm yeah just because lol.

Does toughness increase your agro threat?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

Now here’s something people may not be prepared for imo:

Toughness CAN work, and again if EVERYONE is using it or the majority of them are. Huh but what!? How so, you are killing slower!? Think about it why does zerk work? It’s not only because they kill faster. Even some bosses still take ages to kill if everyone is in zerk gear after all. So what is the other factor then? Well, simply put, everyone spreads the damage taken around them. What I mean is because they are all in a similar “toughness” range they are all targeted from time to time from various mobs and the bosses depending on the combat situation and the mechanics/aggro conditions assigned to those creatures (as mentioned above they are different for all mobs/bosses).

You may be up close hitting the boss in the face alongside your other members but then take a hit too much so retreat a bit to heal. Doing this may then cause the boss/mob to hit the nearest “threat”. Thus you are spreading the damage around due to similar “toughness” and the battle situation, pulling back to heal and range a bit while they damage and take the damage.

Now back to the toughness. The same thing happens here. The only difference is you may be able to take an extra hit or 2 before having to retreat and you may not get downed at all, EVER depending on what other survival you have built into your build (hp regens, healing skills traits etc). But again this is if ALL or the majority of the party has toughness gear as well. Because again the party is spreading the damage around, pulling back when needed and have similar toughness to allow that sharing of damage around.

Does it take longer to kill the boss/mobs tho? Maybe, it might be slightly longer it still depends on build etc tho. My Engi main tho (and possibly Ele in toughness) I swear can still be just as effective and do very similar damage amounts with the right build.

Okay I have written too much for a simple question lol but it has been something I have meant to post for some time now in the “toughness vs Zerk” argument that I think people have not looked at.

TLDR:

So, is Toughness gear worth having? Short answer it depends. If you are fighting world bosses all day long why not? You will stay alive longer and help res allies and such. The kills will still go fast due to the zerg.

In PvP? Not really possible anymore. WvW? Yes use it here but take what you can to deal with condis. Fractals/Dungeons? If you know your class and are pugging – no. If you are running with a group of friends or guildies who are experiencing it all for the first time then maybe yes. But make sure you understand the group comp before hand and maybe make a group decision as to what the group will use as a whole.

Okay now I will shut up lmao.

Does toughness increase your agro threat?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

Let me tell you what I have noticed with toughness gear from my experience.

In the very old days when I did bother with dungeons just for the completion of those achievements I would notice that every single mob would focus me no matter what. That one dungeon where you have literally millions of devourers running around was no fun.

Out in the open field: About a week ago I completed the new map/story with my Ele who was still in toughness gear. Now I was not even attacking anything, just moving from story point to story point and gathering as I went. It wasn’t long before I was attacked by some annoying creature as I was gathering from a node simply because another player who had aggroed it bought it too close to me. Now you may think but that happens all the time as that player just left the attack range of the mob. Not true however as the other player stopped running to also gather from the same node I was. So I became the target simply because I was wearing the toughness gear even when I had not attacked the creature or any other creature anywhere and was not in a combat stance/status.

This continued through my whole experience of doing this map.

Toughness has it’s places in the game still but I think you have to know when, where and which classes to use it on. It is VERY important to understand that toughness alone wont keep you alive/standing and invincible. In fact it can become the complete opposite if you are not prepared for it because as I have said above you may become the target of all attacks. You need other things to help keep you alive. Such as food HP regen possibly, VIT stat, traits/skills from your class that bring extra healing. There are also runes that can help.

There has also been many debates on these forums over which is better to use, Zerk or Toughness based gear. You can also add in the Condi option now as a second sort of “Zerk”.

Now the Zerk side will argue it is better because you will wipe enemies faster and before they have too much time to damage you and wear you down. This is especially true for bosses.

On the other hand the toughness crowd will argue “but if I am in toughness gear and alive longer then I can help to res you and draw aggro while you are doing the damage”. Now this could sort of be true too.

What I think both sides fail to address is that it totally depends on the group as a whole and the comp. So lets look at a 5 man party in a dungeon setting. 4 going Zerk and 1 toughness would not be ideal (as I have experienced in my old days lol). Simply because that 1 Toughness guy may be still getting wiped simply because every mob is attacking him and the bosses may hit him with their 1 shot mechanics which he may not be prepared for or understand how to avoid.

The way I think it goes is like this:

Zerk works if everyone (or the majority if 1 random toughness or whatever else slips in without being noticed) is using it. Simply because they are doing a lot of damage and even if they are downed they get up quicker because they are still doing more damage when they are downed (helps to get a kill for an instant back to your feet). Also their allies are killing faster so again they can help to get that player back up.

If gw2 is dead

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

I don’t think that the game is dead at all but I do think that it is slowing down.

Themepark MMO’s need stuff for people to do, but with the slow trickle of new content, people are migrating to other things while waiting for new stuff to come out.

The game needs an injection of content and raids are not the answer I am afraid from a PVE standpoint.

PVP and WvW are pretty much slowing down and dying but not dead. I have no idea how they can make these game modes fresh again but I know that there are tons of people clamoring to see this happen

Tbh for PvP I think this needs to happen:

1-Bring in Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch finally. You want to attract Pvers as well as new plyers who play just for PvP. Well as a Pver I can say when I want to PvP I want to do just that. PvP people, not stand in circles and deal with all the crap which that brings. Get rid of the circles and open the PvP experience up. You wont see every “insert class here” spamming the same skills on those circles all day long. You will not have the “fight on point” yelling all the time either.

Breaking off from group fights and going 1 vs 1 might actually happen more and be a good thing. You will have people move around the maps more and not be focused so much on those 3 points. How can they have people move around tho and not just meet in the middle and stay there until the winners are decided? Well they could do random spawns all over the map. You may spawn and have an enemy near you and the same may be for your team mates. You may win your fight and then a team mate may yell “I can’t handle this guy come to my aid”. Something like that could work.

2 – Now another thing too is the silly nonsense of the “seasons”. Again I say you want to attract both Pvers and new dedicated PvP players. The one thing that turns me off about PvP is that when it is off season you earn less rewards there so you are not as motivated to go there. Now on the flipside of that when it is on season you earn more rewards there so you go. The problem here is you can easily burn yourself out and then just give up and then have to wait all over again until the next season.

Fix this anet! Either remove the season nonsense or have the rewards be worth it be it on/off season or not. You want more players there ALL of the time. This would be healthy for both the Pvers who dabble and the “pure Pvers”.

As for WvW I really don’t know what has changed here. Rewards maybe? I have being playing a bit more there recently and I think I get slightly less rewards now from the level up chests than I used to. Is this because of the new reward tracks? Is this what the issue with WvW is for most people? Or is it because that 1 Desert map is still there? Or even the fact you need to scribe things (which can be costly!) to get to see/play with some of the more cool things? Or is it all the condi spam/nonsense?

I really don’t know of a fix for WvW until I know exactly what people’s issues are with it and how it has changed since the “good old days”.

So we are cowboys now?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Paulytnz.7619

I would gladly pay a subscription to be honest if it meant real regular content, bug fixes, attention to all modes of the game such as WvW, PvP, (not just some PvE and Raids their current pet) etc. The other reason I object to silly things like cowboy outfits is it destroys any illusion of immersion that there is left. The game isn’t the wild west, but each to their own I suppose. Anyhoo… I guess its all just wishful thinking.

In reply to what I have put in bold:

How about the immersion for those who play Thief Pistol/Pistol or Engi Shotgun (aka as rifle). Yeah sure this update does break immersion, I guess you have never played these classes or seen anyone play with these builds.

I have not seen these outfits in game yet but I can already see I wont be happy about them after seeing the “bald” statements from some people. Now to THAT I can say when will Anet learn or just try a little harder?

Chars being bald that are not usually bald is what breaks immersion for me….

I agree, the engi and theif would make sense, it may not be steam punk but it is close, he has a point though but at the same time this is not really meant to be an immersive mmorpg, it is meant to not suck you in so much where it is hard to log out, its not like your seeing first person immersion in this game. What I do not understand is your picking on this while you have people shooting rainbows and gliding on 3d blocks.

I do not know about you but it really throws me off when I see adventure box stuff, but it is really cool and unique so I do not complain about it either.

Tbh I think I can count on 1 finger how many times I have actually seen people in this game with that unicorn/rainbow/whatever shooting bow. And yes I have been here since the start and have some 7k logged in hours I think (and not even 10 mins of those hours have been afk in towns or any such nonsense). And even then I am not sure it would break immersion for me as I know it’s part of the game.

The same can be said about stuff from the Adventure box. I don’t think any think of it when I see people with that stuff because I know it’s part of the game and they earned it in the game. Sure it was from a minigame that was a parody of games from the 80’s/90’s Era. But again I say, it does nothing to break it for me since I have played that content and know where those items come from.

The op is basically saying these outfits would suit no classes and as such would break immersion for him/her. Well as I have said this is not true as there are at least 2 classes these outfits would work perfectly for. If he/she was not aware of these classes will maybe now they are and who knows maybe in the future he/she might even have 1 of these classes themself and think about buying this outfit! O.O

I will make it simple for people:

Dead game – Servers shut down.
Dying game – Devs announce the servers are shutting down on XX Date.

Now let’s look at GW1 even – do any of these 2 things apply? No, so as you can see even that game is still alive…

I just don’t get some people lol.

My guess would be because Runes/Sigils are crafting items as well…..

Either they are, or they’re not.
If they’re not, they have no business in my crafting bags
If they are, then they have no business in my inventory after I click “deposit all crafting materials”

They are. There are many, many, many crafting mats that have no dedicated slots in the auto deposit slots sadly.

Archranis, welcome to the confusing world of GW2 that lacks any tutorial and isn’t self-explanatory. Good thing there are veterans you can ask.

For instance, it took me a while to understand that all effects applied to allies do affect the user as well.

Not all but most. Engi elixir gun skill 3 which cleanses condi’s off allies does not work for the user which should be a crime!

But you are correct, it takes time to figure things out here unless asking lol or using the wiki and let’s face it, even the wiki can be confusing at times.

GW1 combat

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

I couldn’t get into GW1 and the combat was boring. GW2 is better in every way.

i think it depends on the game mode gw2 did raids good but for pvp it will never be as good as gw1 it seems

maybe if they boost the mob ability in world mobs gw2 combat will look more fun also
at the moment i wonder why the normal mobs even exists

To slow you down and annoy us of course.

What I miss seeing here (that was in GW1) was when you saw an enemy, any enemy you knew you had to be ready for it and there was a real threat from it. You could wipe them out and move forward knowing that it is indeed gone forever and will not respawn (well by forever I mean as long as you are in that map instance of course lol). That was it, threat contained, I say again THREAT.

Here its, sigh more trash mobs to take up precious seconds of my time and worst of all slow my movement speed down. That’s it, no real threat usually.

So yes, this part of the game I can understand where you are coming from.
I do still like the mobility and semi action of GW2 tho. If they had done more of a mix, get rid of cooldowns and have the old energy reserve where you had to make the RIGHT choices instead of just spamming when cooldown comes along. Maybe the game would have been far better?

I think they also made a mistake merging conditions and hexes. Part of the challenge in GW1 was the build setup and about choosing the right things to defend against. Should I go hex removals or condi? Should I try both and have less attack options? Here it’s – how many condi clears/stun breaks can I take and am I sure I can’t squeeze in another!?

Yet they are slowly improving on this now as you do have to also consider skills to wipe break bars and such. Hopefully they can include more things like this and come up with other/better ways to deal with all the condi spam from both other players and mobs.

PS – I agree with the PvP being better in GW1. Their first priority right now for PvP should be to remove the PVE elements. Bring back death and team deathmatch! As a pver when I pvp I want to PVP and fight other players, not do pve garbage like stand in circles. Address this Anet, this should be your no. 1 priority for pvp even BEFORE balance.

Take care of the modes first and balance will go a lot smoother. Just imagine right now everyone builds with those circles in mind right? Think Dragon Hunters and traps, think Necro’s and Aoe Condi spam etc etc. Remove the circles, and you open up a LOT more options/skills which should help with balance issues.

There, rant over lol.

Suggestion: Walk in wardrobe

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

I had planned in the future to make new alts just for something similar to this. Basically for example one to hold ALL Light armour skins so I can preview them any time and see how they are.

Of course I had planned this for each weight class and on Humans as they seem to be the best judged from my opinion so the other race sets would be out the window. I had also planned to do the same for every weapon class so that’s a lot of extra chars!

Something like this suggestion could save me from all that work and cost lol.

Oh one thing I would like to add is for this wardrobe option to also let you dye the gear. As that was the main reason for my plan. Sure I could just preview any sets atm but I can’t dye them in those previews. So sometimes you may think a set is ugly but if you get a chance to play around with dyes you can easily change your mind once you find something that works.

Tyria map rewards

PS why do you need to bother with Tyria map rewards for your legendary? As far as I know, you can obtain everything except bandit crests & geodes from other sources (which is how I do it — farming makes me fall asleep).

They are a bit nicer if you want to focus on a specific t6.

I can focus all I want on the TP instead. I’d much rather play the game for fun and divest myself of the stuff I don’t need, use the resulting coin to pay for the things I want.

Mind you, I frequently can’t afford those things, so it can take a while to save up.

You say you play what’s fun for you right? Well for some people going back to old maps they may have not played on for a year or more and re-experiencing it all again may just be fun for them.

In fact there may even be content there they have not seen before. Events perhaps if they rushed through the maps early on to see the end of the PS or get their world completes over and done with.

Sure it may not be the best way to get things but hey it’s certainly not the worst either. Actually I might question if it would be slower or quicker than your method if you are not doing the most efficient/best gold making method. Especially considering you said yourself it can take a while to save up playing the way you play.

Jumping Puzzles Suck in GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

Its all a matter of guess work on what you should try and try and try again. There is no consistency in the height or distance your character can travel. So we never really get to know the limitations to our character. To be able to establish with confidence “I can jump this distance or i can jump this height”. ..You can find yourself jumping to a height destination never possible before and fail at a height destination previously accomplished numerous times in the past.

It not height/length issue, but a severe issue with textures in this game. I can’t count the numerous times I cursed the devs because I couldn’t walk over a flat bump, slipped off a ledge because the texture displayed didn’t equal the walk-able space, and so on.

Add the fact that the self-readjusting camera angle and zoom is making you feel nauseous, and you have the perfect recipe for frustration. I always enter a new JP with enthusiasm (because, basically, I do like JPs) only to be reminded of the cruelty of the design flaws.

I understand what you are saying about the walking surface of some areas in JPs. The Spiral one in the Sylvari starter map comes to mind when I was doing that my first few times. It got so bad I ended up NOT walking at any part and just jumped the entire way.

Heck even regular areas in the game that have nothing to do with JPS can be like this. Drytop has a good example with that vine bridge when you first approach it. Again here I suggest just jumping the entire length of it instead of walking. Another nasty area where you can see this is in the Bloodstone Fen map. The very bottom layer of the map where you have to go for the LS is very bad here. You pretty much can’t even walk/run it as the ground is so uneven. You have to jump along or glide, very lazy design tbh.

In fact your reply here reminded me I felt like ranting one day about this very issue. I was going to compare the walk-able surfaces to those in GW1. They are FAR FAR better there. But then again I guess we could not jump so the devs had to put in a lot more work to make sure there were no issues. Perhaps they just got (dare I say the nasty “L” word here?) lazy for gw2? Or perhaps they think the walking surface in the game should also be semi challenging because we do have the jump ability?

Either/or I don’t like it very much.

For people who have issues with this, especially in JPS I suggest practicing your jump any and every chance you get. Especially when not even doing jps or even thinking about them. Stop running/walking everywhere in game. Make it a habit to jump everywhere or if you see something like a fence or low wall make it a habit to jump along it as you go on your way. Try and stay on it without falling off. Believe it or not silly little things like this can actually help you get better at the jumping mechanic in the game and will help somewhat when you actually do jps.

Tutorial really requires this...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

I would say the camera turning speed would be a more important thing that should be explained in the starting instant than the action cam. Yet when a new player comes to this game it’s not there.

The good thing is people used to playing other mmos or similar design games – they know to look for it and find it easy enough. Having said that, anyone used to an action camera sort of game should have no problems doing the same.

With regards to actual new people to this genre or play style of the game, I would say it would be too much for them at the time. The starting instant is more of a story/char set up anyway than an actual tutorial. They should be focusing on the story and the very basics of the game which I think is done well enough.

However I would not be against an implementation of an optional advanced tutorial of a sort where players could play it in their own time when they felt ready for it. Such a tutorial then should feature the action cam info yes.

However if that’s something Anet would consider worthy of their resources right now, or ever, I would say I wouldn’t be too hopeful on that sadly.

Yet there was a call a year ago or so on these very forums for volunteers to help anet test some new “player experience thing” or something, I wonder whatever happened to that or if it’s still in the works…

Show support for anet

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Paulytnz.7619

I might consider supporting Anet with real money again if they come good and give me something for my extra Copper Salvage kit which is entirely useless now.

I was perfectly fine giving them money for extra things like costumes/outfits/unlimited tools just for the extra skins (I have 3 sets now)/etc.

But once they burned me on that second salvage kit I stopped and will not spend another dime until they come good on that.

As for the OP, I don’t think ANY company should have players throwing money at them unless they are providing something of value for that money or the game is in such an outstanding situation at the time it would be considered a crime not to throw money at them. Right now on the second front I don’t think this is the case.

In fact I might say Anet are lucky they may be getting sales on the gem store for keys and cosmetic stuff as well. Having said that the Gemstore is a “bonus” for them anyway. Initial sales and expansions (both past and going forward) really are and should be all that they need.

So thank you OP for the effort, but fool me once, can’t fool me a second time and all that. :P

cough Oh and yeah and that magic word “integrity” (points back up to situation with regards to second salvage kit).

Could we get a new trait and skill overhaul?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Elite in this case isn’t supposed to mean better or superior. Elite just means the specialization does more than a base one does. Elite ones change the profession mechanic, bring new skills, new weapon type.

Which is exactly the problem to a lot of people, they consider that the Elites specs currently ARE superior. Which I am gathering is the reason this post was made, so all your reply does really is support this thread, in a kind of round about way lol.

For a lot of classes they are because they did not take any thing away from the core class they only added more effects. They need to re-look at the core classes by making the core class line its own elite spec or simply take away something for the current elites spec that only the core class can use.

The problem there is they can’t make the core lines their own Elites because then we would be stuck with just one trait line…..

Remember we can only ever have 1 Elite active in our builds at a time. Unless they removed that rule they really can’t make cores their own elites.

I understand what your saying its just as things stand there a lot of classes with out a core. Ele mez thf eng ranger gurd (i guess you could kind of say its a core but the f1-3 are soo much weaker i am not sure if you could say that) war (to a point i realty do not know the class) rev (do not know the class) realty any class that do not have a major changes to there f1-f6 skills with out losing something. Necro elite spec reaper may be stronger but its a big changes on the f1 effect so there is a real necro core class and reaper is different from that necro core class.

These classes i named are worst off for not paying for HoT at all points of the game you simply cant play them with out the stronger version of there elite specs.

What anet realty should of done was have the elite spec lose a = type of wepon (1h main wepon add you lose a 1h wepon) and lost a utility line. But that now how it worked out so they need to add something to these core classes (realty all of them) to make them uniquest from there elite spec part.

I main Engi and I can tell you that I don’t use the Engi Elite. If I do I lose mobility or survivibility (jeez is this even a word? auto-correct seems to think not!) for just a tad bit more damage or stealth. Not worth it in most cases for me.

Warrior again I don’t use the Elite, I like to use rifle on my Warrior and I think if I used the Elite I sacrificed 100% crits with it or something. Didn’t really look into it that much but I just preferred the non Elite Fury for Rifle I guess.

I guess there are small reasons like these and different ones for different people which cause them not to use the Elites. Actually I do have all classes and let me think off the top of my head for the ones that I DO use the Elite for:

Ranger – I think, but only for the Movement buff so I can clear up 1 utility slot from the old Signet I used to use. Don’t use the staff.

Guardian – Mainly just for the long range option. However I have been thinking of switching it back out.

Thief – I think maybe for the extra Dodge, not sure off the top of my head maybe that’s for in PvP only.

Mes – Yes I def do here for the movement buff, this is pretty much needed!

Necro – Only for the Greatsword for a decent melee/cleave option but I guess I could do without I guess.

Rev – Perma Swiftness, HP regen and Fury or Might who wouldn’t!?

So I guess that’s 6 of the 9 classes I do use them. But these are mainly for PvE. I think a few of them I go without for in PvP and even for PVE I could certainly play without a couple of them.

But I do get what you are saying, they just need to expand on it a little more. Buff some Cores up a bit and maybe spread some of the Elites powers out between them. A good example could be Mes Speed buff. Give another option here to a core line and that could be a step in the right direction.

Actually tbh I think the best start forward for any balancing is to look at PvP in general, that is the main mode – conquest.

I think that is the BIGGEST problem right there. You have points (specific areas – small circles) that people have to fight over. This if you ask me brings in the cancer of the “meta’s”.

Just imagine if instead we had other options such as straight up death match or team death matches. You wouldn’t have to focus on small circles, you wouldn’t have the “fight on point!” issues. You would be ALLOWED to have the fight move away from any specific area and have those fights spill over to anywhere.

More build diversity could open up in my mind, just look at the issues which cause the current problems.

Not only that but I think the biggest problem PvP has for attracting PVERS to PvP is the PVE elements! Think about it, if I am a PVER and I want a break from PvE and just want to fight people in PvP I don’t want to stand in circles, that’s what I do in PVE!

Just give me what I want – straight up fighting people and countering what they throw at me….

I dunno maybe I should take this into another thread, sorry if I went off topic.

And who knows by the time the next expansion comes around you may be ready for HOT and you will get it for free if you buy the next expansion.

However sadly no one at this point in time even knows when the next expansion will hit. But it is something to think about. No real rush for HOT yet is all I am saying. Anet have already said when new expansions come out, any before it will also come free with it so this is why I am pointing this out to you for another option.

Wish things were less expensive in GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

Let’s be honest, Gw2 totally takes the grind for gear and turns it into a grind for cosmetic. Good or Bad it’s the only reward we got. In my opinion, it is bad. Economics in this game so important I betcha a typical player would never get anything done in the game without the market. Bad design that could be fixed if unique skins had separate unique ways of earning them and had achievement titles mixed with them. How cool would it be to earn the sword Infinite light through a collection and add it permanently to your celestial or hellfire armor sets to pull and be put on any skin you want from achievements! I think it’s dumb some credit card pro swiper could come out more glossy and shiny than a 5yr veteran who spends 90% of their time in the game with their friends.

Vet here since 3 day early release and I have to seriously counter what you have said here.

Early on in the game I would spend real money to buy things that I felt I needed/wanted. Such as extra char slots, max out all bag slots for those chars, endless tools, and maybe the odd skin here and there. At the time I had no issues spending that cash as I thought/felt that I was supporting the game as well as giving me some nice convenient items to help me play the game.

Fast forward to today and I don’t need to spend any REAL money in game any more. No I don’t farm in any traditional way. Heck I don’t even play much anymore. It’s just fact that when I do play I make gold without trying. So if I see something new I like I can usually transfer gold for the gems I need. Actually I am somewhat smarter than that now. I save my gold and when I reach a certain amount I check the gold to gem rate, if it is lower than 100 gold for 400 gems I will make the trade and save them for when I need them. I have also got a fair few from Achievement chests too.

My point is, real vet’s get to the point you don’t need anything from the gem store anymore or if a glossy new skin that is worth it does come along you can usually cover that with what you have. I am sure there are many players like me.

So to counter your argument this game is “grind for cosmetic”. I would say only if you make it so. That or you don’t play a heck of a lot or as much as you may think you do. That or you may waste your time standing around chatting (in a city) or doing things that are not productive at all in anyway shape or form. Again I say that I don’t FARM to make money so no I am not saying you should be either. There are many variables to this game however with how one can spend their time (possibly waste it) ,but there are also plenty of ways to make cash while having fun as well. So who knows how you play differently to me or others…

Okay back on point now, this game needs players that buy gems with real money. Vets need these players to keep the game running if we do stop purchasing things with real money ourselves. I don’t know why you have issue with players who spend real money for skins. It is far better than anything similar to “pay to win” or a subscription model.

Suggestion: independent helmets on outfits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I agree, there should be something added to give us this option. Even if it takes anet some extra time/work to put the effort in. A possible fix could be an extra head slot for Head gear for if/when we are using outfits or some such.

I think it would be worth the time/effort on anet’s part even if it did delay the next costume a little while. Which I doubt it would as it would probably be different people working on the style creation compared to the char equipment page/wardrobe etc.

Benefits:

1 – Happier people who buy costumes.
2 – More incentive for people to buy costumes.
3 – Both above reasons could increase gem purchases for anet.

PS if this happened I would buy the Noble’s outfit and Top Hat as soon as possible, that’s 2 sales right there from me lol.

Oh yeah and it means my Engi would finally be able to use his Gas Mask. Right now there is next to nothing to use with it for that Juggernaut look. But Gas Mask/Iron clad outfit would work perfectly!

I am sure there are many other combos that would work too. Pirate patch etc come to mind….
