Thanks for the heads up. I was figuring maybe Tues, a bit more time to farm ToT bags then.

(and cry every time I kill something in there and see all the exp going to waste).

Halloween has an evil theme to it so I guess they had to make it evil somehow……and this is TRUELY evil. Even more so than Scarlett could have ever been even if she did marry Trahearne and if they did have kids to torment us all with (yes, yes I know lore wise that could not happen anyways but this is my evil fantasy so yeah just run with it lol. :P).

this is not a post to improve gw2 its just an " i gotta blow off steam post " that being said after over 3 days trying to get through the aetherblade puzzle to get to the diving spot and still have not done it. who was the sadistic son of a gun that said hey lets make this jumping puzzle a requirement to get a hero point? i am also not trying to make any one mad i just needed to say something and although i am very frustrated i do like GW2 and really appreciate the game. again i just really wanted to release this tension. bless each and every one of you and thank you for allowing me this opportunity to scream

I feel the same way about the diving spot for the Silverwastes jumping puzzle. It’s not that hard to complete, but it’s so long that if you’re not hugely talented at aiming for the itty bitty pool at the bottom and have to repeat the whole puzzle just for another go at it…repeatedly…

Yeah…they say a bit of yoga and deep breathing is good.

Oh do NOT make me remember this nightmare…… I went back to LS to try for these achievements and went for the jumping in to the haystack one. In Drytop I only get 10 FPS and this JP is extra annoying because of it. You easily get stuck underneath the pipe (bamboo?) things and even just getting out of there is a struggle because of the fps and fighting the camera. Then the actual getting to the top….lets just say I gave up and thought I will wait until I upgrade my computer.

A couple of days later I was in Drytop as I decided I would try and use up my keys I had obtained from the PvP reward track. I came to the JP while searching for chests and ressed a few people that fell to their deaths lol. The storm soon died and there were a couple of mesmers that were doing the JP and they started to use portals after they got fed up with all the deaths. Needless to say I took advantage of the portal and got to the top to complete the JP. I knew of the Diving goggles and told them about them as they were about to head off again. So in a way I persuaded them to help me get there too lol (again my 10 FPS is the enemy and fails me here). Got to the goggles, made extra sure I would do it right (watched on youtube) and still failed by a few feet (in game) which would have been about a cm on my screen. You can imagine I gave up at that point.

I have done all other JPs and did not have very much issues with the majority of them. It’s really only Drytop, Silverwastes and WvW zergfest where I get FPS this bad and as such I blame it on that. I should say goodbye to at least one mastery point thanks to this as well.

As for the Not So Secret JP, I got to the top no issue for the chest but cheated to get to the diving goggles as there was a Mesmer on hand offering to port people. So I guess I got lucky there as I had failed a few times getting there after the chest. Mind you I only tried for a couple of minutes and in every other JP I would just force myself to do it until I succeeded so it should not have been an issue. But that Drytop, grrrrrr lol.

I’m more interested in the vendors it opens. I think. Isn’t that the tier that opens new vendors? Or is that Tier 3?

I don’t recall which but you can see here what they offer, well what the ones I have found so far offer:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Pact-supply-network-agents/first#post5674292

Btw the first option in the list lets you use it on any map where you can earn those items for completing events and it will basically give you one of that item. Example go to Southsun and you will get a Karka Shell if that is the listed item. This can be handy for if you need a specific item and can’t be bothered to find an event to do.

I just went back and watched it:

At the 15 min mark he explains it. Pretty much you just get extra craft exp when crafting. So if you are yet to max out a craft it will help. For those of you with all crafts maxed out it will not help except I assume Scribe and if they raise any of the other crafts.

It’s the Pact Mastery. The second tier.

Productive Downtime: Learn to be more efficient and gain bonus experience when crafting.

Ahh yes I thought so, sorry couldn’t double check as I am not in game right now. My first thought was it would help in getting exp for masteries by upping the exp from crafting. But now we have learned that once you are 80 you get no exp from crafting anymore so that can’t be it……if not an over sight it would have to be to help Scribe would be my final guess.

Yet I do remember in the POI the guy said that it should help with making legendaries somehow…..

New Black Lion Weapon Skins....Really?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

To each his own.

I do find it interesting that most of those saying that they think these skins look good also say that that they wouldn’t buy them. It is odd when a product’s vocal supporters won’t spend money on it.

Well tbh it could be the fact that scraps/tickets are not so easy to come by (especially now that key farming is pretty much dead). Even if people do find these skins interesting and decent enough for them to use that is not to say that they would not rather save their tickets/scraps for if in case a new better, super, duper, uber looking skin set comes out next.

Cant add a Sigil to my weapon

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Paulytnz.7619

Can you give us more information? For example have you got another Sigil already on the hammer in the other slot? Good chance if you answer yes there is a conflict with the 2 sigils and both may not work at the same time on the weapon thus anet does not allow them both to be applied.

Edit: sometimes too it can be just plain tricky to apply runes/sigils to gear even if they can be applied. You have to drag the rune/sigil over the gear slot and it has to sit on a certain spot or light up a certain colour. Hard to explain but it does sometimes take a few attempts to actually apply it, just pay close attention to the colour of the window (box) when trying to apply.

well i said it was an empty slot in fact both slots are empty on the hammer and when i try to apply it the weapon turns red and will not apply the sigil

Aha, try it again and be a bit more careful where in the box you move the sigil to. I think I find it easier if you try to place it as close to the top left corner as possible. Or maybe that’s where it errors lol….try a few spots and it should work out.

Also where are you when you are trying to place it? I have noticed issues can happen if you are in the pvp lobby for example, such as you can’t even equip gathering tools.

I would not take the advice that people give to just buy from the TP. Why you may ask? Well it was mentioned in one of the Guild Chats or POI (I forget which) that people who craft their legendary’s well no doubt sooner or later want the ability to craft another of the exact same one. Obviously would be true for duel wielding weapons. So they said to address this issue they are working on new recipes that will allow us to make extra copies of our legendaries and that these recipes should be much cheaper in the long run than the original.

If they are going to do this for one handed weapons I would say they probably will for 2 handed as well as there would be no reason not to. So, just go the long haul and craft your own. Because who knows you may be able to make additional copies for alts in the future at a much cheaper rate.

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

Honestly, it was stupid to have loot drop as bags in wvw in the first place, if the bags were just going to warp to your feet. What’s the point of having a world-lootable device if there’s no reason to walk over to a corpse and loot it? The whole idea of teleporting loot bags was always really dumb.

Actually this system for WVW makes perfect sense. It gives incentive to help defend a tower, keep or Stonemist. If you had to walk over to the body to get your loot it means all your defences and using defence siege is just going to waste. If you try and wait for the whole enemy zerg to be dead before trying to go and loot the bodies they would of course disappear by then. Could you imagine the crying on the forums if this system was not in place for WvW?

You’re missing the point. If it’s going to be a pain to have the bags drop on the bodies, then why have bags drop at all? It was silly to put the loot in bags in the first place rather than have it pop in your inventory so you can concentrate on the task at hand.

Basically, if the bags teleport, then why have bags in the first place? The bags are unneccessary if they just materialize at your feed and only serve to make you hit f for no discernable reason. Get it?

I would say they did it this way so that if you get killed and then your tagged enemy also dies you do not get your reward without having to go back to the area or be ressed. It’s that reward for succeeding thing. Imagine running into a zerg and tagging as many as you could then stopping and not caring if you die or not or just run to the side, afk for a bit and who cares what happens because you will get your loot anyway. And yes, I believe there would be players that would do this lol.

It has been proven that if you give loot from mobs in events people prolong event to farm the mobs or fail events to have them reoccur. This would be the same for xp since they are tied to masteries look at cof farm.

We abuse the system and anet tries to find ways to limit those abuses. and cof isn’t ban-able I’m sure anet will take steps to limit this kind of stuff in the future and why we don’t get loot or xp during events.

Well this is understandable but I am sure they can think up better ways to combat this. Another thing all this is doing is taking value away from our Magic Find levels that we are all building up by sacrificing some of our loot that we could sell instead. Not to mention boosters and other rewards such as from the Birthday gifts etc. They try to fix one thing but in the process break 2 other things, it seems to be coming a trend here…and hey I am usually one of the “fanboys” some would say so that says something….

Good luck.

How can a solo player gain favor?

Supposedly hardcore “1337” players can solo bounties or some other missions.

You neither have to be hardcore nor “l337” to solo easy tier races or treks. You just need a little free time, or a wiki respectively. It’s actually easier than farming silverwastes.

I will take your word for it that they have made races/treks easier than before HOT. Because in the old system doing a trek was pretty well much not so easy or fun. You had to complete the course so many times and the time/mobs in the area were a problem. Bounties were not solo-able, well not the ones I were having probs with even when I was just helping other guilds do their bounties. Add to this guilds had to compete and wait their turns. Sure now it may be easier because guilds can help each other out now in this regard.

Am I missing something here? Are you making real-world money off of loot? Cause if not, why does it kittening matter? You play games to kill time. You play games to have fun. Loot and exp are just bits on a server. What’s the big kittening deal? Why are you turning this into an optimization problem?

Agreed on this. Gaming is entertainment, killing time, having a good time etc.
Sure, loot is a reward for the time invested, but just compare it to the loot you get from an FPS, or a puzzle game, or racing sim.

I have to counter this by saying times you are not killing mobs for the fun of it. It may be they are in your way or are a slight danger to you. So taking your “time” in the game which you would rather spend on doing something more “fun” to deal with this threat and then getting no loot reward for it can leave you with a sour feeling in your mouth.

Loot comes part and parcel with these types of games, you can’t compare them to FPS, puzzle games or racing sims. In a FPS usually you are playing online/multiplayer and the reward is your skill is better than the other player by taking them down. For racing the same thing and puzzle games its about getting a higher score.

Summary – loot can add fun to the game because it rewards players for taking the time to kill things instead of just running through (which is another part of the problem here). It is also a great way to earn wealth in a game which is NOT a bad thing. People like to do things in games they can’t so easily do in real life and making vast fortunes in game is one of the big things in that regard.

I noticed this yesterday too and it does suck. I think there are various reasons for this tbh.

Cause 1: Players on forums moan they only get “junk” blue and green drops all the time from mobs/chests.

Effect: Anet says to themselves “so they don’t appreciate the loot we give them. Lets give them events where mobs drop no items so when they do get greens/blues in other areas of the game they will appreciate them more!”

Cause 2: Back in the day some players moaned that greedy players were using Magic Find gear to get better drops and this was having negative effects for other players who played with them because they were doing less damage. So what did Anet do? They finally removed Magic Find from gear. The result? Since players could not use gear for better chances at getting more/better loot they looked at what else they could do to replicate this. Enter the Berserker Meta. Obviously if you are killing things faster you are increasing your drop chances/loot gained.

Cause 3: Before HOT is released players post on the forums that they are concerned new HOT maps will take people away from other maps because the loot will be better/more enticing. Thus players who do not have HOT and who are still in these maps will find it harder to do events and earn rewards, especially Silverwastes which is still pretty well much a new area to the game.

Personally I think drops in this game have always sucked to a degree. You can kill mobs and get nothing. You can go 5+ mobs like this and get nothing. Sure it might not be much of a problem if you are in zerkers gear and killing mobs at a decent rate. But for those of us who never went for that meta and went for something with more survivability we suffer because of the slower kills. I can understand why they implemented this system too. 1 to fight bots and 2 they probably figured people will kill things in groups thus no need for everything to have a drop because a group can kill things dang well fast and have lots of loot from all the mobs dropping.

Add to that they want you to do events rather than just going around and killing things mindlessly or farming certain areas for long periods of time. Again I can understand this but it just sucks when you are trying to get somewhere and there are annoying mobs in your way all the time and so you kill them to be done with it and then get no reward for your time.

I am now also going to compare this game to another game that I came here from for the drop/loot systems. Just so you get an idea how having good drops can improve on gameplay. Namely Runescape, yes it is not a AAA game or a very great one for that MMO epic feeling. Yet it does FAR better than this game for the drop/loot system. Now in that game you truly have to “grind” for your levels. You do this by killing mobs non stop for hours on end and the best method is usually choosing a mob type and staying in their zone and killing for very long periods of time. This may sound boring and well, it pretty much is. However because of the drop rate you notice it far less. Simply because you get a drop EVERY kill. Yes the vast majority of the drops are junk such as gold coins which could be worth anything to the value of 2 copper up to 2k copper. If not that you may get herbs to make potions or other craft mats. Only certain creatures actually drop weapons or armours and those that do are usually rare and require a certain lvl or other some such to be able to even fight the creature. The coins do add up and you feel like you are progressing in the end because of this. Also since you are getting a drop every kill and the pool of items is pretty vast it feels like you are opening up a birthday or xmas gift each time as you just never know what will pop out. So again this adds to the fun of the killing and takes your mind off the mindless grindy boring combat system.

I feel the loot/drop system in this game seriously needs to be looked at and changed. Gives us a drop EVERY time. Make it a crappy 2 -100 copper if you must. That’s fine, I don’t care it’s a low amount because it is at least SOMETHING. Remove weps/armours from drops, make them exclusive to crafting or rare creature drops. Replace the weps/armour drops with something else. Heck more leather/cloth/loot bag drops would be more appreciated I am sure.

Ok, rant over. :P

Tbh the whole personal bank/vault thing was sort of an exploit or getting around of the system in the first place.

Yes I do have just a 2 person guild and we did unlock all the storage options so I really should not be saying this. However my friend and I (both came here from another game) made our guild for the purpose of the usual guild reasons and did not make it specifically for the storage benefits. This is our main guild and always will be, period.

I think this had to be done to stop further “exploits” (for lack of a better word) and to get people to look at guilds for what they are meant to be and not some personal storage feature. That may sound harsh but it is what it is. Maybe part of the problem is we can belong to so many guilds at once?

I am still trying to figure out what this grind is. Having to do events to gain experience? Having to hunt down and beat hero challenges? I’ve noticed that some seem to think so, but for me that is not grind. That is playing a game.

What is grind to me is something like CoF xp farm or if I did the Mad King’s Lab for many hours a day. Or repeating one single event continuously or worse keep it from ever completing.

There is a huge amount of stuff to do in HoT in both ways: A lot of xp is needed but there is also a great variety of things to choose from. If this is what the Asian ‘grindy MMOs’ are like, maybe I should try one,

The difference is with those games and their grind you usually have little to no options/variety in doing your goals. Thus why they are called grinds. Here you have a ton of different events to do for the exp needed. In most of those games you may be limited to killing certain mobs for example as any others will be too low lvl to give you any exp at all.

I still have flashbacks to my days in Perfectworld trying to lvl beyond lvl 60 combat. I could only kill certain creatures and it was mind-numbing boring.

Don’t even get me started on Runescape and the spending 100+ hours in say 1 skill for example where you literally have go to your bank and withdrawal 28 steel bars, go to anvil and smith said 28 bars. Might not sound like much but when you have to do 100,000 said bars you soon realise that you are going to have to do this on auto pilot mode (no not botting, paying very little attention and just click, click, click) while watching a ton of movies over the next month or 2. Oh and did I forget to say that this is just for 1 lvl, from 98 smithing to 99? That is true grind my friend lol….

And by we, I mean the western players who were the demographic of choice when the game launched. The biggest complaint when Guild Wars 2 hit China was that players burned through the content in no time. There’s still a large segment there that equates MMOs with grind and real money spent. The content host for the Chinese version has contests that reward the players who pay the most cash during the events. Many, many more potential clients await in that market made up of that likes to show off dollars spent in game, and who enjoy knowing that the hours put in today are only the first of many to come.

It’s quite possible that we are the scraps. Players made it clear that what’s come with HoT was not what they were wanting from the outset, but we got it anyway. There has been little to no response from Anet about it. Some bought HoT blindly and in general Anet probably got the revenue they were wanting, perhaps just icing on the cake, and they now have a design that will continue to hold up better in the Chinese market in the future. Just a thought that I had. Feel free to add yours.

First off I think this post shows what is “wrong” with the Western stereotype. The so called instant gratification that kids needs these days. This might show my age a bit but none in my 17 years of MMOs have I heard so much complaining about a so called “grind” in a game. “I have to play the game for more than 20 mins to get all the new content?”, “I have to actually go farm mats to make my weapons?”, etc.

2nd of all I have been playing GW2 off and on since launch. Nowhere in these entire game have I had to “cash out” to win anything. I am against the whole P2W stereo. I actually prefer paid subscription base as it forces devs to pump out new content or they don’t get paid. If anything the one thing that has come out of the Eastern Market that is killing game play is the “Cash Shop” and "Lotto chests (AKA Black Lion chest). These pump more revenue into a game then sub but for little to no work. However Rift and GW2 have at least found a decent balance primarily only offering vanity items. (I still have my issues with boosters.)

If you are saying that the Gemshop in GW2 is killing the game I will have to disagree with you. Sure I do agree with you about the bltc chests, they should go bye bye or at least separate the weapon skins from them. There is nothing in the gemstore that can be killing this game, most of it is fluff and convenience items. People can live without them and they do little to no harm to the game. If you are saying Anet makes enough cash off the gemstore to just sit back, relax and slack off, again I will have to disagree with you. If anything I think they are doing the best they can to expand the game and put in more content as fast as they can. It may not seem like that recently (well before HOT) but that is probably because they have gone back and put a lot of work into designing the wheel all over again not once but twice (the trait/skill unlock system). Also lets not forget the never ending (it seems) rebalancing of skills .

I and a lot of other people I am sure are over paid subs. I think they are nothing more than price gouging. For too long these companies have charged too much for what they have given. If anything they can slack off because they are already getting your money. I prefer the model we have because it means if the gemstore is not pulling it’s weight then Anet has to work for our cash thus – expansions.

Can we make mentor harder to get?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Paulytnz.7619

I had planned to use the Mentor tag and have it up as I clear maps on my Rev so people can whisper me if they needed any help/info. The apple icon above my head is so distracting I turned it off after 5 mins lol.

So I think once the novelty wears off a bit, more and more people will get sick of the apple above their heads as well and just turn it off. Also if they do get a lot of whispers, and if they are not using the tag for the purpose of actually helping people that will be another reason to turn it off.

You do not get exp for crafting at L80 anymore. I tried it on my Revenant as soon as I created her and brought her up to L80.

Oh really? Seems like Anet must have put this in as an anti easy Mastery levelling measure. Seems fair enough I guess.

If you are lvl 80 it should yes. Keep in mind you will be in Tyria tho so it will only count for the Tyria Masteries.

Keys no longer drop from doing map comp?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I got map completion on one character, and a bunch of random maps completed on other characters. I got a lot of alts.

I have never, ever, gotten a key for completing a map. I didn’t even know it was possible untill like a year ago when someone told me it was.

I would say you have some VERY bad luck. I have done world complete 10 times so far (and doing Rev now) and must have got at least 30+ keys from them all.

I have noticed less keys as well but I am pretty sure I have got at least 1 so far. Possibly they just nerfed it a bit when they took out the key farming.

vengefull hammers impossible to use

Paulytnz.7619

I use Jalis and the Vengeful Hammers about 99% of the time in my combat. I do not see it as bad as you say it is. Sure they do cancel now and then and that is usually caused by one of the following reasons:

1 – They hit a solid object like a wall or something.
2 – They can stop sometimes it seems even when hitting a friendly NPC.
3 – You run out of energy.

There are probably other reasons but I may have not discovered them yet. But like I say I use them a lot and do not see it as bad as you are saying. Maybe it’s a Fractals thing. Atm I am just doing map completes and have done all of my PS.

Would still be nice to get a fix for this, however the water combat issues should take priority imo.

You get 214 points just through level ups. Any from maps are bonus so you can easily fill out all core lines.

As for the Elite specs you will have to do some HOT for all of that line.

Revenant/Mistfire Wolf Elite skill?

don’t forget that rev also only has one underwater weapon

It’s all they need tbh as it is both a great melee and ranged weapon. Right now it is bugged as well as the skill 2 costs NO energy (oversight I am sure and they will add an energy cost to it, mark my words) and is super powerful. Run with Shiro and all you need to do is spam skill 2 and the elite and you are fine.

Roy actually answered about that a bit ago andit’s working as intended. it’s not supposed to have energy or CD, skill 2 is fairly unique in that it’s a “second autoattack”

it would be unfair to give Rev only one underwater weapon but make it unviable for either condi or direct damage, so if you look, all of our abilities are dual-natured.

AA is a ranged condi autoattack, Spear2 is a power based melee autoattack, spear3 is a condi bubble that you can detonate for a power based explosion, spear 4 is a ranged condi application over time that you can consume to shadowstep and do a melee attack, and spear 5 is a CC skill

All I can say to this is WOW just WOW, in the awesome this is good kind of way. As I said it’s a very powerful skill and having no cooldown or energy cost just adds to that times 10. So then, this being the case I stand by what I said earlier, Rev does NOT need another weapon as this is 2 in 1 and very powerful at that.

You are correct PvP ad PVE are separate. Only bother or worry about PvE if you want to do it for the fun of it or to say unlock other things such as skins/Transmute charges etc.

You are perfectly find to do PvP on it’s own

My only issue with revenant

in Revenant

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

I think Glint heal is the best heal in the game overall, up there with vampire signet and healing signet.

My only issues with rev is the staff overall. ive a found minor uses for it.
Also I love how well the mace is done, but I hate we lack condi traits to support it

The thing about the staff is you just use skill 1 and stick with it. The third hit has the heal orb thing and you want to spam that as much as possible. Of course use skill 4 for an extra heal and condi cleanse if needed.

The staff’s damage is on the low side yes but coupled with Jalis’ vengeful hammers it works out great. Your damage is about right (zerker at least) and your HP can easily be kept at 100%.

Jalis 3 (off the top of my head, not in game right now) and Staff 4 is another useful use for the staff as well – Swiftness.

Some people are leveling the old fashioned way. A friend of mine is leveling her rev by map expIorarion. I did on my last char, who is a couple of months old. The only reason I didn’t do it this time was because how the mastery system is set up, otherwise I would have done the old way on my rev too.

^^^

Ditto here. I have done 10 Chars so far the old fashioned way via world completes and would have done the same if not for this mastery exp thing. I could have levelled many of my alts up straight to 80 with tomes and the like. However usually I preferred to learn the class as I unlocked it bit by bit.

This time around I just saw all the exp from map completes, events and level ups being wasted potential Mastery exp so I tomed it. No one to blame here really besides anet. :P

Lastly it actually gives some of us some sense of value to tomes of knowledge and such too now. Previously they were just junk (my personal opinion) and were only good for extra Shards (got 2.5k so no real thing there for me) or some easy key farm runs. Since they killed the key farming of course this took a huge bit of value away from tomes and scrolls.
