Not in Anet’s view it is. Sorry if that’s the kind of game you are looking for you couldn’t have found the worst game for it. :P
Yeah, choose a band you like for example and choose your fave song name of theirs. If you need to change password again choose another band and again choose their fave song of yours for a password name. I’m sure EVERYONE can think of many examples like this where passwords can be easy to remember by basing them on something such as this.
HC was fun in Diablo. There was a problem with death by d/c which would also be a problem in this game. The main problem I would have with it here is that death can be one or two shot out of the blue. In D3 once they toned down the affixes elites could assume fight outcomes generally depended on player skill. GW2 has combat mechanics that introduce random death much too often for a harcore mode to be successful imo.
And, the reference by Oldsarge above about aggro switching is actually a sport in HC—it’s called PKing (Player Killing) and it occasionally rises to an art form. It’s a form of non-consensual PvP and only really finds full expression in HC.
I could also imagine people griefing others by simply not resing downed players when they could/should just for the hell of it. No sir this sounds too much like something that griefers would get a huge kick out of.
Really poor decision by someone at Arenanet. However, I will continue to play on all my characters. They will just progress slower than the person that plays on the same character. I like variety in my game.
As much as I’d like to think myself of the same mood, I can see myself quickly shelving my alts since any time on them would feel like time away from my main character. I wouldn’t care much about titles and all of that, but any current or new currencies for any current or future stat progression would pretty much settle the matter.
Honestly I don’t care at all about WvW rank. I think most WvW players want is actual progression instead of all this fluff. Personally I think there should be ways to get Ascended gear with badges. Honestly many people in WvW stuck it out this long with hopes of this. Another path ANET should have taken is actually rewarding the top servers/winning servers with even better loot while in WvW. Yes it got much better, but compared to PvE its still lacking. One idea that I really would like is if guilds could earn guild tokens and the guild leader could assign them out in a max of two a week per person to the guildies working the hardest….probably would actually see people dedicated to defense because they knew their guild leader appreciates it. That progression would have been much better.
So many ideas.
There def needs to be more rewards/incentives for defending in WvW. Heck the defenders are ALWAYS at a disadvantage from my experiance. Not even a dang backdoor to get into defending castles etc. This is the main reason most people don’t even bother to defend, it’s easier to zerge/capture and a lot more rewarding.
Anet needs to SERIOUSLY look into the defending and holding of towers/keeps etc as well as the rewards system for doing so.
Ummmm my counter question could be would it really be too difficult just to check the site once a day or whatever, perhaps just before logging in or out for the day? Honestly I can’t imagine this being a feature we would need to check too often to warrant it being done so ingame.
Heck even just accessing the Trading Post for me has problems sometimes and this uses the type of system you are asking for. I get the message sometimes that I have to be logged in to access the TP. Hello I AM logged in obviously and PLAYING the game if I am trying to open the TP. So this just tells me they have issues already as it is with these type of systems in place within the game.
Not sure if you are asking for this to be implemented by the devs or simply just something players should strive to shoot for themselves. If the dev’s side this wont happen, this is not that kind of game. Besides with the way this aggro system works it would probably be impossible or very unfair for those players like myself who are ALWAYS public enemy no.1 in events (especially champs) and dungeon boss fights because of my Toughness/Damage output/Other variables that this system uses for aggro that always works against me.

The thing I don’t understand is that they say they want us to try different classes for different roles right? BUT then they go on to say that in time we will unlock ALL the role rewards anyways. So to me this would mean we would want to roll just 1 char to unlock ALL those role rewards faster.
Not sure but I think that’s what I would probably do. Especially since right now I am seeing that some classes are just better than others the way they are in WvW (cough Ele’s who can easily wipe out siege from walls and who can damage defenders on the walls who can’t return the damage unless right at the edge and even then are “obstructed” alot anyway cough)
TBH if you are trying to use the same password someone else has used before I would say that your security measures are not so great…..
Try the same password but simply just throw some numbers onto the end and it should be problem solved.
Hmmmm so you want to show off huh? Well my ranger can make cheeseburgers and french fries – beat that! :P
Ummm they really are not instanced as such. They are if anything just small open world maps.
Another thing is you really wouldn’t be able to climb those mountains too high or go too far anyway because there are invisible walls at the edge of the maps and there is a “ceiling” height wise. When I explore the maps I always find spots where you just physically can’t walk anymore due to hitting an invisible wall and you can’t go any higher because you can tell the game just wont let you. A good way to know if you can’t go beyond a certain point or height is to play on an Engi and try using their rifle skill 5. Aiming it on any area where we can’t physically go due to being too high or off the map will not highlight up.
It’s just the way they made the game and we are stuck with it now. To get what you are asking for would require a whole world map overhaul which I doubt they will do. This is also a reason why we wont get flying mounts either because the height of the world really is just not so high, well not compared to other games like Perfectworld for example anyways. There you can go far far far above the clouds and even large cities on the map soon look like ants in the distance.
Lastly I too would like something that you are asking for but right now it’s just not really possible.
I guess they could start to make much larger maps. Would be nice if they were not so cluttered with stuff all over the place too and have a lot more open areas or forests etc.
i didnt know what to call them so i just refereed to them as instances
.
i wouldnt say there is a ceiling bc u can climb higher on the volcano in mount maelstrom then u can climb those “mountains”. they just have these barriers in place so we cant pass and glitch through to other or unopened areas. i think. haha
yea, i know they will never do this but i just wanted to see other ppls opinions on this topic. it would be awesome if we could get that high, like in perfect world, where u look down and everyone/thing look like ants.
the idea of a really large map would be awesome. but i can see them making a area like that but as boring as southsun cove. guess we’ll have to wait and see. thanks for the reply though i really appreciate it
I’m sure I have actually hit the invisible ceiling before while being in some very high spots. Usually in hidden places where jumping puzzles are located at. My char even couldn’t jump I think because his head hit the ceiling, I’m sure of it lol.
I do know about the volcano and how it seems a lot higher than most of the other places. Perhaps they could just make a whole mountainous region. I know the map where the Priory is located sort of fills this request but I don’t know. Back to that volcano, anyone else feel like you are Frodo just about to throw the ring into the mountain just as you reach the top lol? O.O
Anywho gl with this post.
So the problem is you can’t complete WvW because the enemy always outnumbers you? If this is the case give it time your world will be put into an appropriate lvl tier for wvw for even battles.
I have had 100% world complete on my main for about 5 months now and there was only 18 WP’s for this map. However they keep adding new wp’s to various maps so I’m at 99% again because of this map. You wil have to go back to this map like I will and actually find the wp, it wont show up until you get there.
i play for pretty much 10 hours a day if i have time so far ive got 800 hours :x no life haha oh well
You say you have “no life”? Nonsense mate, you are a player – players have many “lives”.
Not gonna say how long I spend here each day the days that I do play but I will say it’s usually long enough to clear a map and do whatever else I feel like doing.
Ummm they really are not instanced as such. They are if anything just small open world maps.

I wouldn’t worry about this too much as I’m sure when the future parts of this come out and an inevitable attack on that gated area happens the mass killing of them all will probably count.
I remember camping those gate/door things at the xmas event killing the amount needed for that title only to find out a few days later when they released the maze place that killing them all there still counted.
Hmm reminds me of the “good old” days in Runescape……
I gave up on that game after playing it for 11 odd years on and off coming here thinking “hooray for no more grindiy games!”
Seriously tho I think these numbers are simply an oversight or were thrown together and purposly put at these crazy numbers until they get around to making the achievement points mean something or adding in extra tier titles etc.
6 months later however perhaps Anet just forgot about it.
Sadly I think the only option here is to have all American players join the EU server or vice versa…
I really can’t see Anet doing anything to fix this. It seems they have gone this route for such reasons as storage spaces etc or some such thing. I’m not too up to play on all that technical side of things but there seems to be some reason they are keeping the 2 sides seperate.
I hope it all works out for you.
I think the problem here for you is the fact that the game map is not all instances anymore. There were less towns/outposts in GW1 because they were mainly at the before or end of an area which was 1 big instance.
And when I say big instance I really mean big. They were alot bigger than say an area like Queensdale or any other in GW2 are. You ALSO had to actually FIGHT your way through them inch by inch which was a very strategical/fun thing to do. Sadly a lot of that is missing in GW2.
Whenever I reached a new instance I would force myself not to leave it until I unlocked every area of it by scraping the walls/killing every creature and then scraping the walls of the inner objects of the inner map too. This is in the end of course is how I managed to get all explorer titles…
For me you are in melee range if the enemy is meleeing you. A good example would be say an Ettin with a club or a wolf biting you. If you are there with Daggers as an Ele hitting a wolf and it has to run up to you then no imo you are not in melee range until the wolf reaches you.
I also have an Ele and when I tried the daggers I was a bit disapointed that the skills were still “magical” and were not more “melee” and had to be closer.
No they havn’t added it, and they havn’t said if they will or not either.
However if you do a search here you will find a post or 2 from some players who have done this for the xbox gamepad. Personaly I tried it the first time they mentioned it and I had problems getting it to work correctly so I havn’t bothered with it since then.
I really DO hope that Anet can look at this and give it some serious thought however. I don’t think it would even take them much time to figure out how to do it and put it in place. I also know that gaming pads can be just as good (if not better in some cases) for these kinds of games. I played Final Fantasy 14 (online MMO) which had this feature and it worked VERY well.
Well the fact that they give us 4 FREE alt slots very much encourages us to go alting. I am sorry if YOU are in a hurry to reach end game just so you can do dungeons all over again for whatever reason. However personally for me I LOVE the fact I have to start from scratch on EVERY alt and slowly build up my power/skills with each char. That’s the main fun of it! It also makes me LEARN the class so much more this way.
I don’t know what your rush is tbh. Afterall you can do dungeons on your main and use the tokens on your alts. Why not just do this?
Ps Today I should hit 100% world on my 5th char/class and I don’t feel I rushed too much. I basically just start a char and complete every map before hitting the story. I have a lot of fun and a good learning exp doing this for the class as I said. So again I REALLY don’t know what your rush is. Stop, slow down, breath and ENJOY the game. Sheesh….
I’ve finally managed to resolve this.
I tracked the problem down to a hardware interaction with my logitech 5.1 speaker system.
A combination of factors was causing all output destined for the central channel to be replaced by a composite from the side speakers.
Turns out all the information for character vocalization is central speaker only I guess.
Well heck good work on this, now can you tell me how exactly I can check my setup for the same problem lol?
I have only just over a month or 2 ago started using my Guardian and Warrior and have noticed that I have this issue as well. It seems to be that if I do use a shout I can sometimes hear it very very low and it sounds wierd. But apart from that the other problem I have is that if I use a shout near other players it will instead have THEM say what I should.
TBH I think it’s a soundcard/Graphic card issue. My graphics card is up to date and so is my sound card so I have no idea why this happens…
Haha I start my Charr Thief in a couple of days time. Dunno why some of you think it’s an odd choice. Afterall if you take note of ANY type of cat creature in the real world they are one of the most graceful creatures you can find. Also don’t forget about the term “Cat Burglar”!
I remember reading in some other post that this is fine (Anet posted saying it was fine). So I went and gave my Guardian the Engineer backpack lol…
I always wanted the commando gear for that look, it’s the perfect one. Sadly it’s not available as far as I am aware for PVE.
Also the hat in the pic that I will show I believe is not the correct hat for this set but an error in the sPvP locker when I took these screenshots.
Good, I was waiting for something like this to happen and I think it’s a good thing.
Oh I think I know what that is – a bug. If you have the sound turned up you can hear the usual sound a skelk makes when it turns invisible. At that exact spot it repeats that sound over and over. So I am sure it is a bugged skelk in some shape or form. I reported it as such and I have also found the same thing on another map but I forget where that 1 was.
I think you’re right – those “leaves” do look awfully like a skelk tailfin!
It’s a pity, because this would be an awfully good and Guild Wars-appropriate-seeming way to add content (a beanstalk/vine). Perhaps the devs can take inspiration from this!
Sorry I ruined all your guys hope for such a cool add on.
But then again there is that floating city thing on that Queensdale map so perhaps there is still a chance!

Sky, I love your post.
To the first post, I think leveling another charater is interesting, I enjoy the story-line of the game personally, (atleast up to where it merges into one) After I hit 80, and did alittle crafting to 400, I made another charater a different race just to read there story, getting a legendary is quite time (and gold) consumeing so if your farm dungeons or something go for that.
Get all crafting professions to 400
Run around LA dropping bee hives (Saw someone doing that a few days ago made me laugh)
SPvP in truth, has no real rewards, but imo, its accually kinda fun, its like doing JQ (in GW1) all over againwhich alot of people did yet had no real rewards, other than a title (which SPvP has titles too so no real difference from the GW1 equilivent)
WvW, is something alot of people do, (I find it kinda boring, but to each is there own)
Do all the jumping puzzles in the game (If your bad at jumping bring alot of energy soda, something shinny to keep your attention, wear no armor, get a falling 50% damage decrease perk, and some headache meds and something to calm your throat from yelling “GOD kitten JP I HATE YOU!” 301 times.
Or go find all the easter eggs in the game, some of them are quite amuseing like the Zelda Chicken.
Why wear no armour? Death from falling does not damage your gear.
Dude your guild must be HUGE. If I asked mine if anyone had reduced salvaged ectos since last patch I would be lucky to get 5 people to answer me with a 322 person roster. But you got over 100 people to answer you?
It must be over 9000!!!
That sounds like a Guild issue to me. Why would you have 300+ people in a guild if they don’t even communicate what’s the point?
GW2 does not have zone specific music or night/day themes. Having harvested several GIG’s worth of WoW music, I can safely say that no game will beat it unless they do the same. Every zone (almost) had its own unique music, 1-4 day themes and 1-4 night themes, as well as special themes for zone quests or events/areas of note. GW2 has good music, but there isn’t nearly enough of it and it’s spread around too much. :?
Yup also from memory there was 1 or 2 pieces of the GW1 music that suited the areas perfectly because the zones were really dark. Also the GW1 game just seemed alot more darker than GW2 so again when I hear that particular piece of music it just does not fit.
GW1 had darker music and since GW2 is a how do I put it less darker game than GW1 perhaps the music should do more to reflect that. I’m going to turn the music on again and try and see if they are for certain areas and such so I can give better feedback here, if only they would let us turn off that annoying combat music tho!
Items makers needs love too if you make it so any one could just simply switch what on there armor the TP would fall apart. The way it is now there is an endless demand for new gear and it keeps the TP alive and there by keeping gold reverent to the game. In GW1 gold was very worthless until you had a lot of it and ppl went to more of an item base economically ecto (the only one i know of) a like like in D2 where SOJ where the means of buying and selling.
no, it would not.
people would spend more.
in my opinion, a lot of people are holding back from spending because of this issue.
i am one of such people.
i would prefer to buy a new character slot and roll a new character than buy multiple sets of armor just to have different builds for PvE / WvW.
i have 9 character slots at the moment though only 8 were used.
I agree with this statement. If anything I think people would actually spend MORE for these prefix items so that they can change their build on the fly to suit the needs of the situation.
Also crafters WOULD make more cash from this because they would be able to craft and sell the Prefix items. Like I said above I would imagne they would sell quiet well for the situations and even MORE so if they gave us the option to craft every stat combination like I suggested.
I think it may SEEM like it was nerfed due to the fact people are getting MORE items to salvage now. So of course with the more salvage attempts you are gonna see more failures. Btw I have noticed this myself.
Actually what the OP is asking for could actually be BETTER than using transmute stones.
Why?
Currently we are LOCKED in to specific stat bonuses for armours. Example:
Berserker: Power/Precision/Critical Damage.
Now what if I wanted Power/Toughness/Vitality? Currently this does not exsist as far as I am aware. They would have to add another named set and add it to the crafting tables. If they instead added items that let us choose which 3 stats we want for late game armour I think this would be a better idea for giving us more variety in stats/builds.
well actually ++power +toughness +vitality sets do exist though
If this is true name the set. I have lvl 400 in Leatherworking and have not seen this set yet.
There is:
Cleric’s – Power/Toughness/Healing
Knight’s – Power/Toughness/PrecisionThey are the only 2 that come close.
Soldier’s Gear. (it’s not craftable)
Wow why the hell do they hide these things away like this? If anything it’s things like this that just give my 1st reply here more credence. Why the heck should getting certain armour stats be a special mission in itself so that we can have the build we want so we can “play it our way”.
Imo crafters should be able to simply craft the basic gear as well as a prefix item that covers every single combination of the 3 stats.
Now imgaine doing a search for that lvl 80 armour you want to buy now just after hitting lvl 80. Doing a search for the armour will not result in HUNDREDS (cleric’s, beserker etc for all 3 weights) of variations as it currently does due to all of the named prefix sets. It would simply just have the set and thats it.
While I have come to really enjoy Guild Wars 2 and the new way of playing through quests and exploring an open world, there are some things that I still find lacking. One such thing is the atmosphere.
So what is the problem?
- I don’t know whether any of you have worked with 3D programs before, however, I am currently working with the open source software called Blender, but it is more as a hobby to me (I’m toying with the Game Engine and it’s quite fun, actually)
- Another Blender user and 3D artist Martin Upitis has created some very impressive work in Blender, and he explains how he believes that a game cannot rely on all the advanced texturing alone to be appealing, but rather the atmosphere.
- He has created a game using nothing but a testgrid as the texture for a track and then made a desert wasteland. He used a material to kind of color the desert to look like sand and he also uses programming to make, like, a sun that has a glow effect and other such effects to improve the ambiance, but anyhow all this lead me to saying that the game looked appealing and had a great atmosphere. (In about five days I think it was, he had conjured up this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTDOEVudDDw)- If you’ve ever played WoW, you might’ve encountered areas that had a certain atmosphere, really distinct when compared to some of the areas in Guild Wars 2.
I’m thinking about Duskwood in particular, where the look, the sound and the music really supports the mood.- I’ve made a thread before about the music in Guild Wars 2, and while it is amazing and suits a lot of different moods and atmospheres, it is, sadly, not used to its full potential.
- I hope the dev team takes these words into consideration to improve on their game, because it is great but can, of course, become even better.
Feedback is, as always, welcome and feel free to post some of your pictures of areas that you might’ve found to set an atmosphere and that might’ve really made an impact on you.
- I know I’ve seen some beautiful sights in the game.
I think a big part of the problem here is that most of the music (if I remember correctly) or atleast some of it was directly ported over from GW1. I remember playing GW1 and the music for the most part seemed right atmosphere wise. That is until you got into combat and just like here then you LOSE that immersion of the area you are in and it just becomes the same old boring combat music (which I REALLY wish they would give us an option to turn off).
As for here when I do have the music on (which is not often because of that dang combat music once you fight 3+ mobs) it just does not seem right. Maybe because I was too used to that particular piece of music (when the GW1 music plays) from GW1 being in certain areas there I’m not sure but again it just does not seem right.
Also I remember playing in the Norn area and hearing that “classical” piece of music for the first time and it just didn’t seem to fit for me. Sure it was a nice change from the others but as I said it just did not seem right. Then again maybe this is the reason I want a quaggin for my huge Norn warrior……
Yes I would play in an underwater map. So far out of my 5 classes that I have played 4 of them are pretty decent underwater I could even say they are good. The other one is not too shabby either. I think most people just need to learn what skills works best for them underwater and make sure to keep their weapons/mask up to date.

Anyone else miss the map scraping of GW1? Where you had to uncover every area for the title of Legendary Cartographer.
It was great.
HELL NOOOOOOO!
2 things that I am glad are missing from this game that were in GW1:
1 – Map scraping.
2 – “You have been playing for 1 hour please take a break” another hour goes by “You have been playing for two hours please take a break” 10 hours later “You have been playing for 12 hours please take a break”.
SHUT UP I was taking breaks I was just afk sheeesh!
Its a myth. On my alt is shout warrior with full soldiers gear and soldier runes and i really have to put a lot of effort to make mobs attack me cause they just go for squishies while ignoring me.
It’s not a myth. I have read recently that the enemy AI chooses who to target based on a few variables. Toughness is one of them. I myself also see that I am public enemy no.1 a lot in Champion fights and dungeons which I put down to my toughness gear and precision mainly.

Bah can’t quote now for some reason.
I was just going to say that GW1 for me the Vabbian or sunspears expansion pretty much any part of that side of the world for me felt more African based from Human history or a mix of Africa and the middle east. So when I thought of the paragons (spear throwers) I would always think back to African warriors such as Shaka Zulu etc.
You can never have enough range classes in this game because honestly EVERY class is Melee or Range to a degree. There is nothing new they could really add that is NOT range or melee. Oh wait I guess they could add a pokemon system where we control noob pets but that’s just………. :P
Anywho for me paragon would again just like GW1 would be a mid range and I only brought that idea to this post because my idea is that it would/should be a heavy class. Seem they had planned for Engi to be heavy but changed it (probably because they figure Engi should have the trenchcoat look) they could add the Paragon as a sort of replacement.
As for Dervish I doubt that would be a heavy class, if added probably another Medium or more likely Light.
(edited by Paulytnz.7619)
Yes get those boxes so you can get even MORE karma!
This is pretty much the same thing as the Invulnerable thing. Basically they added a range limit so that a monster wont chase you forever if you don’t want to fight it. Seems like you just ran too far from the Boar’s spawn point.
All I can suggest is to next time try and kite around it in a circle or just stand there and absorb the blows if you can (I can solo this Boar pretty easy and it takes no longer than 5 mins to die for me just standing still).
My guess is that if the Paragon class made a comback from GW1 that it would be a Heavy class. It would have spears (already in game as water weapons) for a mid range weapon as well as the usual other melee for the heavy classes I assume.
This is the next class I HOPE that we see.
Paragon’s already been absorbed into the Guardian. Guardian’s essentially a melee hybrid of Monk, Ritualist, and Paragon.
Bringing Paragon back would make it overlap way too much with Guardian.
I’d rather see something different, something the existing pair of soldiers don’t do. A Battlemage or Spellsword sort of class might be fun.
I don’t agree. The guardian is one of the poorest classes with range in this game. Imo the Paragon could be a good mix of a range/melee heavy class which is needed. Sure remove all the healing associations that were with the Paragon in GW1 and just focus more on the melee/spear range. For Sparta!

The engineer’s toolkit wrench is really their only source of true melee. It is not bad, coupled with the prybar, but engineers are not that great at melee.
But engineers can put out some DPS and condition damage. Lots of AoE means lots of enemies going down. While AoEs only hit 5 enemies max, I can constantly hit quite a bit more than that per attack. With coated bullets, the first target I hit has a chance to process an AoE effect from my sigil of fire. Then the next one has another chance. I routinely see 10-15 enemies in a mob getting tagged by me at once.
They are pretty good soldiers in their own right.
Don’t forget the Bombkit that is def more melee than ranged……
TBH it is only about an hour for the daily but I understand what you mean about having to feel that you DO have to atleast log in for that day and do it.
I’m not sure how I feel about it. I guess it wont be so bad in the future when they back reward us with Laurels for our other achievments. Well I think I read that somewhere anyway. As then it will be just a case of the laurels being thought of as extra things to just spend. Until then tho and until we all have what we want/need from that merchant I guess we have to go with it how it is for now.
Well there’s just certain monsters that do nothing but always spam their cc and if you get into a map where you can face them in groups – no fun.
There is another thing that Queensdale has as an advantage over the other starter zones/maps too that I am testing/exploring these days. That being that it has 6 chests that you can open daily. The other maps do not have this many (yet to do Norn/Charr). Some of them you may find those skritt burglar chests but in queensdale you can ALWAYS open the below 6 chests every day:
1 – Beggers Burrows bandit cave (splendid).
2 – Wolf den just east of the Bandit farm event.
3 – Harpy chest NW of the Bandit farm event.
4 – Centaur camp just NW of the jump puzzle.
5/6 – In the Jump Puzzle which is at the SE corner of the map near the centaur camps.
In total thats 2 splendid chests which are fairly easy to reach and open daily so this is just another small example of why Queensdale is a fave map for so many people.
