i think it’s still 2 minutes if the build site hasn’t had any supplies put on it yet, then jumps up to 10 minutes after that.
it’s a shared workload issue, really. if a server plays smart, they’ll spread the boring jobs across their population. if a server plays stupid, they’ll consistently stick a small handful of people with it. if the workload is shared, everyone gets to rotate around and have a chance to have fun. if it’s dumped off on a few people, those people will eventually get burned out and just stop playing entirely.
at this point, i don’t see Anet making any changes to help support those who do the chores. everything they’ve done has been in support of creating a single giant invincible zergball. the majority of the players have drank that kool-aid, and fiercely defend their WXP trains anytime something might potentially disrupt their imaginary rewards from flowing in. the few who do the chores, and get no rewards, simply end up weary from it all and end up leaving. which fuels the zergball cycle.
there are 3 social classes in WvW now. zergmanders, zerglings, and slaves. the first two get the rewards, while the latter group gets nothing but crap. anyone that actually understands strategic play gets drowned out by a chorus of “shut up. we’re here for loot.” yet, the zerglings and zergmanders have no problem making use of the siege and upgrades that the slaves bought, built, and maintained. even going as far as expecting it to be their for them, and whining when it isn’t.
it’s a very depressing and disappointing dynamic that i’m seeing in there every single day. but, it’s easier to point out a problem than it is to fix it. the fix is possible, but at this point it might already be too late. the zerg culture has been ingrained into the playerbase. so changing it would alienate a significant portion of the players. players that anet is relying on for cash.
numerous suggestions have been made for how to fix the problem (regulated rewards, tools to make sentries more important, even events to make sentry duty not mindnumbingly boring), but they’ve all fallen on deaf ears.
hell, this even ties into the “what to do about all the zergin” topics. if you want to break up zerging, there MUST be incentive to do anything else. right now, ALL of the incentive is to mash up into a giant blob, blow yourselves up with combo fields, then run face first into another giant blob. in fact, any solutions to change that are made impossible by the paranoid fear of bots. honest players get punished needlessly, while botters and hackers still run rampant.
now that all of that has been said……
a combination of suggestions could be the solution. have it be siege based. if you go into a tower or keep, and tick the siege, you become flagged. in 20 minutes, if you tick the siege again, you get 10 WXP, and are now listed as a sentry. every minute, a sentry recieves 10 WXP, and 25 when they tick the siege. limit siege ticking rewards to once every 20 minutes per piece. when they leave the area, the sentry status disappears, and they stop receiving the benefits from it. it could even be put on a 5 minute long timer, so that if a sentry needs to push out of the area to finish off an attacking group, they’d be able to get back inside in time to retain their benefits. the same if they need to go to the closest camp to defend it, flip it back, or simply grab supplies from it to build siege in the area where they’re on sentry duty.
SoS, you….. you portal bombed our portal in the SW camp on TCBL. the irony was staggering.
I endorse this idea and/or service.
… But seriously, this should’ve been there from day 1. Defending static locations is just as much about spotting the enemy before they move on it as the actual defensive siege (which just doesn’t happen properly if it’s hard to spot an incoming due to limited LoS). I’m not sure the numbers are sufficient in some places, but that’s more a technical thing, anything is better than what is there currently.
i agree completely that they should have been in from day 1. the main problem is that they would have been useless with culling still in play. if we couldn’t see people when they’re right on top of us, there’s not much reason to be able to not see them far away. now that culling’s been turned off, they has become viable.
while i’d rather see them as an upgrade on towers, having them be blueprints would be my second choice. superiors could give the extra zoom. the main problem with that is that people could set them up to scout into an enemy’s spawn to learn their numbers, whether they have any golems stashed, and which gate they leave through. which seems like a bit too much information.
i’ve noticed that the majority of SoS thieves i’ve come across are running the basilisk venom>mug>backstab builds. now, i’m not going to say what you should or shouldn’t do, but i can offer a bit of advice. that set up is pretty obsolete, to be honest. as i said on the thief forums (seeming thousands of times….) when everyone was crying for it to be nerfed, it’s a one trick pony. once people learn how it works, it’s pretty easy to beat. the best case scenario with them is to gank stragglers who aren’t anywhere close to any objectives. aside from that, they’re pretty much useless.
personally, i find the d/p perma-stealth troll thief to be far more potent. you can sill get good backstabs in, and you frustrate your opponents into making a ton of mistakes. the perma-stealth makes you the best scouts possible, capable of trailing a zerg without anyone in it knowing. the blind from your pistol #5 is a great defensive tool as well. for elites, thieves guild is a good compliment, since they’ll attack while you’re in stealth.
also, don’t go glass cannon. the counter to stealth is supposed to be AoE, and if you’re a glass cannon, it actually hurts like hell, and can possibly even kill you before your stealth wears off. the cavalier rings and earrings (power, toughness, crit damage) from the temple of balthazar should be standard, even if you still want to go with full berserker’s armor and amulet. that should give you about the same level of offense, with a decent level of defense. you’ll lose out a little on your crit chance, but it will end up at around 50% still. you can even swap to a set of knight’s armor and short bow for running with a zerg. a thief with 3k armor and 80% crit damage is far more dangerous than a thief with 2k armor and 104% crit damage.
on the topic of basilisk venom, avoid it like the plague. it’s just plain not worth an elite slot anymore. the duration is too short, and it’s too easy to break out of. if you want an immoblize, devourer venom is much much better. it’s basically the same thing, but lasts longer, applies on two hits instead of just one, has the same cooldown, and is harder to break out of. and it doesn’t take up an elite slot.
there is a downside, however. if you can promote the switch to the bulk of your thieves, about 200 more “nerf thief” whining threads will suffocate the thief forums again.
I’ll start believing its obsolete when it stops killing people plain and simple. It may be for you, but let me just say I have had great success in killing players from both fa and Tc with that specific build.
oh, you can still gank people with it, but that’s all you can do with it. you’ll get your kills, but they’ll just be a meaningless number. it’s like filling your garrison up with rams to boost your supply use score.
oh, and i’ve never bothered to use that set up. i’ve countered it entirely too many times to be fooled by it. like i said, it’s a one trick pony, and once someone knows how to counter that trick, they demolish you. you’re also extremely limited in what options you have. basically, your option is to just run around ganking random stragglers. i’ve never used d/p either. it relies entirely too heavily on the stealth mechanic. i roll a d/d with a mix of knights and berserker armor, with cavalier jewelry, and a shortbow swap. i switch between a 0/30/30/10/0 and my own utility creation of 0/30/15/10/15. if i get hit by basilisk venom, unless i’m outnumbered, i win 9/10 times. mainly because the glass cannon build can’t take a hit, and i can take several. so i’ll live through their burst, but they won’t live through mine afterwards. d/p, however, is a bit tougher to counter mainly due to the annoyance factor.
but, it was only a suggestion. there’s certainly no need to pay attention to any of it.

this thread is in danger of falling off of the first page, so i’m going to bump it to keep it on top. the more people who see this, and support it, the better.
I’m into more small scale stuff and my group of 3 has been running from a zerg for the last 45 minutes, It gets boring.
If you want small scale stuff you just gotta stop being famous. I am sorry to say that you get specifically called out in map chat “Santa is at…” “Pickles is roaming around south Hills…”
My advice is to run around FA BL or SoS BL. TC BL + Pickles = you going to get zerged / hunted endlessly.
hmm…idea, I wear a helmet.
your best bet would probably be to make a squishy character. what usually happens is someone calls out “what the hell?!? that guy just wouldn’t die!!! he took out 5 of us!” then we ask “was it an FA guardian with a beard?” “yeah…” “that’s pickles.”
that’s when “oh crap! it’s pickles!!!” starts, and we form a 15+ “anti-pickles squad” to hunt you down.
TC’s match against SoS and (i think it was GoM) waaaaay back in october was the match where i first started leading a map. i remember going against your aussie crews every night. we’d start out with all 3 orbs each time, and the full map, and do everything we could to try to defend all of it. my crowning achievement that week was making y’all take 8 hours to do it. that match, however is what really got me hooked on WvW, and actually ended up defining my play style. i said something during that match that really summed up our situation. “we don’t have the luxury of trying to decide what to take. the best we can do is try to decide which order to lose it all in.”
i heard that your aussie crew isn’t as large as it once was, but is still very strong. i look forward to locking horns with you every night this week, and more fun and frantic times.
that would be a dream come true, really. i would be happy with just some form of binoculars, but your layout looks to be the ideal set up. sentries would absolutely rejoice if this were implemented. with number 4, though, they would need to make sure it was only PCs that could get tagged, and not NPCs (aside from maybe the mercenaries like the quaggans). so that someone doesn’t tag a wolf, and then run out and kill it each time it respawned. the amount of positive benefits, however, are staggering. giving sentries something to do, and rewards for being sentries would be one of the best changes WvW could ever see.
they could even go one step further with the upgrades, and make tier 3 a sniper rifle, with bonus WPX if you kill someone with it while the tower isn’t contested. it could do similar damage to the cannon, but only to players, and pierce though them instead of being an AoE.
even without the sniper rifle, i would still like to add my name to the list of people who would LOVE to see this.
Man, DB taking third place has to be hard to take for certain people there. I guess we will see just how resilient DB’s wvw community is or if it will suffer the same fate as KN.
Everyone has accepted this in T2 quite some time ago. I wonder if SoR’s response time is this slow in game as well.
I think once SOR is ticking 600+ 24/7 vs TC u’ll find out. SOR knows very well how easy it is to crush the morale of TC’s PVE’rs…..
And no, its not necessarily about skill, our coverage will ensure that when your NA prime forces meet ours, SOR’s already dominant NA will already be inside waypointed tier 3 keeps. Good luck with that…..
i’d….. just like to point out, that before the orbs were removed, every single one of SoR’s guilds was farmed for 9 straight hours by TC’s militia. we also ninja’d the garrison from you…… while you were still inside of it. you can chest thump all you’d like about what you think might happen in the future. we’ll simply smile and nod, because we know what’s already happened in the past. sure, you won the matches convincingly, but we had fun humiliating every single one of you, and we were in character while we did it. you might be able to beat us, but i assure you that you’ll never be able to break us.
see, we don’t care about how big you want everyone to think your junk is. we’re smart enough to grasp the concept of overcompensation. all we care about is going out there, doing our best, and having fun. anything else is trivial. if we win, awesome. if we don’t, no big deal. we’ll take a look a look at what we can improve, and do our best to do so.
see, the thing about TC, is that we’re actually stronger in the face of adversity. we don’t fade away. we don’t bandwagon to the next big thing. we use use it as inspiration. we know what winning is like right now, but we sure as hell know what losing is like. it ain’t anything new to us. just ask BG or KN. i still have boot prints on my face from both of those servers. +0 PPT just means we have a wider choice of which areas to capture. we’ve been there before countless times, and we’ll be there again. but the important part is that we’ll be there, and we’ll always keep coming back no matter how many times you knock us down.
like rocky said, “if don’t matter how hard you can hit. it matters how hard you can get hit and keep coming” and no one’s been able to stop us yet. hence why we’re the zombie coast.
see you on the battlefield.
Proud of FA for its performance against two “Full” servers. Keep up the good work!
This. Even with BT and VK gone, you guys are doing a great job!
to be honest, it looks like it was the best thing that could have happened for them. it took us forever to get the hills back from them on TCBL, despite our super secret 2v1 coalition of blah blah blah whatever delusional crap people from DB are whining about.
and to those people i say, do your research. TC and FA have fought each other an absurd amount of times, and that has grown into a very bitter rivalry. we don’t like each other at all. what you’re seeing is called opportunistic play. if one of us is making a push on your borderland, the other one is smart enough to do the same. it splits your defenders, and allows for easier gains. ya know, instead of whining, you could suck it up and do the same to the both of us. if you honestly can’t accept this, then you are in no way shape or form ready for tier 1, and are fooling yourselves if you even mildly entertain that idea. on top of that, whining about it is a self fulfilling prophesy. you’re painting a target on your back, and both servers, independently and of their own volition, will want to take a swing at you. in the end though, it’s your decision make. just keep in mind that every action has consequences, and be ready to accept them.
plus, all siege was intended to despawn after 30 minutes. the fact that some pieces didn’t was actually a bug. in fact, in a controlled test a few of us conducted off in the corner of the map a few months ago, an arrow cart despawned exactly 30 minutes after being built. however, one reset i was doing sentry duty in the hills, and the rams we placed at the gates when we took it all lasted well over 13 hours each, and only went away because an enemy zerg ran up and killed them. i’ve also seen a treb despawn 10 minutes after i ticked it. i’ve heard countless people tell me that there just plain weren’t any despawn timers on EB, except for trebs. simply put, before it was anyone’s guess when the siege would actually despawn. it could be 10 minutes, it could be 3 days. you just kinda had to drop it and hope for the best.
now it’s how it was originally supposed to be (according to dev posts, the wiki, and independant testing on my part). and that timer is being doubled, and the timer for rams is being halved.
the way i look at it, it’s not an ideal solution yet. however the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. this is that step.
To the TC guild that put 4 banners at the southeast camp on TCBL – the DB zerg thanks you for the free buffs
We usually leave out food for you too, but often you just trample on by it
geeze. no wonder they kept coming in and flipping our borderlands every morning. if you leave food out for them, you’re just encouraging them to come back for it. and what happens if you forget one day, or get tied up and unable to leave it there? they’ll be used to getting it, and won’t be able to forage it from the wilds anymore, and they’ll starve. it’s never a good idea to try to domesticate the wild DB zerg. you certainly aren’t going to be able to tame, them and they’re just gonna come and crap on our lawn. and i ain’t gonna be the one who cleans that up either.
better grab your pooper-scooper and take care of it. sheesh.
I was glad to see that we finally get WXP when repairing walls/gates and for building siege. I facepalmed when I saw it was only one.
I’m all in for having it be longterm advantages to keep players involved, since lack of players is a major problem in WvW, but it comes to the point where you must be a WvW player only to obtain some of the ranks. I put maybe an hour or two in WvW a day, sometimes more, and sometimes none at all, but my highest rank is about 16 when I actively participate in just about everything there is to do in WvW when I enter it.
yeah. if roamers get the short end of the stick, sentries full on get the shaft. i put in about 8 hours a day, buying and setting up a ton of siege that will inevitably despawn (which is its own burden), watch the map to read enemy movements and relay it, manage the militia running around, and my single character is at rank 17. the majority of which i got while taking breaks to join our zerg. if i relied solely on defending, i still wouldn’t have broken double digits.
B. For the other siege: it should despawn if OUTSIDE, but when in the setting of a tower or keep, it should not despawn at all.
To avoid enemy spies putting a hundred ac’s in a tower, the guild who claimed the tower should be able to destroy friendly siege in their own tower or keep.
And if that is all they can do: put down usefull siege in your own tower or keep, than at least you can deploy that siege.
It’s when they can put down rams that it is a real waste.
Point A would solve the abuse of useless rams totally. That would only leave a full spy-guild to first claim a tower and than fill it up with sieges.
This seems a rather unlikley scenario, but of course: it’s bound to happen here or there…
i think this is the best way to go. however, i’d change your point A to having rams only able to be deployed at a gate, and on a 5 minute despawn timer. when it’s being manned, the timer is a non-factor, and once a ram’s done its job, it’s just useless clutter.
on a seperate note, the current system does nothing to prevent saboteurs. why? well, they can just run back to the troll rams they filled a place up with and tick it all before it expires. if they don’t get back in time, no big deal. they’ll just drop more blueprints and eat up the tower/keep’s supplies to rebuild. it’s a horrible design.
Anet has said that the despawn timers are there to save on resources, which……. seems like a fresh load of BS. if 17 arrow carts are placed in a tower, and are being constantly ticked by some unlucky SOB (me), what makes it any different than if they were permanent? oh yeah, that unlucky SOB (me) can’t go out and actually play the game at all, or all the gold and badges they used to buy the siege is a colossal waste. huzzah! either i’m a slave shackled to the siege i dropped, or i’m a beggar living off of donations. usually both.
increasing the timer to an hour or even two just delays the problem, but it doesn’t FIX the problem. we need a REAL fix, not just another band-aid slapped over a gaping wound.
at this point i’d be happy if they gave commanders…….. anything. seriously, 100 gold for a dorito and a supply check is nuts. there’s sooooooo much that needs to be added for commanders it’s not even funny. if they want to help WvW, that’s where they should start focusing. guild commanders, ability to have squad chat without the dorito on, ability to toggle other commanders’ visible and invisible for you even if you’re in another’s squad, some form of raid frames, different colored chat in /t, NO SUPPRESSION, the list goes on and on.
but……. we got traps instead.
Seems like the TC server we faced just a few weeks ago is returning. TC took a break the same time DB came into T2 and I started to wonder if DB was ever going to see the powerful numbers TC can bring.
Some of us on FA have been a little surprised that DB beat TC the last couple weeks, and a little dumbfounded that we beat TC too. I still think TC has the highest PPT potential of all three servers and could take green if it decides to.
it might be close, but i dunno. my gut still tells me that DB holds the advantage over us. their oceanic and SEA presence is brutal. i mean, if they were just a PvDoor mob, it wouldn’t be so bad, but they’re not. NNK is an pretty well disciplined and organized group. they absolutely embarrassed me one day by picking apart a tower i did the write up on for our server, by using the attack methods i spelled out in the gigantic arrowcarts uber thread. the irony was literally overwhelming. and they pulled it off beautifully. i was just in awed shock the whole time.
so DB will usually be holding the PPT lead during those hours, meaning TC would have to dominate NA primetime to be able to catch up. i mean, eventually TC could pass DB up, but that would be quite a while down the line.
That’s why this thread has almost 700 replies in half a day
Half of them from your guild…
man, i’m glad you said it, cause i was just about to.
to all the people telling about adaption, etc. What is the answer to all these well placed ac? You have to treb everything.
now on the other hand, imagine you have a job, which allows you to play an average 4 hours a day to play, mostly during the same timeframe every day, mostly primetime on your server, when you and your opponents field the most players. when the scouts are most alert, when there is a scout in every tower and every camp armed with ac’s.
it’s a game, games should be fun, and this coming siege war doesn’t sound like fun to me, as a casual but dedicated player
setting up 2 trebs, and taking out the defensive siege takes no more than 20 minutes. at most. from there, there’s no defensive siege for the defenders to use. since you’ve starved them out of supplies, they can’t build more. sure, they can port to another map and pick up more, buuuuuuuut that doesn’t really give them an easy way back. and it leaves them shorthanded during those loading screens. plenty of time to drop 3 superior rams and shred the gate. if they stand their ground, then it’s a straight up large scale PvP fight.
if it takes you more than a half hour to attack a tower, even a tier 3 tower, there are better ways to go about it than whatever you’re trying. and if that place is wooden, it shouldn’t take you more than 10 minutes, tops. doing the math, and assuming it takes you the full half hour to take each structure, at 4 hours of play time, that means you can take 8 towers during your play time. double the time frame for keeps, so you can take 4 keeps during your playtime, which is 1 more than are on any map. so you can break that extra one down into 2 towers. which means that your group can take almost an entire borderland during your timeframe. if you have multiple groups running around to hit the camps and the other two towers, that’s the whole borderland there. if you’ve spent that entire time attacking the same target, then a change in strategy is in order.
And yet again someone is making the assumption that THERE IS ONLY 1 ARROWCART.
Superior arrowcarts cost 40 supply to build, you can put an insane amount in a very small area and they are even more devastating now since they reach over double the length of the 1000 range of siege limit! I managed to get 12 prior to the buff, now I am sure I could get more to hit around a door…
So even if you destroy 4 on the ramparts that is still 8 you need to contend with that requires trebs which can be counter treb’d and not defended by swirls or any deflection.
Im tired of having the same redundant argument over and over with people who think this is ok for the game! Its really not and you will see that eventually.
no where in my post am i assuming there’s only 1 cart. in fact, i’m assuming there’s at least 6. why? because i’m a defensive specialist and know how to place defensive siege. what i am saying is: don’t use one dimensional attacks. you CAN counter anything that’s in the game if you do so properly. don’t argue, yes you can. everyone pinpointing into one area, and attacking solely from that area is NOT a proper counter. so…. adapt. if that’s all you know how to do, and refuse to adapt, then you might not be as awesome as you think you are and are going to go the way of the dinosaurs. the fact that you flat out refuse to accept that possibility, and berate people who flat out handed you a way to overcome it, is very telling in this regard.
now, personally, i don’t really care which direction you choose to go in. i do know which direction i’ll be going in. so you can go back to your meltdown now.
i spent a few hours testing the carts last night. honestly? the damage was only a touch high. not super powerful, just a touch. a 50% increase would have been perfect, but even the 80%(up to 110%) IS manageable. it just means you have to clear out siege before you start setting up rams. no biggie, as rams stopped being my primary method of attack months ago.
the real issue is the range. while extending the range is a good change, it got extended a little bit too far. 75-85% of what it currently is would be perfect. as it stands, catapults, set up at their max range, are within range of carts set up on the walls. while rams should never be used to attack a defended tower/keep, catapults should be. if catapults have to be set up within range of arrow carts, they get destroyed before they’re built.
now, i’ve always prioritized defense over offense, and i honestly hate zerging in general. i absolutely detested the giant zergball trains that were the result of the WXP system, and put zero stock into anyone’s rank there. for the most part, this change was good for the game. break up into different groups and attack multiple targets at the same time. don’t stand in the frickin’ red circles. avoid where they’re strong, attack where they’re weak. this change promotes that. however, as i stated, it’s just a touch too much. simply scaling the range back a little bit should put it at a manageable level.
simply put:
do not expect to take a structure with one one level of attacks
running up and plopping down rams and expecting those to be all that you need didn’t cut it before, and doesn’t cut it now. nothing has changed in that regard. attack structures in stages. similar to taking out out the cannons and oil beforehand, but now on a larger scale.
do not attack from only one direction
attack from multiple directions at the same time. ok, so you set up a treb to counter their treb, and it got taken down by theirs. why didn’t you set up two, in different spots, attacking from different angles? that defensive treb can only hit one thing at a time, and if it attacks one, the second one can take it out. do that.
do not form an uberzerg and focus all of you efforts into only a single target
if you only attack one area, you GIVE the defenders the advantage. if you attack multiple, you give yourselves the advantage. there is nothing that a 50 man group can do that can’t be better accomplished by two groups of 25, or two groups of 20 and a group of 10, or even better, two groups of 20 and two groups of five.
post sentries in every tower and keep that you own
if you leave your towers and keeps empty, and expect to simply rush there when it gets contested, you DESERVE to lose them. you put zero thought and effort into its defense, and you shouldn’t be able to get away with that kind of carelessness.
don’t stand in the giant red circles
the damage doesn’t mean crap if it doesn’t actually hit anyone. if you see a giant red circle around you, get the hell out of it. there’s absolutely no reason why anyone should expect to be able to take a bunch of AoE in the face repeatedly, and now it actually can kill you.
as an aside, perhaps it would be a good idea if people were to suggest a giant pit-like area, where they can simply hold deathmatches for large scale fights without having to bother with any objectives other than “kill the other guys before they kill you.” then they’ll stop wishing to see the objectives be diminished to a nonexistent level, and can enjoy their deathmatches to their heart’s content. and the people who actually wish to focus on objectives can do so freely. then everyone gets what they want, and everyone’s happy.
Its all good. Was a new computer mostly. Got it 6 months ago. Just didnt replace my Monitor. Will get a new one tomorrow. Will just pay the overpriced Best Buy prices lol.
And besides. I was also curious to know if my laptop could run it. Not I get to find out lol.
i’d recommend getting one from newegg or tigerdirect. it’ll take a little longer for it to get there, but it’ll be a bit cheaper and you won’t have that “someone just shot me in the junk with a staple gun” type feeling you get from dealing with best buy’s “professional computer experts.”
i think this really sums up the whole reason to at least use punctuation: http://imgur.com/gallery/rmQmH
i mean, i don’t capitalize, but some separation of ideas makes all the difference in the world man. now, if it’s just one line, a period isn’t entirely necessary, but still good for practice.
i can’t say that i’ve ever seen gold selling spam in the chat in WvW. if it were to appear, it would get mass reported and then mass /ignored immediately. i mean, i’ve seen bots before, running naked laps near the skritt or blob farming the karka’s, but not in several months. i think goldsellers got the picture that giving that crap a try in WvW was very counterproductive and hopefully have given that up. if so, then chat suppression in WvW could be relaxed quite a bit, if not removed outright. and not just for commanders either.
Is it reportable to do a giveaway that requests the users spam map chat with numbers? Because people keep doing it on certain servers I’m guesting to so now I’m curious.
By spam I mean spam. Easily 20+ entries from several players just flooding the chat with numbers.
let’s……. pause and analyze here. someone is doing a giveaway. meaning, they’re taking something that they have, and giving it to people. apparently in the form of a contest. i.e. they’re being generous. for there to be 20+ people, what they’re giving away has to be pretty nice, since there’s that many responses. i’d wager something along the lines of a precursor, or perhaps even a legendary itself. i.e. they’re being VERY generous.
now, let’s look at the other part of this. you said this is happening on servers that you’re guesting to. let me repeat that. this is happening on servers that YOU are GUESTING to. meaning, you’re a guest on their server. do you make a habit of going into your neighbor’s house and telling them where they should put their sofa?
so, let’s put this things together, and this situation is that a guest is coming in and trying to get someone into trouble for being generous…… because 20+ people are typing numbers into map chat to try to win some form of contest. quite frankly man, you’re being a killjoy in someone else’s backyard. and…… if you’re really expecting there to be anything of value in map chat, you’re going to be disappointed whether there’s a contest going on or not.
i have over 2900 hours, i identify every dye that i get, and i’ve never had a single one. i’ve never had black or celestial either. RNG is never kind to me, in any aspect it’s implemented into. i’ve pretty much come to accept that no matter how much time and effort i put into an MMO, i’m always going to end up behind the curve simply due to luck.

it’s just plain…… fun. it reminds me of a time when games were just that. games. they were there just to play for a while and enjoy. not second jobs that required constant attention. i’d love to see it as a permanent fixture, if for no other reason than it’s an option. the more mini-games, the better really. i’d much rather see numerous options than to be filtered into a new one every month, and ONLY that one. i’m not a cow, i don’t want to be herded. i’d much rather be treated like an intelligent adult. if there are options, i’m able to choose how i wish to spend my time. it is, after all, MY time, and i’m certainly competent enough to manage it. if someone isn’t, then they have much bigger problems than anything going on in a video game, and should really be focused on dealing with those first.
sure, the freshness of it will fade over time, especially as new content is introduced. however, mini-games are things you can keep coming back to at any stage of the game. no major time investment needs to be put into them, and there’s no “keeping up with the jones’s” effect. just go, play, and have fun for a while. after all, isn’t that the entire point of video games?
i have a mesmer named McPortals. my goal with him was to have over 1 billion served.
PCs =/= Tyria’s population
PCs do, however, = the poor schmucks that have to do the dirty work of the asparagus that’s too busy jabbering blandly to fight the dragons
there, fixed that for you
People love the new outmanned buff so much on SBI that we now have a queue to get in to EB to enjoy it. Too bad it’s not displaying properly now, it was bugged during our entire primetime tonight
did you try killing the grub? i heard that unlocks the UI to fix it, but if you kill any players during that time, it all resets, and you have to start over from scratch. if that doesn’t work, your only option is to have everyone on the map all enter the jumping puzzle, and sacrifice yourselves to the traps. however, and this is very important, it’s one specific trap. i don’t quite remember which though. you’ll have to do some experimenting to find out. good luck, i hope it helps.
(waits to get an infraction…..)
they need to fix culling in pve.
They said they were working on it, but that it’s much harder to do in PVe than WvW. There is some difference in the process that makes the WvW solution unworkable in PVe.
i remember reading that the reason is that there’s a wide array of character models in PvE, and really only a few in PvP and WvW. they could be able to set it to where you can see all of the other players, but that doesn’t really do anything to help with the mobs that are trying to kill everyone. the good news, however, is that they did a great job fixing it in WvW, so it’s only a matter of time before it’s removed from the game entirely.
i have to admit though, it’s….. a little intimidating actually seeing just how many people you’re rushing into, or are rushing into you. but that’s something that passes as soon as you wipe them a couple of times. all in all, it’s a fantastic change.
it’s simple really. don’t skip mobs. i know, i know. that’s the uber-leet thing to do, or whatever ridiculous saying anyone wants to use, except…… it’s really not. it’s just flat out laziness with a spin george stephanopoulos would envy coming up with. do dungeons to…… do the dungeons. not to skip them, and then act as though that makes your more skilled than anyone else. it doesn’t. in fact, it makes you a liability. why? because if you HAVE to fight something, you have no clue how to because you’ve spent all your time running past it.
it doesn’t save time, and is completely unnecessary in order to get the loot you’re after. in fact, you actually get LESS loot by bypassing the dungeon. hell, i’ve actually seen people asking if we could skip entire bosses. i’ve never been booted from a group, but i have left a few, and have booted a few people myself because i was dealing with these types of “players”. yes, i put players in quotations, because they’re not. they’re children who only care about instant gratification, even if their imbecilic approach causes it to take longer, and end up as a complete disaster.
and to start combat before all of your members are there is just plain stupid and rude. all four of the people in your party should be embarrassed by how much ignorance was put on display. when you join a party, you become part of a team. something that requires (gasp!) teamwork. yep, you actually have to work together to give your team the best chance for success. failing to do so will, and should, result in failure.
simply put, your group did a terrible job, approached things poorly, were ridiculously shortsighted and completely lazy, and just plain didn’t deserve any rewards from the dungeon whatsoever. and now you’re here making whining thread about it. and when someone tries to explain where you went wrong, you’ve tried to justify it, or push the fault onto the community itself. sorry to say, it ain’t everyone else fault. because i know how this scenario goes. someone joins a party, says " are we skipping things or doing it all? i’m ok with either" they get told that the plan is to do the whole thing, then said person nags at EVERY single encounter to skip it, and need to be told “no, scooter, we’re actually going to DO this dungeon” time and time again. and guess what? said person ends up being a corpse most of the time, because as it turns out, they’re absolutely WORTHLESS in the dungeon they’re trying to farm. (and are usually running a glass cannon melee build, because OMG BIG NUMBER!!! yes, number. singular, because they’re dead after their first attack.)
so, who’s at fault here? anet? nope. the party system? nope. the mesmer? nope. the community itself? nope. want a hint? look in the mirror. can’t accept that? play a panda. want to try to justify it? doesn’t change anything. want to actually be worth something in a dungeon? actually do the dungeon. want to make a whine thread about it? you really don’t want to know my answer to this one. don’t like it? too bad.
your day is no longer divided into hours and minutes, but NW prime time, oceanic prime time, EU prime time, and then your 20 minute power nap.
the way i look at it, there’s not really any need for chat suppression in WvW at all. if some bot is spamming chat trying to sell people gold, they’re going to get mass reported and blocked in an instant. it’s like with the bot clusters. we’d have our zerg make a detour to go to it, have everyone report each of them, kill them, collect our badges and move on. sure they were annoying, but chat suppression is even more so.
Alliance of the Forgotten Seas is a South East Asian guild that’s focused on World vs World.
Where are we from?
We are currently located in Sea of Sorrows, however have decided to move on from this server due to recent events that happen to the server.
Who is AFS?
We are a small guild with about 300 members currently and field around 20-30 people during our primetime on weekdays while during weekends we have atleast 50 people on before, during and after our primetime.
What is AFS?
We are not like other larger guilds where instead of zerging down our enemies, we preffer to keep our precense on field as low as possible and perform behind enemy lines and play with our enemy’s minds. To those who have played with us know how well we do just that.
What kind of server are we looking for?
Although many have asked or requested us to speak with thier server representatives, we preffer to make things simple and only request three things from any server that is interested in our services.
1.List the number of Active SEA guilds in your server.
2.Give examples of how those guilds have worked together in the past (for example produce a short 3-5 min video of yourselves).
3.Show us examples of how that server’s community is Strong and supportive of the guilds which participate in WvW for them.
AFS does not wish to be offered gold/money when we decide on transfering to a new server, we however wish for that community of that server to cooperate with us on the move when it happens.
Please do not whisper/mail me ingame, as my inbox ingame has limited space.
If you wish to ask questions or setup a meeting with myself and my officers you can post it here.
Thank you for your time in reading this, we hope that this clarifies all the various questions that have been asked of us.
TC would LOVE for you to consider us.
to answer your questions:
1. Pro Baddies and FIST put in a lot of work during that timeslot. we also have countless militia members out there as well. our militia is extremely well trained, and able to handle just about any task that’s needed.
2. working together is pretty much second nature on TC. when we step into WvW, we’re not an assortment of individual guilds, we’re TC. through and through. i never really thought to record any of it, since that’s just daily life on TC.
3. since we’re the unofficial RP server, the community is strong and will always be strong. we’ve worked tirelessly to dispel the myth that RP and PvP are mutually exclusive, as most of our members do both. we have a 10,000 slot mumble server, that’s available for anyone and everyone on TC to make use of for whatever they’d like. we have a community site (tcgw2.com). we contributed in large part to the longest running match up thread in GW2 history: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/2013-BG-Kain-TC/first as well as having been voted the best opponent of 2012 here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/WvWy-s-2012-who-was-your-favorite-opponent-in-2012/first as well as the best reputed server here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/Best-Reputed-Server/first. BG nicknamed us “the zombie coast” because no matter what the odds are, or whatever’s occurred, we just keep coming, and are known to come out even stronger each time. in fact, several of our opponents have shown their support of us in our recruitment thread here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/TC-needs-Oceanic-Asian-EU-Guilds-Players/first
if you were to join us, you would be welcomed with open arms (and jayne’s cookies).

Why are we even discussing 2v1s happening on out tier?
My vote is TC best reputable server if given the chance they would escort enemy yaks to towers…
actually……. we already have. that was how the first yak parade started out, and despite there being some resistance, the yak managed to make it all the way there. granted, a rather large portion of us went into a berserk rage and charged off to retaliate against the attackers, and anyone even remotely connected to them, but i heard later that the yak made it in safely enough.
this is a blast from the past, man. my first WvW match was DB/TC/MAG in like september, i think it was. DB kicked the crap out of us. i was terrified of you guys for a while.
i am, however, exceptionally curious to learn about magguma’s rams. i’ve been reading about it for months, but i haven’t gotten to see it firsthand. i’m looking forward to it greatly.
/salute
We had a 30 minute staring contest with FA in our Hills on their BL…and they just left. Nothing happening…
yeah that’s…… wait what?
BG, we’ve always needed to step up our game when facing you guys, and you’ve really helped us become much better in the long run. going all the way back to the very first time we went against you during the orb era, all the way up to this match today. and i sincerely thank you for it. we’ll miss you , and good luck in tier 1.
KN, you’ve been remarkable opponents, and were very quick to adapt to the flow of tier 2. i’ve been very impressed with how quickly it happened as well. you have some very very skilled and organized guilds, and i’m predicting that you’ll be on top by a sizable margin next match. you have my condolences for what i’m expecting you guys to have to put up with on the forums next week. however, you’ve been honorable and respectful opponents the past few weeks, so i recommend trying to keep the positive energy going despite all the negativity that will undoubtedly, and unfairly, get tossed your way.
i also want to thank everyone for hands down the best matchup thread in the history of the game. even though we’re all going in different directions, something unprecedented was accomplished here that i don’t know will ever happen again. no matter what the future brings, remember this thread. something special happened here, and everyone who contributed to it should feel extremely proud of what was accomplished. with luck, we’ll all meet again in the future.
/salute
actually, there was a little asura thief there trying to cause a ruckus. he was popping dagger storms in the middle of it. we just sort of ignored him and kept on our merry way.
If TC could pick up 1 HB or Thai
deal. pick one, pass ‘em over. we’ll start by introducing them to lindsay, though she might not say hi back since she’s passed out in the citadel with a bottle of wild turkey. then we’ll take them to commander busey’s command center, if we can find it. he tends to wander aimlessly a lot. then we can conclude the tour by taking them to paris’s rave in the garrison. i just hope they don’t mind yaks.
Score update without siege
wait…. there was siege in the other ones? i never actually noticed it…
Anyways, score update please
? I like to keep track of the scores throughout the day to see how our crew is doing in each timezone.
Thanks!
i think you mean nudity/gary busey update.
about the trebs hitting the NE camp, i’m assuming you mean on reset night for TC’s first match in tier 2. it was 4 trebs, actually. i know this because that tower is my baby. my guild goes there every reset night, and sets up as much siege in there as can possibly fit. BG, you got to see that first hand when we wiped your 5 golems there tonight.
if you see the chalice on the banner, your best bet is to just move on past. because we get a sick thrill out of see how much siege we can fit in a tower. and we’ll stay there all night long. sleep is for the weak.
It’s nice to see FA ready to dish out good fights. To TC, we’re coming back with fireworks, and Fiesty Brat score boards. See you all after reset.
Didn’t you hear? You can only post scored updates if you’re naked. New rules. /nod
You sicken me! You could never understand the wholesome nature of Feisty’s updates!
Tomorrow at reset behind the Garrison after gym class, we fight!
Bah… It’s all about Feisty around here… I’ll never bring scores up again…
Please just shoot me to death.
nude up, and you can post as many score updates as you want. thems the rules.
indeed. thank you SoR. we needed a match exactly like this, and i wish it could have lasted another week or two. we got a lot of the rust shaken off, though we still have a little way to go. with any luck, BG can finish the job next match, and i can go back to sleeping at a normal hour again.
