It is not a disaster just because you are too cheap to afford an expansion. The fact of the matter is, Arena net seems genereous when you compared to other companies.
Also, if you are not going to buy the expansion why bother run dungeons? Those things are never going to be improved and it makes everything pointless.
Arenanet, this is a huge and catastrophic mistake.
You have to have some rewarding group PvE that’s not just raids. Raids, the way they’re tuned, most casual players won’t be finishing them anytime soon.
Nobody is going to do fractals anymore if there’s no monetary rewards to do them.
I hope you realize everything got nerf in some way. Before dungeons provided far too much money and now they don’t. THis expansion affected everybody except TP players.
In the long run, this was a good change. Short run players like you and OP will throw a hissy fit and then eventually either quit or come to accept it.
*buy to play, not pay to win.
gw2 is advertised as F2P and a level playing field in pvp, i guess that is no longer true.
Gated content that can only be acquired with money and gives you even slight advantage is pay to win.
You call it pay2win, everyone else who played an MMO would call it standard operating procedure.
I’ll borrow this thread for a second. This is the first time I’m playing GW2 during Halloween, is there something I should absolutely do/see? I don’t want to miss anything important/cool.
Its a game, there is nothing you have to absolutely see. Here is a good suggestion, since we dont know what you like, why not spend 5 minuets doing halloween events to see if you care or not.
15 hours remaining and always waiting official response …
you wont get an official response because they are probably extremely busy.
PvP potions will not be changed BECAUSE it has no effect on how quickly you gain hero points. That’s it. The change is tried to progression and not rewards.
The reason why they haven’t commented on league is because contrary to popular believe, they don’t start with HOT. They start at some point in the next few weeks once “balance” has settle down.
From Arena net’s POV there is no point talking about post HOT content.

I have another theory.
SoloQ was removed around the time the 1st pvp test ladder took place. When you solo queued for ranked back then, there were more pvp veterans around that ended up in your team.
The pvp veteran population may have taken a huge dive. One example is the activity on the pvp forums. Also, around the first test ladder season na prime, my contact list had 20+ logged on and 80% were in hotm. Today, it’s only between 3-5 online na prime.
Take that into consideration plus MMR being wonky.
I highly doubt arena net made such a profound change because a couple of you buddies decided to quit. considering that the majority of players are not not pvp “veterans” (whatever that means), what you are saying is nothing.
A pvp veteran is something you are not. Considering you don’t recognize their decline and can’t differentiate them with the influx of newer players.
Believe it or not, I don’t actually care whether I fall under some arbitrary category.
In any case, there is a fine line between not recognizing their “decline” AND NOT giving a flying kittening about their decline. People quit games all the time and life goes on.
Their decline doesn’t impact me in any meaningful way. I mean if it did, I would be playing so other game.
The point being

Considering people were asking for Cantha with a week of Vanilla launch. I am going to say 5 days.
1. Day to get glide.
2. Day to fully unlock specialization for 1 class.
3. to burn through story
4. complain about raids not being instantly available.
5. Come to forums to complain.
Immediately go to the forums and make an angry post about it?
Yep, reaper will be nerfed to oblivion. Or you could simply take a chill pill and relax.
Like Dead said, if you were not happy with the Reaper in BWE3 chances are you will not like it at launch. They are not going to suddenly make enough changes to meet the launch deadline.
Given the amount of issues you have with the class, I suggest you pick a back up class. Chances are you will not be happy no matter what the end result is.

Frankly, yes WvWers got the better deal here.
They need to just come out with the number already, we already are well aware anything over 100 will be met with HUGE threads in the forums demanding change, quickly followed by ANY “unlocking” requirements to be thrown in the trash bin by the WvW crowd. Of which I support both things being dealt with quickly and immediately and will support both groups.Look, I am completely for having the elite specs gated behind an unlocking feature in the story…with a caveat: the exact second your ACCOUNT unlocks that step all characters can now freely access elite specs. Anything else is asinine and only drives players away from the game as the entire point of getting the expansion is to have these new options in our builds. Gating it behind a relatively early on story step isn’t a huge deal if it unlocks account wide. Even the most hardcore of the WvW crowd can go do 2-3 story steps without much grumbling to unlock elites across the entire account.
Too early to be claiming that. Mostly because you don’t know the rate at which you gain hero points.
Does spending the very first point on the line give me the ability to wield the new weapon?
If you only care getting the weapon unlock traits first. Which is what you should be doing anyways.

Unlocking your elite spec is a training line in your training panel that costs hero points. You do need to have trained all the existing training lines before you’re allowed to put hero points into your elite spec.
If you’ve got all the hero points in the existing game and have enough to train about half the elite specialization training line on launch day. The rest you’ll need to earn in the jungle or via the new system Tyler outlined yesterday from WvW. The number of points to fully train your elite spec is higher than other training lines – but hero challenges in the jungle are worth 10 points each, so it’s not actually as big as it appears.
Unless I am mistaken just to unlock half of the training line, we need 212 hero points?
I think at this stage, it might be better just to tell us exactly how many points we need.
OP it is clear you haven’t played the Reaper or have no idea what you are talking about. Fortunately, Robert H Geezus isn’t going to blindly react to uninformed criticism.

They could but why would they? There are decent alternatives to strength runes.
For aoe classes the current system gives you precise control over it. So no , the action cam has adv and disadvantages. Just like the current standard.
There is a toggleable keyboard which can allow you to place your Ground Targetable skills wherever you like in action combat mode.
Not at the same precision and speed of the standard system.

If you had actually taken the time to watch the video about legendaries if YOU Cared your question would be answered. I am sure someone nicer than me will tell you because I am not going to.
Dyeable weapons are not going to return…ever. There is an official reason for this and there is the unofficial but more accurate answer.
The unofficial answer is related to cash shop. THE END.

Take this advice with a grant of salt: use them now since the drop rates will be reduced in HoT to “balance” the economy
Link to official statement? Thought they were only reducing the drops gold you get from doing actual dungeons since farming dungeons is too rewarding atm.
They also mentioned reducing the drop rate of things like Thick Leather Section to increase scarcity. Look at the jump in price of that on the trading post.
And? How does this affect reward tracks? All it means is less drop rate of an item that doesn’t sell for much anyway.
you get rewards from the chest you open?
celestial gear generally sucks unless it is for PvP and only because of the signet build. Better to stick with one thing that focus on multiple.
Skip to boss then kill and collect over and over is not healthy for the game.
Good to know that map switching in silver wastes (looking for vine wraith) will be removed…. or LFG for killing in Orr Boss events will be removed as well… Since that’s what Arena Net doesn’t want.
Except that SW only transfer wealth and acts as a supply for the overall market. SW is getting nerfed as a result of the reduction in salvaging output. SW makes money from selling items on the TP and it gets taxed.
Dungeon creates wealth and it doesn’t get taxed.
Except everyone who says this is missing cases.
What do you think happens when I acrue 250 Leather (well as of a month ago, prices changed currently), or minor sigils, and sell them to a vendor because the TP is at its lowest value? I actually am creating money out of nothing on any interaction where I sell to a vendor and got goods directly from drops.
you are right you are actually creating money out of thin air when you vendor stuff. However, you are not creating as much money compared to running multiple dungeons.
You have to be selling a lot of crap to be generating as much money as doing dungeons. So nobody is missing the point. We all get it. Dungeon no matter what you said still generates more money out of thin air than any other content.

It depends on what you want. If you care about salvaging the output do what sunshine says. If you don’t then it doesn’t matter.

Gating is a necessary evil for MMO. For single player games not so much. Once you buy a single player game, you could skip to the end and developer isn’t going to care.
The problem with MMO is that players think of it as long term. They want a game that can go on for as long as possible. THis is nice unfortunately, creating that type of content is very expensive.
Believe or not, when guild wars 2 was release it had very few gates. The only major gate were reaching level 80 and getting legendary weapons and both of those took a month at release.
I remember being in Orr within a week of release. I watch people ran Arah and do Orr events for hours and after hours. Within a few days after release got their exotic gear then proceeded to kitten and moan how guild wars 2 has no endgame content.
I remember within a week, players were already asking for Cantha and elona. The point being gates are necessary because mmo players have proven to be unable to handle not having gates. If a developer cares about the long term population health of their game, they have to drag out the progress as long as possible while not making it seem painful.
tl;dr
Gate exist because there is no reward to having no gates other than an unhealthy population. The cost of making a game with constant content is too expensive. A lot of MMO players substitute an life for an MMO.
It is not a pvp focused game, it has PvP though. Well at least PvP is very easily avoidable, just don’t wear a faction outfit. With that said, it might be a good idea to actually play the game for an extended period before praising it. My memory might be bad, but when I played it, gear actually mattered. I mean your weapon and runes. The grind of which puts guild wars 2 to shame (but I was playing the chinese version, so i doubt the rng would be as bad).
Also if you want an easier time in open PvP play blademaster. But seriously, first play the game for an extended period of time before being praising the kitten game. also good luck leveling in that game, it is a kitten.
Am I the only one who finds this staff super awful ? xD
You are hardly the only one who hates something that other people like.
If you spent a few secs reading the thread you will find a couple of people who share your very ununique opinion.
I love LOVE that staff. It’s beautiful and has a wonderful name: Nevermore. Excited about that.
I see it more as a ranger (druid) weapon, with a branch and a crow, this screams “nature magic” to me…
Agree. And I will try to get it for my new Druid.
A dead enchanted branch with spectral lights floating around it and a prominent symbol of death hanging around it? Sure… Nature magic.. Not ritualist or necromancery at all. RIIIIIIIGGGHHHT……
I’m totally getting this for my necro.
It’s a branch, with wisps, actually. And yes, it has a crow on it but all the accompanying animations are bright and vibrant. The wisps blue, the bird animation bright blue. It’s not necromancy in anyway, unless you want to shoe-horn in the thought that it is. If the orbs were dark, or green and the branch black, I’d see it. As it stands, definitely for Druid.
snip
You don’t need to go that far.
The fact is that Raven is death. One of grenth’s theme is ICE.
Death tree branch + bird of death + with Ice being a symbol of death in Guild wars 2 lore.
The truth is you are probably not going to convince him, since his opinion is set in stone.
Did u all see the New Legendary Staff skin, with Crows flying above it as particle effects and the Crow sitting on its branch when stoved ? This SCREAMS Necro all over dosent it ?
Why Anet do u do this to a non-PvE player… this is a must haave Why ?
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/hot-new-legendary-weapons/
This blue tiny shiny throwing glowing thing doesn’t scream necro…
I was happy see the crows… but then i saw the blue wing thing… but no, i’m not interested in
Considering Ice is part of necro theme, I am going to go ahead and say you are wrong. The glowing blue represents ice and the crow represents death. So it works exceedingly well as a necro theme weapon. If you don’t like the weapon that is perfectly OK, but to say that it is not part of the necro theme indicates a fundamental misunderstanding of the class lore.
Tl;dr
Crows + Glowing blue = death and Ice.
Anyone else bothered by the fact they still haven’t added solo queues, yet they keep doing this sort of stuff?
Maybe the numbers indicate that premade are not as big of a problem, as the small sample size on the forums seem to indicate?
Maybe you are right, but there is no reason to assume so YET. Not to say I wouldn’t mind a soloQ either but I doubt they will do it.
Incentives are getting serious. That’s a VERY generous prize pool considering how small the population is ATM. I do hope it attracts more people into pvp.
I’d rather them use that 400k to get someone to fix all the bugs and exploits, I just love invisible AoE fields, weapon stowing abuse and in Spirit Watch the blue side has the advantage.
I think this has been the 2nd time they had to fix Runes of Vampirism?
ArenaNet get your priorities straight. Guild Wars 2 can be a great Esport, but right now is a joke of an Esport.
Spit your venom elsewhere. This is a great thing for Guild Wars 2.
No, it’s really not. Guild Wars 2 is simply not ready for Esports, trying to make it so is a complete waste of resources.
League of Legends was the most played game of all time, THEN it became an Esport. A sport is something the community supports, right now Guild Wars 2 PvP does not have the community or support it needs.
If ArenaNet really wants to make Guild Wars 2 an Esport, start fixing all the bugs and minor exploits.
Arena net are big kids if they want to waste their money as you claim, it is their money. Also at this stage complaining about it isn’t going to change a thing. Just to add, 400,000 isn’t that much money to hire someone long term.
(edited by PlatinumMember.5274)
Does match making deliberately try to keep you at a 50% win ratio, because every time I approach 50% I start losing multiple games in a row, and start getting teams of 1-3 people that are under lvl 80.
Yes, it tries to keep you at 50%. However level has nothing to do with PvP. A lot PvPers have multiple classes are don’t bother to level up their classes. so having under 80s means nothing.
More likely, you are simply unlucky. 50% win rate should be over the long run, not short run.
For PvE and DPS the zerk build will do more damage over time.
However, wouldn’t build 1 (wurm) benefit from longer reaper shroud?
The builds posted by OP dont use elite specs and Dagger auto > LB spam. Though i doubt these builds are used for pve.
Well that is what I get for assuming everybody and everything is reaper.
For PvE and DPS the zerk build will do more damage over time.
However, wouldn’t build 1 (wurm) benefit from longer reaper shroud?
YOu really did not have to explain why AFK report is a must. It seems more like Arena net was too busy and it hedging all their PVP resources on leagues. This also means it might probably be in leagues and if it isn’t, this post is far too late for HOT.
A thread like this is premature. We don’t know everything related to bosses yet.
Wrong!!! some of us here and see into the future or something. With that said, by complaining now we can shape the way future raids are made. I do agree that a couple of people here are overreacting, but that is not shocking, given their history. The problem is their certainty like they have seen the full raid.
But in a way, by whining about it now might be better. Since the other raids are still being worked on, developers can really consider the role necromancers will play. From the video I saw about the first wing, raids don’t see that much better than dungeons except they are new.
I’m thinking rune of the elementalist. +100 power/condi dmg +20% burn duration (dhumfire) +20% chill duration (deathly chill etc)
I never ran deadly chill, is it any good?
reaper shines when opponents have >50% hp.
now if that 4v1 is common (or believable) every thread on this forum will about nerfing it.
You mean at < 50, right?
It’s about time!
It takes me on average 8 to 9 hours to finish a reward track. In those nine hours, I could have farmed atleast 15 or more gold. :P
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Zaishen_KeyIn 8-9 hours you can probably farm 100 gold
That’s it? kitten , So I am better off doing gem to dollar. (not that I am complaining).
F2p only exist as an appetizer it seems you friends did not like the appetizer.
Life goes on. Arena net is a corporation not a charity. I paid 50 bucks for this expansion and I expect others to pay a similar amount.
If Reapers need help at high end PvP, then we should definitely get help. Like it or not, Anet is pushing the PvP esports scene. So they do care about what people say about these tournaments. So if Reapers truly need to get better for high end PvP, then I support boosts to Reapers so they become viable.
I never liked calling signet necros meta in the first place just because 1 player and 1 top team used it. Would like to see Reaper get a chance to really earn a spot because they are viable, not just a niche or liability like most people called signet necros.
I am not saying they don’t need help, but you are offering no suggestions. Opinions are only relevant or useful when you back them up with something. Saying high end PvP doesn’t really mean much.
People’s perception change all the time, so if you want to say something. Do it but say something of substance. I mean people at some point thought hammer warrior would never be viable and yet…
Early high level Pvp tests, eg Nos vs Phantaram streams, suggest that the Reaper is poor at high level pvp and also a downgrade versus the necromancer.
What you are saying might be true except….
1. Reaper is not and has never been designed for 1v1. So that is not really going to make Robert H Geezus change a thing.
2. Phantaram has more experience playing a d/d (I think) than NOS has playing a reaper. Once again, not a very fair and balance analysis. Or it is as fair and balance as fox news and MSNBC is, if you live in the states.
But more important, the Reaper in theory is designed to enjoy fighting multiple opponents, a 1v1 fight from those two means nothing.
BTW I am not suggesting that the reaper doesn’t have issues, because it does. However, using a 1v1 match is not a good way to drive your point home.
WE both know that they could have done it, but instead want to reduce the amount of “free” money they give out.
I am for it less tomes, but realistically I dont see that changing.
The wings are a bit ridiculous most of the time.
Why can’t we have simple capes/cloaks?!
Almost like Arena net hates money right?
OR
A more logical reason is that implementing capes is extremely difficult to implement.
High-end PvE should be a difficult, real-time puzzle that changes depending upon actions taken by individuals and teams.
It should be a mixture of (1) tPvP where players need to know what every profession and specialization needs for support with (2) highly-intelligent proactive and reactive AIs aggressively countering a team’s strategy while also having specific strengths and weaknesses players are expected to memorize and build for.
Do the raid bosses dodge red circles or attempt to interrupt big attacks or heals? Were they immune to lightning while the break bar drops faster to blind than any other condition? Did any boss corrupt one type of boon like fury and strip other types?
I’ll say if that was how high end PVE was defined I’d not be doing high end PVE
. What you describe is taking PVP and making PVE to replicate it. They’ve very different entities.
The main difference is that I’m not going against a player. It’s not skill vs skill, it’s skill vs mechanics set up to activate either statically or randomly in a way to challenge the player. When randomness doesn’t give you counter play so that you can overcome it with skill, well it’s just silly. Randomly evading bosses are dumb. Ones that intelligently evade can be manipulated and it’d be another form of CC. I could go on, but I think that what you describe is great for PVP because it’s skill vs skill, if you get interrupted/dodged its’ because taht player was good enough to answer your tell, in PVE it’d just be either random or manipulatable and naw, that’s not good design.
AI that behaves more like player is good design. You issue seems more like you want content that can be conquered easily after countless repetition.
I guess that makes sense. PvEers want “difficult” content in a sense that they want content that will challenging for a couple of days.
AI behaving more like players would be really boring… Fighting off point, spamming 1 skill over and over, going off to solo something for no reason, rage quitting mid fight…
No thanks, I’d rather my interesting and engaging mechanics with tight timers and good teamwork required.
I wasn’t talking about AI designed to the level of the average guild wars 2 dungeon player. I hope you realize AI or mechanics can be designed to be more advanced than that.
(edited by PlatinumMember.5274)
The events themselves tend to be mostly quite fun,
I honestly haven’t seen any ‘fun’ events so far. The most common ones are the ones where you have to go back and forth collecting parts, and ‘defend this spot’ events. The boss battle that I saw (with the flying wyvern) was cool, but overall I haven’t really seen anything interesting happen, especially at night.
The entire noble ledges storyline was quite fun. It was hysterical if you bothered listening to what the NPCs were saying. There are immersion players and there are mechanics players.
As an immersion player, the events are fantastic. If you’re just looking at pure mechanics, questing on almost any game is going to fall short because there are only a handful of types of quests and all that ends up mattering are how they’re dressed up.
I understand, but basically ‘defend this spot’ has become the new ‘kill ten rats’. Mechanically the events are missing something.
I don’t forget that guild wars 2 is ultimately a combat themepark. So your complaints are more of a genre issue than a mechanics issue. There is only so much you can dress up events before you realize, they are not much different. Same as movies or tv shows, that is why certain cliques exist in every genre.
It is the same as life really, rarely are they anything that is different from the usual routine other than the minor differences.

In a “balanced” game there would be no class that was unbeatable to another.
I’ve yet to see game like this.
+1
Blade and Soul?
fighting games?
Starcraft?
Ragnarok – no MVP cards? (to a lesser more grindy degree)
GW2 can strive for 1v1 balance they choose not to.
But in regards to the OP:
Mes/Chrono typically doesn’t struggle hard vs reaper. If you hate it that much run moa for the second health bar or double gravity well since stability and stun breakers is minimal.
Or you could run stun or mantra if you can’t keep up since it counters your condi.
have you actually played blade and soul, are you are just saying that because you imagined that is how it is? I have played blade and soul and you don’t know what you are talking about.
The reality is, short of Robert H Geezus giving Necros/Reaper some OP support ability, a lot of PvEers blindly following guides are going to discriminate against the necro. It happens in every game.
Skilled players know that ultimately, it is the player NOT the class that ultimately matters. But in a game where the significantly less majority simply follows the slightly more skilled minority, some classes are going to get burned. Short of an OP ability or nerf to other classes OP support, the only sure way of getting into raids is with a guild team.
fortunately, for me I am at a point in my life were raids have no appeal to me. So I am not going to dwell to much about missing out.
He definitely deserves credit for great work with the Necro. The Reaper/Shouts/GS are all well done…especially for still being in Beta.
The profession now has some new playstyles that are powerful and unique, yet still have weaknesses and counterplay.
As for Mesmers, they also got a unique playstyle that is super powerful. However, when you look at the profession as a whole, he may have gone too far. There really isn’t much reason to play anything else because no other profession has this combination of baseline/spec options which covers almost all game play:
1. Great condi specs
2. Great power specs
3. Great AOE specs
4. Great team support specs
5. Almost all insta cast spells
6. Super low cooldowns on heals which also heal high % of hp
7. Low cooldowns on virtually all utilities including elites
8. Lots of damage from range AND up close
9. Highest AI damage of any profession
10. Longest Stealth of any profession except some thieves
11. Greatest mobility options for both team and solo
12. Tons of 100% scaling defenses that work regardless how many people attacking u
13. Movement impairing skills, interrupts and overall slows
14. Great specs for duels and 1v1 style play
15. Ability to initiate almost every fight as well as disengage from almost every fightAnd here’s the 3 biggest kickers that they have over virtually every other profession….
16. Ability to do significant damage while immune/invulnerable on short cooldowns (via tons of AI)
17. Ability to do significant damage while stealthed (again via tons of AI). Actually, they can do it for longer periods than even a thief with thieves guild or ranger with pets while briefly stealthed via longbow 3If there is another profession that can do all that just by changing specs, let me know.
Except that most of these things he isn’t responsible for.
Those existed before he became lead Mesmer designer. The only thing we know he is responsible for is chronomancer.
So what exactly is your point? If you want whine go do it in another thread.
Necro might not be perfect but it has never felt as good to be necro since he took over officially. So again, wrong place and guy for the QQ.
