Oh yeah, I’d forgotten to complain about this after my less-than-satisfying episode 8 experience.

It seems that in the rush to remove loot from story instances, they removed everything that happens on monster death, including sigils.

im morally opposed to seeing a giant cat in a dress….

A Charr in a dress is the epitome of femininity.

I’m going to point out that the pink tutu is on a dude.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that. If Gnasher Feelpretty wants a dress, Gnasher Feelpretty gets a dress.

World of Warcraft had a system where you had a personal drop that you could obtain with the use of a special coin item (of which you could only ever have a maximum of 10). If you didn’t get anything 3 times in a row (or maybe it was 4), you were guaranteed to get a drop on its next use. Since the loot tables were transparent, you’d know exactly what item you wanted and could save your next token for it.

Just a thought.

In before “only 3? game would die” comments.

First, could be 10, 15, 20. (Depending on content, please please no more than 20 or so.)

Second, not a bad idea to have a non-gem item to purchase with gold (possibly priced at 1 or 2 gold), to grant a buff significantly raises the chance of a specific drop in a small time frame and then removes itself when the drop occurs.

An odd thing to notice:
When daily event shows up, it targets a specific zone. This is bad. Players need room to spread out so events aren’t as zerg’d.
When daily vista shows up, it targets a region. This is laughably easy, since players just go to the appropriate home city and ping the easiest one. (Guilty as charged.)

They really ought to flip the two.
Daily regional event.
Daily zone vista.

Wouldn’t streakbreaker or token systems add to wealth disparity between veteran/hardcore players and new/casual players?

I get the impression they would, unless (dreaded) time-gating was used. Simple fact that those with more time to play and money to burn get more odds in the giant RNG lottery.

Though, that interpretation orients more around magic-find and tradeable items. I’d suspect that token-based rewards would be more account bound, which should keep them out of the general marketplace (salvageability somewhat excluded).

I’m curious what kind of feminine styles are being asked for here.
Dresses?
I can see it on an Asura.

On a Charr, no. Charr need nothing that floofs or dangles ventral to them while they run. And there are so, so many armor designs that get this flat-out wrong, because they were designed for human bodies, then terribly stretched to a wide-legged stance. Charr need more pants, not less.
Conversely, the Ancestral outfit was pretty insulting for female Charr. The males get a spiffy-cool ornament on their tails, but the females don’t. Some people were ticked about that one.

I was happy to hear about the PAX announcement too. At this point we can bet it’s an expansion is some form, but to see an advertisement in-game was immersion breaking and distressing. Stick the ad on the loading screen, character select screen, fine, that works. But in-game? What’s next, The Goodyear Pact Blimp? Trahearne offering us a 20% discount on the Deluxe Bundle? Where is the line drawn between production and marketing?

Immersion breaking?

As if the pink/purple half naked mustached’ Norn wasn’t immersion breaking for you?

Could do a sort of LS2 boss room A.K.A. capcom boss blitz, fight the fun bosses one after another or one a day for a daily.

Not a half bad idea. They did something like this in another mmo (probably more than one, just one I remember) and it was a fun filler until more story and large-scale raids came out.

Maybe this could be integrated into the fractal paradigm? Shadows of old enemies forming in the mists? That gives you the option to basically do hardmode versions of the old bosses too.

I like the sound of that.

For LS2 specifically, I wouldn’t mind seeing something in the the chapter selection panel that lets you instance directly to an unfinished challenge. A smaller, tighter instance that would exclude chatter, get to the fight, and end once the achievement triggers. It might not even need to load most of the NPCs at that point, so mapping them into it wouldn’t be necessary. In, done, gone.

Why cant we have difficult content?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rauderi.8706

What i’m saying is that maybe people shouldn’t think about themselves all the time.
Honestly, would it hurt you that much to maybe use something aside damage from time to time?

That delves into the realm of “dead monsters don’t hurt.” Damage is, in GW2, the optimum approach to all things. And all classes are capable of support in some way, if built for it, so there’s not much need to focus in that direction.

The problem comes in when most world encounters are designed huge monoliths as HP sponges and little else going on. If the mob hits, it either does nothing, or it’s a cheap one-shot death with very little in between. Conditions beyond vulnerability are pointless in those fights, and support is relegated to might/fury stacking. Dungeons will, at least, call for vigor/aegis/stability.

It’s a not a good state of affairs, really.

There’s a big difference between a gimmick and difficult content.

100% agree with this statement.

I feel as if the GW2 team doesn’t do more than focus on gimmicks for “difficulty.”
Chain stuns or chain fears. Instant death attacks. Indomitable.

Sadly, the gimmicks stack with frequently poor conveyance about when an ability is going to fire or how it separates from other, less dangerous abilities. So it ends up being that many combats are merely frustrating instead of appropriately challenging.

General Consensus on Condition Damage?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

Well I’d approve seeing overflow damage being applied direct….
bleeding would trigger heamoraging
burning would trigger immolation
poison would trigger fatal dose
torment would trigger haunted
confusion would trigger panic
terror would trigger horror
dropped/overwritten stack woul be applied direct….

Damage could just be applied as physical (imagine a 24 second stack of high condidmg bleed being released 24*150…3600 dmg hit…) It would fit… at least for PvE

I like those names. Even if it only caused half that damage it’d be brilliant (1800 damage is worse than 3600, sure, but it’s a whole lot better than 0).

I’m kind of surprised they haven’t done something like this, but as I said, I don’t think they consider it that important: imagine if there was a bug where only the first 25 sources of direct damage were processed each second, these condition caps are like that, just not as obvious.

It would involve retuning the mob health/scaling algorithms but that’s not a bad thing, IMO.

Meshing condition stacks into one doesn’t quite work, since each contributor needs to have their portion marked, especially for traits like the HP-gain on condition ticks for Necro.

Best I could see right now are:
1. Each player gets their own portion of the stack. Stack strength and duration get adjusted with each new application by the player. I’ve done some half-kittened modeling on it, and it looks okay. The idea is terrible for PvP/WvW though, and would best if only applied to Elite and higher enemies in PvE.
2. Removed stacks do a portion of their damage when replaced. OR Stacks applied after the stack cap do a portion of their damage immediately. Less of an issue in PvP/WvW, since condition cleanses are prevalent. Might take some balancing tweaks, but it could work.
3. Rebalance PvE enemies for greater Toughness and less HP. It increases the value of condition damage without raising it in PvP/WvW. It doesn’t solve condition stack problems and players getting credit, and it’s also a hefty investment for a balance pass.

A: Not.

I’ve run out of enjoyable things to do that aren’t RNG-based grind. Living Story, while giving an occasional good fight, hasn’t been interesting enough to justify long waits and shoddy writing. I can’t even AP hunt with it, because the devs don’t respect our time enough to let us bypass the story in front of easily-failed objectives.

Quality of life keeps improving, but with traits as they are and overall unsatisfying content, I can’t be convinced to do more than a few dailies before I log off. :\

Sylvari forum section

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

Reason people dislike Trahearne is because he just suddenly appears in the lesser races personal stories whereas for sylvari master race he’s there from pretty much the start.

Actually, it’d probably be more offensive to other Sylvari.
“Oh, hello again, Trehearne! So glad to be working with you again in as a part of [my order].”

T: “Hello. I am Trehearne, a scholar of Orr and necromancy.”

“I.. know that already. Remember, I got you the awesome sword Caladbolg as a part of my calling from my Dream? You.. don’t remember that, do you?”

T: “This won’t end well.”

Also some of the dislike towards living stories have probably been because of their focus on terribly written Sylvari characters.

Fixed.

While I find the lack of involvement by other races to be an irritant, I can definitely feel foreshadowing in the heavy influence of Sylvari because of Mordremoth. There’s a lot of potential in it, but I’m not sure I trust the writing staff to do it well. :\

I’d love to see Trehearne grow as a character, but he’ll likely remain a stale figurehead of the Pact.
Canach can do so much more than be some chaotic evil, mustache-twirling eco-terrorist. Instead, he seems more likely to betray Anise and laugh maniacally.
Scarlet… sigh. I’ll admit to liking her at first. But, she was just too g’dang Mary Sue for contrived plot purposes. A weedy Joker with less personality.
Caithe, even in with Destiny’s Edge, is limp and melancholy, so seemingly put out by doing good for good’s sake that she may as well just flop Nightmare and get it over with.
Faolin’s descent into evil took, almost literally, three lines of dialog to explain. Her fall should have been stretched out much more, but instead, we see her as an already psychotic personality with no redeeming qualities at all (or any reason for Caithe to love her).

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

A lot of people are complaining about the zergs destroying events, but this really isn’t a problem with the event daily. The problem effecting players is to do with downscaling. At the moment downscaling is so ineffective that a level 80 can one hit a low level mob with its weakest attack, and this shouldn’t be happening anyway let alone on the event dailies. All that is happening is the event dailies are highlighting this problem even more, they are not the cause of it.

The downscaling problem should not be a reason to fix the event daily, the event daily should be a reason to fix the downscaling problem.

You’re (mostly) wrong …

The events in low level zones do not upscale … so there’ll always be 8 grawl to kill on the second stage of the Shaman questline. Now have 60 players and 8 grawl …

Even players of the appropriate level can kill a grawl in 3 – kittens so there’s no way that all 60 will score. And – even though you might enjoy self flagellation – if ANet really would not make a difference between a true level 6 and a downscaled 80 they’ll never have to worry about the megaserver because you will have an easy time of fitting the remaining players on one server.

Just so you get it – a true level 6 has less than 10% crit chance – if you’d truly want to downlevel you’d have to take away all traits that enhance cc – rendering all sigils that proc off critical useless – forcing all players to use different weapons to use in low level zones, readjusting their builds whenever they go to low level zones.

I think that’d be enough for most players to say goodbye to GW 2 – I know I’d do it if ANet would really implement this. If I would want to play a level 5 char I’d use a level 5 char and not play years to get a level 80 + full ascended equipment + very, very expensive sigils and runes, thank you very much.

Edit: Why the heck does “h i t s” get’s changed to kitten when I type hits?
Edit: Oh I see – kitten s where 5 is seens as a substitute for s … more great programming

It’s basically the same problem as the pre-events for Fire Elemental. You’d think they would fix the scaling, but they haven’t. So yeah, event scaling is terrible in many cases, and the daily quest zones aren’t fit to handle it. I don’t overly mind daily zone events as a daily, provided that 1) dailies actually happen, and 2) the zerg is challenged enough by scaling that they don’t just sit around doing nothing. More mobs, more elite ranks.

Which would make the Nightmare Court equivalent of Drow.

Please don’t make me hate the Sylvari any more. I wanted to like them for their refreshing outlook on life.

Well, no, because Drow are an entirely different race from other elves in most settings. The Nightmare Court are still Sylvari, they just have a different philosophy.

Except turning to the nightmare court does seem to invoke some metaphysical difference. But yes, the analogy, like all analogies, falls apart somewhere. =P

Sylvari remind of GW2 version of elves. Elves are ussually forest dwellers who love sticks and twigs and stuff where as the Sylvari love sticks and twigs and stuff SOOOO MUCH they are actually made of them.

EXTREME ELVES!

Which would make the Nightmare Court equivalent of Drow.

Just sad that, you know… Scarlet made the race more unbearable.

First there was Trahearne the Mary Sue’s personal story…

Then there was Scarlet “Plot Device armed with Infinite Unobtanium” Briar…

What next?

You forgot Canach the Forgettable and the Southsun Debacle. And tomorrow, we continue with Faolin and Caithe’s Dysfunctional Relationship Hour.
(Literally, an hour, most likely. The content won’t be that long. =P)

Suggestion: Dynamic gathering nodes

Only in an MMO – walk into a forest and can’t find a tree to harvest.

My favorite was always FFXI and having a bone chip being an uncommon drop off of a skeleton. Obviously, I obliterated the first 20 of them into a fine powder until I was able to restrain myself enough to recover one.

Zhevra hooves. Nuff said. >_<

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I have a suggestion regarding the PvE gathering daily tasks.

Currently, we have the following situation:
1. One daily task consists of mining ore, chopping lumber or foraging plants in a specific world region.
2. The reward chest for this mini-achievement contains more materials of the same kind that you had to gather.

However, this leaves the crafting materials of leather and cloth underutilized. Especially since the new dailies give a significant injection of ore and lumber into the economy, while especially cloth is undersupplied.

For this reason, I would very much appreciate one of the following changes to not make cloth materials even more expensive (relative to ore and lumber, at least):

A. Have the reward chest contain leather and/or cloth materials, rather than more ore/lumber.
B. Add leather and cloth gathering nodes (e.g. skinnable animals for leather and wool, certain plants for other cloth), along with corresponding daily achievements and reward chests.
C. Significantly increase the chance of cloth scrap drops, and especially of items that salvage into cloth.

As an aside, I have noticed that many of the more recently added loot tables in the game include a small chance of dropping a few cloth scraps of any tier. I assume this is done in order to compensate for the relatively high demand for cloth in (ascended) crafting. However, this becomes mostly pointless if the new daily system gives daily reward chests that contain comparable amounts of lumber/ore/cooking ingredients.

I could actually see re-adding salvaging as a daily, but make the reward chest strictly cloth straps.

Caithe and Glint have met each other.

“Met” each other. bow-chicka.

Mounts [merged]

Mount should be 100% speed (double normal warlking speed), so we don’t need to rely on a kitten skill slot all the time. Also, not every class has a signet and some are a bit annoying to keep up.

That is part of the game! Choose your build, skills, runes, and sigils wisely.

Because we all love getting hamstrung in open world because of some illusion of PvP/WvW balance? :\ Nah.
It’s a case for open-world mounts, however mild. Thankfully, there’s waypoints, but that doesn’t mean sloughing from place to place while others merrily skip around is a fun thing.

Much the same, the whole reason I fell into banner warrior was because I can get 100% uptime on swiftness via warhorn. I like my banner warrior. :P It’s sort of a lemonade out of lemons situation.

Had a sylvari mesmer somewhere in the 60s, intending to go with either D/D speed options (before I realized they didn’t stack >_<), then some other weird experiment. Finally got tired of him and off’d in in favor of an asura thief.
