Considering this is a hardware issue, unless arena net either buys new servers or changes the way skills communicate with the server with the xpac then no.

DX12 will not help skill lag because the skill lag has nothing to do with graphics performance or optimizations in Windows. It has to do with the back-end server’s capability to process data.

They put optimizations in a while back that helped the issue, but all the changes since that time have caused the problem to return with a vengeance.

I wonder how they expect their WvW population to purchase on xPac for a broken game mode if it will remain broken. /shrug

Everything you said is wrong. It is because the server cannot handle processing all the communication. The skills send a command to the server telling it that player X has used skill 1.

DX 12 only benefits FPS drops, so again, you are wrong and it is a good idea to avoid spreading false information.

Can anyone tell me why we can’t have all types of carrots to satisfy everyone? Is there a shortage of carrots?

There is shortage of devs.

There is no way it can take more than an hour or so to implement a tiered “Champion” system for every 150 matches. Or to have infinite PvP levels instead of stopping at 80.

Hey everybody we have an expert here. He knows how Arena net’s system works and all their priorities.

I know you are not very happy about the system, but hyperbole like that is doing the devs a big disservice, since they are not in control of what gets worked on.

Just testing the new system probably takes more than 1 hour. Someone has to code it, design UI elements, have those UI elements tested to ensure that it doesn’t break something, obviously translate it to different language and then test it.

All of this assumes that there is a dev currently not doing anything MORE important than making a few people on the forum happy about grind.

Tl;DR

It might be a good idea to not make estimates about a system you are not familiar with. That is part of being a professional, never making assumptions about how long something takes to implement.

@OP: I don’t think you have any idea what balance means. It doesn’t mean that everyone has the ability to go play another class. Balance is about whether the classes are equal to each other.

At least think through what you are going to write before you do it.

I don’t think Arena net cares if clases are equal to each other, hence why they don’t bother attempting to balance for 1v1. (obviously you already knew that).

While we will have to wait and see, I don’t think you’re correct. Wepon is not a cosmetic at all, especially for a class that has very low choice of weapons and lacks a melee weapon completely.

Not at all. Elementalists has twice as many weapon skills as other professions with weapon swap. This is huge. And ele daggers work pretty well melee. It’s not important what weapon you carry or how animation looks. The effect of the skill is important.

Having 20 weapon skills available at a time instead of common 10 doesn’t mean you have a wide variety of weapons to choose, because you do not, there’s a huge difference between those two things.

It actually matters what weapon you carry, since the skills are tied to the weapon. Mainhand and offhand weapons are completely different, that should be quite obvious.

Dagger is not a melee weapon, it’s a PBAoE. Ele could get warhorn in the future specializations, but at the moment it needs another mainhand or twohanded weapon the most, so there’s wider diversity in the playstyle.

I think ele is in a very good spot today. Top notch in every game mode, this is 66% better than most classes and 100% better than necromancer.

I think you should write your concerns in profession specific forums so anet devs can read your feedback and make changes. I think your opinion is important but your posts can get lost between other. Try elementalist subforum.

You are right that the ele is top notch in every game mode, which is means ultimately nothing in the grand scheme of things. Ele is a class whose strength is PvP is almost entirely dependent on one single amulet, without that amulet they are almost replaceable. I mean any class in which players ask for “rotations” in PvP says a lot about that class in a game like this. Ele the class in which all builds revolve around water and arcane and celestial amulet. That sure is a fun class.

In the other game mode, its best weapon depends on the player staying in the same attunement for 90% of the fight.

A company like Blizzard generates billions of dollars from its MMO, while guild wars 2 makes only 100 million.

I doubt Arena net cares about breaking the map or trivilizing the previous. I think they just don’t want non-HOT players to expect they will be getting gliders. By making it HOT only they is a more justifiable reason why the old content doesn’t have gliders.

So what’s your full argument in why you think, without a doubt, we’re getting sword?

It’s funny you come up with this argument when you’ve been acting like it’s for sure ele is getting a warhorn. Also, pretty sure he didn’t mean that at all, he was just stating there might be not enough evidence to claim a warhorn as a sure thing.

Honest mistake, most people in denial of Warhorn are headstrong because they were so sure of sword. Would you like to answer instead?

A more reasonable argument could be made that there is no real evidence of the warhorn being the elementalist weapon. I mean at one point people were declaring the sword to be the next weapon, it might be a good idea not to be so certain.

Specialization improved the game majorly. Removing stats from traits is probably the biggest improvement for the game so far. It actually increase diversity more so than than it hurt it.

The original system had too many pointless build. This system has less but more decent builds so far anyways.

A lot of people say diversity was killed and that is technically true IF you believe

I came back after being away for awhile. Many of my favorite builds cannot easily be restored, for all the reasons folks are listing:

  1. I can no longer pick 2 master traits from the same line, so my ranger can no longer take both Two Handed Training and Natural Healing.
  2. I can no longer dip into a 4th trait line, so my mesmer can no longer take both Empowered Illusions and Illusionary Defense.

How about an Advanced Build button that lets us break these restrictions, and get back our old build? What does that bust?

And why is ArenaNet so anti-complexity? The complex build system was something that attracted me to the game…

If you thought guild wars 2 system is complex, then you haven’t played a lot of games. your post reads like a person who hates change.

The old system was extremely silly. Why have stats that are attached to traits? It made no sense. The old system provide no real choices, this system forces the player to think and make the appropriate choices.

The complexity in this new system comes for the fact that for most class, this new system forces them to actually think about their choices, the old system, you never had to think since you could have it all.

I just have to ask, how do we know that sword ele is not going to be ranged like GS mesmer and hammer rev?

Data mining a few weeks back showed it will likely be a melee class. Also, you need to consider that so far it seems to be a mainhand only weapon – unlikely that eles will dual wield Sword.

Ranged sword with melee dagger would be a weird combination, so you would be left with only one option – sword and focus, which kinda goes against their goal of having build diversity if it only meshes with one of the off-hands.

Main-hand torch.

How do you mix up a 4 element class? Hybrid elements.

How do you do something new and unusual after ranged greatsword/hammer? Melee torch.

What gives you both? Main-hand torch.

To be fair, Minions are a utility for Necros.

Pets really should be a utility for Rangers. It was frankly a bad idea to make the pet their “class mechanic”.

Having the entire class revolve around pets only works if use of pets is the entire identity of the class. That is not the case with rangers – it’s a broad archetype that houses many different potential identities. That’s why there’s always conflict about it.

Rangers is the designated pet class, so arena net might not get rid of the part short of a specialization.

you take the order that was normal pre patch (for ele Fire, Air, Earth, Water, Arcana) and each line you use gets a 1, the other two lines a zero

why 1? because you can only choose full lines now, so using 60066 is just unecessary you could also use 80088 but well 1 fits the best :p

so why use old system of describing traits in a new system? when it could be like 2/0/4/2/6, it had a reason for numbers, but now? why don’t you just say fire/water/arcane? or even f/w/ar if you want it as short as possible?

Using 1,1,1,0,0 Is more universal and actually more reasonable than using F/W/A since it isn’t applicably to other classes. Having an unnecessarily complicated system just for its own sake is silly.

You dudes aint creative eh. I know you all really just want the auras to trigger elemental shielding and if you actually try you can find ways to trigger it. Frost aura on crtical hit in the water line? Also we have an automatic fire aura in the fire line when we swap to fire attunement(sunspot minor trait). Not to mention weapon skills that can trigger auras and lastly theres also a runeset that grants auras. Maybe just maybe anet thought the fire aura on signet use was too easy? Particularly since we now get two extra trait points in every line.

That is a very nice story, which is technically true. However, the reason why people like aura on signet was because it made signets actually useful. Who knew.

Don’t worry about how people spend their money, worry about how you spend YOUR money. How do you know most of the people buying it are not doing it out because they are a fan of the game? Or to some people $50 dollar is chump change?

The point being, if you think Arena net hasn’t proven the value of the expansion, that is great and you are free to believe that if you so choose. But try not to be a condenscending kitten because you disagree with their assessment of the value.

personally, $50 is a the amount of money will probably blow on a kittenty friday night, so why not just give it to a company that has given me over 3000 hours of gameplay for only 60 bucks?

Seems like people are trying to convince themselves warhorn wouldn’t be too bad (it would). I guess it’s more like hoping it won’t be another support weapon that won’t change the playstyle of ele at all (read: only d/d eles, eventually d/w will be viable).

And btw I would much rather use Bolt than Howler on my ele.

As karl is our main designer whatever spec we get will still be terrible. This why I plan on jumping onto another train.

nop, HP pool doesnt mean anything.

Zerker war had Vit, PTV had Vit, Cele had Vit, all had Vit.

It’s not about the HP pool, it’s about the utilities

HP pool does matter when you only have 11k and wear light armor and have very few defensive capabilities and terrible mobility compare to a warrior. With access to some of the best ulitilizes in the game.

OP why bother, it has been apparent that Karl or Jon, has no idea what to do with the elementalist. I doubt they bother testing the elementalist when they were implementing these changes. To those guys, the only weapon that exist is d/d and those the balance the elementalist around that weapon set, while ignoring the other weapons.

They say they wanted build diversity, but after when it is all said and done, nothing is changing for the elementalist. Before this new patch, everybody went into water and arcane, after this new patch most people will go into water and arcane.

berserk ele will run around with 11k hp, this is a bad joke and yet again this forces ele to drop damage and go for the less offensive marauder amulet just because the design fail of the low base hp… ele needs 13k base instead of the old number.

How is this unique to Ele’s? Thief and Guard are in the very same boat. Bezerker gets replaced with Marauder and each of them should be fine. I don’t get the problem here, if you wanna play full glass, you’re full glass now with crit damage sitting at about 240%.

The thieve and guardian have a lot of built in defensive abilities that makes their HP a little better than the elementalist. So it is not as bad as it is for the elementalist.

Most of the elementalist defensive abilities are tried to skills with long CD at the very minimum 30+ second.

What’s with everyone complaining about loosing stats from traits, you’ll get them back with higher baseline stats and increased gear stats.

Currently, if you play zerker gear + traits with defensive stats, you are technically not pure zerker so there is no point to compare this to full zerker post patch. You can switch few gear pieces and have very similar stats to as now (wvw/pve). In pvp it will depend on the amulet choices (didn’t watch streams so don’t know about those).

Here is a nice suggestion, before commenting on something, maybe know what you are talking about or even what the topic is about.

This topic is about PvP, if you had actually read the OP it was apparent he was talking about PvP, not PvE. So what you said is meaningless.

One of the reasons that some people like this Jetpack is that it sets them apart from the rest of us with our black wings or ancestral outfits. Making it available to everyone via Laurels (even lots and lots of laurels) diminishes that ‘feature’. I wish the game had more skins that were truly rare like this.

At the same time, there’s also something counter intuitive to ANet’s other design philosophies: why remove the ability to resupply the market entirely? And it turns out, in other cases, ANet has briefly offered older skins from new sources. In fact, I’m expecting that this will happen with Jetpacks, monocles, and the like.

Except it isn’t counter intuitive to any of the Arena net’s philosophies. Their design philosophies only deal with mechanics that gives a player significant advantages over other players. The Molten Jetpack is just a fancy skin, that is hard to get. It represents nothing more than that.

And condition scaling changed.’celestial got a minor nerf, as did some of the core aspects of classes that took strong advantage of Celestial. No need for the doomsday stuff. Marauder and zerker will be just fine.

Irrelevant opinions. That is a balance discussion. I am not interested in balance discussions. I am just stating a FACT. That they tried to nerf celestial specs but now those specs will have a larger percentage stat advanatge than before the patch.

If you aren’t interested in balance, then your opinion on what happened to it doesn’t matter.

The vigor change is one of the top 5 changes coming with the class balance. It will reduce the evade spam some builds can get. It will also make all those extra endurance traits/skills/food have a use in the game.

That would be okay if they actually buffed the passive defences of classes that depend on vigor, you know. But if they’re going to do this major nerf and it’ll be the only thing nerfed, what good is it going to do?

Classes that depend on vigor? Well maybe it is time to run a more defensive build. A nerf to builds that could run 100% offensive zerker and have insave survivability via evade spam.

Does fresh air have insane survability? Is it meta? Does it depend on vigor? No. No. Yes.

So, run the Cinder ele build 66600 and take advantage of blind spam as your defense instead, while also getting to take Fresh air now. If people could make it work before, I don’t see how they couldn’t afterward…

People have been using condi builds for ages. It’s nothing new.

Yeah, I’ve been one of them, earth spec’d Elementalist main since launch, regardless of that fact they are still some of the worst builds in the entire game.

Um. Dire signet ele running 6/0/6/0/2 is notorious in wvw roaming for being just as ridiculous as condithief/mes. earth has been good for a long time.

No one cares about WvW roaming. The game isn’t balanced around it to any degree, WvW is meant to be a simulation of war, it isn’t meant to be balanced or fair, its meant to reward every advantage one takes, especially numbers. Meaning the efforts of one person make absolutely no difference anyway, and no matter how much WvW roamers claim otherwise, except for reporting enemy movements, roaming has no effect on the game modes win condition and therefor isn’t a problem no matter the build.

If this is your view on roaming/wvw, then it makes sense you find condi ele bad.

I assume this topic was about spvp not wvw which makes his comments not wrong.

I was hoping staff would become usable in PvP well mainly stronghold and It isn’t, so the status quo did not change for me. Not I am not playing a kittening bunker.

I mean we started out with being forced into arcane and ended up back where we started, a pessimist would say the displacement was 0, an optimist would day the distance was 360. Before 00266 after 00666 PROGRESS!!! fools.

Yea, karls saved us (partially) from himself! Yes, every pvp ele is still taking arcana 100% of the time. Water is now being taken 90% of the time (fresh air builds might deviate into earth or fire if blinding ashes ever becomes per-target). However, I don’t think we have 0 displacement. We might be going from 00266 d/d to 0/6/0/6/6. While going into earth is certainly much more tanky, the quality of the traits just can’t compete with how incredibly strong air is. With ele attunement + ele contingency, you have more than enough to get 100% prot uptime. The amount of damage + mobility you get from going into air more than makes up from the -10% damage in melee (which is the biggest gain). From a higher level, fresh air is one of the five strongest traits available to the class, and the synergy with one with air (now at 3s) is very powerful for a melee d/x spec. You might even be able to play dagger/focus with such a build.

Sure, it is the same role (bruiser) as always, but at least there are a few options.

What you said is technically true for only d/x. I was speaking in general terms. As a person who hates the bruiser play style of d/x, this doesn’t really change anything.

Well PvE builds changed from 66200 to 66006 (FRA=Fire aiR Arcane, also, I am french so I really like this spec name). That’s something!

Well PvE, is PvE. I mean for most of PvE except fractures you can probably sneeze and still a favorable outcome.

Just a bit curious to know what all the staff eles out there think of the trait changes?

How will they affect your build? What’re you planning to run in the future?

I plan on playing a different class. There is no way in hell I will ever run d/d, If I wanted to play like a mindless attunement changing bot (I talking about fixed rotations). A botting program would be more efficient.
