We’ve been in some matches where it felt like every day I’d log on and all of our stuff is gone and there’s a certain sunk feeling when you see your keeps a different color at the height of prime time and you pretty much know everyone’s called it until next match up. The general player doesn’t want to solo across a map of hostile color or try to defend stuff on their own and will go run fractals.
What is this goofiness? And you’re on Mag? For shame. Even the fabled SoS/FA stomping of 2012 we had the Alamo and Ramelot. There’s always fun to be had in WvW.
Here are my (admittedly back seat quarterbacking) thoughts regarding our implosion after not being able to last one week against a serious challenge in the higher tier.
During the first few days of this fight, DR were doing really quite well. It was pretty tight and Maguuma were just able to hold a their lead. This means you are generally good enough and you’re right in your conclusion that it’s a morale problem that caused the disintegration.
You mention WvW guilds a lot in your post and it’s interesting to observe that on Maguuma guild membership does not mean a whole lot when it comes to co-ordination. In WvW, we pretty much act as one big guild with a couple of commanders running things across the majority of players on a particular map. Not all commanders have commander icons, either – although people usually donate to buy them one if they’re good at running things!
I don’t know if this is why we have more stamina than some servers even when we’re losing, but it’s certainly a nice system.
The biggest thing is that being on Maguuma when you’re losing is almost as fun as when you’re winning. Even if we’re down to one keep in the entire game, we’ll pour all our resources into holding that keep for the whole match and forget all about our point deficit.
Only thing I have seen so far BP begging maguma and devona to ally with them and seems maguma favors BP. They almost don’t attack each other’s BLs and when BP gets attacked by Maguma and Devona they start whispering trying to make deals. Maguma also only achieve something when they outnumber enemy 2:1 with golems and avoiding fight letting BP Devona fight while they PvDoor their stuff on other side. Devona might stay or fall from this tier due to getting double teamed but in the end Devona will be the one going up when match up changes.
it seems like DR and Mag are teaming up, (probably unknowingly, not accusing anything) as we are getting SMASHED in our borderlands.
Mag taking BPs entire BL right now had nothing to do with DR at all. Them sitting in SW tower wasn’t anything significant. If it distracted you, that’s on your own commanders.
It doesn’t matter if they have more then you when you can fight them 10:1!
BP isn’t a problem. There’s so many basic fundamentals you can tell their average playerbase is missing… That and they all seem to be low level. They’ll lose without question.
We just don’t get massive point victories often like other servers tend to get.
Just curious, what did you guys (devonas and maguuma) think of the BURN zerg in EB last night? we had pulled in about 80 people and im curious to see the effect that it had on you guys… just curious…
BP actually has 80 man guilds? Forget what I said earlier about suspecting you guys having more players. You definitely have more players than Mag lol. How did you not take all of eternal with forces like that?
Maguuma does have a lower population compared to the current T4 servers, even though we’ve been at that tier for much longer than all 3 of those servers. We’re just not a server that gets large transfers (both on or off it) like others seem to get.
There’s certainly been nothing in this match to suggest to me that BP has less population or coverage than Maguuma has at all. I’m actually beginning to suspect those guys might have a little more than we do. DR might have a slightly lower pop compared to BP and Mag, but not by a lot I think. Not enough to complain about population anyway, that’s for sure.
Any server could win this match up. Just gotta put in the work.

Not sure which server you are from but last night is the FIRST time I ever saw a huge group of people with different guild tags ignore and avoid chasing a smaller group and stick to their objective. And that occured more than once.
It’s typically easy to derail such a group and take advantage of the zerg mentality. That did not happen. Impressive discipline and communication for a mixed guild group.
Maguuma is essentially one big guild. Public mumble makes it so everybody, doesn’t matter what guild you’re in, can be receiving the exact same instructions as everybody else… This isn’t to say everybody uses it obviously, but a decent number of people do.
Pre-October we had a lot of coordination issues, but the public mumble was a major help for our server. It helps that it’s been embraced relatively well as well, some servers nobody uses their VOIP channels.
It’s really no different than walking back into the middle exit spawn. You become invulnerable there too.
There’s no reason, at all, that people should feel entitled to be able to kill people beside the legendary guards. Just chill in the supply camp. That’s what the invaders are there for anyway.
honestly, I don’t know if it’s an exploit or was put there on purpose to try and encourage people to take a chance in taking bay. everyone I talk to on BP says exploit, so I also use the term.
To add to above poster: those points for dolyaks and sentries are added immediately, not with the points tally. I believe it’s 2 points each?
If you look at the score board for some time, you’ll notice minor point aditions in between the point tallies.
Sentries give more points based on how long they’ve been sitting there alive. Sometimes it’s 1 point, sometimes it’s 10+ points. Changes constantly. I’m not sure how many points dolyaks give.
that was a pretty good video, i’m impressed with your tactics and how you are really getting the most out of the thief class. also that was an amazing bow.
If things like sealing gates, +5 supply buffs, portal bombing, and rezing supervisors impress yaks, you guys are hurting more than I thought.
