As I recall, there was also a Sylvari in the story line, that did not come from the pale tree.
His origin remained unknown.
I like him too and Reesha gives very good advice as always.
My only suggestion would be that you might want to take a look at swapping the glow with the eyes.
So that you have the bright blueish eyes and the firey glow- if you are so inclinedHe looks great
Thanks Morrigan. <3
Firey glow would definitely be another option worth trying out.
I just realized, I don’t know if he has a pattern color?
If the glow creates too much of a contrast and limits your dye options, maybe that is something you could try to explore as well. With a pattern, you could still have all 4 elements represented, and the the choice of glow would only be a matter of choosing what goes best with everything else.
A pattern color, similar to his current glow, would most likely blend nicely with his skin color and be less dominant than the glow.
Just an idea.
(edited by Reesha.7901)
I like his colors, and since you can dye your armor any way you want, I think the question you need to ask yourself is: Does it work with all the colors you have in mind?
I could see him look great in an air, earth and water themed armor set for sure, I am uncertain how the glow would work with a fire themed set.
If I were you (I always do this :P) I would do the initial story line quest and then teleport directly to heart of the mist and walk through the portal to Lions Arch. All the dungeon vendors are there, so you can try out a lot of endgame gear, search for dyes on the trading post and preview them as well.
It should give you a better idea of whether or not his glow is in conflict with dyes or weapons that you want for him. (The glow shows up a little bit, if you preview at night time.)
I think the skin tone is great and the white hair and fire eyes look awesome. The only thing I am not certain about is the glow, but it could work if you don’t mind a more dramatic look for a fire themed set.
(edited by Reesha.7901)
In my experience, Sylvari are easier to work with if they are either pale or dark. The middle tones seem to be a bit more difficult. I would say a pale grey/beige/green color or a dark grey or green goes well with just about everything.
If you want to keep it neutral, you can choose no pattern and no glow, but personally, I think those two things make the Sylvari look stunning, so I would not go that far if it was my toon.
White glow looks decent with just about everything, but if you are absolutely sure there are certain colors you won’t wear, I would think you can be a bit more bold and maybe pick a glow color that would go well with the colors that you do like.
Same for the pattern.
My guardian is very neutral color wise. Dark grey skin – white hair, glow and pattern color. She can wear just about every color.
It is a very neutral look, and I made her that way, partially because I did not have a clear idea of what I wanted for her gear wise, and mainly because I wanted her to resemble frost on a winter’s night.
My mesmer on the other hand, initially had certain color limitations, when it came to weapons and dyes.
I recently changed her glow and pattern color just a little bit, which means she can use a greater variety of dyes now, but she is still more of a theme color wise. A theme I can tone up or down as I please.
If you don’t want it 100% neutral, maybe you could add a discreet theme in your Sylvaris’ pattern, skin color etc, representing some of the elements, but without overtaking completely.
As for faces. This is really a matter of taste. You can make it look very alien or you can make it more human looking. It really depends on what you prefer. (Also, do you plan to make a male or a female Sylvari?)
I tend to stick with the more human looking faces, but it is a matter of taste and I have seen many beautiful Sylvari characters with the more alien looking faces.
I have attached a picture of the mesmer so you can see what I mean by toning a theme up or down.
Full purple heaven vs. a more neutral look.
(Ignore the Skull Masque though. I just wanted to see how it looked like on her.)

For example, I did all the content in Kessex, because I want a skill node in my home instance. I didn’t however, enjoy following the zerg train there, I did it to get it over with.
Now, Anet might look at that and think, wow, that’s great, we have all these people doing this content, we’ve done well. But how many people doing the content actually like or want to do it? And is that part of what Anet is counting when they count how many people are for/against a specific type of content.
I think this is a question worth asking.
I am afraid my motivation to do some of the living story content is the same as yours.
I often don’t enjoy it, but I do it anyway if the reward is good enough.
I’ve come to realise that rewards and achievements are a bad thing for games in general.
It’s lowest common denominator stuff and makes people forget why they started playing in the first place. It all becomes about how much gold or achievement points players receive for repeating activities instead of actually enjoying the content itself.…..
If you play Guild Wars 2 at the moment, you’re unconsciously deciding to join the race to get the shiniest stuff or the most achievement points. This causes stress with the 2 week release cycle, and it makes people anxious when they miss out on something because they didn’t have time to dedicate to playing.
I must say, I think this is a very interesting post.
It makes me wonder:
- Would we participate in the living story, if there were no special achievements attached to it?
- Would we participate if the special back item skins, and other rewards from the living story, could be obtained by playing the game in other ways?
- Would we want to do the living story content still, because the content is rewarding and fun in itself?
- Does it not become harder for the living story developers, to measure how much people like the content vs. how much they want the rewards?
Edit: Just noticed Vayne made a topic regarding this:

Maybe the new legendary staff ;P
Oh dear. That would be horrific lol.
Just thought I would copy paste what Kristen Perry wrote in the Gw2 discussion forum regarding the changes (in case someone haven’t seen it):
I originally started typing up a big post about explanations and reasons and theories, but I think that they’d get in the way of the point I’m trying to make, so I’ll keep it as concise as I can.
What is:
Glow mask areas remove the shiny effect beneath them in the current system. The armor glow and skin glow are two different systems. The only control currently possible is through the armor dye of that area.
What will be:
Textures: I’ll get the textures to work like they used to. By this, I mean they can go back to darker and have their gradients as much as I can while keeping the glow.Dye Masks: I will get them to behave more like the old shapes, but you’ll still see some tweaks because of the glow. I see a couple folks mentioning dye masks being removed. This was unintentional and I’ll look into it.
Glow Shape: I can minimize some of the glow layer shape in the texture so it doesn’t affect the broadness of specular as much. You’ll get most of your shiny leaves back.
What I’m working on:
The glow isn’t as rich and saturated as one would predict. This wasn’t touched and is not a part of the texture or dye files, even though the dye shape is now controllable. There may be a way to get this changed on the shader, but it would only affect cultural armor and nightmare court stuff, not any clothing. The glow can get to be more aligned to the color. If you dye the shape blood red, it will glow like a traffic light. If you dye it dark red, it’ll glow dark red. If you dye it pink, it will glow pink. If you dye it white, it will blow out so bright. …if you dye it black or dark dark dark, it’ll barely glow if at all.
By dying it dark, you can effectively artificially “mostly turn off” the glow. This is the biggest middle ground while still giving the people who love the glow their choice as well.
Thanks everyone for your feedback on this change. I tried my best to explain this system and what I’m working on, but there are technical elements and nuances that are fairly complex to describe. Note that any changes I could make will not get into the game the next build release. But they may get into the build after that. Now back to work for me. :}
Thank you Kirsten.
Not only do I love your passion for the Sylvari and your beautiful designs. I am starting to love and admire your willingness to communicate with the player base and the transparency of said communication even more.
I love the new skin
Yeh, I love this skin too. I was so disapointed when I realized it could not be bought with the Black Lion Claim Ticket. I definitely would like this staff for my mesmer :<
My favorite release was Zephyr Sanctum. Just some great stuff in that one.
Zephyr Sanctum is also very high on my favorite list. It was a lot of fun.
Some of you posted about your favorite releases and least favorite. It would be really cool if you have the time to post your single favorite and least favorite and the reasons why for each. This would help a lot and I will share my learning with you etc. from the posts.
Favorite: Tequatl
I like this one because it is permanent content and I still do this event almost every day.
I still think he would be better suited to be an instanced encounter, and I still think the RNG factor is ridiculous, when it comes to the rewards from this boss.
I still think it would be very nice, if he became more accessible by lowering the spawn timer. However: I like the general idea and I enjoy the fight itself.
I rather liked, that for once an encounter was released, where full berserker gear was not necessarily the way to go. I had some additional fun obtaining PVT gear through dungeons and wvw, so this particular event affected my time in game (in a positive way) more than any of the others.
One of the main reasons is still the simple fact that he is permanent content. It became worth it because he is.
Least Favorite: Clockwork Chaos.
In my opinion, the problem with that event was, that is was too profitable to not do it, it was way too laggy and it was very time consuming to get the Invasion Canceler achievement. I did this event several hours every day, because it was the way to go in order to save up champion bags (Essence of Luck), crafting materials, skill points, gold etc. I did however not enjoy the content much. In my ideal Gw2 world, the living world content itself, should be rewarding and fun to do.
Regarding Cadence of release: This is not something we plan to change in terms of timing and I wanted to make that clear from the outset.
I find this very, very disappointing. Nothing more, nothing less.
I understand that you most likely have your reasons for this, but just as you are being honest about this, I will be honest too.

I personally love how the T3 light has changed.
I must add, I really like the change to the T1 set. I don’t have T3, so I wont be the judge of the changes to that set. ^^
T1 is glowing nicely now, which makes it easier to match with T2 (and T3 as well I would guess)!
I mean no disrespect, but I think the light T1 chest looks awesome now!
I can understand why some people are not happy about this change at all though. Especially those that have invested inT3 in order to achieve a particular look.
I think the best-looking race is the Sylvari.
I agree with this.
I have tried making none sylvari characters but I always end up regreting not making them sylvari.
Just like Lorelei, I think both genders of the Sylvari race looks amazing.
I would not mind something like that at all. ^^
Errr. My Sylvari is looking at others if I have them targeted, and if they move, she moves her head accordingly. (Sometimes so much, I am thankful her poor neck is not made of flesh and bones ^^)
Yes, their movement is different from humans and I for one am thankful for that. In my opinion, that difference definitely favors the Sylvari. They look so much more alive.
It is interesting how different we look upon this though. I never got a human past level 5, simply because their running animation, seen from behind, is so stiff. In my opinion it’s the humans that look like robots.
I agree with what many others have already posted.
I like the idea of the living story, but not so much the paste of it. Most of the time, it is too fast for my liking.
I often feel I do not get much room to enjoy other (permanent) areas of the game. When I have to choose between the temporary content and the permanent content… Well, I don’t want to miss out and the dungeons and spvp and exploring the world are not going anywhere.
Sometimes I feel like I am postponing the rest of the game for the living story because often, it is temporary content.
You could argue I could just stop doing that (and you would be correct), but I enjoy the living story. Problem is, I also rather enjoyed the break that used to be in between the living story releases.
I would prefer longer lasting or even better: Permanent living world content and less frequent releases.
It would be nice to have some sort of development in the story itself. Currently, I at least think, many of the living story releases feel somewhat disconnected from one another.
I would prefer for the living story, to feel more as a new chapter in the same book. That there were a great epic story told over time, which we as players would get to be part of and play a part in.
Moreover, it would be nice if the result of our efforts, our wins or loses would leave a mark on the world of Tyria. That the world developed alongside the living story.
I am not sure I understand what this suggestion is about?
Being a Mesmer, one of the few reliable ways for me to get a speed buff is picking up a banner, which a warrior left behind. I am actually serious here; I am always looking for banners to steal when doing dungeons, the recent Mad Kings Labyrinth event etc. (lol)
I do see where the OP is coming from, I did a dungeon run with 4 warriors and when one of them went down… well…. I picked up banner after banner and failed to res him in time. Maybe that is what you would call poetic justice? Warrior dies due to misplaced banners.
Neither of the groups (zergs or single players) have the right to scream at others for not following a rotation.
I for one agree with this. I run with the champion train occasionally, but personally, I have never seen anyone scream at anyone that killed a champion before the train arrived. Move on to the next champion, no big deal.
The one time it was a bit annoying to skip a champion was, when a bot killed it repeatedly, but that is a completely different issue.
The only time I have seen people complain was when one commander left, another took over and he ran a different route. The champion train of people then all of a sudden split up and killed two champions at the same time. As a result, everyone therefore missed out on killing one of them. In other words, the champion train managed to troll itself.
I have no issue with people preferring the train, nor with people that wish to kill a champion on their own.
However, if it is true that some people kill a champion, with the sole purpose to annoy others, then they have a bad attitude in my opinion.
Mesmer: Out of combat increase by 25% run speed option.
It could be through Signet of Inspiration or, as suggested elsewhere: Through a trait similar to Compounding Celerity. However, make it so with zero active illusions, the mesmer runs with 25% movement speed and with illusions up (in combat) the speed is reduced to normal.
- It is not cool only to have the focus provide a speed buff. (Alternatively, having to spend 50+ gold on traveler runes and then not be able to run with the rune set that would complement you build the best.)
- It is annoying in dungeons if your focus speed runs out, and you then are the one having to deal with all the AOE on the ground from trash mobs.
- It is annoying when leveling and exploring.
Overall, this is the one change I want the most.

A Human Mesmer not in full T3?
An unusual sight indeed, and what a beautiful result
I love this topic. There are so many stunning armor combinations in here!
Ranger Medium
That is some very colorful screen shots and I really like your armor combination.
(Also, my friend would love to get a weapon like yours one day ^^)
(edited by Reesha.7901)
Wish there were more armours that allowed for more glow to be shown. I know some people start the whole ’don’t want skimpy armour’ thing, but personally I find the glowing effects awesome and would like them to be more visible on Sylvari.
I always look for amours that show the glow as well. Like the Winged armor set, that shows of most of the back, the arms and the left leg. I like my sylvari’s glow, her pattern and all the little details. I don’t want to hide it all.
If it was me, I would use the option ‘botting’ to report such exploits.
Yeh, that’s what I went with as well, but I wasn’t really sure if it was accurate enough.
What I read into the word botting, would be a character moving due to a script of some sort and without the player being present.
I was thinking, that if A-net then checked for botting, they might not find the actual reason for my report.
I guess botting is the closest option then. Thanks for the help.
(edited by Reesha.7901)
I have a question. Is there a way to report a player in game for something that might not be listed in the options menu?
The one time I reported someone, it was because he was teleporting around the map and obviously using some sort of hack. I know warriors are almost Gods at the moment in both pve and pvp. However, to my knowledge, teleport should not be one of their abilities just yet. (Maybe next patch)
Is there a way to report something like this in game? I failed to find a fitting option.
sylvari with pink glow is what I went with
Same actually, but I did modify her glow recently to be more purple than pink.^^
I have no regrets about choosing sylvari for my mesmer. I think they look awsome!
(edited by Reesha.7901)
Well…this is me. Hopefully someone will like it =)
I definitely like it. Since I am in the process of gearing my guardian, would you mind telling me what you are wearing?
Here is my newest set for my mesmer. I am very pleased with how it turned out. I like that it is not as “sweet, innocent and obvious mesmer” looking as her other armor sets . ^^
Head: Wraith Masque
Shoulders: Masquerade Mantle
Chest: Winged Tunic
Gloves: Flame Legion Gloves
Legs: Shelter Leggings
Boots: Flame Legion Shoes

So if I understand correctly, if you have two BA looking bow’s you have to make a 1 time choice? No way of saving the look of the one you are about to change the look of.
Theoretically, you can save the look by transmuting bow #1 to the junk bow.
However, if you afterwards want to transfer the look from bow #2, (asuming you don’t want to use bow #2 with its current stats), then you would need a third bow to which you then could transfer the look of bow #2.
I hope that makes sense. If you transfer bow #1 to the junk bow, you keep the look but loose the stats from bow #1, and there will only be one item left.
Edit: Just remember the 2 bows become one. The way you describe it, I think it would be easier to just buy a third bow (with the stats you want) and transmute the look of bow #2 to that one.
That way, you would not ruin the stats of bow #1, you would keep both looks and in you own scenario, you would need to buy a third bow anyway. If you don’t: Then you would have the 2 skins intact, but not the stats from the original bow #1 on either of them.
(edited by Reesha.7901)
1. Say I have two bows but I like the look of both of them. Would I take 2 crystals, transfer the look of bow #1 that I am getting rid of to some junk bow and then transfer the bow that I like to bow #1. This method I just preserved the look of bow #1 if I ever want to go back to it?
If you were to use a transmution stone on bow #1 to transfer the look to a junk bow, then the 2 items merge, and you are left with one item. Transmutation creates a new item, replacing both the junk bow and bow #1.
In other words: After transmuting you would have 1 bow with the stats from the junk bow but with the looks of bow #1.
Therefore, you will not be able to transmute the bow that you like to bow #1 as bow #1 no longer exists.
2. With a Transmutation Crystal can I take the look of a lesser than 79 level bow and put that look onto a level 80 bow?
Yes.
whow ! what are those pants Demented Sheep.1642 ?
They are a part of the the Tactical Set. I believe they are sold by Karma vendors in Orr.
I have them on my mesmer, but I´m affraid I forgot exactly where I bought them.
Play competitive game modes for once.
You are correct, after that comment I have no faith in you.
Example:
Mesmers get speed from focus or runes. If you give them a permanent source for no reason, they no longer need to use focus for speed, or runes for speed, but can use another weapon, or different rune sets. It is a balance issue, and will always be A BIG FAT NO.
I don’t see changing this as a bad thing. Being rewarded for using specific runes or weapons does (to some extend) limit build variety.
But (I quote my previous post here), I think you are missing the main point:
The other truth is that ANet simply don’t have enough manpower to implement all the excellent ideas we hear from good or not-so-good players alike – so rest assured that the 90% don’t feel that ANet is listening to their ideas much more than you feel they don’t listen to you as a “good player”. It is what it is.I’m pretty sure ANet are well aware of the various things they need to do to improve the game, and they have a todo list probably longer than your arm.
Nah, I get your main point. My point was just, that when they have to prioritize the todo list, I would hope they move suggestions that would benefit all of us high on the list.
I think many of Helseth’s suggestions would benefit all of us, but it became more obvious after he made his rant and many players on various levels agreed with him.
Finally finished my Sylvari warrior. Dyes are Deep Glacial Sky and Winter Ice dye.
That looks amazing. Gj!
Is it the best format to communicate with the already busy ANet developers?
I let you be the judge, but as I see it, these videos seem better at communicating with the player base (and getting a following of players) than communicating ideas concisely for the developer.
Having (good) players talking to a large portion of the player base in an accessible and amusing format (the “video rant”) is needed and there definitely is a market for this (thanks Helseth, you did this very well and I enjoyed watching them), but again apparently the developers have another preferred channel if you want to communicate with them.
It could also be as simple, that a top player (after using the preferred channel for the developer’s), does not feel heard. Therefore, he makes several videos in order to get the feedback and backup from the rest of the community.
I would think it makes a greater impact, if you have a competitive high ranked player share his ideas with the rest of the community and find, that many of us (who are not highly ranked) approve very much of the ideas given.
It should also show the developers, that it is an idea, which scrubs like me and top players alike approve of. Aka, it would benefit all of us. Not just the 4% or the 10%, but all of us.
When I first started playing, I did just about everything wrong. I literally had zero toughness and it did not take long before all the D/D thieves were swarming me for the free kill and the free honor.
I asked a friend to duel me. I learned the basic attack patterns for thieves. I learned when to dodge, when to block, when to burst and when to play defensive. I changed my spec in order to have enough burst to kill but enough defense to avoid getting one shot.
I still died, I still messed up, but 99% of the time, it truly was a l2p matter on my part, and I could usually see afterwards where I went wrong.
The important point here is that I was improving at the time, and I felt rewarded for improving.
I am not saying everything before the condition meta was perfect, but after it hit, I am having issues telling if I die because I mess up, or if I die because there really is not much I can do. This makes it a lot harder to learn and improve imo.
Because of this, I agree with many of the points that have been raised previously.
- Do I want to be beaten by someone’s passive abilities? No, I do not.
- Do I want abilities with no animations, giving you no realistic chance to react? No, I do not.
- Do I want a game without counter play? No, I do not.
- Do I want the damage to be lowered so you have a chance to execute the counter play? Learn while you are fighting? Yes, I do.
I don’t want a flat game, where you don’t get rewarded for being the better player. I´ll rather die a lot (which I will) until I improve.
I don’t want a game that is ‘flat’, skill progression wise. I do think some professions are too rewarding with almost no skill.
I realize that A-net doesn’t want to scare of new players by making it too hard.
I am still a somewhat new player when it comes to pvp, and I am scarred of for other reasons….
I would rather lose to someone, that is clearly a lot better than I am skill wise, than I would see this skilled player loose to someone with as little skill as myself, but with an easy mode spec.
I want a game where there is something to strive for. I want a reason to better myself and I want to be rewarded for doing so.
I think the gloves and boots are Cof, but I could be wrong. I have absolutely no idea about the helm.
Regarding the rune question: I am not sure I understand what you are asking :s
You can always replace a rune, but I have a feeling that wasn’t the question you wanted an answer to :<
I can confirm this. The Clock Tower does currently not count for Puzzle Jumper or Daily Activity Participation.
I love your passion for the game and your desire to help the rest of us improve.
If you find it hard to comment while playing, I guess you could comment afterwards and add it as a separate soundtrack.
It would be a bit of extra work though.
I know someone here will probably think less of me for admitting that oversight
Quite the opposite actually.
Beautiful result. And the pattern color match her hair really well
Have you tried to preview the Twilight armor btw?
I took a screenshot of a ranger a while back because I though this mix of armor looked amazing.
I don’t understand why people always ask the: is it worth comming back question.
If you have read the forum as you say you have, then you should know which changes have been implented. Did you see any changes to the things that made you shelve the game last time?
If you did, then maybe log in and try it out? If you still don’t like it, log out again?
You already bought the game so….
Great video again Sensotix Keep it up!
Thanks so much for your input!
Any time.
I really enjoyed this challenge ^^
She* not he
Huh?
