Daggers need "Backstab"

in Ranger

Posted by: Razor.9872

Razor.9872

I don’t think the daggers need backstab. Instead, the auto attack chain needs to feel as fast as Necro dagger, and the skill 2 needs to be a single, hard-hitting attack like Heartseeker. Also, skill 3 needs a very short daze to interrupt and synergize with Soulbeast minors.

Yep, and with SoulBeast with their 4-sec unblockable on beast-merge coming, they’ll hard-counter even more with the ability to spend unblockable time baiting out dodges.

It’s not zero interaction. All the interaction happened when they activated their skills and you don’t avoid them.

Not sure what you mean by completely defensible either. If they are don’t doing anything they should be visible and attackable.

If we are to assume that the whole offensive interaction happened at the moment 0 and the damage is instead spread over the condition duration ending at say the moment 10.

Then that means that from moment 1 to moment 10 the condition bomber can play defensive.

In contrast, power classes have to play offensive from moment 0 to moment 10 and if they play defensive, then they are not doing damage.

Its too big of an advantage and it shows.

Not to mention that even if both classes where forced to keep up the offensive pressure, condi easily does comparable if not higher damage. I for one know that being fully offensive with the zerker condi build i used to tic as high as 8k per second, power cant reach 8k per second damage, nowhere near close to it.

But power builds have more upfront damage. So power classes would be able to play defensively after moment 4, because they would have killed you by then.

Srry no, that was true before HoT, has not been true for a long while now.

Same is true with your statement.

Predator’s Cunning

  • This is an okay trait but to weak imo for a master slot.

Suggestion: In addition to the primary effect, maybe give “Allies siphon health from hitting a poisoned foe” Aura effect.

Similar to:

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Vampiric_Presence

But again the target has to be poisoned.

Thoughts?

With this trait, I don’t think it should be geared towards group support. That should be the job of Essence of Speed. Instead, this should bump up our personal dps. Thus, I think it should change from:

“When you apply poison to a foe, steal some health from them.”

to

“When you apply poison or vulnerability to a foe, steal some health from them.”

That way, the trait will work with both condi and power builds, as well as most of Ranger’s kit. Honestly, I wish it would proc off bleed instead of poison (would make sense thematically), but perhaps that would be too strong.

[Suggestion] Soulbeast improvements

in Ranger

Posted by: Razor.9872

Razor.9872

I agree. I’ll also give my take on dagger improvements. You can critique them as you like. Right now, dagger feels too slow and not aggressive enough. To fit in theme with the soulbeast’s “beastly fight-style with tooth and claw” premise, dagger should be as if not more aggressive than greatsword.

To accomplish this, I would first reduce the cast times on the auto attacks Leading Swipe and Serpent Stab from 1/2 to 1/4. During testing, the dagger auto only felt reliably aggressive and functional when I had quickness. Ideally, dagger auto should attack as quickly normally as it does with quickness now.

Next, looking at skill 2 (Double Arc) just feels like a different, slightly stronger auto attack. To synergize with other ranger traitlines, and with Soulbeast’s theme, skill 2 needs to do 2 important things:

  • It needs to be a single, heavy striking attack like maul (To work well with Moment of Clarity and Remorseless).
  • It needs to have a quick, “long reach” (like the 300 range movement with Hilt-Bash on Greatsword) to feel good and hit reliably.

I’m thinking it be something similar to Thief’s Heartseeker, but a lunge/dash instead of a leap/flip. The conditions it inflicts now are more or less in a good place.

And finally the skill 3 (Instinctive Engage) is close to where it needs to be, but just needs a bit more utility for synergy. To synergize with other ranger traitlines, and with Soulbeast’s traits/theme, skill 3 also needs to do 2 important things:

  • It needs to grant fury in addition to its quickness. Fury would help set up the burst this skill aims to accomplish and synergize with Remorseless, Vicious Quarry, and Furious Strength.
  • It needs to disable the target briefly. Nothing too much, but a 3/4 or 1/2 second daze would synergize with Moment of Clarity, Predator’s Onslaught, and Twice as Vicious.

If these changes were implemented and the numerical values balanced, I believe dagger would better fulfill its role as a quick, savage weapon.

I agree Sub. And I always try to look at the brightside of Lemons in life Justine. But I really need the stab because of the interrupts while I try to stomp. that’s the big loss for me and my playstyle. I guess I will have to look hard at the Soulbeast. Also condi management was not a major problem for me at this time. I will adapt I guess. Just bummed for now…
Anyone else have any idea for stab and burst except for the Yak Stance?

I’m guessing it will come with either the Soulbeast’s traits, beast-fusion skills, or both. Also, stealth-stomp with LB 3 is a thing. And activating a well-timed traited glyph (like glyph of equality), can blind a downed person just before they use a cc.

  • bonding with pets don’t bring the F2 skill from the pet. That’s bad as for example players use the drakehound for the immobile effect. Same for the Wolf or the spiders. We need those. If i bond with the bristle i need the spike barrage. And the smokecloud from smokescale can be a lot of fun in wvw and make that class more competitive in pvp\wvw . Henna F2 right… why can’t we get a clone of us? That would be fun too.
  • some stances last for too short and have ridiculous cooldowns. Bear instance for example last 4 seconds in a 25 cd, 2 condis per second, it would need to be around 8 seconds so it can compare to some sort of TU for condis. Grifon instance could have the CD easily halved, it’s mostly a might generator and 25% vigor gain in 45cd. The elite needs better and more impactful effects. A second strike one second later is really lame for a 60cd.
  • i thought Anet learned their lesson with the glyphs. 360 radius for sharing anything is too small. They should increase GM trait leader of the pack radius to 400\450. And remove the halved duration, we are talking here full duration is 8 seconds at best.
  • 90 secs for Eternal bound is bad. The healed hp is going to be eated in 2 thief autos and that’s literally half a second. 60 seconds would be the magic number i think.
  • still i did not see any pet which brings anti-projectile support. The trent thing brings more healing which is very welcome, but a pet which could make a bubble like the guardian shield could be very useful too.

For your first point, that is an intentional mechanic decision. SoulBeast is not supposed to make your pet irreverent. If you want to use those skills, have your pet out and use them.

As for all your other points, I think I agree.

For druid everyone complained about the lacking synergy and at the moment we get a weapon we wanted (melee condi) with condis that helps stacking our core condis a leap with quickness, people complain….
Dagger offhand could use some love though.
The evade skill would be sweet if they swap it with swords serpent strike. And the old skill is now on sword and pure power based.
Give the dagger throw an immob and we are good.

For sword they just should make hornet sting a standalone skill and chain monarchsleap with the remaining skill together.

I agree. I’d be down for those changes.

Yeah, staff 2 is cool in name only, I wish the whisp did more, or like, did anything noticeable really…

Such as inflict burning?

I was gonna say amplify our auto attack when hitting a whisp target, but burning would be alright too.

I would prefer if the wisp either:
A) Healed and transferred conditions from touched allies to circled target.
or
B) Healed and transferred boons from circled target to touched allies.

for the next expansion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Razor.9872

Razor.9872

I hope they step it up to at least HoT level for the new expansion. Core Tyria enemies are boring.

What about Living World map enemies? the ones in Ember bay for example.

They aren’t as weak as Core Tyria enemies but also not as tough as HoT enemies.

My hopes are that they can just find a middle ground for enemy difficulty instead of just ramping it up to maximum difficulty like in HoT.

I wouldn’t consider HoT to be maximum difficulty. Learn the mechanics or each mob and they become easier. The player base naturally gets better as they play the game so it’s not unreasonable for the difficulty to also increase.

The Difficulty of HoT enemies is considerably much more higher compared to those of Core Tyria maps.

For example the Mordrem Sniper who can 1 or 2 shot kill you if you don’t dodge at the right time.

Or the Mushrooms that always charge at you so fast that you cannot react to their attacks.

All of these enemy abilities make me as a Player feel weak and thats not so fun.

For me the problem isn’t about learning enemy mechanics because given enough time we can practice and become better but this doesn’t change the fact that HoT enemies are still overpowered to the point that 1 mis step or dodge can kill you instantly.

Compared to Core Tyria maps like Orr or Frost Gorge Sound enemies there don’t one hit kill you,

they hit and you lose little health but it gives us enough time to react to their damage. The way that the Damage is from HoT enemies right now is too unforgiving.

What profession do you play?
What gear do you use?

I don’t have these problems with HoT enemies and want to help you do whatever it is I’m doing. To begin I need to understand your starting point.

You know if they didn’t allow dps meters they would use AP to exclude people and if they get rid of achievements they would want the API to look people up on that gw2 efficiency, or even something else. So pick your poison, because they will always find something else to use.

Also you have the choice of who to play with, as do these other people. They want to have everyone carry their own weight. If you don’t want to play with these elitist then make your own group or get into a guild group. Just because this is a MMO doesn’t mean you have to play with every single person that enters a group/map/party/guild, otherwise they wouldn’t have a block list so you can ignore people you don’t like.

I really wish the cold resist had been an account wide mastery rather than something you have to do every single day. The recipe isn’t even account wide where other recipes are.

Right, I’m with you on this which is why I raised the question. I’m not a big fan on the story line although I appreciate many are.
