Is mobility too strong?

Ok, few lines. I mained thief for 3-4 months, mained ele for 2 months or abouts. Only for D/D Spec, nothing else really.

I’ve played most specs and classes…why? I had a main identity crisis where I wasn’t sure what I wanted as my main. Having tried them all, I found D/D Ele to be the easiest spec, to the point it was mind numbingly easy. Just spam skills, Swap attune etc.

To put it into perspective, I was rolling face on an ele with lvl 65 Blue’s and greens all over, and surviving way more, than any other class, with exotics. Its OP. Anet knows this, and any player worth his salt does. Its already announced its getting nerfed, and I await the day so I can finally play my ele and actually play something interesting.

As for other specs, Staff sucks at roaming, granted, I don’t mind buffs to its capabilities there, and in fact welcome them.

Focus, could use some changes and traits need some love too. S/D?

S/D is the only weaponset I feel justifies the effectiveness of 0/10/0/30/30 or any other variants as it actually requires skill and know how. Its a high skill cap play for a rewarding experience. When I see a S/D win, i only clap. Heck you don’t even need to target anything on D/D, show me one other spec that can do that. I’ll show you D/D ele can’t, add me to friends, I’ll be happy to show.

Why are warriors the current FOTM in WvW?

I played Ele D/D for a while. Easiest spec I’ve ever played, win most of the time due to ridiculous sustain, coupled with burst a bunker shouldnt be allowed. Want proof? I’m down to 1v1 any of you on a d/d ele, just add my ID <——. 20% of the time I may not kill you, but you sure as hell wont kill me, cause when the going gets tough I can do something no other spec or class can and escape with one button. Not even thieves can do it in 1 button so fast, even shadow refuge runs the risk of being revealed if someone throws you out. Bunkering isn’t OP, other classes can do it. Its when a bunker can have the ridiculous mobility, and burst damage 8k (on Fire Grab easy, which you can combo with burning speed) without even having to target an enemy, all on 1 spec which makes them OP. That being said, ele’s aren’t a problem, its the spec which is. Show me any other spec you can play without even targeting an enemy, I’ve tested it all before.

On the topic at hand, warriors have always been popular. All the polls showed Human Male Warriors to be by far the most played character type in game. I just think its the idea of being Conan the Barbarian which gets most people excited. I think its more conceptual than anything. Warriors will be popular for a while, despite their Spvp shortcomings.

You can never go wrong partying with a guardian really, unless you dislike being buffed constantly for standing near them.

Warrior dmg nerf in spvp ?

I still don’t understand why warrior doesn’t have 1 skill to pull an enemy in when the issue is so blatant. Even thief has it, and with all those shadow steps they don’t even need scorpion wire most of the time.

I reckon if they changed kick, and made it “Pull”, so that it pulled an enemy in with a relative cool down, more warriors would be able to kill something.

Renewed Focus - Let's improve ?

I don’t think OP is too crazy. I mean, personally, the skill is a godsend in pvp and WvW, but in PvE I can see its lackluster ordeal. I’ve never had to use it in PvE, survivability isn’t an issue there… Perhaps they should rework the tomes though? I find the cool down+Loss of skills, isn’t worth the spells they grant for the time they grant it. I’d rather have an elite that actively healed, like, 2000 Health regain each second for, 8 seconds after popping? 120 second cool down, or something, for your allies more than anything but then, that just becomes OP for PvP/WvW, so I don’t know where you’d draw the line.

Overall though, Renewed Focus is an amazing skill

D/D ele is the best class for roaming 1v1 right now. If you immobilize them, only an idiot sits there not swapping to water, or doesnt use lightning flash, or some cantrip. They have the best mobility, can bunker just as well as guardians, while doing way more damage, critting for 7-8k on 1 firegrab if done right, right after a burning speed burst. Its downright broken how many things this one spec can do well, most people just give up chase instantly because catching a d/d ele in wvw means 2 things. Either they’re extremely bad, or you’re extremely good, and most people aren’t either. Including I’d assume everyone in this thread.

So, if you like the idea of a D/D ele, go make one now, because Anet has already said they’re getting the nerf hammer soon, and when Anet gets their hands on something, they basically make it obsolete. Ask Engineers. That being said, just play anything you want man, once you learn a class, there’s quite a few options to mess around with for each.

*Are* Warriors OP?

in Warrior

PistolWhip.2697

Warrior’s arent OP in pve, other classes are just UP, (save for mesmer and guardian). Its the same across the board, those 3 classes can just provide what others can and better. Thieves can provide dps, so can necromancers, albeit with conditions, so can rangers etc etc… Problem is, warrior out does them on this immensely, and while being slightly tankier. Most classes need a reworking or change here and there to excel in pve, like I said in another thread, they need to give them the chance to excel, like making a certain encounter require stealth to do most efficiently (Rather then using stealth to skip content) would make thieves useful. A ranger ability to send their pet out to ‘weaken’ the boss due to a dungeon mechanic would make them useful…etc etc…

So don’t hold out, pick what you like. If you want warrior pick them, just dont expect consistency in their popularity or lack of popularity, the meta is subject to a lot of changes down the line.

When I said Ranged Dominance, i tried to stress the conceptual side of it. Speaking in Lore Terms, Elementalists DO have a monopoly on ranged combat, and in fact were coined by Anet even in the first game to be the most ‘destructive’ of professions. Whether this was actually true in-game is questionable.

Gandalf could use a sword yes, but not a great sword. My point is just that, as forward thinking as we may be (I enjoy the concept of ninja d/d ele a lot, even if I feel the actual spec is overpowered) Anet has certain things in mind for each classes concept. I just don’t think they are too big on the idea of giving Ele any existent weapons… a new weapon perhaps, like a chain or whip (not the most creative but meh) seems more possible. That’s all I’m saying.

Sylvari -the sexiest playable race in Tyria?

I dunno, I’m the exact opposite, one of the really key things preventing me from playing a Sylvari is the badly done voices…. Or more so I just don’t like the accent. I can’t take them seriously…

Like for example the male cry of retaliation “I dare you! Hit me!” In fact, the voice chat program I’m on, my guild and I regularly imitate sylvari quotes for laughs, I just couldn’t main a character like that.

Though, I’am british myself so, I guess I just find the accent boring and mundane, and to be frank, like a shoddy impersonation of a british accent.

Haha we do the same, cept most of us are Northern so we use our local dialects to talk over Sylvari in cutscenes. My favourite so far has to be Geordie sylvari.

“Wy’eye man! Cmun then, l’box ya!”

I do enjoy the aesthetics of my Sylvari characters more than my others though. And the cultural armour is just amazing.

Lol! Nice man nice!

What you say does make sense, But there are still issues with using a great sword on Ele, such as 2. and 5. most notably. Another weapon set Anet could add yes, and they may even really want to but, Like I said, judging from Anet in GW 1, and so far in GW 2, they don’t like making changes as drastic as completely overhauling a class’ skills, or they would of done the same for Warriors in Spvp.

Thats agreeable, but that applies to almost every class but, Guardian, Mesmer and Warrior. So its not a specific ranger issue, but more so a issue to do with classes being outdone by others in PvE and PvE Mechanics.

I mean, pve is all about enemies with loads of hp who do a lot of damage right? High End Pve Anyway, that favours Guardians, and warriors because Guardians mitigate damage and warriors do damage. Mesmers help because they have useful innate skills.

Say, if they were to add sections into dungeons where you could fight a golem boss head on but it would be very difficult, or you could send an AI Pet (Ranger pets) through a small “crack” to disable the life support systems of the Golem and make it heaps easier, Rangers would be an asset to have, you know?

I’m highly doubtful Anet will give Ele’s greatswords or swords or more weapons outside 1 or 2 in an expansion and here’s why:

1. Ele’s already have a huge plethora of skills due to their attunements, meaning each weapon is really 4 weapons, 3×4 = 12. So technically, Ele’s have access to 12 different weapon skill sets. Mathematically anyway… In practice, its not so clear cut but the general idea is, they make up for their low number of choices in physical weaponry, with their high number of choices in elemental ability.

2. One of the classes (Warrior) is centered around being the lord of versatile melee (whether this is true or not). Conceptually, a warrior’s boon is all his arsenal of weapons to choose from, and any class, Ele or not, gaining another weapon choice is an indirect nerf to their conceptual design…. I hope this makes sense?

3. Its also one of the things special to Mesmer, and signifies a ‘battle mage’. Ele’s aren’t meant to be close up quarter casters with tricks to confuse enemies to stay close. (although you have the choice to be one with Dagger sets, which is neat!). This is also why I think you never see an Ele with anything but a staff in concept art, to signify its ranged dominance and sorcerer attitude. If you’re looking for a battle mage, which has an active and offensive play style with great sword, I’d say Mesmer is your bet, well, that’s what Anet implies anyway lol.

4. It just doesn’t make much sense to have a magic user, based around affinity to elements and knowledge, to have the upper body strength to carry the great sword. Mesmers I can justify, seeing as they can bend reality itself, it makes a plausible sense for them to be able to manipulate the weight of the great sword so it is light as a feather. For Ele’s I can find no justification.

5. Lastly, the elite which uses the Fiery Great sword would have to be changed, and something new added. Anet is a company that doesn’t like making big changes, especially ones that may upset a player base with such a drastic change. (There are some out there who wouldn’t like losing the elite, or a great sword otherwise for their Ele.) Heck, they even decided the changes they wanted in Guild Wars Utopia (a cancelled expansion) for the first game was too much, so they made a new game entirely.

For these reasons, I doubt it will ever happen… any time soon anyway. Though, its Anet’s final say, so either way, I hope everyone gets what they want to a degree.

I havent read through all the posts so apologies if this was already mentioned but, Warriors are fairly sought after in certain content yes…

But if you really wanna feel loved, make a guardian. They’re almost necessary for all the high-end pve content, and a boon (hehe) to have on any team in any setting. One of the only classes I think Anet made perfectly tbh.

1) The Ranger has a pet and doesn’t need to be in melee range to deal his max amount of damage at all times. His pet can sub in and actually CC the target for him to close gaps… so he really doesn’t need any gap closer to start.

If a Warrior is using Greatsword he needs to stay in melee range to do anything.

I is so confused!?! Are these guys for reals? Ranger envy?

Who’s next? Engineers?

Rangers actually aren’t that bad right now. I always see all these posts about how UP Ranger is. or Engineer is, yet, some of the strongest people in the spvp setting are Rangers and Engineers. Warriors are in the worst spot right now, and Vanthian, who is an excellent warrior by the way, speaks more in the spvp sense I believe.

Seriously, Ranger’s really aren’t in that bad of a state right now, in comparison to a warrior, the only thing warrior has is damage as an innate class specialty, which is complete stupidity, as its all so predictable I could evade warrior attacks in my sleep. The only time Warriors become assets to a team rather than a free rally for the other team because we all know that as soon as you focus a warrior with 2 or more players, they’re screwed, is large battles where their CC, general all round martial support etc, is very effective, and in PvE.

A class shouldn’t feel only effective in special situations, thats not fair. Having played all the classes for fair amounts of time, (I had a class identity crisis where I couldn’t decide a main) Warrior was by far one of the most challenging outside of General PvE and CoF farming.

Ele D/D was faceroll and possibly the easiest spec I’ve ever played, seriously, I’ll record it one day but, I can take on 2 people by pressing 2345, on everything but earth, where I only use Churning Earth in special circumstances as its too slow, and makes me vulnerable, then swapping attunes win, without using more than 1 Cantrip.

Rangers, Spam traps and run around bunkering while my pet does damage a bunker shouldnt be able to on the point and keep it.

Guardian? All that sustain.

Engineer? When played to their potential has all the tools needed to counter most if not every class.

Mesmer? Most players got outsmarted by the simplest tricks, but a bag full of tricks, like a thief with a backup posse.

Thieves? Admittedly the 2nd hardest for me to play oddly enough, I put time into it, and only managed to beat people who weren’t the newest of new when I learned to time, position and keep away from unnecessary damage.

Necromancer? So much CC and corruption+conditions that I think I’d literally laugh at warriors with /laugh most of the time.

Warrior? One of the hardest things I’ve ever had to play competitively. Timing, positioning, not blowing your cool downs at stupid times, taking risks and hits for the pay off damage you output, effectively managing your kite options, etc etc…

I don’t see how anyone who’s played more than just a ranger could ever say they were in a bad spot, especially in comparison to warriors. Rangers need tune-ups, Warriors need a re-haul.

So why are you a Human?

in Human

Posted by: PistolWhip.2697

PistolWhip.2697

Where to begin? I’m a human sure, but there’s so much more depth and involvement to it. I’ve always been one to enjoy the lore around Guild Wars, starting from the first game up until now. The humans are on the brink of collapse, losing all their influence and power, and fighting a 2 sided battle against the Centaurs and the separatists, and till not long ago, the Charr. Although I also love the Charr as a race, humans just seem to represent the most powerful concepts to me.

I see the Charr as ferocity, discipline, doing what has to be done in the name of duty.

I see the Sylvari as happy go lucky optimists who are curious.

I see the Asura as geniuses, only faulted by their own arrogance.

I see the Norn as boastful loud people, proud of themselves and their heritage.

But above all of these, I see the humans as all these qualities and more. They can literally be any of these things, but they are adaptation. They are hope when all the odds are against you. A true example of the underdog. As a player heavily into lore, I wouldn’t want my hero to be anything but a human, being the last expected race among the 5 to come out on top, and lead Tyria into glory again.

Plus, the cultural armors for the most part, kick kitten

Shelter Heal Skill bug

in Guardian

Posted by: PistolWhip.2697

PistolWhip.2697

Basically, long story short, I’m wondering if anyone else has noticed Shelter’s particular behaviour as a heal skill when interrupted.

When any other heal skill is interrupted, they are given a short 4 second or around abouts cool down, But for some reason Shelter goes into the full 30 seconds on interrupt meaning you lose out on the heal.

I don’t believe this is intended as it seems like a silly thing to put in for a random guardian heal skill, so as a bug what are your experiences with the skill? I’ve tested it and it does so everytime. Anet fix it please :P
