Whilst I applaud an original idea, it definitely doesn’t fit the world or story of open world GW. I can’t see it enhancing the game at all, especially if it had open world pvp.

Could this be adapted for the main pvp game? Possibly. I don’t pvp so I’m not best placed to answer that.

I had taken a break from the game for various reasons. Tried other MMOs and enjoyed them less. I’ve recently found a group of people I thoroughly enjoy (and am discovering others!) and it makes GW2 very enjoyable.

I suggest that you find people you enjoy. Once you’ve done that, it won’t matter what you’re doing … dungeons, fractals, open world, sPvP, WvW, or just chatting it up in LA.

I have friends who would play this game with me if there is challenging content but without some challenging content they will not play this game unfortunately. I’m trying to find reasons to convince them to give this a try.

I’m not worried about gearing up or anything like that. What I’m interested in is difficult encounters to work on for a sense of achievement and challenge. It doesn’t have to be raids or dungeons, it just has to be difficult, so is there anything like that in this game?

The short answer to your final question is no. The game didn’t really try to push that kind of content at launch and hasn’t made huge strides beyond 1 dungeon to do so. ANd that’s fine, because that isn’t strictly what GW2 is about. The open world/exploring/wvw etc keeps ppl playing.

Having said that, they are recognising a need for challenging content;

- the annual Gauntlet is a skill test of 1 player vs 1 boss in series of harder challenges. But thats a yearly event thing and not in game atm.

- Season 2 brought more challenging mobs for the story and new maps. I don’t think this matches what you are after though. SIlverwastes is more difficult than most zones

- 2 new major bosses – Tequatl (now thorughly licked by the community) and Triple Headed Worm (only doable by highly organised guilds and raid groups – rarely done by most standards in game due to difficulty)

- The expansion WILL bring challenging content in a form we currently have not been told.

If you are looking for traditional endgame challenging content ala TSW/WoW/FF14, then realistically speaking (and this is from someone who thoroughly enjoys this game) it isn’t here…yet

Bagpipes would be something I would buy, however only if they actually sounded like bagpipes. LOTRO added them years ago and they in no way resembled the sound.

I happen to like the sound of a well tuned/played bagpipe, so would happily listen to ppl playing tunes on this.

And I agree – add Suggestion to the title

Everything shown and announced so far already is much more than a single season of Living Story, with plenty more of the finer details to be revealed.

It takes an enormous amount of hard work to make an expac so the break is more than justified. Even if they started during S2, they would have been limited in what they could do – I can’t begin to imagine their workload with multiple projects on the go.

Again…. I am aware that this is just a beta and there will be more.

I just don’t think you realize that this “demo” is actually just a repackaged Living Story.

If no expansion was announced, and the living world just continued on what do you think we would see?

Considerably less than this. Its an expansion of their living world yes. But we knew that…the living world is the core of their game.

Im still not seeing the concern after a tiny little demo which was designed not to reveal all the stuff to come.

We cant judge the size and scope based on what has been tested so far

Randulf.7614

It was never really developed sadly. With no story left on it or interesting events, there is no reason to go apart from the boss and the jps.

Sad really, its on of my fav zones. Id like to see something like the sclerite weapons added back in, obtained in a way similar to dry top amber weaps. That would liven it up. Or something like the lost coins hunts.

Randulf.7614

I think all of you are missing the point I’m trying to make.

I of course understand this is an unfinished product, because nobody would pay a dime for what we beta tested earlier.

What I am getting at is….. this “expansion” they are working on is a sorry excuse even for a living story episode.

It is a living story episode that Anet is overinflating to make it look like an expansion.

Look at Dry Top

Look at Silverwastes

Look at Southsun Cove

and look at this.

It is literally no different… save they are adding a new profession.

So why is Anet putting it behind a pay wall?

Because it is an expansion. Its not a tiny little living story episode. Its not a bit of story dressed up. Its a huge piece of content with tons of new features, a few new maps, a borderland and…well the list gors on.

The difference between dry top and this is so huge it is incomparable. If anything it
will count for a season or more of story rather than one episode. Where on earth did you get it would just one single episode from anyway?

We got a demo, specifically tweaked and reduced for a stress test. A little introduction and thats it. To base judgement on an entire expansion on this….is just bizarre.

Am i concerned? No, not in the the slightest tiny little bit

The interview doesnt really imply anything other than there really isnt any pre conceived lore for some of the fractals. They are deliberately vague to enhance the mystery of the fractals.

The ascalonian elonian comment is just there to seed some speculation for the fun of speculation, that seems fairly straightforward from the first response. The whole interview alludes to the fractals being interpretable however you, as the player, want to interpret them. Which i find a pretty cool concept.

That in my book is the great attraction of the early fractals.

Everybody has already said what I was going to say basically. I did not have any fps issues at all or lag issues even tho I was streaming. So maybe the fps drops some are experiencing is PC related and not game related.

For my part it is PC related yes. But caused by an increase in certain aspects of effects in the game itself.

That’s not necs a bad thing mind you, but it is something for some players to be aware of.

I agree with the catch your breath bit Palador, but I think that is partly by design for the beta test. There are clearly little nooks and safe paths off from this bit, but cut off by the demo’s boundaries. I think they wanted it like this to a) show off the warzone aspect of the expac for streamers and demos and b) ensure the stress test had as much strain as possible.

I found it very chaotic, largely in a good sense – there’s a lot going on and people working together.

The Rev was impossible to judge straight in at level 80, although I hated the hammer as a weapon and enjoyed mac/axe far, far more. That’s more a playstyle thing though.

Gliding didn’t feel intuitive, but there wasn’t much chance to really test it over a wide area. Probably one of those things that will become more natural with play.

I liked the Wyvern and I loved he didn’t have a timer. He was very much a boss straight out of TSW world though (anyone who remembers Flappy will see some small similarities here).

Yeah fps was a major issue with so many effects – smoke especially. I mainly tried the beta to decide whether my PC needs upgrading and I think this will give encourage me to do so. It should be playable just fine on lower settings though for anyone else with fps issues in effects heavy zones.

Apart from the latter, there was very little negative to take away. There were certainly less bugs than I expected too.

Wyvern glitches in and out when he goes to fly off.

Intense smoke effects are a real concern for some gfx/pcs. Not sure if that’s solvable tbh

Have you tried seeing how it is affected by graphics options?

Tbh it’s probably fine on lower settings and certainly wont affect everyone- I play mid-low. It’s as much a heads up for either players to be warned about or for devs in terms of optimising. It has given me a massive headache though.

Those who experience fps issues in the dredge halls of FG or in Dry Top will have the same issues here in a more chaotic environment.

Why 1 day sales in the gem store?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Randulf.7614

Randulf.7614

It’s always been something that frustrates me. As a retailer of physical product, the only reason not to stock something will be down to space restrictions/buying restrictions or lack of popularity.

Online stores for games are virtual space and none of these restrictions are relevant. This is not a real world economy. Put an item in the store…keep it there. You may not get sales spikes, but you get better sales over a longer period as new players come into the game.

I will forever remain baffled by such decisions, even more so when these sales occur and you consider a majority of people tend to get paid at the end of a month..

I have a rather unique apothecary/cleric ele set up with scepter and dagger. The condi damage is very high, with strong heals and resistance to fght off the tougher mobs and keep npcs alive. It isnt a meta or optimal build, but i enjoy it and i know how to use it.

I also love tornado as an elite, it is superb against modrem packs, where there are menders or swarms around key npcs.

I have other builds, but this is the one i enjoy the most for the new content.

I’ve had the same issue. I signed up for the newsletters, but have received no conformation email or newsletter since. I understand there might not have been any newsletters since the time I subscribed, but at the very least you’d think ANet would send a confirmation email so you at least knew that your efforts to sign up were a success.

You might think so, but in actuality there is no confirmation email.

Correct. I have never received any confirmation email or anything else from Anet snce they announced subscribing to the newsletter for a chance at beta. I did get a beta invite.

Its just a 2 hour stress test, nothing fancy. And selections were entirely random. More chances will come soon.

I believe Nebo Terrace is bugged. It never used to be like that. Although it’s been reported a huge amount via reports and the forums, I suspect it has been left this way because a lot of people quite liked it, partly for the reasons you stated.

I do understand your sentiment though and I think we will start to see this with HoT. Living Story season 1 had some examples of this as well with the invasions across the entire continent. That was pretty epic and good fun, despite the zergs.
