It’s been pretty apparent that Anet doesn’t give a kitten about actually balancing their game. The fact that the current meta can be called “the most balanced it’s ever been” is REALLY sad since it’s basically just dominated by whichever builds have the least counterplay/the worst design. We haven’t been getting any actual meaningful balance changes so they might as well spice it up a bit and open up some crazy new build options instead. Who knows, maybe when everything’s overhauled they’ll actually commit to toning down the mind blowingly obvious OP kitten, but I’m not exactly holding my breath.
As much as I dog on I Arena net for their terrible balance, it might be a good idea to tone down on the hyperbole just a little bit.

Alright, alright. I feel the need to clarify since it’s being mentioned a lot here. Powerful Auras already works with Fire’s Embrace right now, and I seriously doubt it’s the main reason the trait is being removed.
I believe the reason was due to the reshuffling of the traits. Had conjurer been the fire aura trait, the new mastery line essentially trades out Ember’s Might (+25% burn duration) for the newly buffed Blinding Ashes, which would’ve been incredibly OP alongside all of the bonus goodies the earth line is getting (and an entirely new third line as well).
I’m sad to see Fire’s Embrace snubbed out entirely as well though. Had it been competing with 2 other useful fire traits (such as the aforementioned Blinding Ashes), I thought that would be fair.
You are missing the point. it doesn’t matter the why, it matters that it twas removed.
fire is still crap, just blinding ashes is good.

People keep saying the elementalist was saved. I say nothing really changed. I mean our builds only got buffed IF you look at it from the prospective of the previous preview. Overall, it did not change. It especially did not change for other weapons except daggers and possibly s/d.
If you are hate the spammy nature of s/d and d/d, you either play heal bot or play another class.
OP you should totally give up. After as soon as you give up the game will die. Or you can be more rational and just wait a long like everybody else is doing until Arena net decides to release information.

Haha, I play fresh air and I don’t like the changes. I was hoping the spec would be shifted into a bit more skilled play from having so much instant stuff.
I think maybe staff eles would be viable somehow as a heal spec since ele will be able to give everyone a healing signet. 414 heal per sec is not bad.

It might be because of the new Powerful Aura. Currently PA only affects auras from your weapon skills. The new PA has been reworded to “When you apply an aura to yourself”. Hopefully this means auras you gain via Leaps, Blasts and runes too. I think this is why they got rid of Fire’s Embrace; the group uptime on Protection/Fury/Swiftness would be pretty OP otherwise.
At least, that’s what I think.
The old PA was share aura from weapon set, kk but we had signet aura build; now the PA gives any kind of aura but they’ve removed a way to obtain auras outside weapon skills, I may be seeing at it in a wrong way but wth did they even buff it for then?
They obviously did not buff anything. I would rather they keep the signet builds interesting than to ruin it for a group focus GM trait.

Your first problem is buying rings with laurels when it is so much more cost effective to get them through fractals. Use laurels for the amulets and guild commendations for the accessories.
They are labeled as unique items so only one can be equipped. I do agree that this games has a serious lack of in game information. I’ve been playing since launch and I still need to rely on 3rd party websites to know what is what and where it is happening.
Your mistake was assuming everybody enjoys spending time doing dungeons/fractures. Op might, but don’t make that assumption.

Your suggestion are worthless, so there is nothing really to discuss. Example, you want to get rid of the passive on signets, that is a nice suggestion too bad the very nature of signets REQUIRES that it has a passive effect. Anyway, worthless suggestion from a kittening liar.
Also the amount of work to overhaul this and test it out is not even worth, discussing it.
I think that if there is any catch involved with this change, it will be the frequently mentioned “Make it apply to self only” nerf, but I actually believe that there will be no change, as the main reason to run Arcana has always been to pick up the 2 EA’s and Renewing Stamina.
I think the worst option would be to put selfish EA as a minor trait and a major GM trait would make it aoe. Then, elementalist would be still forced into Arcana and still lose the support it needs if it wants to compete with shoutbow. It would make a sense, they need to come up with a new trait for a GM slot. And we would still be stuck with useless master traits.
Don’t worry people!!! Lyssa’s avatar on earth ( Robert gee our Lord and savior cough cough) won’t let anything that bad happen to any class! A nerf to the duration might happen but I’m sure Robert won’t allow anyone to mess up his balance ideas by nerfing anyone too hard. If anything the best way to nerf tank eles and the cele meta is to add more boon rip to the game which, by making necromancer more viable would occur.

Can you tell me which of these classes has a completely selfless trait as a GM in the trait line that used to be tied to healing power? None.Either got I comprehension issues or you didn’t even make an effort.
Engineer
GM Minor – Healing Power increased while under the effect of Regeneration
GM Major – Incoming heals heal allies for a % of that heal.Necromancer
GM Minor – Gain 300 additional healing power while your health is below the threshold (75%).
GM Major – Heal in an area when you enter death shroud.The Majors are completely selfless and the Minors only grant a pitiful amount of Healing Power. Yes, this affects yourself. But considering the scaling of Healing Power in general makes those traits inferior to Aquatic Benevolence.
Other classes which also got semi-selfless traits:
Mesmer
GM Minor – Phantasms grant regeneration to nearby allies. Your healing power is increased by 100 for each illusion you control.
GM Major – Whenever you summon a phantasm, cast Signet of Inspiration.Warrior
GM Minor – Boon duration and outgoing healing increased by 10%.
GM Major – When you grant yourself might, grant it to nearby allies as well.Yes, the Warrior traits are from the former Vitality line. But like it or not, both GM Majors are completely selfless. The Minors are semi-selfless but the selfish part is so small we can’t seriously be arguing about it.
There is a difference between having higher healing power and having only outgoing healing increased.
Yes, it is. The difference is that +x% outgoing healing is better in almost any scenario aside from self-sustainability because Healing Power has aweful coefficients. It doesn’t really matter that Healing Power affects yourself it it’s inefficient.
Those traits all benefit the caster, Aquatic Benevolence does no benefit the caster and it is a grandmaster major trai. IN any case, I am going to bow out of this “debate” with you because you clearly have an unmovable opinion that not even facts can change. I mean while argue with a wall, right?

It might not make it any better but behaving like Elementalists are sole victims here is just plain wrong. Two other heal-associated lines are designed exactly the same way when it comes to the GM Minor (e.g. new Engineer Inventions, Necromancer Blood Magic unless they change it to Vampiric Aura) and several classes are barely better off – meaning their GM Minor doesn’t have any too beneficial self-effects either (e.g. Mesmer, Warrior).
if you hadn’t notice this is an elementalist thread. Also are you really comparing a minor thread to a Major? The it can be a minor trait, but it is not is a grandmaster MAJOR trait.

Arena net doesn’t know what to do with the elementalist, they have never known what to do with them. The elementalist suffers from being the first class they finalize, it is a relic of a discarded combat system that was changed shortly before beta. Arena net could easily change it, but that involves work and those guys in the balance team seem to prefer pizza parties over real work.
I mean the guys on the balance team are the type of people I would love to get drunk with but not actually give them real responsibility except for Robert. He seems like a “get to the point” sort of fella which unfortunately also means he would be terrible to get drunk with.

I suspect tempest will be a boon stripping class. I remember Jon Sharp talking about how the ele was a relied on boons but could not take away boons and how future content will be stripping boons. Going by that logic, something related to striping boons, I believe.
(So far anyways, i might be hopping on the necrotrain).

Wow so much hostility LOL. You can buy GW2 for $10. How is $2 for 1 different weapon, 1 new trait line, and a set of utility bad? Its just a suggestion as seeing I don’t think I will buy a whole expansion for 1 small thing Anet can get to those people who only want some specializations unlocked. I’ve read Gw2 has sold over 5 million copies. Thats quite a pool of potential, seeing as a portion of those are second or third accounts. I have two accounts and might not even buy one expansion.

The reason why burst Elementalist doesn’t work in SPvP is a lack of escapes/mobility to correspond with it’s low HP/Armor.
Guardians doesn’t have either (escapes/mobility) and they are doing fine. Elementalist have very few damage mitigation skills. We have to rely on cantrips for defense and they all come with high CD.
In theory auras should be used to mitigate damage but for some old reason having an energy shield around you doesn’t block or minimize damage. All our weapons skills should have a couple of auras at 20-25 sec CD that blocks damage, but Arena net isn’t going to do that, not when Karl is still around.
I mean they probably wont tell us and it is on tuesday so why not see for yourself?
Nothing’s going to change – they’re understaffed, they’re trying to make one size fits all solutions as usual, and with Blade and Soul coming out I doubt GW2 is getting any extra investment from NCSoft to do ambitious projects like ladders or revamps of the competitive matchmaking system.
Yall need to stop ragging on Arenanet so much and blow up NCSoft’s corporate “Contact Us” emails to show them that people care enough about GW2 and that they’re willing to go to the source, not just yell and scream at the messenger and the understaffed worker bees.

Just because the revenant is a new class doesn’t mean you have to like it. There is nothing special about it from the other 8 other than it came out 3 years later than the others.
Not every class is going to appeal to everybody, which is what you OP and the others are beginning to figure it out. A lot of people get hyped over the new and shiny, it is childlike but normal.
Remember not everybody is going to like everything and that is perfectly OK.

Doing what you find fun is always a valid excuse when you are talking about playing a game – a medium whose sole purpose is entertainment.
Maybe a single player game but MMORPG are jammed packed with random crap design to waste your time as much as possible and not necessarily for fun.
Let’s assume the worst so what? Do you honestly believe Arena net will change up their plans because some people are whining on the forums visited by less than 1% of the population?
This is exactly what a lot of people demanded, I don’t want living story and I want an expansion well this is what you get. Between now and expac release some of are going to lose interest but that happens to every game so it is not a big deal as some of you seems to think it is. Guess what, people lose interest all the time but Arena net isn’t going to change their plans to please you. So if you can’t wait find something different or move on.
I agree remove all RNG that includes critical chance because all RNG is RNG. RNG is not good.

I don’t find leveling fun, but to maximize my time in the game, guess what I have to do? That is right slug through level 40 to 65. I just want to play a mesmer boom, level 1 to 80 of torture.
MMORPG constantly change, it is rather idiotic to expect that things do not change.
I feel like if it was easy it would be done by now.
I get it, so the joke is that since karl is the main Elementalist developer and not Robert, our elite specialization will be awesome in a sad and pathetic way?

This is how I feel.
Robert is awsome and when he talks about a certain class,he talks about that class. He knows he is showing this to public for first time,so he is on point. Unlike Grouch,Roy (ugh I cringe when he talks about anything) and others,who constantly laugh,get distracted by smallest of things and repeat X amount of times,that everything is work in progress (here’s a tip…put WORK IN PROGRESS ON YOUR GREEN SCREEN AS BACKGROUND), Robert really delivers.What I think about Necro’s Reaper is,if you can stow your weapon,I think that build has a potential to really play mind games with people. Question is will you be able to play mind games or will you be destroyed first?
I think they really need to give Necro a good portable skill(to get out of fight…I know you got spectral walk or wurm,but both show where you will be) or just up Lifeforce regen and give Lifeforce baseline of 25% to start with.Yes, he seems like the type that is all business and play later.
