I think the general answer being given here is that wvw is pvp, but in this game it is not classified as such. That is apparent because there are many changes that affect only pvp and not wvw, along with different gears and such.

Unless something changed, the knock back radius was way too small for my taste. Not worth the slot I would pick bombs before I picked that.
I say the only answer is take away the initiative system and give them regular cool downs like everyone else. If they give out the right cool downs nerfs might not even be needed
I honestly don’t see why it would be so bad if thief were on the lower end of the damage spectrum amongst the classes. Then all of these abilities to me would seem perfectly warranted. The attacks would have to be timed right, using stealth and whatnot to whittle their foes away slowly. It would challenge all thief’s to play on a higher level, to think and plan ahead, strategize. Then I could actually see it as one of the harder classes to play and master. Wouldn’t be able to just run into a spvp group fight and spam away, kill a few people, then run away untouched and unseen.

There’s 2 main problem I have with theives…..one is that stealth has no counter. There are no anti stealth fields, conditions don’t break it, and if you can manage to hit them while stealthed it still doesn’t break. Yea you can still hit them but don’t give me that bs that’s shooting in the dark.
Then they have spammable abilities that do things such as evade all attacks, outrageous damage, conditions, combat finisher (WOW), gap closer/homing, all in one move. So they can spam attacks like that nonstop then disappear (if target isn’t already dead)…. The other classes do not receive things like these. I see thieves that go,to ruins and don’t even move, spamming 1 move evading all attacks, but yet still doling out hefty damage to people. Where did they see this able to fit when other classes don’t have abilities like these? If my engineer evaded backwards while throwing every grenade people would go insane!
If I blow my cool downs at the wrong time in a fight there are normally heavy repercussions. A thief has these abilities where if they mess up it doesn’t matter they can just spam it till they get it right or stealth and run away (or both). There are no penalties for blowing 2 heart seekers in a row

Are you doing this for spvp and tourneys? I’ve been looking for an organized group to practice with….
Noticed this as well. Thief spams the same ability underwater that evades all attacks, but get still does damage to their player. They can also do this on land with heartseeker and death blossom as stated above. Thief is broken from the ground up, and as long no cool down and spammable attacks exist like this it will always be. Can’t imagine what was going through devs heads when designing this mess.
Depends what you find as viable.

This is pretty unsettling. I have a 3D surround setup and 1 gtx 670 now and was planning to sli around Christmas. I get pretty good frames on one now but would another be worth it? I have a i5 2500k @ 4.3ghz
I switched up from an elixir/grenade build to a kit build as well. Now using medkit, elixir s for stun breaker, grenade kit, and elixir gun kit and loving it. These nerfs just force me to get stronger everytime
Oh and elixir s works fine for me, and honestly it worked for me before the update so at least that’s ok still

Cooldown on Elixir S is still 60 sec not 48 sec after u use it
Settle down now smalls, maybe English is your second language. My post clearly was in response to the cooldown on elixir s being 60 seconds still. But I said that FOR ME, yes for me, it is working just fine. I know it’s hard to believe that’s its not working right for anyone, but when I said I played pvp for 3 hours last night and it works fine for me I mean it. Takes your fires elsewhere troll

That’s the build I was using and I still don’t get it. That was my only non RNG main source of boons right there. Where do I look to next for boons? Run right into a necros well and use elixir C? EFF THAT. I’m way more mad about the elixir b nerf then the grenade kit nerf. I switched my build up and since short fuse is broken I got explosive powder and runes of divinity and they actually hit harder. To me the increased throw rate is only noticeable when throwing straight up, or close to you like at your feet so to me it was unwarranted. I now find myself much slower and without my main boons at crucial moments so I’m currently trying to find something else as viable, or switching classes.
The worst part about all of this is that they gave us absolutely nothing to make up for this nerf. They basically took all our boons and nerfed our grenades and bombs and much more. Fixed nothing, and left us with barely anymore options. The fact that they even nerfed runes of water/monk means that this nerf was meant for only this build. Which is truly sad…they took it to such a great extent….they nerfed it in every aspect they could

Throw speed or whatever would make up for the raw damage reduction. If there is no increase they basically forced forceful explosions on me, which will make up for a majority of the damage.

This truly bothers me because I was such a monster with grenades in pvp. They were my main source of damage and I could go in on moving targets all day long. Like stated in this thread not many use them in pvp, people say they are only for stationary targets. But they forget that some people are good enough to truly bring out their potential, something I noticed so few used in pvp, and took such great pride in. Agreed! I was such a big fan of smoke bomb + rocket boots. I definitely saw that elixir r nerf coming so I tried my best to stay away from it….too many people complaining about it….but yet a warrior can do it every time they go down (trained or not doesn’t matter).
They did so much damage to us in this update. Wow, bomb builds, grenade builds, alchemist builds (elixirs), insert relative nerfed build here, and here, and here, while still leaving everything else basically broken
I think I will be trying out elementalist….every good build I have ever had with engi has been nerfed…..tired of it

Its not the fact that they failed to fix huge fundamental gameplay flaws with the profession its the fact that they instead put there efforts into nerfing the most widely used skill.

My thread I made. But I’m not sure how viable grenades are until I test them. The one thing I do know is that they nerfed everything my build encompassed. So if I do continue to use grenades, I will have to have a completely new build centered around them

Yea…forgive us for wanting to take our skills to the next level and fight an intelligent sentient opponent. But a class that is far from overpowered and has been that way for along time is nerfed over and over. Until theres1 true viable build….then they nerf that?
This is a huge let down. The only build I could find that I really enjoyed and made me incredibly viable in pvp was nerfed to dust. No not only did they nerfed the grenades, but rune of the monk, rune of the water, AND elixir b boon duration nerf. All of which I used, it’s like they watched me pvp nonstop and delivered a nerf bat update just for me
I have the next 2 days off starting tomorrow. I was planning on leveling my engineer to 80 and trying to new pvp. Looks like I will be looking for a new main class.

Those will never be viable in my eyes, and I’m not a fan of artificial intelligence in pvp. And looking at the update changes…..there’s nothing in there that makes them anymore worth it in my eyes

I was very proud of this build, never had so much success in 2v1 and 3v1 and group battles. Petty tanky can take hit from anything, but yet could still drop a target if I need to. Main form of damage was my rifle rotation and grenades. I used elixir B for the buffs and the fury and might and 2 low CD condition heals for a total of 7. My runes basically were to synergize with elixir b to extend the durations a nice amount (mainly on fury). Could have dropped backpack regenerator and even get thet 20% boon duration trait. So they basically nerfed both my boon duration runes AND grenades AND elixir b. build isn’t broken but it was kind of centered around the use of elixir b. I will obviously adjust and make something even better but it really makes me mad because I don’t have many other options to look for. They didn’t really fix anything but took from us so much.
I actually am waiting till I get off work so I can check grenade damage. Because with the increased rate they are thrown the damage might actually equal out, plus you can get the 10% explosion dmg increase trait to get most of the dmg back. So I will wait to judge on that one, but the elixir b and runes really hurt. So technically I could get my complete build back but basically lose all the boons I was toting.
But my issue is that it took me quite a while to find a setup that was so viable for me. What do I have to look to next? They didn’t buff any of our lacking areas, nor did they fix any major bugs. Grenades, through my experience, and play style, is the only kit that allows me to constantly maintain competitive viability. I’m not saying I will ditch them, but it seems like everything the engineer gets is nerfed into oblivion.

They basically nerfed my whole grenadier build
I don’t really have a problem with thieves 1v1. But my main issue is that they have so many moves with “evade” tied to it. Therefore even if they are just mindlessly spamming the same ability, they are still evading dodging everything just because they’re attacking me. not to mention these same abilities have a combo finisher tied to it? That and thief needs to have and internal stealth cool down a long the lines of the other major and minor traits.
Don’t remember the names but I use 2×2 sets of runes that give 40% fury duration and 15% boon duration with elixir c normally. Sometimes I use 2x 20% fury duration, 2×2 15% boon duration (30%) with elixir c
Well unless you have any other suggestions for a good game with PVP?

i would say dragon nest above all, next would be tera (not saying the balance is there just saying the combat setup with how thwey make you aim and stuff)

It always amazed me that they intended for players to be able to hit anyone for over 5k damage. Considering how low player health is in comparison, it’s like they want the game to be played like it’s Quake, or something.
If the lowest health possible for a player in your game is about 15,000, you’d think you’d design the game so that even by stacking buffs, min-maxing a build and so on, the most damage a single combo in the game could ever do would be about half of that, and would take either coordination or a lot of time to set up. One person just running in from behind, stunning you and doing 20,000 damage in 2 seconds is just asinine.
Maybe it’s just my personal preference talking. I think combat in MMOs should be more about decision-making and long term performance, not just surprise ganking someone and then walking off bragging, “You should have reacted to my god mode mode faster, noob!”
This more then anything, that’s exactly what I thought this game would be. I was so surprised first time I fought my first thief or warrior. It’s one thing if the average health pool is 50,000 that would be a whole different ball game.
I always thought the engineer shield abilities had excessively long cool downs, one of the major reasons I always roll rifle.

good advice thank you. so would you recommend still getting the 120hz for any other type of game other than mmorpgs? i may still get 120hz just so if i choose to play another game type like a racing game i can still benefit. i mainly play mmos right now, but i also just started pc gaming this year so i will most likely try other genres in the near future.
oh yes also there were these korean ips 2560×1440 27 inch monitors that were overclockable to 120hz that sold for around $400 earlier this year on overclock.net. but i beleive there was only one round of those and they are very hard to get now.
basically i am about to do a 3d vision surround setup with gtx 670 4gb sli. but im not sure which monitors to choose. ive basically narrowed it down to these two

now i will tell you both will be big upgrades period as ive been using a 32’ toshiba 1080i lcd. so ive never used an ips panel, or a 120hz lcd either. i hear talk about how games with fast motions benefit a lot from 120hz monitors and what not. and i do a lot of pvp so this seems like it would help here. but then there is the ips panel with better colors and what not. i dont play fps shooters so im not sure if gw2 will benefit from a 120hz display or a 76hz one with better colors more. the 3d options dont mean as much as i will be happy with the 3d of either screens. but i dont want to get 3 120hz monitors just to find out gw2 doesnt seem to benefit from it much when i could be enjoying a better 2d picture. any help is appreciated thanks

Nice video and editing. One thing I was wondering about though. I noticed you seem to crit quite a bit (almost every hit), but I took a look at your build and it only has 11% crit + target the weak. What crit % were you using in the video?
