The legs do look strange…….like short dwarf legs but on a giant…..wait is that even possible? O.O
This was addressed in the Guild Chat just recently. Basically if your guild has them unlocked you can still access them in the guild hall place in LA. At this stage tho it’s not clear if the npcs will still be available in the other cities. But either way don’t worry you wont lose access to them.
Edit: You can watch the videos here:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/catch-up-on-guild-week/
I think it was addressed in either the second or third video.
Engie = Flamethrowers = Love.
^^^
Since the first Gw2 Beta I got to try over 3 years ago I knew right away that Engi was my go to class. Played with the flamethrower that day and said to myself “this, this is the one!”
Usually in these types of games I am the mage or Ele so if Engi was not here I would probably have gone to ele. But then again in GW1 my faves were Paragon/Ranger and Ranger is my sec fave here and next would be guardian. So…..
But in the end all that matters is ENGI, now where’s my Tommy Gun!?
I actually like ruuning on four paws more… the two-legged running of the charr looks kind of forced and uncomfortale to me. They feel much less powerful to me when running upright.
I have a funny feeling however this is one of the main reasons why they wont add capes. Just imagine the issues Charr running on all 4s would have with capes. Then again it could kind of give that superman feeling!
Only real purpose I could think this would be for the Ranger’s Heal trap that is a water field? Can’t really see any other reason for this….
Sure Engi’s Mines etc are remote detonate but those make sense and tbh make it a unique thing for that class. I guess adding this to traps of other classes may take some of that away?
If you are not into farming silverwastes (running around completing events and then rush to the chest at the end or whatever – sorry only did this once sort of as I was running an alt through LS2 lol). The best way that comes close to what you are asking for is to just pick a map, and farm events in them. Ideally you want events where many people will show up to scale up the mob numbers. This ties into my next point, go to the map of the day which has you needing to do events for. Make sure to call the events out and many people will show up as they want to get their daily over and done with. Continue even once your daily is done, just be a helpful soul calling out events to others while increasing your loot. :P
Sure there are other ways to make cash and probably far better (dungeons, silverwastes and what not). But to cover what you asked for I gave the above idea.
HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

The game doesnt need new players to bring it to life… its already alive and kicking, just need to keep the content comming..
not hating here, just stating it already does well is all.
There may have been a lot of people playing sure, but you may be over-looking something. That being that just because there are a lot of people playing it does not mean that a lot of them are actually spending real cash any longer. I have not put down much cash myself recently due to the fact I can do so from gold to gems since I have been here from the start and find cash easy enough to make. As time goes on for us long time players I can see this being the same for many people. Yet I did put down a lot of cash the first couple of years for extra char slots, bag slots, etc.
Making the game free to new people has these advantages:
1 – It’s a good incentive to get people to just look at the game where as before they may have not felt inclined to.
2 – Having looked and played these people may then be tempted to buy HOT. That’s more cash to anet and more future content for all of us here.
3 – Said new players that do buy HOT may then go further and buy gems to help continue the survivability of the game.
So basically, increasing the playing population increases the chance that more REAL money will be handed over to Anet not only from the HOT sale but from Gem purchases. I can’t see that being a bad thing, can you?
I am not at all saying Anet have been struggling to make cash, on the contrary I believe they have been doing very well up to this point. But any good business will always look for more ways to increase their cash income.
My Charr is a thief so he can call out 2 more Charr buddies sometimes too. Then again from time to time he goes in to hide mode so he can not be seen. I have no problem playing Charr chars although the running on all 4s can be annoying at first. Easy fix for that tho, strike with your weapon every 10 secs and he will stay upright.
I admit tho, the title to this thread is a bit of a ??? Char cute!? Lol…..
Edit: Oh and the slobbering salvia speech gets annoying also…
I’d just be happy if my female human Necro would say ‘centaur’ correctly. Very disappointed when I found out who the voice actress was as well.
But the question then becomes which is the correct way to say it? Example if you are American it is said “centar”. If you are from pretty much anywhere else in the world you will hear what is in my opinion the correct way to say it “centor”.
See the problem here?
Sounds like a good idea. However I would worry about the cost of them since it would cost a bit to hire all the actors to say everything (all personal story and future LS stuff as well) if this is what you mean.
Having said that, I would be onboard with this. Not to be racist or anything but so would my black skinned afro wearing alt. Seriously hearing his “white” voice all the time just breaks immersion for me…..
Let’s get serious and have a Legendary Vuvuzela! It’s would be the ultimate WvW Taunt. “Someone kill that guy!”
How about some Castanets too? That actually might be exciting if we just had a Dancer classes from Final Fantasy Tactics.
- " Dancer job command. Perform mysterious dances to create unusual effects."
- Last Dance: The ultimate dance. Drops the Charge Time of all enemies to zero.Nah, being more serious I’d really like to see something like a javelin.
Elite skill – forget turning people into moas when this class gets “Dance Party” – all enemies in range dance for 30 secs, and combat does NOT break it!
The fact is that thieves need stealth to stay alive.
You have flooded the game with all kinds of stealth removal in such a blatant and bad way that you might as well get rid of stealth all together. Stealth needs to be reliable. It simply lasts too long and you have given these classes NO other survival method. So you end up with a bunch of cry babies about stealth which you crumble to and bring out the nerf bat.
The approach to balance stealth is way out of balance. Would you put in a remove all armor for 6 seconds skill that only stealth classes could use? Of course not…but yet you have done exactly that.
When Beta becomes non-beta will probably be the start of the end of the game as it was for Shadowbane. Soon as they introduced vampires….bloop bloop bloop…game over.
Here is a challenge to the game developers…ask people if they could choose a non-expansion server would they play on it. I know I would select that server over the bug fest that is approaching.
Do this poll as a sticky and you will be shocked at how many people dread the expansion.
So… you’re saying that stealth is too powerful, but then babies cry… but it shouldn’t be nerfed because thieves aren’t powerful enough? Who are “these classes” when you’ve only mentioned one?
To anyone else who is confused, I’ll explain what is going on. The thief forum is currently the one of the whiniest forums right now. What is going on is everyone is having a gigantic circle pity, where they each compound and reaffirm how bad each other feels until it goes to “END IS NIGH!” levels. Because of this you get a lot of aimless and nonsensical complaints on other forums, many times being factually incorrect or utterly myopic.
So, what is the real problem with the thief currently? Well, this comes from two sources. June 23rds hit thieves hard, due to Anet’s desire to end the dodge spam meta. Several key things were nerfed regarding thieves as a hope to balance out a class that could out-duel any other given perfect play.
#1: Initiative regen was nerfed slightly in many places. These several “slight nerfs” accumulate and make it so all but very specific specs had their functionality cut.
#2: The Acrobatics line was gutted so badly that it is unquestionably the worst line in the game. Again, fear of the perma-dodge meta.
#3: With the removal of damage stats of traits, the normally high offensive thieves are now more in-line with other classes as far as offensive stats go.This has left thief without many options, given that thieves now have only a single viable defensive line: Shadow Arts. This has lead to thieves being more stealth dependent than ever before. With elite specializations comes the Sneak Gyro, a rather sub par skill but nonetheless useful in exactly one way: Detection Pulse renders all stealth tactics useless for a time. While this skill is useless against most classes, mesmers and thieves are hit quite hard by it. Mesmers, have alternative forms of defense and are capable of engaging at range.
Thieves don’t and can’t. Well, to a degree, anyway. They’ve still got blinds, immobilize, and weakness. But the important thing is, reveal tactics make shadow arts, our only viable defensive line, largely ineffective. The Daredevil helps to alleviate this, since it gives a bunch of dodge-based utilities that thieves had in the previous acrobatics line. While an overall boon, this has left thieves salty over the fact that our elite specialization traits are mostly just giving us back what was taken from us on June 23rd.
Overall, the best way to fix stealth dependent thieves is to make them less stealth dependent. Acrobatics needs to be twice as good as it is currently, and with global initiative regen removed a lot of skills need their initiative costs tweaked, and/or additional initiative regen given.
Aha thanks for the unbiased explanation Blood Red. Hopefully Anet can see through all the QQ threads and see the real problems that you mention here and look at dealing with them.
I still want an Arsonist Thief Spec that main-hands Torch.
Heh heh, now that sounds like a lot of fun! Yes it’s about time that we get to be able to main hand a few of the offhand weapons. (Drools) at the thought of Engi main-handing Shield and being called the riot control or some such!.
To op: Thanks for the title change!
In my mind in order for them to add fishing they would have to create areas where fishing can be done where players can not enter the water at all. It would just make no sense at all and would break the immersion of it.
Then they would need to have a purpose for fishing. Sure yes the fish could be used for new recipes or better yet they could go back and change some of the current recipes to also include fish. But apart from that I think it would still be too shallow (pun not intended). Sure add treasure chests or something to the chance of the fished up goods that could be a good addition.
One last thing tho, would fishing be the same as current gathering methods? Meaning would it be as we go along and just happening to see a node to gather from? I don’t really think it could work this way due to the point I made at the top of the my post. So in my mind there would need to be dedicated places for fishing which could then lead this into my next point. Could fishing be part of a new minigame instead? I think this could be the best way to take it. I would love to see ideas for such a thing.
Engi – Tommy Gun. We need to finally have a good burst weapon and I think this would be the perfect way to go. :P
Edit: your title is misleading as you are not asking for “new” weapons at all. You are asking for future Elite specialisations since they would be using “Current” weapons.
(edited by Paulytnz.7619)
Or perhaps you could try non zerk/stealth builds hmmmm?
“It simply lasts too long and you have given these classes NO other survival method”
Better yet ASK for more non stealth worthy builds/mechanics!
(edited by Paulytnz.7619)
You aren’t even playing endgame, you are just playing around.
Perhaps you would care to enlighten the OP as well as the rest of us as to what you consider endgame is?
The Scrapper’s Traits can add some nice bonuses for my current build so I like the traits for the most part. Examples are the +6 (for a total of 12) constant might on my Flamethrower with Juggernaut. I will go through the traits now:
Function Gyro – Nothing really needs to be said about this it’s a good trait and I would say a main draw card for this line. Having said this tho I have not had a chance to use it yet so I am mainly commenting from looking at what’s written down on paper here…. So other peoples (such as Donari’s above) replies are better than mine for this so far.
Shocking Speed – Meh for me and my build, might be fine for others.
Stabilized Core – Not as good as I thought it would be with Juggernaut, it does not seem to give an extra stack of stability at all. Possible bug? If not totally useless for my Juggernaut build.
Recovery Matrix – Pretty good, I like it for a secure way to get some protection. Although when used with Elixir H sure you do get those extra seconds of protection from it but it just seems to take something away from Elixir H. Maybe that’s just me.
Decisive renown – Seems ok I guess. Personally I would have preferred a quicker finisher or res. :P
Rapid Regeneration – Probably good for other builds, not so great for me. I originally thought this might be good with elixir gun (mainly skill 2) but it just seems meh as there are better ways to keep HP up while still doing some great damage.
Expert Examination – no doubt great for certain builds and probably useful in PvP but offers nothing for me or my build in general especially for PvE.
Mass Momentum – Now this right here is a winner for my Juggernaut build. An extra +6 Might for a total of 12 in Juggernaut. The 10% Power from Toughness is an extra win win for those of us in any kind of survival gear (PVT myself) this just adds an extra big win for this trait. Three thumbs up!
Impact Savant – Nothing for me here.
Adaptive Armour – Big win to help counter Cond damage. It says max 5 stacks I never saw anymore than 3, may test this further. Nice Trait.
Edit: it does go to 5, just hard to see due to how slow enemies attack and if you kill too fast. :P
Final Salvo – Nothing for me here but I can see potential for others. Nothing for me mainly because I see little use for Gyros (see below).
Perfectly Weighted – Nice I guess for when using hammer, but where’s the quicker hammer skill recharges? That is usually staple for these kinds of traits. Personally I would be even more impressed if this trait did for hammer what Juggernaut does for Flamethrower – CONSTANT Stability, lol we can dream can’t we?
Now the hammer and gyros:
Hammer – I guess it’s fine the way the skills are but then again I wont bother with it because I just see no real reason to right now. Maybe in PvP but as it stands not for anything else. Honestly why would I? When instead I can use flamethrower for perm stability, regen from backpack generator and all that extra Might? It just seems pointless using anything else. So with that being said, hammer to me may only get use for a bit of fun or variety.
Gyros – I guess on paper these looked good. For me they seem useless, maybe if they had perm duration and not some silly 15 secs max here and there I could see a great use for them. But as it stands now I see far better choices without them sorry. Yes Bulwark Gyro would seem totally OP if it was out perm, but remember they can be destroyed and you could lower the damage reduction by a great deal. Perhaps just have it give a 25% reduction effectively giving it a weaker version of a perm protection? Again probably dreaming but for me, gyros are just wasted utility slots sorry.

You could just turn on the option that displays all other player names all the time. That could help somewhat. I have it turned on and I am pretty sure it always displays the npcs as well if this is what you mean by “allies”.
You want a key ring to hold things other than keys? I don’t get it, there is not too many keys in this game so there is no point. I am guessing you played Runescape or some other game that had a key ring for the many keys that game had?
I don’t know what’ up at your end but I only ever have to enter the code if I reset my router or something. I suspect it’s an issue with your ISP tbh.
Oh I have got a new one.
“It will work because I said so”.
Sounds like the OP is bored with Silverwastes farming and wants to move on when HOT comes and take away from everyone else what he/she had access to?
Sometimes I start to believe that some people lack the patience to learn about the game mechanics, nor even check how the UI works. I see a lot of persons complaining about the grind and inmediately say to myself “renown hearts”.
I mean, you can basically reach lvl 25 starting as a 1 in like 3 hours just by doing so.
I know a lot of people are used to the korean mmo grindfest which is horrible but sometimes I believe the noob handholding guides in most of the games makes the average mmo player kida braindead.
Sorry pal, not saying you are, I’m just generalizing.
What I made bold here was one of the biggest issues with the Queensdale champ trains. New players were starting and asking how to level, guess what the reply always was?
That’s right – “join the champ train”. Many new players didn’t even bother to learn their skills or the maps or even basic gameplay. Perhaps some got bored and quit for a while. Come back and see the champ train in Queensdale is dead and gone and are just totally stuck as to what to do. Thus this OP methinks. :P
Ouch you are doing it all wrong. This is not Wow, or Runescape or any of those other games where you grind on mobs. What you do is actually PLAY the game and have fun.
Options:
1 – Explore all maps available to you to 100%.
2 – Run around doing events.
3 – Go to WvW and run with the zerg.
Don’t bother with crafting, that is for elite people who just have to get to 80 in 1-2 days. Just playing the game normally you can get there in 1-2 weeks depending on how many hours a day you can play.
Good question.
As for now the engi’s medkit skill 1 is actually totally disabled, I guess they are fixing it somehow…..
As for lag, not much can be done about it as there are many variables as to the causes. Could be your comp, could be problems with your Isp or any connections between you and Anet’s servers. Then you add all the other players on top of that as well. So many variables.
I’m pretty sure Leah (and co.) stated the Raid stories were side-stories, and were not required (lore-wise).
This makes me doubt the story of Mordremoth’s death (or however he/it is dealt with) would be found there.
Yeah I am on the same page here. The purpose of the raids is for the hardcore’s to get their challenge. We know that the hardcore’s are a minority here and the uproar would be far worse than the HOT pre-purchase without that extra char slot.
Seems like a few people expect/want Mordy to be dealt with in the Expansion. This is pretty much why I asked as I don’t remember Anet eluding at any way, shape or form to the exact purpose/amount of story that the expansion will indeed bring. Most of the hoopla has been about all of the other features coming with it. So maybe now we can get an inkling of that, please anet? I am not asking for an spoilers, good golly no! Just something. :P
My hopes are that we finish Mordremoth, mostly with HoT.
However, as we don`t know the whole nature of the dragons, several things can play out:
- Dead dragons aren`t dead till the dragons energy finds a new host and the place is filled, so we have to fight enemies till that is done.- We beat the dragon, elect a new dragon, but still have to take care of remnants in the area. Like with Tequatle, some forces just go on rampage and we have to take care of them around the bloodstone for example.
- We dont beat Mordremoth, but get another story explanation why we cant, shifting from purely eldar dragon slaying, to finding a different method. Which means we will suffer another great loss that will change Tyria forever, or we are able to stop Mordremoths advance in some way (either by force or by negotiation)
Interesting thoughts. Negotiating with the dragons, now that could be a game changer. Up to this point we pretty much have thought of them as mindless beings just doing what they like. That or they considered themselves too high up there to even think/care what we do or try to do.
I make a prediction that mordy will be the end boss in last wing of the raids coming with hot.
Since they already said this.*Timeline of the raid story?
After the Heart of Thorns main story, it is the next big challenge in the shadows.*
http://dulfy.net/2015/09/26/gw2-twitchcon-designing-raids-in-heart-of-thorns/
Oh dear, this will not end well. if you are correct there will be a lot of QQ on these forums.
My original thought was that HoT would wrap up Mordremoth, and then once LS picked up again they’d head in another direction. It seems like a perfect method to me. Use Living Story to introduce us to to a dragon or another large threat, and then an expansion to give us a “big finish” to the storyline once you’ve built it up via normal updates.
But with recent comments by Anet about how HoT would be required for future LS chapters, I’m now doubting that theory. If future LS stuff is going to be taking place in the Jungle, then I dunno if Mordy will be finished in HoT or not. What else could take place in the Jungle besides him?
Yeah I was of the same thought as you, 1 dragon per expansion. But it just seems they have been dragging the story out for so long now I just doubt it. Yes sure the whole scarlet thing was testing ground but still, they just seem to keep dragging it on, perhaps to just keep us logging in lol?
TBH I would be happy if they DID take care of 1 dragon per expansion. Let us get through them all, and move on to something better. Really, dragons and zombies are just over done (over kill) in games these days. Everywhere you look it’s zombies and/or dragons. Lets move on already!. :P
As the title says (sorry had to edit title as was too long, it was originally "any idea on the amount of “story” coming with HOT?") – any guess or has Anet made any comments on exactly how much of the story or living story will be part of HOT?
What I mean is, well it be a whole “expansion” worth? By this I mean in GW1 their “expansions” or whatever you prefer to call them were a whole story’s worth but yet I doubt we will be getting that.
Will it be the whole story dealing with Mordremoth or just a bite sized treat until they pick up the LS again? Will it at least be a living story’s season (example 1 or 2) worth? Again I doubt it probably.
I have already bought HOT so this is not why I am asking, just curious is all. Also I am running all my alts through LS 2 now to get them prepared so I am wondering as well how much work I will have to put them all through when HOT does hit lol.
Except, people aren’t stupid. You cannot “soften the blow” and the haters you mentioned are going to leave if something (or enough) of what they don’t like is being introduced.
Now the question is if it is wise to drive away thousands of players who had been around for ages while desperately looking for a way to reinvent the game.
I seriously doubt anyone would quit the game if mounts were introduced…
Honestly that is just silly. If you don’t want mounts it’s simple, don’t buy one.
By the way I am neither for or against mounts. but people talking of quitting over silly things like this is just, well, silly.
Can still get into it on some parts of the Personal Story. Reroll another char and you can see it.
Not all of it.
Wait what? You don’t like being yelled at that you are leaving the instance? Inconceivable! Lol. :P
Edit: it was not made clear by the OP that he/she was aware that you could still get there or not see/explore the whole map. Sooooo with that, my post if anything highlights that things need to be clarified as much as possible so that these kinds of ideas are not swept under the rug or explained away.
I am sure that not even Anet can read people’s minds or see everything they are expected to see by posters.
(edited by Paulytnz.7619)
Can still get into it on some parts of the Personal Story. Reroll another char and you can see it.
This is about the best I could do. Not sure if this is what I saw during beta, it might have been worse but this still looks a little bit strange to me.
I think Aguri is right, it’s probably because the body is so skinny.
Again tho if it’s worse for you than what I have posted here you need to post some screenshots.
Oh you are still dealing with this, crazy. Maybe try and make a new char and take a few screen shots for here. It could help Anet out a bit to see what the issue is.
Actually I might give it another go, pretty sure it was a thief I tried last time.
Could it be that you changed the zoom level on the mini map? Icons appear bigger when you zoom in
Probably this.
Personally I like to zoom all the way in and then pull on the mouse wheel 1 click down. That is usually the easiest zoom mode to see resources on your mini map.
Anets way of saying “now everyone will want to include them!”
so you think people will Want rangers in dungeons / fractals / raids Because they can Heal?
Nope I think Anet think people will want them for raids however. The players will always find a way to do the opposite to what the devs want lol. So there is a good chance people may not even want them in raids. But that’s not to say that anet wont try and push it.
I have a feeling they gave it to Ranger first since a lot of rangers were moaning they were excluded from content (dungeons). Anets way of saying “now everyone will want to include them!”
Like I said, this is just the FIRST class to get such a build/option/spec. The other classes will get it, probably at a rate of 1 class every elite spec set release. So, welcome to the future. :P
Wait one second here, as an Engi I find these complaints about the Druid rather unnecessary. Basically they are getting our med kit skill 1 however it ALSO does damage.
This kit is still totally useless to me. Yes I understand that Druid is more than likely the FIRST class to be given a truly power house of a healing build/option and that others will soon follow. Yet still, as an Engi having 1 kit totally useless is just real annoying. Especially now that another class can not only do the same but far better.
Now having said all that, rangers will get more Elite specs focused on damage, support etc just like everyone else. However for the mean time every ranger should enjoy that they are the FIRST true healer to be added to the game and I suspect will be in great demand upon the raid release.
One last thing I would like to say, I main an engi yes but my second fave class and one I use the next most is my ranger. I still have nothing but love for it. They are brilliant in PvE, WvW not too shabby. I managed to get the champion title for him in PvP. So who here exactly is moaning about the druid class? Is it the dungeon runners or the “serious” top 5% pvpers?
Please more details would be appreciated, I am sure not only by the general public but for anet as well.
Yes it dose create toxicity but usually only when elitism starts to rear it’s ugly head from the non free players….
There are mini dungeons already. I think that is the reason they put them into the game, for what you are asking.
If they did true, legit solo dungeons I would be concerned it would not be rewarding enough. It would be a single player instance, thus there would be no loot drops. You can already see this in effect in the new Arrah story dungeon – no loot drops, it really bites. They even removed all of the chests!
The only trouble with this is any ressing going on is still part of the fight – which means flashy animations like we have on finishers could give either a disadvantage or advantage in the fight, depending on the situation.
For example what would happen with stealth ressing, or maybe hiding behind a wall to res – if the animation shows up it could highlight to enemies that you are ressing someone.
At least with finishers, the enemy is finished so it makes no difference.
Actually you have a good point here. I can think of 2 possible solutions:
1 – Disable them for PVP and WvW.
2 – In PvP and WvW they only show for your team mates and there is also a toggle to turn them off.
I like the idea a lot. I can see the issues in PvP areas so maybe they could be disabled there? Or else someone planning to PvP could toggle to the basic animation for the duration.
One issue would be if you want the rezzer to do something other than crouch and pat the ground. That would likely take a lot more animation work than just adding in some special effects. So the effects would need to be designed around that basic character animation. Also, would they go off during the channel of the rez or only when the person successfully stands up? What happens if you stop rezzing partway through the channel?
I do think only the first one to rez should have their effect showing, though that could lead to a frisson of annoyance if you wanted to show off your effect … I get that little “darn it” jolt every time someone else starts a stomp on a Toxic Alliance a tick before I do.
Thanks for your input. Your ideas here helped me address an earlier comment regarding the PvP and WvW possible issues.
The idea would be that they would show as you are ressing the person. Now there is 2 possible issues here. One would be it would need to be cut short if the res was canceled. The other is if the res was sped up due to more people starting to res or if someone with quickness helped to res, again it would need to be cut short.
I would suggest a simple fade out of the animation here for both cases. It should restart if a new person starts to res with their new animation.
Lol yes I get that same annoying feeling too when I want to show off my finisher animation during the Toxic events. But this is actually a good thing as it gives you more incentive to finish/res people as you will want to show your animation off!
I still think this might be a fun addition to the game. Has nobody got any additional ideas?
All this kitten talk reminds me of that Smurf movie. So which is better, kitten or smurf? :P
And oh why didn’t they use “glarrg” instead.
“Great Glarrg!” (Taimi) “Taimi, manners please” (your PS buddies). Still one of my fave moments in any of the PS or LS thus far.
(edited by Paulytnz.7619)
Oh boy I am having flashbacks to the first couple of weeks of the game when the TP was not accessible. Please no, no, no we really do not need advertisements for trades spammed in map chat again….
What if… Keys were a PvP track reward?
I was thinking that they may have had this in mind thus one of the reasons for nerfing the PS. Time will tell I guess.
I would like them to add a chance from JP chests too that could be a good incentive to get some of us out there and doing jps again. As it is now the rewards from them are garbage, well in my experience. :P
Oh of course they would have to do something about those who have chars “parked” at JP chests, that little “exploit” will need to be fixed as well.
(edited by Paulytnz.7619)
If you want ascended weapons/armour in the future it’s worth it. But for now you can wait and just buy what you need from the TP. Just have fun exploring, doing events and such.
Welcome to the game and happy hunting!
Too bad they didn’t think that it might be because it’s the chests that are a problem.
That’s only because players collectively ignore the fact that the “junk” in chests is actually what chests were designed to deliver.
Wait, what? If the players collectively ignored the fact that chests give out mostly junk, then they would be buying keys, and the whole problem wouldn’t exist. It’s because they know the chests’ worth that key sales drop.
I think he was trying to say that we should accept the junk. Which we absolutely should not. Anet refuses to make keys worthwhile to buy and would rather spite us out of legitimate rewards than do so.
No. My point being is that BLTC had these items from day one that’s what you spent keys on to get. Then in July 2013 they added tickets and now players seem to forget that the so called junk was what players were buying keys to get before tickets were added.
The free key at the end of the first chapter of the personal story was put there so new players would get a sampler of what the Gem Store offered. Their first free hit.
But once they added tickets the chest’s true purpose doesn’t matter anymore to some of you. It’s all about the tickets and if you don’t get one or at least a scrap then it’s a rip off. It’s not a rip off, it’s working as intended, as a means to get random stuff that is or once was available at the Gem Shop, plus some exclusives which includes tickets and scraps. Consciously ignoring that by saying the chests and hence the keys are only about the tickets is a perverted view on what that item is for.
You keep giving this history lesson and I think people are sick of hearing about it now. Okay we get it, the chests when FIRST released had a totally different purpose – to give random items from the pool of other items you could just buy directly. With that the chance to get some super rare items you could not buy directly – Tonics, perm bank contracts etc. I would say that the people were buying the keys for these items and not the other random junk because they could simply just buy them directly anyway.
Then Anet decided to add their frist skin set in the gem store, I can’t remember exactly how it went but I remember there was a LOT of anger over it because of the RNG and cost in the long run. So Anet then decided to shift them to the chests. I would say at this point the whole focus of the chests changed, and yes in Anet’s eyes.
So please, can we stop pretending that the purpose of these chests NOW is for a random thrill of getting boosters, dyes, minis or anything else that you can buy directly. Obviously this has changed not only in the eyes of the players but also in Anets. Why else would they advertise keys and chests as the way to get the new weapon skins every time a new set comes out? They certainly do not say:
“buy some keys now for a random item that you could get directly if you want, but just buy these keys now for the fun of getting one of them randomly – you will get a surprise everytime!” “oh and btw you may also get some scraps to turn into tickets to buy these new skins, but that’s not the main point here, go for the random fun of it all!”
