“I’m finding companies should sell access to forums,
it seems many like them better than the games they comment on.” -Horrorscope.7632
WoW uses phasing for this stuff nowadays, you are in the same zone as a player precleanse if you are postcleanse but can’t interact/see them in some cases until both are postcleanse (or if both pre).
GW2 can’t do this cuz of events and if they cleansed Orr then no one new would ever see it precleanse anymore lol.
They did hint at a kind of phasing when Kessex Hills was being converted over. Characters below level 25 got one version of the zone, and everyone over 25 got the Living Story steps.
A more intentional “phasing” like the one described earlier in the thread would be a good start. Getting access to a new map with less ugly in it would be nice, for once.
Or at least a new part of Orr where life is returning. …and then hijacked by Mordemoth.
You lose at most the price of a single gem when converting gems to gold.
For instance 100 gold is currently 868 gems. 868 gems according to the commerce API is worth 100 gold and 11.38 silver which makes gems worth 11.53 silver each when converting to gold.
Yeah, about that…
If I’m giving ANet money by using the gems I bought for real money, I shouldn’t be getting the shaft on the exchange rate.
So much pet-hate in these rune sets! /cry
Superior Rune of the Zookeeper (6/6)
*Ranger pet or other NPC ally like Phantasms or Warband Support members.
Superior Rune of Puzzle Jumping(6/6)
(1): +10% Magic Find
(2): Make ‘mario jump’ sounds each time you jump!
(3): +20% Magic Find

Hm, my own take on that, since it intrigues me:
Superior Sigil of the Internet
10% Chance to summon Rick Astley to distract your opponents on crit
Patch: Sigil cannot be removed and is Soulbound on pickup.
It will not give you up.
Is it weird I’m having more fun patching these ideas than making my own? XD
Superior Sigil of Thackery
10% Chance on hit to cast Fear on self
Patch: Upgrades to 100% if you have the Queen Jennah mini. :p
A friend I brought into the game has been considering coming back.
I sheepishly told him not to bother.
The current trait system is at least 50% of that reason I told him not to come back.
(Lackluster crafting and sparse endgame is the rest.)
It’s really depressing that I can no longer recommend GW2 to those I’d want to play it with.
Superior Sigil of the Coward Caller
When using a shout, make every stealthed player on the map log out and uninstall the game.
(Cooldown: 10 sec)
Can I get one of these for WoW? =P
Superior Sigil of “Inspiration”
On weapon swap (cooldown 10 seconds) or every 10 seconds, grants the effect of any other Superior Sigil for 10 seconds. (Stacks change to the new type when changing.)
Because everyone should be like a mesmer.
I thought that this thread would be about the monumental decision asked from us in choosing the rewards for the first mission of this episode.
A bag of Minor Runes or a bag of Minor Sigils? How can one choose between an arm and a leg? Has Anet no mercy?
Yeah, it was a regular Sophie’s Choice, wasn’kitten :\
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sophie's_Choice_
I was actually really ticked by that reward. Level 80s getting a slack minor/green reward? Grr.
(edited by Rauderi.8706)

Patch: Chance of Ban Hammer reduced to 1% to reflect actual infraction rate.
I still don’t understand what the problem is when you can use the mystic forge to get the specific precursor you want. Just because Dawn is behind a RNG wall doesn’t mean you cant get one. Just keep plugging away the rares and exos to get it.
lol you guys.
I know, right? It’s not like RNG is considered fair and balanced™ or anything:

whining about whining. how meta
Don’t mention the word “meta.” That might start a new bout of “whining.”
>_>
Oh, this was another “(no) expansion” thread. I was hoping it was an actual call to be civil. =P
Oh well, back to reading anti-zerk/pro-mount threads.
Sigh.
Nope .. fragile buff only made me knock back whenever i try to attack .. and also with
ranged attacks the mob simply heals up after 2-3 attacks.
Exactly this. For some reason, after I get my shield buff, trying to hustle the Fragile debuff to the vortex crystal just gets me shoved back.
I am a lot of things right now, and none of them happy or good. Severely disappointed.
I think there’s a disconnect between different groups of non-zerk and different groups of full zerk.
With that being said:
- The people playing full zerk want to finish the content as fast as possible and know
what they need to do to not blow up. Not Zerker/ Not Experienced? dont slow them down.
- Zerker has less place in “Open World” PVE/WVW./PVP. All of these modes focus on
team effort / working with players that may be new to the content.
- Zerker has less place in Half and Full Pug Groups. New/pickup players tend to not know what they are doing and will need a slower pace to complete the dungeon.
There’s no reason to jump right into the “LFZerk” parties if you don’t meet them. 99% of the game is available for you to play geared however you want. They’re just fast tracking it to farm, and time is lost if your dps isn’t contributing as much as it possibly can. There’s need for more tanks in Open world/WVW/PVP where support of a specific individual or groups of individuals are important, and movement patterns cant be memorized.
And thus, sigh.
The eternal argument (other than mounts) thus returns to:
If ANet would fix the vote-kick BS, I’d have no problems with #5, so I can, wait for it…
Play how I want.
And thanks, Azure, for following #6.
I was hoping this would work itself out, but it hasn’t, so I would like to mention it.
There are several events in the world boss lineup in particular that it’s nearly impossible to get credit for if you even blink. I have done Maw more often than many others, so I’ll focus on the pre-events for it (Svanir Shaman world boss in Wayfarer Foothills).
Grawl attack Krenneck’s Homestead, protect Scholar Brogun, dragon totem, Defeat the shamans, and close the portals are the events that lead up to the spawn of Maw. All of these should scale according to the number of players in the area. With mobs being weaker due to the trait changes, these guys die in a couple of shots from a level 80, and I’m lucky if I get credit for bronze participation. Spawn more grawl, more help, more portals, and make the totem have significantly more health (when the group demands it). I mean, if you blink, you will miss the dragon totem event. I was shocked to discover that killing the shamans he summoned was an event of its own when I lucked into it one day.
There are many escort events that don’t seem to scale with the crowd at all, and it’s frustrating to miss an event because of the sheer amount of people present. It makes it feel like games with tagging, to be honest, because it’s another kind of competition for kills, instead of cooperation.
This still hasn’t been addressed.
Same goes for Fire Elemental. It’s not only frustrating to not get rewarded, it’s dull to wait a solid minute before a single enemy spawns nearby.
I wonder … Do WoW (or any other MMO for that matter) had forum posts where for example DK’s complained why they can’t use intellect gear to play healers? Or is it some GW2 special thingy with snowflakes and such?
Not so far as I know, but then again WoW forums are even more toxic than these so… I won’t be going there. =P
Thing is, DKs at least get tank role, which is the most sought after.
The ones begging for alternate roles are the pure-DPS classes (Hunter, Warlock, Mage, Rogue), because they’re so often replaceable with other two/three role classes.
And there’s a reason why Trinity exists everywhere else. Some players enjoy healing and tanking. One of my friends hates DPS roles, because of constant ratings and competition. It’s not about being a “special snowflake.” It’s about having multiple styles of play for variety’s sake, and for a long time, GW2 encounters have missed the mark.
All of those NPC necros seem to get to use GS, my necro wants one too! Actually I’d prefer a Great Axe like the executioner axe toy, but I’ll take a GS instead.
Yeah, I had to wonder if Marjory getting the Belinda-ghost greatsword might pave the way for GS-wielding Necros and heralding in new class/weapon combinations.
I doubt it, but I’m bouncy at the thought nonetheless.
Yeeeah, I was wondering about this “fix”. It’s kinda screwing over the people who buy gems to sell for gold. The gold→gem interface got the necessary fix, but the gem→gold side leaves sellers open to some rather sharp rounding errors. Or so I am to believe. I didn’t want to risk having up to a 99 silver truncated on a transaction due to rounding error.
Can anyone confirm or refute how it currently works?
…I want one!
Just imagine, a bigger-than-life Rytlock-sempai to follow me around~
/swoon
I don’t know if I’d go that far. I just think there should be way fewer POI’s. A point of interest should be an actual point of interest with a story behind it.
Or at least have something of interest at that spot. I wouldn’t mind “hidden” POIs that, while they don’t count for map completion, mark places with chests, jumping puzzle entrances, and other goodies so that players remember to visit them.
Probably a boatload of technical limitations in the way, but I think it’s a fun idea nonetheless!
I am smiling at the image of an asura strapped to the back of a charr, hacking away while the charr bulls through hordes of mobs.
End the racism.
I want to see a Charr mount an Asura.
…ohgods, don’t Rule 34 that. Just don’t. I regret it.
A solitary waypoint is.. not so great.
I’d appreciate each of the bases having waypoints. It would give us even more reason to fight for those bases.
I could get behind this if and only if these waypoints required construction through upgrade tiers on the forts – as is the case with actual WvW.
That.. actually sounds kinda fun. o_O
Even without the waypoints, I definitely appreciate Silverwastes much more than DryTop (which needs 50% more waypoints, by the way).
Oddly, it’s not the ZERK ONLY 15K AP PING GEAR thing that gets me. I’m fine making my own groups.
What’s not fine are trolls that will hijack a group with minority kick-votes. That is the thing that keeps me from running dungeons.
A solitary waypoint is.. not so great.
I’d appreciate each of the bases having waypoints. It would give us even more reason to fight for those bases.
I wouldn’t advocate the way the rest of the waypoints are in the rest of GW2. Most of them felt out of place, and they make me wonder, lore-wise, why the Asura would set them up.
Edit: +1 for DiogoSilva
You know full well this would have turned out very differently if a Charr had been in charge. Someone who understands not just commerce, but how to DEFEND what you have gained as well. Someone who understands that wealth and progress means nothing if you cannot defend and protect it.
Someone like Evon Gnashblade.
Don’t blame me. I voted for Gnashblade.
Dare I say it? I’m actually enjoying Silverwastes. Enough that I got distracted from gunning the LS path to wander around. I figured I would, and encourage others to, highlight the good design decision that went into the new zone.
Accessibility
Perhaps the most important thing, Silverwastes is accessible. Unlike Dry Top, it’s not a chore to move around in. So far as I’ve seen, any “jumping puzzle” content is suitably optional. (I will get you, Lost Badge on that cliff!) The map shows what’s going on, and I can make it to events in a timely manner.
Team play
…that isn’t (for lack of a better word) communism. Dry Top’s success tiers weren’t a terrible idea, but it’s inclusive for the entire zone. It’s a minor thing, but having that quasi-WvW feel in Silverwastes is actually interesting, since my contributions are more localized.
Rewards
I know a lot of people are going to be happy with the new armor set, and more importantly, the new armor not being gem store, but something to work for. I’m a little “Eh” on the lack of apparent goals for getting them, but I think I’m on the right track, since I have some of the collection started. And the increased magic find for stomping a mudhole in Mordy’s army is a nice bonus buff. The buff even says that it affects chests~
Google “Goldshire” in Warcraft…
I will never understand what that dump is the center of Alliance dueling. XD
Back on topic (the same topic discussed many times before), dueling has uses in practice and RP type of things, but I don’t think I trust ANet to execute this with the proper amount of forethought, even if I cared about it.
He’s a-kitten -able~
What’s his story? (class, etc)
Welcome to the Legions!
Don’t know why the word was “kitten”
Except that it might make someone
Rawrface for some
Poorly explained reason.
(edited by Rauderi.8706)
Didn’t even get a pillowcase, much less a ghost pup.
RNG is bad and it should feel bad. -_-"
Well, it did get rid of my dander. And my skin. Getting turned into a skeleton will do that for you.
The Dreamer – Critical attacks have a chance to put foes to sleep, making all skills go on cool down.
Nah.
100% chance on hit to grant Fury to surrounding allies. The faster the fight ends, the sooner that stupid horse gets out of their ears.
75% chance on hit to put the user to sleep for five seconds. Surrounding allies breathe a sigh of relief, removing a condition and gaining swiftness (so they can get away from the wielder faster).
It is new then. Stun would work better.
Even better, they should BOW DOWN in the glorious presence of the level up.
Makes it easier to cave their heads in afterward.
As an engineer, I can load up on plenty of CC (I have a short cd one on rifle 4). Why shouldn’t certain types of enemies be able to do the same thing? Why do we players have to be 1000x more powerful than mobs?
edit: and yes, I can do it without noticable dps loss (Big ol’ Bomb is one of the hardest hitting skills in the game)
If it should go both ways, does that mean I can petition to get my hammer a one-hit KO skill?
Hihi, my Necro is an asura dressed in green and orange and has the princess wand and the toy staff and is wearing the toymakers backpack from the first wintersday. =) On the other hand my Ele looks pretty necroish. I love it when my characters don’t fit in the clichés of their class.
I may have actively hated my first necro.
Her name falls on the “tries too kitten hard” of the spectrum, nor is it lore appropriate. I put her in the Wintersday outfit and have actively made my friends cringe with her color palette, the brightest, most gaudy colors I could get. She looked like a madcap Easter egg disaster.
Since hitting 80, I’ve taken her a wee bit more seriously.
TBH, I found Dry Top a bit too much gimmick driven for my taste.
And farming is a great profession. We would starve without them.
Yeah, can’t knock the farming. Keeps my prices down on the trading post, and it can be a great way to zone out in game.
Dry Top just has some hideous feng shui problems. -_-
The economy does benefit the majority of players. Precursors are not the only items in the economy.
Side note: I’m quite happy with the economy as a whole. I’m glad enough to sell my bits and bobs, and in other MMOs, I’ve always been a materials supplier. So yeah, the economy works. I’d hate to see that ruined by a hasty precursor implementation.
That’s the reason for why they have all those control skills, the mobs are designed to engage you, even if you don’t want to engage them.
There are other ways to accomplish that. Take Risen Thralls, for example. They engage by being extremely fast and just bulldogging you. That’s the right way to do it: give the enemies more power rather than taking it away from the player.
Before someone resorts to rhetoric, I’m not saying creatures shouldn’t have CC. But it should come at a cost like it does the player. Instead of 5 mummies with the same abilities, have one in the group that uses CC but in return does not put out much damage. Then you get neat things like tactics. (am I able to break CC enough to ignore the CC guy and reduce the heavy hitters or do we need to focus the CC guy ASAP?)
Also, it seems there’s a lot of “I can beat it, therefore it’s fine”mentality. OP didn’t say it was unbeatable, he said it was overused, and I agree. Stop the measuring contest, it helps no one.
Also arguing whether or not the labyrinth can be navigated solo is not the topic. Just saying.
Thiiiiis. Sorry, I couldn’t put it more elegantly, but this has been a major-minor gripe about GW2 for me for a long while. I can beat the mobs when they come up (in Labyrinth I’m usually taking on several enemies at a time), but it’s just irritating that certain enemies not only spam it as the first thing they do (did they learn this from bearbows, I wonder?), but often times the enemies have it in a superior fashion to players.
I know I’d love to have a 3-5 second knockdown on a 20-second cooldown. (hint, hammer, hint)
From a game design sense, taking control away from a player for more than a second or two is just bad.
I shoot Snowy Owls without hesitation, then imagine Harry Potter not getting his mail.
Yeah, that doesn’t quite work very well for, say, the Labirynth, where literally every mob has a push/pull/root on a stupidly short cooldown.
We’re totally cool to help you level and whatnot. I’ll tip my horns at ya if I see you around.
- I secretly hate people who have Bifrost, because they’re making my Bifrost less special.
I actively hate people with The Dreamer and wish I could shove a life-sized Rainbow Dash up their hind parts.
Barring that, I at least wish they would get a feedback loop with that Six-forsaken noise in their ears for all eternity. -_-
Try as I might, I am not always a nice person. >_>
And yes, I don’t care about the impact.
This sums up all the arguments for change. Some players feel they deserve everything NOW, regardless of the consequences. There’s a term for this, but it escapes me at the moment…
False generalization? Taking an anecdote as evidence of the population?
Ohoni may have stated (many times) about not caring about the economic impact. That doesn’t mean the entire argument is invalid, nor does it mean proponents want to see the economy crash and burn just so that everyone has their shinies.
Thanks. but nah; still incredibly boring.
Not just boring, it’s a mess to travel in. I’d feel a lot more compelled to get there and help out if every inch of it didn’t feel like a jumping puzzle.
It’s not just a farm, it’s a chore.
- I love this thread and always smile when I see it back on the first page of the forums
- I wish I had a second account to use to post my true confessions. I’m not brave enough to confess things in a non anonymous way. More power to you all!
You could pass the confessions off to someone else, and they could ghost-confess for you~
Tinfoil Hat: I sincerely believe the entire Council in Rata Sum are members of the Inquest.
It’s real easy.
My buddy and I just get together somewhere around 8-9pm Eastern, and dither about for 2 or 3 hours. I certainly wouldn’t mind forming a “strike team” if there’s enough people to tackle dungeons and fractals. Y’know, all casual-like.
A person I play with has tanking/healing gear on his guardian, I use Zerker. When he dies during a dungeon and I don’t, I secretly am laughing.
(It’s different when I die and he doesn’t. I have Zerker gear and he doesn’t so it’s ok if I die).
At that point, I think you’re allowed a quiet snicker.
Confession: I play bearbow.
…but it’s with shortbow, so it doesn’t count. =P (Really though, stop with the longbow 4. -_-)
