Smoke Fields for Rangers

in Ranger

Posted by: Pwent.2639

Pwent.2639

I don’t see much use for a smoke field in a trap, it would only be used if something move over it and in that case go stealth would be too late anyway, if you are thinking in stealth stomp it wouldn’t work since traps isn’t activated by downed player.
Best thing I can imagine is combine with a bow and use the projectile finisher for blind.

A new skill like a mud terrain that apply blind and a smoke field would be nice, specially with a sword/wh set.

Make it the trap have a second skill appear once you set it allowing you to detonate it at will. Then do the same to healing spring and make it a trap also. :O That would be cool.

Andro did teach seven how to mesmer. Best mesmers i’ve seen by far on this game are Bamf Joe, Wafflez, Helseth, and supcutie. Helseth and Supcutue are tpvpers. Wafflez is retired. Bamf Joe still makes awesome outnumbered videos on youtube, you should check them out, (shatter mes).

As much as all names mentioned are hella skilled, I’d have to toss out two more:

  1. Flimpy – Considering I started as a pure Condi-mes, that man’s vids were a source of much inspiration
  2. Andromeda (forum name: Themanbat) – Formerly from our server, and one of the downright sickest 1vMany Phant-mesmers I’ve ever encountered.

Who knows, maybe (one of these days) someone’ll eventually mention me

Did Andro stream or record any videos? I heard Seven talk about him before.

don’t think andro did, but I’m pretty sure he taught Seven how to mesmer.

After fighting seven mirrors multiple times I would say he is overrated. Andromeda was great. Skigit was fantastic he was the first person to show me 1v5 was possible when I started the game. Obsession and I held inner bay for ages against a zerg so he has a spot. Last but not least Wafflez for showing me how to blink stomp when I started.

perma daze, confusions and damage that will eventually wear you down even if they play a survival build ,
also dissappearing and spawning clones all the time, real gods of space and clowns at the same time.

what is the theory behind this irritating class?

i think they are gamebreaking beyond limits and in need of big changes especially at their cc, they should be able to confuse you visually not having you perma stunned confused with stacks of bleeds .

sorry for my english

And lol confusion on perma stun is pointless even if they could manage it. Good luck fighting someone in 1v1 or 2v1 with a survival build on guard you will be mocked, out maneuvered, outdamaged and out played. Stick with your team/zerg and leave 1v1 for people with builds made for it, then wipe your tears (not an insult i assume you are focusing too kitten trying to tell the difference in-between the clone and the real one… hint it is the one with all the buffs and dodging) and learn how other classes work.

Your english is just fine to be honest.

just came here to say Mesmer is my main but I play across all classes and Engi Bunker is by far the most annoying thing youll ever play once you get better. If more people played engi in WVW and PVP it would be a true nightmare

Yep yep yep so much yep. The rare well played engi in wvw is by far the most frustrating thing possible. I play my mesmer way more and way better, but rarely get rage quits once i win a fight i “shouldnt have”. My engi on the otherhand i stopped playing because no one wanted to fight it, caused so many join party flame then shut games down before i even finish the opponents.

Im not saying its super powerful, just that it is by far the most annoying due to the fact that a lot of people feel like they cant do anything against it. Kind of like the OPs problem with mesmer (i assume this is due to the players not knowing the other professions fully including skill rotation possibilities traits and builds).

Personally the 2 classes that i feel the most confident completely destroying are engi and mesmer just for the fact that i have played so many builds on both and understand them rather deeply. A lot of what i found difficult to deal with when i started the game turned out to be super simple to counter play. Seriously how many people fall for magnet pull+prybar right off the bat, even though 5 min of practice and you will be able to dodge magnet every time as long as you have stamina.

Oh and OP mesmer is way worse at tossing out confusion than thief/warrior/engi it will be even worse post update.

Gs/Sw-T shatter trait questions.

in Mesmer

Pwent.2639

About a year ago i learned how to shatter Staff/Sw-P and got relatively good at it before swapping to a condi pistoleer build that took advantage of the glitch that gave it a 100% projectile finisher.

Getting back in game 1 year later with it being fixed i decided to shatter again. I tried Staff/sw-p but most people expected the burst and i ended up having to shatter on staff more often then not to catch them offguard.

1 day into i gave Gs/Sw-t a spin and wow it worked way better for solo roaming. I am running 95% zerker gear for fun (yes i know its not optimal, but killing unsuspecting medi guardians in 2.5 seconds is so much fun). I am just having a few problems deciding traits.

So here are the ones i cant chose between.

Shattered concentration Vs Cleansing Conflagration. I prefer the former because i find ruining some of the most common elites on some professions a blast, but i know the latter will help me survive if the fight drags out or turns slightly sour.

Illusionary Invigoration Vs Illusionary Elasticity. Illusionary elasticity makes your gs 2+4+dodge+mindwrack Crazy kitten and tossing your sword into groups just becomes that much better. Invigoration on the other hand recharges all you shatters :O thats great, but still a hard choice for me when i end a decent amount of fights without being touched.

Staff/sw-p was an easy choice for traits this set has some strong options.

I would love to see some of your views on this topic, it will put the constant unrest of not knowing which one i should take to sleep.

Sorry for all the text.

best stat worst stat

in Mesmer

Posted by: Pwent.2639

Pwent.2639

What is your opinion on mesmers most effective and least effective stat?

I would say precision is least important because I don’t feel mesmers are built around criticals at all.
And condition duration as most important as mesmers rely on stacking conditions

:O what lol. A condi mesmer without precision hits like a wet noodle, a large chunk of their damage comes for bleeds on clone crits. Shatter mesmers bank on mind wrack critting for epic damage, and a good 80% of mesmers have vigor on crit selected which doubles your dodge output.

Mesmers need defensive traits less than some other classes (i never feel forced to take my vit over 17k in any build) because a lot of their survival comes from evade/invuln/invis/teleports.

Mesmer scales terribly with healing power it is by far the worst trait for them. The only things that they have that work well with it is regeneration (and maybe that heal on shatter thing, i wouldnt know because imo it takes 80 trait points to be used properly).

Looks like other people beat me to the punch.

Just checked out the shatter heal trait and it scales terribad.

Rabid is the go to armor on condi mes for a reason.

Epic?? 20k rapid fire?? You make my day, pls play a ranger, it is epic when your pet can land a hit in a fight against a thief due to stealth.

Obviously a joke, that whole part of the post was sarcasm. Zerker longbow rangers are food for just about everything in 1v1. Thought the undodgeable kill shot gave away the tone of the section, i guess not though. And i do play ranger it is a super fun profession.

Feedback regarding Conditions

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Pwent.2639

Pwent.2639

Ah did not know that, still doesn’t make it worth using precision for on most classes.

Every other post you make is followed up by an “Ah did not know that” or someone explaining you were mistaken. Why do you keep posting about things you are unknowledgable about? As well, how do you know its value for most professions, after you previously admitted you do not even have experience with Most professions??

In my experience, it is a very very common sigil In WvW condi builds. it is also very much a reason to raise precisions, because it only has a 30% chance to proc on crit. It last 7s and is AoE. Would you like me to explain how much damage that is? Or how torment works sir?

Nope, I think vitality is the worst stat for most classes, doesn’t really make precision useful for most condition builds either way.

Odd, as vitality is known as the best stat to counter conditions. As they ignore toughness, vitality adds the ability to absorbe the damage. As well its absorption allows for greater use and value of condition removal.

And as a very wise man already posted

coglin won this thread.

Amazing how you get when I didn’t know one thing about a new sigil that still isn’t good enough to sacrifice using precision for on most builds and after the next patch all sigils will work like it anyways. The guy supporting you plays a condition build as well, how surprising! Also vitality offers no sustain so its a soft counter to everything for the first few seconds of a fight.

see, you just shot yourself in the face there. In every single engineer vid I ever posted, I have more power than condition damage, even with 25 stacks of corruption. I use mainly carrion, I play whats essencially an hybrid build, however bad some stuff might scale. I’ve tried full dire and full rabid and it was nowhere near as effective for me.

but you just took one look at it and said “conditions, pff” , like every other raging guy that joins my party whining that’s so cheesy I use dire and perplexity, neither of which it’s true.

apart from that I have 7 other classes all but one at level 80 and I roam either solo or in a small group with all of them. only on my necro do I play conditions and even so, rarely, because zerker necro is way more effective in a 5 man roaming team.

if you know what you are doing, conditions are easy to manage and avoid.

Ah the life of a tool kit p/p hgh engi. Omg dire is op…. Killed them with a 2.8k prybar with carrion gear.

A 3/4s or 1/2s cd on stealth attacks would allow a decent amount of counter play and teefs wouldnt be able to spam till they hit.

Oh and for all the mesmers out there i started roaming with sig of domination on my shatter build, it is epic for stunning d/p thieves when they black powder.

Otherwise the evade spam is kinda annoying, but @Burnfall you sound very ignorant the perma invis isnt a problem in most fights unless you are trying to 1 spam them with a ranged weapon and the damage is nothing special. Go whine about longbow skill 2 tracking and doing epic damage in zerker gear, Shatter mesmer being way OP, killshot being undodgeable death button, churning earth+lighting flash being too hard to predict (it is lols with portal though), 12k Gs mauls from invis (new sigil of int buff coming up GOGOGO valk maul rangers), and engi big ol bomb magnet jumpshot from stealth.

On power rangers in pvp i have found muddy terrain+krytan drakehound+stone spirit to do just fine vs most non s/x teefs.

Yes, some builds get countered by others. That doesnt mean that there is a complete lack of balance it just says play to your strengths. Or get better and use better builds (magi gear mesmer will never be viable does that make mesmer weak?).

And pretty sure @Burnfall OP wouldnt agree with what you said at all.

Because swiftness is so useful when standing still on a line. Cast it 1 foot in front of the target or yourself.

[Discuss] New Grandmaster Traits

in Mesmer

Posted by: Pwent.2639

Pwent.2639

I seriously cant believe no one has mentioned this yet. Imbued diversion+new dueling GM+masterful reflection. Basically, mesmers just became amazing in a zergs frontline and in havoc groups as well. With no ICD this could be almost permanent.

What if you get a 5+havoc group with full zerker just looking for massive zergs. Once you kill just one guy (easy with 5+ in full zerker) youd become this unstoppable, invulnerable, reflecting, massive dmg dealing ball of death. With only 5 people. (Hell, you could do it with one)

I did mention it :P and masterful reflection doesnt prot on any other distortion excluding f4 (hopefully they change this or just make it work for this trait).

You’re completely right, love. We’ve just come full circle to something that didn’t need changing to begin with, except now it’s in a much weaker spot and far more classes have access to our own confusion to boot. Nothing has been hit quite as hard as confusion over the course of the game (other than perhaps old Ele sustain) and yet the devs just can’t seem to stop handing it out like candy to everyone but Mesmers themselves.

Everything about confusion feels right ( except for the fact its really weak on mesmer). The effects and the way it damages are just so <3.

I really hope they nerf perplexity to the ground.

Pwent.2639

1v1 and 1vX mesmer is amazing. P/d thieves are a tough fight on my condi build and properly geared power warriors are my power builds weakness, but other than that i feel like a god in wvw. Its all about getting the right build together and learning how to play it and the builds your opponents will be using. When all else fails just use the terrain+blink to your advantage.

Raid builds and roaming builds are normally very different so make sure you have the proper one set up.

And Pyro didnt say you where a bad player he said bad builds and lack of experience can lead to losses in 1v1, which is incredibly true. And a good chunk of small fights is knowing the enemies build and skill rotations also. Dont get so but+hurt.

New Turret Grandmaster Trait

in Engineer

Posted by: Pwent.2639

Pwent.2639

its the coolest Sounding trait but it is highly impractical to begin with it breaks the whole tactical placement of turrets as you ll dump em ontop of each other to keep shield up

then theres the fact that you ll still be bombarded with aoes that dont really count as projectiles necro marks and well for example ele fire fields then theres the cone attacks wich are not projectiles either same goes for mesmer clones well you mesmers do have 2 projectile attacks tht summon clones so i guess it negates iberserker and iduelist

Honestly it is even more about the tactical placement and when you use the turret for shield, detonate or keep it up. Spamming them will be a bad idea unless all you want is the reflect. Yes things will get through but that doesnt change the fact that reflect is really good (it will reflect all of the condi pu projectiles and magic bullet when it comes to mesmer also).

Healing turret alone has better upkeep than feedback. It will be fun to use against p/d thieves.

Norn forms + MoC

So as many people know asurans can pop a 6 sec daze every 45 sec with MoC.

I was looking at other races for ranger and got to the norn elites :O.

Bear gives you a knockback on a 5 sec cd which can trigger Moc easy, and a tough to land launch on 15 sec.

Raven gives a 6 second daze on a 10 sec cd lol, and a knockback on 5 sec cd that can hit multiple targets.

Wolf gives fear on 10s cd and a knockdown that is almost impossible to land.

Yes you do lose your pet when in form and it kinda blows not having access to utilities, but that raven aoe daze :O it would be so much fun.

Btw does MoC still effect fear and knockdown?

I dunno, population charts would show classes are pretty evenly spread.

They have shown such things before though, which showed that engineers were one of the least played, if not the least played, profession. The particular chart I’m thinking of was released quite a while back though, I’m not sure where it’s sitting at currently (possibly in some old forum thread).

I’d say engineers are more common than they used to be though.

If you want to be unqiue in your build, that shouldn’t be hard though. Make a p/p build with full magi gear, put 14 points in all trait lines, and use A.E.D., toss mine, rocket turret, personal battering ram, and mortar. I guarantee you’ll be the only one.

^that is my interrupt build. Main thing is lay down temp curtain then wait for solid interrupt like ele uses rtl to initiate and pull, drop warden, sword leap, sword burst and daze mantra, swap and gs burst, and then finish with shatter. Doesnt always work out but the reflect on focus is super helpful and not many people expect the immobilize on interrupt in wvw.

That all being said PU is way easier to play wvw roaming and holds out better when outnumbered. Interrupt is more fun in 1v1 and 1v2 or if you have a roaming buddy.
