mainhand dagger = meh melee offense
If this is true, why do I see a lot of Elementalists owning a lot of people with D/D?
When you have terrible options you go for the least terrible one.
Scepter sucks.
Staff while good has its own problem but it is two handed.
D/ suck less than scepter, therefore it wins.
How about you guys actually, you know, play the content before you declare it DoA? Seriously, Ele will probably get sword in a future specialization—so just wait to see what Warhorn actually does before getting all kitteny about it.
Did you consider the other possibility that people already hated the other weapon sets and that not even the new spec will change the fact that people hated the other weapon specs.
The class mechanic might be good, but it doesn’t change the fact that:
1. Some wanted a real melee weapon.
2. Some hate d/x
3. People like the focus and would have loved a new main hand.
4. In PvP, staff isn’t going to be viable.
5. Singularity sounds stupid.
6. Off hands are generally suppor weapon.
7. Warhorn competes with focus.
The only way this could be different is if by some weird twist of fate, the warhorn is a main hand weapon.
tl;dr
The new class mechanics singularity (maybe), isn’t going to fix the fact that the ele will still have to use D/D, it wont fix the fact that scepter is still a terrible weapon. Still wont fix the fact that D/x is kinda lame.
ADDED: the good news for you is, you can tell us, you told us to be calm. But I would rather to whine about it and be wrong. whining makes this situation less terrible for me.
I want this to be good. But Warhorn from a PvE perspective has to compete with our three best weapons: Focus, Offhand Dagger, and Staff while being tied to our two worst weapons: melee dagger and scepter.
If this does not have access to a firefield, then Scepter+Warhorn will be completely useless. I just…cannot understand why they would release this now. If scepter has some rework, then yeah…it could work. But right now…our mainhands are the lowest tier weapons we have.
Even if the specialization and abilities on their own are good, what can this warhorn provide that staff cannot? Staff has a permanent fire field. It has some extremely powerful AoE. Its autoattack in fire is very strong. Then it has a ton of utility in water. Dagger mainhand and Scepter are going to drag this weapon down unlekittenanges their skills too.
I want thi sto be good. I want it to be given the fair chance it deserves to be a choice for our weapon kit. I don’t want this to be something that just gets tossed aside. And honestly, I just cannot see how this is going to bring anything new to the table.
Exactly, focus is a great weapon that needed a good main complimentary main hand, IMO. D/D really go well together, staff is a decent weapon in it own right, scepter is a terrible worthless weapon in PvP anyways.
A sword provide the possibility for a newer way to play the game.
Well folks it has been fun, but I am out. I am off to necromancer land. (the warhorn was just the tie breaker, I have an irrational hatred for the dagger and scepter isn’t ever going to be fixed).
warhorn confirmed for ele has hate for dagger… leaves for necro what
Believe it or not, it might not be top of the meta but at least it has one thing going for it, the developer responsible for it isn’t karl.
Also sooner or later two things will happen.
1. Cele amulet gets nerf.
2. Karl does what karl does best.In any case, when you are in the bottom you can only move on up. Besides, I actually enjoy the play style in PvP more so than I do the ele.
Necromancer is proof that no matter how at the bottom you are, you can still get kicked in the nuts by Anet. Also at least the base profession for you guys is still top tier basically in every mode.
Ahhh, so this is what being punched in the face feels like.
Thats a feeling we Necros have had for almost 2 1/2 years now X)
Ele was pretty much down until the cele was buffed.
As for necro, I just started playing it (I made it years ago), so for me I am joining it at its lowest point. also I know what what it felts to go from BWE1 (high) to BWE2 (low) until cele amulet was buffed and it was buffed on a weapon set I hated, so the ele has always been down for me in PvP anyways.
1. Arena net is not going to answer. They rarely answer anything relating to future plans or they enjoy watching people complain, I am not sure.
2. Arena net is not going to answer. They rarely answer anything related to the future plans.
I suspect if they were going to do anything it would be in HOT, when it would be the best time to implement a lot of things.
Right now as long as the leaderboards do not matter, leaving doesn’t matter.
Just throwing this out there: Mesmers got an offhand and got Continuum as our mechanic change, a powerful time-manipulative shatter. I would not be surprised for Elementalists to be getting a 5th Attunement or an F5 of sorts.
Considering the datamine class mechanics rewards sticking to one attunement, well you know the rest.
1. Elementalists are like the best class in the game, so stop complaining. It’s so so horrible that you can’t do anything in pvp without water and arcane, all that sustain must get so boring compared to playing necromancer and being hammer trained time and time again.
2. We don’t know what the warhorn or elite spec will do at all, so complaining about a weapon is foolish when you have little more than a speculative guess about what it will do.
3. You can spec into tempest without using the warhorn, after all it could offer great things for D/D ele in terms of new utilities. Honestly most mesmers that spec into chronomancer will take torch over shield, and I can guarantee that. Meanwhile the necro GS is so slow that it won’t be a given take on many pvp builds with all t he blind spam right now.
4. There are tons of great warhorn skins available if you’re able to drop the coin on black lion skin. I have howler so it’s not my concern, but there are plenty of other warhorn skins that would go awesome with my Ele like the tempest warhorn or the ley line warhorn (I have all the leyline Ele weapons).
In what world will a mesmer take torch over shield? You think a stealth skill on a 24-30 sec cd on a weapon with a terrible phantasm is gonna override a weapon that can generate 2 phantasms with one skill, phantasms that cleave, and has an aoe stun not to mention it’s the one weapon with alacrity granting capacity?
What are you smoking?
Must be some good kitten he is smoking and all I can say to him “let me git a hit.”
They can’t nerf D/D with the warhorn being announced as the ele spec weapon. If they nerf it even rangers would pity the ele.
Ill wait for the Dev’s explanation. And if it’s bad, I’ll switch to main Revenant.
They have heavy armor, dual sword, and 30 skills
Apparently criticising Arena net’s terrible decision is QQing.

I doubt it is going to be bad. They get 8 new weapon skills by default, and there are some pretty interesting things that can be done with a warhorn concept.
Other good news though, this will likely mean that 2 more elite spec reveals will be released next week and the following, so there’s that

Way to quit before you even know anything about it. Stick around a while and hear them out. Cast your judgment to your heart’s content after the full reveal.
Sorry for not being clear, I was talking strictly PvP. I will still clown around in PvE with the ele, but PvP not so much, the viability of the class depends on playing in a specific weapon set which happens to be a set that I truly dislike. I don’t see the scepter being fixed now the issues I have with the class in PvP ever being fixed.
Lots of kitten in this thread, I for one am excited.
I know right, how dare people hate what you like.
Come on man, you’re all hating on something we literally have 0 information on. Stop being so kittening childish.
Dude relax it is just a game. Me deciding to not playing a class doesn’t make me childish, it just means I have a difference interest than you and that is fine. Life goes on.

And you play a Mesmer (if I recall, a condition Mesmer)… I don’t even know what to say right now.
Who knew pvp players are hypocrites?
Well stream was just there to explain to us that necros are going to be even more useless when HoT comes out. RIP necro i guess :/ pfff
I was so happy for reaper, and when i saw that revenant(shiro) spec man….. That is just going to kill us, it has everything that necro is lacking plus much more.
Paging confirmation biad
I’m all for removing stats entirely and making the system closer to GW1 one, but that’s just me.
GW1 had IMHO close to the perfect skill system. It reminded me of collectors card game like magic the gathering where the skills were the spells and the stats we the mana. I loved the system and it was super versatile. It was probably harder for the devs to keep balance with so many skills but it was an awesome system.
The problem with guild wars 1 that balancing hard was the class combo not the skills. Once you take out the skills with the same functionality but bigger numbers you got very few skills.
The problem is that this could be exploitable. Just continually join matches and resign them for reward track progress. It would be a great feature if it couldn’t be used for gimmicky things like that, but there’s not really away to impliment that.
We’re not talking hotjoin are we? And how many points does one get on resignation? I’m thinking they could implement whatever checks and balances they had in the original GW1.
The check and balances added up to threatening to ban players, it never actually stopped, red resign day. That is why it is not in guild wars 2, yet. It should be, but if players are so desperate for rank points that they are willing to do skyhammer, I really doubt they will not abuse this.
What anet needs to do to ‘fix’ WvW is combine Green, Red, and Blue servers based on Tier to fill WvW out more. Just like EoTM, but instead Tier based.
I stopped playing WvW on my BL cause there just isnt enough ppl to compete in Blob wars. Instead Ill run EoTM now, which is almost as rewarding and at the same time less stressful. This is the direction WvW needs to take.
They are not going to do it, a lot of people here tend to have the memory of a 2 year old child, but when EoTM first came out a lot of people asked for WvW to behave similarly but with a more limited maps. The response from the community was “NO, we do not want that, we want to keep our communities”, communities will be destroyed.
So Arena net in their infinite wisdom decided to not proceed just because a few people cared about their so called “communities”. If arena net had any sense they would make it a red vs blue vs green, but allow people to select which map to spawn in.
Eternal battle ground 1 and 2
Red 1
red2
red3
blue 1
blue 2
blue 2
green 1
green 2
green 3.
Tl;DR
blame the dummies in the WvW forum who preferred keeping their communities vs having a functional game mode.
Everybody calm down. Anet is doing the smart thing by (slowly) correcting bugs.
Really? Part of the reason GW2 PvP has the “massive” playerbase it does is because they take so long to fix bugs / make balance changes, it is also part of the reason why people get worked up, because it means they have to put up with (or simply leave the game / leave PvP as most have done) some obnoxious OP crap for 6-12 months or they fret about Anet “balancing” some OP thing on their class and nerfing it into oblivion for 6-12 months.
If Anet actually did regular balancing, most people would be a lot more chilled out about these things.
Really i thought gw2 problem was because it had few game modes. Then I heard it was because of the lack of rewards, for some odd reason it keeps changing.
Which is why I said ‘part of the reason’, try reading things properly.
Don’t blame me for getting bored after the 2nd sentence.
They are already fixing their Mob AI, I am sure fixing minion AI will be part of the package.
I wouldn’t make assumptions like that. We’ve had improved AI in the game for a while now, the new mobs introduced with LS have better AI, and the kind of AI improvements they are making aren’t the kind we need. We need the current AI to actually work all the time, that’s really it, while minions that avoid AoE and things like that would be nice, it is all secondary to minions just actually attacking all the time.
Actually, i was talking about the new AI system they are working on. That hasn’t been implemented yet, because it was still being worked on during living story 2 and because the main developer of the AI even said so. Also the AI hasn’t been improved this past season, in a meaningful way. The mobs simply have more mechanics.
I am not implying it will fix it, but I am saying that HOT is probably the only chance it will be fixed with this new system.

Arena net never talks about future plans, this has been a policy for years and given how rabid guild wars 2 players are, there is no point. they tried to once but that did not work out too well.
Besides talking only buys 2 weeks worth of peace then another 6 months of QQ when their plans are further away then what people on the forum anticipate. The point being, they are not going to talk and even though I would love for them to talk, they are not going to suddenly change their policies.
Also based on their definition of communication those 2 new post you got today is them communicating. It might not be what you want, but they never promised to give you exactly what you wanted. Finally, I wouldn’t bother to link a 10 month old comment designed to appease the people. If you want to see if they are communicating look at the dev comments, based on my experience Arena net considers that good enough.

Well… The only way to make heal bot valuable (since this is basically what ventari’s legend is) will be to introduce an area degen around boss.
Healing power being what it is, there is no way that a player can “heal” it’s party since boss/silver mobs attack are OH KO mechanisms.
Tanking abilities being what they are, ther will never be “tank” since ther is no way to hold aggro nor to survive OH KO repeatidly if fights goes on.
You are wrong.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ubRKdpDfU8They do level 50 with 3 people in 30min and one of them is full clerics. Healing Power in the right hand can be good. Not as good a DPS/Support build since Support is better and don’t limit your dps, but still. People believe falsely that one person in healing gear will make the run take 3 hours.
Not being optimal doesn’t mean that it’s useless or even not efficient.
I saw nothing in this video proving that they need healing power at all. 90% of the support is done by clever block and reflect of the guardian. In fact fact I can do the exact same thing in knight armor set.
Don’t get me wrong I’ve never said that support is bad, I’ve said that healing power is useless as a support mean and will stay useless until they tweek numbers and scalling in a way that it become meaningfull. The only issue here is that Anet won’t do it because this will result in a feared imbalance in sPvP.
Pretty much this. The gameplay isn’t changed in the slightest.
If I build a character to support and deck him out in Cleric gear, it should affect how I approach and play the content. Right now I’m just playing a slower version of a DPS built character.
Why would you expect otherwise? Stats exist to only enhance what you said out to do, not to define it. In theory, zerker gear in dungeons should only be wore by people who are skill in active defense, while unskill players shouly on vitality, toughness and healing power.
Unfortunately, thanks to poor scaling and extremely old content with bad mechanics content every noob can get away with wearing zerker.
theres a difference of giving feedback, and 98 percent of the forums is people crying.
What you said is clear and in no way simply gibberish.
Players should always desire more.
And why is that?
Because I said so.
The desire to want more leads to progress. If you prefer getting crap on, you can always accept whatever is given to you.
Players should always desire more, it is up to designer to decide IF they should give it or not.
dont compare gw1 pvp with gw2. the only similarities between the two games is the lore and name. gw1 played like a fantastic moba with 8 skills and 8 teamates. gw2 plays like an arpg with team elements.
I feel like Arena net kept the name Guild wars because brand name is a very powerful thing.
I mean guild wars 1 was created to be a PvP only game with PvE adding as a practice for PvP and somehow the PvE became far more success than the PvP section (in terms of revenue). So their focus changed, with PvE driving the game, but unlike gw2, PvP already had a solid base to expand.
I just started playing the necromancer in PvP and i am using the Nosc cele build and I gotta say, I am having a lot more fun with this class than I anticipated. It is actually making me want to do conquest.
I like it, I will never play at a high level so most of the complaints about the class has no effect on my enjoyment. It is just a fun class.
Is PvE gonna see changes, old and new?

Honestly, any suggestion are this stage is pointless. You might want to wait and see how the supposedly new advance AI system works first.
Megaservers and upcoming WvW changes
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: PlatinumMember.5274
WvW could be more guild based, instead random server population based. It would encourage pugs to join proper wvw guilds as well.
Guilds leaders would sign up their guild for next week WvW, specified size of the guild there and times when they are expected to play. Then out of all the signed guilds there could be randomized world created with guilds stacked on them with similiar sizes to each other from the opposing ‘servers/worlds’. Guilds would no longer fight to win the week for some abstract points, but for things of actual value: some Guild Hall upgrades, new skins, discounts at npc’s, gems, guild siege blueprints…
Also it could solve the ‘problem’ of ppl doing scrims at maps instead in OS or GH arena, because, if there would be good enough rewards for winning matches, then it would be much more preferred to eliminate any enemy forces you see on the map instead of organizing some sparring fights with them.
This all could lead later on to forming guild alliances or guild ‘wars’ so you have high chance that XY guild could be on your ‘world’ but ZX guild would be most likely on the world you fight against. Leader would just have to specify which guilds he would like to meet/avoid while signing up for next match – open the panel and you see “We are at war with ZX this week” – increases chance to fight against them, “We are friendly with XY” – increases chance to be on the same world, etc. Many possibilities, if only a system like this could be created. Can someone from anet please read this person’s suggestion? This is good stuff!
You mean his terrible ideas. Any game wide system that is depended on guilds are doom to fail harder than the current WvW.
Also this terrible suggestion doesn’t deal with people who are unwilling to be a part of guilds.
Ummm.. you’re queued for ranked, with preference set to stronghold only. Stronghold is only available in unranked. So, pic says what about Stronghold exactly? xD
Not true. Get your facts right
Yawn.

Stronghold randomly popped in ranked matches though.
What you said while true, has nothing to do with this topic. The OP in its infinitesimal wisdom attempted to troll by queuing for stronghold in ranked even though stronghold was only available w/o a bug in unranked.
Zerker armor should be a high-risk, high-reward proposition. The Reward has always been there, but the risk never has been.
Hopefully, the Expansion will fix that somewhat.
After 2 years of same dungeon content of course players will easily overcome any content with ease.
The longer you play content the lower the risk.

So from now until that mystical expansion whenever arena net coughs your hype changes? That sucks for you and you should learn to not get hype about new products.
Your interpretation of what Colin said is WRONG. Damage will always be emphasized because how else will the mob hp drop? What Colin said was, they don’t forced roles via holy trinity and that gw2 has soft roles. That means support, damage and control. You will always to do require damage, that’s a basic fact. He did say that current system heavily favors damage while control gets screwed via defiance, but in HOT that gets fixed. Support has always been there via buffs, regen, protect etc. in hot if boss mechanics improve players will have to time their control and hopefully boss will not allow themselves to get burst down quickly, whether by the boss based on the AI video running away to reposition itself to avoid getting melee to death.
The truth is a lot of people like yourself don’t understand the combat system very well. Zerker will probably still be the best armor set in PvE unless the content is so tough that heavily punishes mistakes and boss mechanics improve significantly from the current lack of any in PvE.
Also there is something you must learn today, roles are not related to armor stats you wear. Roles are built into traits, weapon and ultities, class mechanics. Stats only improve the strength of the soft role you play. So healing power increases regen given to players (support). Depending on the class, good players can do all 3 soft roles, while in zerker gear. Other type of gear like pvt, exist for less skilled players in PvE.
In any case what Colin said is not brand new information. This was stated 2 years ago. However, thanks to the AI improvements coming in hot this might finally happen, if you want to get easily hyped (since it seems you are) find the video online.
Also that is
(edited by PlatinumMember.5274)
Maybe the system couldn’t find anyone as bad as you and knew if it didn’t get it just right you would come here and complain about it…oh wait…
It doesn’t hurt that stronghold is implemented ONLY on unranked, so the poor guy wasted 11 minutes of his life just to make another QQ thread. OP is either extremely clueless, a poor liar or believes he is smarter than everybody on the forums.
I gotta say, I admire his dedication to QQing about anything.

They should increase the timer to 25 minutes, this allows good teams to finish early while minimizing the chances of equally skilled teams to run out of time. 25 minutes, If no lord is dead, overtime 5 minutes. Lowest HP wins.
I don’t remember off the top of my head, but they should increase respawn timer the longer the game progresses. Because when you are defending your lord, if you die you can quickly return to fight. Teams should be rewarded for outplaying the defending team.
A hero bugged out when both of ’em appeared on the map. I dueled an engi there and the channel just disappeared but it remained visible on the minimap.
I feel like there should be a change with the channel. Too many times you can just get the channel without it being denied. On the other hand interrupt on hit wouldn’t be good either.
They could use a system similar to the new defiance where Channeling breaks after 2 to 3 CC hits and any skill use during or after channeling begins cancels the process. This means certain classes will not have more of an advantage in channeling.
OP not be rude but who you are trying to convince? the 10 distinct people who regularly visit the forums, OR arena net who has data on the queue timers?
You represent the essence of death while in death shroud, so why not. But it should be a master trait.
they turned up the dps to make the game feel more optimized, gaining specialization huggers who will defend the new model, even though it is broken. when , and if they turn the dps down it will show all we have left is fewer choices
Just because you are good at copying and pasting a stupid comment doesn’t make it less stupid or true.
So we got a highly destructive elite where the most reliable tactic to countering it is blind spam (which only one class can do effectively), evading and avoiding nearly every attack (which is hard to do on most professions), running away (most times doesn’t work) or moaing them (which only 2 classes can do)…
why are people defending this again?
I don’t see them defending arena net’s worthless balancing and more like mocking the guy because he let himself get hit 4 times, big difference.
Solo Q wasn’t the problem, it was Team Q. If they separated team and solo, the teams would suffer by not having enough teams to go against. If the pvp pool is 20x the number, then a separate queue would make more sense.
Merging queues is a stop-gap solution at best that does not fix the underlying issues. Let’s face it – teams are unhappy with the current system regardless of queue times, because it’s extremely hard to get good competitive matches with the existing queue system. If you have an established team and don’t want to waste your evening by stomping PUGs, your only option is to agree scrims against other established teams in a private arena, rendering ranked queue practically useless. This leads to the exclusive and stagnant scene we have, where the likes of ROM, Helseth and Chaith have to go on Points of Interest to practically beg WvW players to give sPvP a try in order to get some new blood in.
The two biggest issues that limit the growth of sPvP are the lack of incentives for entry level or mid level teams to stick together and tryhard, and the lack of in-game support for the forming of new teams. The only two segments of the sPvP population that are currently catered to are the ultra-casual soloers and the established top echelon of tPvP, meaning people with under 500 games or people that compete and win ESL weeklies on a regular basis. If only Anet got around to providing a proper seasonal league system with meaningful leaderboards and PvP-exclusive rewards tied to said leaderboards, the PvP in this game might actually take off and grow. A competitive solo queue is an absolute must-have part of that development.
I hate to tell you this but arena net over the course of the game has admitted exactly what you have said.
So you are not threading new ground. Unfortunately they are not going to change it until:
Numbers increase. I mean the fact that they haven’t change it probably means the % of ppl affected by it is not worth the extremely long queues for team PvP.
At best they might return it, during Hot when the hope PvP is reenergized.
Wow, that is rage quit inducing. Then again you did use the beta gear they gave you, so you never owned that gear.
But I would write support and complain, until they give you the dusk. That might inspire more people to buy the game in order to gain access to order to try their luck.
It’s ok, we aren’t archers, we are Rangers.
But bows are a defining weapon of our class.
It’d be like nerfing staffs to be useless on elementalists.
Apparently, rangers has nothing to do with attacking from range.
Also staff is not the defining weapon of the elementalist, unfortunately. That would be D/ since most of the builds revolve around D/ and D/ is the only weapon set that requires more than simply camping in one attunement in PvE.
tl;dr
bows are not the defining weapons of the ranger class in gw2, it might be if it was based on the LOTR archtype.
Staff isn’t either for ele, it is dagger/
How is this a problem with Stronghold?
He likes to complain about stuff, using popular topics. since SH is the most popular topic at the moment, he has to tailor his usual QQs to SH to get views.
because u aren’t testing how the rev looks, you are testing how it plays.
^That.
We want dx12 since it coming out soon with win 10, however the dev’s have said H.O.T will run on the same hardware we have now and no need for us to go buy any new hardware.
Considering dx12 are exclusive to more modern graphics cards and windows 10, I don’t see directx 12 happening for a LONG time.
But it’s still backwards compatible to those who don’t have dx12 video card.
My point is, why would they invest the resources into it, if it only benefits a very small fraction. One of the draw backs of playing a b2p game that only had its first xpac after 3 years, is that they don’t have a lot of money to be investing in non-essential upgrades.
That’s how it seems anyways, to me. (I am not against dx12 btw, I am simply looking at it from a business standpoint).

Considering this is a hardware issue, unless arena net either buys new servers or changes the way skills communicate with the server with the xpac then no.
DX12 will not help skill lag because the skill lag has nothing to do with graphics performance or optimizations in Windows. It has to do with the back-end server’s capability to process data.
They put optimizations in a while back that helped the issue, but all the changes since that time have caused the problem to return with a vengeance.
I wonder how they expect their WvW population to purchase on xPac for a broken game mode if it will remain broken. /shrug
Everything you said is wrong. It is because the server cannot handle processing all the communication. The skills send a command to the server telling it that player X has used skill 1.
DX 12 only benefits FPS drops, so again, you are wrong and it is a good idea to avoid spreading false information.
Given that you quoted me, how is what I said any different than what you said? False information? What you said is basically what I said just with a bit more meat on the bones?
In fact, nothing you quoted is false.
I am sorry, did I miss the convention where cillard.3986: became Chobits.2430?
The point being, if I wanted to address you I would directly and not someone else.
We don’t know but I suspect no. The reason being that although dx 9 sucks, the cost of rewriting their engine probably does not make it a worthwhile endeavor from a financial standpoint. I mean if it was, they would have already done it.
OK they revenant sucks, life goes on.
I don’t know why people think the revenant any different from the other 8 classes except that it is the newest.
OP do you like the playstyle of all the previous 8 classes? If your answer is NO, that’s why. Revenant is just the newest class.
