PvP used to be 8 vs 8 if I remember correctly and it just didn’t work too well so they dropped it to 5 vs 5.

The maps are just not big enough.

Maybe if they gave us bigger maps, with random spawns and other modes (deathmatch for example – hint, hint) then yes maybe, just maybe…..

Why The Cooldown Of Weapon Swap Is So Long?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

AFAIK engie weapon skills are weaker than “normal” weapon skills, to compensate for the insta-change kit function, or I’m wrong?

Nope not in my exp. In fact using the weps on their own can be a detriment. Example if I have my Flamethrower equiped I get perma stability (pretty much), constant 6 might and with any kit HP regen (different to the boon and works alongside it for total 2 Hp regens at the same time, 3 if I eat mango pies :P).

Dropping down to my rifle (or pistol/Hammer) I lose all that and it is far less damage in the long run. In fact the only time I unequip my flamethrower or elixir gun for that matter is when I need to break a bar (or change to long range as in my example above for fleeing enemy’s or needed longrange attacks again). Flamethrower 3 + Rifle 4 is great for breaking bars. But you can be sure I instantly change back to my kit to get my might/stability stacks back up again.

Playing engi kit build I see no great advantage for me over other players (or mobs for that matter) by being able to change my kits (weps) with ZERO (well there is technically a split second cooldown) cooldown. But I do see a better flow to combat and less grief.

I can’t really see it being too much of a thing if they gave it to all classes. Sure there would probably need some things looked at and adjusted. But in the long run I think it could add a lot to the game. Just remember there ARE all those individual skill cooldowns anyway (well besides thief).

Edit: I guess the trade off for Engi’s tho is for this zero “weapons swap” ability we do lose other utilities by using kits but then again there is the toolbelt, not sure if that compares….

Why The Cooldown Of Weapon Swap Is So Long?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

This is one of the main reasons I love Engi so much tbh. Using kits I have the luxary of NO cooldowns between swaps and it’s awesome!

But I do have all classes and I can tell you when I am playing any of them besides the Engi the system just feels so punishing and I too ask why? Why is it so long or even a thing at all?

Tbh I wish that they would remove it it entirely. Some of you have asked what is the point of being able to swap instantly if your skills are on cooldown anyway? Well the simple answer to that is the auto attack skill 1. I have found myself many times (especially in pvp or wvw) needing to swap back quickly between long range and short range as the combat changes and needs change with that.

Example I may be having a range war with someone and he may see that I am winning that so he may charge in for the melee. So of course I swap to melee too. Either he or I don’t like the out come of melee so one of us runs. No biggy you think just change back to range and finish the fight! Wait what’s this, I can’t and I have to wait because of some pointless timer? Oh noes this is a design flaw and VERY annoying!

This turns this fight in to a contest then of who can run the fastest and more than likely ends it with no one dying. Is this not similar to what we saw with the “bunker” builds in Pvp and the “esport” situation where people found the fights boring because fights took too long or no one died? So what did they do? They addressed it and pretty much killed off tanky builds because “esports”. I could see the same thing happening here if enough people spoke up about it and a real discussion was had with both pros and cons for removing or lowering the cooldown on weaponswaps.

Tbh I think it’s all to do with certain traits or runes/sigils (perhaps even food as well) that may add boons on weapon swap, I am sure there are some out there that have no cooldowns at all. Could you imagine if one was say Might? Boom instant 25 Might just from standing still and spamming weapon swap.

If this is the case I am sure Anet really would not want to go through and change all of these traits/runes/sigils (possibly food as well) and give them all individual cooldowns. As much as I would want them to and wish that they would I just can’t see it happening.

Edit: I just looked through all consumables and Sigils and there are zero without their own cooldowns. So perhaps this could be trait related only or some excuse for “class balance” of some kind….

Engineer gripes about the balance patch

in Engineer

Paulytnz.7619

Personally I would have preferred they got rid of bleeds for Skill 3 Rifle and add more Vulnerability to it so it can synergise with 5. Either that or rework 5 altogether so it gives something more worthy. 3 Vuln is nothing. Compare that to Ranger skill 2 (instant 25) and you see a HUGE difference.

Rifle needs a complete rework imo it’s just all over the place now. It’s trying to be damage/control/teeny weeny not even worth it condi and a teeny, weeny, not even worth it support via the Vuln.

I also main Flamethrower as primary source and this Skill 2 change I don’t really like. Cond damage? Well I always did wonder why it didn’t add some at all but a complete change to make it pretty much only Condi damage now was not expected or totally wanted. I too will not change my gear for this. Maybe if the skill 1 chain was shorter would it be worth it…..

Map Completion needs better reward

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

I think this post is more about 100% completion rather than Individual map completes right?

So what this is about really is either:

A – I want something else WITH the Gift of Exploration or

B – I want more uses FOR the Gift of Exploration.

They have already “sort of” covered B being that you can craft a decoration for your guild hall with the Gifts. Albeit this is not so great but it is at least something and could just be a start.

So now what we have to work on here is a suggestion for “A” I guess.

PS just re-read the OP and I have to ask is this about the achievement or the actual completion for each char? Sort of confused…. If it’s about the Achievement well then, this will do NOTHING for all those extra Gifts or running alt chars through anyway….

ENGI

Very diverse and fun to play overall and love the mechanic it has compared to all the other classes.
IT HAS FREAKING RIFLE!
so many kits to choose from.
can be almost anything.
but sadly it has no place in guildwars anywhere except point holder in pvp.

hopefully this patch will give us the buffs we need.

Yeah Engi is awesome but sadly….

Warrior has better rifle skills (with a trait 100% Crit for F1 for something like 8-13k damage).

Thief has better pistol skills (matrix style rapid fire where every hit heals you – come on that should be Engi!)

But still, awesomeness no matter what!

Thief Pistol: Body Shot. The wasted space causes me emotional trauma. I never use it and in situations where you’d actually think it could have use it really doesn’t. Does no damage, very short duration and vulnerable condi doesn’t really give us much team support when its such an easy condi for other classes to stack while actually doing something useful. It’s just a waste of ini and skill slot.

I always wished it was some type of decent damage AoE to make P/P less dependent on Staff/Shortbow to hit more than one enemy since they removed my beloved Ricochet. It’d also be nice if it had a finisher of some sort to make more use of P/P black powder.

It’s not completely useless if you need to keep something away from you perm, a good example could be say those exploding Zombies.

Engi med kit, nuff said, nothing can be worse than that. It replaces ALL of your weapon skills and NOT one of them does any damage. They are useless for any healing and on top of that the skill one has to be spammed since it has to target a friendly (actually more correctly you can’t even target you just have to aim it thus no auto).

Changes to Ascended Vending

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

Why the hell isnt there a reward system for ascended in WvW. Its the only game mode I play. Not like pvp players need ascended.

Lets just say that you may want to reconsider what you actually want to say. Because ascended is basically ONLY needed in fractals where agony starts to hit (aka for AR infusions). Anything else is nothing more then skill cap. Sure, it does have higher stats and there for makes the content easier. But not a requirement.

True however….

Ascended can be used by more than one char. You have 6 chars and 3 of them are use light armour? No problem, make just ONE armour set and all three can now use as needed. What’s that you might want to mix up your game and try dif stats? NP, no need to make multiple armour sets for EACH and EVERY char. Simply just make 2 more sets and they can ALL use them.

So we see there are more uses for Ascended than the AR.

Would you rather make for example:

A Zerk Light armour set
A Condi Light armour set and
A Tanky/Toughness/Survival set (because hey you just never know)

That is 3 sets total or…….

3 sets for EACH of your light armour chars?

I know which I would go with. Then of course you can apply that to the medium and heavy armour classes as well. Also Exotics are not exactly cheap atm on the TP, well not zerk at least anyway.

I think the problem is that the scale up range of the event is too large. Thus people waiting in the town above for other events or just afking or whatever else are helping to scale the event up but not actually helping.

So I think they need to scale down the “scale up” range or seriously lower the HP value of the mobs. Even in zerk gear it takes too many ppl needed to wipe just 1.

Can we please have a right click option on Accessories and Rings to equip them to the SECOND Accessory and Ring slots?

Such a feature is there for weapons and their offhand option. It is annoying equipping second rings and accessories as left clicking on them will ALWAYS simply replace the first. Dragging them to the second slots also can cause a headache and again will sometimes only just swap it with the first.

All of this just makes it super annoying to change between sets for various uses/game modes in the game.

In advance, thanks!

To both Rauderi.8706 and Zavve.8205:

Look at it this way. Newer players would get the advantage of unlocking more than 1 mini with each gift/char. Those of us who have more chars from launch miss out on this. Would you think that is fair? It would also seem like a dis-service to those of us who not only have extra chars but who bought and paid for them at launch.

I really can not see how you guys cannot see how people would complain over this if they missed out. So I guess your logic is “if you waste bank space by actually keeping these things and NOT deleting them, then and only then are you also entitled to such a feature”.

Again, not very fair and smells of non integrity practices to me and I am sure others.

This same kind of discussion was had about Shared Inv slots every time they were suggested. And a lot of the time we had people saying the same as you two are now. Yet, guess what? Anet DID refund to some people who had multiples of tools/etc.

Does the glider not automatically open if you hold down spacebar (or your jump key, whichever that is) on a high ping? Or open late? That could be annoying.

Strangely I’ve never seen anyone actually push to clear the centaurs out (though they are awfully high-level). But it is definitely manageable to just run past them on certain builds – I can vouch for heal-spec druid as well, you might want stun breaks in case of accidents with the stampeders but most of the time you can just keep out of their way.

I have gone up to the POI on 6 of my chars so far the back way with little problems. Only two of them had any sort of toughness gear. So tbh I think it’s a little of knowing the map and using your class to the best of their ability to get through the handful of mobs at that last point between the back way and the poi.

If people still have trouble going in solo you should only need at least a few people or a party I would think to brute force your way through them.

Your opinion on GW2 after HoT (2017)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

I’m liking the game more and more with each new part of the LS they are adding now. Mainly because they are finally filling the map in more. When you open your map and see great big blobs of the map grayed out or whatever else you want to call it it’s just depressing for me when I am an explorer at heart.

Story is finally getting back to it’s roots and dealing with the dragons and not this other garbage that the Scarlett distraction brought. But yet at the same time they are also pointing back to GW1 here and there which is also nice. So too are they adding to some of our personal stories by going the Caudecus route. So all in all I think they are going in the right direction story wise as well.

As for PvP/WvW. I think we may soon see more improvements for PvP since they have already started in that direction. So that player base could pick back up again. As for WvW maybe a lot of people just get bored with it. It is after all the same thing over and over pretty much. Also people may feel a little bit disconnected from it now that your side is not just YOUR server anymore but a mix of 3. I have hope that WvW will bounce back.

I think the game is in a good state atm. I’m not taking into account any quarterlies, if they are getting more/less cash per month etc. There are many variables as to why those could be up/down. I am just going by how the game is atm in a playable state. And that to me is that it is still up there and pretty much tops.

Dunno why it’s so hard for some people. I did it without even realizing it was a JP by just exploring. When I grinded out most of the other JP’s I used Youtube to see what was needed, didn’t have any need for this 1.

I too have high pings being I am in NZ and it’s always above 300. Yet I still had no problems doing this on my engi. I’m having more probs atm taking my alts through the map complete. For some reason now it’s a pain in the backside for them to get to the peach tree lol. It doesn’t help that I have “W” set as auto run for me as when you glide that does not change and can really mess things up. Especially when you have to both jump and glide forward speed like on this peach tree climb.

But I agree, it’s about time they fixed more things to be client side rather than server side like they did with the glide deploy.

The deal is that people consider it funnier and more enjoyable if they are doing something optimized. It makes them feel better in general that they are doing something well. This might sound weird at first but, are we not encouraged to do our best at whatever we do?.

That said, this is not a real pressure outside of Fractals/Raids. Marauder, Valkyrie and the like works wonders for survivability as well as damage. You can also wear Celestial to be an all-rounder (change build as you wish without ever worrying about equipment!) and do well at most stuff.

Just remember though, toughness in particular needs a rework. They have severly nerfed it because of a previous PvP bunker meta, and it is basically a junk stat. You need vitality and proper use of protection+vigor much more than you need toughness, as enemies will simply pierce through you in groups. So it might actually be hindering yourself rather than protecting yourself, if you wear toughness equips.

What’s more optimal though, a dungeon run with 3 party wipes or a dungeon run 1 minute slower than the world record?

You’re assuming that dungeon wipes don’t happen if people don’t wear zerker. However if one person doesn’t wear zerker and four do, everything still dies slower and if the zerkers die and that guy is left the only one alive trying to solo a boss it’s not any faster.

There’s no real evidence for what you say, or at least it’s not my experience.

We used to run Lupi in our casual guild, which you’ll find in every path of Arah. Every path. And we’d take 8-10 minutes to kill him, during which sometimes we’d have deaths and sometimes we’d wipe.

Now, everyone is the guild that runs dungeons runs zerker. We kill Lupi in about 2 minutes after the first phase is over or in about 20% of the time we used to take. Fewer people go down because we don’t have to play perfectly for nearly as long.

Saying that you can do a dungeon faster is non-zerk gear is an argument I used to make. I found out from experience, I was wrong.

The corollary to this point being in direct opposition of the usually stated belief of “zerker = more skilled play” haha!

Lol good point, in fact I think it actually requires MORE skill to play in defensive gear and always has! Being that every mob and their grandma will target you. If your reaction time and skill cooldowns are not managed properly it’s game over. Zerkers have always had it easy and just never knew it! :P

5 points for saying that Vayne, many people can never say those dreaded words “I was wrong”, lol true story.

I too for the longest time preached “toughness” here. Heck anyone can go back through my thousands of posts and probably find it if they wanted to. But sadly, the truth is, you kill things slower which actually puts you at more risk from dying. It seems to be getting more so especially in LS and any type of instance. The game to me just seems based around Zerk gear more and more. It’s like anet said “we give up, most of them are gonna use it there’s nothing we can do about it, let’s just do what we can to challenge them while they use it”.

Along came HOT and we saw the effect in those maps. As zerk you are challenged if you are going places solo or not watching yourself. In these maps yes toughness gear can actually be better for you if you solo.

The bad part of all of this is those that are using any sort of toughness gear are the ones punished for it. Because it means it takes them even longer to kill mobs now since they have more hp to combat all the zerk gear and are getting more mechanics to challenge those zerkers. Their conds now do a lot more damage and more often. You really need to kill fast to avoid all those hits/conds/cheat mechanics (new conds that we can’t even remove as an example!).

I am not saying PVT or whatever else has no place because it certainly does. But in general, faster kills is usually the better way to go. And no, not just for faster dungeons or whatever (I don’t do dungeons), just basic surviving even one on one shows this now days. Think about when you are downed, who has the better chance to rally? A zerk doing more damage to kill some mob faster or some guy in toughness? In my exp here, again the zerk wins out. Everything in this game just points towards the zerk (or other fast damage) gear.

I am not saying this is how the game SHOULD be either because in fact I think the game SHOULD promote more use of variety. But the way the game is right now. It is what it is. Again just my opinion and experience.

Should zerk gear be used by casual players?

I would say it depends on the player and what they are doing tbh.

Even in full tanky gear you are not assured to stay alive longer than others. For example if you are the ONLY one in any sort of tanky gear and hit a dungeon or something you might find yourself as the ONLY target by every mob in sight. This could easily wipe you faster than if you were simply in zerk gear (alongside everyone else) and the damage being spread around everyone. Trust me I saw this a lot during my years as the “tanky” guy. I even saw it last night in fact when I ran my Guardian through the new map when I joined the zerg to hit the Centaur POI/chests. Every single sharpshooter was firing at me of course…..

So in my opinion its all about what you are doing, your build, class and skill with said class. Of course there is NO HARM in trying out zerk gear or even tanky for that matter if you are usually zerk and seeing the results. You may just be surprised in fact.

For myself I have all 9 classes and for the first 7 of them I created them all with PVT and stuck with that for about 3 years. Only for my Neco and then Rev did I start them with zerk and I noticed a huge difference in map clear times (solo) as wll as just basically wiping out trash mobs making it faster to go where I wanted to go or to clear hearts quicker etc.

As soon as I saw this I quickly started to convert all of my chars to zerk but I still do keep their old PVT gear on them just incase the situation calls for it. After playing through all 9 classes (and 2 others just for fun!) through their world completes the impression I got was that the game was based around zerk gear. The mobs just seem designed for that build and heck even if you go to any vendor (I mean basic vendors for basic white gear) in the game you will clearly see “zerk” or “power” only gear for sale. Especially when you first start the game on a new char. It’s as if anet are giving you that subtle hint.

I do prefer tanky gear myself, especially on my Engi main, it seems like the Engi was designed to be a tanky class. Especially in WvW and pvp did I prefer it. I say “did” because anet has pretty much killed it for pvp thanks to “esports”. Dreading the day they kill it for WvW. Oops I went off point so as I was saying, I prefer tanky gear on my engi main but for me personally now, the game is just more fun when things die quicker.

Just done it on my 3rd char, things to do:

1 – Avoid circles, more so the thicker/bold yellow ones (they will knock you down and for a long time), the other ones are not as bad.

2 – Kill adds if they are hurting you too much. That being first the sharpshooter and then the Jade.

3 – Break shield as soon as it’s up.

4 – Spam that special move as soon as it pops up. Also do your self a favour and key map it to an easy to reach key. I think a lot of people have problems here because they don’t even do something as simple as this which can make a big difference. I have mine set to “c”.

5 – If at all possible go in with a build that’s designed for damage. Trust me it makes it easier which is usually always the case for story missions sadly.

Example I first did it on my Engi Main and then my Power ranger, both in zerk gear and had no problems. My third time now was my PVT Ele (not replaced his gear to zerk yet) and it wasn’t any tougher for him but of course it just took longer and was a heck of a lot more boring. The jade of course took far too long to kill in this gear.

Oh and lastly guys, don’t go without food, it can be VERY helpful. Use Mango Pies, even in zerk gear it can be very helpful. Extra HP and the HP regen is great if your build has extra healing. It all adds up and keeps you alive for an extra hit or so which can make a big difference.

Good luck!

Just biff them usually. I doubt they will add the “turn in to npc” thing as they wanted to get rid of those types of quests/missions/whatever. It would just be going back to how those “other” games do their quests. Yuck!

The first mistake they made was calling it a “farm”. The second was the whole thing lol. Dedicate a large chunk of a piece of a new map for people to “farm” when we have diminished returns, really? SMH! Doh.

Sure yes there are the chests but still……it just goes against a big part of their philosophy and basic game design. It was never going to end well this one….

Do like I say, add an exchange system into the game and be done with it once and for all.

Then you can start working on things we have been asking for – for YEARS. Hello build templates and such anyone?

I would sell it tbh. With the flax farm it is very easy to get flax especially if you have a few alts you can park there. That gold value of that item is just too good to pass up tbh.

You know I am not sure how this will turn out tbh to deal with the current issues with pricing but I do think that adding drastic things like this to band aid issues is going in the wrong direction.

From what I have seen in the past:

1 – Too much supply of an item – bring in a sink to balance that out some how.
2 – The sinks soon take this to the opposite side of the problem. Now there is too much demand for what is available and the prices sky rocket and surplus is used up.
3 – Create a new farm to address new problem.

It’s just going to be a never ending cycle and still really does not address some of the lower tier versions. They basically have to address EACH and EVERY tier version in their own way to try and balance it out. I think this balancing act is just too much work and will ultimately always fail.

I propose a more simple solution. But before I suggest that let’s ask ourselves what is the desired outcome here? To keep mats at a fair price and having them still seem like a valuable item no matter how low that price gets? Okay so then we have to ask what is a fair price? To me the answer is:

As long as it is the same price as the other mats of the same tier (leather/silk/wood/ores) then that is a fair price. If it is too much higher or lower than these and the stock is out of balance then that is where we have a problem. Now of course it can be argued that Ores/Wood should not factor in there since they are easier to get. I say lets overlook that for the time being and just look at my suggestion:

The idea? It’s simple really, might be so simple that it might actually just work. But oh yes I am sure there will be doubters and naysayers but here goes anyway:

Add an NPC that allows you to trade 1 mat of the same tier for another. So you have far too much Elder wood or Mith Ores? Take to NPC xxx and trade 1 for 1 for what you need. BOOM! Simple.

Now it could be argued that this is what the TP is meant to do but the problem here that fails is the fact that all of these mats are not so easily brought into the game from the player and so there are these imbalances. Lets just have the game CREATE them and provide them and let everyone get on with their game and just gather what they want/like how they like/want and at the same time have ALL of these mats be balanced at the same worth (which should automatically happen in theory – well to me anyway).

Sure it may seem like it will become too easy and that the TP side of this might cause problems but I really don’t know. Would it really cause problems? I think it would be a HUGE gain just in the fact that Anet wont have to be trying to fix it all the time with new sinks/farms. Taking away their time/resources that could be adding new features to the game instead.

So why not give it a shot!? Add it for ALL tiers of these mats and just see how it goes.

Edit: add Foxfire Clusters/Mystic Coins/Silver Doubloons and whatever else needs balancing to their own lists for this to be golden!

I’ve managed map completion and story completion so far and one aspect of this patch really stands out for me. Something I hope gets more attention in future. Buildings you can walk around in! Lake Doric is awesome for building exploration – please keep that up.

Thank you for reminding me of this! I had meant to put it in my post as well. This too is also a very much needed thing in the game world to help make it seem just that little bit more real. Actually I was hoping that parts of Div reach were destroyed (those fake wall/buildings that seem so tiny that we can never reach and enter) just so that they could recreate them more realistically with more explore able buildings lol…

Didn’t happen but I am satisfied enough with what they gave us in the new map at least!

forget the trading post price, is it possible to forge the leather you want with the leather you get? people get so hung up on the trading post…it is possible to grind mats if you really want them.

If you do want to go this way Justine here’s a tip:

On the West side of this map you can find a nice area/event where ghosts feature which are very kind to leave behind incan-dust when they die. I’m pretty sure these are needed in that upgrade process. If not for the leather maybe for more of the tier 6 dust if people are low on that.

Either/or I made a mental note of this spot when I was passing through as I need a ton of this dust atm for guild upgrades.

What makes me happy the most about this update is 2 fold:

1 – You are finally filling in the world map with these new maps and not just over the HOT side. I love it. Also green is always good, keep up with the green!

2 – This map counts as a core map so people who find the core Tyria MP’s lacking may get a few extra needed ones from here. This map also counts as Kryta for dailies so again I think this is great. Keep going in that direction (opening up new maps in the core Tyria areas that we can take advantage of for dailies and such).

Also It’s awesome you are going back and using old areas for new content (Caudicus Manor). As this can refresh our memories of what we did earlier in our games and can even show people things they may have not seen before.

Now as for the last fight, sure the room seemed small. But I have no complaints apart from that. Mind you I main an engi so I have a lot of cc cleanse and mobility etc. But I will complete this on every class in time so will cry here if need be lol. Now I do have to comment on the music for the last fight – LOVED it. Very reminiscent of some of the older FF games. Keep that up!

Yet I guess I shouldn’t complain since we get to activate those turrets lol….

It’s based on the Haka. A traditional Maori warrior dance before a battle.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BI851yJUQQw

That does make it incredibly appropriate for the Charr.

#NornWorstDance2012

Why not? They are a strong/warring race with their war “legions” (tribes) and culture being all about fighting and being strong.

Perfectly suitable I would think. Now if we were speaking about the Norn and their dance………maybe, just maybe you would have a point lol….

Yes, my two statements in the quote are not connected. XD

Charr dance = Appropriate and tangential learning.

Norn dance = Embarrassing and immersion-breaking nod to 1990s television.
I really wish I could change it to some other dance. :\

Oh my bad I read your post wrong and didn’t even see the Norn comment in it!

I bought 10 keys. Got the mini on the 6th. Also got a great jungle wurm finisher.

*shrug

The problem here then becomes that we see people posting:

I got the minipet on my 6th opening. Now I am getting extra copies (since I buy keys a lot) and now I have NO USE for my extra copies since they are ACCOUNT BOUND and I can’t trade them.

So you see, there are 2 negatives to this and not just the 1….

You’re supposed to get a key if you get a duplicate wardrobe item. Contact support if you are sure you didn’t get any.

Oh I see. I don’t buy keys but that was what we would see on the forums in the past. So they have come up with a solution for that finally, then good.
