I’m still happy with Tornado. And now we get FIRE tornado! We can even have swiftness and protection while channeling it?

You are part of the problem…unless being sarcastic. No one likes Tornado.

Since Patch Tornado is at least for PVP and WvW most valuable Elite Skill. Just trait Air and Water and you nuke everything with it, get healing and vigor etc. Tornado is since a long time pretty awesome if you know how 2 Play it.

Uh.. I don’t know if this was mentioned but, you’re not rooted when overloading. In fact, you gain swiftness/protection. If staff ele can pull off meteor shower and dagger churning earth.. I’m not too worried about the occasional interrupt.

Hopefully they’ll reduce the cool down on overloading so it only locks you out for 10s or so.

Yes, you are not rooted but you don’t need to be in range to interrupt skills.

the tempest sucks, you can disagree all you want, it doesn’t make it less true.

Prove it sucks, then you can have some valid argument here.

1. let’s see the tempest doesn’t add anything that elementalist lacks. All the things it brings we could already do extremely well. Nobody ever goes “gee I wish elementalist support wasn’t good”.
2. The class mechanic is unusable against opponents that have something called a brain, it only works against PvE mobs.
3. Ironically, the class mechanic is actually better on the staff than the warhorn.
4. the elite suck since it requires far too much coordination short of mind sharing, it will be wasted on an auto attack.
5. The shouts are not better than cantrips. Cantrips are still going to be the best.
6. The tempest isn’t going to change our dependence on either arcane or water.

The most important thing is #2, the class mechanic sucks.
Guild wars 2 has a lot of interrupts good luck getting off a skill with 2.75-5 sec cast time. IF you do get the skill off, the attunement has a 15 to 20 CD which is long considering the elementalist needs to attunement dance. If you get interrupted which is extremely easy, the overcharge and attunement goes on full CD.

I am speaking strictly PvP and WvW, PvE is not relevant. anything and everything can work.

Since you love asking questions, why don’t you tell me why tempest doesn’t suck. (actually don’t bother).

Okay, I’m really in a bad mood, but could you stop fanboying ANet so much? You’re the only one I keep seeing defending it. Just look at it. It does exactly what ele can do already, but it has a kitten mechanics. What’s good about it? Why would you take this over attunement swap which does exactly the same and doesn’t lock you in one attunement?

No point arguing with you, you’re gonna keep saying how awesome it is. Well, there you go. I know the skills and I’m even more disappointed. Happy now?

It can’t be doing “exactly the same thing” and be different at the same time.

Also, while it definitely may not be the optimal offhand ever (then again maybe it is), there will always be people using it.

This self proclaimed optimal build nonsense is only cared about by a very minor group in Guild Wars 2. If the warhorn is fun to play then alot of people will actually play it. You can be in a bad mood over a silly design decision all you want (it’s not worth it), but you’re out of depth if you think no one will use it.

Generally speaking it is a good idea to assume pvp and wvw. In pve anything is viable, the people who dont care are sticking to pve. We are talking big boi stuff not fights against stupid mobs.

If you get interrupted the attunement goes on a 15 to 20 CD, luckily for ele. Interrupts are not very common in guild wars 2.

They are in PvP now. Its a 2.5 obvious channel of course it will be interrupted.

Cele ele has actual weaknesses? The only one I can think of is chill kittening with cooldowns.

Also if you go on reddit you’ll realize that pretty much all the complainers about this spec are like 30 people just sitting here on the forums. People on reddit are as a whole much more positive about the elite spec, meaning that the oppostition of people on this forum is nothing more than a salty vocal minority whose complaints won’t change anything.

Who cares about reddit? A lot of people like shinny new things, they don’t think or worry about the details.

A few people were talking about how protection and swiftness will prevent you from being interrupted. The point being redditors are sheepies who are easily manipulated.

They don’t care about details, they just see new things and blindly follow. And if you have a youtube channel? you are a god to them.

Yeap Anet has their ears to the ground man. They got the vibe of what’s really core of Elementalist game play. I mean it’s a long time known fact ANet has it’s finger on the pulse of the Elementalist community. It’s not surprising at all they delivered some really solid and exciting changes. I mean when I think Elementalist right now, I think selfish player. Limited to no team support. Limited field generation for others to combo with. No utilities that can be shared with other people. Don’t even get me started on the small amount of boon sharing. Before Tempest we didn’t even have shouts to share boons!

I can’t wait till Friday to see all the exciting new stuff with Tempest that really finally gives us the ability to support our team.

All I can say is: #believeinkarl. I think he has earned it.

Reaper will be SLow as hell and shut down by merely being ranged and capable of kiting, people will still be using it in pvp and it prolly still work in a way, Just because ONE proffession counters it, doesnt make it useless Everything NEEDS to have a counter.

It’s in the description that every overcharge of attunement will take anywhere between 2.75 to 5 seconds. So anyone with atleast a bit of a brain and CC can have a go at the Tempest going Overcharge.

Apparently a trait with an 8.66 mininum CD, which provides 2 second worth of stability, will protect you while you channel 2.75 to 5 seconds skills.

Afterall, positioning and brains will save you. Sometimes I wonder if people assume everybody is stupid.

I’m pretty sure you don’t play pvp or if you do not at decent level. Basically in a pvp match with people who actually are competent any major channeling skill will be interrupted in no time. Not everyone plays at the lowest skill ceiling.

So, EotM give more exp then world completing? Time wise.

crafting or Eotm is the fastest way to level. Short of tomes which you don’t have. follow the karma train. It is boring, but it will get the job done.

Guessing no? /15 characters

Ele never stops being squishy. EVER. You have to learn to not get hit. Also if you want to quickly level. The faster way to level is to either by crafting to get by the terrible hump that is 30 to 60 Or going to EoTM and following the karma train with a staff. That’s it.

The ele never becomes less squishy until 80 when you can make up with traits and skills and armor.

We also don’t know all the traits they could easily make a trait that grants 1 stack of stability for 3-5 seconds when you use a shout and make it a grandmaster.

We already have a trait that gives us stab every 8 sec if we want to attune to earth that often. Necro can get stab every 8-10 seconds.

It is entirely possible the tempest trait line will have something similar. You know how a mesmer gets no stab but can trait a gm trait and get it every 15 sec.

This is really a weak assumption

shoutwar ran banner for so long… key is positioning, use your brain and avoid getting interrupted. or use rock solid.

That stability requires you to take earth. So you are going to switch to earth get a 2 second stability so you can use a 2.75 to 5 second channeling, bloody brilliant. I cannot believe I failed to see the brilliance of that combination. I guess the class mechanic has been fixed, go home.

It wont have any synergy, Sceptar Just sucks lol, by the pure looks from the info on it this is going to be a 100% Burst Melee Ranged weapon set, So will come More in line with Shorter ranged weapons such as the dagger.

Dagger mainhand will stay in… we’ll Just run around like Necromancers now, with the Dagger/Warhorn saying that, Necros playstyle is ALOT of fun, so im fully welcoming this new weapon set not to mention both the new mechanics look awesome as a whole.

The necro d/w plays more like the d/d to a certain degree, while the ele d/w plays more like the necro’s d/d to me.

Yea frontline Hammer Warriors, Hammer Guardians and hugely spammed CC’s to counter limited stability stacks just isn’t very common at all in WvW…I’m sure channeling on the front line will work out as great as overloading Fire to stack Might to your allies then be locked out of the Fire for the rest of the fight when you try to use 3/4ths of the rest of your character.

I for one am just glad they FINALLY added some AOE support to the Elementalist. I mean we’ve been asking for more AOE Support forever as a Elementalist. Sure glad Tempest is going to address that gap in character design.

I agree, the tempest is exactly what the elementalist needed. With the tempest, the ele will be one of the best team players in the game. It is such a great team player that the effectiveness of its class mechanics depends entirely on your team mates providing stability.

Also, point of clarity, since I think I’m misreading. If, say, you channel the fire storm and it gets interrupted. Are you locked out of fire attunement for 20 seconds? Or is that CD only if you swap to a different element?

In addition, do we know if switching attunements interrupts the channel (triggering the CD)?

I believe only if you swap out of the attunement.

Your last question, we do not know anything specific.

Calling it now though, tempest will be interrupt food until changes are made months after launch. Right now armor of earth and mist form are the only skills giving you a safe channel and is rather save those for safe stomp/res.

D/d will live on though. I will have fun wrecking pve with this spec. Tempest will be the penultimate speed clear boss

I suspect all elite specs will get the nerfs they deserve later.

D/D will still be useful, war horn was never really in competition with /d. Tempest trait line will be useful in PvP to give elementalist higher amounts of protection duration. I foresee Water, arcane and tempest.

In PvE if they actually push through with smarter AI, which i highly doubt it, it might not be as viable.

Well, if the guild halls will be anything like the one’s in the original Guild Wars, then they should have the option of having a GvG-like battle. aka Scrimmage. Why they didn’t put the guild halls in when they started the game.. i have no idea O.o seeing as the guild halls were the base settings of the ‘guild wars’

no. You have guild fights, but it wont be guild wars 1 gvg, more like gw 2 gvg.

not rally… it was 4v4 team death match, no respawn, random allies, fights usu ~2-3 mins, queues ~30secs (4 years ago when i still played regularly)

winning team stayed together and re entered queue. after 10 consecutive wins, the team broke apart, but u got bonus rewards (or maybe just moved to team queue which was basically the same, cause u would get steam rolld by any actual team)

since fights were so short (and queues) even if ur team and the match was miserable, it was over fast and u could just go again

i could do that for hours on end w/o getting bored, cuz thur was enough good matches to play thru the bads.

w/ gw2, after 4 terrible fights, i’ve just spent ~ an hour of my life feeling frustrated and not having had fun. the win streaks every other night or 2 just doesn’t make the loss streaks any more bearable

so i jus hotjoin now

My point is that it doesn’t do anything different from conquest except require everybody to be bunker and have one less player. It doesn’t make it worthwhile to waste resources for arena net.

Hardy Conduit – Grants protection when the tempest begins to overload their attunement. This trait can also be bolstered by a specific major trait icalled Earthen Proxy. The effects of protection on you will be increased from 33% to 40% damage reduction.

Really? Because exhaustion seems to only apply to the ele like always. Other classes get better mechanics.

Its the risk and reward play style I like.

Except this is 90% risk.,getting locked out of your skills for 20 secs does not sound very rewarding. Especially given how terrible a lot of weapon skills are, but hey what do i know. Some people enjoy pain others do not.

I do love the fact that karl avoided talking about scepter.

Singularity doesn’t sound all that impressive especially the 15 to 20 cd.

It seems for the most part cantrips are still the best utilities ele got.

Let me help you, don’t buy it. This decision I made for you is based entirely on your comments. you can keep playing wvW if you want, but don’t try and pretend you know more than the guys who design products based ENTIRELY on metrics.

I won’t have an opinion about warhorn until we actually see the skills. One thing that is kind of a bummer is that an offhand means you’ll have to pair it with dagger or scepter though.

That’s the main problem that some of those post above seem unable to grasp. The warhorn would be fine IF we actually had good mainhand weapon, the fact is we really do not. Most of the mainhand weapons skills are trash, with scepter being super trash.

You talk about maturity and yet cannot grasped the simple concept of opinions. Part of growing up is understanding that people will have a different opinion than yours. It isn’t the end of the world, if you like the war horn that’s cool, we don’t and we get to complain about. That’s why forums exist.

You’re wrong. Im saying that it’s immature to not buy something just because of one teaser image, when we know literally nothing about how the spec will work as a whole. I’m excited for the expansion and grateful for all the hard work the devs have put into it.

Actually, a person can use whatever reason they can dream off to decide NOT to spend their money. The job of the company is to convince the consumer to buy their product.

It is not the customer’s job to care about the feelings of developer. They are not making guild wars 2 as a favor to me, they are making a PRODUCT to sell to ME. Now if the expansion was free, then maybe. The point being, they are not doing it for anybody’s benefit, they are doing it because they want my hard earned money or the money I am earning posting on this forum instead of doing work.

How the spec works in irrelevant, the issue here has been that the ele does not need an off hand, it needed a good main hand. Scepter doesn’t know WTF it is trying to be, dagger has its own problems.

Singularity a mechanic that works by forcing player to stick to once attunement isn’t going to make things better.

Eventually, the pain will be over, but for now I am going to QQ all the way to I get over it.

Arena net isn’t making the product for my benefit, they want my cash. We don’t have to be grateful, especially when they are kittening up. Well mainly the balance team is kittening up.

Maybe you need to take a break from the game and play something else if possible. I’ve realized in the past that disagreeing about balance (particularly with necro in previous patches) was really stressful and unfun, so I took a break from the game to play other stuff on the 3DS. I may disagree with your position on warhorn since I think MH dagger is great and scepter is weird but can work (and that the only reason the offhands dagger is strong is because of burning), but you’re entitled to your opinion, and I sincerely hope that you are able to move past this, even if it means leaving gw2 to do so.

There are two options here one for me and you.

option one.
I could stay and keep reminding Arena net at my displeasure for their terrible decisions. If a bunch of people could convince Arena net to change their business model from LS focused to expansion based. I am sure eventually arena net will at the very minimum realize that they really need to rework scepter to make it viable.

Also the reason why I play this game now is because I like the necromancer, it might be at the bottom now but at least the reaper looks a like a lot of fun.

Option 2:

You get over the fact that not everybody will agree with you and or blindly kiss Arena net’s bum. Don’t worry about me, worry about yourself. So what if someone doesn’t agree with your point of view? That is life.

Remember Arena net created this forum solely to attract disgruntle opinions. At the end of the day, we are both going to do whatever makes us happy.

Skill of heavy [reroll type]: Randomly selects a heavyarmor class.
Skill of medium [reroll type]: Randomly selects a medium armor class.
Skill of light [reroll type]: Randomly selects a light armor class. There is an 20% of failure.
New mechanic (singularity): gain a skill the longer you stay in an attunement. This punishes you for reacting to situations and ignores the fact that a lot of weapon skills suck.

The niche that results in a significant percentage of ele either not buying the xpac or moving to something better.

Solo queue needs to come back. It’s time to realize that the idea of this hybrid queue was good on paper but does not work in practice.

There is no shame in admitting that and going back – at least on this one subject – to the previously working model.

I don’t think arena net thinks it’s a good idea, just that the pop is too small and players whine about queue times more than vs pre made.

It is either long queue times or no solo queue and they choose “shorter” queue times.

You just simply don’t get it. It doesn’t matter if it’s good or bad, ele does not need an offhand. There’s little variety in the playstyles, because the class lacks some solid choice of weapons. Adding an offhand won’t change it, there’s nothing more you need to know. So maybe restrain from calling other people kids.

The specialisation add variety, not by the weapon, but by the change it make to a class, and that we’ll only be able to know it when they show us how tempest work.

Maybe read most of the arguments first before commenting. The problem with the war horn is that it currently competes with two good off hands, while the 2 main hands suck a lot. That’s it, singularity isn’t going to change that fact.

What if the ability/change of the tempest makes it so you can split attunements, one for mh and one for oh? though what do to do with skills…

That seems extremely and overly complicated, I do not see that happening EVER.
