Anyone who isn’t good at JP’s is probably using W,A,S,D for movement.

I really have no idea what you are talking about here……

I consider myself good at them (having done them all) and I use W,A,S,D and I also have W set up as auto run too.

GW1 monsters vs GW2 monsters

I remember when facing minotaurs in GW1 you were at risk of losing your life if hit with too many groups at once. Here they are like little babies just begging to be played with and hugged. Seriously they made them SO much weaker….

Sure because you don’t have eight guys with you all the time. And later in Guild Wars 1’s life span, even hard mode was ridiculously easy. My heroes were specced out and I could literally go afk and come back to a field of dead bodies. I didn’t have to play at all, my heroes were so good.

I had a full team of Heroes too. The point I’m making is that even just 1 on 1 they were a challenge unlike here. Very often I would face one alone or see one of my Heroes facing one alone and not doing too well. Here, I can go vs 3-4 without breaking a sweat.

What? Minotaurs in GW1 were a challenge? I could solo whole groups of them 6+ -in Hard Mode- without any kind of problem on my Mesmer,Monk,Ritualist,Elementalist, maybe others too I didn’t solo with all my chars, and all that while being nearly afk. 1vs1 most mobs in GW1 were as easy as in GW2, if not easier. There was absolutely no mob you couldn’t take 1vs1 if you were a competent player, much like in GW2, the big difference is that mobs in GW1 were always in groups, and those ORGANISED groups, with healers, aoe dps, buffers, interrupters were the hardest fights, harder than the dungeon bosses. That didn’t make those mobs any harder individually

Maybe you would run with one of those uber builds that could allow such things as this such as 55 monks etc. I never got as hardcore into GW1 as many others to get to this point. I would build my main char to be able to handle most situations and of course in a team setting. I never once tried setting up an uber solo fighter unlike you by the sounds of things.

Having said that, you could afk in GW1 I am assuming because your allies (heroes/henchies) would attack anything that got too close. How could you do this or why would you even bother to for a great length of time being that were no respawning mobs and once killed they stayed that way until you left the map?

Now if they let our chars in GW2 auto attack or retaliate to any incoming attacks I too could say that I could afk a lot of the encounters (on my main with his current build). That does not make one system or monster from either game harder or simpliar now does it? It just points out the obvious system differences in the 2 games.

Perhaps what I was trying to say here like someone else said was that in GW2 there seems less times/situations where your char has to be setup with a certain build/skill to tackle 99% of the enemies.

Also for me atleast it seemed when creating a build and choosing skills you would always have to sacrifice something over another. Example I would have a heck of a time taking both hex/condition removal as well as have enough attacking skills on my main so I would have to always sacrifice 1 of them usually and just hope my heroes made up for it. Here with the intergrated hex/condition system that’s all out the window, again this adds to what I am saying in a way too.

However I still stand by what I said about minotaurs, even in a full group of heroes I would make sure that I would only engage one group if only there was not too many other groups around as without warning you could easily be hit with an additional 2-3 groups and be over run without too much warning. Note this was on 1 map in particular which I forget the name of but it was part of the EOTN.

I don’t mind the jumping system in fact I actually like it and have completed every single JP so far. However I MUST say that there seems to be a difference with the races and jumping that I have found so far.

My 1st 4 chars to hit 100% world complete were all Humans and I had little to no problems. My 5th (but second race) was a Norn who at first seemed a little bit trickier but I got him there in the end. Now I am doing my Charr and only have 5 PVE maps to go and 2 WvW…….

I swear jumping with a Charr is a royal pain in the backside 99% of the time. In the trickiest of spots you have to make sure you have your weapon is out so you can see where your feet are on a vertical angle, as being on all fours can really mess things up for you. So let me first say I have that part understood. Yet yesterday I swear I was so frustrated I was about to come here and rant like crazy because of the Vista in the Eternal Borderlands at the Green Keep. If my feet were not jumping high enough to get on one of the ledges my Charr’s shoulders were always hitting something above him. Why oh why did they have to make Charr so dang huge? They are based on cats after all not lions (imo/eyes :P) so they should have been a lot smaller. In the end a friendly mesmer came along, saw me struggling and offered me a portal (thank you again for that! ). BTW I should also say that I had NO problems what so ever on this vista with my humans and the mesmer who came along told me he could NEVER do this vista with his Charr either.

Summary, all races are NOT created equal when it comes to jumping challenges and even jumping itself imo.

What feature do you miss from your old MMO

This is actually the first MMO I’ve really played, besides Final Fantasy XI, and that was only for a few months.

I guess one feature I thought was cool in Final Fantasy XI, was that I could switch my character’s class (or job). So I could have one character that was a level 10 Red Mage, switch that same character to a Warrior, and level the Warrior job stating at level 1. All on the same character. That was pretty niffty.

I played FF11 for a little while too and it was nice that Job change system. You know FF14 does this even better right? Well it did before they pulled it to restart on it. Anyway the way it works was by the weapon you have equipped. Say you equip a sword you are a warrior and level up in that role, change to a staff or what not and you are a mage and start at level 1 in that skill. It worked really well and I originally had hoped this game would go down that road but nope seems like MMO’s these days are still stuck in the “gotta have alts to enjoy all the roles” mindset. :P

The one thing I miss more than anything belonged to Silkroad Online. The “trinity” job system. You had traders, hunters, and thieves.

Traders would travel from town to town carrying “goods” in order to sell them. The goods would rate from 1 to 5 stars and if you carried more than 2 stars player thieves could attack you. NPC thieves would periodically spawn to harass and try to kill the transport holding your goods. Depending on how far you took the goods your price would increase. Town 1 goods sold decently in town 2, but if you made it to town 3 they were worth SO much more. Adding in the “trading economy” where if a town was oversaturated with a certain good you wouldn’t be given as much this was extremely fun.

Hunters were the body guards of the game, hired to drive away both NPC thieves and player thieves. Not much to this but still insanely fun.

Thieves however, my favorite… you would don the pure black thief outfit that screamed death at the enemies. Roaming the countryside looking for hunters to kill was a blast. If you found a 2 star or above trader you didn’t even think about it. You looked at them, they looked at you, battle commenced. You would NOT let them go. After you killed them and their caravan you would summon your own transport and steal their goods. When you were all loaded up you would pop a “thieves portal” scroll. It gave you a 5 minute countdown. After that 5 minutes you would be teleported to the den of thieves to sell your goods. During that 5 minutes however, oh god…it was a free for all. You knew the trader was coming back to get his stuff. You knew he was going to hire a hunter to find you.

Objective 1: Hide
Objective 2: Prepare for battle
Objective 3: Learn when to cut your losses

It was an open world pvp system that wasn’t required to be done! This meant people who had no interest weren’t effected, yet it held dynamic game value. Who could resist the taste of easy money? God some of the fights would be so epic when you got full on job wars outside of towns. Or when a guild of traders would caravan together forcing thieves to group up and ambush them.

I really miss this and I would kill for anet to place this in the game. It was SO MUCH FUN.

This sounds totally epic. Man I think something like this could work really really well in WvW or perhaps a SPvP mode. Thanks for posting this here, I felt the tension and excitement just from the way you described it lol.

Well for a start from what I understand they are a small team. Add to the fact they made a ton off the intial sales I would say that alone should keep them going for a year or 2.

Then of course you can add to that the fact they have/had money from GW1 and also the sales in the Gemstore are always ongoing.

TBH to me it’s more “how could they not have cash?”

As for realism you may as will be asking for blood, severed body parts in combat etc and I doubt that will happen here…

1 – Mob drops every kill or there abouts.
2 – Variety in Mob drops including rare collectables or items that can be used in other skills/game content.

3 – Game content that is not 100% combat related or revolved around combat.
4 – Player owned houses and other personal systems that can be customized to reflect your char/personality/playstyle.

5- Minigames both in single/group settings and also semi minigame systems that players can do between themselves anywhere in the world such as dueling, playing a game of cards or something (possibly gained from those rare drops as stated above – think Final Fantasy and some of their collectable game card minigames for example).

6 – Wealth building in other forms besides just cash. That being said say if you wanted to gather 1000’s of a certain crafting material (example ore, wood) you could do so and not be hindered by bank space. 1 game I used to play you could bank an unlimited amount of such items in a single bank storage slot. Players could have say 1 million iron ores if they wanted to and it was not uncommon. :P

7 – Simple currency system, if you have 100 gold pieces it is 100 gold pieces not 100 silver or some other label. Ditto with a million gold pieces that’s what it is not whatever “gold” equivalent it is here. Keeps things more simple for me to place value on items…

8 – Combat music that didn’t annoy the crap out of me so much so that I never turn the game music on now and thus miss out on the rest of the music which is good.

The list goes on but escapes my mind for now :P

3 – Harpies (would be so cool to fly about :P)

As to the dwarf being a died out race problem, I see no problem at all with their return. After all even in GW1 the WHOLE world was never accessible only a small part of one continent and a couple of islands. Even looking at the GW2 map you can imagine that if the game lasted long enough plenty more of the world could be discovered as an actual full world being a globe. Who’s to say that there are not other dwarf settlement’s out there on the other side of the world?

Heck as far as we know their could be actual more advanced civilizations with actual governments waging wars with others. This game should go down this road in the future instead of giving us the typical dragon as the bad guys. We all know who the most dangerous “bad guys” or enemies can be – humans of course. But thats for another topic/discussion I guess. :P

You will be upscaled to 80 if you go there on a low level.

Well, it’s basically a new story. You will do events, completing achievements, perhaps getting a vanity item or so.

((Vanity Items)) Sorry, but what might those be? Really good items for combat or something like that?

Usually just unique looking items or skins for items. Flame and Frost gave a skin or such for a pair of Gauntlets.

I like the idea as well. Many times after completing a heart, I’ve thought “oh well, I’m not needed here anymore, even though the orchard is obviously still full of spiders or the cam kitten till overrun with centaurs.”

The only thought I would add is that the award for each incremental “help unit” (say, 10 more dead arachnids or 12 more bandits or what have you) should be small enough to avoid the inevitable heart camping that would occur otherwise.

evidently I need to rewrite my response because of foul language. I should have said that “centaurs still exist in the camp” I guess.

Oh I agree that the rewards should be so small so that you wouldn’t want to do these things over say an actual DE if it came up or to move on to the next heart if not done yet or map complete.

In fact I would go as far as to say perhaps this option does not kick in until the map is complete or even the world map to that extent. So that the intended purpose is actually done – have these things be something we can do AFTER maps/world complete and we can’t do any of them again unless starting a new alt of course.

I understand what you are both saying with regards to botting/abuse etc. Actually I had thought to post this a few days ago but held off due to thinking about that myself. After second thoughts tho I figured well people will always try to find ways to abuse the game and thus far Anet has done an excellent job dealing with it (from what I have seen). So I thought well we should NEVER let the potential abuse from others stop us from thinking of or adding new ideas/things to the game. Deal with those as/when they come.

Thanks for your replies so far.

Paulytnz.7619

So I have been thinking. After you complete a heart in an area you really get no reward for continuing to do what you did for beating the heart. Such as rushing into that centaur camp and smashing their weapon racks to pieces, stomping those plagued rats etc.

Now I know a lot of people would say well just don’t do it any further. My response to that would be but what if I find it fun to continue to still do it? Sure I could still do those things just for the fun and I do. But it’s always nice to be rewarded for “helping out those in need”. And honestly that’s the whole point of doing these things in the first place – to help the npc’s in the area that need these things done (while also getting to know the area/lore of course). Also if we continued to get rewarded for doing these things it just continues to give you that feeling that you really are helping these npcs out as the reward is the “thank you” from them.

I’m not asking for huge rewards, actually something really really small would be good enough for me. Say something like 1 karma for each thing done perhaps or another bar fills like the original would and once filled maybe a small karma or cash boost.

Now personally I am an altaholic and have 5 chars with world complete so far and working on my 6-8 getting there. While doing my alts I have been thinking to myself “this cash is pretty nice for completing hearts/maps but what then once all 8 chars have 100% complete?”. Will I stuggle to gain cash as easily? Perhaps this is why so many people say it’s hard to make cash because they don’t level alts and continue to get this cash from heart/map completes.

So again adding such a reward for continuing to do heart activities after the heart is complete could help there as well as give people incentives to perhaps go back to those areas and do things that they have not done for so long. Also MOST places are just totally pointless to visit again once the heart is done, this could totally change that.

In short, reward us for continuing to help out the inhabitants of the world and make it seem like we truely are making a difference. Turn these area’s mini quests into sort of mini DE’s in themself that we can muck about with while waiting for the real DE’s to kick in.

Thoughts?

PS Please do not put this thread in “sugestions” sure I might offer a couple of ideas here but the intent was more as a discussion to get an idea for the thoughts of others.

Thanks

All I can say is try a few different builds in WvW. If you do have all 8 classes you should be able to find 1 atleast you can do well with in WvW.

As for farming it does exist in this game, just not how people want it to is all. Farming by the old method of killing the same mobs in an area is not what they want but you can farm in other ways such as:

1 – Farm events.
2 – Farm Daily boss chests.
3 – Farm dungeons.
4 – Farm lvl 10 quest on alts (delete and remake) for bltc keys. this can be good cash if you get lucky. :P

O.O

Say what? I doubt very much that MF gear will be removed from the game. If anything they may alter it or it’s use in some way but again I say I highly DOUBT it will be removed.

According to a Dev in another post he said MF on gear is not something they want in the game. They want to make it innate stat you build over time. It will be leaving GEAR at some point, but not the game completely.

If they didn’t want it in the game they shouldn’t have put it in lol. Seems to me they are letting all the rants about it get to them. All they need to do is allow the stats of it to cover everyone in dungeons etc or remove it altogether from being allowed in dungeons.

I used to use MF gear on my main for about the first 2 months of game play. To me it seemed like “Risk vs reward” existed in the game via that gear as you had a lot less survivability. Now hoever I don’t give a toss about it or loot and just like to survive and kick backside so what you say they are wanting to do sounds good to me. But it does remove that risk vs reward element tho.

Hamfast.8719: Every thing he said – sorry could not quote the lot and add everything I said.

This is pretty much a huge reason I think a lot of people don’t do dungeons as well, myself included (for putting them off more than not doing them). I think the real problem is that in order to get the armours you have to run the dungeons so many times thus creating the “rush, rush, rush” attitude that we do see with the bulk of the community. Which of course puts some others off.

Ideally you would think well story mode would be good for learning the very basics since everyone doing story should be doing so only for that, the story since you can’t get dungeon tokens. Yet that is even hard to get into because obviosuly most people don’t want to do them because of the no token thing.

Perhaps the solution is to add a new mode, have it called “experiance”. Basically just have the dungeons exactly the same as explore but cutscenes are taken out. This mode would ideally be for the “farmers” and those experianced in the dungeon. It would speed up their runs and leave “explore” mode open for those who like to learn and go slow to totally enjoy the mechanics and story.

Also personally I liked dungeons more in GW1 and another game I used to play. Mainly because they were of the type where you walk in and clear room by room or area of monsters to reach the end boss to beat it. It gives you a sense of progression doing these types and not just running through mobs/avoiding this or that because it will kill you or slow you down.

Here we have respawning mobs, sometimes instantly and right on top of you and such other bad mechanics it can get just plain annoying and seem stupid and emersion breaking. Perhaps in future or a possibility of changing current dungeons for a new possible mode would be to have dungeons like that – clear out the enemies to proceed/succeed?

one of the towns in gendarren field is overrun with centaur, you have to secure 3 points and hold them, I managed to clear out one point with 5 normals and 2 vets, then more came including a champ before I could even start on another hold point. This is the most extreme one I have seen, but often times I am having to butt heads with an incredible amount of enemies just to have a town opened up, and the waypoints are always contested making porting around a total PITA on some maps

Oh I do know of this event and how problematic it can be when soling. TBH I think this one does not scale good at all with a solo person. Anet has a thread on one of these forums asking for players to post such events that don’t scale so well. I would suggest finding it and posting this info there.

Having said that tho you don’t have to complete this event to beat the game or get 100% map or to even level your char but I understand how frustrating it can be.

Actually re-thinking over this post/topic if you truely are having real issues with a few particular spots at the moment I offer my assitance in game. Feel free to add me to friend’s list and I will guest on your server or you on mine if you wish (I’m on Ehmry Bay), whatever works and I’ll assist if you really need it.

If it’s the game in general I would say it’s an issue with gear/build or knowledge (trying different things in the game to reach that short term goal) of the map/area in general.

Don’t get me wrong SOME events and places are tough but you can pretty much solo 99% of the maps and content in them. The 1% where you can’t there is usually a work around to clear the map and/or reach your goal such as that vista over there or that SP near that champ etc.

Uh, I’m pretty sure I can’t solo a champ+vet+5 normals, at least the normals respawn too. I can kill enemies fine, I can kite and kill groups of 5 or veterans with a couple adds, but I can only take so many at once, the town reclaims seem pretty crazy they often have like 10 enemies at once half with ranged attacks.

As far as guesting, well I don’t know people on other servers, nor do I have a clue as to how I would get to know people on other servers. “just transfer” is a bad idea because I shouldn’t be required to tansfer for normal gameplay not to mention that mindset only makes this issue worse, because people DO do that, which in turn causes the server issue to further.

Exactly which game content features this Champion with so many vets/adds are you talking about? Surely it must be an event probably a Meta. Being so it would not HAVE to be done/completed to beat the game/map achievement.

Having said this I have 5 chars now with 100% world complete and working on my last 3 classes now and I have pretty much soloed 99% of the content every time. The other 1% on atleast 4 of those chars there were as I said work-arounds. I don’t mention my first char as there was pretty much ALWAYS help when I got him there due to the fact the game was still very young and most maps were always busy with people.

Here here welcome to the light lol. I’m glad you stuck with the game long enough and joined that server/guild to find out this information and stick with the game in the end.

Having said that I myself could be clased as a hardcore MMO player (but I’m trying hard to change that) and I do still find myself playing this game 10+ hours a day at times. But I agree with what you are saying it is designed more for the pick up and play now and then players or those that go out of their way to find their own goals/fun hardcore players like myself.

Now as to your playing other games doing etc stuff when facing overload from this game I can again say you are correct. For myself it’s usually a new fresh game of Civ 5 or some other very old game I have been meaning to relive just for the heck of it. My last 2 week break (that I only just came back from 2 days ago) had me playing and GRINDING in 2 old genesis 16 bit games (Shining Force 1 & 2) lol. Maybe the Super Adventure Box egged me on to play something real CLASSIC like that again? :P

We need more servers!

TBH it really depends on how full the servers are actually at, at any given time with players being actually logged in.

If it gets to the point you can’t log in to your server because it’s too full THEN yes we need more servers. Until then no. People complain now the game is “dying” because they hardly see people in game in most maps. Imagine if they added more servers and people moved to those, it would be even more “dead”.

Not sure tbh as my Norn is a Warrior. He uses the spiritwolf summon for his elite. I usually prefer summons or in engis case crates. Forms seemed like a waste to me since they were what only 20 seconds or so and gave no extra targets for your enemy to hit.

But then again as I said I didn’t play with them much, I plan to in future tho.

What class is your Norn?

I will say this tho if I had to ever make another Norn tho I would probably go with thief for the thief summons lol.

Omg I didn’t realise I had 10 pages of replies lol took me a while to find it even. I blame Anet because I tried putting it in my signature but no matter what I tried it just wouldn’t work.

It’s a pretty old post now but I still use this build with maybe 1 minor change but I think if you are having probs with trying an engi or just want a different view on how they can be a good class/build then I do hope this helps you out, gl.

If cash is no problem then yeah buy maybe another pick or 2 lol. I bought mine simply for conveniance since I play my Engi the most. In future tho I may play my alts more not sure. For now I just start one at a time, get 100% world with him then move on to the next and giving the rest of my love to my engi lol.

Question

Paulytnz.7619

Since you last played I guess there has been an extra map or 2 added to pvp. Classes are still imbalanced and bugged somewhat I guess. Bots are a very RARE sight now and never was it 4 buttons to get to lvl 60, more like 5….

There have been a few other additions but by the sounds of things this game is probably just not for you. But I would certainly suggest (like Mirta did) that you just log in and see for yourself. Honestly what have you got to lose? If you have to re-download and install again however I can see how that could be a factor in which case I would say, meh never mind do what you wanna do lol.

Don’t worry the skritt you overheard was just myself and a friend having fun with skritt tonics! There is no underground rat colony in the sewers at all panning to take down LA and the elder dragons and enslave the whole of tyria for their sick, twisted plans of turning everyone into living shinies. Honestly theres not…..

TBH I only bought one of those picks (and yes I converted gold to gems to do so lol). I also spend real cash in this game and have spent a fair bit so far but wont buy anymore than 1 of those picks. Simply because I play on my main the most and don’t find using the other picks on my alts that too bothersome to do so.

To answer your question I would suggest thinking about how much time you will spend on each of your characters and if it really is that important to have the picks on them or even if it’s worth mining on those chars at all. In the end it’s your wallet that’s left empty or full so that’s up to you lol.

Also I expect but this is only my opinion here so don’t take it as a definate. That they will offer these picks or others similar in the future periodically so don’t worry too much about that. So you might want to think about that as well. After all you might not want to buy every char one of these picks to find out in 3 months time there is a new one with a newer animation and then want that one as well.

Oh don’t you just love vague companies and their plans lol?

Dungeons not for casual fun?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

I suspect those who quit doing dungeons fall into one of two catergories.

1: Those that find them too hard. I was sort of in this catergory myself the first few times I tried them. Most of these players are probably trying to do them in gear not suitable such as Magic find or full glass cannon. Sure DPS is great but you have to have some survivability as well. If no one does who will be left alive to res everyone?. So if you find it too tough try mixing your build/gear up a bit.

2: People who just find them plain boring after the first time through and who ususually don’t like grinding. I myself will probably stop after I have got the achievements for them all. I see no point in doing them. I don’t find the armours that appealing except maybe one set. Sure some people might say it’s good cash, well I play for fun and tbh I don’t find “rushing” the same content over and over and over just for some shinies fun at all. Especially when most just want to exploit, skip content or the other negative things I’ve seen when doing them on ocassion.

Well that’s my opinion, in my tired state of mind so I hope that perhaps sort of gives you some reasons why some people don’t like doing them lol.

No plans yet from what I have read but if the game continues to stay “alive” (which I highly expect it to) we should certainly see more classes/races in the future.

Besides the fact that they added more (classes) in GW1 with expansions it’s just logical to give more variety and ways for the game to add longivity for some of the players (altaholics).

Lastly I would like to say I have 1 char of each class and suggest you DO do it if you were thinking of it anyway. Also don’t forget to cover each race! Have fun.

Yes. For the first few months of playing this game I didn’t even KNOW there was day/night changes at all lol. The main problem is that unless you are specifically looking up at the sky you don’t see it because of the camera angle.

Regarding that pic from LOTR I would say that would be the ideal night time for GW2 in my opinion.

Engi can be great in PvP when you know what you are doing. I run an Engi as my main and so far I have 5 lvl 80s still working on the other 3.

My engi build works great in all areas of the game. Pve, sPvP and WvW, you can also throw dungeons into the mix too and I can solo a lot of champs too.

Check my posts if you wanna see my build.

Good Luck!

A Note about Phishing Emails

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

To avoid the emails about it – a trick i have learnt is to:

Right click the email (not the link, the actual email) -> then click “View message source” -> proceed to read until you find an IP Address (usually on the second line) and copy paste IP into google and search for the country it is from (most fakes are from China)

Hope this helps keep people from clicking false links!

Very handy info this is. I just did this with my most recent email from them and sure enough it is from China.

I can see the part that can trick a lot of people out there is that it shows that “noreply@guildwars2.com” sent the email which of course we know is bogus.
