Lore-wise, what would surprise you the most?

Conversely I’d be highly surprised (and extremely disappointed) if the Wizard’ Tower became explorable. Some things are best left as mysteries and to the imagination. Good fantasy should always have things like this.

Nothing they could do to the Wizard’s Tower could ever live up to the individual imagination and expectations which have accumulated over the last decade. The best thing (jn my opinion) is for it to be left as a permanent mystery hanging in the sky.

Correct me if I'm wrong but...

Vinewrath is almost identical to marionette. We also have Tarir and Gerent which are also in the same vein and are evolutions of the design Marionette laid down.

Then we have Mouth of Mordremoth and everything preceding it. That is far bigger than even Battle for LA and Tower of Nightmares in scale.

The seasons are a lot more instanced based since that was based overwhelmingly the feedback from the community. HoT brought back some of the more epic elements from LS1.

Whats the future look like?

All the Dragons should now be awake. Mordremoth was the final one the awaken.

I’m torn on this whole “Super Dragon” business. It is far too cheesy for my liking.

We have 4 Dragons left which should be providing a significant threat for a long time. We’ve already (sadly) killed off two rather too quickly and easily considering these are Ancient, super powerful beings who have survived many Millennia. HoT pushed away huge swathes of lore and story it could have explored to the detriment of the game. I hope the next stories will be much more in depth and detailed and really get into the building and chronicling of the lore.

Worst case scenario and we do actually kill off the Dragons too soon, we still have other threats from GW1 such as Lazarus, Palawa Joke and potentially whatever is happening over in Cantha. Plus who knows what else could absorb Dragon energy. I think the potential mileage for the material they have is great if they use it right.

I don’t personally think a GW3 will be a thing or certainly not in the next 10-15 years.

Agreed. But I am not sure if they still have the rights composed by jeremy to guild wars 1.
Also they could use some guild wars 1 music in a lot of other areas in the core tyria.
Still I don’t see that happening :/ .

As someone else pointed out, they use a lot of GW1 music in Core Tyria and some of it even plays in the Guild Hall since HoT. Fairly certain all Soule’s music composed for GW1 and the core game music he did for GW2 is all fully usable across the entire franchise.

[Discussion] Your Main Issues With The Game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

My main issues with the game revolve around the grind and the burgeoning gap between dev team and playerbase due to poor communication issues.

When a festival like Halloween revolves around either heavy grind or draining the economy, what was once the original focus of GW2 seems almost lost. ANet are quite capable of producing fun, engaging content for festivals and yet it feels like we have less each year with only monstrous candy corn sinks to make up for it. I am not wholly opposed to grind, esp for social items, but festivals are not the place for such excessiveness.

In terms of comms, the problem is lake of engagement. I understand the toxicity that sometimes exists from social media outlets like forums, reddit, twitter and that Anet prob get it hurled at them a lot so feel the need to pull back. That doesn’t mean everyone else should suffer. Where are the regular and in depth blogs? Where are the discussions on forthcoming content? Where are we going as a game?
MMO’s suffer without constant dialogue between both parties and without anything to look forward to, they will drift away.

To give an example of this, I had pretty much given up on Lotro. However, they announced an expansion into Mordor within the next year and it motivated me to get playing again and finally finish the journey. I have no idea where GW2 is headed or what the plans are, so where is the engagement in the future of the game?

That’s just me personally.

Duels, Inspections and Vehicals

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Randulf.7614

Ummm, there are a lot of mmo’s out there with player inspection, and none of them use it for greifing. Also I played Aion up till patch 3.2, and “inspection griefing” was never an issue in pvp or otherwise

Every single MMO I have played that has inspection, has a significant enough number of ppl to use it for griefing.
Any gains to be had from inspection would be enormously outweighed by the potential negative issues that would come about.

I’ve played MMO’s for nearly 15 years – I am glad to see the back of this feature.

Vehicles. Well the mount conversation has been had a million times over – by far and away the most discussed topic on these forums. I lean mostly to not having them since the game doesn’t really lend itself to it.
However, I am open to the idea of specifically designed maps that had vehicles exclusively in them. It sort of worked in GW1 with the Junundu Worms. Whether they could pull it off is another. Gliding says they can…activities show that non-traditional action is simply clunky and unplayable.

I suppose the toys would be OK, but they are somewhat immersion breaking, although GW long since ditched any sense of cultivating it’s own style in that regard when it started chucking into game any old skin regardless whether it fitted its Universe or not.

Duels can be done in the Guild Hall or in little corners of WvW. Anet are very keen to keep their modes separate and so pvp should be kept out of pve. Which is fair since the acknowledged feedback has been for less pve stuff thrown into wvw.

[Feedback] The battle of Fort Salma

in Living World

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

I’ve just come from playing through the living world again. The Battle of Fort Salma is fairly easy to win, if annoying.

The problem is this; The achievements are basically set up to be nearly impossible without an organized group. ANET should re consider this idea of more or less forcing group play.

I think lessons were learnt going into HoT and LS3 where the format and reqs are def different. Some of HoT’s ones were more like how GW1 did some of it’s early bonus missions and I quite enjoyed them.

They also learnt that making the achievements doable only on the 2nd run through of the same toon was a bad thing. So overall, progress has been made since LS2

core game good, rest is broken

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

I dont really agree everything past core is broken. I certainly enjoyed the non story part of HoT and it brought a lot of great things to the game like masteries, interesting maps, gliding and elite specs.

Also, we have had 6 fractals since they launched.

Molten dungeon
Molten Boss
Aetherblade dungeon
Aetherblade Boss
Thaumanova
Chaos

You can argue the first 4 are rehashes of a dungeon, but they still required designing from scratch whether dungeon or fractal.

I dont raid, but I dont think they are a waste. They were a requested feature by players and the GW franchise always had elite dungeons. In fact places like FoW and Underworld are amongst the fondest remembered content of GW1.

In an attempt to also keep it on topic, I’m a big fan of rifles in the game. I don’t think they need a big overhaul for Warrior as I kind of like how it is, although I do find the dodge skill a little cumbersome. They could prob use a bit of a damage buff or some extra utility, but they’re fun to use.

Origin of the Giant Charr?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

Namely the Molten Berserker.
Let’s talk about this guy. He is a Charr that has to be close to 20 feet tall!

I’m curious about how the Flame legion/Molten Alliance got a Charr to grow that big. Now, if I’m missing something really obvious that was mentioned in Living World or the Fractal then apologies.

Other wise, what’s your theory?
Have they been feeding him protein shakes and sending him to Terry Crews for a daily workout since birth!? Maybe he ate his freaking’ Warband.

Or do the Charr just get that big sometimes? Every one in a million perhaps. If that’s the case, can there be more?

And, Anet, please give us a 20 foot tall Charr NPC that’s on our side and surprisingly friendly.

Fractals are alternate realities of tyria so there could be a ton of explanations.

This one is not an alternate version. These appeared as the bosses of the Molten Dungeon during LS1 and appear in the fractals in their original form.

I think their appearance is partly explained in the dungeon , but I’m not 100% on that. If I remember rightly, it’s alluded to that they they are the product of unique experimentation and their size, abilities and form are a direct result of that.

To be honest I don’t really care what pricing model – I just want a playable version of it. If I have to pay for it, so be it.

That doesn’t necs represent other people’s views – esp after the enormous backlash over HoT pricing (which I personally thought was a fuss over nothing considering most dlc or expac costs these days..)

The main sticking point is resources and time though. This we know from previous dev comments on it. We can only hope their schedule loosens for a long enough period for them to feel it as much of a priority as many of us do.

Living story season 1 please

Randulf.7614

As for the cost, I know I, and I know many other people, will not have an issue of paying 10-15 euros for a complete LS1 journal in the style of LS2. So if money’s the problem, it’s not a problem.

Plus they’ll have new (or repeats) of the achievements, so the reward for the people who got to play at the time is: They have all the bonus AP from that period

Well we have no accurate data as to how many would pay. It’s possible a large number would object paying for content the previously played for free. They’d have to be confident of the millions of accounts, a significant enough would actually pay.

Having said that, it’s likely more an issue of time and resources than money. I appreciate LS3 and an expac are time consuming projects for all depts, with projects queued up no doubt behind artist, VA and many other schedules.

It does need to happen without question. It’s a major obstacle for new players and the recap they made isn’t anywhere near comprehensive enough to serve as a bridge and they have already stated a new video will not be made.

Hopefully expac 2 will substantial enough to give them enough of a break to be able to work on S1 and S4.

As the leader of the Lyssan Fools acting troupe, he is currently on an extended tour of the estates of Vabbian nobles. Everywhere he travels, he leaves a memorable impression. Few will forget his insightfully accurate and delightfully humorous parody of General Bayel in Gandakittenrformance that should keep him on an extended tour for quite some time. Norgu claims to have traveled throughout Tyria and Cantha, returning with stories of a standing-room-only performance in the court of Emperor Kisu and a standing ovation at the Henge of Denravi. Moving quickly from one region to the next, he uses his sunny disposition and personal charisma to get last-minute invites to parties, audiences with the rich and powerful, and of course, free food. Norgu never met a buffet he didn’t like.”

He was an amusing mesmer hero you could have in your team. Might fit the bill.

Where are the Flail weapons?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

I understand your point if view, however Players will demand expect a wide variety of skins and also at least one new legendary per new weapon. Whilst it sounds a trivial issue, I have no doubt the extra work on the artists would not be trivial to them, especially as each new set of weapons in game and in the BL would involve x number of extra skins. Logically there becomes a point where the number of skins requiring skins becomes too time consuming. We already lack underwater skins due to this in part (alongside the seemingly incorrect belief UW isnt popular).

Separatly to skins, we already have a healthy number of weapon types for an mmo and adding more would not satiate the community who would only call for even more. GW2 uses weapons with great creativity and flexibility to the credit of the design team. Im not sure what adding say a flail or a 2h axe would actually bring that existing weapons could not already.

Maybe they will add new weapons and surprise us, but the game feels like it is in a good place with the current number. With weapons not always functioning as their real world counterpart does, using existing weapons as templates for unique skins (like morningstars) seems a more appropriate way forward.

Where are the Flail weapons?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

There are no flail weapons in the game and it would seem unlikely they would add new weapons what with the extra work needed to either back date BL skins or bring the number of available skins for a new weapon up to a level of parity.

However, there is one exception and that is the Super Adventure Box mace which is a flail. It is normally only available during the festival, however there are some on the trading post for about 86g. I would expect to see more of these over time.

ANET can't create good story final boss fight

Randulf.7614

I found Shiro in factions unkillable on my own at the time. Great Destroyer would have been better if you couldn’t cheap kill him in 10 seconds with pain inverter.

I thought Varesh was pretty good as a boss difficulty, but the one that was notorious was the Lich/Shiro fight from Nightfall. It was regarded as the hardest story boss fight in the game at the time and there were a lot of ppl struggling to get passed that mission.

I think ANet can do good boss fights in story – Shadow of the Dragon (final), Scarlet (final), Glints Cave so we know they can design them. I think the HoT boss difficulty was fine, it was the bugs and perhaps being overshadowed by the real fight outside that hurt it.

I think Vayne’s analysis that the penultimate mission is usually harder also rings true too often. Even in Open World, Mouth of Mordremoth is far easier than the towers. I don’t agree that’s the way they should be designing it. The final boss is a Dragon – that should be always the biggest challenge to defeat, otherwise years of build up gets wasted.

I thought wasting one slot on a ToT bag was very bizarre thinking. I’ve played other MMo’s that use lockboxes correctly and at least give a reasonable chance at decent items. TSW even does a better job with lockboxes – I have 100% of the time got something decent from them – whether it is currency, tokens for upgrading gear, social items or crafting mats.

I’m not saying they should repeat that, but there should be a system in place so that you don’t buy a key and get 1 transmutate charge, 1 level tome, 1 ToT bag. That should never once be happening, especially if you want to entice players to buy more regularly. Why would you buy a key for a very high chance at a trans charge or a tome when you can get those from logging in or buy from the gem store (charges).

A guaranteed scrap would at least entice players to buy more.

The only way these boxes will ever truly change if those ppl who hate the boxes, stop buying keys. I find it amazing how many ppl who abhor them, still keep dumping gold/cash into the system.

Topic says it all 28 black lion chest keys not ONE uncommon item or better… is it worth it? I have my answer, feel free to drop your (most likely) sad or (if your lucky enough) awesome drop rates below, so we can come to a better understanding as to how awful it is to add festival specific items like the new grasping glider! Gj Anet 10/10!

I will probably try another 25 soon, since I am a glutton for punishment, and give my reportings.

And yet their metrics will show one person bought a chunk of keys ( I am assuming you did buy them?) and if you buy more, it shows you are willing to keep going with the gamble. If many others try that, all it shows them is that the system is successful.

The more players invest in them, the greater the likelihood of their metrics showing the system works is.

I’m no fan of poor RNG in lockboxes, but they do seem to be working as intended when players keep buying them with that hope of a lucky drop or mass buying as RNG tests.
