Wow didn’t realize that. I had planned on saving 10 for a bag slot but was working on the mini first. Didn’t get to cash my cobs in on time for the mini (which I even forget what one it is now) and so I have 10+ cobs sitting in my bank now. Might have to take another look at that. But tbh I think the smart thing for people to do is wait and see what comes this year, as there may be something new to spend those cobs on.
Ummm, sorry but I just have to say that if you think levelling in this game is a grind that I think you are doing it wrong….
If you are trying to level up how you do in most other games by killing mobs for their exp, that is just doing it wrong. You need to explore the maps, complete them or just stick to doing events all over. You can of course level up quicker by crafting etc but that’s not even really needed. Completing just 1 map a day gets you to 80 in a matter of 2 weeks. Well at least it has for me every time I have sent a new alt through world complete…
3 Cobs now, when did this change from 10?
@ Regarding fluff
Regarding how they “had” to make charr the good guys. This is a game “world/setting”, they don’t have to do anything, they could have just said humans invented a macguffin and wiped them out and blew up the macguffin as well. And then no Charrs in GW2 etc.
They had planned more races already back in/before EotN, so they already had a plan with that and wanted it to turn around to what we have now. Pyre (if that was his name) was the fore runner for this, starting to mend the connection between humans and charr.
Yes they could have made up some silly storyline where the Charr just disappeared or were wiped out. But they didn’t, some how I don’t think genocide will ever be accepted by us in this day and age.
Of course they wanted to add more races and playable at that. You could see that easily with the introduction of the Norn and Asura to gw1. Add to that all the voice acting in eye of the North, you could see they wanted to give more character not only to the npcs but races as a whole. It was a sign of good things to come.
Again my opinion is they made them allies to make the dragon presence seem like such a deadly threat that they would have to have even an enemy that was such a bad one be required to be an ally. You see the same thing happen in movie sequels or tv shows some times. The “bad guy” or enemy from an earlier part of the story turns “good” or in the least becomes an ally just because the new threat is so dangerous it threatens all.
Not only that but it also makes it more convenient story wise as they don’t have to go in to too much detail what happened to the charr as a whole. “oh they turned good, ok that’s easy I can accept that”. “wait, what happened to the charr they just disappeared or were killed off? Why did they kill them off, we could have used their help? How did we manage to finally kill them off when we were fighting so long?” Of course many, many, many more questions and lore things would have been raised. It’s just simply easier from a story telling side to say “oh they turned good”. It explains away a lot of possible questions.
Well, again that’s my opinion, feel free to accept it or don’t that’s fine. I still agree however that more groups should exist in GW2 with complementing dynamics to add a more alive world for a sense of more challenge.
I think they had to make the Charr allies with the other races, simply because they were such a threat. They could not let their threat take away just how dangerous of a threat the dragons are. It also adds a great strength to the allied side which makes you think “we may just have a chance”.
Not only that but put it this way, if our world was suddenly attacked by aliens or whatever, something from outside. To the point where we could all be wiped out do you think that all those currently warring with each other would suddenly work together just to be able to survive and have a fighting chance?
Of course they would, unless extreme fanatics which I should imagine would be taken out quickly first by everybody else.
Now that’s not to say that once the big bad threat is gone that the old fighting would not begin again. So who knows, maybe GW3 or 4 may do a complete turn about and have Charr as the enemy again. Perhaps even Sylvari or some other new race.
I’m sorry, but my trust in mankind is so low that I’m pretty sure people would continue to fight between themselves even if Aliens would show up. Probably with some countries\political forces even betraying mankind’s side to get better conditions or even just to crush ther oppositions.
But that’s not even the point of what I said…
My point is that they blamed everything on the Flame Legion, making them responsible for the Cataclysm and misleading the other Charrs into something that was quite legit for them anyway. Then you look at the Sylvari and notice that the Nightmare Court is somewhat similar, they try to corrupt the Pale Tree like the Flame Legion corrupted (And still tries to corrupt.) the Charr Culture with Titans’ influences. Then, similarly again, Norn gets to deal with their Wurm dissidents.
The only race who has an internal opposing faction that feels ‘realistic’ are the Asura, since the Inquest just don’t care about ethics and want to experiment. They’re the only race where conflict is born from a clash of ideologies rather than “we’re good, they’re evil” dualism. Too bad is on the race that visually appeals me the least.
I am sorry if you thought my post was replying to yours – it was not. I only briefly skimmed your post tbh. It was more a reply in general to what everyone said (or more answering what I thought was a “why?” in the OP) as a whole with why I thought they did what they did with the Charr.
I ALWAYS quote people if my post is in reply to theirs. My opinion still stands and we will just have to accept our own theory crafting here.
(edited by Paulytnz.7619)
I agree with number 2. I am doing the Living story 2 on my alts now (8 of them) and am forced to watch the Caithe/Faolin scenes every time. It gets old very fast, there is not even a skip option.

You might want to wait for HOT (if you have purchased it). With one of the mastery tracks there will be new vendors who will be selling old recipes/stuff. You never know that skin you want may just be at one of these vendors.
I’m playing GW1 pretty much every day again working on more titles/HOM points and I am seeing the group action that you describe here.
It truly was/is a good system and can really be a challenge. The way I could see them doing it here is have small groups roam or guard areas together. I would say ideally 3-4 at most would be suitable. ATM you can fight groups with these numbers and even more simply by pulling them to you or running around and hitting a few and then grouping them together for the slaughter. However where it fails here is the group dynamic with various skills. That is what they need to do here, have groups of 3-4 roam/work together with skills that compliment each other. Who knows maybe this is what we will see in HOT.
Edit: heck they could go one step further and even scale up the groups depending on how many people are in the area. We know they have the technology to do so for events so why not mob groups?
You could try Engi or Ranger. I have got both of them to Champion status in PvP so far and am still to do the other clases (working on Ele now). Ranger can be great if you go longbow/Greatsword. I did mine with a PVT build and just Bunkered/supported as best as I could lol. But I have seen some great zerker builds so you could try that. Engi is another that’s good to bunker with. Mind you I did try a new condi build a few days ago which I had limited luck with.
For those of us dealing with ping issues I would suggest trying to go as tanky as you can/bunkerish/survivalist but def look into your build and test things because even going one of those you can still find some nice condi builds that can work for you.
Best of luck!
I shouldn’t think so, Anet would have had absolutely no reason to save those chars. Besides that how would you even reclaim them if so? I never tried those trials but did you have to register an email or anything?
Runescape had emotes you could buy from their store, you could also earn more in game. Not sure I would want them as emotes as what you are describing would be more like a stance or a pose?
I would def be all for “poses”. That being you select your pose and your char stays put in that pose until you move. Pretty much how some tonics work right now. So they could easily sell them in the gem store as new endless tonics.
Right now here in New Zealand our government is laying down fiber everywhere, I have it in my area and do have it myself. That being said it’s not the quality as others have mentioned it’s the distance.
Every Halloween playing that minigame they bring back I always see it, it’s very bad. You hit a skill and if you are the same hp as your oppnt and both fire a skill off at the same time, who do you think is going to walk away the winner? As an engi main I see rubber banding a lot too with enemy npcs if I use the flamethrower skill 3 (knockback) and then try the skill 2 (an explosion) the enemies suddenly appear right in my face and as such my shot fires past them and the explosion totally misses.
It’s the same playing COD on xbox or any other FPS. Actually it’s funny when we hear Americans crying on xbox about hit markers. Because for us EVERY hit is a hit marker. If we do manage to get lucky and get into a hosted Aussie or NZ game when we don’t get hit markers it seems weird and we think there is a glitch or something somewhere lol.
As for if we need servers here or there I’m not too worried myself as I will stay on my server regardless. When I used to play Runescape people asked them for Aussie servers for a while too until they decided to test them. I was actually testing them myself for the makers of that game and they took a lot of our feedback seriously. But the first phase of testing did not go so well as the Aussie hosts were just bad at the time. It wasn’t until 1-2 years later they finally got them up and running at a decent quality. I believe they have maybe 5+ Aussie/NZ servers now. Funny enough however I always found I had the best ping from the UK servers over American, and even in some cases the Aussie/NZ. Not sure why as they are totally the other side of the world, maybe it was just the quality of the hosts.
Do you PVP? because in wow going from 180-200 ping to now 30 ping was game changing…. And wow had global cds and lots of code in place to counter lag…. where guild wars does not.
Yes I do PvP as well as WVW. In PvP I am at a slight disadvantage but I can still do well enough to be at the top of the scoreboard a lot of the time as well as going games without any deaths. I use PVT gear tho just because I am used to it. But it certainly helps with the ping thing as it buys me that extra fraction of a second I may need to see what’s happening and to react to it.
WvW is not such a big issue. But I do command there now and then when no other commanders are tagged up so I have to always be VERY aware of what’s going on and communicate a lot within the map chat as well as open up my map every 30 secs lol…
But again I can do very well there as well.
Oh btw on average I am at about 200-400 ping. Anything under 200 would be a miracle.
Well you can make this game more challenging for you very easily without taking off armour etc. You are level 9, no problem go to a lvl 15 part of the starter map. That still too easy? No problem again go to the next map, the level 15-25 and I assure you that you will start to get 2-3 hit. Not only that but the mobs will start to chase you down from half a map away lol. Has anyone else noticed this before? I tried it one day for a laugh just running though the maps on a low new char and I can tell you, the further in you get the mobs TRULY do chase you from half a map away. It’s like they can smell weakness :P

Meh if anything it is more closer to the Red Cross (just with rounded edges). Ever hear of that organization? I even painted mine red. So if you see me around sporting a red cross don’t cry about it please. :P
I watched that video and I would have to say if that is the full size of the arena I should imagine 15 vs 15 might be a bit rough. 10 vs 10 might be doable and even then only if you have enough things placed in the arena to kite around or to use to block line of sight etc.
Traps could help to slow people down as well so that’s another artificial thing that can be used to make the arena seem larger.
Shame the OP didn’t just whisper the person and ask them. :S
Edit: Btw you should probably edit out that chat message……

TBH she looks like a Norn to me did you check their hair styles?
If you mean the green thing that is the “wreath”, you can find it on the gem store, I bought it for my Guardian a few days ago, it looks nice gold.
If you meant the hair it might be available with a makeover kit only. Sorry I posted late – had the 2 min flood warning thing lol.
You people are all thinking too small. Give me access to ALL AP chests, NAO and all future ones when you add them to the game!
No because Arena net are evil and just want our money
Pretty much this
If Anet were evil they would have been charging us a subs for the last 3 years like some other companies do.
Please, don’t be over dramatic. :P
Yup its the sales. They were down at about 44 gold when the HOT pre-purchase came about. I bought maybe 1k gems because of how low they were. It will die back down again and who knows we may have some new free players buying some gems to help with that.
It also does not have to cost $10 per char slot if you use in game currency. I have done this myself so you could say they are free!
Nothing is free.
Most people forget most people could earn more money out of game than gold in game in a given time. Time equates to potential money earning, so the slots still wouldn’t be free.
Then it would be nice if they had slots on reduced price for a limited time every so often.
If anything is overpriced it’s the bank tabs and bag slots, however these are not necessary if you keep the amount of equipment to a minimum.
Yes but if you are having FUN in game while earning that gold why not just use it if you have nothing else to do with it?
Sure you could work extra hours etc, but really is that as much fun as playing? :P
Yes, thank you VERY much!!!!
It also does not have to cost $10 per char slot if you use in game currency. I have done this myself so you could say they are free!
I don’t know why they exclude them from Map chat but give whispers. Shouldn’t it be the other way around? O.O
I would think if a new player had questions they would be answered in map chat quicker rather than whispering every person they see until they actually find someone that will take the time to answer them.
No, this will be for the good of the game. Go out and help someone new, you never know you just might like it!. :P
After todays announcement and the game now going free this HAS to be looked at more and SERIOUSLY implemented.
Don’t get me wrong I am not against the game going free and I do welcome incoming people to the game. But for the sanity of some of us we NEED these whisper/mail options.
Also, I will be getting the mentor track done first and out of the way when HOT comes and I WILL help players by turning the mentor tag on when I feel in the mood. So if we do have the “whisper ONLY from friends” and such options of course I would unblock for those times. So there is no excuse or reason for these to not be added at all. As there still will be friendly players ready and willing to help. We just need the options to be able to turn it all off when we need to for a break and such is all we are saying here.
I have always just sold any extra minis that I got on the TP. I’m pretty sure they can all be sold there. If you can sell for cash why would you bother to waste on a booster? O.O
Some cannot be sold nor forged, such as Jennah and most of the minis from the BL chests.
I wasn’t even thinking of Jenna since that does not come from the BLTC chests, just add all of her to wardrobe, problem solved. I had 14 of them at 1 point and just threw them in there.
All minis that I have got so far from the BLTC chests have been tradable. If there are indeed some that are not they need to be made so or something like this idea added in the least.

Is it just me or does “daredevil” sound more like it should be a name for an Engi Elite Spec? I don’t know, Daredevil just makes me think of evel Knievel or any other sort of stuntman type of thing. Which to me would fit an Engi perfectly….
Daredevil fits Thief well since Thief is the acrobatic profession. Daredevils are a type of acrobats who do dangerous stunts so it more of a extention for Thief Acrobatics style being a style focus on getting up close and personal despite the dangers this style has. Stuntman also have to be acrobatic sometimes as well to perform the daring stunts they do.
Engineers are not known to be acrobatic enough to perform daring and dangerous stunts and are more about Technology.
If Engineer gets something related to Staff it may fit more for a Technomancer.
“Engineers are not known to be acrobatic enough to perform daring and dangerous stunts”
Yet Engi is the most crazy of all the classes at getting all over the place doing acrobatic style gameplay and risky things.
Rocket Boots.
Rifle Jumpshot.
Elixir Gun skill 4 (makes him jump backwards all crazy like).
“If Engineer gets something related to Staff it may fit more for a Technomancer”
I did not base my remark about Daredevil and Engi based on the staff at all, more just for the “title” or name. I could imagine if Engi ever gained the ability to “merge” with their turrets or do some other crazy/risky type thing that they would be considered that title due to that and the crazy skills they have in game now.
I mean seriously, what’s more risky than using a monkey wrench for a weapon!? A staff? please that would be childs play. :P

Daredevil is an actual word in the dictionary, it means “a reckless person who enjoys doing dangerous things”
This is exactly my point tho….. "a reckless person ". I would not class a thief as reckless, especially how I should imagine the way they will use the staff. I would consider thieves to be cunning, calculated and very precise at what they do. As for the staff I should imagine they will be very dangerous with them, again very skillful, a master one could say more like a Martial Arts type thing. So why not go down that road for a name?
Direct from Wikipedia (yes I know they are not the most reliable but this gives a good basic idea and is close to even what my Oxford Dictionary says):
“A stunt performer, often referred to as a stuntman, or daredevil, is someone who performs dangerous stunts, often as a career”.
So to me a daredevil is less skillful or planning than what I would perceive a thief/assassin to be. More riskful, but they would take calculated risks where as a thief/assassin/martial artist type thing is VERY precise to the point they are not taking a risk, it is just pure skill/talent for them.
As for my engi remark, they are already considered steam punk or tinkerers, thus fitting with a Evel Knievel type daredevil.
But hey that’s just my opinion.
I do wvw and no I don’t get wrecked by the lazy builds. I just think that they are boring as hell and take no skill to play. But hey you sure can tell the people who need crutches.
Why do you care if other people are being less active when playing the game? Some people may have legit reasons for say:
Auto attacking
Using PVT gear
Using stealth
Using Blocks
Insert 99 other things here that the OP seems to be unhappy about “other” players using.
One more thing, anyone who ridicules other people for just using auto attack is not any more skillful than said person. Really, spamming keys as soon as they are off cooldown = skill? I don’t think so, using those skills when the situation calls for it is actually more skillful. Also some auto attacks stack things which is why they are used. Examples, some stack conds (engi pistol) others may heal the player (guardian mace) or add some boon.
If this is not a rant post about dying to other players “cheap” playstyles I really don’t know what it is tbh….
You might want to check your traits (specializations or whatever) just to double check you havn’t got any bonus from them that removes conds.
If you find that’s not the case I’m sure it would probably be helpful here for the Devs if you post some info such as:
Class, race, and what traits you are running.
Is it just me or does “daredevil” sound more like it should be a name for an Engi Elite Spec? I don’t know, Daredevil just makes me think of evel Knievel or any other sort of stuntman type of thing. Which to me would fit an Engi perfectly….
They do talk to us and I am not angry over any of this nonsense. I suggest everyone just wait and see what they announce when they announce it at PAX or whatever it is lol.
A little GW2 quote to hopefully settle everyone down some!:
“relax, you’ll live longer”
Hi folks! We just managed to get our first reproduction in studio for this issue and are investigating. You could help the effort by:
1) Post the type of graphics card you have in this thread (or PM me your info) and
2) File an issue with Customer Support so we can get your DirectX Diagnostic info. Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience!
-Dave
The black screen isnt the real issue, (yes it is but there’s more to it than that). The graphics settings change themselves when you go underwater and refresh themselves. I use subsampling and it changes back to native every time i go under water OR change maps OR see a cutscene. it’s all one problem.
My video card is AMD Radeon HD 6530D. 512mbs. run in 1920×1080. But I use subsample instead of native.
This seems correct. I just tested this. I normally play the game on “auto detect” unless I am in WvW, Dungeons, Drytop or Silverwastes as all of those places get very bad FPS for me. So when I go to these places I play on “Best Performance”.
However because I have been going to Drytop and Silverwastes a lot recently I have just been leaving it on “Best Performance”. But it seems changing maps or indeed going under water will send it straight to “auto detect” quality for me. However the screen only goes black for me when submerging, not when changing maps so I never noticed it for when I was changing maps.
(edited by Paulytnz.7619)
Well mine is very, very, very bad lol. Bought this comp brand new a few years ago just to be able to play Civ 5 and FF14 which I must say I had very little issues playing those games.
But I soon discovered I was given a very crap graphics card when the rest of the computer was pretty good spec wise. So here it is:
NVIDIA GeForce GT220. hangs head in shame lol…
Yup I get this as well and came here to create a thread about it.
It seems to be if you are swapping from land to water weapons which causes this. You get into water and are fine but as soon as you submerge and the game tries to change your weapons to water you get the black screen.
If you are under water and surface and then submerge again you will get hit again. You can get spammed with this if you are constantly pushed to the surface from NPCs (krait is a good example) or players skills.
Very annoying.
I have upgraded to windows 10 but did not have this issue until only a few days ago, have had win10 for over a week now.
I think to answer your question more correctly, think of it this way:
It’s your char’s birthday and not the game’s anniversary. So if your char happens to be turning 1, 2 or 3 years old you can log in anytime to collect the reward.
I can’t believe no one has said Engi here as being up there…
You have a way to get perma swiftness or a 25% perm speed boost. You also get rocket boots with a 20-ish second cooldown, that makes you very mobile! Elixir gun can give you swiftness while in combat VERY often while at the same time making your enemies crippled and if you need a quick escape you can leap backwards with skill 4.
Not sure if the OP was meaning straight up moving around or in combat situations but either way engi is up there….
In my exp Mesmers and Guardians can have it rough.
The patch a couple of days ago (yesterday?) was about 250 MB for me. Maybe your game had a few files missing?
Why are you guys comparing open sandbox games with housing to a game like gw2? It’s not that type of game. Guild halls is pretty and home instance is pretty much all you’re going to get with this type of game.
This is not a sandbox game…..you’re not going to get sandbox features with this game engine.
That’s funny considering I have seen Colin (I’m sure it was him) somewhere before say that they would like to do Player Housing. But when the time was right and when it would be done in a way that would add something very worthwhile to the game. I guess he was wrong…..
The way another MMO (Villagers and heroes or some nonsense) did it was to have an instance that housed about 30-50 houses, thus 50 people. You could see each person’s house and a city type map. You could not enter the houses tho but there was a shared bank/vault in the middle of the town.
Guilds could create their own city and invite people to join them. Basically if you wanted to go to your house (or a friend’s) you would choose the district (server or instance) and load into it. There you could see every house, who owned them and gather mats etc.
I could see possibly something working similar here. There was at one point a way that people managed to get into the home instance on the regular DR map. Here they roleplayed a city. It could work similar to this I should imagine.
I haven’t had a reaction on 2 support tickets which are over 5months old atm.
GG
Strange, like the OP I have been helped by the team a few times and very quickly too. I had the same experience in GW1 as well.
Like I said my newest alt managed to do it fine just a few days ago. Give it another shot.
Yes, I’ll try again tomorrow.
FYI When I was stuck on the airship, nothing was active. Could not interact with the canons at all!
Well I hope it works next time. There is some more bad news for you tho, they removed all the loot drops from mobs and even the chests!
I emphasise that my problem was AFTER the 11 Aug patch that supposedly fixed it. The stage was “Keep watch for Orrian forces as the airship advances”.
Like I said my newest alt managed to do it fine just a few days ago. Give it another shot.
Since the merge, I haven’t read everything here. I just wanted to say 2 things:
1) Thank you for some cool stuff, Anet, and Happy Birthday to GW2!
2) Could you guys PUH-LEEZE stop doing the thing where every b-day gift includes something the same (or very similar) as the previous gifts, but DOES. NOT. STACK!
K. Thanks again!
You could just start using the older stacks. :P This year they had a perfectly good reason tho as they boost you to lvl 30 and not 20. So they are totally different items. They had no excuse last time tho….
