Ele & thief main (full ascended)
Down with the braindead faceroll classes.
Yes, it’s 7k when you stack. In intended situations, when people don’t stack, it’s much less. Plus, you don’t go deep in fire for power stats, that’s just a bonus.
This conversation reminds of me conversations with people using ptv + ah + staff as guardians. It works but there’s absolutely no reason to use it, especially on scales below 40.
So which adept and master fire traits are so amazing in pve? I can’t find them.
Compare to the Elementalist Trait which also Increases Damage to Bleeding targets as well.
There’s your answer.

CONDI ELE SO OP MANG
MUST HAVE TRAIT 10/10 WOULD GO 30 IN EARTH
Post like this lead me to believe soon enough Ele players, will have the old Warrior attitude, that the warrior sub forum had. The cycle is repeating itself.
How so, mr. heavy player? Condition elementalist isn’t remotely viable, not even in pve. I found it laughable how that warrior fanboy brought up that random trait in his defense as if it was supposed to mean anything, or as if any decent ele used it.
Edit: just noticed that he also called necro’s fear a “dot”.
(edited by Razor.6392)
Somebody has severely underestimated the damage a single churning earth can do….
Churning earth is very situational to use, and should never be used against a thief who can easily dodge/blind/interrupt you after getting 3s of free dps.
Heartseeker is very situational to use, and should never be used against anyone who can easily defend themselves in anyway after getting guaranteed shots against a thief who isn’t dodging or blinding.
Seriously, churning earth can easily hit for 15k PER target once you count the bleeds… Just pointing out how absurd the comparison is
Edit: here’s a hint—auto attack chain does more DPS than heartseeker
You talk about absurd comparisons and you bring up autoattack chain? How is a sequence of 4-5 attacks comparable to 1 spammable nuke with a gap closer attached?
Healing in pve is pretty much pointless unless you have some additional toughness. What does ~1400 heal give you?
Secondly, fresh air is very strong with dagger as its air autoattack is simply way above anything else (maybe except fireball but it’s just clunky to use in melee). Of course, with 30 arcana, attunement recharge is low enough to ignore fresh air but that’s actually fresh air advantage, that you don’t have to go deep in arcana. The benefit of fresh air in pve isn’t scepter single attacks but cleaving of autoattack.
It’s an aoe heal so let’s pretend it’s a 7k heal.
Same goes to evasive arcana in water att.
I still have over 100% crit dmg so the numbers are there. Really not having a bonus 200 power isn’t that bad when you realize that the bonus might stacks from arcana (evasive, elemental attunement) plus the higher uptime due to boon duration makes up for it quite nicely.
I used to run 0/30/0/10/30 at one point but the lack of healing ripple kinda bothers me.
I’d do it in pve but like I said it kinda throws me off being used to have a certain ability / passive in spvp and not in pve.
If there was a good grandmaster trait in air maybe I would do it again. Fresh air is best used with scepter, average with dagger mh and terrible with staff.
1. Elementalist weapon swap. don’t care if it doesn’t work while in combat. It’s a pain to have to manually do it everytime.
2. Dueling anywhere, even inside instances.
3. Give some sort of wvw / spvp goals to guilds, making it possible to have a NA / EU guild ladder (or world specific, or both) based on something. And then rewards / customization based on that.
4. Voice packs. Don’t care if the cutscenes are forever disabled or muted for my character.
5. Reduce effectiveness of zerging in wvw somehow.
Doesn’t matter the condi classes can just rip your boons off lol
such balance xdxdxd
Fire line offers much more than arcana. You don’t really need lingering elements, arcane precision and elemental attunement. 10 points in arcana should be the most you’d ever need.
I don’t like anything about the fire trait line. And 100-200 raw power isn’t enough for me to take it.
Auto cleansing fire does seem nice for pvp though… but I love my elemental attunement.
edit: and of course the boon duration.
(edited by Razor.6392)
I’m not sure why would you. This trait after removal of unintended blast finishers is quite weak in pve.
I dislike using different sets for pve and spvp. It confuses me.
Tbh I do plenty of damage as it is and bonus might stacks / aoe blind / aoe heal can be useful in pve.
I mean it’s either that or 30 in air again. I only miss fresh air for the times I equipped my scepter in pve but now I rarely do so yeah…

Absolutely nothing.
So did you submit your video in that contest?
I leveled to 500 tailor on release day when both silk and linen were absurdly cheap. I wonder how screwed people are nowadays…
60$ for the game.
That’s it. In almost 2 years I haven’t bought a single gem for usd.
Eles have no room for error in pvp and while they can win they need twice the effort compared to a brainless warrior.
And if their opponents are in fact skilled it gets even more complicated. A good thief is a nightmare to deal with, same goes with necros or engineers.
(edited by Razor.6392)
Dodge roll into fire trail? I didn’t think people still used evasive arcana. After all, blast finishers were unintended.
Yeah… after doing 0/30/0/20/20 for a while, I’ve gone back to evasive arcana.
Actually, the grubs are the ONLY issue in higher level fractals. At 70+ the grubs will wipe you incredibly fast if you don’t have reflect uptime.
Exactly! This particular boss in Fractals 30 and under is a joke. With a staff, I can safely attack the boss at range. When he’s bubbled, I usually close into the spot where the reflection is up, tank the grubs for a bit inside wall of reflection or shield of the avenger, help peel the bubble and then aoe wipe the grubs with meteor shower and ice bow. All of these actions are possible thank to the fact that grubs don’t hit as hard and fast so some of us can leave our protection for a bit to melee and peel the bubble.
At level 50, I find the grubs spike hard; they can three-shot a party member, move to the next one and subsequently wipe the whole party. Especially when the party spreads out, it makes it even harder to clear the grubs. But when we focus to clear the grubs to prevent wipe, we don’t peel the bubble fast enough, and the fight becomes increasingly frustrating.
Our party usually has a guardian, a mesmer, a necro, me as ele and a pug. Both mesmer and necro are not skilled enough to melee, but they are excellent at providing aoe support and help clear the grubs. Pug is unreliable at all times. This leaves the guardian and me to focus on the boss first and clear the grubs later. So I notice that staff doesn’t work in a situation that the pug is useless in meleeing and cleaving (short bow thief, rifle warrior, staff-camping guard). We neither kill the grubs nor peel the bubble fast enough.
When using D/F as suggested, I find that since I’m already in melee range, I don’t waste time to close into him when he is bubbled. It gives me a bit of advantage to control the surrounding. Secondly, Reaper of Grenth chills the boss and tags the grubs. Thirdly, I can spare Swirling Wind and Obsidian Flesh to when I use Ice bow to finish the grubs. So what I did, abeit not skillfully and had to rally myself two times of the grubs:
- Pop Reaper of Grenth
- Attack the bubble (Lightning Whip)1, Arcane shield when hit by the grubs
- Move between Reflections and Shield of Avenger when they are up to peel the bubble
- Cleave the grubs in the process
- Bubble down, boss enraged. It is almost guaranteed that he will bombard the safe spot.
- Dodge out, swirling wind, ice bow, aoe 4, 3.
- At this point, I was down, bc I’m outside the protection of the others’ reflection.
- Rally, Obsidian Flesh, Ring of Earth, Air attunement… and down again >.>
- Rally, Arcane Shield, Swirling wind, and keep kamikaze the remaining grubs while getting harassed by the boss [x . x]
Good thing: rally fast
Bad thing: if I don’t keep the grubs off me, they can kill me faster than the speed at which I’m rallying. So I’m still looking for how to improve this encounter. Thank you very much for all the feedback
d/f is good but way unforgiving for the kind of help that you’re looking for.
why aren’t you casting swirling winds before #1?
I would ice bow at the very beginning, right after casting swirling winds. Then use that elite that you seem to love so much. (I would take an earth elemental instead, or FGS if I feel confident with that pug).
After I cast ice bow #4, I would still be in air attunement so I would shocking aura for fury and cleave the leftover trash mobs (maybe lightning touch if I have time). fire → fire aura → Burning speed after that then switch earth (or use fire 2 if I have time, then switch earth) dodge roll into the fire trail + earth 4 to also reflect the projectiles from the leftover grubs.
But then again… I prefer to use staff.
Taimi
.
I doubt they’ll buff it. It’s already frustrating to deal with it when you don’t have a cc available in those 3.5 seconds.
If they reduce the counterplay window they’ll need to nerf the condi removal / heal or it would be overpowered.
Saying that ER is garbage implies that the other heals are better. Which is just not true. Glyph sucks and signet can be decent if it wasn’t so useless in multiple situations involving conditions.
Edit: Forgot about arcane brilliance but it’s ok because it’s not even worth mentioning.
(edited by Razor.6392)
Ether renewal is great fyi.
Until people learn to interrupt it or DPS harder during it because you can’t dodge.
Not everyone has disables on demand. Also armor of earth helps for that one time where you must not get interrupted no matter what.
Sorry. Everybody uses that “armor of earth” BS.
No. Ether renewal is utter crap for a large scale fight. It can be OK for dueling, and if you have rock solid sure you can arrange it so it heals you OK. But the 3 seconds you’re not pressuring is just a groove killer. Good luck stacking might.
Oh and when a good player comes around (yes every class has CC in their wep sets) you won’t get that heal when you need it.
It’s the other way around for me. ER is bad for dueling because people only have to focus on one target to cancel the heal. It’s more noticeable and easier to pull off as opposed to doing it in a huge zerg.
I always use ER though I admit that in some situations the signet would be better. I find ER better in general however. I can’t count how many times it has saved me from multiple conditions being spammed on me.
It has counterplay, yes. But that’s better than simply being a sitting duck whenever you get more than 3 conditions at once. Also not everyone runs 30 in water.
Double tap to dodge
Profession skills: F1 F2 F3 F4
12345-ERXCV (v = elite)
Instant aoe cast (was forced to because of ele’s Arcane Wave changes)
Up arrow to afk run forward
Click mouse wheel to look behind (although I rarely remember to use it)
Everything else is default.
Aren’t there other 4 party members to remove the stacks though? Why should eles, the class with the highest aoe damage in the game, be the ones to do it?
I assume the grubs aren’t a huge issue in higher level fractals…
(edited by Razor.6392)
I’ve been around cursed shore for like a week and have never seen it start. Once I guested to blackgate and it seemed like it would begin but then it automatically switched to “The pact is strategizing at meddler’s summit”.
Used to S/D for some reason. I think it was because air 1 allowed me to easily move while hitting it (also fresh air).
Now I use staff in that fractal (+ ice bow). Using meteor right as it hits the %hp threshold that spawns elementals and then using magnetic aura / ice bow 4 gets rid of most of the trash while also destroying his bubble at the same time. Extremely safe too.
Using dagger is just a no for me. Having to basically melee range it would mean a much lower dodge window for the shaman’s projectiles.
Granted the highest scale I’ve done this fractal is 39… but I don’t think most of the mechanics change other than higher HP and damage, right?
Scepter focus could also work for survivability. But that weapon set lacks SO much reliable AoE damage it’s not even funny.
Edit: Well apparently I learned something new today. To my credit at least the aoe quickly removes the grubs, by far the deadliest threat in that part.
(edited by Razor.6392)
I play ele myself and think its funny sometimes but to be honest, it’s a terrible overpowered exploit and it should be fixed…
Nah .
l2p issue bro
I heard that they ban when people purposefully fail the events but I could be wrong.
I don’t quite appreciate having each scrap go for 5-6s at the TP.

1. Make every grandmaster trait well worth it (looking at puissance, powerful aura, tempest defense, diamond skin, elemental surge. etc. mainly)
2. Buff certain abilities. (gale, flamewall, water focus #4, lightning surge, dagger fire autoattack, earth dagger autoattack, every scepter autoattack, shatterstone, fire grab, etc.). Some need cooldown buffs, others need cast time buffs, others need usability buffs and others need complete revamps or dramatically increased numbers.
3. Buff the elemental elite and delete tornado. add a new one (Idea: refresh all attunements cds and also reduce all the attunement cooldown by 100% for 8 seconds).
4. Revert RtL to 20 seconds CD but change its functionality into a normal charge. Let it be affected by chills and cripple and don’t block ele’s healing and utility bar while casting it.
5. Chill doesn’t affect the cooldown recharge rate.
6. Some other traits need fixing, but I won’t go in depth.
I mean I haven’t gone in depth in any of the previous ones either, it’s just too complex to propose changes without revamping the class to my liking, and I don’t wanna do that either.
To be honest, the class is so bad my buddy, who loves playing traditional mages, has left the game in disgust.
The class isn’t bad. It just takes more finesse than the other ones. Eles have the least room for error out of any class in the game. I think it would go like this:
Which classes are allowed to blatantly mess up, and get away with it?
1. Warrior
2. Thief
3. Guardian
4. Engineer
5. Necromancer
6. Mesmer
7. Ranger
8. Elementalist

Delete Inscription? One of the few traits that make using Glyphs worthwhile? No thanks. Without that Trait Glyphs are useless. I think it should also be in Adapt, After all the cool downs the Glyphs have and make it bit of competition for the glyph reduction trait – of course i think Glyphs would need to be buffed as well.
Because without the trait they are all rather weak, with the trait they are nothing more than average.
In soon to be 2 years of gw2, I’ve never found myself using inscription even once.
Bolt to the heart, % cooldown reduction on air, 10% damage on air, bonus crit damage after arcane and even quick glyphs have always been better even on those situational uses.
Maybe not delete it but put it into adept, then delete one with air or healing precision.
people still run 0/10/0/30/30?
20% is a bit much for the proc, thief war evicorate, necro life blast, els fire grab/ drag tooth are only class i can see that can do 20% in 1 hit with out major survivability penalties. hundred blades counts as many attacks so does necro axe #2 and alot of others. most proc skills are 10% for this reason.
Keep in mind that it’s 20% of CURRENT health. THis would mean, you’ll be blocking a lot of attacks when you are quite low on health!
Put Haste somewhere in the air trait line. It makes sense because lightning is quick!
Nerf tempest defense and send it to the 2nd trait line (delete inscription).
[Trait]
Gain 1.5 seconds of haste everytime you gain swiftness (no internal cooldown).Grandmaster trait, done.
Balanced because 1. can’t get fresh air with it and 2. requires elemental attunement to be most effective. (so 20 in arcana)
This seems like a nice idea, with the quickness, but I think it would have to have an internal cooldown to not be OP. almost all quickness skills have 10% quickness uptime with downsides, so this should too. I think quickness can be very beneficial to eles with some long, telegraphed skills, but at the same time very hard to balance for the devs for the same reason. So I think your idea is not very realistic
Hmm, true. Maybe a can’t cure conditions debuff?
Also add: Can only gain Quickness from self casted swiftness. Swiftness gained from other nearby allies don’t count.

I know, yes I was talking about #4. I just discovered it.
Wow is all I got to say.
Was it always like this? Or were the skills buffed at some point?
(Not talking about casting-while-moving buff)
Does it exist, and if it does how does it work?
I remember reading that might stacking is more beneficial to characters with low power (or cond damage) since it would scale better.
Does that also apply to the other stats, like precision (and soon ferocity)?
or until Taimi decides she wants to take over?
I’m all for Taimi taking over. I wouldn’t mind having the whole Tyria bow down to their new tiny cute overlord.
Mix-n-match is the way to go.
1st set:

Masquerade boots
Student gloves
I see, she’s very cute indeed.
A female asura with a robot at gendarran, by the southsun cove gate.
First, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that haircut. Is it available?
Second, that portrait looks like it was carefully drawn, different to any other that I’ve seen before.
Is there anything special about her? Please correct me if I’m wrong about my #1 and #2 points because I haven’t played in a while.
Sorry but no. Warriors gaining a lot of ehp by doing NOTHING is not good design.
The skill needs to get nerfed to oblivion, or the passive healing needs to have a special condition attached to it.
Either make it scale on adrenaline (only getting 400hp at full) or nerf its base and buff the healing power ratio. Eles and thieves have signets that also heal but at least those need you to do something, not to mention that the healing they get is about 50% less than warriors AND they’re extremely squishy on top of that, so the effective hp they get out of it is minimal.
I defragged it, but nothing changed. Still flat 40 seconds to start gw2.
Looking at the elementalist changes was enough for me to know that these are fake. It’s obvious that the guy doesn’t know anything about balance.
10% reduced condition duration when using magnetic aura… lmfao.
It would be hilarious if these patch notes would be indeed true..:) But Anet can change it (if it’s really true) for the sake of changing then.
I doubt it. I would have a hard time believing it or I would be shocked if I read them before I saw this thread.
I mean, is he purposefully trying to act like ANet when adding useless stuff to abilities so people stop complaining about those abilities being weak? The changes don’t even make sense.
Of course some changes are happening, like OP said, he mixed them with changes that were already announced (evasion on burning speed, blast finisher on frozen burst, etc).

Buffing elemental attunement out of ALL the things.
Giving 1 extra second burn on flamewall and calling it a day.
Removing the CD off Cleansing Water on spvp LOL. It was added because of spvp, genius.
If you’re reading this, don’t quit your day job. You suck at balancing even if it’s just wishful thinking.
(edited by Razor.6392)
Honestly this could be a somewhat decent trait, since one of the big reasons why eles don’t like going full glass is to avoid being insta gibbed by a stealth user. They will still die to a breeze and fire will still be lacking in survivability, but at least have a way to counter the back stab other than pray you hit with aoe.
No. It’s a horribly designed trait. Words cannot express how bad it is.
A grandmaster trait must impact a class’ gameplay. They must be significant, feel rewarding and be effective in multiple scenarios.
This trait is not only situational, but it also does it’s job extremely poorly. So what if you cancelled their stealth when attuning to fire? You can’t do it again for 9 seconds minimum, and they can still damage you (especially mesmers). Not to mention how they can re-stealth much faster than you can de-stealth them.
I already said this but against the other 6 classes, even against eles this trait would be complete trash. Even more situational for revealing enemies that are ocasionally stealthed by mesmers or thieves.
You gotta understand that eles are known to work the way they do because of their reliance on water and on second place arcana. It’s as if some traits were already engraved into eles gameplay. If you plan on giving those traits up, then the reward / tradeoff should at the very least come on par. You lose a LOT of defense and survivability (even damage), then you should get a lot of power in return, or at least something other than a pathetic and situational reveal.
Sorry but I don’t think any decent elementalist could rate this trait idea as ‘mediocre’, not even that adjective would cut it.
No good mesmers will have this ability on their skill bar.
ftfy
This guy doesn’t get it.
Au contraire, I just disagree with you and the reasoning you’ve used thus far is unconvincing. I’m willing to discuss it further, of course.
You are pretty much going against a design standard in gw2’s skills. I don’t think there’s much left to discuss.
Inconsistency in design is terrible, just like bandaid fixes. It’s like having only 1 of thieves’ abilities grant a reduced “revealed” debuff after you attack someone, or having only 1 signet in any class (say, mesmers) that gets to keep its passive after using the active (without traits or anything), just because that class needed a buff.
Never go against your design principles. Every single heal ability in the game has a cast time and that’s it.
I mean new as in it only has almost 2 years of use.
I know it’s outdated by today’s standards. Anyway ty for the suggestions.
This guy doesn’t get it.
Well, pretty much the whole system, but what I suspect having the most impact is your HDD. Based on your other specs I suspect it’s quite old and 85% full means it’s starting to slow down. Have you defragmented it lately and deleted unnecessary files? My suggestion is buy another hard drive, 500GB-1TB or even more, better yet buy an SSD and you’ll be blown away. Loading to Lion’s Arch (or when it was still possible) takes 12 seconds and PvE maps takes 5 now.
On the other hand your system is maybe 5-6 years old so pairing some sweet new high-end technology with that is like painting racing stripes on a snail, but it’s a good start and you can carry it on to your possible (and eventual, at some point) bigger system upgrade. At least check your motherboard’s compability with the new drive, be it an SSD or a normal hard drive.
My system isn’t old. Pretty much all the components were bought before this game release since they were the best I could afford at that time (sept 2012). The mobo and ram were recent, Q4 2013 if I’m not wrong (had to reinstall OS for that too).
Pretty much the reason why my hdd is so full is because I have a lot of fraps clips from other game.
I’ll go with the hard drive defrag, even tho my C partition is new I don’t think I’ve defrag’d my D in ages.
