Thanks for the info guys. And grats on the Royal Pass drop!. I managed to get one of those portal item thingies from a bag drop myself. :-D
Does anybody know if there is anything worth paying gems and going to this place for besides “Convenience”? IE merchants with items you can’t buy anywhere else etc.
Cool rapier could fit to my Noble Mesmer character. I wonder if Anet will try to create more rapiers for lover levels for instance ?
No the wont. Why do I say this? Because this would be a level 80 weapon I am assuming, thus they want you to buy it and use a Trans Crystal to apply the look to lower level weapons. Trans Crystals = more gem sales. :P
None of those. I would be Skritt.
I am in agreement here. Skritt for life! Heck I might even consider dropping my Human Engi Main (who has over 300 spare skill points) to make a new Skritt Engi main! O.O
I was thinking the other day that they could also give us the option to cut our tails off! Like a Doberman or whatever dog it is that this usually happens too, might be a better option.
Melissa is an awesome chick. I don’t like the look on her face though, all squished and weird.
Like a little raisin?
Fight our mentors? Naw, Trehearne is what I’m smelling here since everyone always calls for his blood! Ummm, errrrr or would that be sap? O.O
Meh I don’t need any bugs for this fight to screw me over, I’m an Engi and we have the crappiest stability in the game – 50% chance for a 5 second stability. If it fails then a 60 sec cooldown. I can’t do this fight without stability it seems as I AM perma knocked down and I CAN see the tornado’s…….
Seems like they really DO want everyone to go zerker as everyone is telling me you don’t need stability if you kill her fast enough, well if I could stand and damage her then maybe but hell I can do that………..
In the arena with a zerg someone linked the Rapier and said she got it from a bag from the Pirate (legendary, whatever) champ. SOOOOOOOOOOO my guess is (and this is logical if you think about it) any pirate/bandit champ would be the family that would drop this skin.
I’m expecting to see a lot more people camping the Queensdale bandit champ now…
Happy hunting!
Lol on the very 1st day of the 3 day early release I had already planned ahead exactly for this question. On that day I made all 8 characters covering all classes and races. So I am HOPING we do get gifts like we did in GW1 and if we do on that day I should get 8 in one big bang! :-D
Having said all this now, Anet will probably go ahead and alter it to “account” gifts and not “character” like it was on GW1.
Why close servers just for the sake of WvW? This game is still new (really it is) and as such more people will continue to join and play so they will need these servers to play on.
Forcing people to busier servers just for the sake of WvW is pointless. Obviously it means these players do NOT WvW in the first place. If they did and saw their servers just had little to no action you would think they would just MOVE to the busier servers for that action. Is this what this post is all about, do you just want a FREE transfer to a busier world?
I read the article and I must say it looks interesting. It did leave a few questions unanswered tho such as cost. Will it be a subs game for example? They didn’t cover the question on death either like the writer mentioned. Also with the world be destroyable and the part about players aiding the enemy mobs etc, I could see a lot of space for griefers to do their work here.
Having said all that tho it does look interesting I might have to keep an eye on it.
If they made it daily they wouldn’t really make Orr or any zones really that much more popular than they are (except when people are farming for dailies), but then again if they didn’t make it daily than people would probably flock to the higher level areas if the crafting materials were actually worth farming.
I would still do all different level maps myself as I am working on 400 in each craft AND unlocking every recipe. That’s right getting 400 is not enough for me I have to TOTALLY master a skill lol. I wont buy the mats so I will get them myself . So that would mean visiting various maps if they are once a day or level/map specific. :-D
I guess that’s true.. but wouldn’t just farming the higher/more expensive tiers be so much easier? xD
The thing is in order to make say tier 5 items in a craft you first need to make the tiers 1-4 and in order to do that you need the mats for them lol. Right now I have a bucketload of tier 5 and some 6 mats because I WvW (as well as getting tier 5 wep/armour drops in lower lvl zones and salvaging them) so much and can’t use them in about 4 crafts because those ones are still too low. So yeah, you have to go back to lower areas sometimes unless you buy them lol.
Farm keys via the lvl 10 quest if you really want/need them. 1 run can take 30-40 mins solo and a lot quicker if doing with friends. Find a guide or look on youtube they are out there.
More like 19-30mins. And playing it with friends doesn’t usually speed up the process, their loading times slow you down most of the times, especially when you use kitten and your friend doesn’t.
Having the Deluxe game or whatever it’s called really helps too as you can access your gear (bank) right from the start of the game.
eh? this means all deluxe edition accounts newly created characters will have a golem banker (5 days) ???
Yup
Depends I guess on playstyles and latency and all that as well as knowing what to do. Some bosses just take a while to go down so I would think it’s faster with an extra person or 2. I run on a guardian usually with premade wep/armour all with power attached to it and at lvl 4 it can take a while to kill a boss or two lol.
Then again maybe I usually just want to end the ordeal as quick as possible.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Golem_Banker
“Acquisition
A one-time bonus, for each new character generated on an account, provided to owners of the Guild Wars 2 Digital Deluxe or Collector’s Editions.”this would certainly save time on loading screens
Yup, every alt made gets the bonus of the banker as well as the accessory ring thing. It helps slightly.
I figured ok, i have extra money in my account and i like this game. Might as well show my support. Also thinking, ’Well since im spending real money on keys, maybe ill get something good in return?" That was maybe my fault. But still though, why make the drop rate on tickets and scraps so bad on chests when the regular drop rate on keys are horrible??
It is a different problem. They must add something useful to compensate. But they add useless _ boosters, logging axes etc. When you get gathering tools for example you feel yourself cheated because “Black Lion Logging Axe” = 1 silver. While 1 key ~= 3 gold.
Hey I never said I don’t support this game. I have purchased 2k gems forthe deluxe version, an extra 4 char slots, extra 3 bag slots for 8 of my characters (yes I said I bought 4 chars, 1 I use for key running so I don’t buy bag slots for that :P ), I have fully purchased all the extra bank pages as well as bought costumes etc.
I am not against buying gems with real money as I have done so plainly. I am against “gambling” or such when it comes to real cash. In this day when people are struggling and we try and make every cent that we have get used to the fullest or for the best; anything along the lines of “pay and pray” for something is just not in good taste imo. Offer your things straight up for a strict cash amount, it’s just integrity.
I mean other games go as far as to offer things like mounts etc to entice customers to spend cash. Heck I used to play Perfectworld and they would charge crazy prices as $50 U.S for new mounts when they came. If Anet REALLY wanted cash or needed it so bad they could go down this route as evidence shows people DO pay crazy prices for such things. But gambling……just no, lol.
About kids… Nothing personal. I meant they have free time to spend they don’t know how. I suggest to get a job and buy keys directly. Even if it will be 5$ a hour – it is much more profitable.
TBH even if I was a millionaire I wouldn’t buy these keys still on matter of principal. RNG has to go. I wont go into the why’s, when’s, where’s, how’s, what’s or whatever right now as I’m too tired but thanks for the suggestion. :P

Yeah let’s just tell everyone how to get free keys so that ArenaNet removes this as an option… -____-
I will never do it. And main reason is: i farm money in real life much faster. So if i want to buy a key – i will buy it for real money. If i want to spend my time – i will spend it for something good. But NOT as boring as this farm. Every mature player must understand this. So i don’t think arena will remove these keys from personal stories. Because they don’t care if some kids will get a key and will use it to obtain some bytes in theirs database. It is not even worth theirs developers time spent
TBH I only discovered this method of obtaining keys as I made a new alt one day to try an alternate storyline option to the personal story to see how they all played out and I had a blast doing so.
I had so much fun just bowling through the mobs and thought well if I can get a key every time at level 10 I may as well do this now and again whenever I’m bored and can’t be bothered doing something else. It’s kind of like buying a scratch ticket where you could win a nice prize – half the fun is in the scratching off.
I never farm more than maybe 2 runs in 1 day and heck I can go months without even bothering to do a run at all. It’s like I said if there’s nothing else to do in game and if I’m short on BLTC salvage kits then I look at running for a key. :P
Personally I wish they would add a new type of mini dungeon to replace this. Perhaps some kind of small solo dungeon that randomises the rooms every time you run it with a chance at some nice rewards including keys. It’s small little minigames/diversions like this that can add to the spice of the game and give us something different to do now and then when bored with the other main aspects of the game while as I said giving us a chance to get some nice prize. :-D
Oh and I am very mature (old) even tho I may not act it sometimes, but rest assured I am no “kid” :P
Aren’t champ rewards just once per day per champ? That makes camping them kind of pointless, doesn’t it?
I never read anywhere this was the case but when I first read the announcements about all of this I had a feeling it might be the case. If so I think I would be happy about this as it would spread people out to other maps and not just camp the same maps over and over all day long.
Last night, for the first time ever, while in WvW with my newly leveled 80 mesmer, I got a Black Lion Key from a drop! I was so excited I thought that I would share my excitement with everyone.
However, knowing ANET, that drop rate will soon be nerfed!
Trolla lol a lol a lol, I don’t think it can be nerfed any further, perhaps taken from drops entirely is the only way. :P

what quest?
I don’t mind farming for the keys.
the personal story, level 10 chapter gives you a guaranteed key. People farm this. create new character, do story, level, do more story, level, do level 10 story, get key, deposit, delete character, start over. I hear one of the human story lines is the quickest/easiest. takes about 20-40 minutes depending on how many people are helping you.
Tip: You DON’T have to level up at all. You can rush straight from the very first quest and complete all quests up to and including the lvl 10 one from the very start of the game. I do so and usually finish the lvl 10 quest at about lvl 4 or 5 from all the level ups from the quest rewards.
Personally I found human, middle class story to be good for this, I found this very early on, then read on forums and saw on youtube that everyone else prefers this path too lol.
You can pre-make gear for your character to use just don’t go any higher than masterwork (so that it remains account bound). Having the Deluxe game or whatever it’s called really helps too as you can access your gear (bank) right from the start of the game.
PS, did a few low lvl quests on one of my alts earlier today and noticed there are now NO cash rewards for quests. Anyone else notice this? We used to get some good cash for the 1-10 lvl quests and now nothing. Maybe because of all the key farmers?
Yeah let’s just tell everyone how to get free keys so that ArenaNet removes this as an option… -____-
Anet are aware people farm keys. They wont remove it because they know that even 40 mins of game time for just 1 key is still a long time. Besides I still stand by my previous statement on another thread that they are NOT desperate for cash, believe me if they were we would see a lot more cosmetics in the store and all this rng would go flying out the window. It’s only here now to encourage people who want to be “one of the lucky few” to continue buying these keys so they can be exclusive. If the RNG was gone we would see a whole other player type buying the cosmetics and I can assure you there would be a ton more sales.
cabbage
/15char
Awww you beat me…..
One word – cabbage!
I have a feeling besides coins the most common drops in these new loot bags will be the crafting materials. As such I should imagine (and hope) that they are consistant for the map that the champion is in. Meaning lvl 1-15 zones would give you weak vials of blood etc and Orr would give you tier 5 and tier 6 mats. Just think of them as normal loot bags for the areas I guess but with greater chances (again I am hoping) for the mats over other junk like cooking ingreds as well as have rare chances at some of these other things.

I think you answered your own question really. Those that complain a lot continue to play because it is free. They come back and complain here because they think they are justified (in some cases they are) and hope to change things.
Also despite all their complaints most of them probably still think it’s a good game. I complain now and then myself lol but for the most part the game is more good than bad experiences imo and only (knock on wood) has room to get better.
I guess, but that isn’t exactly what I meant. I meant what do they like about the game, what is the thing that draws them? They must like something, I mean they keep doing it right? So many people focus on negatives in a game (which isnt always bad. pointing out flaws can help fix bad issues) but never say “Oh I really liked this, I just thought it was awesome.” Because people take the good things for granted usually. I just wanna see what people like in Tyria. My favorite thing has always been the stuff with the Order of Whispers.
Well in that case for me personally I like to explore things while having an epic adventure. I also love building up from scratch and getting more powerful/rich as I progress in these kinds of games too.
So for my exploring of course it’s the world, all the classes, all the different enemy types, and all aspects of the game such as WvW, dungeons, pretty much everything lol.
I have 8 characters so far which of course covers all the classes and races because you know I want to explore them all and see all the strengths and weaknesses. Of course when they do add more races and classes I will have to buy even more char slots to explore all of them too. :P
So far 6 chars with world complete and number 7 not far off, some 7500+ achievement points and I still have a ton left to explore and I play a ton. So anytime I see people saying things like “there’s nothing to do” I just think well yeah if you stick to one char and limit what you do in the game that will be the case but if you try looking at the game from a different point there’s actually tons to do!
Does anything you do in the game affect pvp at all? Or is pvp just its own separate world basically?
There’s 3 forms of PvP at the moment and to answer your question really is different for 2 of the different forms.
Form 1 is WvW which auto bumps you to level 80 to play it but you will only have access to what you have access to in PvE with regards to skills and equipment. Also it should be said here that anything you do in WvW effects you in PvE, meaning you can level up here and gain skills/equipment. Some people actually prefer to level here as it can be a ton of fun.
Forms 2 and 3 are sPvP, tPvP and any competitive minigames they continue to add to the game. These forms are totally separate from PvE and WvW and you can look at these forms as their own sort of game.
I think you answered your own question really. Those that complain a lot continue to play because it is free. They come back and complain here because they think they are justified (in some cases they are) and hope to change things.
Also despite all their complaints most of them probably still think it’s a good game. I complain now and then myself lol but for the most part the game is more good than bad experiences imo and only (knock on wood) has room to get better.

one of this games biggest shortcomings, in my opinion, is the first 5ish levels. The game wants you to go out and explore!… but only in this small area at first. Once you cet a couple levels and have more map that’s accessible, running around looking for DE’s get’s much more enjoyable.
As for your story missions, they generally aren;t more frequentr than every other level, so I recommend you save them and do ~10 levels worth at a time. It’s a much smoother experience that way. otherwise you end an instance with “Hurry! We must get to the blah before blah can blah!” Then you have to level twice before you can get to the blah.
Lol good advice. This whole game just has so much more than I thought it did so it’s quite a bit to take in. Plus I’m used to the old formula of MMOs. “Go kill ten bears”, “Kill this boss here”. It’s nice to have something to play that is different. Refreshing.
I agree with the post you quoted. Personally I don’t even touch the personal story anymore until my characters have hit max level (80) and have world complete. This really helps to keep the story alive and a continuous experience when you do finally get to it. All the extra skills and such that you have by this time really helps you to tackle some of the harder parts of the storyline and in the long run too I’m sure you get a lot more experience etc from doing them this way.
The only downside is that 99% of the rewards you will have no use for. In the end this does not matter much tho as from about level 20 onwards pretty much 99% of the quest rewards are useless. You even stop getting gold after level 10 I believe as I think they had intended for the 1st 10 levels were to help you gear up for the bigger world to do events/map completes where you are to make the rest of the cash.
Anywho good luck and welcome!
PS I would recommend clearing all the city maps and other level 1-15 zones before moving onto the 15+ maps as this will have you well above level to easily face the maps you will be facing. This is especially needed these days as you will find 99% of the maps pretty much dead and without a lot of help so you need to be ready to solo things especially groups as this becomes more of a factor in the higher level maps.

Umm I doubt very much that Peter Jackson would ever consider such a thing……
I am from NZ also and have seen some of his very early movies which were so low budget that you would think “why would you say that?” They were good movies but in all honestly he has moved on from those kinds of movies (low grade/budget) and let’s be honest GW hardly has the kind of following that LOTR ever had.
Lastly GW never really had a good story as in storyline wise. Mind you I haven’t really read any of the books but still…..lol
Doesn’t matter, Peter Jackson would
butcherchange the story anyway.“If you want him, come and claim him!” said Arwen Warrior Princess, never.
Anyway, I’d watch a GW movie even if it was directed by… him.
Yeah! Where the hell was Glorfindel?!
You mean Tom Bombadil (spelling?) surely right!????
I would have liked to see him too. And the real way the Hobbits got their Barrow-downs daggers. I was talking about Glorfindel though, he was the one in the book that took the Hobbits to Rivendell.
Yeah I know I’ve read the book twice now and the last time was just before the movies to see what changes were made. I think the reason he used that elf girl instead for that part of the movie was to introduce her character sooner so people cared more for her since she was a big part of Strider’s story.
It was a shame he had to change a few things but luckily He was a big fan of the books which is why a lot of it stayed true to the books and he made it a 3 parter and not just the one movie like others had done before and failed.
This was my point tho I doubt very much he would have made the movies if he wasn’t a fan from childhood and cared so much about it. So back to my comment of him making a GW movie, I just don’t think he would care enough to even bother or if he did, give it as much attention he did for the LOTR movies.

Meh I prefer rifle over pistol 99% of the time. Slightly longer range, it does more damage per hit (even if a little bit slower), single target hit unless they are really bunched up and a lot more control skills.
Pistols really are only good for aoe-ing small groups and the odd blind/confuse.
Grind in GW2? If you want to know what grind is go and play a little game called Runescape…..that my friend is grind. This is all fun fun. :P

You know I’ve been playing this game since 3 day early launch and never much bothered with the combos before. I guess there’s a ton more yet for me to explore and learn.
Dunno how many people know of this combo field but I just discovered it by mucking about.
Bombkit’s Smokebomb + Big Ol’ Bomb gives us about 2-3 seconds of stealth.
Anyone else found any other combo fields that are not too well known?

Guild Wars has very deep lore, especially in GW1 and in GW2 there’s a lot of lore as well. The books are good, i haven’t read Sea of Sorrows yet though. It really depends on where in the story they want to base the movie off, or if they are going to make it seperate from the “main” story and do something else.
To start with the human gods(who left Tyria), Orr and the guild wars and the searing of ascalon and then go on with Glint and mursaat i think would be a good start for a first movie. Very interesting lore and it has very deep connection to the lore in GW2. Faction and Nightfall, Cantha and Elona doesn’t really have anything connected to the “main” lore except that kormir and Abaddon were gods.
See I played GW1 and have all the expansions and played them all through. For some reason the stories for me just never really stuck out or made an impression. Maybe they were just all over the place I don’t know…..
But if I think back to some games like the Final Fantasy’s for example (not online, stand alone) from 7 onwards I can instantly remember the story and how much of an impact it had on me. I don’t know what it is with GW lol…..
I have had to contact Support a few times and I must say that I have had Average to good quality every time. The cases where I said average always ended in a good ending but I rate them average just for a few minor things, such as time and just lack of basic logics at times lol.
Anywho to address what you typed at the end of your post “I highly recommend you avoid anything that will end up putting you in contact with Support.” I would counter recommend that it’s plainly better to advise people to try and NOT share their comps with other people if at all possible…

Not really considering I assume most people just farm their way there by doing COF 1 or something…….to me that’s just boring and a short cut.
Having said that I don’t have a legendary myself yet probably due to the fact I have all 8 classes covered on 8 chars and so I play those to clear their maps etc and don’t force myself to just “make gold” or whatever everyone else does once they reach cap on 1 char.
But once I do have any legendaries I want I will be proud of that fact just for myself and don’t give a care in the world if anyone else is impressed or not. After all if I do decide to go for any it’s more for the skin than to impress others. I really don’t know why people bother to get certain skins etc thinking/hoping that they will impress others lol….
Update it now lets you buy them and worse I just found out the sales did go through but it was giving me the wrong message so I bought more than I needed now….
Can’t seem to buy any runes all that happens is what you will see below in the pic…..
So annoying.
I have refreshed as advised, tried 2 different sets of runes and tried all sorts of prices and it still will not let me buy any.
As long as an area (map) says 100% you are good for that area.
This is what happens when you add a prize to the achievements. Because the prize is available people want it right away. They feel they can’t wait. I’ve seen it with achievement titles as well. Someone mails someone else a bunch of gold so they can get the “Golden” title. Look at the “Combat Healer” title. Do you think most people with that title went out of their was rez 1000 other players? It is more likely they farmed downed NPCs.
Now there are chests with shineys tied to it and people “have” to have it right now.
So you are saying that resing NPC’s shouldn’t count? What about the players who boosted this title by having their friends suicide over and over simply because it was a lot faster than finding Npc’s to res?
In my opinion NPCs should not count. It would give the achievement much more merit. Dead NPCs are all over the place and rezing 1000 of them while playing normally in my opinion is not a major achievement. If someone want’s to jump off a ledge 1000 times so their friend can get the title so be it. I don’t really see that happening that much though as it would be rather time consuming. It’s too late though as changing the achievement would not work now that it is already in place.
I guess you didn’t see the bot’s doing it in Divinity’s Reach…..jump off edge near bank, WP right back to bank and repeat. these people were getting this achievement/title in 1 day where I earned it over a month or 2 from both players and npcs.
Btw saying resing 1k of npcs does not merit it is kind of like saying that most of the slayer or weapon master achievements are worthless as well since it’s 1k kills for both of those with the added fact that resing is a lot more boring/less rewarding than straight up killing.
I guess you would want 1k Player kills too for weapon master?

All I can say is:
1 – You can block chat rather than hope for a system that “allows you to kick people out of the game”.
2 – Hate the game or the way it’s made not the players….ask why some of these achievements are put into the game when Anet should surely know it will cause issues like this.
3 – Despite their best efforts griefing exists in this game – via any new minigame that comes in when players can simply do the BEST that they can to ANNOY other players and stop them from earning certain achievements. They can then turn around and simply say “Anet want’s us to play this game this way!”
Lol, are you actually saying that the people who want to play the game the way it was designed to be played are griefers?
No, I am saying there are some people who play these mini games just to grief others for the fun of it.
Example, some noob playing the sprint minigame not even bothering to finish the race and sit (camp) near the last set of jumps just to “push” others off over and over so that they can’t finish the race unless they are lucky enough to get past this part with a light travel pick up.
Another example was in the dragon bash game where some players would just camp spawn points and kill you over and over just for the heck of it.
I have seen players do both these things and other such things.
You can not deny people WILL abuse parts of game for the fun of it just because they can. Remember those in WvW who would place siege in the JP’s? Same thing, they were not there trying to complete the JP but to stop other players from doing so and they had found ways that could not be countered, thus – griefing.

This is an obvious troll post. The OPs last post in a thread prior to this was 5 months ago and their English was much, much better.
It could be a “brother” or “sister” now on the account or even someone who has stolen the account……you never know.
All I can say is:
1 – You can block chat rather than hope for a system that “allows you to kick people out of the game”.
2 – Hate the game or the way it’s made not the players….ask why some of these achievements are put into the game when Anet should surely know it will cause issues like this.
