Well since I have basically only done spvp so far I will do wvw and pve until then. But that point when the next patch comes will decide if I seriously play this game anymore. Then I will look for the next game or hopefully blade and soul or elder scrolls online comes out in Q1
Agreed with everyone good posts. And yes this does go for so many other classes and things. Why do they force us to fight the computer? Classes can reapply condition faster then most can cure them. Why can a class choose to stand on the outskirts of a fight and press 1 or 2 buttons and kill people in battle? Thief’s evading indefinitely at ruins, I the balance in this game is in the gutter. Mesmer is just as bad as thief they are both crutches for bad players
I agree 100%. Here on the we see constant complaints and L2P comments. But people overlook the fact that none of this stuff had a place in this game in the first place? With all this insane damage you would think the average player have 50k health pool.
I find it funny as well, because if you kill the them they can explode and drop a ton of conditions on you, if you don’t kill them they stand there and auto dps you down.
why hasnt anyone said it
channeled abilitys track stealth
stupid mechanic, but it damages and tracks stealthed targets.
Do all classes have access to channel abilities? If not, then I can’t say it’s a very good counter as it means classes without channeling abilities can’t counter stealthed targets.
That’s just silly. Every class can’t have abilities to counter every other class. The only way to accomplish that is to homogenize the game to the point where there’s really only one class.
People seem to be so focused on wanting their class to be able to faceroll every other class in the game. That’s not how balance works. Some classes will be strong against your class. Other classes will be weak against it. Still other classes will be strong against the classes that are strong against you.
Maybe channeled skills aren’t prevalent enough or powerful enough to truly counter thieves? That’s a legitimate argument. But saying that “channeled skills aren’t a counter because [class x] doesn’t have any” is not.
Well techniquely stealth has no real counter. All these things mentioned are just makeshift counters we found ways to use. The fact remains that no class has a true counter to stealth, while some don’t even have accesss to these makeshift counters. So it’s completely legitimate IMO.
The only thing that will work is to give them cool downs like everyone else.
Does revealed count as the cooldown? Albeit it’s quite short.
Well reveal is a mechanic in use and you see how things are. I meant give each one of their abilities a cool down like every other profession.
The only thing that will work is to give them cool downs like everyone else.
Glass Cannon’s complaining about getting two shot by another Glass Cannon’s.
the fact that you took a 9k+ heart seeker shows you had zero defense.
/thread
But the truth in the matter is that even medium armor with 3100 armor in stats it would have still been around 6k.
A response I saw posted in another thread regarding the spvp dev team being only 2 people.
“Who do you believe? The guy who blurted out the information on accident or the one who came forth with the PR to cover it up?”
What a ridiculous claim.
The better question would be:
“What do you believe? The claim that’s 1000 times removed from the actual quote, taken painfully and deliberately out of context, repeated inaccurately in 823957 different forms, and now doesn’t bear any resemblance to the actual thing said or the explicit description of internal structure offered by a department employee?”
Well then lucky for me I read that post for myself and made my own judgment right?Have at thee!
This is actually a great group build also. The thing is, with his gear setup and build, he’s nearly unkillable. In our small 5-7 man groups, his entire job is running around turbo dunking or turbo rezzing allies, and body blocking shots. I can’t count how many times he’s rezzed someone important in the middle of 20 people while taking a ridiculous amount of hits.
I agree also through the constant cripples and what not It would definitely be a menace in group battle. But super elixir with kit refinement is currently much to valuable to pass up when it comes group fight in my opinion
But I do know the power that is elixir u as well. You can do some amazing things with it, I used it exclusively before they nerfed the pistol 1 to the point of no return. Great for escaping, combo field boons and conditions (blind spam
), stomping, damage boost, condition heal, the list goes on lol

Loved the post made me laugh and this does seem like a strong build. Only thing that immediately sticks out to me is it seems very 1v1ish but I will try it out.
IMO you would benefit so much more by dropping self regulating defense, medkit, and elixir b for and picking up kit refinement, elixir gun (for super elixir basically), and the healing turret. You would have a permanent light field (retaliation, regeneration) and much greater healing as well. You would lose 3 condition heals from elixir b and self regulating defense but you would gain 2 condition heals each on 10 sec cool down from super elixir.
You would also hit a little less harder but IMO the added survivability is well worth it. If you don’t like that I honestly would still drop self regulating defense for backpack regenerator. With the dolyak runes the its you have a constant regeneration ticking for 160. That alone can cancel out bleeds and what not and will do so much more for you depending how often you tend to stay in tool kit.
Whenever I feel like swapping up for healing, this is what i do for the most part, and I approve this. :>
When I play with a group I replace Elixir B with Elixir U. This allows me to turbo-rez allies or turbo-dunk enemies, and the fields are always great, too!
I’m still playing with runes, so far my favorites are Earth and Dolyak, but Forge and Mercy both might be something i’ll play with in the future. Thanks for the insight :>
Superior rune of the fighter is also something possibly to look at if you want to maintain some of your damage. Would basically net you 2 stacks of constant might through super elixir and more through your other healing skills
Rifle 0/10/30/30/0 how would you describe that build? Fight against it? Is it just another tank build?

I normally play after 11pm after work, eastern time USA. If you want we can form our own team and start playing
1v1 they are OK but when 6 people fight for a point and 1 is a mesmer it’s pretty much impossible to target him fast enough.
This would be the most annoying thing for me
I’m in eastern time USA normally on after work 11pm and after put me down I want in
While it’s true hundred blades can be avoided that’s not what the OP is upset about.
I’ve always thought the main reason the game was more enjoyable during the beta weekends was the fact that the developers had counter-play in the forefront of their minds when they were designing warriors and elementalists, and those were the most powerful/popular professions at the time.
Thieves and mesmers, which were finalized later in the process when ideas were getting stretched thin, time was running out, etc. do not provide as many opportunities for counter play. They have less visual tells in their animations, burst combos that are more difficult to avoid or interrupt, frequently used skills that do high burst damage while simultaneously being a gap closer or providing evasion/immunity, more frustrating mechanics like stealth and clone spam etc. All of which reduce the number of viable/interesting counters the opponent can employ.
Lack of thought provoking reactive play is a big problem in GW2, but I actually think Warrior for the most part is one of the better designed classes in that regard.
Indeed, this post basically sums up the balance issues in a nutshell.
The thief class is a crutch for bad players. The amount of skill it takes to play it is nothing compared to the amount of skill it takes to counter it.
Sadly, this has always been the case. And it’s always the kids playing the OP classes that think they are pro, and come to defend while not acknowledging the real issues at hand.

They really need to just give them cool downs…..all of these problems always arise from the broken mechanic
Not even in the least. The problems in underwater combat are solely a result of a too generous use:initiative ratio. Adjusting the either the length of the evade or the cost of the skill removes the ability to infinitely maintain the evasion. An underwater Thief with no remaining initiative is outright dead.
Initiative is a broken mechanic. As long as they have these 5 in 1 abilities that are spammable and do insane damage problems with thieves will always exist

This has been brought up before never seems to get much of a response. They basically sit there pressing the same button doing the same move, but yet they avoid like 80% of incoming damage while still dealing out damage
Mesmers are OP everyone you kill are not ‘bads’ kids that play OP classes like to belive its pure skill.
I’m facerolling to great victory on my mesmer, I actually have to try when I’m on my necro to do half as well.
I guess I could drink the coolaid and say man Im really skilled on a mesmer I beat everyone and everything mesmers are not OP im just that good at the class.
I’m gonna have to agree here. I played Mesmer for like the first month and its like driving with cruise control. Played over 300 games and never really found it that challenging its definitely much much easier and doesn’t take much effort to achieve success. I main engineer now and I love kit switching and what not
I might just be switching there then? Where did this consensus come from?
Quickness Stomp
Stability Stomp
Knockback
Knockdown
Stun
Daze
Damage the downed enemyProblem?
Too many counters..counters that problem.
Blink stomp
Aegis stomp
Blind stomp
Have a radeon 6870 sitting around collecting dust and a raid max 630ss power supply sitting around if your interested pm I use PayPal.
well…GW2 doesn’t heave the best graphics out there…but by far the best in any mmorpg
and since mmo’s tend to be very demanding on your system, because alot stuff happens graphic-wise in-game very randomly, thanks to other players (not to mention, more players online – more stress to the game’s server), put “mmo” and “awesome graphics” together for some nice PC-BBQmy GTX580 would probably catch fire if i wouldn’t limit the framerate
btw: most of my GTX’s growling is caused by a customized fan-speed
You should check out tera online. Graphics are MUCH better then guilds wars and even harder to run
Graphics are Def Not better, cheap use of the U3 engine if you ask me honestly. And Tera runs much better on my pc then gw2 does btw.Only thing is i havent played tera in months, horrible game.
Your opinion has been noted
That’s pretty insane
Lead the target
Depending on range, leading a moving target that does actually bother to not conveniently run in a straight line (read: everyone in pvp) is impossible.
I noticed you said depending on range, and range does mean everything
BUT
This is where you apply your own playstyle. i can hit any moving target I need to and it doesn’t matter how you are moving. With the way I play I just stay at the right distance and chase you down, you will eat every grenade I throw your way. And if you bother to chase me you will get it even worse. Just because you have the capability doesn’t mean you have to use them like a ranger
Got a vid showing how you do this to help others get better at it?
I actually wouldn’t mind doing this at all. I had plans of making videos in the future so I will s ee what I can do for you. It’s really interesting because I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone in pvp use them this way.
The best thing I can tell you is to try them out yourself. You might like one of them for whatever reason, but in my experience supply crate trumps the others.

I would also like to see the supported tested numbers. I found a nice medium between high and low armor that I like around 2500.
Blasting a player with grenades is imposible if he has a head over his shoulders and knows how to use it, of course, blasting a no-brainer is easy, just hit 1 like a dummy.
Grenades are pretty useless in real fight situations, and I’m talking about sPvP, in WvW have their utility, in PvE you can put on your rifle and the mob never is gonna reach you.
For me at least, grenades are pretty dead, yes, you do a lot of dmg with them, but hitting a dummy with the autoattack and posting the result to back it up, isn’t a way to prove youself.
Lead the target
Who cares the amount of skill it takes to make them even worth it is crazy
I laugh everytime i see someone say “grenades are only for stationary targets”
Now I may be completely wrong here, hence the topic so for give me in that sense. It seems now supply crate now channels before summoning. As far as I can Remember though, it didn’t have this before. Maybe I’m wrong so I await your input.
Engineer is by far one of the best best/strongest in pvp/pve hands down. This comes from my own experience and gameplay, and you must be very good to bring out their true potential. Ever imagine what it would be like if you could hit any moving target with grenades? I can, that alone turns the tables and is only the beginning.
I saw it happen before
I agreed, but looks At how much attention spvp gets in the first place. They technically will be giving you what you want with custom arenas. And since they have no plans currently outside of that, I don’t think we will see those for a long time if ever. Especially since custom arenas will cover 1v1 in their eyes
Jonathan sharp in another thread duels are not in development and they don’t have plans to implement those anytime soon (main justification was custom arenas 1v1 2v2 etc)
People act like every thief encounter is a 1v1 with all abilities up and you see each other coming. In spvp, the only problems i ever have with thief are always when I’m fighting someone else. Having a good 1v1 fight and your around 60-70% health and you just drop dead out of nowhere and there’s the thief and there’s little you could have done.
So basically from what mr sharp says we won’t see new spvp game modes anytime soon. Like someone said earlier, you could have 12 maps and they will all get boring fast with the same mode. New game modes would do so much more then leaderboards
Happened yesterday at forest
Since when does rallying take you back to full health
what you’re seeing is a rally.
it’s just like any other class thats down, if one of your teammates gets killed by the ele/thief’s teammates and the ele/thief has done enough dmg to them they’ll rally.
this has happened on my ele during mist form when my team mates have finished someone off. ;-)
I’m sorry, the part where we mentioned that the ele “rallied” back to full hp seemed to go over you head. In case you didn’t know, we don’t rally back to full health
I wasn’t aware you added the ability for mist form to let the elementalist come up from being downed to full health? This happened in a 1 vs 1 on a point and he killed me because of it. I downed him and had like 13k health, he was DOWN. I was stomping him and he mist formed and all of a sudden was on his feet dodging around and attacked me and killed me…
A thief did this to me 3 times during an spvp match as well. Nobody else around, he went from down state and me in mid stomp, to him standing up, and then killing me… This just happened at 10:07 PM EST.
Please fix ASAP this will break tournaments for sure.
Are you a Mesmer and you used a shatter to kill him? If so then guess what there is currently a bug where when your clones die it causes your enemies to rally.
Good stuff!! Thanks I will surely remember this.
The main issue is simply that some classes have a #2 skill that may interrupt a single stomp (if no stability is used), some classes have a #2 that may interrupt an entire group from stomping and then there are classes that have a #2 that will interrupt an entire group from stomping no matter what they do.
You can’t balance on the #3, because the classes that can’t reliably interrupt multiple stomps with #2 will rarely get to use it.
I don’t consider the downed state to be that important for overall balance, but in itself it is completely unbalanced from one class to the next because of this.
Best post yet, and as an engineer, your dead 99% of the time if you can’t interrupt a double stomp (anymore is obvious death)
