How Would You fix Skyhammer?

in PvP

Reesha.7901

I’d rather engage in underwater combat than endure any more of this god awful map.

That makes two of us. I don’t understand why a map, that favors certain professions, is a part of solo q. We have no influence on who we are teamed up with in the first place, so we can end up at an advantage or disadvantage right away.
There is nothing competitive about that map.

I was fooling around with a spec in hot join yesterday and even then: I didn’t have the stomach to go in. Apparently, I wasn’t the only one as we were 4 people spectating. It is funny to see how half of the 2 teams vanishes the second the rotation reaches Skyhammer.

How to fix Skyhammer? Remove it from solo q and let it remain in hotjoin where you are not forced to play it. I don’t want developers to use massive resources on fixing something like this. I would rather see them using resources on fixing all the other issues. Just remove it.

Thanks a lot for the elaborate answer Jack.
I think Jumper has a lot of valuable suggestions in his video (with my limited understanding of the predicament that thieves faces.)
I just wasn’t sure about why that one skill would become useless.

And yes, I to prefer changes that makes things less spammy. Sadly that doesn’t seem to be a direction Arena net is taking any of the professions atm.

Yeh I meant to offense by asking. I just didn’t quite understand why (which Walker was kind enough to explain to me).

I try to read up on the other class forums, because it is hard to fight what you don’t understand and I do want to better myself.

As I said above, my friend plays S/D, but he has a very different opinion on the matter, so I was curious about the concerns voiced here. They make sense to me now.

Thanks for taking the time to explain this to me. Much appreciated.

I really wish A-net would adjust things faster. Then if something is buffed or nerfed drastically, we wouldn’t have to worry about how many months before something that turned out to be too much or too little is changed.

Yeh. I don’t know.
Maybe it is just me failing to understand the thief mechanics. I would hate if I couldn’t use blink when stunned as well. I guess they work much the same then. I am sorry to bother you thieves with questions about this, but I figured the thief forum would be the best place to learn something. (That is why I watched Jumper’s video in the first place after all.)

Warriors are (to put it nicely) slightly over powered. So they are most likely not the class I would compare anything with.
Guardians are usually support specced, so their damage is not a threat like that of a thief.

How about any other dps class then?
It is my understanding (I might be mistaken), that while a S/D thief takes their health away, they (or their team) have a hard time counter pressuring the thief because of the evades.

I am currious. How would you implement a gap then, where the S/D thief can actually be pressured, but without this change to Infiltrator’s return? Or am I again missing something?

Hi.
I am not sure I understand why a 1/4 second cast time on Infiltrator’s return will render the skill useless.
I understand it is a nerf, but useless?

Forgive me for asking, I am not a thief so I might have missed something completely here.
I asked a thief friend of mines, and he think it is not a problem (for S/D at least), because it is somewhat difficult to counter pressure them in the first place. If you can’t punish them when they are not evading or fail to dodge, then there is very little risk for a S/D to jump someone in the first place.

If anyone eats a full shatter combo or a skull crack followed by 100 blades, then they are in trouble as well. If anyone else gets stunned for 3 seconds and have loads of players attacking them, they are most likely dead as well. If anyone else uses a stun break, they don’t teleport away but are still right next to you and still vulnerable to attacks.

I mean no disrespect, but I honestly don’t understand why a short cast time brings the skill from being strong to be at: No point at ever using it again?
Is it not a very nice disengage to have still, if things are starting to look bad?
What am I missing here?

Wouldn’t there be an issue then with the team keeping up with the flow of discussions? I found it very hard to keep up even though i was reading all of the posts.

This said by focusing the thread topic this issue would be mitigated to an extent.

What do you all think of this proposal:

That we only have one thread per area open at one time, for example, the next PVE one then PvP and then WvW?

I have been thinking about this for a few days and believe the major issue would be the overall velocity of the CDI, and the main Pro being that we will have more time to enter into discussions due to only having to focus on one at a time.

Thoughts?

Chris

Yes. I still think this is the better option.

I believe if this initiative is to succeed: Then better take one topic at a time and don’t divide your focus until both players and developers have settled in and found some sort of balance in this type of communication.

I could use a cliché and say that I prefer quality to quantity, but then I would most likely shoot myself in the foot, as I do like quantity when it comes to dev responses and number of devs posting.

Personally, I would rather have a quality discussion in section of the game, where I don’t know much, because that would mean that the quality discussion eventually would reach a section of the game where I do feel I can provide input.

Anyone in the team using a Blast finisher within an ethereal field would apply Chaos Armor on all the team members. The Chaos armor itself does not reflect projectiles though.

How would you improve sPvP?

in PvP

Posted by: Reesha.7901

Reesha.7901

  • Add a rank requirement before new players can join tournaments, or add tournament matches that are for 1-20.
  • Add new (and many more) achievements for pvp.
  • Add templates.
  • Let us wear pvp skins anywhere.
  • Add more pvp specific rewards that can be shown off in pve as well.
  • Add rewards that can be purchased for glory.
  • Add gold rewards. Some of us play pve and pvp. Problem is, if you choose pvp, you also choose to have no income.
  • Let us report afk people.
  • Do not start a match unless it is 5 vs 5.
  • Add a way to sign up for solo q with a friend.
  • Restrict how many of the same profession can be on the same team.
  • it would be nice if there was a check on the class distribution. As an example, it is annoying to face a team with 3 guardians and no thief, where your own team has 2 thieves but no guardian.
  • Lower the overall damage output so the fights actually become interesting, and so new players have a chance to learn while fighting.
  • Ow and this again: Remove Skyhammer from solo q tournament rotation. Some classes have an advantage on this map. Since we have no influence on who we are teamed up with, we might end up with a huge advantage or disadvantage. That is not fair play and should therefore not be a part of anything that is supposed to be competitive.
  • Address obvious balance issues faster. Yes, it happened once upon a blue moon that someone found a super strong spec that no one knew about. It is the exception though. Most of the time we just end up being face rolled or being the class face rolling for months. Which is extremely frustrating.

What motivates you to play a game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Reesha.7901

Reesha.7901

I play because I can do whatever I feel like doing when I log on.

This pretty much applies for me as well. I don’t feel I have to focus on one thing and one thing only. If I don’t want to play one day, I don’t fall behind (much). My progress in this game is not based on whether or not I can play at certain hours for a certain amount of time. I feel I can progress in many different ways. I am not forced into only running dungeons as an example.

I know that I am a minority, but I am actually also happy with the Tequatl event and it is something I still look forward to when login on.
Getting people together in order to reliably kill the dragon every single day, has for the first time given the terms guild and community some meaning for me in PVE. I very much enjoy this new experience.

Before the change of the Tequatl event, I had been in a PVE guild for 7 months. When I initially joined I had hoped to find more purpose of the guild, but I was somewhat disappointed. The guild goals seemed to be getting as many people as possible to join, which then meant people begging in guild chat etc. Taking your chance with a pug group usually meant a faster run than going with a guild group. The only real thing the guild provided was access to guild missions and every once in a while a magic find buff etc.

Maybe, that is one of the reasons, I am happy with Tequatl. After leaving my old guild and joining TKS, I now feel being in a guild has an actual purpose. Even though there are no guild missions, as people come from many different servers and most of them have a different main guild. To me, this type of guild offers more value.

will ascended gear be alt-friendly?

That is not entirely untrue. I still wish Gw2 would aim for being different from all the others though. I thought that was a part of the master plan.

Different classes/builds vs Ascended

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Reesha.7901

Reesha.7901

My biggest issue with ascended gear is that I don’t know where it is going.

The only game I know well enough to compare is Warcraft.
In Warcraft, you needed gear to progress. You mainly needed the best possible gear to perform well when a new raid instance opened. Once that instance was on farm, the gear you obtained by raiding that particular instance, made it easier to clear every week, but its real purpose was to prepare for the next one.

As such, there was a clear goal with the gear. It was aimed at PVE raiding. You knew why you needed it and what you needed it for.

In gw2, the ascended concept is puzzling to me.
As it is now, I have gathered the materials, but I have not crafted anything yet.

Why not?
Because the way the game is now, I would think the greatest benefit from ascended would be wvw. Ascended is currently not a must have in PVE. However, if there is a plan for ascended to make a difference in PVE as well. A plan that has not yet been revealed. Then I don’t want to craft for wvw and later come to realize, that my choice has limited me in other areas of the game.

I dislike that I don’t understand the purpose of ascended at all in this game. Well in all honesty, I don’t like ascended at all, but a lack of purpose (other than grind) makes me dislike it even more.

You should go with the 2nd topic on the list, voting again now would be pointless IMHO, nothing has changed, it would just be a waste of time.

I have to agree with this. I could understand the need for a new vote, if people had only been able to choose one topic, when the first vote was made.
If that had been the case, then everyone that chose living story would have no influence on the next topic chosen.

However, we had the option to make a list. In order to find the next topic, I would guess anyone that had living story as their first priority just have their second priority count instead?

I don’t want to derail the thread but i would also like to know how everyone would like the next topics to be chosen. Simply would you like to vote again or would you like us to pick the second topics on the respective lists?

Hey Chris.

I think it really depends.

If some topics are set in stone, and you know you will not implement changes to those any time soon, then I think it would be a little bit silly to pick a desired topic by vote.
If the above is the case, then I think you guys have a better chance of determining which topic would provide the most value.

On the other hand, if a certain topic is high on the list and the fact that it is, makes it a candidate for a change or makeover, then I think you should stick with the vote already made.

In relation to more focused topics: Perhaps it would be an idea to ask questions, regarding the chosen topic, that you are curious about. As in, ask the question(s) in the very first post that starts the discussion, in order to to guide the chosen topic a little bit.

Let’s say it the next topic was my personal favorite: RNG
Perhaps the very first post from A-net could contain something like this:
__________________________________________________________________

… We think it would be interesting to hear your opinion on the following two questions:

Where do you think RNG works as a positive element in the game and why?
Where do you think RNG works as a negative element in the game and why?

Any other feedback or suggestions regarding RNG are off course still welcome.

As others have already pointed out, I felt the discussion was somewhat lacking in terms of A-net responses and in A-net giving the discussion a sense of direction.
I think there was a lot more of direction in the initial Collaborative development topic.

I think it is still important that players have the opportunity to add to the discussion. That concerns suggestions or ideas can be added along the way even if not outlined by A-net.

Therefore, I don’t mean that A-net should control every single aspect of the discussion. I mean that some guidance would be nice. After all, A-net know which suggestions have a realistic chance of being reconsidered by the developers though the collaborative development topic, where we as players do not.

There were a few developer responses along the way, but very few that gave a sense of direction. Actually, some of the few I recall that did give a sense of direction were:

The response concerning the frequency of LS releases. The response was not what I personally had hoped for, but at least the answer made it clear, that frequency was not an element of the LS that was up for debate or changes. A clear answer made it possible for everyone to focus on other elements instead.

The request for Favorite/ least favorite LS, which did provide a sense of direction.

I think the Collaborative development initiative is great, but I doubt it will do much if ends up much like any other topic on the forum. By that, I mean that I assume developers/forum moderators etc. actually read those topics as well, even if no reply is given.

If the few A-net responses is caused by having 3 active topics at a time (wvw, spvp and the general pve topic) and a limited amount of time available to actually read and reply, Maybe consider having just 1 topic up at a time?

I would rather have one topic, where the developers feel invested, than I would have 3, where the responses seem fragmented, where the “ping pong” between developers and players is missing, where the last developer response is 5 pages back.

How to find real mesmer??

in Mesmer

Posted by: Reesha.7901

Reesha.7901

That is CHEATING, why not fight me like a man?

That is not cheating but how the class works.
We rely on illusions to do damage. Your fight like a man would mean we would have to try to tickle you to death without illusions… That doesn’t sound very manly to me.

As for how to find the real one?
Clones only cast the auto attack so any attack being different would indicate the real mesmer.
Phantasms are transparent, use pink weapons and are easy to seperate from the mesmer.
Only the real mesmer dodges, strafes, takes a step backwards etc.
If the mesmer magically gains full health and loose all buffs and debuffs, odds are he used decoy and you are now looking at a clone.
Watch his health bar. Clones that just spawned have full health, if you got a mesmer low but lost your target, the health bar itself will often be an indication of the real one once he reappears.

In all honestly though: The best way of finding the mesmer is to look for the one acting human, and know the tricks mesmers have available, such as decoy.
The best thing you can do is make a mesmer and learn how they work.

I already left. I am relieved it is over, and I do not intend to ever return.

I think there were positive elements to this part of the living story. I liked the chambers and the fact that you could do them alone, with a friend or an entire group.

The tower itself however….
The way to the chambers through the tower completely destroyed the positive aspects for me at least.

I initially thought a tower sounded interesting. I had hoped the tower itself would be for both a solo player and a group (as the chambers are).

I had hoped for content that you could complete once, to get your achievements, but then get the option to repeat: This time slightly more challenging and slightly more rewarding, scaling depending on whether you progress through it alone, with a friend or with a full group.

As an alternative, I think it would have been nice if each level had offered something different.
Like a jumping puzzle for one level. Maybe a level where closed doors blocks the path and you would need to solve riddles to progress though. Anything to make the levels a bit different from one another and bit more interesting.
Something that isn’t a zerg for once.

I don’t think this living story is without positive elements, but I think this is the first time I am happy that content is not permanent.

It’s another part of their pre-launch design philosophy they scrapped. They talked about doing a dungeon and getting something you want (instead of hoping for a 1% drop item), feeling rewarded each time you did a dungeon (originally it was one piece of gear per dungeon run, that turned into tokens and several runs). Now we have an entire tower where you can run around in it for hours, get to the top and get nothing but a rare or two with some blues and greens.

Yes, it is lovely. Let’s see:

Fractal weapons: RNG
New Twilight Weapons: RNG
Precursors: RNG
Ascended weapon drops: RNG
Tequalt mini pet: RNG
Yellow Aquabreather: RNG
Black Lion Claim Ticket Scrap : RNG
Toxic Spore Skin back-slot item: RNG

And there are many more of course. Funny enough, even salvaging items to increase rng has a rng element to it.

They have added ascended crafting, so there is a way to obtain those outside rng, but besides those: It all seems to be about RNG these days.

I am happy I can at least buy those key pieces, but overall: I miss ways to work towards things in this game without the RNG element and without feeling punished for not having RNG luck. This tower is no exception.

Rant over. Sorry for hijacking this topic. I just find the vast amounts of RNG in GW2 extremely frustrating.

Being kicked for being a thief

If it is any comfort Cynz, my pug group kicked a zerg warrior today in order to keep our thief.

First, this warrior joins my group and then change my lfg description…
I had asked for experienced players. He changed it to: 80 only, no ranger, engi, necro.

Then he managed to kick the lvl 62 and 75 joining (lvl 45 dungeon) as someone apparently accepted his vote kick.

The group filled up again and we started the dungeon. After the first boss (where the warrior died) he attempted to vote kick the thief (who did absolutely nothing wrong).

Being more than just a little bit tired of his attitude, (my friend and I did not announce a speed run after all) we kicked the warrior instead and had a nice, fast and enjoyable run.

Being a mesmer and playing with a zerk warrior most of the time, the best and fastest pug runs I have had so far, includes a group with 2 necromancers and another group with 2 thieves.

I love having a good thief in my group.

Another idea would be to maybe focus on one or two elements instead and add the rest through coloring of gear etc.

I attached some pictures to show what I mean.
First one is an attempt for water, but toned down a bit so it remains neutral. (That is only if you still want neutral though. As others have mentioned, an elementalist can get away with being colorful!) In the end, all that matters is that you create a character, that is exactly how you want.

The second one is an attempt on earth and water.

Third one is a picture of my very neutral guardian as I failed to post that earlier, when you asked for a neutral look.

Actually, this bug seems to be releated to the Aquabreather of the Afflicted. It only happens if I have that equiped. It seems the texture from the aquabreather is re-used somehow.

Edited the above post.
