It was prob thanks to my cheer leading from afar
gratz though
I want you to know…I’m rooting for you
You should have a better idea of peak in NA than I do, but either way it tends to be evenings when ppl aren’t working and kids arent at school.
If you are EU its evening usually I find between 6pm and 10pm
There are 3 ways, all of which you are probably aware;
- Join a guild specialising in running these maps. You will never have a problem again
- Join the map during peak. This map will never garner enough ppl at off peak play times
- Use lfg to find maps to taxi into
- Take the lead to drum up support using tags if you have them and a starting group of ppl. Once more and more ppl see tags they will start to gather momentum round them and the map has a chance of filling
It would be fine if it was the only major meta. Given a choice of splitting players time between the straightforward VB (only needs coord for t4), SIlverwastes and the excellent Auric and Dragions Stand metas, something is going to give.
Tangled is not a map ppl are enjoying (I like it for different reasons though) and so combined with the confusing meta, ppl aren’t flocking to it.
Mordys massive aoe phase should barely touch you if there aren’t bugs in play. First time he hit it he downed me (impressive since I have nearly 35k health) and Caithe immediately rezzed me. 2nd time, I saw the updrafts and never got hit again.
Can’t comment on Canach as he wasn;t one of my bosses.
There are bugs in play though – I was lucky not to get any, but plenty of threads are showing where they are and the problems being caused.
I think the idea is that the open world map-wide meta events are as much part of the story as the instances are, and happen somewhat simultaneously (very explicit in the case of the Dragon’s Stand final battle, which happens the exact same time as the final instance).
So, while it’s admittedly not very well laid out in the single-player story instances, we most definitely did not just “walk our way to Mordremoth’s inner lair with not much trouble”, there were massive offensives going on that made it possible for us to sneak past Mordy’s defenses. Very much recommend playing the meta event content and the Dragon’s Stand one in particular for the complete story experience.
As Konig suggested in a diff thread, this could have be explained by using the same strategy as The Marionette – ie being a part of the meta and boss in DS, succeed or fail. Then pushing onto the inner sanctum. Rather than appearing all the way across what should have been the most hostile of all the areas.
Question, can you wear it with an outfit on and still have the bat effects?
Have you ever been able to see your armor shoulders while wearing an outfit?
No, but as these have a different way if showing the effect, I’m curious as to whether it still shows through. If it def doesn’t, it just saves me the effort of crafting. I presume someone has the shoulders who can test this.
Question, can you wear it with an outfit on and still have the bat effects?
Could be a hive mind thing. Possibly harder to corrupt a wider consciousness?
‘you’ in this case is the reality of players, anet, reviewers. But people like you Randulf, you only respond to belittle, and have nothing positive to say about the game.
Which in effect is the same as saying ’don’t bother buying it’
Eh I have masses of good to say about the game? I have outright said it is one of the best expacs I have played? Where on Earth did you pull that nugget from? I have no reason to sell it to you though especially when you are demanding and rude. I will happily list all the great things about the game and expac, but perhaps a politer way of asking is in order?
Who needs to convince you? Us? Not really down to the community to convince ppl. Anet? There’s a whole website devoted to just that.
There’s plenty of reviews out there which give the pros and cons in detail.
Tangled Depths is not very popular. I expect to see some tweaking to that map.
VB and Dragons Stand have generally good populations. Auric varies depending on time of day. It is a very good meta, but I think trying to fill so many coordinated metas is quite a big ask from Anet and that could be where things are falling down. Esepcially since SW is still going strong for xp/events/gold + matfarming

Because the vast majority of ppl want to work for their rewards/progression etc. It is about finding that right balance. I think Anet have come pretty close with this iteration.
The game has been out 3 years and is taking the natural assumption players will have or will work towards 100% mmap completion. From full completion you then require 4 hero points in HoT. That is not 10x as much work.
It’s just ppl with hardcore time investment – they spend huge amounts of time in game, but also quickly discover optimum xp farming areas, with xp boosters going at all times.
It’s about time and efficiency. Not something that I could do, but it is how some like to play. It’s not you doing anything wrong.
There are no known immediate plans. All they have said is one day it will return.
In the end, ya done good Anet... ya done good

Story aside (which was a big let down for me) there are lots of positives to take from the new content. 3 outstanding metas (VB, Auric and Dragon Stand), some great elites, gliding is amazing, challenging content.
The verticality was a great idea and worked really well. I know some areas are very confusing and hard to navigate, but mostly it panned out really well and the dangerous environment you went for you captured just right.
It’s not the best expansion I’ve played, but it is one of the better for sure.
To address your point in your OP, it is a random bug. It did not happen for me. She got stuck at one point and didn’t move or attack which drew the fight out by about 10-15mins, but her breakbar was fine.
Worth ensuring it is reported either in the main bugs thread (with a black spoiler band over it) or using the in game bug reporting tool.
Aha right. Sounds like something new implemented which is not working.
Good that they are trying to put that in
There is a clear spoiler hint in your title. I would change to
[Spoiler]Final Boss Broken BreakbarThey’re not being cry babies, it is perfectly legit ppl shouldn’t have to see a spoiler in a title
Honestly if you want to avoid spoilers that bad then you shouldnt be in this section of the forums. I guess I can change the title though.
It is also where ppl are collating feedback, so it is vital not to have spoilers flashed about.
But thank you for now changing it.
Unless something has changed in the last week, GW2 has never done that. It was always dumps you into a lower population map if you were in a full/high one
NA and EU or just NA?

If you want a good story, single player RPGs are that way ->
Seriously, go play witcher 3, its one of the best story telling and story progression in a game I’ve ever seen.
This is an MMORPG.
Most of the ppl didn’t buy it to play story mode…….
I certainly didn’t make this purchase and expected some amazing, grand story….CONTENT thats what makes and breaks MMORPG…..not story mode lol.
most ppl could care less if the story is disappointing……I for one am glad anet didn’t spend a lot of time and resources into such an unimportant aspect of an expansion….
Unimportant to yourself, but many of us are invested in it. It was the weakest part of an otherwise decent expac. But it was rushed through, ignoring vast swathes of lore. No Malyk, no other Pale Tree, no egg explanation, very little about the sylvari turning.
The story was a big part of the expac to us. It just wasn’t given the time and resources needed to make it more than half a season’s worth of short story.
Giving a sense of urgency seems to be where they went wrong, since it is that deliberate philosophy that caused it too feel so incredibly lore lite and took away much of the epic feel. They could have had the urgency and the rescues end the first half of the story, then the rest concentrate on gathering the remaining pact for a final push into Dragon Stand.
On the way we could have found out about other Trees, The Exalted could have given us info on the egg, we could have been receiving reports about sylvari turns back home to make the urgency greater. I wanted to know much more about the Sylvari, the Dream and the Nightmare. That time has now gone.
Options, options, options. All cut short for a headlong charge into the jungle. Kilroy Stonekin at least would be proud
It no longer makes much sense for there to be any sylvari reprucussions. Mordy being defeated releases control and prevents any further corruption. Considering how insanely quick we took him down after entering the jungle, it is likely most of Tyria never even noticed the “turning”.
Much potential was lost with all the hype of Sylvari turning against everyone and then doing so little with it.
Short of dropping your settings (specifcally textures, reflections etc) or upgrading your hardware, no there isn’t. It is an extremely performance taxing region I’m afraid.
OK, alone I shall stand..head held high, but I have absolutely loved playing…
Tempest
If you are being killed by the aoe are you using your glider to avoid it? It is a long fight tho. I think it was 20-30 mins on my pvt mace and shield warrior, so it is drawn out. There shouldnt be much damage though, since mechanics are in place to avoid most of it.
There are no zephyrite ships left. The whole fleet was destroyed, so it can’t return or at least be like it was.
Sure it was good, but it was chosen to be cut away as part of showing how the Living World could constantly change. Sadly premature since that idea has gone out of the window with map metas that will be stuck in time forever. Nonetheless, Laby Cliffs is unlikely ever to return to the game unless the story goes there and I can’t foresee that happening.
It was a well told death for her, although I’d have liked to have seen her strike once. Weirdly enough, I had more emotion for
Scruffy’s demise…sniff
I think the issue with the end of the personal story is that once you enter Dragon’s Stand you’re prompted into an instance which takes you across half the zone to the very ending, and when you leave said instance you’re not back in the map but an open instance where you access the final instance.
Basically, you never witness the “true battle” before you fight Mordremoth itself. With Zhaitan, not only was there the huge Pact fleet in the distance while you were battling risen, but before Victory or Death you were constantly pushed towards events in three warzone zones – rather than just one. .
This is precisely how I felt. It was too rushed to get you to the end.
I think the confusion is from the Mouth fight I’m hearing about for the map meta. As someone pointed out in the lore forums, the story is “pressing you” past the fight itself straight down south, missing the whole pact vs Mordy fight and straight into the instance.
As Konig pointed out, we got to see the fight unfold as we approached Zhaitan, but here we’re thrust straight to the end once you enter the zone and start the story.
It sounds like what I am looking for is in that section of open world the story seems to skip right through. That will be something I’ll look into tomorrow
Mordys mind games are at it again. He’s blighted the hamster this time
Yeah can’t get in either. Exact same issue as yesterday
Personally I think the new composition has done more for the game than Jeremy Soule did. He did wonders for GW1, but it hasn’t always been quite right for this game. The score in the expac is exceptional throughout.
People like myself completed it because we hit no bugs at all. It was completely smooth experience. Unfortunately that is simply luck at work. It’s been widely reported bugs do exist so hopefully fixes are inbound
What are you talking about? Mordremoth so totally has a mouth. You even fight against it.
Also, I wouldn’t call the skies above Arah “confined”. (lots of stuff wrong with that fight, but scale was not one of those things)
I’ll rephrase since you;re right. The direct interaction is confined since you are involved only on the final cannon phase.
I have seen no mouth or body at all in the story. Is that part of the map meta I hear about? I’ve seen no one doing it yet so I haven’t been a part of that.
Tbh, this is a paid expansion. The story shouldn’t be the size of half a LS season. I expected lots of waypointing around the world, to queen, to pale tree, even to arah and durmand priory. I anticipated more nightmare court vs. mordremoth, even an alliance with Dreamers and NC. This story is so straightforward, flat, short and predictable.
I also hoped to see a living forgotten in Tarir or somewhere else. It isn’t even explained why the Forgotted have left the world.Pretty much this, except for the living forgotten in Tarir part.
I expected us to take a detour after rescuing DE to go and stop anti-sylvari revolts in LA, to form new alliances with the Nightmare Court to rebuild the Pact, to question the Pale Tree on the revelation, to find out what’s so kitten important about the egg.
Instead, we get a rather straightforward and kill-all-main-characters storyline with too little screentime to our friends, too many Pact survivors for the so-called decimated Pact, and too fast of a revelation to how to kill Mordremoth (“Mordremoth is everywhere.” “So we’ll take the fight to his mind, inside the Dream!” – despite the fact that the Dream was stated to be protection against Mordremoth and not Mordremoth’s mind/domain as the final story instance says), and one hell of a cliffhanger with the egg.
I was expecting something more in the story.
The open world zones are great – mostly – and the mechanics are superb. But the story was short, I felt like the Pact got grounded and nothing more – too many camps of survivors – and it feels like all the bringing up of the Mordrem Guard and “sylvari are dragon minions” was 100% irrelevant to the actual plot. The Mordrem Guard felt no more smarter than the Orrian Risen.
Non-Mordrem Guard Mordrem are to the standard risen as the Mordrem Guard are to Orrian risen. Yet they were promoted as this “new thing for the Pact to face”. Their “fallen foes become their enemies” and “the sylvari can turn at any moment” yet I never got that later part. “The Mordrem Guard are not mindless” yet there was practically no conversation – except with Faolain, who actually looks like a corrupted sylvari unlike the Mordrem Guards or the three commanders who couldn’t possibly resemble their sylvari selfs.
And as complex and fun as the final fight was, it didn’t really feel like a fight against an Elder Dragon.
This isn’t to say it wasn’t bad. It was good, actually. Especially mechanics, voice acting, art, music, and individual story step writing. But as a while the story felt like a rush – and I wasn’t even rushing through mastery farming or the like. I was taking my time. It felt like we were just “okay onto the next thing” which the Personal Story had an issue with – once a chapter passed, we’re onto the next unrelated thing.
Overall:
It was good, but it didn’t live up to expectations set by ArenaNet. Again.
Pretty accurate analysis. It was very enjoyable storytelling, but it never felt like a war against Mordremoth, just a band of 6 ppl going to save their friends and killing an Elder Dragon en route, almost as a side effect.
As an expansion story, it needed a huge amount more story per map. For example fhen you arrive in Dragons Stand, it immediately ports you to the South at the start of the story, removing any sense of journey through what should be the most dangerous land of all.
you don’t even get to see the full Dragon itself.
I don’t think there was a dragon (body). He was the entire jungle, and the only way to fight him was his mind.
That didn’t make a huge amount of sense to me to be honest when they said that. How is it defined as a dragon if its just the jungle come alive? How did it have a mouth in the end cutscene of LW?
I think it could have had one, deep rooted with us attacking its body first, using the leyline power, using our gliders to get past its out defences before entering its mind.
The game does an outstanding job of building up a perception of huge physical presence of its eldritch protaganists, but as of yet has only produced small scale fights or at least very confined fights. Nothing that has conveyed the awe and threat of the being we are up against.
I thought the content we got was value for money and pretty sizeable. My main point of contention was the story length. It was perhaps only half as long as I had hoped. Thoroughly enjoyable, but it skipped through things far too quickly and before then onto the next set piece.
I’m one of the few who thinks more should have been gated behind masteries or at least the final battle.
I thought it was an excellent fight, but extremely poor for an Elder Dragon. Built up for 3 years, with an extremely short expac story chain (wow that was short) and you don’t even get to see the full Dragon itself. I really hope when we go up against Jormag, we get to fight Jormag in a big epic scale fight. This one could have utilised so much more of the masteries – it would have made a lot more sense for the final battle to mastery gated, since you need to be strong to take him down.
As a normal boss fight though, it was great. Just wrong for an all powerful, eldritch monster.
Despite the extremely short story for the expansion, it was at least very enjoyable at all points. Was there anything after the final cutscene by the way? New buil hit and I got booted
Well no, that would be a huge undertaking to add another set so soon. Expect more, but at the earliest for the next expac in a few years time
I don’t think the server having issues was deliberately done by Anet to spite you. I would calm yourself and instead edit your post to feedback that like many others, you are having issues so they can identify where the source of the problem is so it can be fixed.
It is gamewide. There has been no response from Anet about it. My guild have given up for the night trying to get back in and I think I may be the lst man standing in my shard of VB…lol
This is my only current issue with Tempest. I’m absolutely loving the class otherwise. I can live with it and it does make for tough decision making between the two, but I rue not being able to have both options.
It’s probably done for the best, but one can dream
Currently ppl can’t wp either in the map I’m on.
Cant even switch maps. WHen a low population map offers to send you to a new one, it refuses saying network error
