900 range.

That’s a 40% range reduction.

Grandmaster grenadier trait: Increases explosion radius and how fast grenades fly.

Problem is: Grenades need to be ground targeted. You generally have less than 900 range due to it. You simply won’t be able to grenade down from a wvw keep wall anymore. You won’t be able to use the territory anymore. You won’t be able to start a fight with a chill grenade anymore. You won’t be able to use a poison aoe field / weakness stack with grenades anymore.

Basically anything that isn’t medium to close range with grenades will become the game just saying “Out of range” all day.

Mortar might have horrible damage, stats and could be as buggy as the original. It likely won’t be, but I have few hopes of the new mortar being able to compete with what the grenade kit used to be. I understand wanting to push something new but er. 1200 range on nades would quite simply be more, well, fair.

Explosion radius on grenades is already rather big. Extra large for the chill nades.
Faster travel speed was needed – Rangers now have it incorporated into the longbow at -all- times. Engineers don’t get something like that for grenades. We got our best utility nerfed and now we’re here and having to hope that the mortar will be as good.

I have my doubts.

Grenadier is an adept trait now. Awesome right

We still get a friggin rockets to shoot down from keeps and conditions never really affected zergs anyway.
And they will still be usefull in PvE and PvP.

I think we are going to be pretty good in PvP. Cele might become viable. Overall the buffs here seem nice.
WvW doesn’t look like a big change. A shame we have to take all of Blood Magic for one cd reduction.

Major build issues that these changes create-

Powermancer- a lot of them will still want to take spite and curses trait lines with all the good stuff in the curses line that supports power and the new chilling darkness/ bitter chill combo. The issue with this is there is no grandmaster trait in the curses line that supports power. The closes thing is Terror that wont scale in dmg for power.

Staff users- Speed of shadows(DS CD reduction) and Soul marks being in the same tier is still bad. Reduced DS CD is very important for survival and a long DS CD negates much of the purpose of greatly increasing LF generation from staffs.

I’d like to see reduced DS CD go baseline and speed bonus folded into vital Persistence.
—Sidenote— If this doesn’t happen, Close to Death is a way cooler name for a trait than speed of shadows.

I agree wholeheatedly on the curses. They should give us at least one good power or even support option.

A few tweaks should be made. Otherwise most people are going to select the same traits for every build.

This seems to be my biggest fear for the necro at the moment.

Ok so fury in death shroud and crit for each condition shouldn’t be in the condi line and there isn’t enough reason for power spect to go there, Cele might become good now though
Adept and Master traits only really offer one good choice for condi specs each while grand master offers 3 condi based choices. Makes little sense to me.
Not being able to take Terror makes me sad and i don’t think this was needed

Spite:

Minors seem pretty underwhelming. No one wants increased damage when downed. The rest seems pretty cool though. With unholy feast and death shivers I can see frontline necros being a thing in wvw.

Death Magic:

Nice buffs to minion mancers i guess…
Not a bad line per se, but there just seems to be little use for anything but minion mancers. Nothing really screams whoa i want this!

Blood Magic:

Looks like kitten.
I suppose they kinda buffed the numbers from Vamiric rituals but its probably still not even noticable. 2k health when you got 5 guys waiting arround in your well not moving and you not being in death shroud. YaY… What a pitty the purpose of wells is to go into DS after you put them down. And this is the best trait in there!

They clearly want us to go here. Not a single bad trait. Why can’t all our lines be like this. Seriously i like all of it.

Difficulty can be subjective. For me my engi is easier to play than my necro even though my engi has 3 kits. This may be because i got used to having these tools and they do not confuse me anymore. Now the difficulty arises when debating what to do with the necro that does not even posess a tool to deal with most of these situations.

Anyway rather than the difficulty its more about the results.

First of all maybe it is just me and my personal experiences may come down to me being a medicore player.

The Topic:

From what i can see Ele’s are the top profession of any gametype.

In PvE they offer the biggest DPS in the game + soft and hard cc, amazing support lots of fields and lots of finishers. I mean its pretty hard to make an argument for filling the slots with anything non ele when you have a guard already.

In PvP the Celestial varriant can beat about any other class in 1v1 and shrug of conditions as well as direct damage while dealing great damage themselves. Zerker with focus offer allmost no counterplay because all the spells are instant casts with instant procs from fire/air sigill. Even then they get all of that from their weapons and can take all the defensive utility they want.

In WvW they are the main source of Damage and can lay waste to entire Zergs. As well as sustain their own with waterfields and harrass the enemy with static fields. They also make excelent roamers and scouts.

I get that elementalists are supposed to be able to do many things but right now they seem to be the best at everything.

Ele is arms dealer.
And my Necro is forced to only care about himself Q.Q

Overall there is way more to it then just DPS even if everyone is wearing zerker gear.

The most viable axe build will still be DS centerd. For PvE the dagger cleave makes the axe pretty obsolete i guess.
Overall its a nice PvP buff.

Not complaining about the lich form at all. In pvp you rarely stay in lich form for all 30 secs anway. Seems more like a PvE nerf to me. but then again it should scale better with might stacks now so it might actually be a buff.

What we realy needed was group support or unique debuffs/ damage mupltipliers. Or you know just anything that makes Necros usefull in groups.

Second if Mesmers here are just going to spout out all the condition removal that Engineers have regardless of how useful those traits and abilities actually are, I’ll do the same! Mesmers have a mantra that removes 4 conditions from yourself and your team! Signets can be traited to remove conditions and Mesmers have 5 signets! They can trait to remove 2 conditions on heal and if you combine it with signet heal, that’s 3 conditions removed on heal if you run signet heal! Is that more than Healing Turret! Yes it is! Crazy! Arcane Thievery can transfer conditions! Null Field is a pretty big and powerful aoe condition removal ability! Torch can remove conditions! Mesmers can also use Lyssa Runes because they have a useful, low cooldown elite that they can use, AND they can proc Lyssa without even using their elite! Geez louise that’s just plain ole insane in the membrane! How useful is this information you ask! Not very! So goshdarn it please stop listing every condition removal ability Engineers have because 1. it doesn’t matter and 2. Mesmers have more anyway!

PS to the guy that said Mesmers ran 0 conditions in ToL: first it doesn’t matter what people run in ToL! Second Mesmers in ToL ran Null Field because it cleanses more conditions than Healing Turret, strips boons which Healing Turret can’t do, and the condition removal isn’t tied to the heal skill! Wowzerz!

Holy moly thats crazy indeed. Wish i could even have a fraction of that on my engi…

Honestly i dont quite see the use for turrets in my build, except for might stacking maybe.

And thank you alot for shaing that build! I will edit mine and fuse them accordingly.
But there are still some questions that i have about it. Why pirate runes and doom sigil?

And why 30 in alchemy over 20 and 10 in firearms. I guess that would have to do with his lack of any stunbreakers which also leaves me pretty unconfortable. Im not a complete noob at pvp (spvplvl 49) but imagining that i would have to die for every little mistake that i make honestly sounds pretty frightenting.

Honestly i think PvE needs the most balancing. There are soo many groups that only accept Ele War or Guard because all of them have ridiculous support while having very good damage and/ or sustain. Thief- for skipping only. Mesmers have the same kind of weird portal skipping niche as the Thief. Engi Necro and Ranger are just unwanted.
Dungeons are cleard by skipping stuff, abusing broken mechanics and lumping together on one spot abusing the dumb AI.
Also Zerker gear rules but i doubt that will ever change.

All of this was just so vague. And they didnt even comment on the concrete state of affairs just some ‘like it should generally be’. I’d have loved had they adressed some points like Necros Engis and Rangers being rather useless in dungeons or Skyhammer balance.

Everyway mesmers play its allways AI abuse and they get hate accordingly. Except that all the other AI classes cant do 7k+ Damage with their pets.. or insta cast them… or cast them on a dodge roll… or go invisible that long or on such short CD. There is the life advantage tho.
