I would just like for them 2 speed up that auto attack on GS… Everything else is fine for me
And maybe lower some of the CD’s
Personally, I like the speed of the auto (it makes the reaper unique compared to other melee-gs professions). However, I would like the damage scaling of it to be greatly increased to compensate. And I agree with lower CD’s (at least on 5).
Interesting, I wasn’t aware this game had an end-game problem.
With raids, fractals, world-bosses, pvp, wvw, map-metas, and collections, I feel like there is actually too much stuff to do…
But watching a video or reading a guide won’t stop HoT from being what it is.
Obviously. It will help you get where you need to go however. Seeing a puny Asura mesmer bobbing round the whole map getting map complete should put things into perspective.
For some people, it will still be obnoxious and difficult.
Who are these people? Did they look at the guides I keep banging on about? Why are you talking for other people you don’t know? You can say “it is too hard” about anything, I can’t cook French food, it’s obnoxious and difficult.
Those of us who may not be super-skilled or have the best toons still want to experience the expansion material and actually play through the story.
Fortunately you can as HoT isn’t that hard AND got a nerf in April. I’m not super-skilled. I run one of each profession, all elite, in full berserker gear. I’ve got all HoT maps complete on four of them and am working the rest through, a map at a time. I have a habit of standing still and pressing 1 to kill things. I often mis-time my rooted attack so I’m stood in the big orange circle when it hits. I often hit dodge AFTER I’ve been run over by something. I seem to be doing ok.
But it’s hard when some of us hit very debilitating road blocks in overly convoluted maps with ridiculous enemies (mushrooms, anyone? WTH is wrong with those?!). I don’t like feeling that I must “learn to play” or else just drop the expansion entirely.
If you’ve already decided it’s too hard and you can’t play it then you have already made up your mind. I don’t know what you think is being expected of you when you are told to learn to play but I’ll make the same suggestion I keep making.. watch a video of the maps being completed and stop thinking they’re too hard for you. There are a few people on the forums (and more in-game) who will help you get round a map or to somewhere in a map. Can’t make you enjoy the game but the offer of help is there if you want it. And I’m just saying.. when I play in HoT maps I have the interactive mmorpg-life map open on my second screen with dulfy.net in a second tab on that screen. I always know where I’m going and how to get there.
I don’t know why you are continuously being harsh with me when it is obvious that you and I both have different play styles and view different things as “easy” or “hard”. Great, HoT is easy for you. Want a medal? Also, not everyone has two screens to conveniently play the game while also referring to Dulfy or YouTube or whatever else people use. So it’s therefore more inconvenient for me.
Also please notice that when I talked about "other people’, I said “SOME”, since I DO see comments and threads in these forums claiming that HoT is hard for them, so…therefore…logically…that means that there IS a population that DOES find HoT hard. I’m just not making a GENERALIZATION claiming that ALL people find it hard. I said SOME. I know not to make sweeping generalizations about an entire gaming community.
In VB, I managed to get through to the other end and entered Tangled Depths so that I had the WP for there. However, even getting that far was incredibly difficult for me. I struggle with even VB, so therefore it’s going to take a very long time for me to get the mushroom jumping mastery, which is needed to get to the MPs and HPs and so forth that are out of reach. So it’s a vicious cycle. Therefore, it’s more of the struggle of getting enough XP for the masteries that is making traversing the maps hard and frustrating, more than simply being lost.
Also, I apologize for snapping at you. I just get frustrated when people give off an attitude that because they had no issues with HoT, then it’s unacceptable for anyone else to have issues. This does not have to be personal, you know. You can have fun playing HoT as much as you want.
I can understand your position, but also try to understand ours. We are not trying to give off an attitude with you because you are having issues with HoT. Rather, we took steps to overcome our own issues. For some this meant watching a video, reading a guide, changing their build, improving their knowledge of NPC’s, or simply grabbing a friend. Then we see this and feel like you are “complaining” about content you haven’t even tried to overcome/improve-yourself-over/adapt. That is not to say that you have not — I’m sure you have done some things that just haven’t worked for you — but that is what it looks like.
So how about this: I am totally willing to escort/adventure with you throughout the maps. This does not mean we will be unkillable, and I cannot guarantee that I can show you around TD without getting lost myself — but that is part of the fun. It means that you will have a helping hand in completing many of the objectives. Plus, shenanigans are awesome.
When I am not on or available, I’m positive that there are plenty of friendly adventurers willing to lend a hand in adventure.
My main’s name is Lance Bowson.
Trust me you don’t want easy progression you will get bored, it doesn’t matter how casual you are that isn’t rewarding in the end. Are you guys using the lfg tools? Are you asking map chat or guilds to help? People are really really helpful in the game give it a try.
I only got bored with Tyria when they added Ascended grind and Fractals grind to the game, before that i played for a year and a half happily daily, with no issues leveled 11 characters to 80, got every single crafting to 400 saved my gold and bought my exotics..
As soon as the whiners complained about end game being non existent GW2 was ruined for me.. So please don’t say i’d get bored, i was happy in core until i was gated and it became a grind..
You don’t have to “grind” for ascended. And you don’t have to “grind” for fractals. You can still do what you were doing for a year-and-a-half happily, daily, with no issues. Exotics work just dandy for nearly everything.
If you are letting whiners complaining about end-game ruin Gw2 for you, then that is your own personal issue. The core game never left. It is still there. All the things that you were happy with are still there — and there are still people to do them with. You were never “gated” from what you were already doing. The only “grind” you are experiencing is a self-imposed requirement for instant completion/gratification.
I just can’t comprehend this ideology.
What if I told you that the only videos I have watched were for raids?
I’d say you were defeating your own argument.
My “watch a video if you are stuck” suggestions applies to people who are a) stuck and b) in-game or on the forums complaining they can’t do something, can’t get somewhere, that the maps need fixing / nerfing. All those things.
I don’t understand; how does my quote defeat my own argument? My quote emphasized that one can quite realistically get un-stuck, do stuff, and go places without the need for watching a video.
The only reason I did so with raids was so I didn’t slow others down. But with the HoT maps, videos are rarely ever necessary.
Watch the videos, look at the maps at dulfy.net.
Getting around in the new maps with minimal masteries and no xp is how we all started out. Once you can see where you’re meant to be going in VB, it makes it a lot easier to get there. Once there you start getting the XP you need for the mastery. You may never love any given map but there is player provided help if you need it.I think that’s bad design that you must look at guides to know where you’re supposed to go. Hell, most games I play, I beat on my own but then use guides to get all the extra, fun things once I’ve exhausted my attempts to find/collect/do them on my own. The HoT maps are just an awful clusterfrak…
The watching video solution is just a quickfix that people suggest to easily solve the “problem.” But really, I don’t feel a problem to begin with.
What if I told you that the only videos I have watched were for raids? And yet, I have fully completed all 4 HoT maps. That being said, I did not accomplish that feat quickly — it actually took several weeks of short 1-3 hour sessions. But that is what I like about HoT; because I didn’t finish everything right away, it felt like there was more content there for me to experience. Even now, I have 126 of the 166 masteries, but that just means that the HoT maps are still relevant to me. I still have fun exploring them, and I find the map-wide objectives fun to contribute to — because I feel like I matter.
Essentially: Everything that you learned and could do in Vanilla (“full berserker DPS spam 1111 auto assault” tactic), throw them away and it’s time to learn the gameplay mechanics that ANet didn’t teach you properly and didn’t include in the mob designs in the first place.
The content was abit nerfed during last quarterly update, so they’re not as punishing like they used to.
It’s just time to learn proper dodging, aggro management, skill usage during combat, creating builds with more functionality, DPS, Control and Support build trinity.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t find myself mindlessly hitting “11111111” in core Tyria all the time. Don’t know where this mindset has come from.
The mindset arises when people can 111111111 through core Tyria and still win. This is because the mobs in those zones are so easy, they really don’t require more. It’s true that you may use other skills, but it’s also true that you could do less and likely wouldn’t lose/die.
That being said, most people can’t do a minimum of 1111111111 through HoT maps. In HoT, the minimum is more advanced.
You’re hired. The kids will be thrilled.
Lol, that’s a party I’d pay to see. xD
I’m going to just keep PvPing, really. I’ve been PvPing because I find it fun; the back-piece was just a bonus.
I enjoy the unique playstyles between switching between Druid, Reaper, Scrapper, Daredevil, and Dragonhunter.
Personally, I just wish the cooldown on Gs5 was much less (like 20 or even 16), and the damage scaling on 1 and 2 was greater.
I actually like Most Dangerous Game as it is. It is fantastic in trap/evade builds.
^ Pretty much what Positive said. Personally, I crafted myself Zealot armor/weapons (I have a watchwork sprocket node in my home instance and as well as the unlimited mining pick, so I had a large stockpile of them to begin with, though).
However, depending on the group, I swap between Berzerker and Magi amulet/rings/trinkets. That seems to equate to a healthy balance for me.

For the love of all that is good in this world — only use this if you know you can meet expectations. Otherwise, you are just setting yourself up to be a hindrance for other people.
This means bringing the best food/maintenance for your build, having TS/Discord handy, being responsive to group requests, and understanding/performing your role in the squad.
I am not going to lie i wanted to do it; the part about failing not the gold, just to see if one man could.
Some people just want to watch the world burn.
May I have your stuff?
Do you do children’s parties? I’m looking to hire a clown like you.
I disagree because:
- They’re not grindy.
- I do not want character-based mastery grind ever. This will be much more of a nuisance.
I suppose you missed the part where the OP said that if you don’t believe them to be grindy, then don’t post.
The OP expects only people who agree with him to post on an internet forum? Slightly naive, one would wager.
It really is amusing. Like, if one is not comfortable defending their point of view, then how stable and supported is their point of view to begin with?
Actually, I like doing PvE almost as much as WvW. And I don’t even mind the grind, I don’t care for fat rewards; but I have my own annoyances with specific content being locked away for me. This kind of kitten-you attitude totally misses my wallet. You could argue that everyone complaining here represents our own minority, each fighting for our lost causes. But the fact is, this game now has something to kitten off everyone, as if deliberately. It became very unwelcoming, compared to before HoT (more accurately, before Jun 2015).
This is not for you, “white knights”, to prove us “wrong”. We do appreciate your time and effort, no doubt. Hell, if noble Sir Vayne was selling me something above, I would have bought it twice already. But seeing as how it’s HoT we are talking about, and how ANet don’t even bother to say kitten on this matter (or any other), I don’t think you guys are being fair to show us the door on their behalf. We are not your customers to lose.
Elaborate on “this game now has something to kitten off everyone, as if deliberately” in comparison to pre-Jun2015, please.
HoT difficult is the same as Orr was pre-nerf. Does anyone remember how Orr was during the first couple of months? Getting mobbed down by risen.
I miss the old Orr. Now it’s borderline face-roll.
Yeah. Welcome to HoT. A whole expansion that is targeted solely at the higher skilled players. And Anet wonder why it is not as successful as they hoped….
Yeah….No, the only real content that is targeted at higher skilled players are raids, which does not account for the whole expansion in itself. And we are not forced into it
Maybe you need to read the OP’s post again. That is someone who expected HoT to be harder but is still surprised at the difficulty level. They are not talking about raids. HoT is frustrating rather than fun. It is not a success.
HoT just seems normal to me. In comparison, the other maps are just face-roll easy.
I main Ranger, and I don’t even have to press buttons in core maps — my pet kills things for me while I AFK. In HoT I have to dodge a bit and maybe lay down some suppressive abilities, but that just feels average — like it was meant to be.
Second point !
The Raid.
I got few problems with the Raid, but none with the system itself. Has an explorer before everything, I love to explore new areas, discover every secrets and learn new things about each races. But with the Raid, I can’t comply to this envy. Why you will ask ? Few words are enough to describe my feelings. META. I can’t play all the time to GW2, and furthermore, I can’t spend enough time to make my Ascended gear to comply to the actual Meta. So because of this, I can’t join any group, or be usefull during the bosses. So I can’t visit those new places and discover all of their secrets. My main point is on the White Mantle, who’ve been bringed back even more with the patch next week.
I believe in a system like the story instance, where you can visit AFTER the rescue of the team who’s doing the Raid. You can fight few monsters, but nothing the level of Vale Guardian or any other boss of the Raid. I think this can be great for people who can’t spend “enough” time on GW but can still appreciate the new things added.
Just post in LFG for someone who has a full cleared map in those zones. I’m sure someone will eventually open the instance for you. You could then go in and explore to your hearts content. Sure, you wouldn’t get the little bits of dialogue from the bosses/mobs/your-character, but those are minor.
I love it. I hated the old LA. I think the cleaner, modern look is more interesting to me than a shanty pirate town.
I’d like to see more ships in the bay though to give it a more Port-like feel.
I agree with this. While the old LA had its charm, I personally prefer this new sleeker look. It just feels like a more refined city now.
Diamond T5, I guess I’ve met my match. I’ve been dancing around this tier for a week now. I don’t know why, i guess it’s where I belong. Guess this is it. It’s been good PvP.
That you for being realistic. On that note, if you find PvP fun, you should still visit it on occasion.
This is what confuses me. If you don’t play raids, why do you possibly think you’re qualified to say the reasons every single raider enjoys raids? I don’t do them for rewards
I’m not trying to be pandering or rude when I say this, but have you missed the last several updates were Anet was vastly changing players participation in various content by simply modifying the rewards?
Yes?
I also have the DeathAdder (Chroma). I set mouse 3 to elite, mouse 4 to heal, and mouse 5 to F5. Then my utilities are Q, E, and R. Works great for me. I love this mouse a ton.
I tried responding to people but I don’t think it does any good. I feel like people are just ignoring everything that is said in this thread and just jump right to the bottom to regurgitate the same old crap that has been discussed to death. And it is normally over-exaggerated and just plain false information. Meanwhile, people are trying to explain how condi actually works and how it isn’t op, and they are either ignored or get more ridiculously false, ignorant, or exagerrated statements in return. At this point I’m pretty sure the anti-condi party is just a bunch of trolls, cause I refuse to believe that such a large group of irrational people exist.
Never underestimate the irrational populous.
The only way for condi’s to land on someone is for the skill to hit you.
If a skill hits you, it does damage.
Regardless if the skill is condi-focused, or direct-damage-focused.
You can spam buttons in a power build for the same effect.
Thus, the difference between condition application and direct-damage application is negligible.
Actually, in a direct-damage situation, your opponent can rarely negate 50-100% of your outgoing dps with just a couple skill-pops. In that sense, condi probably takes more skill.
I have yet to fight Matthias yet (about to), but just from my knowledge of both professions, I would think the Tempest should do the escorting, while the druid keeps the party up and going. This is because Druids need a target and a sizable group of people to keep their healing going strong. Tempests, on the other hand, can heal target-less, and have more long-duration healing. So even when the Tempest leaves, their healing is still in effect.
What about a mystic forge recipe to upgrade one’s Ad Infinitum to gold as well? :O
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/81529-too-many-waypoints/
There is a different side to this discussion.
3) The experienced in the encounter who are patient and willing to teach others. The true heroes.
Holy kitten I’m so sick of those whiny pushover that are always waiting around for someone to teach them like we all owe them something and if you know an encounter you HAVE to teach every kittening pug that stumbles in your group else you’re a bad person, an elitist and toxic. Then they do like raid of some weeks ago, “mimimi i don’t wanna drag you down i can leave”, instead of listening to my explanations and devoting themselves to become better at max speed. So so much easier to complain and say “I can’t do it”. Jesus christ, bring your problems someplace else, not in a raid group, we’re not your therapist.
OH, and it’s also amazing when you teach them, you carry them through a clear of both wings when they themselves have never cleared them, and then they hop. kitten you. I can’t waste my and everyone else’s time every single week to teach pugs that don’t even say thank youa fter leeching seimur is wrong achiev on their very 1st matthias kill on 2nd attempt of the day. Like, jump in, 1st timer (lied to the whole raid group), die in p3, get carried, get kill, jump out. Every week i get honest firsttimers or liars that weasel their way into the team or plain baddies, and every week i brace myself and explain the mechanics over and over and over and i never kick because I feel guilty as hell, only to have them exploit us like raid mules.
It’s gonna be a very. very long time before I again explain the mechanics for half an hour and get a sore throat for no reason other than trying to be “nice” so people don’t say i’m a “toxic elitist”. Read a kittenign guide. Or maybe I say I give up only cause I?m drunk. Who knows. It’s s o hard to kick people.
That is why I called them heros. Because holding on to your sanity for those extended periods of time is truely difficult.
I think the issue arises when:
If a-net doesn’t give mobs more health to live for 25sec with the average player, then players who go around in full min/maxed dps gear can nearly 2-shot said mobs before they can even effect you with their mechanics.
It is really a tough balance to achieve.
Grind or no grind, the masteries have been implemented awfully. Why would I care or try to grind them after I completed all the meta events on the four maps? What’s the point in trying to get extra accessibility/qol improvements on a map I’m bored of playing? Tie this up with the immersion breaking/mobile phone wannabe games called adventures and you’ll make plenty of people upset.
I don’t get it. There is no point in trying to get extra accessibility/qol improvements on a map that you are bored of playing. So why would you grind for them? They are just there for those who wish to have them and are willing to continue experiencing the jungle/raids to do so. What is the problem?
So you know people there’s rich veins for metals but… Why not bigger tree that gives more wood?
If veins can be rich, what would trees be?
/ponder
Thick?
Personally. If I’d complain about the difficulty in any way, it would be in regards to getting Mastery points. I do not find it fun to repeat story quests for all those achievements. I don’t even want to read a kitten Dulfy guide on full achievements for LS2, I would quite frankly rather not play.
It seems a bit of a joke that all the legendaries are being made with a requirement of max masteries.
But…they are legendary quality items. Being expected to go above-and-beyond the norm is the norm for legendary.
LOL…. Just realised they realeased all these new legendaries… none of which I’ll be able to get.
I was looking at making Nevermore, then I saw the achievement collections, in addition to the maximum mastery (Nuhoch/Exalted etc) to get the gifts. Is this for real? I’m now expected to do all the achievements for mastery points just to craft a single of the legendary weapons?
………………. Wow.
Guess I won’t be getting any. I’d rather not play than even continue to read through the contents of the huge collection lists.
Yes…that is what makes them legendary. -_-
I wouldn’t say Raids brought a community of elitism. Really, if you’ve been here since launch, elitism has always been present (CoF/AC speed runs, Arah near-clears then 3-group kicks for sell, Aetherpath runs, Aetherblade Retreat / Molten Facility lfg requirements, some high-level fractal groups, Twisted Marionette fight, etc…). It’s just a matter of people. Really, there are five types:
1) The true elitists; those who want the absolute best of everybody and won’t take “almost” as acceptable. Really a jack-hat with an itchy kick-finger.
2) The experienced in the encounter who want to get it done to move on, and don’t want to spend 4+ hours teaching people who probably don’t know how to dodge.
3) The experienced in the encounter who are patient and willing to teach others. The true heroes.
4) Those who are new to the encounter, but can learn quickly and are trying (brings food, perhaps has voicechat handy, etc…)
5)Those who are geared in casually acquired mix’n’matched gear and tend to have a tough time moving while activating skills at the same time.
Disclaimer: there are people who fall between these points, but these represent the staples.
Many people mistake the 2nd group of people for elitist, but it is not until you experience situations in their shoes that you realize they are just like you or me, but had many progress-less run-ins with the 5th group in the past — which leads to security checks to help better filter out 5’s or even 4’s. Until you are at the experience level of 2 or 3, join/create groups composed of 3 or 4 first.
If you yourself are a 5, don’t stress it. Raids are just probably not your element. But if you can find a bunch of 3’s or 4’s, then feel free to practice with them.
Avoid 1’s at all cost. Even if you are a 2, they are rarely worth the trouble.
I will have to disagree. All the bosses right now are there for a purpose/reason.
Personally, I am repeating the Arah and CM reward tracks to collect all the weapon/armor skins for both dungeons. Afterwards, I will do the same with HotW and TA tracks. Just kinda skin collecting right now. But repeating the Orr or Maguuma tracks rewards a lot of T6 and exotics.
You can use Shredder gyro in combo with Purge gyro’s poison field for tons of poison bolts.
Edit: especially when placed right above a stationary target
Perhaps it may be pay-to win now. But when the next expansion releases, HoT content will be free.
Quotation needed, because as far as i know Anet never said that. What was said that HoT will be bundled with the next expac. You will still need to pay for that expac, though.
If everything goes according to expectations, upcoming elite-specs will be about equally as strong as the current ones.
If everything went according to expectations, current elite specs would have been equally as strong as the vanilla ones. This didn’t happen, and it’s unlikely to be just a result of Anet’s failure at balancing. And any reason why Anet might have made them intentionally not equal will still hold true when comparing current elites with future ones.
You are right about HoT coming with purchase of future expansions and not being in the trial. My mistake.
Although, I do not follow you when you say that “If everything went according to expectations, current elite specs would have been equally as strong as the vanilla ones.” For that was not my expectation at all. I was in the camp that was expecting them to be stronger.
Pretty circular thread here, eh?
I can add to the mess that Grind =/= Access =/= Gating.
Grinding doesn’t relate to having access to something and that doesn’t prevent it from having certaing gates pre constructed.
Also Stats =/= Winning, and, the hardest to understand of all, Winning =/= Having the Reason. But… yeah, that one is circular.
Honestly, I’ve lost track of where we even are in this thread. It feels like the debate has shifted far off course.
Underwater combat is likely to be overhauled in a future expansion revolving around the underwater dragon “Bubbles.” In theory, I’m guessing Bubbles will be one of the last dragons to be fought.
So I wouldn’t hold your breath ;D
But be rest assured that I believe A-net will eventually get to it.

+ 33% movement speed is the max one can obtain. Any additional speed bonuses after that go to negating speed diminishing effects such as cripple or chilled.
For example:
Swiftness = +33%
SotW = +50%
SotH = +25%
SuperSpeed = +100%
Cripple = -50%
Chill = -66%
Swiftness + SotW = +33%
Swiftness + Cripple = -17%
Swiftness + Cripple + SotH = +8%
SuperSpeed + Swiftness + SotH + Cripple + Chill = +33%

I envy you people.

Kinda fitting because it applies to these cringetastic new people as well.
