Here is my WvW build. Great for zerg as well as roaming.

Berserker works just as well but its harder the less defense you take. If you can, replace some jewely or armor with knights / soldiers.
The field combo works on both strikes. If you get a light field on the second strike then you have delayed your combo and the waterfield has expired before the second strike.
Iirc the heal from the blast is a set amount of about 1,5k.
Overlapping fields tick for their set duration anyway. So the light field would still tick blinds while your waterfield keeps ticking heals. So yes but you can only combo one at a time.
Edit: This is also very usefull in PvE where you usually play with flamethrower greades and mortar. simply set down the flame thrower field first and the blind field after so you and your party can blast might in combat while blinding the mobs arround you.
(edited by Pride.1734)
About the mortar fields, it blinds every second. But thats also in the skill discription. All the other mortar fields work the same way. Initial damage just once but the field effect gets applied every second. Also the finishers gets applied to the oldest field you have set down. For example if you want to heal up against a war or other close combat fighter you place down your water field then the blind field on top of it. Then use the mortar toolbelt blast which will heal you up twice by comboing with your oldest field, that is the waterfield.
Grenades are pretty great Imo. They can be used offensively with their toolbelt skill which does loads of damage and can be used twice with your trait. You also get many usefull condis that can be used both offensively and defensively. Their best use imo is that they can spammed while running in any direction you choose. If you look into your options you can bind a key to looking behind you as long as you hold it. This works greatly when kiting your opponent. You can stay offensive and defensive at the same time. Its also great for hitting stealthed opponents and killing mesmer clones/ other minions.
I can feel you for feeling weak as an engi atm snce there have been lots of changes to our traits and setups, but adjusting your play will surely lead to some nice results.
I play Marauder engi in PvP and Knights/berserker in WvW and have mained this class since i started playing 2 years ago.
The setup is elixir s toolkit and grenades with traited mortar in WvW and Elixr x in PvP.
The main trick to playing the engi this way is to get your combos down and retreat when you have to. Toolkit and rifle can setup your grenade barrage pretty well and following up with imobs or chaining knockbacks is key to succeding with this build.
You also get lots of ways to disengage or prolong the fight. Since the healing turret has a pretty low cooldown and you can get yourself up with blasting our jumping through your waterfields you can often come on top of an engagement when you can effectively los our kite the enemy. Direct engagement will almost never work, except if you can get of your combo from stealth of unepecting/ bad players.
The matchups are rather decent for the most part. You have decent chances against warriors guards rangers and thiefs if you can negate their burst and counter them when you get the chance. Guards can get kired fairly well if you time your blocks and invul for their meditations. On warriors you need to watch out for the right tells and save your dodges. Rangers can wreck you with their burst and taunt trait if you aren’t careful so save you elixir s for these o kitten situations. And thiefs can be handles fairly well with your block and by throwing your grenades where you think the thief is hiding. Mesmers Necros and Eles are pretty hard matchups depening of what build they run. Power necros can be dealth with but against condi or cele builds you will have a hard time. The base advice i can give you if to keep up the pressure and cc so that they don’t get any momentum. Against mesmers you need to stay patient and time your blocks. Force them to use their cooldowns on your grenades and low cd burst, then when they have used their distortion and blink you can go hard. Granted condi mesmers are very tough to beat on any profession so you might want to straight up disenage if you see that you can’t win. Against eles i suggest you try to burst them down out of stealth and if that fails just disenage. You probalby won’t win against a competent one so save your time for when you can +1 them and take them out quickly.
All in all know your matchups, disegange a loosing fight and get your combos down.
Hope this helped.
They will nerf ele like they nerfed ice bow
Here you go.

He has a good point though. Master Fencer may not be the issue you are having and nerfing because you “believe” that you are losing to it will affect a lot more than sPvP.
If you really believe it is OP, provide some substantial evidence.
much troll much cant read what i already posted much wow
Affect PvE =/= affect bad pugs. Your point is flawed from the roots.
For the record i play mainly mesmer necro and engi and noticed the damage spike from this minor trait myself while using it. Trying to turn this laughable argumentation of yours arround by attacking my gameplay without knowing how or what i play is beyond pathetic.
So bad pugs is your argument for leaving this trait as op as it is? im done.
As stated above its not so bad once you get used to it and can actually be nice when used corectly.
I was mainly going on to talk about the idea of nerfing master Fencer. This trait helps out pve mesmer in dungeons a lot and right now, even with the trait, they are still one of the lowest sustained damage classes. Just telling people to think about multiple aspects of the game before asking for nerfs. Thats all, good day, please continue.
Since when was fury in dungeons ever an issue? You get that thrown at you left and right.
Mesmers cerrtainly have dps issues there but its the phantasms not the fury.
(edited by Pride.1734)
Bet i will still be writing this in years…
Please give us healing bombs back. MDF out Healing Bombs in. (And fix the bomb radius)
Mesmers:
Blinding Dissipation 5 secs icd
Nerf Master Fencer. The requirement for 100% fury uptime is laughable when compared to other fury traits on other classes. And its a Minor!! Either make the requirement way harder like 25% hp or nerf the duration by half or more.
Bam fixed.
Wit the lack of healing Bombs engi sure has lost lots of frontline viability.
But on the flipside they can serve as pseudo ele thiefs. With fields and blasts for the zerg as well as pulls and grenade burst for focus.
Actually i think its the opposite. no class should have anything like this. A single trait that shuts down all of your armor weapons traits sigils and runes if you specced a specific way is just bad design.
Obviously a troll. Everyone, Engi is super strong against condis! We can cleanse every condi burst on demnand! We also have no problem with cover conditions! And all our condiclears have super low dooldown so can constanly cleanse! /sarcasm
(edited by Pride.1734)
This thread is about cleansing burn damage. As an engie, I have no problem with cleansing burn damage.
As a 2.5 years engi main i find that sinceerly hard to believe if you have been playing against competent opponents.
Maybe you missed the memo about engies having better condi removal after June patch. I suggest you familiarize yourself with the new specializations.
The guy who posted below me even explained it already. We can remove singe condis allright-ish( mind you still not great) but burning gets applied like candy and competent players also apply some cover there is a good chance we cleanse the wrong one and die. Either you really are trolling or play against poor opposition.
While i don’t play necro or rangers in dungeons i am more than happy to let them into my group or defend them if an argument breaks out. As stated before the content isn’t that hard and if you got the boxes checked that make the run smoother ( reflects, stealth, blinds) the rest can basicly pick whatever they want. I would definitely prefer a solid necro over an ele that constantly kisses the ground.
I think the main thing why people do not like necros or rangers is because people play them wrong and the group doesnt take the time to explain. I want to say first that i saw lots of great necro and ranger players in dungeons. These are “hipsters” in that they are great players that realize how easy the content is and that they can be effective in it while using non meta classes.
But many of them also have no idea that a so called linecaster zerker ele meta even exists or they wouldn’t be playing those classes in the first place. Thats when you see staff camping necros or knockback lb rangers.
There are many new players joining the game now that the x pac is arround the corner. Of course this applies to all classes to some extent.
So long as you speak the same language and have enough time then nothing should stop you from explaining how their class is best played. Even if you don’t have the time you can just say: “copy the build from Metabattle and learn to use it if you want people to like you in dungeons”.
In short good necros and rangers are cool, new players need help.
PS: don’t forget that if you wait 2 mins or more for your perfect group than a normal one you should have taken the necro/ranger/2nd war intstead for a faster run. Oh the irony of pugs.

Good engies like to stay alive.
I have absolutely no issues cleansing burns on engie with my amr hgh cleansing synergy spec. I have 3 engies I primarily pvp with each with a different build. Kinetic battery is ok if against high dps opponents.
Good engis stack the burn, moa you and you die. Kinetic battery mainly improves burst oriented engi comps like the marauder rifle aaaand the burn engi.
I love it. It is a form of character development. She associates the Sylvari with her sisters death, but during the HoT story she wil regain her trust in the Sylvari and especially in you the commander who wants to help them.
I do wonder about the anti sylvaro route though
To engi’s a kit being broken is simmilar to a whole weapon being broken. As it stands our melee weapon is destroyed visually, functionally, and it lacks healing.
(edited by Pride.1734)
classes that apply high burn ticks are often single targeted, engie and guard.
i play Mesmer too and it’s not hard to avoid/dodge or interrupt their high burn skills.
if against an engie, use your cleanse from incendiary ammo and just keep distance to negate pistol 4. that’s it. then the engie is screwed coz of long cd.
vs guards it’s easy to dodge from blue fireball, stay away from burn field. if they teleport, use f4.
Not quite so simple. Good engis can use the burning toolbelt 3 times in a row before it goes on cd. Guards proc burns that you can’t evade and running awy from the guard whenever he has a blue circle isnt always an option.
On topic: on engi my only instant cleanse is elixir s and usually im pretty much dead by the end of it if it happens to cleanse the wrong condi.
Kinda funny how conditions was supposed to be a mesmers weakspot.
Also good with bringing the other condis up to par if burning gets nerfed.
]
hii play a glass burn engi. the combo you mention requires me to be point blank, as range increases i apply less and less stacks, also, its almost impossible to pull off while facing an opponent directly unless they’re an utterly stupid person.
i have to wait for them to be engaged and preoccupied or use my long kitten CD low duration stealth to sneak up on them. so it requires a really good amount of set-up, much more so then on my BS thief and i can pull it off much less frequently.
in addition, i run glass for full effect, so yes, while i do down people, i also get downed very quick. i can go more tanky, but then i wont be downing other glass builds anymore, tried it out. incidentally, this only works vs glass builds or someone who has a good chunk of health already missing and their CDs are no longer available so its whoever gets a good jump on the opponent.
glass vs glass, 1st glass wins, working as intended to me.
why would you play glass when you can do more damage than Marauder rifle with regular ol balanced burnin’ ?

Oh wow, what did Anet do with the patch that launched today?
Worst reset in a very, very long time. People are dcing left and right, lags, rubberbanding, crashing, etc.
This. Half the people are constantly lagging with screen freezes, the other half can’t even get on the wvw server for more than 3 mins….
Better cleanse second perfect then because next second you will be pretty much dead. And if you cleanse second perfect it just gets reaplied like candy.
Effort VS Reward in absolute perfection /sarcasm
Its so ovious that it has to be nerfed that i don’t even feel the need to explain this…
yea and while you are at it fix the visuals… i look like i stole a rice cooker and run away from the authorities the second i draw the kit
When I was young I used to pray for a rice cooker, then I realized that God doesn’t work that way….
So I stole a rice cooker and prayed for forgiveness.
And while they are at it give us healing bombs back plx.
For some reason i get the feeling that our elite spec will be focused arround healing with gimmicky drones and thats why they removed our healing bombs….
Alright so silverw(h)astes does give a pretty decent number of shards. Especially the chest farm seems efficient under the new circumstances.
Also to those people who have suggested dailys. Sorry i just can’t go back to waiting for months of getting like 5 shards a day when i used to throw them left and right by the hundreds. I do dailies anyway with or without them giving me shards but while this method might suffice for acquiring them for new players its hardly viable for vets.
(edited by Pride.1734)
Alright thx for your replys
I will try silverw(h)astes.
Ok thank you for your reply. I’d rather spend hours grinding than wait for dailies. So whats the best way for PvE? Ok i guess eotm is kinda PvE… but still…
So apparently i missed all the changes to skillpoints on levelup. Having had about 500 when they converted i thought it had all stayed the same and continued farming dungeons and crafting stuff with them for a profit.
Now while trying to make another ascended armor and after completing a full set of all dungeons and paths i realized that you do not gain them from levelup anymore and that they drop way less. I got whooping 5 shards out of it.
I do realize that this is my own fault for not reading the patchnotes carefully.
So here is my question. Whats the best way to farm them right now?
yes, yes, yes after nos face tanking 2 members of TCG on point for so long and push far point win every 1v1 against DD ele.
yes need more survivability.
No he didn’t? Against onrg he even lost 1v1 to a cele ele. #Hardcounter
Again i do think necros are better of right now than they used to be. The mere fact that a top ranked team brought a necro has to speak for something.
With all those eles gaurds and engis around bringing good boon strip is a valid counterplay. And im happy that the changes to signets make necro actually good at its role now. That being said there are still the same obvious problems necro always had.
But he wasn’t winning 1v1s vs eles. He either died or had help. I think at one point in the finals he died to the same ele twice in a row.
#hardcounter
“The best Necro in the world” just got rekt in 1v1 vs a cele ele #hardcounter
You forgot chill not impacting movement skills, nerfs to chill in general and that they are basicly adding traits that reduce chill duration to almost every elite spec.
Blinding Ashes is weak for a Grandmaster Trait by its application of single-target blind with a global recharge
Doesn’t blinding ashes have a cd for every target individually? like it can proc on 5 guys in a row.
wasn’t this trait the reason they nerfed our chilling darkness and chills in general in addition to nerfing the chill on gs?
so how about they let us aim them like the guardian Longbow skill 3?
I’d love having more controll over it.
I also think mesmers want the same with shield 5
Cool stuff thx for the effort. I was wondering if the GS auto only looked so weird on my charr.
Imo male Norn has the best animations.
Maybe the problem lies with the dagger. Necro weapons were designed to have terribad auto attacks, I mean look at Staff Scepter Axe and Greatsword….
Dagger needs a nerf to be on par with his terribad counterparts
/sarcasm
Yes but its all cele accessorys and dolyak runes. Can’t make a build with that :/
So topic.
The only way i see so far is to have prepared your bank before the beta has started. Now the back for my beta chars wont update even if i delete them all.
Is there any way to do this now?
Pretty much simmilar experiences from me. I even made the Volkanus greatsword in preparation for this and i really wanted to like it. After many hours i was forced to admit that its slow clunky and unrewarding in about any gamemode. Do yourself a favour and switch back to daggers.
Please healing bombs were a good thing! Give me my frontline engi back
Just remove the new medical stray field trait for the old healing bombs. Its a supid trait because of the internal cooldown and random healing getting pumped out you can never time tis to make a good heal. There is zero play to this. The range and percentage is pittifull as well.
(edited by Pride.1734)
+1 Please give us healing bombs back!
