Not all are bound, but this one is a lil annoying. I have 2, some people have 4+ lol. Would love to toss these in mystic forge or something.

Yeah, that would be cool. People would spend a ton of karma, trying to get them, if forging them gave them a chance to get something awesome. A legendary “Mini Zhaitan”, maybe?

Yeah, sorry if I formatted the paragraph really bad, I’m tired. I just honestly don’t know what it is about the game that makes me not want to play it. WoW is more exciting when you level up, and even if Guild Wars has the dynamic event system, it still sorta feels like a grind, doesn’t it? Most of the time I don’t even run into any, and when I do, it’s basically “kill this and that” "collect eggs’’. Sorry if I offended anyone by comparing GW2 to WoW.

So, you had time to type a response, but, no time to fix it?….interesting…

Should outdoor boss events drop loot?

Pustulio.8207

(sigh) Unpopular post time.

During GW2’s development, I used to look at those Tequatl and Shatterer event videos and the furthest thing from my mind as I watched their footage was the question of how many times I could farm them a day for rare drops. And yet, now this seems to be the only question on the minds of most players.

I’m sure the community that just wants to be showered in rare and exotic drops will strongly disagree with this, but I really wish Arenanet would just completely remove chest rewards from these open-world boss events altogether. Instead, make the events do something that gives players in the area a reason to beat them, like locking down a portion of the map until they’re defeated, or awarding victors with a buff only applicable to that zone. And then players who are actually adventuring in these zones will have a reason to band together and beat these bosses, no loot-carrot-on-a-stick required.

I would love to see these world events entertaining only a fraction of the crowds they attract now (who are there for all the wrong reasons). I choose quality over quantity every time. This whole loot pinata thing is just ruining the entire sense of adventure this game was supposed to have. I’ll even suggest that it’s introducing elements that are counter to the philosophy of the game. Those bosses are like open-world resources, and we’re now practically competing over them as we fight to see who can out-camp whom, with the loser ending up cursing on an overflow map. And not because we care about the boss or the event, but because we want that loot drop.

Wasn’t this supposed to be the game that moved away from that kind of unpleasant competition?

I, on the other hand, think the rewards need to be increased even MORE. To balance it out, they can just have the “Dragons” spawn in random locations. Make us EARN the reward, by hunting them down. Except “Claw”, of course. He’s the only dragon that actually moves around a little, so he’s fine.

While I do agree that everything you do in this game revolves around killing anything you can click, it would be pretty nice to have more constructive options. For example, why not “Hug 30 critters”?

Like……like, hug them with fire?….squeeze them to death?….this “hug” thing is confusing.

The JP we have nowadays just isn’t enough now that i’ve experienced the mad king JP. That was one of the best jumping puzzle experiences I had in awhile and now everything else just seems plain kitten easy :o.

Not to mention the theme and sadistic style of the puzzle was awesome, the christmas one, although was fun, just didn’t feel dark enough and was ultimately way too easy.

I hope anet has some big plans for future JP like this and I really hope that when the next halloween comes, it won’t just be a rehash of the old event stuff!

I know what you mean, man, that JP was so freakin awesome. It served as a great “Boot-Camp” for the inexperienced jumpers, and made the experienced jumpers near perfect. I SHAMED many EB JP trolls, after farming this event. I even had time to /point, and /laugh while they tried to catch up.

T3 Cultural armors - why so expensive?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pustulio.8207

As the title suggests, Im just wondering what the point of the exorbitant cost of cultural armors is?

I mean the skins are nice enough, but they are only “rare” quality. Im not about to spend 50+ gold to get a set of armor thats underpowered compared to karma exo gear or TP stuff. Im serious, what is the point of the high cost? Skin alone? If so make it Exotic, and worth the money. Right now, its completely pointless to spend the gold on them since the gear is rare only especially when I can get exotic armor for 40k or so karma a piece ,or spend a one or two gold in TP or even just use exo dungeon gear.

T3 Cultural armors – waste of time and money.

They’re expensive, because they’re are supposed to be the most “elite” armor skins available. That’s why they look so much better than 99.9% of the armor in the game. Including dungeon armor (especially on a Charr).

However, if open world pvp were introduced…the tune might change quickly.

“World Vs. World is one of(probably the) best way for your guild to not only get recognition, but respect. if your guild is influential enough here…you get the point.”

This should be removed. it’s just plain stupid.

As for the rest of it, the “incentives” will never surpass the PvE, for a player that want’s nothing to do with “WvW”. And, if you want “World PvP”, then go play a game that has it, instead of trying to force it into THIS one.

hey man, i found all my guilds through that and so have most of the people in my friends list. you calling that stupid is a little weird. and select few wvw guilds are even respected in the pve spectrum, that’s a very few number of guilds though. point in fact: if you have a commander tag and are a successful commander, there isn’t much your guild can’t do. whether it being the siege of stonemist castle or taking out jormag. the last part of the post wasn’t anything but an opinion. if taking a tower gave you 50s i imagine your reply would be quite different.

I said it’s stupid, because it IS stupid. Nothing weird about it.

A “Commander” (successful, or not), is useless when fighting in “PvE”. Especially “Dragons”. The “Commander” title serves no purpose in PvE, except to show where the “Commander” is standing.

50 silver wouldn’t change my response. 50 silver is 10 min. worth of play for a PvE player.

1- I chose it, because, everyone was going to more “popular” servers. I prefer not to be in a server “Zerg”. “Quality, not Quantity” is the saying, I believe.

2- There’s nothing they can do. I got my “Gift of Battle”, already, so I have no more use for WvW.

3- No. I’m not going to bust my kitten, doing WvW for a week, just to get a minimal benefit. (also, see #2 above)

4- You’re assuming it’s “fear”. “Assumption is the mother of all f@3k-ups” is a pretty good saying, that comes to mind.

5- A better question would be: "Why would ANYONE be impressed with “Sunrise”?.

And why so angry about it? Are you the same angry if someone wins the lottery in RL?
And what’s more important how is that different to drops in any other MMO that was and is on the market?

First of all, comparing to the bad practices of MMOs as justification is inherently flawed (“…and if you don’t like MMO’s you should REALLY check out GW2”).

Secondly, just because something already exists (like the lottery) doesn’t mean it’s a fun design. The only people that benefit from the system are the lottery winners, which are a very, very, very small % of the participates.

In a multiplayer game, RNG is small doses is fine. It’s the excessive levels that ruin the experience for many. Low chance/high reward is just not fun, inventive, intriguing, or satisfying for anyone but the lucky.

Is this your first MMO? RNG is one of the main parts of every MMO. Whether it is in drops, damage rolls etc. So if you don’t like one of the BASIC mechanismns of mmos… maybe play another game?
Or do you complain about the the rules of soccer as well? Also GW2 mentioned from the beginning that it would have a cosmetic grind. So I don’t know where you got that quote of, probably self made.
GW2 does a lot of things different than other MMOs, but is still an MMO.

And to your secondly: Noone forces you to play the lottery, noone forces you to get a legendary. I wouldn’t complain if I lost money in the lottery- you shouldn’t complain that a legendary (proclaimed as long time goal by Anet, source in some posts I made already) takes a long time.

RNG is not a rule. Questing is not a rule. Trinity is not a rule. etc.

These are conditions that current games of the genre adhere to. You have been ‘conditioned’ to accept it and obviously have a hard time seeing anything farther than what’s already been handed to you.

It’s not about force. This isn’t a prison. It’s about fun. This is a game. And the lottery is only fun for a small fraction of the player base. That means it’s only about .1% fun. And that’s not enough fun for a system as important to the life of the game as a legendaries are, imo.

Also, if it’s sole purpose was to be a long term goal some lucky players wouldn’t be able to get to the end result so fast according to what their big drops were or how nice the mystic forge was to them. Long term goals can exist and still be fair, fun, and reward based off of effort and accomplishment.

In fact RNG is a rule. Like I said. Or how would you do mobdrops etc. otherwise… static loot? No Critical hits? Welcome to grindwars… a boring static game with porenous bones as currency. Those are just examples of rng mind you.
Again noone is forcing you to play the game or go for a legendary.
If those parts are not “fun” for you the descision is entirely yours.

And your last pararaph is btw. only: “Some people have more luck than others, thats sooo unfair”. So get some arguments or play games that are entirely skill based with no random elements like chess.

As it SHOULD be, for obvious reasons. What RNG should NOT be the rule for, is “Legendary” items. People wouldn’t be complaining so much about it, if precursors were put on a system, that didn’t consist of surrounding your self with old dry chicken bones, throwing salt over your shoulder, spinning 3 times, lining up a row of “troll dolls”, and making a wish on your “rabbits foot”, In the hopes that it would bring you enough “luck” to get one.

I’m not a ‘drops’ farmer.

But I’d be interested to see some insight on this from people who actually use MF gear in open world.

Because right off the bat, by using MF gear, you’re gimping your dps/total kills per minute/hour/session. In favor of a higher ‘probability’ of drops per kill.

I’m no mathematician but it’d be interesting to see how this plays out.

That’s true, it DOES slow you down, but, that doesn’t matter if you get a group together to farm with you. Some people are under the impression that MF boosts on a player, somehow increases THEIR drops, as well. That’s why so many people want to group up during events. I don’t really pay attention to stuff like that, so i’m not sure whether it’s true, but, If it IS, I’d like to know if that increase is the full amount, or if it’s just a percentage of that players MF (example: player “A” 200% + Player “B” 200% = 400% boost for both? )

Cost of each Legendary part

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Pustulio.8207

Pustulio.8207

People have this unhealthy fixation on precursors. They seem to think that they are horribly expensive and everyone seems to have all 3 legendary gifts ready but the evil precursors are holding them back. This thread is designed to put some actual numbers to those claims and see what the costs actually are and how they compare.

I will not talk about the Gift of Mastery because none of the parts can be bought, they are all earned through various play styles.

First lets look at the gift of Fortune:

T6 mats- 250 of each type. Given market buy prices this will cost 249g as of writing. Using market sell prices this will cost 264g
250 ectos= 94g
77mystic clovers- 94g for ectos and 20g for mystic coins

Total cost = 457g

Next the Gift of " ". This one is different for different weapons, but I will look at the cost of 3 of the more popular ones. Bolt, Twilight and Incinerator.

Gift of Bolt: 475g
Icy Runestone: 100g
Gift of lightning: 358g
-100 Charged lodestone- 330g
-250 Ori ingot- 16.5g
-250 bolt of gossomer- 12.4g
Gift of Metal: 19g

Gift of Twlight:312.5g
Icy Runestone: 100g
Gift of Darkness: 193.5g
-100 lodestones- 175g
– 250 Ori- 16.5g
-250 leather- 2g
Gift of Metal: 19g

Gift of Incinerator:309g
Icy Runestone: 100g
Vial of liquid flame:
-Molten lodestone- 65g
-Destroyer lodestone- 125g
Gift of Metal- 19g

Finally lets look at the prices of the precursors for these same 3:

Zap: 320-390g
Dusk: 620-700g
Spark: 570-620g

As we can see, if you are making Bolt, the precursor is actually the cheapest part of the legendary. If you are making Twlight or Incinerator then the cost of the precursor is still less then the cost of the other 2 gifts.

The problem is you can break apart the other gifts and slowly buy the parts you need. For the precursors people need to save up a lump sum, and most people don’t have the self control to do that. They spend spend spend, instead of saving. If you actually have the other 2 gifts then you are capable of getting your precursor, you just need to stop spending and start saving.

The precursor prices have risen at roughly the same rate as the cost of the other gifts. As mats get more expensive, so do the things those mats are used to make.

All of this get’s blown out the door, when people legitimately farm the mats to make the gifts.

Why? Everyone can get a legendary eventually.

If everyone had one the name legendary would not be fitting.

If I work half the week am I surpised that saturday is still a bit off on wednesday?
They knew what they where up to when they started and that the precursor is a significant bit of the grind for a legendary.

There are 2 ways to obtain a precursor: a) Money and b) extreme luck (either drop or mystic toilet). This is just wrong! Players should get a legendary for actually playing the game, not through money grind or this stupid rng system. Like doing all dungeons, or JPs or explore the world or doing events, etc… It should be something you can buy for maybe 5000 achievement points or so. That way the player can choose what to do to get it. He can do what he likes. But he has something to do for it. Earning 5000 Points isnt that easy. That would be something i would like. Not money farm or luck.

I agree with this idea. I just hit 5000 points last week, and i’ve been playing since launch. For an normal player, it would take quite a while to get to that point, so it fits into the “it must be hard to get” category.

Have these people tried saving up money and buying it off the TP?

The non-precursor portion of the Legendary can be anything from 800-1000G. So I just kinda find it hard to believe that, if you were able to farm so much gold (or mats) to get everything else, you can’t muster the gold for the precursor?

“No matter WHAT they do”

You missed the part where I said that, it seems. As for farming that much, since launch, it’s not hard to believe. I’ve done it. All i need are the shards for “Gift of Mastery” to be finished.

So, wait, they tried and somehow failed to buy it off of the TP?

Depends on what you mean by “tried”. If you mean saving money in an effort to buy it on the TP, then YES, they failed. If they’re anything like ME, anyway (and most are). Every ounce of my time was put into acquiring the mats need for my “gifts”. Doing it the legit way, it took quite a while, and it required everything of value to be saved for use in those “gifts”. By the time I was finished with them, people had already raised the prices to the INSANE point, we see right now.

Well, I’m excited about it. Removing everything below blues from Champions is a huge deal. This will increase chances of getting greens, yellows, and oranges by quite a bit – it just takes a very basic understanding of odds.

It is quite frustrating killing a champ and getting a porous bone and with this patch, this shouldn’t happen.

still no reason to kill champs.

I assume you’re one of the people who do not have a basic understanding of odds?

The proof will be in the pudding, somehow I doubt that we will be satisfied.

I feel the truth is some players will simply never be satisfied with GW2 and ANets decisions – at least not vocally.

And I assume you’re one of the people that doesn’t have a basic understanding of “Anet”?. This means NOTHING. you’re guaranteed 1 blue, and under normal circumstances, that WOULD increase your odds…except Anet won’t let that happen..they’ll decrease the chances of getting anything BETTER to compensate for it.

Loot is still crap. Uuuuuh, a champion will drop a guaranteed blue? Awesome….not! At least give us greens for god’s sake!

Agreed. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES, should a “Champ” drop anything LESS than a green…And, don’t even get me started on the “Dragons”…that’s a mess that needs MASSIVE attention.

Tbh they don’t even need to increase the drop rate of precursors from monsters, chests or Mystic Toilet. They just need to stop people from manipulating the market.

The TP is a great concept and it works…. for 99.9%. With most items the supply/demand is so high, it is very very hard to manipulate it on your own, or even with a group of people. However with items with a limited supply/demand, it is very easy, and very lucrative to do so because your manipulating affects everyone.

It doesn’t happen with only precursors, also with other items with limited supply/demand, for example the Deathly Mantle Skin back in January 21st, the price tripled, and some few people made a lot of money.

There are people out there who make 5000g per week by buying out precursors and putting them up for more. This has got to stop.

Limit the buying (and selling) of precursors and legendaries to 1 (or 2) a day and the market will settle down. This will not hurt anyone except market manipulators.

what the NEED to do is put a cap on what precursors can be SOLD for. people can’t put a 600g price-tag on something, if they aren’t allowed to.

All Hail Colin Johanson and Anet!

That PR spin sounded like a joke to me. Sounds like things will just return to being as intended, which is not quite enough anyway.

So “not enough”, that most of the people that play, won’t even notice…1 blue for a champion mob….I’d be embarrassed, if I thought that was worth killing a champion mob for :/

How exciting!!

Flooding the market will destroy the value of drops anyway, no point wishing for hugely buffed loot :p

Ah……gotcha…because 600g precursors, and 2-4g lodestones are SOOOO AWESOME, huh? >:/

After reading reports in the loot issues thread, we spent more time investigating our rewards system. As I mentioned a few weeks ago, we verified that all loot tables are indeed working correctly in the game. Since then, we continued receiving reports that there seemed to be an issue, so we extended our search to all systems that created opportunities for you to get items from loot tables. Here we found an issue that we were able to verify was consistent across everyone who reported problems:

The rules by which you qualify for credit for an event or for experience when killing a mob are different rules than those used to help determine if you qualify for loot. Some of these were set up to be unintentionally restrictive, and as such you could kill a creature with a lot of health (this was most noticeable on champions) and not qualify for loot, despite qualifying for all other credit.

For the February Flame & Frost: The Gathering Storm release we will be repairing this issue to ensure more players are capable of earning loot credit for kills. This should fix the issue such that you got credit for killing a champion, but received no loot from it. Once fixed, all champion mobs will correctly always drop 1 blue or better loot item, and all veterans will have a chance of dropping loot better than regular mobs as outlined in the November release. Please note, it is still possible to kill a creature and not do enough damage to qualify for loot (which is the only way you won’t get loot for a champion), it is also still possible for veterans to not drop loot at all, since they simply have better odds of dropping loot than normal creatures but no guaranteed drops.

On top of this, we’re also updating some of the loot in various areas of the game for the February release that should make specific areas more rewarding. We’ll cover this is in detail with the February release notes.

Thanks very much for all your feedback and reports, that information has proved incredibly useful!

“Once fixed, all champion mobs will correctly always drop 1 blue or better loot item”

This is so exciting…I will always get a single blue, that has a chance to be better….I can’t wait to see the flood of gold THAT brings

They said that they’re working on a way to allow to get the pre-legendary easier, so just chill out, or take a break. No harm in that

They also said that they “were NOT actively working on it”. So until thy DO actively work on it, we need to stay on top of them.

i can never understand how people think the 600 g is “ok”, i had a precursor(dusk) drop for me, yeah i know i’m a lucky basterd, but i’m not even getting close to the rest of the materials, with the main problem being the lodestones. Now i’m not complaining here, but seriously all but the precursor should be enough… Gratz to the OP and i hope you get lucky.

I don’t know if i’m even ever gonna get a legendairy, the kitten behaviour of people around it is so rediculous, i’m gonna get it 3 times as easy because of simple luck, i’m not proud about that, it’s not an achievement, in fact i really find it so stupid… I get a feeling some people don’t even want the skin they want the status, seriously how sad…

I’d trade legendairy’s in for some cool content any day…
ATM i’m not sure wich day will come first, the day i get twilight or the day i put this game down, and i’m not the only one thinking that…

Btw now that i’ve got and soulbounded dusk, i’m getting bored of greatsword, how cool is that…

How bout we stop feeding the need of people to prove themselves with some kind of rare thing?
Customisation-> being unique, and having self-expression should be the goal, not being better then everyone else in a virtual world to compensate not being it in the real one…

This game is becoming elitist when it comes to skins, wich makes me sad…
I hate gear threadmills but i’m at a point where i wouldn’t even mind if they put them in while making skins more available.
I want to be able to tell my friends about a cool skin i found somewhere, or i want to be able to look at an awesome skin and ask the person where he got that, and not get an answer “after 5 months of farming” or “for 200 g + on the trading post” every single freaking time… And by the time you have it you’d actually want to swap weapons cause you are bored of that weapon, and mix up your playstile but you can’t cause you have to equip that expensive thing, how else is it justified?

Non-stop farming, grinding, being kitten at eachother because they didn’t put as much “effort” into it… Seriously,

How did it come to this?

I agree. For a weapon that is completely worthless, unless you have the other 3 items, 600+g is pretty stupid.

I find them somewhat annoying, however I do find the Skritt most interesting and humorous. I think they would be far more fun to play as an added race.

I’m with you on this one!!. The majority of the laughs I get from this game involve the Skritt" in some way. That “heart” quest in the “Asura” area, where you overload their little brains with too many big words, and make them pass out, had my sides hurting lol

Okay, so excluding undead is a good idea. Maybe just the 5 major racial antagonists? The ones that disappear in later zones? Bandits, Sons, Inquest, Nightmare Court, and Flame Legion.

And more challenge is good. I just think this is less challenge and more annoyance. If I want to go map complete a starting zone on my 80, I don’t want those guys hounding me for a week for doing it. It almost seems like it would punish players for returning. Even if the mobs in the later events in the chain scale to your level, I can no longer do all the starter zones in rapid succession. I have to wait a week. More challenge is fine, but not at the cost of freedom, and definitely not as a punishment for skill.

I’ll admit that. It could be quite annoying for some, but, I still like the idea, though lol. It doesn’t have to be exactly like that, either. Maybe just a “daily” event chain that happens once a week, for just that day. It could work if it’s done right, that’s all i’m saying lol.

That’s assuming “undead” are part of the event system. If they were left out, it would give MORE incentive to revisit lower level areas.

As far as the attacks go, It would give people another reason to seek out groups, and join a guild. It also adds a little more challenge to the game., which is something people complain about not having enough of.

Why hate RNG??..here’s one reason:

Player X: puts 800 items in the the mystic toilet, and does not receive their precursor.

Player Y: puts 4 items in, and get’s it.

not a good system..at all

I was thinking the other day, while annihilating a cave full of “bandits”:

“Man, it would be cool if, at some point, these bandits tried to seek their revenge”

That would make things pretty interesting. Especially if the made hidden “daily/weekly” event out of it. Let’s say Anet has a an event system implemented, for multiple mob types, that triggers after you do a certain number of things. An example would be, If you kill 50 bandits, their current leader puts a price on your head. Each day, throughout the continent, a group of bandits will attack you at random, trying to claim that “bounty”.

Once you’ve killed off a certain number of bandit groups, the “bandit leader” increases the bounty on your head, thus, giving the bandits more incentive to claim it. Over the course of the week, the bounty, and the difficulty of the bandits, increases. On the final day, the “bandit leader” decides to finish you off himself, and sends you a message, telling you to meet him at the bandit “HQ”.

Anet could make a little “mini dungeon” out of it, where you, and a group of guildies, fight your way through the bandit HQ, and finally kill the “bandit leader”. After that, not only is the bounty removed, but, it also turns any bandit into a neutral mob for 24hrs. (for you and your group)

Pretty sure PlanetSide2 is doing fabulously.

The best part of GW2 is the dodge mechanic. I can’t play any other MMO that doesn’t let me dodge or evade attacks coming at me — and I’m not talking about using LoS like in WoW. I wish every game got rid of “hit chance”, and just let you either dodge it or not.

If you like it that much, you should give TERA a try. They just went Free2Play.

It’s actually an action MMO (unlike GW2 which just added Dodge), where you can dodge everything once you’re good enough at it. All attacks are skill-shots and hitboxes are more relevant in combat.

I Tried TERA as well, combat was cool. But again going back to how you have to read quest logs, i lost my patients XD

You lost them ALL??…you, sir, are a TERRIBLE doctor >:(

Im sorry! I failed Med school, but i wasn’t going to let grade numbers judge my ability to be a doctor!

Im also a terrible speller if you didnt notice already :P

It’s cool, Zoidberg. None of them were related to ME, anyway
