The Karka and Chak look alike because they share the same model frame. This cuts an enormous amount if work when they can reuse frameworks like this. Eye of Zhaitan and Mordrem Thrasher for example share the same frame.
The Karka were displaced by the DSD and its minions. The Chak are insectoids which feed on leyline energy. They appear uncorruptable, but that could be a biological factor, since we know they can filter out Zhaitans magic. The biological functions that allow them to feed on leyline energy, could be somehow immunising them against corruption. I am not seeing any connection between them and a distant, deep underwater dragon.
Halloween is arguably the best festival of the year in most mmos, easily rivallring Christmas.
Guild Wars 1&2 has always been one of the most Halloweens fun for me
Yeah I had read that. I’ll be surprised if it leads anywhere, although it will please a lot of people if it does
I think they said it takes 3-4 months to make a fractal, so I think 2 a year sounds plausible. I think another is due soon, since isn’t Chaos part of an ongoing side story involving fractals?
I very, very much doubt we will see a 5-man mode for raids. I think raids are time consuming enough to develop without the extra factor of re-scaling for a new mode.
I think it was added somewhere around the time of New LA when they overhauled the BL area. A useful little feature.
There are lots of new and old qol that get added and are easily overlooked. I just discovered the cultural armour vendor in WvW. Now that is prob new, but having all races armour on one npc is quite useful.
I assume this is your first 4th birthday?
If it is and you do get you backpack via help from above suggestions, then the next advice is to choose wisely. You get one choice per account only. There may be another choice for your fifth birthday, but any other toons hitting 4th year will not get another backpack as it stands right now.
It will save hassle if you know in advance to be sure of your choice
Does the “seeing” apply to account or character? As in does the character you are on have to finish those events or do all characters see it once one has done the event?
Perhaps it is juvenile more due to its maturity level. It may leave prank jokes around your home instance for npcs to unknowingly fall into…..
I agree, but i would expect it feel more invasive to have a dedicated channel interrupted and spammed, rather than how it is now?
An RP channel is open to abuse by non rpers though surely?
The frog has Charm Resistance. You don’t charm the frog, the frog charms YOU!
Tyria’s answer to Hypnotoad!
I can post it, but before I do I want to check: would it be against forum conduct to do so? I don’t want to be infringed or anything like that for “spreading rumors.”
It is against forum conduct and i includes discussing datamined content (something I’ve been caught out for forgetting myself).
Wow, people really carry all that stuff? :O Meanwhile, I only carry the salvage-o-matics and Terrace pass (in shared slots) + one stack of food and Exalted Keys on my main. Nothing else. I guess I’m weird…
No, you’re just not much of a hoarder as I am, lol.
I keep 1 extra armor/weapon/trinket set, and what I can’t fit into my maxed out shared slots: zepherite keys, tarnished keys, shovels, ogre whistles, elemental powders, experimental rifles, teleportation rifles, harpy feathers, ash legion spy kits, 3 kinds of food, karmic converter, ley-matter energy converter, quartz crystals, herta, potions of jackalope transformation, endless exalted tonic, and at least 5 stacks of salvage kits….
…you know, the bare minimum I need for my adventuring.
~EW
(just don’t ask what I keep in my shared slots, lol)
Pft that’s not hoarding…
Such amateurs…you actually have useful things in your bags…
No if a portal is active there, you have to wait fir it to despawn, otherwise if you jump towards where the water is even without activating your device, you end up in the fields of ruin lake. The goggles and rift for me were virtualky the same spot.
Id agree they should change it if we it wasnt cheating to get there in the first place, so a couple of mins despawn wait isnt a huge thing. The water is marked on the map, so once its gone, its fairly straightforward to aim at.
Is there any way to see which numbers you still need to do?
I’ve done all 13, but the device didn’t break, so clearly one or more didn’t count, but I’ve no idea which one(s).
You do all 13 plus the first one again
Thats cleared the stabilising bit up, thanks. Ive obviously always found it stabilised due to the sheer number of people there atm.
Im surprised no achievement ticked off for upgrading the device, just to give a sense of progressing down the right track, but otherwise i rather enjoyed the investigative process of this event for a change.
Yeah, im betting this like the Seis one where new portals appear in a few days.
Kinda enjoyed the investigative approach to this one, which surprised me since I found the earlier current events lacking due to poor communicationn game. Reminded me a little of the TSW investigation quests.
I love how location 9 is the Dry Top diving point…
Isn’t that 11?
Yes, sorry, my bad!
Ember is the right direction for the game to take. As is Bloodstone Fen. Anet were bombarded with feedback for more classic, explorable maps. They delivered it, whilst still delivering HoT style maps.
There is room for both types and the game absolutely needs both types for variety and to keep it healthy.
I love Ember Bay, I think it’s an excellent map. It just needs more events instead of the same ones on a short timer.
I love how location 9 is the Dry Top diving point…
yea, but from there you get thrown to Hoelbrak to for some reason
I didn’t?

There are rifts u use the device in the lake to close. currentl;y we’re failing to coordinate in our map tho, if that is what we are meant to being doing. I jumped through whilst channelling “number 2” and ended up in Hoelbrak where more groups were channelling a rift.

Looks like it is related to the anomalies based on map chat and all life round the lake appears to be dead
Apparently it is a commander gathering spot…
I have this issue anywhere the smoke or leyline is concentrated, Ember also has flowing lava falls which can affect it as well.
It’s something I’ve learned to live with and I can play happily on medium-high settings anyway. My old PC couldn’t handle Verdant Brink at all due to the smoke effects and I had to upgrade just to play.
As a non-raider, I’m not sure I agree with the need to add in story specific mode. The raids are specifically designed to be harder content and to make an alternative version takes something away from the originals and leaves less to aspire towards.
If it’s just the story players are concerned with, there are other, less resource intensive ways to achieve this and they’ve partly achieved this organically in the LS3 ep 1 content where you can talk to NPCs who basically sum up the story. They could also do a video recap showing the bosses being fought/killed with a narrative from an NPC you speak to.
If the raid stories were involved and intricate, I’d perhaps swing my opinion, but as I understand it, they are largely flavour enhancers and not even as in depth as dungeon stories are. To dedicate such time and resources to re-scale everything seems a lot of work for what appears to me, even as a non-raider, rather unnecessary.
Your explorable mode is interesting, but I feel would be better converted using the raid training area we have, where more options to set mechanics up could be added to help simulate certain scenarios. I am however open to having an explorable, but empty raid area just to have a look around or re-using the areas in future LS episodes for normal content if appropriate (that would prob need to be factored in the initial design though).
Tequatl and Wurm at least took the community time to figure out and nail down. Sure, Tequatl became straightforward content in the end, but at least there was a period of figuring out time. I hope we see more of that.
Apples and oranges. Those open world bosses just take longer for two reasons: first, they are time-gated and a failed attempt results in a long waiting period. Second, the proportion of braindead and useless players naturally is higher in open world content, resulting in higher rates of failure, which closes the circle.
Not entirely correct. Since it was fully coordinated and dedicated guilds/maps that figured it out, a lot was down to the scale of the coordination and the new mechanics that took time to adjust to, not the inability of players. Although I agree the time gate will have been more of a factor than I originally took into account.
Regardless, I’d still still like to see a couple more of these “figuring out” open world map bosses.
Pretty much goes for any game ever. Players figure out how to ‘game’ stuff more quickly than devs can release new stuff. About the only time that doesn’t happen is when there are artificial barriers imposed.
Aye. This happened recently in Lotro. The devs didn’t want to add anymore raids for a variety of reasons, but after years of feedback, they finally added a new one recently.
It was finished by multiple guilds the same evening.

The last word was it wasn’t being worked upon. That was earlier this year.
It’s a huge piece of work to convert it from the form it was in to the form it needs to be in now (ie the story journal) so with LS3 and expansion 2 being made, I doubt they have spare resources for it. And it can’t be brought back in the original form for many reasons, include it not making any sense in the open world and the code probably being broken if they just revived it as it was due to all the subsequent changes to the game.
Yes it absolutely needs to be in the game – the video recap doesn’t even come close to covering the events of that story, but I’ve got to the point of believing we will never see it.
Whoa, what? Salvage all? Haven’t seen that yet.
Map rewards are excellent, though I’m a bt confused as to what triggers them.
Right click your salvage kit for the option.
Map rewards rotate through a list you can see if you look at the overview map for each zone. It rotates through a common reward (usually a mat like claws, venom, bones, blood, fangs, totems) and uncommon rewards (the rest on that list). Generally you get a reward every 2 events
I think the collections are probably one of the biggest and most fun additions to the game over the last 2 years. They’ve added an extra sense of purpose which the game at times lacked. There have been some awesome ones too like the LA karka hunt, Chuka/Champawat Tiger hunts and kitten raising and some of the lore based ones like in Tarir.
It’s a shame the legendary journey ones are no more since they were improving the experience greatly.
Another great addition within the last year (maybe more I forget) is map rewards. That has really helped bring more relevance to the core zones again, which is never a bad thing.
And honorary mention to gliding which of course is awesome and of course “salvage all”
No date is set. My guess is 2 weeks tomorrow.
You are missing some though. The Glints Lair boss for starters. I’m tempted to name this as the worst instance boss, simply because despite having excellent mechanics, those mechanics often trip over themselves a bit and it loses its tightness. However, it’s excellent mechanics also make it a contender for for best.
There are also 2 Shadow of the Dragon fights – which are different to each other. And I see no reason why Vinewrath shouldn’t count if we are counting open world ones in LS3. Also that Asuran Inquest guy we fight as Caithe is a boss.
LS1 has Marionette, Toxic Hybrid, the LA Watchwork Knight things, Mai Trin and Molten Bosses. Don’t forget we have Scarlet twice as well – Queen’s Jubilee and Battle for LA
I think I’ll name the LS3 open world ones though as the worst, simply because except Justiciar Hablion and Unbound, they aren’t on par as bosses
- Molten Dominator is way too quick and easy
- Jade Pyro has too much HP and doesn’t use the mechanics enough to counter that
- Unbound is just a zergfest. It could easily use the green circles as a greater factor
- The Jades are a chain of fights identical to each other. They needed variation in mechanics.
- The White Mantle ones are just normal champs. They’re fine, just not really bosses.
- Bloodstone Elemental is generally in a good place as is Hablion.
Best goes to Marionette hands down. Perfectly balanced between success and failure and great fun. Scarlet is a very close second.

I reckon itll start in about 2 weeks. They are already getting together the Community based stuff
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/events/Let-Us-Know-About-Your-Halloween-Events
This is the perfect of example of what I would NOT like to see come to GW2.
Totally agree. There’s a lot of lore/immersion breaking items thrown into the game for the sake of making money as it is, but this would be a big no from me.
And yes, I’d remove your advertisement quickly…
You have to repeatedly tap the bar. I’m sure most find just holding the space-bar is sufficient. I just happen to be a ‘tapper’, lol.
And yes, that last stop on the Circus route will just land you in a pitch-black cave. But, a great place to glide from. =)
I started as a tapper, but I’m definitely more of a holder these days. Life has taught me holding gets you further than tapping…
Whilst rising, if you hold spacebar it will open at the apex. Or just hit glide once you have ascended as high as it can launch you.
(I just tested to make sure and it works)
We could just ask Marjory or Kasmeer. They appeared to recognise the entity passing on the egg. Whoever it was handed the egg down from height and I remember Gleam being speculated at the time on the forums.
Perhaps there are multiple Glint offspring set up in hidden locations like Tarir, to absorb the excess magic when the Dragons are defeated and perhaps we will discover another location in the Shiverpeaks or in the Crystal Desert. Multiple Dragons absorbing magic would seem a better “failsafe” than one lone baby “Super Dragon” absorbing so much.

See pic. They come in pairs – the foreground is the entrance one, the background one is the landing point coming in from another area. Or possibly what Cedo says below. Regardless, this at least shows what they look like.

One negative effect that comes to mind is that AB is so lucrative, that other content doesnt look rewarding anymore and leads to a congested population spread, which isnt very healthy for the game in general.
This is probably the biggest concern for me. I think Tangled Depths/Gerent has particularly suffered because of it. It’s also concentrating turnout at the boss time as well rather than helping Auric map population in a wider context.
Rata Sum isn’t too far from the RoF, so they could have sailed from the docks, especially now the Risen threat in the nearby seas is all but gone
It’s tied to the same reason rare runes are virtually at vendor price,
The bulk of rare runes is priced at 4 times the vendor value of 30c or higher.
Are you sure? Dont think ive ever vendored a rare rune at under 1 silver and I vendor them all unless i run out of bag space
Playable Ooze for the win.
Corrected that for you
Didn’t they say they were tied to future content (possibly the next raid wing) hence why they were still ongoing? I could have missed further comms mind you
If you already have the 100%, you will still need to do them again just to tick them off as permanent. Is that me reading the final point correctly?
The issue this comes down to though is that the content associated with the majority of those achievements is gone and cannot be restored. Even if LW1 somehow comes back, it will be with new AP which is more correctly aligned with the new format.
I don’t dispute everyone should have access to the same amount of AP, just like everyone should have access to the content, but that ship sailed 4 years ago when they started shipping temporary content against so much feedback to not do it.
For them to make separate leaderboards or separate out the achievements etc is just dev time spent elsewhere. The leaderboards were never a popular idea based on the feedback at the time and if they were, we’d have other pve leaderboards, with the adventures ones you see when completing them actually meaning something. They are unlikely to put time into separating these things when the leaderboards are so low down in the overall priority of things.
MMO’s can never be completed 100%, so it really is chalking it up to being realistic about how things are based on decisions in the past that can’t be changed.
