My impression is that some really good stuff is ruined by a lack of innovation, lack of interaction, and too much focus on farming/grind.

The “old time” player that has been around since GW1 can tell you how the game has done a 180 since launch.

I hate to think of it, as it makes me sad. GW1’s mechanics were not broken at all, but everything about those mechanics have been completely forsaken in this sequel.

You have do enough of a percentage of damage to it’s total health to qualify as taking part in its defeat. I don’t know the exact percentage, but you’ll get a feel for it in no time.

When people are in events that have a lot of mobs they usually tag as many mobs as possible with just enough damage to get xp out of it.

earning/sharing battle experience

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Redfeather.6401

Redfeather.6401

Experience gain is a percentage of total xp needed to reach next level.
So if you are level 10 and kill a drake you could get 10xp, but if you are level 70 and kill that same drake you could get 300xp. Because it’s percentage based.

You don’t lose any xp gain from someone else helping.
You won’t gain any more xp from being in a party.
Only xp bonus you’d normally see is if the monster rarely get’s killed you get what’s called an exploreable bonus.

When you level up in WvW, you get chests. They give random amount of Proof of Heroics. Those are used on NPCs called Heroics Notary. They will take Proof of Heroics and use them to automatically complete a HP challenge randomly out of the ones you haven’t done around the world.

Suggestion: Fun!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Redfeather.6401

It’s definitely the right phase to consider emphasis on fun.

This is how mmorpgs go.
1. This mmorpg is like <popular mmorpg name> but with <whatever is different than popular mmorpg>
2. Can’t handle server population, so get new servers.
3. Focus on retaining server population.
4. Further content requires time/money/work.
5. Changes/additions are focused on grinding treadmills and whatever mmorpgs have done to retain population.
6. Player population drops as players stop having fun and don’t know what they really want when they ask for <insert gives us mounts/raids/and everything popular mmorpgs do>.
7. Expansion time! and/or Free to Play!
8. Repeat steps 3-7
9. <This zone is grey, has anyone been here before?>
10. Somewhere within steps 3-8, games just kind of die.

Obviously Mesmer has a higher learning curve, but still – I like a challenge.

What PRO/CON would you give me for those 2?

And again – THANKS A LOT GUYS! Tons of valuable informations getting by you!

Glad to see that here’s a friendly community, not common these days.

EDIT: Stuck between Mesmer, Necro, Thief and Revenant.

HALP!

Biggest difference right off the top of my head is that mesmer can feel slower paced. Their illusions/clones are summoned and die on a per target basis. Unlike necromancer minions which are persistent.
Mesmer’s learn towards direct damage more easily, and necromancer’s condition damage. But with elite specializations available at lvl 80 I have no idea how that chagnes. I do not have a lvl 80 mesmer yet, and I’ve rarely play necromancer anymore.

edit: In World vs World I’ve seen both a single mesmer player or necromancer player take on a group and do very well with skill. I don’t think you can go wrong with either choice.

You can build a thief to heal itself through attacking.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Signet_of_Malice
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Invigorating_Precision

Once you get to level 80 with thief, since you have Heart of Thorns, you can train to become a daredevil which gets some really cool mobility options. Evasion becomes a strong part of their defense.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bounding_Dodger
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Lotus_Training
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Unhindered_Combatant

I mostly play as thief, engineer and elementalist and I prefer thief the most. It’s an untraditional profession in that it doesn’t use cooldowns on it’s weapon skills. All of that is balanced around using up initiative points which regenerate over time. You have to either pace yourself or slip in and out to do spikes, and so long as you have the initiative you can react to situations with whatever skill you want, cuz no cooldowns!

Thief Changes Idea: Might Access

Also I saw some talk about necromancer. Necromancer stack might further into a battle because their strength is stacking condition first, then might. Most classes that specialize in direct damage stack might early on in fight because they won’t win a war of attrition.

Thief Changes Idea: Might Access

in Thief

Posted by: Redfeather.6401

Redfeather.6401

Professions can already stack might up to limit, including thief. But the key is they can’t flip a switch to get to 25 instantly, and they can’t keep it at 25 for long. It’s like a rage mode. Gotta be careful how many sources of might each profession is given to keep it this way.

Elite Concept (Just for fun)

in Thief

Posted by: Redfeather.6401

Redfeather.6401

Another topic made me remember an elite concept I had and wanted to share. Cuz is fun!

So it’s a magic thief, tied to the mists.
The profession mechanic replaces Steal with summoning an agent of the mists.
Once summoned the mists agent swoops through the opponent disabling one of their weapon skills for X seconds. For a limited time they attack the opponent as a shadowy clone of that opponent.
Their attacks do not target the opponents health, but instead attack their endurance. You can choose to use the mists agent’s stolen skill by pressing another key, similar to ranger pet. That skill will behave exactly as it should meaning it will physically hurt or heal if that is the skills mechanic.
The mists agent has a limited duration before it retreats back into the mists and goes on cooldown.

The heal skill is a glyph. If used when there is no mists agent active it is a combo skill that starts with channeling. The channeled skill uses up the player’s endurance and converts it to health and will grant alacrity to the player, helping shorten the cooldown of utility skills, elites and the mist agent summon. Pressing the heal again while channeling will end the channeling it make it go on cooldown.
If the mists agent is active, the heal skill will consume the mists agent and both heal the player and restore any endurance the mists agent stole from attacking the opponent.

One utility skill is a simple swap move with the target. You swap places with them. It is a glyph as well. It will perform the swap if your opponent is not using a skill. If they are using a skill, it will make you do that skill against the opponent instead.

Another utility skill is a stealth skill that remains in effect, but drains endurance the entire time you are stealthed, it will end when you run out of endurance or are revealed.
It is also a glyph and if you are already stealthed when using it, the skill will instead grant alacrity at the cost of endurance.

The elite attack summons another mists agent to follow behind you like a trail. It will repeat every move you do essentially meaning you will do double attacks for the duration of the effect. It is a special boon, but can be stripped like regular boons.
No surprise, but it’s also a glyph. If you have a mists agent already active this skill consumes the profession mechanic version mists agent and grants fury/might/quickness to the player.

That’s all I can remember so far.

GEMS & My thoughts about the game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Redfeather.6401

Maybe you should look at that before you say too much about the Guild Wars 2 cosmetic selling store.

The Guild Wars 2 gem store is far from just a “cosmetic” selling store.

Bank tabs. Bag slots. Time saving items. Upgrades. Quests items. Extractors. Unique and valuable items hidden behind gambling mechanics.

Yeah, stuff like the repair canisters, revive orbs and teleport to friend items are pretty questionable things to sell in a cashshop if you don’t want the game to give the impression of being pay-to-win. Even though we can get those items from login rewards every week, it still iffy.
