Counter Magic: Keybind?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Redfeather.6401

I went into option and rebound my ‘special action’ to shift+R. It works great so far.
Also I use action camera, and no problems at all with using counter magic.

Maybe I’ll post my keybinds in case anyone wants to try it. These are keybinds I settled on after spending the first GW2 beta weekend playing around with how it feels.

I liked it because LS3E1 started off slow. I mean we spend quite a while just following a crippled asura around.
And then it takes off like a rollercoaster, and how do we stop this thing?! Slow it down a little?! We don’t! ha haa
Honestly I think the pacing worked.

BTW, taimi is the best. Just wish she gets a prof X hover chair or something later on.

My gut says that mistlock observatory, and dessa, are a fractal based on one of an infinite number of probabilities the mists draw upon to establish an anchor for the real observatory’s existence within the mists. Okay, hope that makes sense.

Path of Exile has an infinitely better reward system.
In that game you honestly leave junk drops on the ground.

I wiki’d it. Does it have a trading post? The description of the economic system sounds very different from this game, to the point where it doesn’t sound comparable.

“Path of Exile is unusual among action-RPG games in that there is no in-game currency. The game’s economy is based on bartering “currency items.”

If it’s barter only and no currency then things that are to much trouble to find a person who wants them will be left on the ground.

The trading post is evolving. You use public stash tabs in your bank to store items you want to sell. That type of tab allows you to set asking price and buyout price, as well as put some kind of note to buyers. Searching the trading post requires going to it’s own website, and buying requires that the player whose selling be online. The game is free to play so it’s still evolving. The searching system will be implemented in-game over time.

It’s the fact that standard currency items, used by both NPC and players, are actually consumables that is great. As each item can be used to buy from NPCs or players, but each type of currency item can be consumed to perform a function. The functions range from necessary, to useful, to luxury. And each tier of consumable usefulness and drop rarity is what dictates their value.

Junk items can be very useful as a crafting base, so players can afford to be very choosy in what they pick up, as they don’t need dozens of crafting bases. A crafting base is a junk piece of gear with a very good base stat. Players then use consumable items to build off that good stat to slowly evolve the item with extra stats and mods that increase the usefulness and value of the item. But crafting is a whole nother pickle. XD

Just for fun here is someone crafting. Turning a junky item into something very good. They are using Master NPCs to help craft, which is an option even though players can do these things on their own to get better results at higher risk rates.

Retreat shout name change?

in Guardian

Since there are things in the game that can only activate while in combat (like on weapon swap traits), maybe the voice shouting ‘retreat’ could only happen if you are in combat when using the skill.

And then maybe the skill can be changed further for outside, or in combat. Like the skill does more swiftness and no aegis if not in combat. But if in combat the skill does exactly what it does now.

I bought an episode of living story season 2 for the mastery point. But then I realized I had to complete the episode again to unlock the achievements, which when all completed unlock the one mastery point. I said “kitten this”, and that’s the end of that. 200 gems gone, but lesson learned.

You actually unlock one MP for completing each chapter, then a 2nd MP for completing each chapter’s achievements.

What angered me was that I did it all again on an alt because the achievements were now unlocked, but never earned an achievement doing it, even though I was doing what the achievement screen asked.

How about if the spirits become astral wisps and circle the ranger, making them mobile and passive/active effect centered on the ranger? Circling wisps are certainly doable in the tech. Animation can be minimal or non-existent, allowing sun spirit’s blind to be instant, like it should be, and frost and earth actives dropping under the ranger for ice combo field or to help in escapes.
The wisps could each have a colour indicating the type of spirit, and Spirit of Nature would be larger in size.
To spread them out, I’d suggest sun and storm around the shoulders, (sky) and frost and earth near the floor (ground). Spirit of Nature floating around the head maybe.

For what it’s worth, I believe the central Tyria Masteries are examples of what Masteries ought to be than the HoT ones. They’re nice to have, but unlike some HoT Masteries, not having them does not hinder getting around.

I think the worst masteries are the ones that unlock vendors. HoT locked vendors just to make people farm xp to unlock them. Gating stuff that way, like with the karma vendors was as far I would have ever gone.

Xpac 2: what could replace DH/Longbow?

in Guardian

Redfeather.6401

Here’s what I think spear skills should be.

1 -> Channeled skill (you can move while channeling)
Throw spears in quick succession. The last spear cripples it’s target.
You could use this skill to attack multiple targets by sweeping action camera around, or tabbing to different targets, etc. Or focus all the hits on one target.

2 -> Charging Impale move
Similar to scapper’s Shock Shield move… you can freely control your character as they run forward. They will impale and hold every enemy they come in contact with. After the charge is finished they kick the enemies off the spear.
Just the thought of gathering up enemies and then knocking them back sounds fun. I haven’t seen a CC skill do that yet.

3 -> A 3 part Skill Chain
The first attack throws a spear that causes bleeding
The second attack throws a spear that causes torment
The third attack is a melee attack that low sweeps the spear knocking down targets
First two attacks would cause conditions, while third attack would have a high power coefficient. The recharge of the skill will be very high, but only if you complete the chain. Performing just the throwing attacks, but not performing the third, will lower the skill’s recharge by 66%!

It’s like how the GW2 launcher works. You can start playing once your bar goes past the playable part, but if you wait for the bar to fill up completely then you won’t have to worry about downloading content as you play.

Fill your mastery xp bar to a point, and your character unlocks that mastery. Fill the bar up completely to unlock the mastery for your whole account. It’s so simple and easy.

Xpac 2: what could replace DH/Longbow?

in Guardian

Redfeather.6401

My idea has been and remains to be a spear. (yes that ol’ beaten horse.)
I’d prefer it to be a fast condi-focussed weapon combined with plenty of gap-closing options.

Right now Guardians do not fare well as condition-dealing class and as you said who would give up DH because of the ranged damage?

A ranged option is great but a solid gap-closing option could work as well especially if combined with a more reliable method of granting increased movement speed to oneself.

If the new Elite Specialization would make the Guardian’s mobility greater the desire for ranged combat would be lesser.

For the utilities I think a lot could replace the traps.
Traps aren’t too interesting. You place them, they get triggered, the effect triggers.
Almost no mindgames possible there.

I’d personally like supportive skills which focus on boosting the performance of allies over yourself.
If you’ve played GW:Nightfall think of something along the lines of a chant.

“for 10 seconds you and your allies deal …% more damage with their next … attacks.”

This type of skill wouldn’t be useless for a solo Guardian but would shine in multiplayer combat.

It’s funny, as I love the idea of spear being used on land for a class, but I also think of GW1. Heavy armour class with spear was paragon, and it EXCELLED at granting movement speed. You may get your wish for Guardian. XD

How does one 'Druid' properly?

Posted by: Redfeather.6401

Redfeather.6401

(For Fractals/Dungeons)
Don’t think of Druid as THE healer. You are just like the other players, there to DPS… plus you can heal if need be.

I made my way to 100 with Cleric Daze build extremely safely and much faster than probably other Pug individuals who went for MetaZerk logic.

I am stuck between these two positions on Druid… Go Zerker or go Cleric? The question “How does one Druid properly” has been bugging me as well because it seems that most people who you come across in GW2 is all about DPS, you don’t really hear much about healing. I was thinking about going full Cleric armor and trinkets to take advantage of all the healing Druid offered but… is a healer role really necessary in this game? Or should we all just be trying to DPS?

I wouldn’t worry about the healing stat. Only 2 druid skills really take advantage of it. One is lunar impact, which you have to be in CA to do, and the other is Ancestral Grace. Neither of those skills are bad without healing stat.

In PvE it will slow everything down as the dps increases as the fight goes on longer, and most mobs are trash mobs meant to be killed quickly.
So to compensate I use a power-based pet with burst damage.
Once that pet’s skills go on cooldown, regular PvE mobs are close to death and my conditions start to kick in and finish them off.

I play a Dragonhunter as well, but I never used Rune of Trapper on them. I don’t need to because DH traps do so much power based damage, plus apply defensive boons, and overlap well with each other, that they don’t need stealth.

Also, I don’t want that to change. It’s honestly the only thing that keeps me awake while playing a guardian. Just wished ranger trap build felt more meaty. I am new to ranger, so maybe I’m missing some perfect combination of equipment and traits. I don’t know.

Yeah. Another of those “things you loved about gw1” that didn’t make it into gw2. It was a great way to have individualized professions that was tossed aside to put in old style armor stats instead.

That really must have been the reason, and the only reason. The current system is a drag, and I wouldn’t have chosen it unless I wanted to making respeccing a huge pain in the kitten . At least they were smart enough to use amulets in PvP, knowing the system they have for PvE is something no player in PvP would tolerate.

That’s right and I think that’s a conscientious decision … it’s the market they want to target; casual players that don’t want to do hours of math to determine what the best setup is for their character … it works too.

Now casual players get to farm 14 pieces of equipment to heal better, and another 14 pieces of equipment to do more damage. XD
Attributes didn’t require hours of math. It was a streamlined system governing the effectiveness of skills. It helped close the gap between build making in PvE and PvP so that players could transition between the two with ease.
