Shows how long it has been since I last played. I had completely forgotten city – city waypointing…..
I still think it’s ridiculous that gw2 only has 1/3 of it’s predecessor’s world. It’s like having a sequel to wow that only has access to Kalimdor and nothing else.
In a way I agree, but lets not overlook the fact that the maps have vastly more depth to them than the GW1 maps, many of which were just linking maps for stretching the story out with travelling.
One of the things that made GW1 bigger (apart from the obvious 2 extra continents) was the travelling of the maps. Whilst the waypoint system is vastly superior for how GW2 is set up and for the way modern audiences play, I do miss the sense of journeying across the World. Travelling across the Shiverpeaks from Ascalon felt like a genuine trek and journey. It’s one of the things I miss a lot.
It is going to be rough on any one running burn as there main damage.
Hoping for a mastery or something. They can’t realistically proceed against Destroyers w/o solving the burning dps issue.
Trailer does look good. Can’t wait for next week. Bloodstone was a very cool map, but doesn’t really have much staying power.
They didn’t in GW1, you had to change your skills as they where immune to fire damage.
The flexibility of the gw1 skill system allowed for. Here it would severely hamper many eles and make Berserkers next to useless in pve. They couldnt get away with it here if we are taking on destroyers for a sustained period.
You say that like there are.no other options open to those classes, Ele have Water air and earth, warriors can focus on physical damage over condition damage. So I don’t see why they need to do anything.
But you are taking away an entire attunement (ele) and an entire elite spec (Berserker), and it for the most part, is a deduction. In GW1, not only did you have a range of viable options to choose from, you could also choose from a secondary prof which gave all sorts of other options. GW2 does not work like that so you can’t adapt as easily.
Right now, an ele can choose fire, water, air and earth. Most ele’s will rotate through through those attunements depending on the situation at hand. If Destroyers are immune to burning with no way of overcoming that with in game mechanics, all that happens is the ele essentially is only rotating through 3 attunements, since the fire attunement is largely useless without the burning condition to drive most of the dps.

Looking at the trailer, the islands are prime to erupt from all the excess magic. We have destroyers, elementals, Karka, Mursaat minions. Looks like the epicentre for something big.
Bigger than Rytlock and Marjory’s baby!
Wow it’s an actual trailer, not a recap disguised as a trailer this time. I’m impressed.
Lots of interesting stuff. I saw Karka too!
Whilst i’d like to hope you are right, I doubt we will ever see Cantha. I think Elona is a better chance, but also very much an outside one.
Putting aside the known issues with having Cantha in game from a cultural standpoint, the way GW2 is designed is to keep players together. Adding a whole continent is splitting the playerbase in a way which will be detrimental to the core areas and HoT especially, as it currently stands. Work would have to be done to re-design the metas and mob difficulties to be favourable for small groups and that is not small task.
In terms of a third expansion, there are other contenders which are ahead of Cantha from a logical perspective. The primary one being the Far Shiverpeaks. The Crystal Desert is also likely a higher priority.
If, and it is a huge if, we go to Cantha, it will almost certainly be a long way down the line when we have fully exhausted Tyria and the Dragon story.
Having said that, a return to Cantha would be awesome, just to see Kaineng City under the GW2 engine, especially now we have gliding
Same for me (using chrome)
here’s a dev reply from last year about dx9, bad optimization etc.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3ajnso/bad_optimalization_in_gw2/csdnn3nalso 6 months ago someone asked about updating things to dx12 on the AMA
Jon Olson said “There are currently no plans.”as to what’s taking so long…. well it could be because they aren’t actually working on anything to do with this, and have never promised to do so, and have no plans to at the moment.
So Anet knows there’s a problem with their game, and won’t address it? Alright, well guess i’ll have to intentionally not purchase any expansions or gems.
That is not what they said at all. I would suggest reading that link, since it does explain why moving beyond DX9 wont gain much benefit overall.
The devs are half way to being kittened. You expect me to read through all of what some Anet member said? The game is CPU bound. There are plenty of other games that show fps can be better.
They know about their game than we do, so yes I would expect anyone to read their explanations of a code and engine they work on every day before levelling any criticisms, in order for their opinion to be taken seriously.

It wasn’t a beta specific event since I wasn’t at the beta and I remember the event
Only other solution is to stream it via twitch or something so someone can assist on the directions
We do not know if the Ring of Fire Islands are yet connected to Primordus. Our reason for going there may not be directly linked to the Dragon. I am certainly not expecting to see him there and so soon either. The fact that Primordus fell to rest in the Central Transfer Chamber – a huge distance away – suggests the islands are not a natural abode, especially when the Dragon is capable of turning much of the Underground to such an environment.
There are also other volcanic region in Tyria.
So yes you might be right, or equally this might be connected differently. Right now, we have no better idea than we did before LS3 began.
Correct me if I am wrong (I prob am so fair plays if so), but Mordremoth didn’t really corrupt in the same way Zhaitan, Kralk or Jormag does. The Sylvari were technically already minions of his and the other mordrem were created from templates of corpses, although I suppose using Logan and Zojja would prob count as enslaving for use as a template.
I suppose it is possible Primordus could turn out to be using other beings as template -eg Destroyer Troll and Harpy. Maybe the Great Dwarf Rite was an ancient protection against being used as a template in corruption as well as some immunity from the damage beings of fire could inflict.
A great choice to make by the way, it is an awesome bow.
I also queried about the tiger cubs – basically you keep the book forever to be able summon any cub and visit them at their den.
Apart from the mat sinks, the whole set of collections and the story behind them was absolutely fantastic to play through.
I noticed that LS3 part 2 will be end of Taimi’s mission. And She will find Primordus’s weakness. So we will see more Rata Novus and Ring of Fire will be culmination of everything what Taimi did.
Where was this announced? I have seen/read nothing so far that indicates the end of Taimi’s “mission” (not that she has a specific mission, she is currently researching all the Dragons and their energy in what has become her lab).
Do you have a linkable source that states this?
I suspect it is something like the Jormag collection which needs either a special item or another exclusive boss skin drop, from either Molten Dominator or (hopefully) a revamped Megadestroyer.
By doing it this way, I suspect they want to stagger how many players get it straight away by using RNG.
If it is any consolation, TSW did a similar thing with an item drop and staggered when the final parts and recipe were to be released. That was 2 years ago and there still is no sign of the final part(s)..
In the grand scheme of things, I can wait 2 more weeks for ???
I do agree wholeheartedly with comments about the low ap. That’s a trend which I hope they reverse. Goals need to be realistic to kake them fun. AP goals are becoming less and less realistic for no logical reason.
Hijacking this thread to ask a quick question;
Because of reasons, I was unable to play when Seis was in Lornar’s Pass (location 3) and I seem to be unable to travel there without losing the tracker device. Is there any way to complete previous locations or is this achievement/activity useless to me now?
Thanks
You can still complete the previous locations, the only difference is that Seis has left a different NPC to interact with instead of her. All that loses you is some flavour text.
Don,t worry, if we can light up the megadestroyer like an australian forest, lesser destroyers are gonna be burnt to a crisp.
Kinda strage that destroyers in gw2 aren’t immune to burningBut most of them are. The Megadestroyer isn’t, but the regular destroyers you find around Mount Maelstrom are. It makes me sad as a dragonhunter seeing “Immune, Immune, Immune, Immune” popping up as I fight them.
If we do end up with a Primordus themed expansion, I hope they change this as it would be obnoxious to have so many enemies immune to a condition like that.
It could be a mastery to make our flame “divine” or something

They already have one
From a human, Norn, Charr or Sylvari point of view there was no cataclysmic event. To the Asura who were displaced and all the other races/creatures once living deep underground, they might regard that time as cataclysmic.
Humans lost their capital city, Norn lost their homelands (and several spirits of the wild) and Charr had the brand. How are those not cataclysmic events?
I was referring to the post above specifically about Primordus. Apologies – should have quoted the post for better context. I have edited that post for clarity

That could also apply to the DSD. We know very little about it and its rising/activity, but the effect on the Quaggan, Krait and Largos could be considered cataclysmic to them, even if the impact to us is virtually nothing.

Noticed over the holiday weekend that many of the world boss events, and Octovine were seemingly unbeatable due to lack of people playing. What’s up with the current dip in players online? Would have thought more folks would have played with the long weekend.
I haven’t really PvE since game launch…
Now I’m doing map completion for a Legendary and wow, the maps sure are empty.
I remember running through map completion the first time, before megaservers, there was always atleast 2-8 people in sight at all points of the day, always little groups running past you screaming odd things, now I’m lucky to see one person while completing a map.
It clearly varies from person to person then. I had to do 4 maps for completion today and all 4 I always had a few ppl running around nearby. One map had constant chatter in map as well. Maybe it is time of day related or EU/NA, but I haven’t seen an empty map for a long time during the times I play in core maps.
But, as I said, Legion will have had an impact this month – especially seeing as it has taken a lot of GW2 concept in its pre-expac events and in the expac itself. I’ve lost most of my guild temporarily to WoW until the newness of that wears off.
Some ofc are delusioned by the game a little with its inconsistent direction and messy current events, but that kind of attrition happens in all MMO’s.
Don’t worry, he will be dangerous for ele’s at least.
Destroyers are immune to burning
Has the player base not voiced enough that they want to go to the Crystal desert? .
Not exactly. There is a lot of interest in the Crystal Desert sure, but there’s huge interest in Jormag and Primordus as well – what with revisiting EOTN locations and the potential of meeting up with the dwarves. Plus I’ve seen a lot of ppl get excited about facing off against the DSD.
Whatever Dragon they picked would have had players voice that they wanted a different one. Primordus makes just as much sense, if not more since he is arguably the threat closest and most widespread.
Having said that, there is little evidence to say we are going to Ember to face off against the Primordus threat at this stage. Ember Bay is Mursaat territory last we knew and that puts Lazarus at the forefront.
Today I noticed an article mentioning the new episode for Living World EP3 will release on September 20th and will take place on the Ring of Fire Map.
Source: PAX West 2016 – http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/473/feature/11142/Episode-2-Drops-September-20th-Takes-Us-Back-to-the-Ring-of-Fire.html
Great news if you ask me!!! Any additional info or trailers from the forum moderators?
The Living World subforum has all the threads on this since the article yesterday. Any up-to-date info will be in there
For my understanding Primordus has never appeared before (correct me if I’m wrong so I can learn) Soooo we don’t even know if he is actually evil.
If he is the most powerful of the current active dragons, yet he decided to remain underground all this years, maybe he is trying to maintain the balance we are constantly destroying. Maybe we are harming the world, maybe we are the bad guys.
All the Dragons have appeared before in previous cycles. Primordus is probably the most well known if anything since it remains the only Dragon known about from the previous rise, due to his minions’ direct battle with the Dwarves. He has been underground all these years since that is his “domain”. He was encountered there in GW1 and that was where he went to rest thousands of years ago.
In GW1 it’s minions sought to destroy the World and awaken their master. I don’t think Primordus has good intentions in as far as the rest of the World is concerned.
Whether he is the most powerful is up for debate. Certainly he has been awake for longer so potentially has absorbed more magic.
Interestingly enough, unless the absorption of magic has radically increased his size, Primordus is a relatively small Elder Dragon based on his appearance in GW1.
u haven’t said when u last played
The title says when they last played
Thanks for your reply.
I duo with my son. Is there still a lot to do for a duo?
We use to love world bosses and random LFG for dungeons.
That still a thing?
Duo works well in HoT if you get the expac. Plenty of content which is tuned for small groups or soloists who want more of a challenge than core Tyria. Plenty of big bosses in there too.
WvW has been revamped, with server merges for more populated matches, a new borderland rotated into the mix and a vastly improved reward system using the same reward tracks as PvP uses.
Although dungeons are largely a thing of the past now (they did improve rewards at least), fractals and raids are where the main instanced action is and they’ve had a lot of work and improvements added in.
On those 2 merits alone it sounds like it world be worth it for you
Luckily OfficialMEight answered my question on what to do. (Twitch streamer.) Daily fractal completion gives you chests that could possibly include ascended gear. That’s enough to motivate me to jump on gw2 every day for at least a little bit.
Other ways include;
- Crafting
- Tequatl (probably one of the better chances tbh and you can use the forge to change the stats)
- Triple Headed Wurm
- Achievements/Collections.
- WvW rank up chests
- Fractal tokens for jewellery
- One of the Guild Hall Initiative NPCs in LA
I lost an entire month worth of progress because of laurels. I bought two ascended items with the same name because I didn´t know that you can´t equip the same ascended item twice. Cost me 40 laurels. Contacted support to undo this mistake, but haven´t gotten an answer in days.
Stuff like this is one of the reasons why I´m taking a long break from GW2 again to play the other MMO that just released an expansion.
If you haven’t received an answer after 3 days post here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/GW2-Tickets-for-Review-3-days-older-2
Also check your spam folder since replies from Support often go in their automatically.
Surely if it was Primordus we have followed from the wp near where the central transfer chamber is, then Taimi could just confirm that remotely. If her map or sensors are strong enough to detect him being active ftom that distance, we could simp,y ask her if that is the dragon moving.
It could be a very large lieutenant. Maybe this Molten Dominator, although that could easily be a Mursaat defence creature on the island. Could the remaining Dwarves have created something bustling with magic that is displacing? I dont think it is Lazarus, since it doesnt make sense to head across the map and then back again in such a short period of time.
What is a potential shame is that any loose ends from HoT appear to have been fully dropped now.
Before megaservers, someone used to do hide and seek based on a riddle in LA. First one to find the player got 1g.
Now 1g isn’t very much anymore at all, but it tempted a lot of ppl back then because it was less suspicious. And it became a regular thing.
A major MMO released an expac. It will casue a temp dip in ppl this month
As far as I know, we aren’t sure what we are following to the Ring of Fire – in some ways it doesn’t make sense that we would be following Primordus from the Central Transfer Chamber, since we know he moved away from there a long time ago.
The Ring of Fire is also as Mursaat Stronghold and we know the new map will have the Fortress as a key landmark. We could be following up on a thread involving Lazarus and this Molten Dominator could be a Mursaat minion/creation.
Or Primordus or a significant army of his is located under the volcanic ring and we are going there as our first port to take him down.
At this time, no one is right or wrong
Yeah, try with a smaller amount. 90 or more gold will scream “scam” to most people and they will ignore or avoid.
Heart quests -.- I hope that’s wrong… I guess we’ll find out. At first I thought we would be brought in the direction of southsun after the 3rd map was revealed as it would be close to where Mordremoth died (=magic flowing out). Ring of Fire islands makes sense and it’s pretty cool they are actually releasing maps fairly regularly now (if this is true ofc).
It’s possible that these hearts are very different from Core Tyria and are more an evolution of them and adventures as a test for the next expac. I’m no longer a fan of Hearts, but that’s in their current form. The repeatable nature at least makes them more interesting already.
Ah right. Sooner than I expected – good news indeed.
Although it does seem that tying up all those HoT loose ends and Mallyck etc is not going to happen now.
Given that we now know the next map is a return to the Ring of Fire.
How do we “know” this? I thought this was speculation?
I was really surprised when my character said it must be Primordus because I was already thinking the same thing.
We already know the dragons function as sources of magic – back in GW1 we discovered that the asura were inadvertently using Primodus, who was asleep at the time, to power their gate network.
And I can’t think of another big source of magic that could be moving around underground. Plus tracking whatever this is apparently ties into how Seis made a destroyer scythe, which should be related to the destroyers.
Precisely what I thought. However, we are tracking movements in magic, so why would Primordus have gone all the way back to the Central Transfer Chamber only to go on the move again. That is a long way.
And when Taimi detected Primordus, could she have detected it all the way under the Shiverpeaks on her maps/sensors? If so, surely she can detect the other Dragons from so far away.
So I’m wondering if it is actually the Dragon, or something related to him. A new type of Lieutenant that Primordus has summoned or is calling to. Or maybe something linked to the last of the Dwarves. Perhaps Lazarus found a way to get across the map quickly and is tracking Primordus underground.
Or I tried to reply and didn’t have 15 characters.
You don’t need 15 characters. Just spam spacebar to fill in your post
Why do we always have to have an Asian guy with us in the story? We finally get rid of Marshal Trahearne and now we get Canach. Before Canach it was Marjory Delaqua.
No mater what happens in the story, there is always a token Asian person with you.
Not trying to come off racist but that is exactly what Anet is doing forcing us to always have this Asian NPC with you.Where is Asia located in Tyria?
~EW
Why did you quote me w/o adding any response? Did you misunderstand my question to you?
Let me rephrase what I said for clarity: There is no one who’s Asian in Tyria, because Asia does not exist in Tyria. You are projecting your own perceptions/perspectives of RL onto a fictional world.
~EW
If someone re-quotes w/o reply it usually indicates they are in agreement with what was quoted
I remember something to do with the ice elementals as well, but always put it down to my imagination putting something in my head that didn’t exist. Would be interested if you find out what this event was if it existed.
According to the HoT website, there are no official retailers for the game in Japan. Not buying through an approved retailer is risky for your account.
Having said that, I would contact Support. They can give you the definitive answer – the forums may give out retail advice which whilst good intentioned, end up leading you to a site which will cause you issues down the line.
Just did the instance again. The OP is wrong as the veteran boss does not reset; only the regular wolves do. Pulling the boss to the door doesn’t cause it to reset its HP either. Consumables still work as I confirmed fire elemental powders and pet whistles. I don’t think any type of weapons would work as experimental rifle was doing damage but the boss’ HP wasn’t moving. So I have no idea what the OP was seeing.
It doesn’t usually reset, but it can do it if you die and don’t get back into combat quick enough. I nearly lost it to a reset 20mins into the fight and just managed to salvage it.
Otherwise, you can fight it and the adds in the doorway as you say
They are mini versions of the leyline anomalies appearing as event in Tyria.
As to why they are appearing and as to whether they are a character driven hallucination brought on by the bloodstone effects is as of yet unexplained.
I’m sure it will all connect together by the end of LS3
I dragged the boss to the door and chipped away at it, making sure I rezzed quick enough to hit the boss so he didn’t reset. Took about 30 minutes and a hundred bunny suicides
And HoT Story Act 4 has an amulet you can get which “I think” you can choose viper stats from.
There are no other ways unless more options are added as LS3 progresses
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mordrem_Loop but Bloodstone Fen is probably less annoying.
Def less annoying, but OP asked for other options and by that link, Act 4 is another option.
