For pvp for me it is great. I changed from elementalist too and eng is really strong. You have only to learn becouse even if the mechanic seems similar there are many difference and there are many combos you can do. I play with power condition build and 3 kits (30,0,0,30,10) . I don’t hit hard but if you add the condition damage the damage is good and you put great pressure on your opponent. Another great thing is that with different kits you can pass immediatly from range to melee . Engeneer has much more defense skill than elementalist and you can win with a warrior but obviously you have to time correctly your defense skill. Every kit have at least 2 defense skill from what i see and only with pistol shield you have 3 skills for defend yourself
I use a 3 kit build based on power with toolkit, bombs and elixir gun. Thief are weak on condition so when i disappear i drop bomb 5 ,3 , or 2 around me and keep moving and when disappear i use elixir gun for putting condi on them . Using then shield and toolkit 4 it is difficult but u can block backstab if luck. I play in mists but i suppose the same things works even in wvw. It is not simple but it can works
which weaponset/ build are in meta now for thief ? have you any suggestions ? ( i play thief, engi and elementalist but with thief i know only d/p and s/d and i wanted to know if something changed after last patch in build )
I played thief for a while and now i played engi. I want a suggestion from you , which of the 2 classes is better for pvp ? (i enjoy them both ) . Is good thief now in Squeue ? I played only a match with D/P and it seems to me quite viable but i am not an exper. Is it condi power engi better ?
the only thing u win in pvp is dye and u don’t get it quite often
i agree with u , quite all skilled player knows how to handle a thief in stealth … (AOE… dodge and so on ) . I play quite often with S/D and D/P as second but PP with increment of init is not a bad idea…
i don’t think after nerf S/D will be unviable … it will be harder to use for stunned remove but not unviable. I think also backstab , D/D and D/P are simpler to user but now S/D is more effective . Skilled players know how to avoid D/P backstab, D/D backstab and hs even if it is not always simple … instead great mobility of S/D is newer for more people .
I am speaking about PVP Mists where perma stealth in my opinion is something not usefull … instead inWVW things can be different ( i don’t play much wvw)
What weapon set will we have to use in PVP (mists ) after 10 Dec Patch ?
- D/P seems to me not really hit by patch becouse i don’t relay on perma stealth and i find permastealth unusefull in PVP
- S/D seems nerfed on infiltrator strike but init regen can help … it is not simple to me to predict how nerfed or viable it will be now
- D/D will be buff (hs spamming )
Other weaponset is am not really competent . Any suggestion ?

1) It stops you from using this skill while stunned, which puts more burden on Sword/Dagger thieves saving their stun breakers. This is the kind of gameplay we want to encourage because it puts more risk in using a rewarding skill like Infiltrator’s Strike.
it seemed to me that the nerf on infiltrator strike will be only on stomping … not on fighting someone but i can misunderstand
how will they nerf S/D ?
in my opinion it is too simple to use S/D for longbow /hammer warrior. With DP or DD warrior use flame of longbow when u are in stealth and it is really annoying and letal. I am not a great pvp player and it is really hard to win but it is possible. You have to begin attack always with infiltrator strike and shadow return when block finisted . it is hard and it is only an hit and run strategies … and the fight can be really long

what weapon do u suggest for tpvp / spvp ? i tried S/D and D/P and i find D/P much simpler to use than S/D. I try D/D also but it is more complex to survive.

PP is much better for single instance target but in my opinion with SB it is much more simple againt for example mermers .

I am using a guardian in TPVP. Which strategy do u use for condition removal ? I tried with signet (1 every 10 seconds ) and purity (1 every 10 seconds) I tried even with meditation but i’d like to know if there are other ways with shorter CD.

thief is the funnest i tried … guardian is the most versatile … u can use a guardian every where with good rewards ….
it depends on the contest … for tpvp ans spvp staff and hammer , for wvw and pve staff and hammer/greatsword
I use a guardian in hotjoin … and i find it very viable if you use the correct spec
In my opinion the simplest build to use is a meditation based build. I know there are others better but when i make pvp (in mists and wvw ) remove condition helps me a lot.
I use in tpvp 0,20,30,20,0 with staff and hammer (radiance 1,6) , in wvw 20,0,30,20,0 with gs ( i take zeal 7 for healing and more dmg with gs ) .The other traits are the usual for a meditation builds. I know that many players prefer shouts . i prefer meditation becouse they have less CD and so i can have two handed mastery in honor which helps me a lot
Mesmer , Engineer and thief can kill you ok , but you can kill them …it depends on many factors and first of all from the player you have against. if , for example , you try an elementalist (i used one for a lot of time ) it is really much more difficult to stand up against an enimy.

i understand your point but remain at the right distance from an enimy is very difficult and in tpvp or wvw usually u are not alone… and your enimy is not alone …. in my opinion it is too complex for medium player to get result …
I don’t agree with the OP.
Guardian is not OP in 1 vs 1 but it can make things very well. In Mist, with guardian , i die against quite all class, but in the same time, i win against quite all class, it depends on the player against me ….. so i think it is not a “guardian” problem , i find quite often better players than me .
Are u so sure that problem of elementalist come only from nerf ?

I rolled a guardian becouse i wanted to try a different class and i have to say that it is a different game.
If you use fresh air build for example you have to time perfectly 4 or 5 skill and switching attune correctly . It is very difficult (making it against a training golem is quite simple but making it against a player is different ) and in a “long” fight you have to costantly do the right thing . I play guardian , for example, with staff (2 attack) and GS.
The only “combination” i do on swapping is between staff 3 and 1 combo finisher of GS . as you can see it is really a lot easy to manage .
Playing quite often in mists with guardian now i don’t see any class OP : every player i stand up i feel that i can do it, i loose quite often becouse i find better players than me . When my team wins, with elementalist, i kill a lot but when my team is not good it is very difficult to kill, instead with guardian i feel i do something in every case .
How could anet reduce difficult of elementalist for making it more viable ? I think they should review elementalist mechanic to make it easier (for example making combo in the same attune).
i tried with my guardian but pherhaps it is not a good server. (Fow if i remember ). In my opinion guardian is not so good for wvw , no good range weapon and i don’t like greatsword, i find hammer much better but it is not so good for fighting many players
I don’t play warrior, but i tried one. I play pve and mists (wvw) is boring for me and i play guardian or elementalist and rarely thief.
I find warrior one of the stronger class of the game but i prefer fight a warrior (the same for thief in some ways) rather than many other professions .
I am not a skilled player on my profession and take down a warrior is really hard (with guardian very hard but sometime i guess it, with elementalist for me near impossible ) .
the problem of warrior is that there is many many people who leveled up a warrior or thief thinking of being OP, they stand up and don’t dodge and so you have more probability to fight a not good player.
For example i find very difficult to fight engeneer … becouse people who choose engi wants really to learn it and they know they did not choose the simple way … so many of them are strong players. A strong warrior is quite impossible to fight alone …
WvW is one of the boring things i have tried in life …. waiting for a gate to go down or spamming aoe on a zerg …. spvp or tpvp are much more fast. You play 10 minutes, u fight 10 minutes. Have u think of how much time in wvw you fight and how much time you walk around a map or wait for something down for example ? the maior part of fight in wvw is range from what i have seen (fight against player… not against boring and stupid mobs ) . Most of people standing up all time spamming aoe and range attack .
I used dagger dagger a lot and for me ele has a great advantage, many skills work even if u have not target something (air 1 or fire 1,2 or water 1,2) for example. I rolled a guardian and hammer is very strong but people use much more greatsword becouse it is much more simple to “get” something. Everytime people does not consider this
Ah … so the weakness is for wvw ? i hate wvw …. (it takes too much time for me, i am old with a family and children and in wvw i don’t often find anything to do instead in mists if i stay half an hour i fight for all time ( and often loose

People here says elementalist is too weak in PVP . My experience is low, made in hotjoin and in some tpvp .
I tried to play elementalist in pvp , i die a lot, but i kill a lot. On the other side, i play with guardian, i survive more but it is harder to kill people becouse there is less mobility ( i play with staff/hammer).
With guardian , the class i have much more problem to kill is elementalist. Warrior,necro, thiefs, mesmer kills me as a guardian and sometime i kill them (it depends on the player obviously ) instead i find killing an elementalist hard becouse it escapes easily.
Are u sure elementalist is so weak ? 1 vs 1 probably is hard , but i think it is hard with every profession and the player is much more effective than professions and skills
and guardian is viable ?

I am lvl 9 player and i play pvp since 2 weeks . I am a casual gamer and i arrive to pvp after making all pve content with 4 char. It is boring to join a server where the final score is 46 vs 500 as this morning, but, on the other side, if u observe how you die and how people play i think u can learn a lot.
I’d like to live a little . I tried with berserk but warriors killed me very easily …
Hi to all. I have an elem , a guardian and a thief at lvl 80. I’d like to play pvp and so i started trying thief in pvp. I tried with full berserk 25,30,10,05 build but i found it a little unviable. What build do u suggested for pvp ? how to set traits ? Should I have to put all on dps… or better a more defensive approch ?

@haviz can u explain why u waste point in earth ? Eng is not my first lang so i can misunderstand, but i understand this : point in earth give u thoughness before u put armor on , so more toughness you get from armor less influence earth trait has. Do i understand correctly ?
yes … but earth give u much surv … you have to weight the 2 aspects
@haviz.1340 i agree with u. In my opinion however there are builds better than bunker build. With bunker build i feel to low dps. It is a personal opinion obviously. I am more confortable with 30 in fire or 30 in earth. It is correct that cond damage is less usefull … but you have to consider even that with earth u gain toughess. There are situation in which i prefer 30 in fire, other going to earth … it depends. It is obviously a personal feeling and not a god truth
I play a lot with 30 in fire, 30 in earth and 10 in water and i had no problem of survivability in dungeons … ( i tried even 30 fire, 20 earth ,20 water with good profit) .
Stealth.9324 with some bosses it is more usefull to use staff .. for example in TA … in other like cof or cm u can use even D/D. In my opinion it is much more important to know the map well …for pvp i don’t play it often but i found i make more point with dps builds that with bunker build becouse in any case elem with bunker build is much more squishy than other professions. In my opinion the build is something funcional to play style …
@Stealth.9324 for pve you have no problems playing with different build from tank.
I made many dungeon with 30,0,20,20,0 … you stay in fire or earth and swap to water or air when needed. I think even that 10 in water are more than sufficient if u increase your toughness and earth traits give even cond damage (in pve it is very usefull)

but a signet build without written in stone is not very viable in my opinion. Signet of earth gives u a good amount of toughness now … but if u don’t have written in stone u loose it when u use signet
