scrapper has convinced me that the only real way to expand the engi would be to add more kits
also yes, scrapper is strong and yes its boring as f
So to recap:
-faster net shot travel time
-blunderbuss cast time reduced
-make overcharget a direct attack
-jump shot gets evade frames
Does that make it balanced or op in your opinion?
Dont forget the mobile merchant
Also i agree on pretty much everything
^Condi engi wants to use grenades bombs and flamethrower anyway for optimal damage. Now and with the added pistol buffs and shoes nerf there is really no reason not to use that loadout.
Also if you wanted an easy roatation chances are you wouldn’t be playing condi engi in the first place.
I do wish that the had gone lighter on the nerfs or reduced the cooldown because as it stands it doesnt justify a 40 sec cd.
And here i was gonna ask if you guys dont also find it too easy to kill people now xD
Amazing how most of you can still be negative- mesmer subforum at its best
Anyway things to consider, looking at the patchnotes thiefs seem to have gotten some buffs that some of their skills now specificly cleanse torment and confusion as well. Looks like anet wants to play the old rock paper scizzors balance again.
Linking the worlds, new rewards (including a wvw armor!), stability changes and so much quality of life. Hoestly its amazing! Almost hard to believe how they got all of this right. Great job!
I never liked these pesky ai thingys to begin with. And now im finally motivated to play the old engi rifle with grenades again.
Screw the hammer screw the scrapper. I can finally kill things! I am finally mortal!
I know that the patchnotes aren’t really as big as i make them out to be but im so glad that this was all it took to realize that throwing grenades at people and knocking them of cliffs with my rifle was all i ever wanted.
I would trade anything for the AI
Still works
Just take merc and some different runes when you run it in pvp.
Same issue with the elxir gun and some mortar rounds. Basicly engi on a tower wall is only 50% as effective.
Condi engi is a solid option, but when you look at power the first question that comes to mind is: Why not use a tempest instead?
So its not that its bad, but there are just better alteratives.
I don’t mind. I mean i do love cosmetics- but not in a 2k gold kinda way. So since i will never be making a legendary im not even affected.
I am pretty sure tho that some people would buy lots of gold to afford these legendarys. So im not sure how good this decision is from a financial standpoint. Then again i havo no idea how much work it is to produce a legendary weapon skin.
I use mortar quite often for its fields, ranged damage and orbital strike. It’s far from useless and has a place in many builds; especially for WvW.
Just a tip for you and another nice thing about the mortar. You can fire it behind you. So if you hold down the button you have set to looking behind you you can run at full speed while shooting the mortar and dont need to backpeddle.
(edited by Pride.1734)
Yes orbital Strike is just too slow. I think thats the worst part of the kit. I can deal with the delayed hit but the cast time shound be halved or something.
It is literally impossible to get 10s of superspeed because it doesnt stack. Also slick shoes is 5s and doesn’t have a 15 sec cd. If you want to call something op, its the tripple leap from the hammer that you can use in a water field.
The thing is all the classes are like that atm.
Mesmers heal with every shatter while having 2 elites and dealing insane condi pressure. Druids can get to full at any time they wish too and don’t even need to speck into dmg because their new pets hit like a truck. Revs also do sick damage while being extremely tanky. Nekros same story.
I do agree wiith the notion that the new elite specs have destroyed alot of not just our but of every classes build variety.
The visuals have really grown on me. I can also deal with the size and verticalty.
But some of the impossible to defend walls, automated defense turrets and the PvE events in the middle make me die a little inside everytime.
Above average production quality, good player and i like the commentary. Good job!
PS: Yer one tanky son of a gun.
The walls need to be thicker. Player weapon AoEs can just engulf the whole depth of the wall, making it a death trap and one of the reasons why I defend far less than I used to. It’s especially bad with the power creep.
Exactly. I’ve been saying this for ages any time defense threads come up.
Since OP did a nice job with paint, I thought I’d make my own example of how wall thickness should look.
How it should be on the left and how it is on the right. As you can see AOE’s represented by the red circle can cover almost the entire wall. Where as on the left it only covers half of it.
As a defender it would sure be nice but as an attacker it would be terribly boring.
I basicly upgrade my weapon every 10 and my armor every 20 lvl’s. No need to bother with runes or sigils til 80.
Guts Greatsword (and armor)
If you bought the game at launch, yet have not a single max lvl char that hardy qualifies as “playing” the game. My thought is that you should not be playing MMO’s in the first place if you cant get to max lvl in the most casual one out there.
Well condi mes is still the king of 1v1 but that has always been the case. However Mesmers are still very lacking is large WvW encounters. I think nerfing the one without giving something to the other isn’t a good idea.
Grav Well deserves a hit tho.
I’d reccomend pretty much the same with flamethrower over elixir u.
That is simply not true. I always use mortar. It has great utility in having 4 extra fields that each have some great uses. Also in wvw it acts like an arrow cart in that you can shoot safely over the walls because the projectiles traven in an arc.
Mortar > Gyro every time
Okay cool so this is already reported. Hope it gets fixed soon :x
^But for example in the lord room there shound be nothing to hit.
In wvw when i try to shoot the number 5 skill at the wall of a tower or keep when i am on top of the wall makes the projectile 80% of the time simply disappears. No field nothing. Also happens sometimes with the mortar. This sux quite a bit when you are fighting to the death in the lords room but your healing field just refuses to come out.
Has anyone else noticed this?
Its certainly better than engi used to be in WvW but still a long way away to becomming meta.
I dont even switch builds and gear from roaming to zerging anymore. This kinda works for both.

Ranger VS Engi – Certainly its a pretty balanced matchup and heavily in your favour if you run condis.
Ranger VS Scrapper – You probably have very little chance with a a power build.
Druid VS Scrapper – IF you master your class you have an extremely favourable matchup no matter your build.
Hello,
I have now encountered this bug pretty much everytime i play wvw on my engineer. The projectiles from my elixir gun and mortar are supposed to hit the ground and leave fields behind. Instead they just disappear when shot at the tower or keep wall. This bug usually appears when you are on top of the keep and shooting the projectile at your feet for healing etc.
Sorry if this bug is already known and thank you in advance.
Yea you basicly have to choose your battles very well. You can win 1v3 if you play it right but on the other hand you can get get kited so hard that you wont get a single hit in.
The upside is that with the right skillset you can get out of tight situations pretty easily. I dont even use stealth anymore.
I have got the PERFECT build for you. This build will make you fall asleep or money back!
I use this in open world PvE for the ultimate try less build. Bullwrak medic and purge. You just use them drop and forget, then press 1 on your flamethrower and go afk to make yourself some tea~

Self-Regulating Defense is much better than MM in wvw. During a zergfight there are huge spikes and sometimes you have to hold out when walking through the enemys zerg or through a chokepoint. This equals 4 secs of infinitely scaling defense. Almost a neccessity for any frontline engi.
Also while you can easily have 100% swiftness uptime compared to 100% kit uptime which is stupid and will never happen. In wvw outside of solo situations you will always have swiftness anyway even if you do not skill for it thus requiering zero investment. Super speed is just the cherry on top.
Naturally you dont take defensive traits in PvE.
The only op thing is the tripple leap. With this you can heal alot or stack light auras among other things. Change it to one leap. Bam balanced. This aint rocket science.
Do note that scrapper is very easy to kite atm. When it doesn’t come to standing in a circle its on the weaker side of the spectrum.
Rapid regen easily. You neeed fairly good swiftness uptime though. If your build doesn’t have swiftness alltogether then go for MM.
Also its not really about being better then backpack. Though the way scrapper is being played right now its way better than backpack. Also alchemy has better alteratives than mass momentum.
Im all with you on this. Afk’s should get kicked from the map but if you have been participating the whole meta event only to get thrown out there should be a way to get back in.
Is there any news on this?
Kinda sux that when you disconnect you cant get back in even with a disconnect group or squad.
Human female, blue hair with the flower in it, annoying dubstep and/or anime music, generic PvP and/or WvW montage #2312.
This, nothing to see here folks.
Maybe after they reach 1k gemstore outfits, to celebrate the event a new armorset will be added for wvw. xD
Actions per minute.
The PERFECT solution: Change all gyros to kits. Use the fuel mechanic to give them a timer when used and a cooldown after use. The cooldown then scales with time used.
My only real qualm is the laser even in the new BLs, which runs directly counter to this “strategy and defense actually matters” rework by letting people completely ignore your preparatings as long as they have a bigger zerg at the laser
^This
Also while it might be too slow maybe we just have to adapt. And the result of upgrades being worth much more might be a good thing in the long run.
For both I’d use Marauder armor and weapon with soldiers trinkets.
This will give you enough bulk to run effectively on the frontline, but doesn’t kitten your damage so hard that you can’t kill stuff anymore.
Funny enough light aura is the only aura that still stacks. Probably an oversight by the devs. You can get like 13 secs of light aura if you jump in your elixir gun field 3 times.
Here’s a nice one
I love using gyros in open world PvE for the ultimate try less build. Bullwrak medic and purge. You just use them drop and forget, then you press 1 on your flamethrower and go afk to make yourself some tea
