99% grousing, in no particular order:

  • Daily tasks are unsatisfactory. Change daily zone events to daily region events and region gatherer/vista to zone gather/vista. DO NOT HAVE DOUBLE FRACTAL DAILY. …ahem.
  • Encounter design: Stop relying on negation as a stall tactic for bosses. Defiance is poorly executed, the addition of the boss status that negates ALL CC is even worse, and any boss with CC over 3 seconds needs a kick in the noogies, so we can have our characters back. And hey, melee is a thing too. Not every fight needs to be ranged.
  • WvW population balance is the reason I don’t go in there.
  • “E-sports”
  • Hammer is a weapon, too. Please support it better.

Good luck with it!

I found it utterly irritating with how slow it was and how wide the NPC range is. Annoying as hell, but one of the more unique heart challenges. I was (almost) glad to see it reprised in Caithe’s memory with LS2.

it’s pointless to ask for a trinity when the game is designed to not have one. it’s like going to subway and asking for your sub in a bento box.

I.. I want them to do this now. ;-;

Really though…

Like many others, I’m glad for no-trinity. And I’ve seen heal-support builds work. Heck, a friend semi-copied my banner-heal into a bunker PvP setting and got compliments for being such a PITA to get off a point. Not optimized, but meh, don’t care.

I think what you may be asking for is for Healing Power to mean something more as a stat. That’s been recognized as a Would Like To See by some in the community. Right now Healing Power is pretty weak, even with heavy investment.

I really wish they’d designed the dungeons for 1 to 5 people. As someone who has resisted “guilding up” for years in MMOs, sometimes I just want to play with friends and not toss the dice on random strangers. As it is, it’s only me and a buddy online nowadays, but we’d have a ball 2-manning dungeons if they were designed for it.

And yeah, I’d be totally down for doing it, even with reduced rewards, because right now, I’m not really doing them at all.

Living Story, success or failure?

As a proof of concept for content delivery: Success.

The actual content.. Not so much.
The writing was lackluster, and so were the characters.

Perhaps the biggest sin in the content releases were how little respect the designers seemed to have for our time. I can understand short, barely-there chapters when pushing out content bi-weekly. That’s not my issue. Rather, the replay value is horrible, since we are forced to endure brain-crippling story and lengthy conversation waits before we can re-try achievements, some of which are excessively easy to fail.

Travel is too expensive? It’s the value of one to three greens per trip, depending on how far you go.

Who vendors greens other than the crazy people who spent 1000’s of gold maxing luck? Let me just put it this way – spending 10-15s to do the “complete 4 events” daily is not even remotely worth it. WP’s should be free within a zone and bring back armor repair – I would accept that compromise.

I vendor green leather gear. Why salvage when the trading post is littered with cheap scraps?

No one is actually claiming that it will be super duper easy. The new system is just there to give people an alternative to RNG or the TP. After all, you can get all the other materials for the legendary completely by yourself, without the aid of the TP.

I meant people as a general term not directed at anyone in particular. What I was implying is that part of the reason for the price drop is that a portion of the game population likely does think it will be easy, and when they realize it won’t be the price will raise back up a bit. [/quote]

Accurate, if somewhat cynical, view of the players. =P
Then again, we’ve seen what passes for “reasonable” achievements from ANet before, so I suppose I lay my cynicism on the developers instead of the players.

Though, I think I might wait just a little to snag a precursor from the trading post. The prices will stabilize with the new adjustment to demand, and they’ll rise as people decide they’d rather farm gold again than chip away at an asinine task list.

QoL for Crafting?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rauderi.8706

Rauderi.8706

It REALLY needs a change. For a supposedly non-grindy mmo, crafting is an unabashed grind. There aren’t crafting activities or anything, just popping mat after mat into crafting, getting the lvl up.

What about quests to get a new material or blueprint? Maybe Crafting Mastery that nets you crafting levels and lets you craft unique items?

<3 you for saying this.

Taking a cue from other games, I was thinking of having a sort of crafting daily quest that could come from the player’s chosen Order or one of the crafting masters. I’m thinking the work flow would go something like:

  1. System scans trading post to find item glut and generates daily quest. (ie, too many Venom Sacs or Tiny Fangs determines crafting tier and necessary inscriptions) Or determine by random shuffle. Or use highest tier attained. Could be anything.
  2. Player goes to crafting master to get a soulbound daily item. Call it Order Sheet or something, and in the item description, it has the requested ingredients.
  3. Player uses that item along with the basic recipe (Hilt, Business End, Inscription/Insignia, Order Sheet) to produce a Custom-Order [Weapon/Armor]
  4. Player turns in Custom-Order item to crafting master in exchange for rewards. (Crafting XP direct boost, money, special token thing, something) The Custom-Order created item could even have unique skins for that crafting type.

Problem:

Fear
Condi cleanse
Second Fear
Third Fear
Fourth Fear
ad nauseum until 90% of the players fighting are back at the missile launcher buckets.

Even if you have 2 or more cleanses, it’s not practical to blow them all on the legion of short-burst fears Claw and similar bosses use.

The same can be said for stability. While it might ignore the entire burst, one time, stability skills have longer cooldowns, so it can’t be countered frequently enough. For all that’s worth, you might as well just suck up the fear each time and find a different skill to mitigate damage or deal more when the shields are down.

I’ll remain cautiously optimistic, with the assumption that the trait system won’t be completely dependent on the Mastery system. I wouldn’t gripe about it if Claw’s fears and knockbacks weren’t constant (slight hyperbole). Heck, a single, long duration fear is begrudgingly acceptable, though I’m of the opinion any hard-disable more than 2 seconds is unsatisfactory. Worse still is ANet’s general reliance on it.

Armor repair has no purpose anymore

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rauderi.8706

Why can’t someone with the appropriate crafting skills fix their own (or anyone else’s) armor?

But but but, one might say, forge! Loom! Hide stretcher! Or whatever those leather guys use…

To which I say thee, nay! If someone who has no armor crafting skills whatsoever can fix their armor — in the field! — with an instant repair kit, then someone who knows what he or she is doing should be able to improvise something, even without a kit. Especially if he or she is an engineer!

So I submit to you, fellow Guild Wars 2ians — armor damage is a detriment to immersion and should be glossed over just like weapon damage (or the lack thereof). Seyla!

Not to be one of those “but this other game has it” moments, but… That’s how FF14 works. It requires a component (that you can mine for) for the convenience, but it definitely gives crafting more purpose.

So far, I haven’t seen any proposal that I would prefer to the current system:

  • There should be some consequence to dying besides waypoint costs.
  • The game shouldn’t become immediately more difficult, since that would discourage experimentation.
  • The penalty should be only as painful as needed to encourage people to be on their toes.

For me, the current system meets those three requirements. I can imagine other systems that would also meet the requirements, but none different enough to make them worth the time/effort to implement.

I generally find the waypoint cost and Walk of Shame back to what you were doing is sufficient demotivation for dying. =P

I do think the armor repair should stay, because of various reasons mentionned above.

But I would prefer if the Death Penalty would make its come back from GW1 to GW2. Maybe like 10% stats reduction per penalty up to maybe 40% and it would clear up by killing mobs and bosses just like in GW1 (or with time) or visiting a town (Grove, Lion’s Arch, etc.) .

That was one of the most poorly designed and illogical choices in GW1.

“Oh look you just died to this enemy. I think you should try to beat it again while you are 10% weaker than before.”

Another reason for armor damage to not be a thing.

Interesting thoughts here. I always think of it as a gentle reminder of my need to use care in what I do. Especially that #%@$ jumping puzzle amongst the trees… at which I died multiple times. You know, “Play more wisely.” I don’t love the runs to the repair NPC, but I don’t resent them.

It’s good to see other players’ thoughts on the matter.

Anyone else find it slightly disturbing that devs don’t know that falling deaths don’t damage armor?

The only time I ever need to repair my armor is in SW… stupid terragriffs and their nonsensical AOE, damage invulnerability, and stacking dmg kill me at least 3 times a play session.

I find it more disturbing that some people don’t realize what a Community Manager is. Definitely not a developer.

Anyway, +1 to all you folks who realize how pointless armor damage is now that there’s no repair cost. It’s another MMO artifact that can go the way of the dodo.

I imagine it’s hard for ANet to take an official stance when it comes to selling dungeons. They’ve been laissez-faire about it. Though they could consider selling dungeon paths as actionable behavior for not using the LFG system as intended, they’ve opted for “at your own risk.”

If anything, I’m more aggravated that they have yet to change LFG to majority-rule kick or creator-leader for dealing with party compositions. When two kittenes can clear out a party mid-run so their friends can do the last boss for loot, even the possibility of that keeps me from doing PUGs.

So this thread is literally about -two- legendaries, The Dreamer and Quip. Let’s be real here. Out of every legendary, out of 19 weapons, 2 are the source of this, eh, I don’t want to say drama but really.

I really do hope they have more eccentric legendaries coming. Why is everyone so hell bent on being dark and cool. Are these the same players with ‘reaper’ ‘dark’ and all other stereotypical manner of character names? That’s what makes these weapons so great, they’re not stereotypical. They break the mold.

It’s not about being ‘dark’ (I loathe captain Dark Tryhard and his army of Evilblack characters), but a call for something that is both cool and sincere.

I’m just glad the Dreamer isn’t a longbow. Could you imagine the absolute irritation of Ranger Longbow 2? neighneighneighneighneighneighneighneighneighneighneighneigh
Followed by NEIGH-Knockback? …I really do hate that bow.

I’d considered getting Juggernaut, but the design is kinda eh, and Hammers don’t get any PvE love, so it’s not even worth making.

“The reward system does not reset if you miss a day. "

I’m now imagining some incredibly evil system where you have log in every day or else you lose your progress. Could you imagine?

Easily. It’s called “Every Facebook game ever.” =P

Order matters when you’re doing a playlist since the game will always apply this order.

It does a random sort after the first song, but always plays the first. The key is to have a blank, short (1-2 sec) piece at the top of the playlist. It will play the ‘nothing’ first, then go right into the random shuffle.

Even better, you get more laurels than you would out of doing dailies. Potentially even more than doing dailies and the monthly (approx 40). 35 (instead of 28) for the full cycle of dailies, with the option to get another 20. I preferred getting the ascended materials, though.

What’s there to fix? The rate is lower in that direction for a reason. It costs more gold to get gems, and more gems to get gold to prevent people from buying gems with gold, waiting for the gem prices to spike, then unload gems for profit.

I don’t mean the currency exchange tax. I mean the truncation of my in-game money that I would theoretically be buying with my real-money gems. Since the new interface, players who actually invest in the game get short-changed (literally). But what got the community up in arms was the ‘nerf’ on their ability to buy premium currency with farmed gold.

If Gnashblade should be coughing up anything, it’s my rounded-down silver.

I quite agree with that sentiment! I do feel as though I have to point out, though…

Those left-over gems they don’t care about. Once you’ve spent the money to get them, they’ve got your money. They don’t care about anything else after that.

Yo se. I know. I get it. Corporate kitteny bullkitten. =P

It’s also why they refuse to fix the gem→gold conversion rate. It’s like they get off on ripping us off. :\

Fire sale on keys, huh?

I approve. I’d actually buy them if they dropped to something more reasonable. Paying absurd amounts of Facebook-game level money for pure RNG chests just doesn’t appeal.
At least a dollar for a lottery ticket could get me thousands of dollars. A buck-fifty in keys gets me a shot at… boosters.
Make it 25 gems per key, and those ‘extra’ gems I have after I buy an outfit might actually get spent.
