I’d really like to see a full on jungle setting. If not for the visuals, then for the possibility of getting a “vine swinging” achievement.

Also, the “crystal desert”. It would be cool to have a JP, that requires you to get to an oasis before you die from dehydration.

Think about it like this… Would you, in RL, say to someone: “Yo, homie..before we go into this house…what kind of underwear you have on, dog?”…and, that is why it shouldn’t be implemented into “Guild Wars 2”

If they are OPTIONAL, then remove them from wvw as they have no part in it, block real wvw players from getting in and are the cause of a lot of friction between JP2 fans and wvw players.

I’m not super familiar with how the JP in WvW interacts with the rest of the map, so I can’t really speak to that. I am not an expert on all things GW2 or even JP. I’m speaking from my understanding of the subjects. I would be interested in hearing more about this dynamic though.

Hell, take up my suggestion from months ago and take all the JP’s OUT of wvw and make it it’s own area with it’s own queue system and I’m sure the fanboys here would all love you for it (and the wvw community would love you for it too). Imagine a whole instance full of your favourite JP’s in a pvp area!

That’s not something I have any power over. As I said, tell me more about how JP in WvW is ruining your experience. I’d honestly like to know.

For something that less than 1% of devs time was spent on there certainly seems to be a lot more of them and even more being developed while it been X months and most if not all of the wvw issues still exist.

The reason more of them are coming out is because it’s something the Map Artists can create relatively quickly in small areas that are low-impact and low-risk for creating new bugs and mucking with currently stable systems. I know that we have a good sized team that is dedicated to WvW, so it’s not like anything is being ignored in favor of making JPs.

Maybe the JP team should work on wvw and the wvw team can play with designing JP’s, then we might see some results on wvw.

It doesn’t really work that way. All of our teams have people from all disciplines working on them. There is no JP team. Unless you count my tiny little team working on this short special project. But there is no single team that makes all the JPs. Like I said, they get put in by Map Artists as the inspiration and availability permits. They are not a priority, nor a main feature.

but on the whole GW2 is not about jumping at all.=== so then they didn’t appear in Xmas event as a major part of it, or most other added content doesn’t contain at least an element of either ‘jumping’ or a ‘puzzle’? Fractals has at least one where jumping is a major part of it- of the 3 I saw there was plenty of jumping and opportunities to fall to your death.

Well, I did the JP for Halloween, but I also did a pumpkin patch map, and a boss map, as well as spending a lot of time decorating LA. And our other Map Artist made the maze. On Wintersday I did the airship interior. As far as content distribution the vast majority is still on other things. If your argument is “Why are you making content that I don’t like while X is still a problem.” then you will never be satisfied because the game will never be perfect. We are always trying to make it perfect, but sometimes our solutions will not be the same as yours. And sometimes X is what our designers have decided is the best solution so it won’t change. We can’t make a game that is 100% everyone’s cup of tea. We will spend resources in ways that you would not if you ran ArenaNet. We spend resources in ways that I would not if I ran ArenaNet. The same can be said for any individual in the universe. I hear what you’re saying. You don’t like JPs and wish we would put those resources into other areas. My only contention is that “resources” are not a uniform descriptor. Map Artists can’t fix whatever it is you dislike about WvW. But they CAN make content that appeals to a niche community like the JP crowd without impinging on other systems or turning the game into Super Mario Bros.

I’ll stop being ‘silly’ when you start being ‘sensible’ in your replies to a customer.

Deal.

Well, I did the JP for Halloween

As our artists have also said in interviews that one of the purposes of concept art is that it is a way to convey mood to a viewer and to serve as inspiration for designers. Concept art is not necessarily a blueprint to follow by rote. There is stuff in the game that looks like the concept art, but just because something is depicted in the concept art doesn’t necessarily follow that it will make it into the game.

Please take your tinfoil hats off and be reasonable.

I personally feel that there is a lack of competition

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pustulio.8207

Pustulio.8207

The thing you don’t understand is… Why wouldn’t both be possible? The game provides good gameplay for less competetive players, but nothing for competetive players? You naysayers are looking at it in a wrong perspective. If you want to play for fun, then fine you do that. But don’t stop other players from having their own way of fun.

They cannot both be possible.

A hardcore player in this game is equivalent to someone having a legendary. It is entirely cosmetic, yet we all know exactly what they did to get it. But its not enough is it? You want an advantage… you want to stand out even more!

You’re asking for something for hardcore players that makes them stand out from the rest, the only way you could do that is with gear upgrades. I would lose my fun the moment I log on to the game and realize I can’t do anything without dedicating more than 15 hours a week.

My time for “hardcore” gaming is now over, I am now 19 years old and I simply cannot afford to dedicate my time to a video game. As I said before, the only reason I play Guild Wars 2 is because I can log on and play on my alts and friends and feel like I’m not wasting my time.

This is the very reason I have spent over $500 in this game, from gifts to friends to gems. This is the most expensive game I have ever bought in arbitrary value, and it is worth every single penny. I did not gain any advantage, but the experiences I have ventured in Tyria is what made it worth it.

Fact the matter is, us “casuals” could care less about your conquest to get the best gear. So why should we be punished for hardcore players, in an arguably casual game.

Changing the manifesto of Guild Wars 2 would break the game for me and many others.

Why wouldn’t they both be possible? If you read my post i said ‘’only cosmetic’’ And even that lacks in this game. The legendary weapons lack in the story part, and doesn’t feel ’’legendary’’ at all. This game should be for everyone from casual to competetive. And i think you misssunderstood me. I don’t want to be superior to others and have better gear then other people. I simply want a better reward system. Everything from good looking cosmetic gear to ladders to achievments that tells people who are the best PvPers or PvE:ers.

And what purpose is that going to serve in a “casual-centered” game like GW2?…who is it you think is going to care?.

If anything, doing that will bring you more negative attention, than positive. Look at people who have legendaries. They get made fun of CONSTANTLY for having it. “why did you waste so much effort on crafting that thing”…“OH cool, you crafted a rainbow unicorn bow…I guess i should say nice lez-bow, eh?”…“Nice disco-stick”. etc.etc.

All you will end up doing is ensuring, that most of the time you spend in game, will be spent being “griefed” by other players for “having no life”. Is that what you want?

Which you are NOT required to get. The minimal increase does very little to make you stronger, and what little increase it DOES make, accounts for NOTHING if you can’t hit the person that’s killing you.

And If I can hit the person? Vertical progression is not optional.

There’s a small difference between ascended and exotic.
A small difference between exotic and rare.
A small difference between rare and masterwork.
A small difference between level 80 gear and 79.
A small difference between level 78 gear and 79.
And this goes on.

No one says this is an astronomical impact, but it’s a fact that a difference exists and is there.
Stop using this ‘argument’ to try and debunk a fact. You are not required to get gear, no one is.

The difference doesn’t matter. You can beat this game in “greens” with little to NO problem. That ALONE, makes it optional.

EDIT: Fractals being the exception

I will just repeat what I said above. Wait until the full ascended set comes out and then we will see if the +120 power, +120 precision and +25% crit damage will make any difference.

And, as I said before, unless you can hit the person that’s killing you, it will amount to NOTHING. You can have +800 to everything, and +100% crit, and it will STILL not matter.

You are now obviously reffering to World vs World. I know nothing about WvW, nor am I talking about it. I am only concerned about gaming liberty in PvE.

it doesn’t matter ANYWHERE. Change “person”,"to “mob”…the end

Vertical progression is a non-optional gear grind plain and simple. It is counter to the stated philosophy of Anet for the game and, as such, is inexplicable. I don’t know what they were thinking and I no longer trust what they say.

Totally agreed.

Judging from the videos they are just a bunch of kids with little gaming experience making it up as the go. They have shown the propensity to turn on a dime without looking back when it comes to design philosophy. I don’t trust a word they say.

Totally disagreed. ArenaNet has proved to be a great MMO publisher during the last years [Guild Wars 1, City of Heroes, Aion (at first)] and it seemed like GW2 was going to be THE game.

Anet didn’t make those two games, But, I too, disagree with him. GW1 was a very well made game.

When it comes to people that are using that bow, I’d really like the option to turn off the ridiculous effects it has, so I don’t “accidentally” leave a dungeon party when they start using it. I already “accidentally” left a party that had someone using “quip”, and another that had someone using “Sunrise”. I’m tired of these “accidents”, and would like them to stop happening. Unfortunately, until I get the option I need to fix the problem, I can’t promise future parties anything

I’m *GLAD they’re not trying to copy WoW*. Have you not seen what happens to games that try to copy WoW?. The game could be better than WoW in every aspect, but, as soon as someone decides to label it a "WoW Clone", everyone automatically turns they’re back on it.

So what you are saying is that if they use any IDEAS from WoW it is a WoW clone, but since WoW used so many great IDEAS from other games then WoW is still WoW?

I hate to break it to you, but the things in Gw2 are not 100% original ideas by anet developers.

No, but, there IS a very large group of vocal people that DO see it that way. And, once they catch wind of it, they make it they’re goal to rally everyone on their side.

started this game since it came out.. I dont even have any alts. Sure i have ascended gear and max exotic gear with all their sigils and runes. But Im still at 65% :/. Is there a secret? Or do people just have a lot of time on their hands. (dont get me started on the people who have 5 or more legendaries already)

It’s actually easy to get 100% completion, if you take the time to finish the area your in, before moving on to the next. I did all the starter areas first, then moved on to the 15+ areas, and then the 30+ areas, and etc. Doing it that way is a great way to keep your character from falling behind on his/her levels, as well. I get the feeling that’s what Anet wanted us to do, anyway. It could explain why you see "15-20, and “15-25” zones. That’s just a theory, though.

As far as getting all the WvW stuff goes, you will just have to be patient. Don’t be afraid to message the commanders, and ask if they could help you get some of the stuff you need, either. If you’re REALLY impatient, you could also switch to whatever server controls the majority of the maps you need to finish. At least until you have to pay for it, anyway.

PS: Don’t forget to get the “poi” inside the “Whispers” HQ. (for those of you that didn’t know about it)

A big war between Jormag(Frost) and Primordius(Flame)!! :o

It’s “Primordus”….and I agree. If two of the Elder-Dragons battled for “Territory”, that would devastate the area they battled on. I mean, look at the damage they did just by waking up. There’s 2 problems, though:

1: “Primordus” never came to the surface. He’s still underground, building his Army, and tunneling. That was actually a smart move on his part. He’s the only Dragon that is facing NO resistance from anyone. You can’t STOP, what you can’t GET TO.

2: “Primordus” is the oldest of all the Elder Dragons (Hence the name). Usually, the oldest dragon is stronger than all of it’s companions. So, “Jormag” would likely get his kitten fed to him lol. But, Jormag probably isn’t stupid enough even to try.

Go play another game until they launch new content. That’s what I am doing. I don’t like PvP or dungeons and there is nothing worthwhile to do in the open world.

So then what do you do in any game seeing how thats the end game in every single MMO.

Actually, most other MMO’s have an achievement system that actually matters, GW2 has infinite resetting achievements so it doesn’t mean you really achieved anything you could just exploit the salvage one. ANet, still being clueless about what makes achievements great, are going to implement a system where you actually spend your points as currency. Lolwut? Okay… best be adding a bunch of titles then, which I’m sure they won’t. You can’t even compare achievements or inspect people.

That alone gets people out in the world in say, WoW where you can do every quest in the game which is a hell of a lot for loremaster title (IIRC). Or insane in the membrane which is imo one of the hardest titles to get, what a grind.. but you get that title to show off “the Insane”

There is nothing like that, nothing that warrants any grind having a point to it, nothing to show off that makes you stand out. No rare mounts to collect, pets are horribly designed and you have to take them out every single load and mine seemed to disappear constantly for no reason. This wasn’t a problem in GW1 because it was heavily instanced and you spent a lot of time in an area no matter where you were.

No raiding, fotm is the only ‘end-game’ content there is and it sucks, hell is there even a title for reaching the high levels of it? You don’t even get any special rewards for getting up into the 40’s, it’s honestly pathetic. Are there rare pets, anything? Ask yourself these questions.

There is nothing epic about GW2. 5 man parties are lame, even in GW1 we had 8-12 man parties. ANet makes the same exact mistakes Blizz did with D3. Made the party size smaller and the game nothing but a boring grind, taking nothing what made D2 that special favorite of many. They literally scrapped everything from GW1. I don’t even see a hint of lore honestly, except for that one part where trahearne talks about the Guild Wars extremely briefly around level 50 I think it is?

Now let’s talk about raids. 10 or 25 man parties are epic, taking out huge bosses with concentrated team synergy. (inb4 people who have never even played another MMO talk about how ez the trinity is and how they hate it) Raids contain not only epic boss fights but lore, gear, recipes, gold, achievements, tons of team work, an alchemist laying down a cauldron of flasks for your party to buff themselves etc. Comedy relief, I still remember the ‘elevator boss’ as we called it in BWD. I can’t count how many times people missed the elevator and fell to their deaths, and I do believe there was actually a counter in your character stat’s that showed how many times you died to the elevator boss.

Raids aren’t just fights, they are an experience with rewards not only in loot but the experience itself. I don’t remember anything of note that is worthy of posting in this thread about GW2 dungeons except for the mysteries titan guy that thanks you for saving him in fractals and teleports away. That was cool.

Such a huge world with nothing in it imo. I really don’t think ANet gets it when it comes to full fledged MMO’s, and they need to wake up and take notes from the big dogs that DO. Don’t even get me started on the boring trinity and combat.

TL:DR I don’t like it, because it isn’t WoW >:(

That’s all you had to say, dude :/

Posters vs. Players

Active players, less than WoW I’d like to say, even if I prefer GW2.

How do I know? A few days ago I checked both WoW and GW2 pages on Facebook…

Last publication by World of Warcraft was 2 hours ago when I went there ; just over 8000 likes.
In that time, GW2 poorly manages to get 200-500 likes. When I came from WoW page, they were adding pictures to the fanart album posted over 1 month ago!! ; only 6000 likes.

So, several possibilities:
- Active players on WoW have 50 times more Facebook accounts than active players on GW2.
- GW2 posts crap so nobody likes it.
- GW2 is so awesome that players are stuck in the game and never go on facebook.
- GW2 has definitly less active players.

Active players on WoW have 50 times more Facebook accounts than active players on GW2.

This would make sense, since WoW is geared more towards children these days

its not about handhelding , its more about not having a variable (as it works when there is no one around and no effects) and artistic (because you can modify particle effects only so much) element of the game be the only source of precious combat info.

Its like saying “hey wouldnt it be awesome if instead of health bars your character model started bleeding, moaning and shivering?” yes it would, but NOT if thats the only source of information about your health.

Also, this is not a traditional mmo, you cant black out the rest of the screen ’cause dodges, positioning related skills, big circles of death, etc
Knowing an attacks is coming does not change that you still have to actively avoid it

It’s very much about “hand-holding”. By putting those bars up, that tell you what attack their doing, it essentially holds your hand through the fight. It’s like getting into a fight in RL, and having the guy yell: “I’m gonna upper-cut you in 3 seconds, so, you better roll, or cast block”.

the difference is that the game already tells you that ( if you know the encounter and can understand the tells, which is NOT skill, just basic knowledge of the fight you could learn in 30 seconds with someone in vent )

The difference is that the info would be accessible no matter how many people are spamming / how many fps your doing / how high your setting are / if the boss is on fire or behind another char etc.

Your comment would be relevant if, lets say, instead of telegraphed attacks the game worked with quick time events to dodge that “uppercut”. Then yes, knowing its coming 3 seconds before would defy the point of the attack. But its not like that, gw2 is less of a twitchy game then gw1.

You can try to justify it with whatever feeble excuse you WANT. It doesn’t change anything.
