I think the best thing to do is assume every thief you fight has shadow return and go fight in the direction where you saw him come from (If you happened to see). The closer you are to the shadow return spot, the better.
If you let the thief chose the spot to fight, you won’t be able to kill him
I dont know op, sounds like you are the one just limiting yourself from enjoying the game. You want a legendary? Then go for it, Its not going to kill your pve gaming if you spend a week just following a zerg getting those badges. Mapping is a little harder but still doable, its not impossible.
And for the dailies feeling as if they are a burden, take a week off in doing them. No game is fun if it feels like a chore, hopefully by the time the week is up you can feel as if you can live without them. Because you can.
It’s because char are demon-cats. Notice how demon comes first. The cat part is relegated as secondary. And as we all know, demons don’t land on their paws when you push them off a cliff.
Besides, all char have a hidden charzooka and pistol somewhere on their body, that really messes up their balance. Kinda hard to land properly when your… “big gun” is pulling you around.
Lol demoncats? You have either been playing the wrong game or watching too much anime.
I vote fix. We have a proposed change that should be coming in about 4 weeks. Wish it could be sooner but we need translation time and testing time.
Hope that scope also brings an animation change when equipped ;D
Edit: An animation change would also make people happy for those that don’t like hip shooting, while keeping the hip shot animation for those that do like it. Two birds with one stone.

Oh, I didn’t know it was only white/blue items…well now I feel dumb. How in the world am I going to get this book over, then? There’s only green/yellow back items in the TP. Curses.
Buy a gem store quaggan backpack. comes with a white backpiece
Just transmuted my chainsaw greatsword onto a white, its account bound now. Whew don’t scare me like that >:O
so … which one is it?
i mean, false alarm right?
Yes false alarm lol
Just transmuted my chainsaw greatsword onto a white, its account bound now. Whew don’t scare me like that >:O
So we can’t make it account bound with whites anymore?
Correct
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!
So we can’t make it account bound with whites anymore?
Hey! Who is saying its gonna get nerfed? You never know! Maybe our skills and traits will stay like this and maybe this was inten-
Nah screw it who am I kidding, this glue bomb shows too much potential. We engies already know whats coming.
I don’t see anything wrong with it. They do corrupt boon, you do elixir c or its equivalent. There is a balance to it.
Awww, I liked its current size if anything we need bigger minis! BIGGER!
Apparently they fixed the turret traits so that is good, I can finally start running my turret build again!
But they did that in the previous patch, I don’t get why its posted up again. Maybe they were waiting for this patch to finally release the fixes but we probably complained furiously enough to get it released earlier than expected :P
No fix to Scope = fail.
Last time there was a patch and people said this. A developer responded say its always worked and was never broken. IT just doesn’t show up on your stats and its only 10%, so its not very noticeable
Then some fellow engies showed him proof that it was not working, to which he replied whether it is working or not they will improve it in the future and proceeded to close the thread. Aka he didn’t know it wasn’t working.
Just bug fixes for every class, thats what they said they were gonna do this month anyways. At least Adrenaline pump works with turrets now
1. Turrets having their cooldown start when you drop them so we can get them ready for next mob when roaming in PvE, the way it is now force me to wait 30 sec for every mob.
2. Make rifle, pistol and bombs FUN, like faster… or at least not the long fire animations. Bombs with mobile heat-seeking AI would also work.
3. Give us a proper class mecanic, example: a passive that creates an engine every 5-10 sec to a cap. The engines are used instead of cooldowns for skills sutch as turrets, mine or other machine like creations.
Yeah I can also agree with those ideas, they sounds fun~
Lemongrass is the equivalent of running around with the condition damage version of the protection buff, except that it cannot even be removed. Yeah warriors can dedicate themselves to making a near full imunity build by dedicating their runes to the cause, but you only need lemongrass to reduce condition damage by almost half and you dont sacrifice anything for it. You said that protection needed a look at, so why not lemongrass too? Cause no one uses condition damage? Whether a few people or a lot use it does not change the fact that lemongrass gives condition damage users a great disatvantage
Ok how about we just make a -40% power damage reduction food, that way all these warriors and thieves get to keep their lemongrass the way it is and power classes get to feel how loosing half your damage is like. surely no one on either side would complain after that since there would be food against both damage types and nothing got nerfed!
We already know what it’s like to lose a huge chunk of your damage. It’s called protection, which is a buff that actually does need looked at.
Ooooh good idea! I would so love to stack those two together for a 75% damage reduction! Thats not even close to 90% like what can be done with lemongrass, so I dont think that would be op, right?

it’ll lead to elitism.
Problem is thats already happened.
well into deeper elitism
Just set a cap on the amount of – condition duration you can have, like -60% at most.
I wonder what they will end up doing about stealth. I’m fairly certain that they won’t touch stealth in itself, but more than likely they are going to add a couple of hard counters to at least a couple of classes.
My guess is they may buff some ranger pets to auto-detect stealth, as it seems only fitting some pets should be able to do so given their heightened senses..
Now the question is, how would thieves feel about that if Anet took that route? If a ranger had a pet out that revealed stealthed units (which you know most rangers would be using in WvW at that point). What would you guys do exactly?
When that happens, thieves would just cry on forums that they’re useless now, can’t do anything, etc etc. Well if guardians can survive through boon hate, then thieves can also survive stealth hate.
Some players have received a refund of their laurels after contacting Customer Support. Best of luck to you. =)
Yes try this. Plus another week, another new thread about unique items. Cmon anet see, just saying unique isn’t enough.
(edited by Penguin.5197)
I use it on my jewel slots for a few reasons:
1) I got lots of armor sets on my engie so switching between them makes it less of a hassle since I don’t feel like I have to switch out accessories too
2) Engies are basically hybrids no matter what weapon you take so no stat bonuses ever go to waste.
3) Celestial gives overall slightly higher stat total than other types, plus free magic find
Uhh.. a “mid range” class predicated on mobility makes sense as a heavy how, again?
I’m all for more weapons but honestly, even there I’ve already got more skills available to me than any other class, if i so choose.
Instead of asking that a class you clearly dont like be rebuilt to suit you, why not just go play something you DO like?
Luckily for the rest of us ANET does the design, rather than this forum
:)
Engies? Mobility? lol? Yes we can outrun guardians and necros but we aren’t exactly engineered for speed
Another charr deciding to defy newton’s law of gravity to..errr.. sleep wherever he feels like~
We are mostly active around 7 to midnight pst time doing wvw, dungeons..whatever else we feel like doing that day though some of use are pretty active almost at anytime during the day
Here’s a screen of around 15 of us after a successful guild bounty night (Thoguh some had already left when I took it), those are always fun with full engie parties!
I want just one: Some fukin Stability.
Lol yes we are missing stability :/ I would like more too
Just a heads-up for people trying to do this, you can transmute onto purchased “back brace” type items as well, but the side of the transmute window that you drop the tool pack onto apparently matters. This seems to be a known, but low-priority, bug. I just recently successfully transmuted my pack onto a forest brace purchased on the TP, so I could finally have back stats and the upgrade slot, without losing my hobo pack.
So if it doesn’t work for you one way, try reversing which side the pack is on, and that may fix it.
They might have fixed this. I just tried it with a forest brace (lowest I could find on TP was lvl55 green/masterwork)… it soulbound on both the left and then on the right side of the transmute window.
If you are trying to transfer from alt to main then you gotta give the alt the t.stone and a white backpiece. white backs are either the christmas backpacks or the ones from gem store that come when you purchase a quaggan backpack
2. Ability to use skills while jumping/falling
This 100x times. Pretty pwease.
Died SO MANY TIMES not being able to stunbreak because I got CC’ed mid-jump or fall.
I don’t know, I would actually dislike it. Using skills while being able to jump would just lead people to bunny hop during the whole fight. While yes, jumping wouldn’t actually help you in this game I still find the movement annoying.
I’m trying to match the colors of my shield but I just can’t get them quite right, having trouble with those colors :/ Also, yes I need a new pistol skin :P

What are the three biggest changes you would like to see made on engie, with your number one being your top priority. It would also help to gives a quick explanation on why, maybe this can help give devs a concensus on whay exactly players want most on their engies.
(And if the changes include nerfs, thats okay too, lets just not turn this thread into a flame thread.)
1. More hp to turrets. I think turrets are becoming close to being viable right, all it needs is a few more pushes, including some sort of way to last longer on the field. The quicker we get the ball rolling on turrets means the quicker engies get more viable builds.
2. Passive abilities on gadgets. The opportunity cost on gadgets is too high, why take a gadget when you can take a kit that will contain an identical skill effect on a much shorter cooldown? Passive abilities would help in giving gadgets that something worthwhile.
3. Blunderbuss changed to instant cast. I think that would help a lot with the rifles problem of skills not shooting and just going on cd.
So what are yours?
Edit: Forgot about blunderbuss, which is probably more important than mortar.
(edited by Penguin.5197)
1. More game modes, personally I got burned out of our only game mode really quick.
2. Option to remove down state in custom matches.
3. Underwater balance. Its horrible fighting in the water. Just horrible and unbalanced. Maybe adding an underwater medium range finisher would help too in this situtation.
At least give them some turret-specific Retaliation with a trait or something!
On one hand a trait like that sounds like a pretty cool idea, it would punish those who use aoe attacks and force them to think twice about using it. On the other hand that also sounds like free ret for thieves.
Why does mortar exist? It does less dmg than nades, it’s slower, cannot crit/proc traits, stationary, cannot hit things nearby, and its range isn’t even that good.
Am I supposed to be impressed by this skill?
It tried to do everything..chill, heal, knockbacks, long range etc but in the end it came out so bad it doesn’t do anything effectively.
Mortar should take a hint from the sniper rifles in Diessa plateau do the long range killing thing better; 5000 range and no arcing.
(Surprisingly 5000 range isn’t that long when it takes into account elevation)
(edited by Penguin.5197)
I’m going to go with…August 2013. It’ll be a nerf.
lol range reduced by half maybe?
I have been playing rifle for a bit again, Imo it would really help if blunderbuss with this problem was instant cast. The half a second delay before shooting makes it very awkward to use, considering how close you have to be to get full damage and how fast other classes are, that half a second delay means that by the time you shoot someone has already moved, maybe out of view, and the skill just goes on cd.
Engie is a complex class, people will try it for a bit then give up quick after assuming they can’t do much at although that is pretty far from the truth. We have some builds that range from decent to near op such as sd (decent dmgoutput), healbomb (super bunker) hgh nades (high dmg output) and flamethrower builds (Jukittenn in pve). Though with most builds you will end up switching kits frequently and to get the most out of your skills you will probably have to set up your own combos with fields and finishers. so if you just want straightforward easier playstyle go thief.
I bet you 10 gold it’s not going to happen this year. Anyone?
Ha fine I’ll take that bet
Ret scales with your power so that might be the difference in damage.
A) No, I don’t want to play a Warrior. I’m not sure why you would think that; they almost had the Engineer as a Heavy Armor class to begin with, but nixed it for reasons I’ve yet to actually see a clear explanation of. Just about every weapon choice I suggest has also been suggested by others, as well, and can be easily bent to Engineering. Also, I’ve played Warriors, they’re kittening boring.
B) This is actually a fairly simple way to go about it, as I see it. Start by making skins out of Medium Armor. Set those aside. Swap Medium Armors out for stat-matching Heavy Armors. Apply Medium Armor skins as appropriate, with a box that allows ditching the skins. Done.
I actually startled my Guardian friend when I mentioned that Engineers have all of three possible weapon sets on land, with only one choice underwater; even they think that the limited weapon choice is silly and that the Engineer should be heavy-armored.
I think what actually happened was that they scrapped the juggernaut first because it played too much like warrior, then we ended up taking most of the juggernaut traits so that is why it seems our class was made to be heavy.
Although I have given up on the idea of making engineers a heavy class, because there is no way in tyria the devs would ever make such a drastic change, I would still like to see an extra weapon like the hammer or something given to the engineers arsenal.
Ooooh a EU engie guild, thats sweet Good luck on getting this group going!
Vulnerability is just in general a pretty bad condition (if not the worst), its not worth focusing on stacking at all. If you make some stacks while playing normally then its cool, a bit more extra damage but its not worth making a build around.
They wont work at the same time, theyll share the cooldown
This happens if you button mash, or you’re so close to your target your gun barrel points through them. In that case the game treats the target as being behind you. Spacing is extra important when using a rifle, but mastered it is a deadly weapon that will earn nothing but rage from your foes.
So in other words yes this does need a fix. Some of us love our charrzooka you know
Adding RNG to the match-up system, priceless.
Anet does love their rng
Mortar has yet to get any changes and if it ever will, no one knows. So how about we make a game about it? Guess what month and year will we ever see a change for it and if you are correct, you win 1g! yay!! (So sue me I’m poor)
Just choose a month and year like.. January 2012. The first person to post that month gets that month and you can only have one guess. Any edited posts are disqualified. Also any posts made a day near when patch notes are up and it happens don’t count.
So go ahead pick a month! You got nothing to lose!
If block duration on static shield went from 2 seconds to 3 seconds then it would definitely be perfect~
Uhm I was actually thinking 5 like what’s enjoyed by other classes and mobs.
Lol, we don’t get what is enjoyed by other classes, only a fraction of the fun.
Exactly, I’m just playing by dev rules
retal is broken against some skills. It’s just not right that you are not allowed to use some skills because you instant kill yourself.
AreaNet needs to make some special factor for certain skills like grenades/flamethrower and ranger barrage.
Just put a 20% modifier for retaliation there and its fine. Leave it for all other skills as retaliation is ok except against certain skills that proc it alot too much.
So: 20% modifier means only every 5th hit procs retal for these few skills or the dmg is divided by 5.
Problem solved without messing too much with retal and without having the need to change the way the skills work.
Yes this, as much as I want to play with flamethrower in wvw, its pretty stupid how it can end up killing you instead. Its funny how the flamethrowers biggest strength is also its biggest weakness, too bad its weakness seems to outweight its strength.
