Seems somewhat OP even from an Ele perspective. It would mean the damage increase would have to be very very minimal as most of us with valk’s knight mixes etc alrdy do around 4-6k crits on our spike. Giving attunement swaps such a low cool down would give us absurd damage with the increase, aoe and single target, then we also have sustainable healing and CC. I can understand the need for Low cool downs as it makes the gameplay more engaging and active though sadly this may push us back into OP specs.

So far the changes havent really changed much for a lot of us lol, let us see what Anet has in mind.

I didn’t argue that they should roll a warrior – they’re Anet’s glory child, so that’s a safe bet. What I said was I would steer them clear of the warrior forum.

The Ele forums are just as bad if not worse. Since the patch, I’ve had 4 different people actually openly mock my ele for being a crybaby on the forums. All this mindless QQing has really given our community as a reputation for being a bunch of whiners and crybabies over nerfs other classes get too. Anyway that saddens me but more than anything I wanted to ask where people get this ridiculous statement from?

Lets actually compare some classes:

Warrior:
PvE – Great
WvW- Moderate
SPvP – Horrible. So bad that the pvp community has given it its on baby tier. Its really sad to see.

Ele:
PvE – Bad (arguably moderate as I find it insulting that other ele’s inability makes mine look bad but, I will give the rest of the community the benefit of the doubt)
SPvP – Godly before patch, very good after patch.
WvW- Moderate (arguably good but moderate seems to be consensus)

Guardian:
PvE – Godly, more so than the warrior, being the only profession required for high end pve content.
SPvP – Very good and popular
WvW – Very good especially for group fights

Mesmer:
PvE – Very useful utilities such as portal and timewarp and way more. Making them great for content due to unique toolkit.
SPvP – Godly, to the point when a mesmer beats someone its almost expected. As a witty man once said “It takes more skill to beat a mesmer than it does to play one”.
WvW – Used to be insanely good in zerg fights, stacking confusion with lethality akin to Guardian Retal. After patch still amazinfly formidable but low innately mobile.

I would honestly say there are better candidates for this “Golden Child” award mindlessly being thrown. Interestingly enough, many would say Mesmer was the OP golden child of anet in GW1, and looking at these above…

Guardians are better than warriors period. I’ve mained both for a period, tested both extensively. Guardians just have so much more. Triple Meditation says hello for Damage by the way.

Of course Warriors and Guardians shouldn’t be the same, but if Guardians have the option to damage, Warriors should have the option to Sustain, 1.3k per shout heal is kitten poor compared to the health pool, and takes up room for very useful utilities like a Stability pop.

PistolWhip, I respectfully disagree. If both classes had similar beginning stats then I would agree but the sheer 700-800 vitality difference is where the sustain comes into play. You won’t see guardians rocking crazy big numbers without some weakness. Also, meditations do not offer a ton of damage opportunity besides smite condition if it has a condition and crits. JI is not a great ability for damage. Low damage and a 3 second burn is not huge bonus to damage. I’ve played meditations, AH, Healway, and Boonway. I have yet to find the mother of all builds where I can absorb a ton of damage, put out huge numbers, and have crazy amounts of heals going. I have wasted countless hours on build craft trying to find the perfect mix…

Well I have to respectfully disagree with some parts too. I agree that we shouldn’t compare classes, I didn’t mean to compare traits or skills and such, but more so, how well one is made in comparison to another for its uses.

I can honestly hand on heart say having played both Guardian and Warrior extensively in spvp, my time as a Guardian was unbelievable. Honestly, triple meditation did amazing damage, and I had relative toughness still even with all this damage. Not to mention, every melee class, especially thieves fell flat because my plethora of blocks and blinds destroyed all their attacks. One obstacle I could never beat on my Guardian was a good mesmer, but I don’t know if thats because certain Mesmer builds are overpowered in 1v1, or my playstyle just had its achilles heal there. Then again I also havent found a build to counter them well on Warrior either. Subjective experience plays a big role here, obviously but for me I still stand Guardian is far better made and fleshed out, and can do amazing things with just 1 build, let alone the others.

Honestly, If warriors could have nearly as much sustain and staying power as a guardian, I’d gladly sacrifice Killshot. Please, take it. Its terrible in a lot of fights in my experience, then again I find it easy to evade because I’ve played warrior enough to know the animation to the teeth even in group fights, in zergs I get caught yes, but if all you’re using is rifle in zerg fights, that is questionable I’d say.

So honestly, take my kill shot, and give me some of what Guardian’s have thank you.

I did, and I stand by it. To be honest, I extend my sympathies, if this nerf is hitting some of you other ele’s this hard, I only considered that I had no trouble and thought it would extend to the majority. Its my fault for being short sighted I guess.

That’s because BM Rangers emphasize staying power and toughness and let their pet kill you. Aside from all the ridiculousness of that build, they focus on staying power. You know what the one class with hardly any staying power is? Warrior, that is why they make you fall flat :P.

I also am looking into Warhorn, perma swiftness can be neat!

I was more so being sarcastic. I just hate seeing other ele’s complain about how good Warriors have it. Its like they ignore the multitude of problems Warriors have, and how they are regarded widely as one of the weakest classes outside PvE.

Ele’s have problems, but RTL is the least of our worries, we have other things Dev’s should focus on that take precedence. I don’t mind taking an extra 20 seconds to go somewhere if it means I can use Staff in a 1v1 viably in the future.

RTL is miles better and yet they keep asking for Rush on a warrior’s bar. If they want it, let them have it. I’m willing to suffer through it on my ele just so you guys get how stupid it is to compare both skills.

Tho RTL doesnt have a knock down, the Updraft shouldn’t be a part of this convo tbh, its a separate skill, so like Rush RTL doesnt have a knock down either.

How do you deal with Rangers?

Lol, well to be fair there are a lot of rangers I run into that are horrible. Like they sit there in my face with a longbow then when I kill them at melee range they complain. One of the saddest truths is, Melee Rangers destroy, while ranges Rangers usually bend over backwards and take it.

The Class is one of the best tiers in Spvp, PvE solo content is apparently easy as hell, that’s all rangers tell me. The problem is, most rangers are terrible at playing it seems, and its a class that is far more noticeable because it doesn’t have mechanics to fall on. I honestly have come across horrible rangers who would rather come here and complain then learn to play.

Mesmers are everyones greatest enemy. Have you ever tried fighting a Phantasm mesmer 1v1? It’s almost impossible to win. Mesmers are a bad example to bring into convo as a counter is all I’m saying :P good feedback tho!

I honestly think it might be worth adding more heals rather than improving our heals.

For example, if when the burst skill popped thanks to a trait you get regen and a small heal % proportional to health. This would make adrenaline a good healing mechanic as well as offense.

Retaliation also wouldnt be a bad step, or protection, any up front soldier class should have access to those two, don’t even have access to direct regen kitten

Well, they are very hard to pressure as a lot of them run bunker beast master regen builds, which regenerate ridiculous amounts of HP on par with our water attunements, can have 3.3k armor and yet have pets that can do 3k crit auto attacks. I almost had my eyes pop out my skull when my guildy demonstrated to me how his pet can auto crit for 3k…Thats more than my berserker warrior can hit in a autoattack single. Sorry, what were we talking about again?…

PvE, Ele’s aren’t really in as good of a spot as they are in WvW in Spvp.

I personally added some knight’s pieces to mine and still works very well.

Its all subjective though. I have a guildie who mains guardian, jumping on his ele from time to time, and whenever we run a dungeon he laughs and enjoys himself greatly, as he is very formidable in dungeons. He uses the regular D/D setup, with a mix of valks and knights, I think he might have a piece of cleric or two dunno though… Havent asked in a while.

D/D still works great and is viable. Most people who are complaining about its nerf are bads that need to learn to play. If I can jump on my D/D ele with green gear, and roll face on 2 people, (Although 3 or more is hard, especially with green masterwork gear).

So can you. I’m not specially skilled, neither are all my opponents terrible as statistically speaking, at least some have to be decent or better when you count how many people you encounter.

Kill shot is hard to avoid in big groups yes, but I must ask if you’re dealing with someone else already, why so many Ele’s expect to get off in 2v1’s easy. If its a 2v2 situation, I would ask your friend to occupy the warrior. I often find many misguided Ele’s thinking they should be able to solo groups alone. No class should, not to any half decent group.

Anyway, I don’t wanna bring a debate to this topic, more so, I wouldn’t quit on D/D, still works great. One of the more fun and viable sets on ele That’s how I feel though.

Also, I can understand the need to get an overview but you should keep comparisons minimal in balancing. The problem is, every class has different mechanics and functions which work in different ways. To compare an Ele to a warrior is silly. Warriors have more damage but that’s all they have, and it has been proven time and time again that due to sustained healing+perma protection any Ele worth their salt can tank people better than a warrior can with use of skills and evades due to vigor up-time.

Ele as a class has its issue as every class does, and I feel its best to look at the mechanics themselves rather than compare damage to another class, for one the damage is far different in access, functionality and methodology. If any class had to be a good balance base though, its not warrior. They are tremendously good in pve, are the worst class in spvp, to the point people will openly mock you for playing them and decent in WvW. The 2 most balanced Classes right now are arguably Mesmer and Guardian who fill their roles very well in all game modes and excel at a lot of different areas. Its generally best to aim for their status quo in PvE, PvP and WvW.

I don’t see the problem with making RTL exactly like a Warrior’s Rush on Greatsword.

This includes, the same speed, the same effected by CC and cool down etc.

Of course, this would ignore the many issues warrior has as a class, but that’s for another topic indeed.

How would it please other Ele’s to have RtL exactly like Rush as a skill? I would’t mind it, but then again….

If you’re having balance issues I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but RTL aint one.

As an Ele player I have every right to post here. I reckon you should stop posting all over the forums on how you’re going to quit the game or ele because of this patch and do us all a favour and actually do it.

My paragon was called Pistol Whippz In GW1 and I loved to Pistol Whip enemies in horde mode in gears of war 2 with my friends, hence the name. Are you actually stupid enough to believe I named my account name after a skill? And even if I did that this directly makes me a thief player?

If I’m so bad, why am I having no problem with thieves while you get apparently murdered by them? If you want, I can teach you how to fight them, its not hard.

D/D is my short hand for Cantrip Ele, S/D was never an issue to me as it requires skill to play, and thought. D/D is a faceroll smack keyboard win spec.

I don’t know. My son mains a thief and he doesn’t seem to find the recent changes that hard. He does dungeons with us, SPvP, WvW…he’s coping just fine. Do you think thieves have more of a right to complain than say rangers and engies?

And rangers and engies can do okay too.

There are a lot of people who are damage mad. They really believe damage is the only thing that matters. Some of us think that other stuff matters too.

on the opposite side.

See how they were in fear to nerf too much stealth and replaced anticipated nerf with a smaller slight 1 second revealed…

Then thougt it was too much and they would probably take it away…..

Then we see a 150% nerf to the key spell of a class along with other 5 MAJOR nerfs for ANY weaponset…..
Plus an hate mechanic

And they don t think for a second it could be too much…its not thief or warrior.

Is even worse then what they did to engineer….that is one of the “other classes” they don t care about.

As i say……every patch i question my self “will i still be playing Tomorrow?”
Is this how they expect we will await their work?

I play an Engineer and I’m not having the same struggle others apparently are. I still feel quite godly with the bomb kit in PVe and in SPvP and WvW I do quite well.

Sure people complain about nerfs. They always do. It doesn’t mean things are actually as bad as they say they are.

And I’m sure more changes are coming, but they won’t come all at once…nor should they.

I agree with Vayne, I have a very good friend in my guild who mains an Engi and he often laughs in glee at owning people while repeating “Engi’s are so OP dude haha!”.

If you’re having trouble it seems to be a L2 kitten ue.

This philosophy you seem to of brainwashed yourself with that Thieves and warriors are Anet’s favourites are false. First of, thieves have had more nerfs to them then any other classes combined. I’d like to see Ele get that many nerfs, you’d probably have a mental break down if this is the outlet of one nerf that is needed to fix an overpowered spec.

In the case of warriors, PvE is fine yes. WvW is to an extent, although their solo roaming capabilities are fairly lackluster compared to some other classes but I suspect Anet doesn’t want them to Solo roam as a class, just like they don’t want Ele too either apparently.

PvP however is just a travesty. I’ve seen good players overcome enemies on Warrior in Spvp but, the overall balance is so unfair its almost laughable. Warriors are almost always disregarded in competitive tournament play for this reason, with even thieves who suck at capping points due to their only defense mechanic, being favourable in most cases to Warrior.

Anet I’d guess is slowly trying to bring warrior up to a level playing field in spvp without making them too overpowered in pvE, and that’s understandably hard. But these are steps in the right direction.

Think of it like this, the Op D/D spec in WvW and Spvp was holding back Ele buffs overall as it would make it even more Godly. With it out of the way as a worry mostly, Anet can now focus on buffing Ele in other parts without worry. That seems fair.

A thief player? Why do you think every one who has a legitimate proposal of the Old Spec being overpowered is a thief player? You probably don’t read anybodies posts, most recently I posted about how I haven’t touched my thief in months.

Ele’s are easy, they always have BEEN easy. because most people who play them are bangwagoning kitten who can’t play.

I merely have a gripe with feeling too powerful and godmode when I play my ele in WvW. Its why I stopped, owning everyone got boring.

Also, thieves need a major boost in WvW. Me only dying to 1 thief since December in WvW is not OK. I’m not a very good player, I don’t care for this game enough to get better, and yet thieves are so easy. Stealth is predictable, they can’t do anything outside stealth, and the last thing they need is more damage. Anet has finally realized this and is giving them viable options like S/D.

Maybe this OP D/D Cantrip spec getting nerfed for Ele, will allow Anet to balance the rest of the class and make the needed changes without having the worry about making this spec even more over powered. View it as a positive change, with long term merits.

Don’t feel intimidated by what some of the people here are saying. Long story short, a popularized overpowered spec for the Elementalist is getting fixed today and so many of them are bitter they can’t easy Godmode anymore.

Elementalist is like any other class, same learning curve (easiest for me, harder for him, easier for her, etc etc), all depends on your preference and playstyle. It has a few more buttons to press yes, but difficulty can hardly be summarized with numbers of buttons can it? Some classes do however only bloom towards the later levels. Thief and Elementalist are two examples of these, as is Mesmer. You have to commit and stick with them till later levels to get the best out of your experience with them, as they are substantially weak during their beginning without traits+utilities that keep them alive.

But they all even out with the others later so, don’t worry.

Just go for whatever you want. Elementalist you’ll pick up mostly in a matter of days so don’t worry and enjoy the game! Any guild you join worth their salt will let you run whatever class you want in a dungeon regardless of what the PvE meta is… if you really wanna min/max meta in PvE, I’d make a guardian though.

ahh the legend that mesmers has no AoE.
When they were actually the AoE profession to go for WWW…until Tomorrow at least.

But i think that even with a 30-50% nerf they will be viable…just 2 of them won t be enough to manipulate zerg wars….

For the patch…well the last time i saw something like that some dev were playing and tried to get an advantage with Patches while nerfing characters they had problem to beat (was not a mmorpg).

And the game sold almost 2 million copies….(then, as will happen with gw2 was deserted in less than a year despite a really faithful fanbase that were kitten off with false promises of balancing…..you see any similarity?).

No. I don’t.

Have you checked the mesmer forums? They are saying basically mesmer is useless in WvW now or Confusion is a joke now, resembling the QQ on the Ele forums. Its funny how every single user on their class seems to think they’re the underdog getting some huge crippling nerf, when all of you guys need to L2P.

They also have a set of very obvious weaknesses. AoE absolutely massacres their phantasms and clones, the source of most of their damage. The have very little AoE themselves. Also, they have almost no condition removal without taking a trait that removes one on heal, or using a utility slot. They are however, exceptional duelists, but almost all of their builds struggle against heavy AoE, especially HGH engis and D/D or staff elementalists.

I picked one up for awhile to pvp on and learn their strengths and weaknesses so I could beat them more easily on my ele. Never realized how easy it is to tell the difference between them and their clones in some instances. Also, never let them have phantasms up if possible, they hit like trucks and will keep hitting you even if the Mesmer is downed.

Yup, despite all that, they are a powerful class. As is Guardian. In my opinion 2 of the best balanced classes in game. Both extremely useful in PvP, PvE and WvW. They need to make more classes as viable for any game mode imo

Nerf hammer is going to be dropped very hard.

However, the one change I don’t understand is the inability to heal while in mist form.
That’s completely uncalled for.
I believe every class has an invulnerable skill and while in that skill they can heal. Correct me if I am wrong.

No other class has an Invulnerability that stops CC and Conditions as well as damage. Endure Pain means you can pile conditions on a warrior which is their main weakness and if they use Endure Pain then try to heal just KD them, Stun them etc because it has no CC immunity unlike Mist Form. it is also on a longer cool down.

The guardian Elite Skill Renewed Focus has a longer cool down and takes up the slot of an elite skill. It also doesn’t directly allow for a heal skill but it allows the popping of virtues and recharges them, which I’m guessing is based around the Guardian philosophy of being a living tank, or damage sponge most of the time.

Elixir S is the closest and basically the same thing as Mist Form, and that’s getting a nerf too, so its not just Ele’s its in general that kind of immunity skill. I honestly think maybe Anet wanted the skills not to originally be used as “Oh kitten” buttons but more so a button to soak up the burst of your opponent when you tactically activate it, then go on the offensive or something.

You can in some sense measure ease of play by the number of different buttons that needs to be pressed during a fight to maintain DPS.

Warriors speced for critical damage (zerker) is very easy in that regard as you’re more or less bouncing between 2-3 buttons.

Elementalists however end up jumping all over the keyboard because of the need to mix attunements, fields and finishers to get the DPS.

I’d have to disagree there my friend! More buttons I feel doesn’t always mean more difficulty. Some classes have a different kind of difficulty, based on positioning, timing, movement, etc. I’d argue warriors are one of the hardest classes to play in certain parts of the game, especially glassy, as they have literally no way to sustain themselves or recover aside from their heal skill. Ele’s however do, as you can see, I found Elementalist to be the easiest class myself, where as you may of found it different. That’s why I started this thread, such differences in experience.

If you perma stow pets you will effectively lose 50% or round abouts of your damage. if you’re fine with that then all hats off to ya!

PvE players asking for PvP to be removed… PvP Players asking for PvE to be removed, WvW players asking for both to be removed… You guys need to learn to play nicer methinks xD

Dare I say they only complain about it because experienced players have such an easy time with them. The key i think here is that warrior attacks are so easily telegraphed and countered. QQ is on every Forum.

Thief, Guardian, Ele etc…

I think its just player mentality in general.

And to be fair what solo pve content isn’t default easy anyway? Aside from the skill point in queensdale where that bandit kicks people in the kitten >:(

I have to disagree Stale. I honestly don’t know why people assume warriors are the strongest in pve content. I must argue Guardians are far stronger and can monopolize pve alone. I main a guardian of sorts right now, and my guild runs full guardian teams to face roll even dungeons like Arah, because we can tank bosses with so much healing and boons. Me rolling along heals allies around me for near 1k kitten it.

Therefore I’d argue that although warrior is next best, Guardian is far superior in a pve setting of any hard difficulty, it is after all, the only class required for higher level fractals.

I play all professions. (Eight 80’s and working on more).

None of them have been difficult to learn.

I play mesmer, warrior, wells necro as my “mains”.

I prefer some over others. Depending on PvE outdoors, Fractals, Explorables or WvW.

“Playing”, “Playing well”, and “Mastery” are all points on a sliding scale based on a combination of many factors (all of which I believe are highly individualized.) And probably affects the perception of “difficulty” and enjoyment. I sound like I know what I’m talking about, right? <rolleyes>

People have 7 different intelligences. Not everyone has the same mix of intelligences, any of them not necessarily at the same level as another person, nor necessarily all of them at any level.

Some professions might be “intuitive” for some players to pick up, others may be a stuggle.

Not sure a “poll” will result in useful information regarding professions themselves.

The discussion will more likely reflect how people think.

Indeed! And that’s why I was curious, see, I often see people talking about some classes being harder to play, or having a really high skill cap (no doubt to make themselves look good most of the time) so I wanted to see if this was all individual. Though there are patterns like, in PvE Warriors and Guardians often seem to have an easy place in this thread, the individual small changes are very interesting to see, so to all you say I full heartedly agree and thank you for your contribution to this thread.

Actually Yuki, most of the QQ seems to be about the RtL changes, many eles are openly saying Mist Form nerf was warranted as was Water Trait tree… I don’t know how representative this forum is though, its generally a vocal minority in the game, most don’t even come here.

Hey there guys!

It seems that many people have different experiences on a vast scale in this game to the point where they feel different about the classes and of course their difficulty. I’m actually interested to see what classes people find the most difficult to play and in what game modes so I started a thread about it.

Basically my request is that you list 3 things:

- What game mode you currently play the most. Select 1 – (pve,pvp,wvw)
- How difficult do you find each class to play. – Hardest to easiest (also if you havent played a class enough to decide, specify)
- What do you main as a class? Or what 2, 3, etc classes would you consider mains?

I’ll go first:

1. WvW
2. -Thief (Hardest for me)
-Warrior/Mesmer
-Guardian
-Elementalist (Easiest for me)

Classes I don’t play enough: Necromancer, Ranger, Engineer.

3. Currently Guardian but playing warrior a lot lately.

What's the intended play style for ele D/D?

No ones arguing for Bunker build damage…do you even read? How can any of you say when you build an ele for damage, it doesn’t do any? On a purely statistical platform, any class traiting+building for damage will do it.

Go to Spvp, put on a berserker amulet, put together a creative build based around burst. Use it on a target dummy, and notice how all the numbers are the same as any other class going glass.

Perhaps because anyone who builds a bunker Ele for point camping or WvWvW roaming is obviously not building for damage, but survivability and sustain?

An Ele who wants to survive builds to survive, nearly all D/D bunkers start out on PVT and eventually move to Knight’s as they get more comfortable with the lower health pool and access to healing. A D/D Ele built with Berserker’s is about as effective in PvP and WvWvW as a houseplant.

The arguments on these forums from pro-nerfers is always that Eles are capable of doing massive damage and bunker like no one else. What they fail to note in their rants is that it is not an AND operation, but an OR. An Ele can build for DPS or survivability, but not both.

And anyone who says otherwise is just propagating lies and fiction. I guarantee that any top tier PvP or WvWvW Ele player is not running full zerk while in D/D, anyone who says otherwise just wants free Ele kills.

Oddly enough, that doesn’t address what I’m saying. OP seems to think that even if you build for damage with say zerker, you can’t do DPS, and when the 2nd poster corrected him he was criticized for saying he builds for damage and thus can achieve it. I was merely criticizing those who criticized him is all. My point about bunker is that you can’t say a bunkers damage is subpar compared to other classes because a bunker has sub par damage off the initial step.

Its like saying my bunker guardian does no damage, of course it doesn’t its not meant to. That’s all im addressing, not how viable zerker or dps specs are on ele, just that if you spec for damage you can have it, there’s no physical limitation stopping you.

Because it was a silly change. It was meant to target perma-stealthing and such. I can still keep spamming CnD and timing it so I don’t get revealed 4 seconds or not, I can’t really fathom what the reasoning for the change was from revealed always, to 4 seconds. Culling also had a part in all this debauchery too I’d assume.

It can get boring. Surprisingly enough, I started on thief and camped on it for long long months, I haven’t touched it in ages, making me the opposite to most of you switching to thief now. In general I find GW2 is a game where every class can just get boring after a while, I wish it had GW1’s skill variety.

Anets nerf, or change or whatever to revealed should be reverted back though, because it was stupid. The whole idea was to stop perma/chain stealthing people do in wvw, but it became a change only making it harder for legitimate thieves. The 3 seconds after every stealth whether you attack or not seemed more appropriate, I wonder why they took that route.

I specifically remember people proposing it should be affected by slows initially… and a lot of the ele community vehemently denying it, even if it made sense as being the only movement skill that couldn’t be (apparently).

Its odd that so many are now advocating it to be a good idea… o.o

Yeah, Thief is so favoured by Devs. Getting all those nerfs, lucky kittens. Having more nerfs then any of the other classes combined (this is true, look it up), makes them a sure-shot of favouritism.
