It would be like this, but instead of cute, it would be some multicolored eye-burn.
*cough*Tengu*cough*
I say anything that makes me look like a majestic butterfly is a plus. So +1 to the OP.
As a Ranger, I remember this happened to us some time ago. It was a weird feeling, for sure.
So uninstall this too – this game is balanced around the idea that Elite specs are the new thing and if you’re not going to pay you’re going to be underpowered. Your team will rage at you and for good reason.
Almost all ( if not all ) elite specs are clear upgrades over the classic core classes – so you’re holding your team back if you don’t have elite specs.
Elite specs will eventually be free for all, but it will take a long time (1-2 years)
Previously, you would have began in Amber. This patch is still an improvement.
Simply put, it is not my obligation nor responsibility to teach new players or grow the PvP community. I play games for myself. If my team chooses not to read chat, then I choose not to play. I have no obligation to waste 15 minutes of my time to play in an unwinnable matchup to ensure my teammates don’t feel bad.
If anything, it is Anet’s responsibility to ensure equal matchups that result in fun games, good balance, and that itself will grow PvP. It’s not like LoL became the number one most played PvP game in the world from having a carebear community.
And they’ve learned from that game. The necro (according to OP) told them ““Let me tell you something, I’m not playing for a moron team that all goes home”.
They have learned that a moron team that all goes home will result in an AFK. Next time, don’t do that. And it’s their responsibility to read up on guides (which are everywhere) to figure out why.
No one took me aside and hand held me through PvP. Hell, I got told to uninstall when I first started playing. No biggie, I went off and “got gud”. Read guides, watched streams, dueled in arenas. I just added those players to my block list and made an effort to kill them if I ever faced against them.
I’m sorry you feel that way. And I’m sorry you got told to uninstall, I’m sure that contributed to your current ideology. I will not pressure you further if that is how you wish to remain. I can only hope you one day care for others as much as you do yourself.

Weed out people who have been abusing the stronger builds these past few seasons. No more merc’s ammy, necro and mes have been nerfed. People who got to legend riding a easy build from metabattle are going to have a much harder time this season.
Druid got hit pretty hard too. So there will be less sustain running around. Scrappers probably still hold well, though.
Razor – I get what you are saying but when they made the mental choice of not switching out and running that comp – that basically mean they wanted to lose. I won’t waste time for their sake.
Isn’t waiting at start for the match to end inherently a waste of time as well? :\
it is but at least I can tab out and watch youtube.
That response is incredibly self-centered. You clearly don’t care about anyone unless they are of detriment to you. I implore you to reconsider your position — if only for the reward of a less-sucky future of PvP.
Razor – I get what you are saying but when they made the mental choice of not switching out and running that comp – that basically mean they wanted to lose. I won’t waste time for their sake.

Those 3 players made that choice when one guy called home and they didn’t listen and followed him. If that’s not a sure sign of surrender, I’m not sure what is.
Here, I’ll explain; surrender works like this:
necro – “that was a horrible opening. There is no way we can pull through from this. Do you guys want to scrap this game?”
possible response 1 – “Sure, let’s suicide”
possible response 2 – “No, I think we can pull through with this, let’s give it a shot.”
possible response 3 – “. . .”
If 2 or more people go with 1, then that is an agreement to suicide.
If 3 or more people go with 2, then that is an agreement to continue.
If 3 or more people go with 3, then they are chat-blind, but not in agreement for either 1 or 2. Therefore, in accordance with common courtesy, a default option 1.
But why do they deserve to be carried to a win? Why should one player shoulder the burden of 3 (4?) players and hard carry them to a victory they don’t deserve? By doing that, he’s artificially boosting up their MMR and will screw over whatever next team they end up on.
That is thinking inversely. It is not that they deserve to be carried to a win, rather, it is that everyone is responsible for doing what they can upon entering a game they queue’d for. If what they are able to do is kitteny, that is just the way the die roll, but to give up and go afk doesn’t help anyone. What is truly screwing over the next team’s MMR is not bothering to explain what went wrong and what to do better to the perpetrators in a constructive and non-bashing way. I can agree that, if nothing is going to stop you from leaving the entrance, at least use that time doing nothing to do something through sportsmanship guidance and explanation.
Actions have consequences. They made a bad choice by ignoring their team chat and initial strategy, now they live with the consequence. Next time, don’t 4 cap home. If they can’t mentally handle fact that poor choices will lead to poor results, they shouldn’t be playing a competitive game at all.
It is true that actions have consequences, but that is irrelevant for this discussion — because we can choose these consequences. It is in that choice that we are currently debating. You can’t very well say that they are 4-capping home because they don’t understand that poor choices lead to poor results. Honestly, I believe nearly everyone knows that. However, it is far more likely that they don’t understand that 4 capping home is a poor choice. Their lack of understanding is likely due to nobody ever bothering to explain to them constructively.
Think about it from their ignorant perspective for a moment:
If they see someone remaining at start, are they really going to question themselves on their own ability, or personally blame their failure on the one who didn’t play?
That even goes for someone who plays, but gives advice poorly in the form of name-calling/bashing. If they are called worthless noobs/trash/idiots/etc… are they more likely to listen to said advice, ignore it, or grow defensive and cast it aside entirely?
At the end of the day, growing and maintaining our PvP community is everyone’s responsibility; it is mine as much as yours. We have to understand how to do so in a constructive manner. Taking the knee-jerk approach of afk-ing will only lead to more negativity and inexperienced noobs.
The Necro did the exact right thing.
[Insert buzzer] Wrong answer, try again.
I rather that happen, than have them try to play. I’ve had one such match already, where I’m tanking 3 guys at home while the rest of my team dies to 2 guys.
It sucks that they die, but if they weren’t there to act as prime-meat, you would likely have to be taking 4-5 guys. Think you could do that?
Yeah, the necro helped his team by putting them out of their misery faster and saving everyone some time.
OP didn’t even realize he had 3 people following him home until the enemy crossed to contest. That means they were 4 capping home. How do you not noticed a 4 cap home from the start? It’s right there on the mini map?
At that point, you’re gambling on the other team being worse than yours. And at that point, who would WANT to carry that? Assuming the necro had the capability to carry that match, he’s doing the ENTIRE PvP community a favor by taking a hit to his personal MMR to spare the rest of us 3 home cappers rising in theirs.
We should be commending his sacrifice.
If “putting them out of their misery faster and saving everyone some time” is the goal, why not just ask in chat if everyone wants to “give up”? If the majority replies with “yes,” then you can all agree to a suicide. However, to make that choice for your team is irresponsible.
I don’t care how you spin it, what that necro did is no “favor to the PvP community.” If he would have helped, maybe they could have won? I mean, they probably wouldn’t have, but it’s better to take that chance.
Bottom line:
*If you go to play a game — and the spot you are taking up is irreplaceable by anyone else — then kitten play it.
Otherwise, stay out of pvp if you can’t mentally handle failure.
As for those who went home mindlessly, I personally would have whispered them to let them know that is a poor practice and explain why. I’m not saying that any of you guys have to do that, but if someone doesn’t tell them they are going to just continue being dumb in other games.
I seriously can’t grasp the mindset some of these repliers have.
“I feel bad for that necro player”
“Why would you want to report the only decent guy on your team?”
Seriously?
You are not decent for doing nothing. I don’t care if the team had a crummy opening, to just give up that moment is pitiful. I have been in plenty of games that turn around with persistence from everyone. If he/she is tired of playing with moronic teams, they should get out of solo-queuing and/or make their own team.
To just “afk” is only adding to the negativity. As far as common courtesy goes, and due to the inability for new players to join mid-game, if you join a game you are committed to helping your team.
You must always travel with a towel, everyone knows that.

Ug, you beat me to it xD
Most of this price increase revolves around players that are pushing the value up due to the players willingness to pay more. If players are willing to pay more for an item, it’s going to keep increasing until eventually it hits a ceiling for the commodity. We’ve seen the same thing occur with numerous commodities over time.
Right now there is a consistent supply of mystic coins entering the game (way more than are being consumed) and churning through the trading post at a very slow rate. Most of the coins on the market are ones that have been flipped.
In retrospect, this is actually causing the daily login reward to be worth significantly more to players who wish to convert mystic coins to gold.
Chris, the economy is getting out of hand. Casual players like myself are being left behind, unable to fully enjoy game content. You NEED to consider all players, not just full timers playing 4-8 hours a day. Casual players want to craft stuff too. Casual players want to get into fractals and Raids too. I cant earn enough gold to enjoy this game anymore.
This is the only game I’ve ever played that made me feel bad when I play I ‘feel’ poor which is a horrible feeling. Too much pressure to earn gold. I feel a pressure to grind gold 6 out 7 days a week. I cant “earn” anything. I can only grind gold and buy materials at inflated prices. Guild Wars 2 feels like work now. Actually, its worse than real work cause I get nothing tangible like money. Arena Net’s screwing around with drop rates and recipes has been a disaster for casual and new player. I don’t have hope either. I dont think I’ll be logging in anymore. Womp Womp.
Exaggerate much? Mystic coins are not even as much as t6 blood and you need them only in small quantities for the casual skins.
On top of that, if anything, it is the casual players who are earning more than before due to mystic coin inflation. Most casuals, I’d imagine, don’t use their mystic coins in recipes.
Literally, every single time I see ranger in the patch notes, its never a slight shave to an overpowered skill. It’s a kittening nerf hammer on any skill that actually works well…
How many times have pets been nerfed so far?
How about reduce the healing on CA 2 and 3 instead of the condition clear (which is much more important), cooldown, and effects.
And just for the record, pets are still useless and die quickly in large scale WvW.
I really kittening hate the patches because nothing ever goes well for ranger. Disappointed again.
Core ranger is terrible. Pets are terrible. Druid is terrible. CA is terrible… Tons of things on other professions are terrible. Roles are terrible. Support roles are terrible… Professions in this game are completely carried by freedom of movement and decent targeting.
Somebody at Anet needs to start caring about the most important aspect of the game and bring us quality classes and roles to play.
Yeah, I’m frustrated again with Anet.
To be fair, I think you are exaggerating things a bit. I wouldn’t go as far as to say things are “terrible.”
Sounds like I need to go hunting >:3
When did you decide to uninstall? Getting an idea of when you left could bring to light what you would maybe come back for.
Glad you guys got nerfed!
Eat some dirt….from my downstate.
Sad Druid is sad.
And increase the effect of torches or other lighty things while it is night! That would be so cool.
Yes, it can be a bit tricky, but trying to time a daze or knock-back just as they land (and immediately follow up with attacks to proc your Ancient Seeds). If they are using Bound instead of Dash, then it makes it a little tougher for them to clear that immob.
I would like to point out that Daredevils don’t have infinite dodges/evades. Vault takes up tons of initiative, and endurance for bound only recharges so fast. If you can count/track how many times each was used, you can predict when they will use a skill to gain additional endurance/initiative. If you can predict that, you can also be ready to unload your own combo. Until then, just time your own defenses with their attacks. The evades may be constant, but that is also a weakness; because the attacks are so metronomic, they are easily telegraphed and predictable.
When weapons do you use? This could give me an idea on ways you can play defensively while you wait for an opening.
I think you are just generally unlucky :P
I would never kick someone based on their AP. I can only suggest to join a friendly guild.
how about something like this?: http://soundbible.com/1636-Power-Up-Ray.html
Edit: (click the little blue bar with soundwaves)
What would you imagine a solar/celestial shooting staff to sound like? Just curious.
Druid is focused on healing and damage boosting (with Glyph of Empowerment and Grace of the Land, in addition to the Ranger’s Frost Spirit and Spotter). A Druid’s dps is moderate at best.
In the order of more damage-y to more heal-y, It would likely be:
Berzerker
Zealot
Magi
Clerics
I personally use Zealot, mixed with Berzerker trinkets, but to each his own. you may try Zealot mixed with Magi trinkets.
If you are going for more healing, I would use sword/warhorn (traited with windborne notes), as the alternate weapon-set to your staff.
This is the closest build I use related to your desires. Modify as you wish.

I guess having V-sync off hasn’t been very noticeable for me — thankfully. But I would still like to find an actual solution.
Go nomads as full heal-bot. and lololol all through the town.
Skirmish idea is very clumsy. A far better solution would be to dynamically calculate and adjust score per tick based on a moving average of the number of active players per server over the past hour as a proportion of the active population of all 3 servers per tick.
eg:
- server A has 2K active players, B has 1.5K, C has 1.8K. PPT.
- server A is currently ticking at 300 PPT, B 100, C 200.
- actual awarded score is scaled as follows:
# A = 300ppt * (5300/2000) / 3 = 265ppt
# B = 100ppt * (5300/1500) / 3 = 117ppt
# C = 200ppt * (5300/1800) / 3 = 196pptThis is using a basic linear scaling whereas actual performance vs population size probably scales geometrically/logarithmically but you get the idea.
The rest of the changes are good.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but wouldn’t that make it so that having less players who are really skilled would be inherently better than more players who are not? Or, rather, this could “shine a light” (so to speak) on players who aren’t pulling their weight.
It could make it so that seeing more people fighting with you would mean less points, in a way.
Hopefully they learned that they need to launch more than 50% of an expansion and not make the other 50% a grind fest.
To this day, this mindset about things being too “grindy” just escapes me. Like, I have not grinded in HoT. Not once. I hate grinding. Yet I am still enjoying what HoT has to offer. So I don’t have 166 mastery points…but I am earning them, slowly, as I explore the jungle.
I almost feel like people label something as “grindy” just because they can’t get it right away. Or rather, to get it right away requires continuous spam through effectively rewarding content. But I’m here to say that you don’t need it right away — most masteries are only usable in the jungle anyway, so you won’t be at a loss without them in the rest of Tyria. Instead, just enjoy the content itself; things like masteries, mats, and elite specs will come with time as a byproduct of having fun.
If you are going for Legendaries, then that is another situation. But legendaries them-self are not reflective of all HoT content enough to label the expansion as grindy.
Those are my 2-cents anyway; this is how I tend to look at the expansion. If you still feel that HoT is grindy even now, then all I can do is feel sorry for you.
tl;dr: It’s like I see all these people barking at HoT — an expansion I love — labeling it as grindy for what I can only perceive as self-imposed time requirements.
My apologies if my mindset conflicts with yours.
Everything.

i was actually dissapointed with Druid Elite, i was hoping the Ranger’s elite to be more damage-oriented not a healer or at least elusive considering they are Ranger, even Itzel Shadowleaper looks more ‘Ranger’ to me than actual Ranger.
That is because Rangers were begging A-net for more supportive ability. Back then, Rangers felt that they were in the same boat as Necromancers, in that they were selfish and offered little to no support that something else could do better. So A-net gave them one of the most supportive elite specs in the game.
Us Rangers will likely be receiving a damage-y elite spec coming up next
(edited by Razor.9872)
I don’t like to do 5 -> 2. The delay is too great. The enemy at least needs some soft-cc on.
Rather, I do:
4 -> 5 -> 3 -> 2
or
5 -> 3 -> 4 -> 2depending on how quick the enemy is.
Just curious why you would cast 4 before 5. You can cast 5 and during the animation cast 4 and have the target pulled and the aoe set at the same time.
Because 4 lingers, I can cast 3 while 5 is doing it’s animation and get the effect of 3 skills. In short, it can be better for faster fights, but casting 4 after/while 5 is probably better for fights expecting to be longer.
I don’t like to do 5 → 2. The delay is too great. The enemy at least needs some soft-cc on.
Rather, I do:
4 → 5 → 3 → 2
or
5 → 3 → 4 → 2
depending on how quick the enemy is.
I’m guessing expansion 2 will be +1 profession heavy, medium, light, and +1 elite spec for each profession.
And no new race.
I wouldn’t go as far as to say they will add new professions. I believe the current professions we have now will be all we will ever have.
However, they will definitely be adding new elite specs for every profession (they plan to have at least 3 per-class), and they are very likely to add a new playable race or two (with one of them being Tengu)
It’s also really fun to explore, do adventures, and interact with the NPC’s
the pinnacle weapons

Ever tried doing Octovine with just 3-4 people?
I have. It’s pretty awesome!
We weren’t that lucky
Well, we didn’t win…but I don’t believe I have to win to have fun
I can already feel my soul being ripped out from all the shout reapers…
I approve <3
How did I prove your point? The combat log clearly shows me being healed multiple times by astral wisp
Right, but you showed that the wisp is not a “pulse” heal. A pulse heal would be an aoe field that rhythmically activates its effect (Medic Gyro is a pulse heal). Astral Wisp, however, is a moving projectile that spins in a circle. If you were to rotate right around that target, you would be receiving the heal less often then if you were to rotate left. That is not a pulse, that is simply a moving object.

I main a Ranger, and thus I am in love with my Druid.
The second I saw this on the gemstore, my face went:
And I immediately impulse-bought it. I’m hopeless.
Give this Norn more ale.
@OP
You seriously wanna nerf Healing from staff druid?
Do you even play the class?
4/5 Staff skills are healing. Let’s just delete staff then.
Just the auto and astral wisp. Auto spam isn’t meant to be rewarding, and astral wisp pulse heal is still quite strong. And yes, I have played the class.
Astral wisp is not a pulse heal.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Astral_Wisp
Me testing it
Thank you for proving my point. I was too lazy to post links myself. :P
well, thanks for posting this thread, OP, glad I saw it before buying the expansion now that there are character boosts…I sure don’t want to spend money on a game I can’t play if no one is available to play it with me!
There should be plenty of people to play with you. It’s a large MMO with a mostly friendly community.
this thread is headed unplayable solo, however the fact is that the game is playable solo, some will find this difficult, that’s always going to be the case. The thread is built on a falsehood.
Anet have a couple options:
1. Make zones trivial for all including the least skilled. Everything is trivial, that’s fun as long as you only ever want trivial.
2. Make some zones harder than others, this gives everyone choice. For the hardest zons, some will be able to solo, some will need help, some will grow into the zone.
its obvious what the correct option is, so those complaining please think on this.
Exactly. One has to consider the developer’s point of view.
It is near impossible to have everything please everyone. Therefore, they can only give options for everyone. In addition to the above points, While HoT may not be soloable to some, it still remains groupable. Therefore, the content is not lost due to ability. Rather, it is obtainable through networking — a thriving availability in MMO’s.
To answer the OP, because Half-Life 3 is not confirmed. But Morgan Freeman already bought all the crowbars in preparation.
