I think it’s based on your level. If you run an area that’s WAY lower than what you’re actual level is, then you’ll end up getting crap. But, if you run in an area that is SLIGHTLY lower, or on par with your actual level, you’ll get better drops. And the increases for “Exotic” won’t really be that high. That’s likely to still be a very rare drop. especially on anything less than a “World Boss”. I could be wrong, though, so don’t quote me on it LOL
im ok with low population actually, when i see someone we usually chat and group to go rock the big events.
feels more real and cool than how it was at the beginning, with 20 people zerging a champ…
now at least, 2-3 toons rocking a champ makes for cool fights!
I’m fine with Low Pop. areas, as well. It makes the events more fun to have a solo go at it. That’s just my opinion, though. Not everyone likes to solo. I’ve been that way on every MMO i played. I’ll try to do something alone, before I group up. It’s just in my nature i guess :P lol
@OP
Don’t forget, they have a third option for their legendary weapon. You can combine BOTH swords to make ONE, with BOTH the effects lol
@OP
I think they said anything that you can get in the chests, you can get from drops while running around in the “Sea Of Sorrows” area, and the dungeon.
If you have a source for this (And not just that chests drops rarely) i’d love to have it
“All the items found in the Consortium Chest can also be obtained as rare drops from any creature from the new Lost Shores event.”

Beat me to it!! LOL
He finally ate his bowl of Ascalonian Wheaties? Screw the karka, I’m going to check out the Shatterer this evening, to only fail because everyone will be in LA, lol.
Yeah, you’re better off just waiting until after the sunday finale lol
@OP
I think they said anything that you can get in the chests, you can get from drops while running around in the “Sea Of Sorrows” area, and the dungeon.
Grats. The sword looks HUGE, and I bet the sound it makes is just icing on the cake. Now they should focus on creating a staff that looks like an intimidating landscaping tool.
Man, it IS huge lol. I maxed out my “Charr” in the size dept. So the sword is bigger than most human/Sylvari toons lol. The sound is lacking, though. It sounds just like a 10 speed bike, when you stop pedaling, and coast LOL
The only down side to maxing him out, is that when I put on the “Mad King” costume, his head is so big, that he looks like a Basketball Mascot LOL
Here’s a Pic…feel free to laugh at my pain lol:
(edited by Pustulio.8207)
I once had a whole dye kit drop. That was really cool until I opened it and found it full of 50-shades of bleh.
No matter how many dyes I have on a character, I find myself only using a couple.
I usually enjoy a bit of “gotta catch em all” but w/ GW2 dyes, almost all of them I click in and never actually use.
I know what you mean, i only use “Midnight Fire” on my Ele. It looks blacker than “Abyss” on the female Tier 2 Sylvari Cultural Armor.
Here’s a pic of her:
The chainsword, you have to see it “in person.” It shows that they really can do some amazing things with skins in this game. The greatsaw truly merits breaking out the kittie censor. Over the top fluffy bag of kittens with a side of kittenly kitten-sauce.
I don’t know why so much of the other stuff they launched with is underwhelming, but it gives me hope for future items.
I don’t know why either, but, it is what it is. I’m sure they have some great ideas for the future, we just have to wait it out. I’m curious as to what legendary ARMOR is going to look like. If it’s awesome, i’ll feel more inclined to bust my kitten to get it. I don’t have that drive for the current Legendary weapons. I WOULD like “Incinerator”, though.
I haven’t seen anyone with the “one-handed” Chainsword, and I can’t find it on Youtube. If anyone has a link to a video of it, I would really like to see it. If I like it, I may try and buy a couple.
I got 4 from “Diessa Plateau” yesterday. All within a 2 hour period. I got 1 from a “story mission” in Queensdale that took about 5 minutes. After that, I decided to run around in “Orr”, and received NONE in a 3 HOUR PERIOD. I’m thinking it’s all based on location. I would expect that the “higher end” dyes drop more often, if not entirely, in that area. Maybe they are just trying to make it harder to get the best dyes. I kinda like it that way. It makes finding them feel more rewarding. at least to ME anyway.
Congrats! Although that Chainsword scares the kitten out of me.
lol that’s why i like it!!. It just looks like a BEAST of a weapon!!
Grats! Im hoping they release some cool daggers for me to work towards soon!
God, I know what you mean. My Ele. is a dual-dagger, and I was not really impressed with the “Halloween” skin. I got one in a chest, and bought the other so it would look a little cooler, but, it didn’t have an epic feel to it. Don’t get me wrong, severed arms holding daggers is an awesome idea, it’s just that they didn’t look like they had any serious effort put into it. They could have at least made the daggers the arms were holding LOOK awesome, or maybe made the arms drip blood, or have some sort of rotting aura emanating from them. Anything other than what they ARE.
I tried running that bugged event that everyone is running, due to “plinx” being bugged lol. Without using any “magic find” boosters, i was walking away with about 50-60 silver total, per run. WITH “magic find” boosters (the 50% booster from chests, and a 5% guild banner), I was walking away with 70-90 silver, per run. So it’s working pretty good, I guess.
Awesome, three of the greatest comedians in HISTORY…and Billy Crystal
I don’t have a picture of it (because it was an accident lol), but, a memorable moment for me was when I was exploring “Rata Sum”. It was an area with a “point of interest”, and a “Way-point” that was a few floors above an “Asura Gate”. I was very tired at the time, and started to fall asleep after getting the “Way-point”. Well, I ended up running off the edge of the building, and fell to my death….except, I didn’t die…I fell directly into the “Asura Gate” lol. I guess the game felt that I SHOULD have died, so, when i re-spawned in "Rata Sum, I was lying on the floor like I HAD died lol. I stayed in that position no matter WHAT I did, so, I had just had to finish exploring while in that state lol.
The following grew out of a discussion with my Guild:
THE CATAPHRACT
A Heavy-Armored class focused on mobility, conditions and control. An “offensive” counterpart to the Guardian, which is not to say it’s necessary higher damage, but that the Cataphract accomplishes similar ends by stacking conditions on the Enemy that the Guardian accomplishes by stacking Boons on himself/his allies. Has a pronounced Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse motif in skills and traits. All weapons are Cutting/Piercing, no Bludgeoning or Magical weapons.
The Cataphract’s f1-f4 skills are Aspects he can assume, which will add minor cosmetic effects no more pronounced than the rings of energy an Elementalist gets around his hands when attuning. All Aspects come with a persistent upside that always applies, and a chance to inflict some condition attached to all attacks. The persistent benefit is to one stat, and builds over time as you fight (probably fills defensively, rather than from attacking like Life Force or Adrenalin), draining slowly when out of combat – it doesn’t reset when you change Aspects, it just starts giving the benefit type appropriate to that Aspect. Characters should feel comfortable permanently operating in any Aspect, but get more benefit from switching between them as circumstances dictate, although nowhere near as often as an Elementalist swaps Attunements. Traits to add additional short-duration bonuses to Aspect swaps will be found in the Trait lines associated with that Aspect’s attribute. Only one Aspect can be embraced at once, although one of the Elite Skills would probably toggle all four of them for 20-30 seconds. Toggling another Aspect kills the current one, and hitting the key for your current one will shut it off if you want to operate with No Aspect for a time (may drop this feature and just say the visual effects of an Aspect suppress after 20 seconds out of combat or something).
F1 – Aspect of War – Adds a chance to inflict Bleeding. Persistent Buff increases Power. Traits upgrade to also add Burning in a radius around yourself on assuming the Aspect.
F2 – Aspect of Famine – Adds a chance to inflict Weakness. Persistent Buff increases Toughness. Traits upgrade to also Steal Health in a radius around yourself on assuming the Aspect.
F3 – Aspect of Pestilence – Adds a chance to inflict Poison. Persistant Buff increases Accuracy. Traits upgrade to also inflict Blindness in a radius around yourself on assuming the Aspect.
F4 – Aspect of Death – Adds a chance to inflict Vulnerability. Persistent Buff increases Vitality. Traits upgrade to also inflict Chilling in a radius around yourself on assuming the Aspect.
I was just saying the other day, that this game seems to be lacking “Eurasian-Heavy-Artillery-Tank-Men”…… >:/
Am I mistaken or is this an MMO? Just because they went free to play with a cash shop model doesnt mean content should dry up so fast. I played about 150 hours and got really bored, as I dont pvp. I know I am not entitled to endless content but this is a discussion board and am pretty tired of “O well you payed 60 dollars, and you expected endgame?!?!”
“I played 150 hours and got really bored”…150 hours out of a 60 dollar game…man you have it bad, don’t you? :/
did you get your $60 worth? if so, come back when a content drop happens. don’t treat this game like something you NEED to log into every day, and you’ll enjoy the time you DO log in for much more.
^this!!
People still have trouble realizing that they don’t HAVE to play all the time. It seems like they’re still stuck in the “I’m paying 15 bucks a month, so, if i don’t play as much as possible, it’s wasted money”, and the “If I don’t play all the time, I’ll fall behind, and nobody will want to group with me” mentality that was forced onto them by “WoW”. If you’re bored, log out for a month, or two. All will be as you left it, when you come back.
Well, on some level I think it WOULD bug them. But not that much. The game has proven successful, so I’m sure they aren’t running home crying into their pillows after hearing some stupid kid insult the game. But, at the same time, nobody LIKES to hear bad things about something they put YEARS of their life, into. A-net didn’t become successful by taking advice from people on forums, who think building a computer makes them smart enough to know the “ins and outs” of game developing. They got successful by IGNORING THEM, like they should…
I have not seen many bots lately. I can’t think of anything bots ever prevented me from doing. They were a visual distraction though, and made the game less pleasant to play for that reason.
Yeah, I can’t tell you how many times I sat and watched “The Running Of The Bots” in Queensdale lol. Visual distraction, most definitely!!
If there was a new race that were, at one time, minions of one of the “Elder Dragons”, that would be cool. They could be the source of a more dark/sinister “class”, that I’m praying gets implemented lol. They would be an invaluable asset to the other allied races, and be more blood-thirsty than the “Charr”. My kind of “race” lol
Glad you stuck around. Hopefully people follow that example, and be patient. A-net’s doing the best they can. I’m sure they are mass banning, as apposed to banning one at a time. It makes more sense to do it that way, anyway.
so is it everything the same except no overpriced lodestone needed and free precursor?
No, not at all. It feels like people don’t actually read what I wrote.
My proposed legendary consists of 6 gifts, chosen out of 10 completely different ones, each focusing heavily on one aspect of the game. This means that essentially a player can completely skip crafting or WvW when completing their legendary item, of which the current legendary items require both.
Not sure if it’s starting to make sense yet, but this is quite different from the current used.
I think what he means by “the same” is, while your “gift system” is different, it’s still the “gift system”. Also, they can’t NOT craft when “ingots” are required. if they don’t craft, they have to buy it from the TP, or have someone make it for them. BOTH have the potential to let greedy players take advantage of your situation. Which they will. They already ARE lol. A better system is to keep things the way they are NOW, and add a secondary option that requires NO gifts, but, still takes a LONG time. Like the one i posted in the link a few posts above. That one will pull the rug from under the feet of players that prey on other players. Nobody is going to buy your expensive crap if there is another option that would bypass it.
I don’t understand why people complain so much about having to grind, nobody is making you grind, just don’t get a legendary if you don’t feel like gathering the stuff needed. I’m over 50% done with mine now and I’m not even actually actively aiming for it, just having fun, no grind at all. If it’s the only thing on your mind and you’re not having fun doing it then I feel sorry for you.
Also, why do people keep bringing up that the stats are the same as exotics, they don’t understand how GW works I guess, so focused on stats..
The problem isn’t just the grind. The problem is a collection of things. Essentially, people are being punished for not wanting, or liking, to do ALL aspects fo the game. For example, people who don’t like to craft are being taken advantage of by other players on the TP.
I know people that spend most of their free time playing this game. Some have even spent hundreds on gems. Not because they liked what is for SALE, but, because they like the game so much. They want to feel like they “did their part” in helping fund the next expansions. Now, tell me, why should they be punished for not liking to do something?. Why don’t THEY deserve a shot at a legendary?.
The system that’s in place NOW rewards people who cheat by exploiting, botting, and showing greed, while pissing on the face of loyal players that have a personal distaste for only ONE thing in the game.
Let’s forget all that for a minute, and talk about the people who CAN’T do everything needed to get a Legendary. What about the people who may have suffered a brain injury??. Why should they have their faces pissed on, because they have an injury that makes running explorable mode dungeons impossible?
I’m really just venting, here. Sorry if it feels like i’m trying to insult you, in some way. It just bugs me when i think about it all.
I posted something related to this on another “legendary” thread. It’s an idea for an alternate way to get one. I liked the idea, because it would be just as time consuming as it is NOW, and, because it gives people that don’t like to grind things out (or craft) a chance at getting one. Plus, it would help curb the prices of precursors, so that people that WANT to do it the way it is now CAN without being taken advantage of.

4th post down
I have no problem with the farming, really. Gathering stuff from all around the world, 500 marks, hundreds of karma, and such, there’s no problems with it.
But the precursor, which is just all about being really lucky, is pretty meh :/
you mean “hundreds of THOUSANDS of karma”, right?. about 500, 000 if I’m not mistaken
If so.. why not make them exotics with special names instead? Why do arenanet only and only listen to the casual people asking for everything to be easier and easier?
I hope it only gets -different- and not easier. As in storyline added… time consuming in quests and events instead of farming gold = TOTALLY COOL. Just make their materials cheaper/easier to drop = Not cool.
Just so you guys know there are people thinking legendaries should be rare instead of every grandma out there has one in a few months.
if you want to see arenanet response.
I posted something related to this that I thought might be a good idea, here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Legendaries-worth-getting/page/3#post686452
It’s not a PERFECT idea, but, it’s not bad…at least I think it’s a good idea lol
Well, seeing as to LA is the “Capitol City” of the entire continent, I’m not surprised. The other cities are just “home cities” for the races. Think about it like this: what’s a “Charr” going to do in “The Grove”?. He’s bred to kill all day long. What’s an Asura going to do in “Hoelbrak”?, freeze to death?..get stomped on by a drunk Norn???, What’s a Norn going to do in “Rata Sum”?…He probably wouldn’t even fit inside the door ways lol
Ive already posted about why I think Legendarys are a good thing but not for me. I personally think the majority of the effort needed to get a Legendary is warranted HOWEVER I wouldve done something a little different. A lot of people here are rightly aggrieved that a large amount of time is needed to grind the gold required to purchase the mats (or grinding the mats themselves). So we need a way to reduce the gold cost of pre-legendaries and other mats…and its not too hard to think of one.
A new map(or more!) where you have a unique event chain that rewards you with a random ‘broken’ exotic weapon. This could be some kind of invasion you have to repel or any number of challenges. You could even design multiple challenges and have them picked at random. They should be challenging but far from impossible with a big group and would have to fit into some storyline that makes sense. Also access to this map should be irrespective of how much you play GW2 but should cap the number of attempts. By this I mean you get…lets just call it a token for now… a single token per few days/week/any time period and cannot buy/obtain anymore. You can access the instance when it spawns (although youd need a very regular spawn).
So im trying to think of a full example to give you the right idea. Off the top of my head…. :
Farmer Bob has found a way to bring people into his own dreams using a smoothie made from some strange fruit he picked while exploring Kryta. But things arent all peachy (get it?!) when you get in there… the Risen goddess ‘BlahBlah’ finds a way of infiltrating the shared dream and sets about destroying everyone she comes across with her Risen army. You complete the chain, kill her, save Farmer Bob and he gives you some scrap weapon he found while ploughing his fields- the ‘broken’ exotic.
‘Broken’ exotics cannot be equipped and are Soulbound. But they can be thrown in the Mystic Forge. You could say they have some sort of aura inside of them that binds to you and gives a slightly higher chance of an ACCOUNTBOUND pre-legendary. If not you get a single exotic which you can then sell to buy the other mats. Flooding the market with new exotics? Nope- If you only get one smoothie every 3 days thats 12 days per new exotic/character(or account).
So im open to hear flaws in the above idea. There’s probably plenty so feel free to criticise.
I kinda like that idea. Not the STORY exactly, but, the idea is pretty solid. Even if the craft rate is LOW, people would be more inclined to TRY for it. It would also curb the ridiculous “precursor” prices. In the very least, it would be a good “secondary option” for the people who don’t like doing one, or more, of the jobs necessary to GET a legendary. If they made the “craft rate” equal to the length of time it takes to do it NOW, it would be just as difficult. The only difference is “Option A” would be guaranteed RIGHT NOW , and “Option B” would be guaranteed EVENTUALLY.
A good example would be: You run a daily quest, get a “broken weapon shard” (or something), once you’ve collected 120 shards, you go to a “Gift Vendor”, buy a “Gift Of Twilight” , or a “Gift Of Sunrise”, (or whatever legendary you want) for a set amount of gold (like 100), then take the shards, and the gift to the forge to craft your legendary. In the end it will have taken you 4 months to get one (or more if you miss a few days). 8 months, and 200 gold if you want to shoot for the Twilight/Sunrise combo that A-net said is possible.
“Chester Cobblepot”
*Copperpot
OH SNAP!!, you’re RIGHT!!…sorry, I must have gotten him confused with “The Penguin” LOL
I was looking at someone that crafted “Twilight” on my server the other night, and showing it off. What it looks like to ME is, depending on what sword you get, that all it does is act as a window to a picture hidden behind the game. If that’s the case, the ridiculous effort put into crafting it just doesn’t seem worth it. The same goes for “Flameseeker Prophecies” or what ever it’s called. It’s a shield with a book on it the turns pages every once in a while. Not worth it.
Now, some of the other legendaries I saw looked pretty cool, like that scepter with the “scaled down” world on it.
EDIT (Because I didn’t want to add a new post): I’m curious as to what (if anything) A-net has planned for people that just don’t have it IN them to do everything it takes to GET a Legendary. I know some people will do it, whether they like it or not, just to say they DID. But, there are people out there dedicated to all aspects of the game, except for a couple things. Take ME for instance. I LOVE doing dungeons, farming for stuff, exploring, and just about EVERYTHING ELSE this game offers….except for ONE THING…I’m entirely opposed to CRAFTING. I HATE IT WITH A PASSION. Unfortunately for ME, it’s a requirement in getting a legendary.
Sure, you COULD buy stuff on the TP, but, people KNOW that if you’re going there to get what you need, they can do whatever they WANT to you. You want the “gift” you need?…200 gold…you want the precursor?…400 gold. It’s either THAT, or do something you HATE.
What about farming what you need, and asking someone if they would be willing to craft the “gifts” for you?…what’s stopping them from telling you " Sure, i’ll do that for you..but it’s gonna cost you 5 gold for my time, and another 10 gold to craft it…per gift"…NOTHING is stopping it. I know it’s an extreme example, but, it can’t be denied that it’s POSSIBLE.
This game leaves people at the mercy of other players when it comes to legendary weapons. And most players are greedy.

Isn’t “Shines” from EQ???…don’t remember lol
Could be wrong here but im currently watching this doc on netflix about an adventurer that got lost in the amazon named percy fawcett while searching for a lost city he called z or whatever. it could be the idea behind the 2 fawcett puzzles. funny really as im doing the puzzle now im like wait this guys name is fawcett hmmm. anyway could be wrong but he was an adventurer. but the fawcett in the puzzle seems to be more of a pirate or something.
Actually, (i could be wrong, though. Don’t remember for sure) I THINK the fawcett puzzles are the ones with the “Goonies” boat at the end. Which leads me to believe it’s more along the lines of “Chester Cobblepot”, the adventurer who died searching for “One Eyed Willies” boat.
Nobody mentioned the Galaxy Quest reference in the middle of lions arch yet? By Ogden’s hammer, What savings!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgv7U3GYlDYAlso in plains of Ashford, there’s a ruin with a sword, a frog, and a cat named Alfa. That I strongly think is a stealth Chrono Trigger reference.
OMG I forgot about the “Galaxy Quest” reference!!. That had me rollin’ the first time i heard it!! lol
Thief skill “Scorpion Wire” is a reference to “Mortal Kombat”.
There is a place where if you attack a chicken, you will get attacked by a BUNCH, just like in "Legend Of Zelda ".
There is, of course, the line “Shatter an adventurers dreams with a single arrow to the knee” (or something like that) that is obviously a “Skyrim” reference.
There’s the line “urge to kill rising!!” which is from a Halloween episode of “The Simpsons”
There’s the line “You’re going to need a bigger bow” which is a take on the line in “Jaws”
EDIT: Remembered another one!!. The boat from “The Goonies” is at the end of a jumping puzzle!!
(edited by Pustulio.8207)
People today don’t play for fun, they play for REWARDS. If an area is dead, that’s because it doesn’t offer rewards that meet people’s expectations. If Anet ups the rewards for doing events in all areas, people will start to come back to them. It’s a shame, really.
I like the Multi-Guild option. I’m in 3 guilds, and each one serves it’s own purpose. One guild is solely focused on the PvE stuff, one guild handles the PvP stuff, and the other is nothing but farming / crafting. Whichever one I’m in the mood for, is the one I represent. I’m sorry if this sounds like criticism, but, have you considered that maybe it’s the “You MUST represent ME if you want to be here” attitude that’s making your guild seem “less than good”?. It should NEVER be assumed that it’s someone else’s fault that they don’t represent you. The first thing that needs to be done, before you blame them, is to think about what it is you are doing in your guild that could be making them not WANT to represent you. Nobody wants a guild leader that sets a bunch of rules that MUST be followed OR ELSE. Guild Leaders are still just gamers. They are no different form the lowest rank in the guild. The title means NOTHING. Don’t assume people are gonna respect it, because for the most part, they WON’T.
Also, don’t try to force them to do something. If they don’t live up to your expectations, then kick them out, and replace them with someone that will. If that person doesn’t, then repeat the process until you find the right one.
Now as far as people on other servers, that needs to be removed. If you can’t play with them, there is no point to them being in the guild. Until “guesting” is incorporated, anyway.
sounds like you need to practice jumping without stopping, to me. If I learned anything from the “Clock Tower”, it’s that not stopping is the only way to win!
Twilight is pretty sick looking. Sunrise on the other hand is lame, and looks like something “Warrior Princess Barbie” would carry around :/
@Drunken Mad King
Sorry, i think i may have been a little unclear. I don’t want to hide it, I LOVE the way the book looks. The problem is the Sylvari Tier 2 armor i’m wearing clips through it, so it doesn’t look good. I know they won’t change it to account bound, and i’m not asking them to, really. I’m just saying that it would be nice if it WAS, so i can use it lol
@Coglin
I agree with most of what you’re saying (these things DO get old), but, I’m one of the people that are suffering, in this case lol. I have 1 lvl 80 that I put nearly all my time into. My alts are lvl 5 at the MAX. Doing “mad memories” would be near impossible without help. And, it’s not that I “couldn’t accomplish”, I have the book, don’t I?. The only problem is it looks terrible on my Sylvari cultural armor (the leaves clip through the book). Why not make it possible to give it to a character that will actually USE it, instead of it sitting in bank storage collecting “E-dust”?.
I prefer what GW2 has. I would rather have 5 skills that i use all the time, as opposed to 30-40 skills that I barely use…..if at all
I agree, i did this on my sylvari ele., and since i have the tier 2 cultural armor (with the leaves sprouting out of the back) on, it looks bad. It would be nice to move it to my Thief, or ranger.
I second this!!
100g per day?…LAME..I make 200g per day. I cant just say how i do it, because it would just make things harder for me. If you MUST know, though, I harvest “vistas”
A Norn named “This Man There”. It’s a shortened version of , “This Man Over There”. He’s one of the 5 partners of the main bad guy, “That Man”, in the anime “Excel Saga”.
more of this crap?…great
I have a Radeon 7850, but, honestly, I could care less about DX11 support…
