Saying something is optional is sometimes a valid argument. It’s based on downplaying the significance of a situation, but what happens is that this argument runs sideways. If people are being overly dramatic in proportion (ie. GW2 is a terrible game and I’m going to cut myself because of this offense.) then that makes sense. So yes, in many ways it is pointing out a fault in the attitude of the complaint. Indeed, when only AP are at stake, it really does not make sense to blow it out of proportion and it’s really up to the complainer to bring up the significance of it— aka what kind of loss it causes them to suffer, or nobody really cares.

On the other hand “Go play wvw” or [insert alternative here] is a useful bit of advice, but it doesn’t really help the situation. In fact, you’re not even really refuting anything. What one should do is justify the dailies being arranged as such in pve from a gameplay perspective, not deriding people’s abilities to teleport to a ruin.

“Your bananas look moldy!”
“Go buy the apples, you ingrate! "

And yes, I “deal with it”. But dealing with something doesn’t make it right, or immune from criticism.

Not enough +1s to support how you put this.
I “put up with” the dailies, but they don’t enhance my gameplay. They enhance my rewards, but not my gameplay.

Tonics to Outfits. It's time.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I think that they see the problem with having town clothes as outfits under the current system is that your wielded weapon will be displayed. Personally I wouldn’t mind and would start using town clothes again even if this were the case. I wonder how many people think that moving from tonics to outfits would be a backwards step for this reason.

I wouldn’t be bothered by the weapons showing with town-clothes themed outfits. I think the major problem was that people didn’t really use town clothes because they didn’t do anything in combat. (Nevermind that I had a keybind to swap into town clothes, but whatev.. :\)

I’d certainly be up for them re-releasing town clothes as a separate wardrobe, but I don’t see them doing it. The suitable compromise on development time is to recast them as outfits. The dye channels already existed once, so that wouldn’t be so difficult to reassign.

And there’d probably be a market for casual-wear outfits. They’d make bank on a few summer-themed outfits (like Lord Faren~), though something that immersion-threatening might end up as a tonic (Blue Bikini Tonic, for example).

Gathering, tools specifically.
The game dumped in Plains of Ashford, and there were nodes right nearby, but I didn’t have tools. The game told me I needed them, but not where to get them. I’d never clinged to a vendor so hard as when I found the one guy that sold them. Well, the one guy I knew at the time. =P How convenient that every craft vendor has them.

I knew about the discovery system in advance, so that didn’t get me, but it would have if I hadn’t been looking into the game before beta.

In every thread, there’s someone who feels the need (no idea why) to say that something is optional as a solution to every problem. Like duct tape or something. Usually I notice these people make this comment when they have nothing more intelligent to contribute basically.

When you think about it, everything is optional. Even living, so the “it’s optional” is kind of pointless.

Eeehhh, don’t be too kitten ’em, Celtic.

There are some who see the 3 group lists as a complete, balanced set of dailies that reward variable play. I get that. I don’t like ZergVZerg or PvP, so I won’t be doing them unless Double Fractal Day twists my arm.
Even then, I grabbed a buddy and some guildies and did Fractal instead of sloughing through Sparkfly events. Because kitten zone events. I think my buddy might apply to my guild too, so bonus~

In general, I’m happy with the new daily system, it just needs to tweak a few items so as not to screw the mainline PvE group.

It’s pretty garbage, I’ll agree. It still irks me that “Daily Activity” is considered PvE.
It’s not PvE, except during Wintersday’s bell choir. That daily should fall under PvP, to more closely match its play type.

The Daily Activities offered in the regular Dailies does not require participating in Dragonball. You can choose to do the other Activity offered in LA. It may behoove you to do Dragonball, as that would be killing one and one-half birds with one stone, but it certainly isn’t mandatory to fulfill the Daily Activity requirement.

My complaint on that isn’t about Dragon Ball in particular. It’s about the misclassification of “Activity” as PvE, when it largely is not, PvE. It’s a different form of sPvP, and it belongs there instead of trying to substitute itself for actual PvE content.

As it is, at least doing Dragon Ball does neatly kill Daily Activity and one round of two for the Lunar PvP Brawl. (I refuse to call it Festival.)

Best advice is avoid speed-run/zerk groups for dungeons. And don’t be shy about making your own LFGs for “All welcome.” Without the added pressure to be “not a bad,” you can learn the game with others you group with.

Otherwise, you might want to put a little more focus on honing those reflexes. Try to pick up on mob attack patterns and count out the timing. The AI is fairly predictable once you commit to attending. And I don’t mean that as an accusation; people sometimes need a little extra motivation to focus on their enemies and surroundings, like getting hit with that !$#%^ 5-second knockdown for the Nth time. (…personal experience -_-)

Good luck, though.

That bell choir achievement was so tedious…can’t even tell you. But it wasn’t the only grindy Wintersday achievement. There were several, as I recall, but I thought that one was the worst.

I vaguely enjoyed Bell Choir, once or maybe twice in a day. The actual achievement for it? Bunk that. I’m not going to play it for hours for whatever measly AP and loot it would give.

Would You Like 10-Man Raids (Poll)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

It’s interesting to me, the people most engaged in this discussion on both sides seem to have a fair amount of raid experience ><

That’s actually a good thing. Some people did the full raid life and got tired of it. Tired of the progression gear and attunement lockouts and scheduling around 25-40 people. They realize they don’t want it for GW2, because they feel it could damage or split the community without careful consideration.
Others miss that level of synergy and camaraderie with their guildmates when conquering a difficult encounter, and they wish to bring that experience to GW2, along with content recognized as ‘end-game’ by the broader MMO community.

I can certainly respect both sides of the debate. I would hope that GW2 devs could bring instanced raiding to a point where many players would be satisfied, and the idea of an “infinite dungeon” certainly appeals to me as possible raid content or a flexible group size dungeon.

No to flags and roaming PvP.
No to the assumption of only .01%, as made up a “statistic” as 200% or 12.1%. There is no data.
No to the annoyance of waiting for map spawns while people flap at each other.
No to inconsiderate jumping-circles and whispers trying to goad players who never wanted it.
No to the toxicity inherent in PvP.
No to the inevitable forum explosion Q-Q about single class balancing.
No to open-world PvP.

A shrugging “yes, I suppose” to PvP arenas where people can duel with their gear and their builds, instead of sPvP.

How is 3/5 people to kick still in the game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rauderi.8706

Then people will do things to force you to leave.

If you want people to stop griefing in instanced content, you make it so doing so is completely and utterly pointless.

  • Scale rewards to personal progress on the instance, so anyone who joins just before the boss doesn’t get full rewards, only the ones corresponding to the boss fight based on scaling.
  • When players are kicked, instead losing all progress, they are sent to a copy of the instance with the same progress.

And ding, you kick people to get your friend in or to sell the dungeon? Waste of time, your friend won’t get any decent rewards for joining late, just enough to compensate for the time it takes to deal with the boss, and they can still ask friends and guildies to join their copy of the instance so they can finish.

A very even-handed idea. I like it!

I have also find (with regard to the WvW stuff at least), that most enemy maps disregard players grabbing the southern most ruin and ganking guards, etc around there since the realize most people are just there doing dailies and tend to leave people alone.

Not to mention you will find a handful of others doing the same thing, which makes it go faster and lessens the possibility of getting ganked.

I know exactly how the OP feels. I don’t like going to WvW, even if Ruin is one of the dailies. It’s a long, boring walk to get there, assuming the one I’m going to isn’t cap’d by the time I make it. There was an EotM moment where green was getting stomped, so I couldn’t even train-hop. Bad system is bad, no matter how many “bootstraps” people say otherwise. (Edit: As is ANet’s way, the system isn’t bad, it’s just the details and execution that suck.)
[/rant]

Funny story related to Pookie’s comment, though. I was doing my begrudging ruin capture one day, when I saw two red-names on the approach. Thinking “oh kitten, I’m gonna get stomped and have to walk all the way back,” I was dreading it. The capture point was maybe 70% done.
Instead of getting ganked, they waited.
I capped the ruin, waved to them, pressed B, and GTFO’d rather quickly. Daily done.

When the wardrobe system first got its rollout, several fashion pieces weren’t supported. Those became infinite-use tonics, much to the disappointment of many people who invested gems. While refunds were given in a timely fashion (and I’m thankful for that), it’s still a disappointment.

We can’t take them into combat and there are no dye channels. Most regrettably, we can’t mix and match with town clothes, which are also tonics.

This can change, now that we have outfits. Easy-on, easy-off, combat-capable, and dye-customizable, outfits have seen some great support from the design staff. With that in mind, it’s time to allow us to convert those tonics into outfits, so we can use them better.

Oh also, about the ‘poll’, theres multiple levels of self-selection that make it even more meaningless than usual. We’re selecting by people who both go to the official forums and care enough about raids to have an opinion on them. Most people simply don’t care and ignore it either way.

So glad you pointed that out.

As for exclusive rewards, the actual raiders who are into it will do the content only long enough to milk the rewards, and then they’re out. The rest of the players will either lag into it or avoid it entirely. Makes it kind of a waste.

should not be ones that you can passively complete.

That’s a rather unjustified opinion. A lot of the comments above were rather happy with having small goals that could be achieved through normal play. It simply provided extra direction.

As a personal example, if I got Ascalon Event Completion before, I’d pick an alt that was in a suitable level range and go faff about until I got the achievement. But in the meantime, I was exploring the zone, harvesting, hitting POIs and Vistas…

Now, if I get Plains of Ashford, I dread it, bring out an engineer, set up turrets at event circles, and /sleep while occasionally pressing F for loot. I don’t explore, I chore.

I don’t mind directed play. I’m encouraged by it. But when it comes down to a scattered list of chores, I log on, hit them, log off.

For the tl;dw (w=watch, instead of read :P) crowd, the crafting system is needlessly complex while offering insufficient depth of play experience. It’s not as customizable as Wildstar’s, nor it is possible to craft something from scratch like FF14, which also focused on making high-quality products with increased benefits.

Rather, GW2 crafting is rather flat and static. Look up “discovery” recipes, or pay karma (or geodes or crests or…) for recipes at higher crafting level, then make components that serve little (not “no”) purpose other than to be bothersome intermediaries for predetermined stat sets.

It could have been so much better.

Quote from a buddy: “Eh. I find little desire to be in a large group of whiny strangers.”
:)

Granted, I realize it’d be more for medium-sized guilds, or large-large guilds with lots of active players, but that does mean small guilds and small teams lose out.

Increase single target stun duration

Considering my first love is hammer, I wouldn’t mind if it did work better in PvE. The problem isn’t necessarily stun duration, but the cruddy way that Defiance negates its utility in any fight that doesn’t involve tons of critters. Of course, in those fights, if I know they’re coming, I swap to rifle so… yay, ANet?

I want to say yes, but I haven’t done the ones available in WoW, so I can’t say I’d do them in GW2, either.

would you like PVP in PVE

This again?
Dueling arenas, fine. It might even be fun to have a waiting area where people can watch without being flagged.
Open world PvP, no. Just no. Stop. -_-#

Losing your level number in HoT...

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Oh. My God. Not this “concern” again. Is this some sort of joke? Are people just TRYING to ignore facts in some vain attempt to nit-pick at the expansion?

For one, as you SHOULD know by now the removal of the level number will only affect those who are level 80 and working up their mastery points.

Secondly, I call BS on someone needing to know someone’s level in order to help newbies out. I help several new and returning players every day and I have never needed to know someone’s level in order to help them.

Granted HoT content will be strictly lv 80… how will this affect the old stuff like dungeons and what not if the level on nameplates and party side panel are not visible?

Yeah, see, here’s where it is. The only time I’ve ever seen level become a factor in dungeons is when someone is trying to exclude players who are at an appropriate level for the content. You know, the group of 80’s who will kick a level 50 out of their AC run in some ridiculous attempt to make their run go just a little bit faster.

Fortunately for those people, and unfortunately for new players, their level will displayed for all to see, unless they’re level 80, of course.

Yup, totally waiting for the “zerk 15k ap 100 master” LFG ads to show up.
…woo.

Problem with Lack of Communication

IIRC, there were a bunch of suggestions to make the traits to the current system. People felt that just getting traits just by leveling wasn’t fun, and wanted a different way to do it. Like exploring, doing certain events, etc.

So thats why we have the current system. Granted I feel they could have done it a bit differently, but it is what it is, and it was largely based on what the community wanted.

Decent concept, hideous execution. :\
I followed that camp all through the trait debacle, and I’d still be making alts if it had been done differently. There’s 80 pages that explain the rest.

… because they know what the hell they’re doing.

The 10-month kittenstorm about Traits would like a word…

You know, it’s a lot easier to just live your life, and play GW2, rather than spend time out of your life worrying about whether or not the company that’s been successfully running the show for 2.5 years is properly handling their communication efforts.

And you’re worried about his worrying, and I’m worried about your worrying about his worrying, and….

What it really boils down to is parallel to the old adage “Measure twice, cut once.” If they had tested and gotten proper feedback about the Trait system, it could have been adjusted well before release.
The same goes for the updated gem interface. Dozens of pages of angry feedback because they don’t communicate prior to release. Not to say they need to hit the forums with it, but they really need to find some people close to the player community to help vet ideas before they become disastrous.

Traits Part 2

they can make a new threat all they like, as long as we know nothing about specialization it changes nothing and we have nothing to discuss.

I find my cynicism reaching this point as well. :\

I want to be excited for the Mastery system and how it will finally repair my faith in both Traits and the development team, but there have been a lot (a lot) of thoughtless mistakes, and they’re still not fixed. (STILL looking at you, too, gem→gold shortchanger. Still looking at you.)

And no actual details, we can’t participate as players in identifying what may or may not feel good to us. We know very little, so the most we can do is speculate:

Traits are changing in a way that meshes with Masteries.
Masteries are account bound.
So, is it possible trait unlocks via Masteries are account bound? Will veterans mostly bypass the process via their previous acquired map completions, story progress, and achievements?
Saying Yes to that would give many of us a huge comfort, but ANet’s usual no-talk policy won’t let devs and community managers confirm it. :\

That would make sense, hopefully they put out a teaser/update tomorrow.

I personally hope we see 500 jeweler/cooking before the expansion.

There are NO cooking applications for Bloodstone Dust. None.
(Except murdering a grumpy grawl.)

But maybe there ARE cooking applications for other Ascended materials. Dragon(ite) Bash Cake, perhaps?
