And that worked out great!

Seriously, it’s actually painful to my soul when people take on dystopian satire as a mission statement.

It failed because Ryan abandoned his ideology when he stepped in to interfere with Fontaine out of fear of his city’s discovery. Had he stuck with his original ideals, the city would have continued to flourish.

The ideal was sound. It was the execution (in addition to some communication issues regarding product side-effects) that failed.

You can’t get the armor without doing raids it’s that simple Ohoni, there are no satisfactory solutions because there isn’t a problem. You have to do the content to get rewarded for that content’s reward.

You’re basically wanting free stuff without having to work for it. In real life people would tell you to get a job to make money but your replies are basically

“Working” is not a satisfactory solution.

“Not having money” is not a satisfactory solution.

You seem to feel that you ‘deserve’ stuff and how raiders’ efforts aren’t worth much yet you seem to be unable to even muster that minimal level of effort to get the armor which says more about you than raiders.

Exactly. Ohoni is the reason Andrew Ryan went off to build a sub-aquatic city.

Razor.9872

in the beginning thief could stealth cap in WvW guess what happend…. 1 thief could stop a zerg of 40 from ever achieving a cap lol.

an easy way to fix that is to make the point work diferent 1v1 point does not change 2v1 points start to change to the 2 person color same thing with more players, the team with more players on points get the cap slowly.
this will even kill solo bunker a point

I feel like this is a really cool idea, but I also feel it could potentially have some negative game-play repercussions. I think we should brainstorm the potential side-effects on what players would end up doing and how the meta would change if this were to be put into effect.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I feel bad for anet they put all this design into HoT and then had to redo that design to balance it out (delaying upcoming content even more). Anet needs to focus on getting things done right the first time. Look at those mini adventures in HoT and how poorly that was done. Guild halls are almost pointless.

They always try to focus on getting it right the first time. Actually, that’s why it often takes so long for stuff to be released. The issue comes from what is “right” or not. Really, that is a subjective answer with two or more groups of people shouting different responses.

I actually liked the mini adventures and guild halls.

These condi bunkers are absurd

in PvP

Razor.9872

season 3 reapers has been nerfed and is much more balanced now than season 2 reapers.

also, if you focus the reaper in team fights they will go down rather quickly.

I get your point but..did you read properly my post? I was talking about multiple reapers with ele support, so how do you focus 3 reapers that are getting healed by a tempest that you can’t even touch as you’re perma crippled/weakened/chilled?

If you think a single ele can give your team enough time to kill anything..think again! reapers alternating condi bomb on ele..even the most skilled ele on earth won’t survive long

ha I forgot to mention that I’m talking about diamond/legend level so no amber reapers that die as they have no clue what deathshroud is

3 reapers, if even one of them is MM, then even your best aoe will be wasted on minions at least 50% of the times.

Now you have the scenario: 3 above average reapers supported by above average tempest..in soloq..no freaking esl of which nobody serious really care and neither it’s a valid example of balance. You can’t expect same level of coordination/knowledge from soloq players who at the contrary of esl players are not people who play 12+ hours a day coordinating spikes together.

Nobody wise enough gives a “dodo” if something can be countered at esl level with highly coordinated spikes, in the past specs were nerfed for much less.

Substituting chill with bleed didn’t make reapers any harder to play.

I understand your pain, but in my case I just sort of rolled with the punches.

I build my own reaper specifically dedicated to condi-transfer/cleanse/mitigation. This means Sigils of Generosity and Purity, the trait Plague Sending coupled with Parasitic Contagion, Consume Conditions, Plague Signet, “Suffer!”, Putrid Mark on staff 4, and Deadly Swarm on dagger 4, in addition to some stun-breaks and the shroud’s stability.

So I’m not that great when fighting other power builds, but if I enter a match where I can tell there are going to be a lot of condi’s flying around, I can swap to my reaper and make the enemy eat their own medicine.

MMR hell explanation

in PvP

Posted by: Razor.9872

Razor.9872

I have to wonder what you guys that haven’t experienced this get out of constantly trying to explain to everyone how bad these players are. Do you feel compelled to justify your own win streaks.

Just to be clear, are you making the argument that you have a 20% winrate and it’s not your fault? I just want to make sure I know what you’re trying to say.

You’re also making a huge assumption with your math that people with poor winrates can play 100’s of games. I’ve maybe played 130 this season and I’m in legendary right now. And now I’m stuck because the progression gives me 3 wins… then 4 losses, rinse and repeat.

the ‘progress fairy’ doesn’t ‘give’ you 3 wins and 4 loses, you have simply progressed to the point where you are slightly below average. How else could it be, at some point this happens to all apart from the most skilled teams in legendary.

Slightly below average? The player pool is so small in legendary it keeps pitting me against people on the top of the leaderboards. So I don’t play it any more. And now people are complaining of hourlong queues in legendary. Funny how that works.

That’s not below average — that’s below the top players’ average.

But, you are in legendary? what do you expect to face? noobs?

No. But being pitted against the very very top of the top players every time? I’m in legendary, not E-Sports League.

I kill Diamond/Legendary Tempests every day…

If I kill the unkillable…what does that make me?

And with how many other people on your side? 3v1/4v1 at diamond/legendary, yeah they’re gonna go down. At lower ranks maybe not. 2v1 happens occasionally. I’ve never seen anybody other than a thief 1v1 an even halfway decent tempest, and it doesn’t happen regularly because it requires an element of stealth (which, admittedly, the thief is built for but is still situational).

Assuming equal skills of all players involved no class should be able to consistently 2v1 any combination of other classes, and even a highly skilled player should not be able to 3v1/4v1 mediocre players of any other class combination reliably.

It’s true that I face Tempests in teamfights more often than not (that’s where they naturally head towards). However, I have killed plenty of them on far-point 1v1 as Reaper, Scrapper, and Daredevil. That being said, I can’t imagine doing so as a Berzerker, Herald, Druid, or Chronomancer.

SURVEY regarding MMR Hell - please answer!

- what is your main character name (or well known as)?

Lance Bowson —- However, I tend to use a lot of alts in pvp. So I also go by Fectious Blackblood, Razor Hawkeshot, Lyra Autumntale, and Val Blackfire

- do you believe in MMR hell?

No. Not really. I mean, I believe there is a point in which one finds their skill at-par with their matchmaking, and becomes unable to progress without getting better. However, I do not blame the game for that situation.

- what division are you now?

Diamond – Tier 5 (So close, I can taste it)

- what division do you think you belong to?

Truthfully, I am unsure. If this game had a larger playerbase with more grueling division placement, I probably wouldn’t get past Ruby. However, with the way that one can get “saved” by tier locks in early divisions, and the indirect ability to ride wins off of scrub opponents, I think Diamond suits me just fine.

I’m going to have to agree with Sticker on this. It’s statistically improbable to have a losing match -every- time you are close to passing a tier. Eventually you’ll end up winning one, and be locked in a new tier.

Here’s a tip: whenever you play a match with good people. Ask those people to go in party with you. That way, you’ll be more likely to be the team of “higher MMR” that is so infamously spouted about, and you’ll be more likely to go on winning streaks.

A Personal Opinion and Rant

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Razor.9872

Razor.9872

I’m not asking for proof. We all perceive what we perceive. Personally I have seen responses and complaints about Raids in GW2 the moment they announced it would be a feature of HoT, and not a few either. Because the term Raid is kind of a loaded term, and what it usually implies is not something a lot of people in GW2 like, because the game is/was (debatable, but not here) oriented to casuals. But it depends on where you look what you see.

But yes, the division has been there longer. It was the same in the old dungeon days. Speed clears and “elitist” runs against pugging, playing how you like and just having fun. With neither side realizing that fun is subjective and one shouldn’t force one’s own perception of what’s fun on someone else, who has his/her own perception of it. Perhaps Raids have made that clash more visible than the dungeon meta did, because Raids actually do have prerequisites which you have to meet our you will fail. Dungeons don’t have that. Whatever you take inside will eventually clear that dungeon, but that’s not the case with Raids. The fact that there’s story involved and the casual players don’t get to see that incites them even more, understandably. ANet’s reassurance that they will not be left out and LS3 will fill in any gaps for people who have never set foot in the Forsaken Thicket doesn’t seem to help. The fact that it has rewards only obtainable by successfully clearing the Raid also doesn’t help. There are plenty of rewards in GW2 tied to specific content, but as long as it’s within reach of the majority it’s all fine.

And this is a logical response from a community of a casual oriented game. But MMO’s attract more than just those kinds of people and for it to be successful it has to cater to all people. And with that you’ll have to accept that not everything they do will be of your liking. But that’s only because not everything is meant for everyone. I don’t see that being any different in any other MMO. And then comes out the argument that ANet wants to be innovative and do things their own way, not the traditional way, and so shouldn’t do things like Raids and gate specific rewards behind it.

So yes, in general terms I do feel this debate has been going on for years now. The content focused on is different, but the same arguments are being used by the same general groups of people. And it’s the Internet, so they can throw in any attitude they want because, “Whatever”. Raids will not destroy the GW2 community. And it didn’t create a divide, it only inflammated an already existing one. That is what I have perceived.

Well, as you said it yourself, raids haven’t really helped in bringing the community together. And that’s my point, divide grows way bigger.

You have to realize exactly what this “divide” is gaped between. It is between the “casual” player, and the “hardcore” player (yes, those are very loose terms, but I don’t have better labels on hand).

True, raids are not helping to bridge the divide, but that is only a half-truth. Because at the same time they are not not helping — just like any other content in the game, really.

The divide between these two groups of people has been, and always will be there. Yes, there are people that fall between, but I am speaking in a broader sense.

For a long period of this game’s life, the “hardcore” group felt disconnected from the game because it solely catered to the “casual” audience. But, generally, they never asked A-net to make the casual content more hardcore. Instead, they asked A-net to add more hardcore content so they could enjoy the game too.

See the difference? Because right now, the mainstay of anti-raid positions are asking for the removal or nerfing of raids.

All in all, how would you go about bringing these two completely different groups of people together? What content can you conceive of that caters to both, and makes both want to play with the other?

Has ANet Forgotten the Casual Gamers?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Raids are made by an independent team, and their development doesn’t effect otherworldly being done on PvE.

To say that development doesn’t effect other parts of the game is a flawed premise. These people are getting paid, right? And they’re not working on the rest of the game? That sort of sounds like what they had going on with the legendary six. Apparently, the dedicated team actually did effect overall development.

Think of it like this – when you have 2 people hammering a nail, will adding a third person make the nail get hammered faster? I would argue not, as certain actions can only be completed at a rough rate. Adding more people won’t make it go faster, if anything, the people will start getting in eachothers’ way.

It really isn’t quite as simple as that. For example, a Tempest could be a standard bunker, but then maybe the meta could shift and it turns into a dps role. Or depending on how your Guardian is built, it could be strong vs some professions, or weak vs others, etc…

It is true that a “soft, hard-counter” exists between different builds, but knowing how to rotate and pick your fights is -part- of the key to the game.

Of course it will get easier over time for those who already find it easy.going from 100 to 150 will be a walk over.fFor anyone thinking of just getting into raids to get themselves a nice new set of legendary armor then they face the time spent trying to find a group plus all the fails then this massive unnecessary grind will probably be a tad off putting.

That’s their problem. Many of us who are consistently raiding put in the effort, dealt with the problems head-on, and came out on top. If people are unwilling to put in the same amount of effort, then that’s on them. This isn’t an unnecessary grind, as Legendary armor wasn’t targeted at everyone. The intention behind the Insight requirement was so that dedicated and successful raiders (who’ve worked hard towards that goal) can get it fairly easily, and that is true.

Quote from a dev in a Reddit AMA:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/48zlyd/im_mike_obrien_here_with_gw2_dev_team_ama/d0nx80s

I agree with you, but I would like to add a disclaimer;

It can be somewhat inaccurate to say “worked hard”. I have not “worked hard” at all in my opinion — I have just been playing raids and having fun — but I am still close to 150 LI’s. It isn’t a matter of “work” so much as…“persistence”? No, that word doesn’t quite fit either. The point I’m trying to make is Raiding doesn’t have to be a job/chore. Really, it’s a super fun experience that is awesome to do every week! And before you know it, you’ll be on your way to getting legendary armor in addition to having fun.

If that makes any sense.
