Second weapon set for condi rev?

in Revenant

Posted by: Redfeather.6401

Redfeather.6401

I am using a hammer right now. Phase smash is useful for spreading conditions via legend swap to trigger geomancy sigil, and the chill of phase smash can add torment through abyssal chill.

The auto attack on hammer can also do stuff with the fire and dark fields a condi rev makes.

I’m probably not as experienced as Taobella, but I like Hammer/Ventari too. Both can be used concurrently. There is synergy between them to do a lot of condition cleansing through tablet skills, blast and projectile finishers. And they both do some form of CC!

I even use a sigil of transference on my hammer as I found I’m always switching to tablet when I start using hammer, so why not give the tablet a little extra boost… even though that 10% is entirely pointless.

damage should come from power only

Redfeather.6401

I like how conditions in guild wars 1 did health degen and not damage ticks. And health degen was capped. Too anyone who plays revenant, but never played guild wars 1, health degen is like energy for revenant. It shows pips.
https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Health_bar-poison.png

edit: For GW2 it could be implemented and only the players have the degen cap, and pve mobs/objects/etc would have no cap.

Hammer's basic attack needs flavour

in Revenant

Posted by: Redfeather.6401

Redfeather.6401

Here’s an idea for hammer #1. It’s a weird one.

Hammer1 does a spin move and gets an brief AA chain that throws the hammer.
Timing the use of Hammer1 will still throw it like normal, as you just have to use the AA chain before it expires before using Hammer1 again. If you wait for the AA chain to expire then using Hammer1 again just does another spin move, so you can time presses to only do spins with it.

If Hammer1 hits a melee range target than the AA chain not only throws the hammer, but knocks back the revenant and counts as an evade.

The spin move hits twice at a range of 130. The AA chain is up for only a second.

Opinions for pve condi gear options?

in Revenant

Posted by: Redfeather.6401

Redfeather.6401

For pve I am using rampager gear. Specializations are devastation, corruption and salvation. I use Embrace the Darkness to boost power, condition and crit chance. No need for fury to reach 89+ crit chance while in EtD with rampagers, so I figure why not.

edit: I am not in full rampagers though, it’s a mix of rampagers and zerkers as my hybrid build is for killing trash mobs as fast as possible.
Here is the build so far. The empty stuff is optional and I change it all the time.

I prefer unlocking new abilities through overcoming challenges. The way this system was implemented led to stuff like people farming xp in CoF to max masteries. At least the mastery points required beating certain challenges, so it felt half engaging to me. I could live with the xp farming aspect of the mastery system being left out. And that way we start earning spirit shards again.

I only have dragon equipped for swiftness. Rarely use it in combat except in open world events where others can benefit from the buffs. Never use Nature etc. I play rev for its lack of or at least relatively short CDs.

Hammer dwarf is good for zerker gear.

Mace demon is nice. Twilight armor dungeon condition gear is relatively quick to get and decent.

For regular pve I started using sigil of speed for the first time last week. Found that I could start playing a hybrid build now that doesn’t need glint. I feel liberated!

It helps that Spear on Revenant has two auto-attacks, one ranged and one melee, it is a true hybrid weapon on revenant. But I agree, the legends need to work underwater.

I thought it was cool that spear was designed that way. The other skills on it are interesting hybrid skills too. So the weapon is used differently depending on the player’s stats.

PSA Ventari's Tablet during Claw of Jormag

in Revenant

Posted by: Redfeather.6401

Redfeather.6401

It took me a couple of days of practicing with the tablet but last claw of jormag fight I started to hit a groove. When CoJ fears everyone you can still use Ventari’s Will to move the tablet and use Purifying Essence to cure conditions.

Eventually I was able to recognize when a ‘fear wave’ was coming and prepare just in time to cure 5 players even when my rev was feared. Still haven’t gotten the hang of it, but it certainly felt useful in that fight. With a lot of practice might even be able to ‘unfear’ 5 more people using Energy Expulsion on top of it all.

Great thing about the tablet is it seems to be controllable independently of whatever your character is doing. I could move the tablet and activate its skills while I was reviving players, getting feared, and using the charrzooka bundle.

Lastly I wanted to share that I’m doing all this using the action camera. It seems that with practice the action camera is definitely the control mode I feel most confident in when using ventari’s tablet. Try it out!

How is revenant for PvE?

in Revenant

Posted by: Redfeather.6401

Redfeather.6401

I always run with Light, Element and F2 on. Soon as I get into a fight, I pop Might and Element for damage, then get Darkness up for Fury (I have 40% Fury traited so my build is 100% crit). This gives me regen at the start of the fight rather than trying to have it slowly build up during the fight, as well as reactively negate death-damage without the delay of activate > heal.

As you might’ve guessed, I spend most of the time in Glint, but tend to have a second legend dependent entirely on what content I’m doing or where I am. Mallynx if I need boon-strip on demand, Resistance, Blind or Condi-heavy heal. Jalis tends to be my most used secondary for heal + condi clear x2, his elite for damage reduction or the stability drop.
Ventari can be great for encounters where it’s slow moving and stable locations (molten core fractal for example, or VG raid). I can trait for regen + protection, and essentially spam heals, protect from ranged damage, condi clear and negate things so easily.

If you play Europe I’d be happy to show you sometime.

Rev is a great, flexible class – don’t be afraid to play around with it to suit your playstyle, rather than match yourself to the build.

Some interesting ideas here. I never thought of using Ventari as the second legend for PvE, but it does make sense for the survivability it brings. Also I didn’t use F2 unless I was in a party, but maybe I should consider using it solo too.

I do play in Europe so let me know how I can contact you.

I use Ventari. When I accepted that rev isn’t going to do as much damage as my thief, or ele, I just decided to settle for above average damage. So instead of sacrificing a lot to get that extra little bit of deeeeeeeps, I went for stuff like salvation/ventari/sigil of draining. Now I’m a tanky boss. XD

I’ve loved Ventari Tablet since the beginning was so happy it got buffed while I was gone. What makes it so fun, is that it allows you to feel as though you are playing 2 characters at once. I used to play Carl Clover in Blazblue and it feels just like that. So satisfying.

honestly giving how things are going right now in the game and so forth . a look around the forums and reddit well tell you a lot .

and since you not gotten hot yet at all. if it was me making this choice . i would go to walmarts and get a copy of hot . as now buying a copy of hot . gives you a second acount IF you do NOT hook it up to your first acount . and at my local walmarts if i wanted to i can get a copy of hot for $15.00 . but like i said the way its going i would not even do that and hold on to my $15.00 but that’s just me .

the state of the game itself in short wvw is pretty much dead and the same for pvp too as well . pve its ok for the most part still but for how long who knows till the new pack comes out with mounts and so forth .

My friends and I went on last night to just PvP for the fun of it; get back into the groove of things. It was funny when we 2v2, until we went into sPvP. That’s when my eyes opened up. For some reason, there were some classes that just felt difficult to burst down (not Guardians); they were Elementalists and Rangers to name a few. Compared to when my friends were fighting each other in 2v2, it felt like we didn’t stand a chance against these guys. Has something changed? Because I believe one of my veteran friends informed me that HoT has an Elite Spec now and it’s different. Would that explain why some of them were difficult to kill?

I don’t know if you’ve played black desert online, but elite specs in GW2 are similar to awakenings in bdo. The power creep is real. Not many core builds can stand toe-to-toe with the top elite spec builds.

Guild Wars 2 is great, but a large part of it is combat, and honestly the combat feels like shadow puppets passing through each other with damage numbers floating up from where they intersect.

I left GW2 earlier this year to play black desert and right now I prefer to play bdo as the combat is just more satisfying. It’s hard to describe but the way that combat is visually and audibly presented makes me feel like I’m connecting with the world.

Just so people know…

My second post was because for the past few years I have taken breaks, and during the breaks come back to the forums and made suggestions. The responses were always 1. GW2 does it already, 2. GW2 doesn’t need it. 3. GW2 would need to be completely overhaualed to change. Always the same outcome to my topics, but I honestly forget that over time and need to be reminded.

So in one response to my topic I was quickly reminded that the game just isn’t going to change, and I am looking for change. It’s all good everyone. good luck and have fun!

Well it’s good that you realised this yourself. The question one would have to answer I guess is, why should GW2 change? It has a niche of its own. Making GW2 more WoW, BDO, Archage, etc. like would just make it compete with the respective game in their category.

Better be unique and improve on your concept and design than copy someone else. This goes double for game mechanics which make MMOs seem similar. It’s imo one of the major reasons all those WoW clones failed a couple of years back. Why go for 2nd best when you can play the original.

I just liked how the game I am currently playing keeps changing things up and dropping new mechanics unto me as I get further… to both keep me engaged, and give me new directions of progression.

Like I just got a handle of the skill add-on system in bdo and the game drops awakening on me. And as I just start to get a handle on that, Pearl Abyss reveals they are working on an awakening 2.0 system that allows the merging of non-awakened skills. That really excited me, and I wish GW2 kept that feeling of ‘there is always more to come’ where character progression is concerned.

Redfeather.6401

I took a break from GW2 in february and been playing black desert online (bdo). I still think GW2 is better overall, but it feels really stale by now. I just wanted to point out some things I saw in bdo that I thought would be cool to see in GW2. Stuff to freshen up the GW2 experience.

Skill use on cooldowns
I noticed in bdo that some skills can be used even when they are on cooldown. Their description says what penalties apply when using them on CD. It is pretty interesting and helps to make the combat in bdo feel like you always have plenty of options.

Skill add-ons
During character progression you reach a point in bdo where you unlock a slot refered to as a skill add-on. It allows you to pick a skill from a list of your class skills and add 2 effects to it. In bdo it is simple stuff like +critical% or +20 damage to monsters in pve. You get to choose which skill and which 2 effects depending on how you like to play the class. You unlock up to 6 of these slots at milestones in character progression, and even though the effects cannot stack, they do create a sense of further progression and can be useful.

Context Effect on weapon swap
So in bdo you unlock a new weapon and skill tree at later level. Once you do, your character gets the ability to weapon swap. Not a big deal, but what I found really interesting is that swapping weapons is different depending on what situation it is done in, and can bestow an effect while doing so. For example, when a wizard weapon swaps while strafing they get a brief energy shield that blocks frontal attacks. When a kunoichi weapon swaps while moving forward, it does an uppercut move. When kunoichi swaps while moving backward it does an evasive backstep attack. When she swaps in the air it does a quick downwards air attack.
It is really cool how just the mechanic of weapon swapping is used to add to combat options.

Well that’s all I got. It’s fun to think about how games can get creative and keep surprising me with how they do stuff in different ways. Take care everyone!
