This is the exact reason warriors can’t tank, and you only see viable builds involving some sort of DPS and/or condition stats. We only have one heal on a very slow cooldown, cannot give ourselves protection without there being some randomness factor, and we only have 2 condition removals, one of which is a heal. Our class isn’t built to last long fights like these above mentioned classes. I do think you’re forgetting heal-based guardians as well.

All in all, my biggest point is that in that minute that those other classes are able to heal for that amount and a warrior is not, our only option is damage or die. Build variety, people.

Every class gets only “one” heal UNLESS they build for more. Warriors can build for more. There is a trait that lets shouts heal. There you go 3 more heals for you.

I don’t mind GW2 being available for consoles. The only negative point I see is for PvP, since obviously playing with mouse+keyboard is way better than a joystick… so they would probably need separate servers for PvP.

You realise that consoles can easily add a keyboard and mouse these days right? Apart from that some of us find using a controller a heck of a lot easier or a combo of controller/mouse. Example for FF14 I would use my left hand for my controller and my right hand for the mouse, it worked amazinly well.

i m afraid by this… brrrrr !

console players in mmo are fast-fooder and hack n lasher(dc universe like)

They don’t know what teamplay means… CoD make me laught

save gw2, save it from console attitude..or bring us hardmode pleaseeee

but yes the support media is nice, i agree

This is not true at all. Both Final Fantasy 11 and 14 online had console/ps players playing alongside and together perfectly fine. FF14 had NO competitive play whatsoever but I’m not so sure about 11.

If anything the type of console players that you are talking about would become fly by nighters and leave the game quicksmart. Meanwhile players like myself who own and play on both console and PC’s will have a choice which system to play on. Also those who only own a console but who like to play games like myself can then get to enjoy GW2 and could easily become long time players.

I’m scared now, I think you might have just given them ideas for future “fixes”…..

Also in my opinion I think they got ranging mobs backwards (well rifle users anyways) they fire too fast, when you have a group of them it’s a very tricky situation. They should fire slower but more powerful imo….

I had no problem after the June 11th patch but since the latest patch to fix the issues with the June 11th patch I can not log in. All I am getting are the messages saying can’t access login server bla bla.

I had issues with my support account recently and had my passwords reset for it as well as my forums/game log in, perhaps the game is not checking properly somehow with regards to all that?

Also I am noticing when trying to log in and upon failing the game is not saving my password, the field just sits blank, maybe this has something to do with it too?

Or is it just backed up servers due to everyone still downloading this latest patch?

… there’s no reason to be re-exploring the open world on an alt since it’s no fun and zones are all dead.

This is where your entire post breaks down. The assumptions that every zone is dead and that no one could conceivably enjoy single player / small-scale multi player are wrong.

Uhh, no, it isn’t. Because no one does unless its their first character. Also, you can still enjoy dead zones at level 80.

Funny I have 6 chars so far at 100% world and still 2 more to go that I plan doing, so you sir saying “no one does unless its their first character” are simply wrong.

It’s not all about cash/fast levels you know….

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

No not yet. Sorry but there is still a lot of polishing that needs to be done first before they bring in new content that will also probably need polishing due to bugs and unforseen situations. Some of the things we still need polished:

1 – Water combat.
2 – ALL bugs with regards to classes, their skills fixed and those skills working as intended.
3 – Balances to all the classes in both Pve and PvP.
4 – Some dungeons still need work on them and balancing.
5 – sPvP/tPvP still needs more modes.
6 – Some world events still need polishing or more added for variety. I complete an event when leveling new alts and save the day, go into some cave not too far off for that 1 poi or SP come back some 10 mins later and the exaact same event again! Hello what did I just waste 5-10 mins soloing this event for!? This makes my effort all seem like a waste and the cash reward you get for it is not worth the time, not good….

Theres more but I can’t think of it all this soon after waking. :P
Having said all that however of course they should and ARE adding new/more content while working on all these things I just said. However I do not support they should fully throw all of their resources to new additions simply because people demand it.

i have some friends that play gw2 that doesnt come to the game anymore because they have nothing to do in the game

I think this is everyone’s friend list atm. Mine is a ghost town most of the time these days, but don’t get discouraged. Stick it out for a while longer, I have a feeling we may be getting some content with some meat on it coming down the pipe soon.

I try to give MMO’s the benefit of the doubt these days. I’m giving Anet a few more months of me doing the daily and WvW. By then they should have more in game for us to do I believe.

Maybe you just make friends that play the same way you do. And I make friends that play the same way I do, because my friends list hasn’t substantially changed at all…except that it’s grown. Most of the people here at launch are still here.

How much do they pay you by the way? I may change my tone if the price is right too.

If they paid me, I probably wouldn’t work this hard. That’s like asking a football fan how much the team pays him to be a fan. Silly question when you think about it.

This is exactly right, I have seen multiple people ask him the same question, I think Vayne is just an Anet employee using a basic email account to post on the forums. He never criticizes anything anything about Anet or NcSoft, just sticks up for them and he spends way to much time in the forums to be in game…

How much would you like to bet that I never criticism anything about the game or Anet?

Would you like to put money on this?

You are definitely an employee, are you just a moderator, or are you that kitten Colin, you do nothing but post on the forums so you have to be an employee, you post in almost every topic.

Freaking Anet Employee Troll, get back under your bridge.

Naw real Anet employees wouldn’t have the time/patience or energy to post as much as Vayne does!

Speed in GW2.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

I agree with most people’s thoughts on this with regards to combat speed. I also have another issue with some of the speed improving skills we have. 2 classes for example have skills that are meant to SPEED you up yet using them does speed you up but can ALSO just lower your speed again, like this for example:

Ranger warhorn speed buff: If you have auto attack setup in settings or whatnot using this skill will make you attack any creature nearby even those friendly/peaceful moas grazing nearby because the game considers this skill a combat one first and a speed burst second.

Guardian staff speed boost: You are in WvW minding your own business and then uh oh an enemy zerg! Quick turn and flee for your life! Alas this is an area effect skill and using this and then walking over it will indeed speed you up but as soon as the enemy also walks into it (assuming you have some trait that makes it effect enemies as well I think in some manner) the game will then consider this land effect an aggresive action and decide to throw you into combat thus lowering your speed again…

You just can’t win in certain situations.

Catering to Casuals is Ruining GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

I don’t know why all you “hardcore” players see “casual” play as the enemy or a bad thing.

I am far from a casual player myself as I spend too many hours here every day yet I still think the game is GOOD and one of the best available and I pretty much ALWAYS have something to do in game. If not I take a break and do/play something else for a while/change. Breaks are good you know!

You say there is NO content for hardcore players? This is so not true. When systems are in the game such as WvW and sPvP there is ENDLESS content you just have to decide if you enjoy DOING that content or not. You know play the game for actual FUN and not for a carrot at the end of a stick.

Don’t give me any nonsence that you have to do x 1000 hours or y a 1000 times to earn a reward to be considered 1 of the best players because that is just a delusion. Trust me I used to play another game (for 10+ years) where this was the mindset and focus and after so long doing that you soon realise it’s not a form of fun but if anything a form of slavery or a drug to feed YOUR addicition.

My opinion, Anet has got things right in trying to bring back the FUN to games and this is so important in todays gaming reality when we live in the Xbox/Ps3 console gaming era where it’s all pick up and play online gaming fun.

I don’t know guys but after watching that vid I think weapon skills should ALL do away with cooldowns and be put on an inititve type system like the Thief class……

Keep healing and utility skills with cooldowns however.

Really I see no real point for cooldowns on weapon skills, if they REALLY need to limit some of the skills for them they could just add longer cast times.

Oh and as for the outgoing damage in this vid and how quick things died, I see it exactly like this when playing in starter zones lvl 1-15 on any of my level 80s so maybe for the purposes of this video that’s what they did.

I think the problem here is them showing the combat level of said champ. They should remove it so you know it’s a bad kitten and going to be a tough fight. Having said that there are a LOT of champs out there that you can beat solo no matter how much they down scale you to. You just have to find out which ones and make sure your build can handle it.

Yesterday I went through testing all of the champs in Gendarrin Fields (I am testing all champs 1 map at a time solo) and managed to beat 11 of the 12 I tried. The Troll (I think it was) in the SW swamp area just hit too hard and the spider in the mini dungeon thing I did not try because I opened the chest so the door was closed behind me and I didn’t want to waste time going through all those traps again lol…

But yeah, make sure you have a solid build and try, try, try because there are a lot you can solo, just IGNORE the combat level above it’s head and focus on that “CHAMP” title.

worst drop in the game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

For me the worst drops are those we get in high level areas that you can get in the lowest areas. Those being:

Crab meat (or whatever it is)
Meat
Eggs

There are other’s I am sure. We should NOT be rewarded with crap worth something like 2 copper each in a high level zone. If anything they should give us multiples of these items so that the total value adds up to the lowest valued item of the other trophies in the same area. So I should think 8 eggs or 8 Moa meat would be appropriate off the top of my head.

Actually almost no MMO offers housing. Everquest II and …. not much else.

Most of them say they will pre-launch and then fail to deliver…

Its really disappointing. I’m with the OP on wanting housing, but I don’t think we should claim its a common feature when it isn’t.

We have a home instance which is more than most. But its still a sadly underused feature…

I’m sure I’m not alone in being the sort who would glady buy loot off the gem store to decorate my home instance for… no rational reason at all… other than to do it.

I remember being so excited on launch day when I saw the human home instance the first time. I ran up three floors of one little house in there thinking of what I’d be able to decorate it with “soon.” Then reality checked myself and remembered no such feature had ever been promised.

Final Fantasy 11, Runescape, I heard LOTR also so there are a few out there. Agreed tho I want houses in GW2.

From experiance as you get to the later maps they need you to rely on one of 2 things:

1 – Playing in groups.
2 – Playing in non glass cannon builds with a means to do AOE damage to fight the groups you will encounter.

There is a 3rd option which is to completly ignore mobs and run through them or if a thief to stealth your way through. However I don’t believe that A-net wanted this to be a viable option. :P

Summary: build your character to handle groups of mobs because that’s what you will face more often than not. You can notice this a lot too during the personal story.

The reason why repair is necessary in WvW is that there is nowhere in the game without a gold sink that allows you to make money. And there’s not enough of a gold sink in WvW without repair, nor is there an attrition mechanic.

You have no teleport costs. You can get armor and weapons with badges. You can make money from events and killing things…but where are the gold sinks and attrition mechanics?

These two things are necessary for MMOs to function long term, even though they can feel unnecessarily punishing to those who experience them.

How about in the insanely expensive siege weapons that are necessary for the mode?

I agree with you that WvW needs gold sinks, possibly many more than it currently has. But repair costs completely destroy the game mode and need to be removed. I was just playing a level 35 engineer in GREENS in WvW this morning; excepting when within a zerg I saw more people run away from a fight with me than engage me. Why? The 50/50 chance of getting a badge or two isn’t worth the repair costs that a fair fight could incur. And that’s why nobody does ANYTHING in WvW without a severe advantage over their opponent. Nobody takes ANY risks, EVER.

There need to be gold sinks in WvW, but those sinks should not discourage combative and even-handed play. And that’s exactly what repair costs do.

Wow if this is true I would like to know what server you are on. Because it does not sound like it would be one with any action at all or of the top tiers….

The repair costs are nothing considering you can make cash so easily from all of the events. I might die and clear another 5-6 events (making 1 silver+ from each of them) before I have another death again. I am a commander too so I am usually leading the charge and at the forefront of the fight so yes I am in harms way a lot of the time.

Also what Vayne said about the no teleporting cost is true and I have often thought on this and thought they made the right desicion there.

Now if we want to talk costs in WvW the one I would like addressed is upgrades for towers/keeps etc. They really NEED to add a cash deposit box to these places so that once they are taken the group that took them can have the choice/option to ALL add a small amount of cash to pay for any upgrades (example each person could say add 2-10 silver etc or such). This would be a much better/fair system RATHER than the current one where ONE individual person pays for a whole upgrade.

Believe it or not I’m on Yak’s Bend, ranked 9th of the 24 US servers, not all that far from the top.

You know I guess on second thoughts busy servers with a lot of zerg on zerg action could actually make people more aware of the dangers of going into certian situations and thinking twice about it.

I guess it’s a risk vs reward thing. Personally tho I rush in even if my group looks to be out numbered 2, sometimes 3 to one if I feel it’s important enough or if there is a chance at success. After all with a good build, practice and skill as well as hoping your allies can back you up even if you are at the losing end there is a good chance of falling back until more come to help or at the worst take that death/loss and try again. It’s all good fun regardless lol!

Back to the subject on hand tho. I think the cost of armour repair is fine. We as individual players just have to be more aware of the dangers/chances of our deaths and have to keep aware if we are up in cash or down since our last death. I can tell you tho I usually leave WvW the days I do play it up an extra gold or a few. I never leave at a loss and as I said it’s all good fun.

Soo…are you guys going to issue an objective complaint about the mechanics of the game or just make sideways complaints about ‘fun’ and ‘fairness’?

Let me ask you a question:

Which of the 2 below would you find more fun/challenging?:

1 – Walking into an area where there is just one type of mob who has 1 skill that will make you lose control for a set period of time. You know what’s coming, how to deal with it and you know if you continue to fight this said mob it’s going to be the same exact thing every single fight unless confronted by more than one of them when it will be just an added spamfest instead.

2 – Walking into an area where you can see there is a mix of perhaps 2-3 different mobs which all have different skills which could make you lose control of your character for a set period of time. You know fighting just one on your own should be no problem but you are aware that each different fight may be slightly more challenging depending on what each mob brings to the fight so you have to be prepared for any single one of them. But what if you get into a fight with multiples of them? You have to be more strategic, more skillfull to take out first the most dangerous to you and then deal with the rest. You have to be fully contentrated in what you are doing and be slightly more reactive to the situation as it changes.

It is clear to me which would be more fun and challenging depending on the situations, level of mobs and player skill of course. But hey that’s just my opinion, perhaps some people just want less of a challenge/diversity. Perhaps they have found a simple way to ignore these mobs and what they bring to the table and thus don’t fear them anymore? Perhaps it is THEM who don’t want a more fun/challenging game?

Knock backs?

You guys are talking about game balance and such which I find funny. Considering some of these knockdowns can have you down for 5 seconds yet when my warrior uses his knock down it is for a measly 2 seconds if even that. Also the cooldown on my skill is like 3 times longer than any enemy mob cooldown. Yet you say the combat system is all balanced with regards to this?

The problem is not that we get knocked downed or lose control of our character. The problem is the way that they have distributed mobs and the skills that they have and how they use them. For example you get something like a devourer which can knock you down. Not one “type” of devourer like you get when dealing with humanoids who all use different weapons thus they have different skills/combat mechanics.

So you get into areas with these types of mobs and if over run can get into the problem of continued loss of control of your character – NOT FUN. Also like some of you even agree most times you wont die or be at risk of dying (depending on build/class/player skill) so what then is even the point of it all besides just annoying the heck out of us?

All I ask for is more diversive skills to non humanoid mobs as well as placement of them with other mob types so combat is not so repetitive/annoying with these types of mobs when in their areas. Hopefully too this could ADD more of a challenge and exciting combat system/mechanic rather than just the “oh noes not an area with another knockdown mob – time to just run through or ignore them because they are so boring/time consuming to deal with” moment.

Nope that’s how it’s meant to be. :P Charr lands are plains with some woods, Asura jungle/swamp, Norn mountainous, Slylvari same as Asura and humans open grasslands with the odd mountain/hill/swamp here and there.

Ps if you see a hoard of centaurs coming run to the hills, run for your life!

use a stun breaker and most mosters with knockbacks are really animated/telegraphed so you can dodge/walk your way out of the knockback.

Not so when facing multiples of them, you may dodge one or 2 but it will only be a splt second before more come in and how many times can you use your stun breaker and then have to wait for cooldown?

It’s not as simple as you make it sound to be.

May I know what mob this is? Even if you’re facing multiples of them, you still should be able to kite, dodge, and stunbreak their knockbacks/knockdowns. Try practicing on the group of ettins (i forgot the place x.x somewhere in kryta iirc). I can usually take on 2-3 mobs with knockback with my lowbie, but you do need to keep on moving, going around in circles, etc.

Also, not all mobs have knockbacks. In fact, maybe a few handful of them only have it. For all the species of branded/inquest/bandit/separatist/flame legion, only 1 out of the 4-5 different types do the knockback.

I’m not going to list the multiples of different creatures that have knock downs or knock backs, theres far too many.

I certainly don’t need to practice on Ettins either as I have completed this game and world complete 5 times already. Besides that Ettins have the most easily and avoidable knockback anyway, not so with many others. There are some mobs out there that have these skills and it’s not even in the mobs description.

My point is there are far too many cretures with these same skills over and over and over again. If you do (and can easily sometimes) get crowded by a bunch of them you can easily feel like a rag doll in a push/pull match. Heck in some cases even just one single enemy can do this to you. Here’s one reference I will give:

Go to the Queensdale jumping puzzle and go to the last room with the chest, just stand near the Vet Ooze for a bit or fight it for a while and don’t kill it too fast and you will see what I mean. It pushes you then a split second later it will pull you back to it. That’s 2 cc’s in an almost 1 move and it can repeat this quite often when it feels like it. Luckily I have a strong build and have a trait set that puts protection on me when I’m knocked down or what-not but that does not change the fact it’s a boring/cheap mechanic that offers little challenge or fun. Now imagine this same mob x a few others with it all with the same skills – it does happen in some places.

No you are right……….

Too many different creatures have knock backs and of course when ganged up by just a few of them you can be disabled for some time and this REALLY takes the fun out of the game. It does not make the game difficult or a challenge as Anet might believe it does it just makes it dang frustrating and stupidly boring.

Yesterday I happened to be in a fight with 4 creatures who were all knocking me down, that was not fun but I still over ran them in the end.

They really need to take into account each enemie’s skills with regards to skills like these when deciding mob placement. Or they could actually work on synergy between said creatures in areas rather than just give the same creatures the exact same skills and just copy and paste them in a certain area. Pure laziness…..

What to do? Simple, have FUN. So having said that no one can tell you what to do because only you know what’s fun for you. Explore all of the game, by that I don’t mean getting 100% world I mean trying everything to see what’s most fun for you.

You can try WvW, SPvP, jump puzzles, mini dungeons, other achievements, Dungeons or just muck about roaming the zones helping out random people while mindlessly killing things. Tip about your Karma tho, save it and you can buy some rare or exotic gears, personally for my alts I save it all up for level 80 and get Power/Toughness/vitaly gear from WvW. Good, cheap gear until I can make exotics for them.

We must do something about this! This is an outrage! I will write a letter to my congressman DEMANDING that something will be done, because the Asura are small and therefore must be children therefore exposed breasts on female asura is child pornography! ArenaNet will be prosecuted most harshly for this egregious injustice, this CRIME AGAINST NATURE!

Your support is most appreciated as well! Writing a letter to your congressman should help resolve the situation. No congressman wants to miss the opportunity to make good publicity though shutting down child pornography.

So now Asura are children? I should think THAT would offend many people.

but “Realism” in a fantasy game, makes no sense.

To a degree it does, but as I said I’m with you on this. :P

I’m with you on this but I have a feeling people could reply back with it’s for realism. Example the elixir gun shows it has the liquids in the pack on your back and I’m sure it’s the same with the flamethrower etc.

Yet if we were to defy all of that “realism” nonsence I could see anet coming up with simple solutions easily.

Oh one last thing I would like to say is the Jumping Challenges I find in this game (be it the puzzles, vistas and some of the skill points) remind me a heck of a lot of an old, old, old game I used to play on the genesis called “Landstalker”. I swear someone in the Anet team used to be a fan of that game I just know it.

Can I please have confirmation on this from someone who designs or came up with the jumping challenges idea lol?
